The Date

Two weeks have passed since the Gala and the day that Twilight had finally felt like herself again. She had a fun party with her friends, ate as much as she wanted, and was asked by her best friend to be his marefriend. She smiled remembering the morning after the Gala, she was snuggling into what she believed was her pillow as she thought the night before was a blissful dream only to find her pillow moving. She opened her eyes to see she was in Spike’s bed with her in his arms.

Gallus would later tell everyone that he was guarding outside the room and heard a booming excited squeak inside. He opened the door to check on the new couple, seeing Spike’s upper body hanging off his bed with his movements seeming groggy and unfocused and Twilight hugging and kissing him. The captain smirked and couldn’t hold back a comment.

“Now that’s one heck of a way to wake up.”

Twilight was cut away from her memories when the nobles around her started laughing and she joined along. Celestia was a ponies pony, a ray of sunshine in any party but Twilight while she had grown much over the years never fully escaped the bookworm who would rather read than talk to strangers. Talking casually was always more so Spike’s area of expertise.

Her thoughts went to her drakefriend and she wondered if he was doing any better than her. She had been forced to send him away to the land of Galin where the Storm King once ruled. The new royal family of yetis were willing to join Equestria and its allies but Spike would have to smooth things out between the Galians, Abyssians, and Hippogriffs first.

She didn’t feel right about sending Spike in the middle of such an old feud but if anyone could make the three see sense and be seen as unbiased it would be a dragon. He had been gone for a week and a half now with only one letter that said that this may be his hardest job yet.

Twilight waved goodbye to the nobles as day court ended and she was left alone again. She sighed walking towards her room, smiling a bit at the stained glass windows that showed when Celestia first became princesses, the creation of the elements, the reawakening of them by Twilight and her friends, the defeat of Discord, the defeat of Chrysalis, Spike saving the Empire, Tirek’s defeat, Sombra’s destruction, the end of Cozy Glow, Chrysalis, and Tirek, and Flurry’s Ascension to a ruler.

She arrived at her room and went to the balcony, lowering the sun and sparing a few precious moments to look down at Canterlot. So many races and creatures all living together in harmony and with Hearts and Hooves day coming soon she could almost taste the love in the air. The city went dark for a moment before it suddenly came alive with light and life.

She smiled and looked up at the starry sky, imagining that Spike was looking at the same sky at that moment maybe even thinking of her. She sighed with a small giggle and a shake of her head. Cadence once told her how she used to always feel around Shining and only now does she fully understand those feelings. She had always believed that friendship was the greatest magic in the world but with love she found something that she wanted even more.

A familiar buzz came to her horn and a letter fell to the ground before her. She quickly unwrapped it and found the writing was sloppier than Spike’s usual scribble. He must have been very tired.

Dear Twilight
I want to apologize for not sending anything for a while, things got real rough over here. I underestimated the damage the Storm King did to everyone while he ruled and how hard it would be to get them all to talk. Luckily, I ran into Capper, Silverstream and Princess Skystar and they were able to help convince the rulers of their respective races to give me a chance to convince them to hear out the new Galian royal family.
I gave one of your friendship speeches and brought up how we were the ones to destroy the Storm King so I could be trusted. After a week of talking between the three kingdoms I finally got them all to agree to meet in Canterlot in a month. We’ll have to be prepared for that but with everything done here, I’ll be heading home tonight. I’ll get there in two days, just in time for Hearts and Hooves day~ heh.
Try to keep yourself sane and keep from Twilighting on Gallus!
Love Spike~
Twilight trotted in place, giddy at the news Spike would be back soon. She suddenly stopped and tapped her hoof against her chin in thought. This would be the two’s first time really spending an entire day together as a couple. She decided she wanted to make it special, but she had never dated before! Maybe there was a book she could read? No, not enough time to really study. Wait! Her friends had been on dates and some were even married! She would go to them! She prepared to fly out immediately but paused remembering she had just lowered the sun.

“Oh right, sleep.”

. . .

After a night’s rest, she rose the sun and went to Gallus who was standing ready with her schedule. The moment he saw the sheepish smile on her face he sighed.

“Let me guess.”

“I was hoping you could cover for me?”

“And where are you going to go Princess?”

“Ponyville, just a friendly visit.”

“Hmm and it has nothing to do with Hearts and Hooves day?” Twilight blushed and whistled nonchalantly while Gallus sighed and smiled a bit. “Fine, I’ll do it but you owe me another day off.”

“Deal! Thanks Gallus.” He nodded and went along to start the day while Twilight was about to leave but felt the urge to be adventurous. She turned and ran towards her balcony, jumping off and allowing herself to fall for a moment before her wings opened and she rocketed up into the clouds. She smiled and twirled a bit, sure she was no Rainbow Dash but the alicorn did enjoy a nice fast flyby and added a trick or two here and there to work out her wings.

Ponyville entered her sight and she glided down to town square. Several citizens that she didn’t recognize quickly bowed out of respect but most who had long grown used to the princess and who had been asked to not bow to her when she would visit smiled and waved. Twilight nodded to those that bowed and she smiled, waving at Lyra and Bon Bon, asked Derpy how her route was going, and checked in with Carrot Top on her crops.

She decided to check in with Pinkie first as she trotted over to Sugarcube Corner. She entered and heard her old friend’s voice call out for Pumpkin or Pound to check who it was as she was busy with Cheesecake. Twilight giggled as the twins quickly shouted not it but Pound came from the kitchen with a pout until he saw who it was. “Princess Twilight!”

“You all working on some new recipe?”

“Kind of, Pumpkin and I are trying to use what we’ve learned from Aunt Pinkie, Miss Twist, and Miss Bon Bon to create our own candy!”

“Ooo I’d pay for something like that.”

“Well once it’s done we’ll send you some! Only too bad we could never learn from Miss Applejack or Mister Spike. The five of them all together were the best cooks Ponyville ever saw!”

“Don’t forget to include your parents, they did teach Pinkie all she knows. May I talk to her?”

“Oh sure, Uncle Cheese is visiting his old friend Sans Smirk so Pinkie is watching Little Cheese. I’ll go get her.” Pound left and Twilight waited, hearing a gasp and Pinkie appeared with Little Cheese on her head.

“Twilight! I knew you would be visiting! Little Cheese’s Pinkie sense told us one of his aunts would be visiting!”

“Really? How did you know it would be me?”

“Heh with Hearts and Hooves day coming up, I had bet that you would be coming to get some stuff for a date with Spike.” Twilight blushed a bit and shook her head at how smart Pinkie could be sometimes.

“Actually I came for some advice. I’ve never been on a date before and seeing that this will be our first date I wanna make it special…”

“You were with that unicorn before weren’t you? You two never went on a date?“

“We both preferred staying inside and reading or experimenting together. That was our idea of dates. Spike is more lively and well fun so I want to take him out, any ideas?” Pinkie hummed and rubbed her chin in thought, Cheesecake mimicking her actions.

“Well if you want something lively and fun I’d say a party but a date party is more my style. Oh I have to tell you about the time that Cheese took me to an amusement park for a date and we ended up becoming fun inspectors and we were given permission to host and design the park’s ending celebration. It was an amazing date.”

“Umm Pinkie… my date?”

“Oh yeah that! I’d say you two are more relaxed than us so maybe a picnic? That sounds like fun and I can make some sweets for you two.”

“Ooo! We can help too!” Pumpkin shouted from the kitchen while Pound shushed her. Twilight laughed and thanked them and promised to send a list over of what to make. She decided to head over to Sweet Apple Acres to get Applejack and Rainbow’s opinion.

The farm was bustling with workers and Twilight followed the sound of the loudest buck, leading her right to Applejack teaching Little Mac how to applebuck. Twilight giggled at the heartwarming smile that appeared on Applejack’s face as Little Mac bucked the tree and filled one whole bucket which made him dance a bit in place. Applejack messed up his mane and hugged her nephew before noticing the princess. She let him run off as she trotted to Twilight.

“Princess.”

“AJ, you know that I hate when my friends call me that.”

“Ah know Twi but while Ah’m on the job Ah am just one of yer subjects. Gotta be a good influence on the new workers.”

“Do you mind taking a break then… I need my friend’s advice. I was hoping for you and Rainbow’s help for something private.” Applejack sighed a bit but nodded and put one of the others in charge while she walked off with a smile.

“Rainbow will be comin real soon as we are just beginnin cider season and she loves to be our tester. We can share a mug or two while we wait, ya look like ya need a break.” Twilight happily accepted and the two old friends caught up while sipping at their mugs. Rainbow arrived just as Twilight was laughing at Applejack’s story of how a drunk Big Mac was singing for Sugar Belle for their anniversary.

“You two started drinking without me!? Now that’s just unfair.” Applejack rolled her eyes and trotted over to Rainbow, sipping from her cup and putting it to Rainbow’s lips.

“Stop yer complaining RD, Twi here needs our help. You can share my mug.” The wonderbolt captain straightened up, immediately ready to help her friend and princess until she heard what the problem was and burst out laughing.

“You really sweating over this? You were able to beat several super evil villains, become a princess, travel to a whole other world, turn several villains to our side and so much more but a date is more than you can handle?”

“This is new for her Dashie, Ah think it’s cute she cares so much. Plus, after all that Spike put us through for his dance Ah think this is in character for them.”

“I’m not sure how much help I’d be, I’m not a big romantic. I say you put out, I mean he’s still a virgin right?” Twilight blushed red at the suggestion before Applejack hit Rainbow in the back of the head.

“Get yer head out of the gutter gurl, she’s bein serious!” Rainbow frowned, rubbing her head as she muttered.

“So was I…” Applejack sighed before giving Twilight a kind smile and placed a friendly hoof on her shoulder.

“Sugarcube, no one in the world knows Spike better than you. After all that he did to get the Gala ready, Ah trust you’ll come up with the perfect date no matter what you choose to do. If ya want some of my advice though, that picnic idea was golden. You can even have it here on Sweet Apple Acres.”

“Oh thank you thank you thank you Applejack!” She hugged her friends and agreed to come for a proper visit next time. She headed off to Fluttershy’s when Rainbow shouted after her.

“But seriously! Think about putting out some of that princess flank!” Twilight’s face heated as several workers looked at her and she gave a small wave before flying off, leaving behind an arguing couple.

. . .

She landed in front of Fluttershy’s Sanctuary and reached for the knob before stopping and casting a spell, destroying any of Discord’s tricks before he could spring them. She opened the door and found him lying on the couch with a small pout. “Spoil Sport.”

“Mutant.” The two shared a glare before smiling and he moved allowing her to sit next to him. “So Fluttershy?”

“Just feeding the animals. Why are you back in town? The princess job getting too rough? Hasn’t even been a century yet, you know, I could always take over if you wish.”

“Not in your wildest dreams. I just wanted her advice on what I should do on my date with Spike.”

“I’m hurt, you don’t want to ask me? I am one of his best friends!”

“I know you are but you also would love to make me look dumb in front of him.”

“Usually you’d be right but then I’d not hear the end of it this guys’ night. He’d be whining and just keep going on and on and it just wouldn’t be fun.” Twilight sighed and decided she’d hear him out at the very least.

“Fine, what you got?”

“Why not play a game with him?”

“What like O&O?”

“No, more like a challenge sometime during your date. He may not show it as much as your rainbow or cowgirl friends but the dragon has a love of challenges and contests. Just make one that is more… couple centric. Fluttershy and I have a few ourselves like-”

“Discord!” The two jumped to see a blushing Fluttershy entering with a herd of bunnies all around her. “Those are not things you share casually… I overheard a bit of your conversation and Twilight I think Discord may have a small point. Before your picnic maybe tire him out a bit with some fun or a game. Starlight and Trixie would be best for this sort of thing, you know they get out a lot more than me. I’ll have my birds checking in on your date though so on your picnic they can help set the mood.”

“Heh thanks Fluttershy and you too Discord. I’ll think it over and head on over to the school and check in then. Luster is there with her parents also with classes being out for the summer so it will be nice to check in.” Twilight waved before trotting back to Ponyville and felt her pride soar seeing her old school and how much more inclusive and productive it had grown under the careful eye of Starlight. Students of all races were running around, playing, reading, relaxing, and just having fun. Many even wore the signature cape and symbol of the Cutie Mark Crusaders. Luster Dawn was nearby with her group friends, all laughing in a circle. Twilight looked on and smiled longingly.

“You know, you could have one too, now that you finally got a drakefriend.” Starlight joked before standing next to Twilight and looking at Luster with a proud motherly stare. “I never thanked you… for all you’ve done for her.”

“Because it wasn’t necessary. She earned her place as my student, just as her mother did. I must say, I wasn’t too shocked to find a child from you and Sunburst was so magically gifted.” Starlight blushed a bit at the praise but shook her head and giggled.

“I still say you should have one~ I can be an aunt twice over! Plus you and Spike would make some cute and powerful hybrids.” Twilight blushed and turned sharply to her former student.

“Starlight! There are children here!” Starlight laughed and led the princess into the school.

“So what can I help you with Twilight? You haven’t really been over for a casual visit in quite a while.”

“I’m sorry about that… work you know?”

“You have no idea.” They stopped when Flurry came around a corner with Trixie at her side. The two seemed to have been in the middle of a conversation when Flurry saw Twilight and nearly ran to her but she quickly looked back at Trixie who giggled and nodded letting her go ahead. She smiled and rushed to Twilight, the two doing their sunshine sunshine greeting.

“Auntie Twilight! You didn’t tell me you were visiting!”

“It wasn’t really planned. I came to get some advice for Hearts and Hooves day.” Flurry blinked before a small smirk appeared on her face and took on a knowing smile that Twilight usually saw on Cadence.

“Oooh I see~ Well I should leave it to the grown ups then heh. We can finish this talk later Miss Lulamoon! I’m gonna go check in with Pound and Pumpkin!” She waved and ran off. Trixie shook her head and hugged Twilight before joining her and Starlight. After making it to the teacher’s lounge, the three sat for and Twilight marveled a bit at big and more homey the room was.

“I had the CMC redesign the room, Applebloom is quite the carpenter. I like it.”

“And you were all afraid of whether or not Twilight chose the right pony for the job. I always knew you were the only logical choice.” Starlight smiled at the praise from Trixie before they turned to Twilight and Trixie’s old personality came back a bit. “So princess, how may this great and knowledgeable counselor help you today?”

“Nice to know some things never change.” Twilight caught them up and Trixie leaned back in her seat while Starlight smiled at the memory of her first date with Sunburst. “So what kind of fun activity should Spike and I try?”

“First, Applejack is right and you are way over thinking things and if you are worrying through the date then Spike won’t have fun. Relax and breathe. Now, you came to us for our idea of a fun date location hmmm.”

“Trixie says the club would be a nice place to tire him out.” Twilight grimaced a bit at the suggestion.

“You’re forgetting my dancing ‘skills’.”

“Actually Trixie may have a point. Vinyl and Octavia recently opened a new club here in Ponyville that isn’t too crowded and they let patrons sing. If you are nervous about dancing maybe you can sing. I know you can do that.” Twilight tapped her chin in thought. It wasn’t a bad idea.

“Trixie also volunteers to teach Twilight Sparkle a few moves that will leave the dragon begging for more.” Twilight blushed and actually agreed to Trixie’s help.

“I don’t know what to sing…”

“Well, luckily for you we have one of the best music groups working here. Starlight called the CMC to the lounge and the three excitedly agreed to help Twilight come up with a song. With that planning down, she had one last place to go. It was late afternoon when Twilight arrived at Carousel Boutique. She knocked expecting Sandbar or Yona but Rarity herself answered the door.

“Darling! What a sweet surprise.”

“Rarity, just the pony I was hoping to find. Where’s Sandbar and Yona? How have you been?” Twilight asked as Rarity led her inside.

“I had been asked to attend a fashion show in Yakyakistan but I decided that this would be a good chance for Yona to show off her original designs and the dear wanted to show Sandbar her home for the longest time. I sent them in my place and I have no doubt she’ll be a better addition than me. I recently opened myself up to dating again. I must say I didn’t expect so many suitors...”

“Yona would argue that. You are one of the most popular designers… like ever! I think any stallion worth his mane would say you’re still a catch.”

“I had a fine eye for details, a fine assistant, and the best friends a mare could ask for to motivate me. To be frank I was lucky. That’s kind dear I must say I had been a bit afraid to put myself back out there but I’m glad I did. Now what can I help you with today?”

“I was hoping you could help me with a date idea… I talked to everypony and have made a solid night planned but I was hoping to hear your take.”

“Hmm let’s hear it then.” Twilight recited her plan one more time and Rarity smiled at how she had planned it all. “Well I must say that this plan is very nice and doesn’t have much room for improvement. I think I may have a gift though.” Twilight waited patiently as Rarity teleported away and reappeared with something in her magical hold.

“I-is that?”

“The very same.” Rarity smiled showing her old necklace which proudly displaced Spike’s old fire ruby. Even with all the years, it shined brilliantly and it was obvious Rarity kept it in good condition.

“I-I can’t… he gave it to you.”

“True, he gave it to the mare he loved and now I give it to the one he loves.” She hooked it on to Twilight’s neck and smiled. “You’re perfect now.” Twilight hugged her and the two held each other.

“Thank you… promise to visit and tell me more about your dates? Which one has caught your fancy.”

“Only if you promise to visit more and tell me about how the date went.”

“Deal.”

. . .

This was it! A whole day of planning had passed and everything was perfect. Spike would be arriving soon and Twilight knew he would need a shower and food before their date. She waited and nearly ran to the door when she heard the knock and the guards announced Spike. He looked a bit drained but all signs of wear vanished the moment he saw Twilight.

“Twi!” He flew to her and the two hugged tightly. Spike rubbed a claw through her mane and down her back making Twilight shiver. “I missed you and I have a lot to report.” Twilight held him close and sighed a bit.

“I missed you too. Do we have to spend all day working? Can it wait? I actually planned a date for the day…” Spike smiled and nodded.

“You planned a date? This will be interesting. I suppose it can wait a day then.” Twilight smiled and kissed him on the cheek.

“Good, now you go wash up and grab a few gems before meeting me at the front door. Brush your teeth and maybe you’ll get a kiss on the lips next time.” Twilight giggled at how quickly her dragon zoomed off. She trotted to her room and took a bath before slipping on her Gala dress and hooking the fire ruby onto her neck. She arrived at the front door, just as Spike was coming from the kitchen, licking his fingers and wearing his Gala suit. His eyes wandered over her figure, stopping at the necklace and smiled in understanding.

“You’re gorgeous…” Twilight blushed and rubbed her head with a hoof.

“And you cleaned up well my handsome dragon.” They shared a laugh at the flirts and Twilight flicked her tail at Spike’s chest as they left. “So how’s the breath?”

“Minty fresh. Wanna test it~” She opened her wings and smirked a bit before jumping into the air.

“Maaaybe~ But you’d have to catch me first!” She went off as Spike smirked and opened his wings before going after her.

“That’s my girl! You know it isn’t smart to test a dragon!”

“It is if you have the skill to back it up!” The two flew with Twilight just staying out of Spike’s reach. They were no wonderbolts but the two were a show for any that happened to see them. Spike had just caught Twilight by the tail as they arrived at Ponyville. They landed on the outskirts of the town and Spike kissed her neck as Twilight struggled a bit and giggled before shooing him off. “Nice flying but we can play more later I have our whole date planned out and we’re gonna start running late if we start playing that game now~”

“Of course you have it all planned out heh. Fine, I'll wait, so what are we doing first?”

“We’re hitting the club.” Spike raised an eyeridge as he followed the princess.

“Wow the club? You really are going all out.” Twilight smiled, eager to show Spike what she’s learned. They passed several friends on the way to the club, Lyra and Bon Bon were sharing a milkshake, Twist was hanging out with Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, Flurry took a picture of the two before giggling and running off with Pound and Pumpkin, several students were out and about spending time with their special somecreature.

They finally arrived at the club, a recently built building with an underground level. Bulk Biceps was the door stallion and smiled when he saw them, giving a small wave.

“Hey Bulk, how’s the job?” Spike asked as the pegasus shrugged a bit.

“Easy. Every kind of creature is welcomed so I let in most. I'm just here to make sure some banned members of the public don’t enter and gotta keep things civil inside. Some ponies have a bit too much cider sometimes.”

“May we go in?”

“Of course princess! Welcome to Hyper Harmony.” He moved and let the two into the building which started with a long dark hallway that was lit by neon lights. Music could be heard and it only got louder as they got to the end of the hall and it expanded into a large circular room where ponies of all types were dancing with no care. Neon lights were everywhere giving directions to places like the bathroom while the bar was bright blue.

“Hey I know those guys!” Spike shouted to be heard over the crowd and pointed at the act on stage that was just ending. “That was Foal Out Boys! Love their songs.” Twilight giggled at how Spike geeked out a bit and asked him for a dance before asking him to save their spot and she trot off. Spike could have sworn that she shook her flanks but she was gone so quick he wondered if it was just his perverted mind hoping it.

Twilight walked past the curtain beside the stage and smiled when she saw Vinyl with her trademark headphones and shades. She nodded at the princess and let her get on stage to check everything before she cleared her voice before announcing that a special guest wanted to sing. The stage curtain opened to Twilight on stage with a spotlight on her. The CMC around her with instruments and Scootaloo on the drums.
There's a place I know, it's always jumping!

I'm thinking we should go and leave our worries.

You got a friend in me, and I'll tell you something:

This time can be extraordinary!”

Twilight winked at Spike as he stared up at her and she pointed her hoof at him and another spotlight landed on him.

When shadows fall you're feeling small.

It looks like walls are closing in.

Don't be afraid, the dark will fade,

Just take my hoof and look again”

She jumped off the stage and flew as she sang, gliding over to Spike with the crowd moving to give her room. She kept singing as she offered her hoof and Spike smiled taking it, pulling her close and dancing with her.

“This side of paradise, is where I want to be.

This side of paradise, for you and me.

This side of paradise, what you get is what you see.

And I never thought I'd see a place as nice,

This side of paradise.”

Spike spun her and gently took her mic and decided to take the next verse himself as they danced.

“We're gonna take a ride, we're gonna catch that train.

When you're at my side the world has hope and,

As we pass on by, we all look the same.

The clouds are high, the world is open!”

“Forget about the pain and doubt,

Your happiness is overdue.”

“I've been dreaming of the skies above,

Dancing through the stars with you,

Oh, take me to…”

“This side of paradise, is where I want to be!

This side of paradise, for you and me!

This side of paradise, what you get is what you see!

And I never thought I'd see a place as nice!

This side of paradise!

They finished as a duo, Spike dipping her at the moment and smiling at the cheers around them. The moment was made even better when he felt lips touch his own and he found Twilight had kissed him in front of everyone and was blushing in his arms. He chuckled and tossed the mic to another pony before kissing Twilight himself. Twilight proudly showed off the moves Trixie taught her, dancing on her dragon and incorporating her hips and flank into the dance. Spike was thankful to Celestia he decided to wear pants. The two danced, drank, and sang a bit more before waving to Vinyl and the CMC for their help and thanking them.

The two walked out and decided to take the long way to Sweet Apple Acres. “Sooo when did you learn those moves back there? I think you had every stallion and some mares watching you the whole time you were on my scales~” Twilight giggled with a blush tinting her cheeks.

“So what did you think of my moves?”

“I think we were lucky I was wearing pants.” The two laughed and Twilight explained how Trixie and Starlight taught her to dance. She made a face when Spike burst out laughing as she said she had to use Trixie as his stand-in when she was learning. “Oh what I wouldn’t give to watch you dancing on her!”

“Keep your dirty mind to yourself Cadence.

“I’ll take that as a compliment.” Twilight looked at the time and used her magic to make the sun start to set. “It’s crazy, I honestly expected things to go wrong by now heh.”

“Thanks for the confidence boost Spike…” He rolled his eyes and kissed her cheek.

“Come on you know I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant that whenever we were involved in love things when we were younger it always usually got real insane real quick. Remember me telling you about Big Mac’s proposal?”

“The Canterlot Wedding.”

“Cranky and Matilda's wedding.”

“You showing the CMC that love poison.”

“Pinkie and Cheese’s Wedding.” The two shivered at that memory, they swear cake was still in places cake never should be. “Okay okay I get your point, love was never our strong suit.”

“I happened to be a master hopeless romantic! A title I wear with pride.”

“Heh so I have a thing for hopeless boys? Makes sense.” They finally arrived at Sweet Apple Acres and on one of the hills Spike could see and smell the picnic prepared.

“Oh I love you.”

“Applejack did always say the way to a boy’s heart is through his stomach~ Go on.” Spike rushed at the picnic, happily devouring the homemade food. Twilight joined him and while she tried to keep up the princess look, even she fell under the spell of fatty homemade cooking and gave Spike a run for his money. Once they finished, they sighed in content while laying on their backs and patting their stomachs.

“Can’t we just hire our friends to cook for us?”

“Nope, we’d get fat too fast.”

“Mom never got fat.”

“The princess had some magic going on there. I swear I will learn all her secrets someday…”

“I don’t think any of us will ever find all her secrets. It was just her nature to hide things away. ” Spike leaned up and sighed looking at the sun as it was just disappearing over the horizon. Twilight got up and laid her head on his shoulder, leading him to smile at her.

“You miss her?”

“Yeah… even our letters take longer to reach each other. I wrote to her, telling her all about us and she was so happy. She told me she was out of Equestria with Luna.”

“She’ll come back soon. They both will.”

“I know but I guess it’s just the dragon in me. I want to hold on to what and who I love and hoard them.” Spike put an arm over her and pulled her close. The two shared a kiss as a shooting star went overhead. “Thanks for the best date ever Twi.” Twilight blushed a bit and gave him sultry eyes as she touched her hoof to his chest.

“The date’s not quite done yet~” Spike blushed red and smirked a bit before a loud shouting match nearby ruined their mood. They rushed to the sound and found the new CMC (Pumpkin, Pound, and Flurry) arguing with Rainbow Dash and the old CMC. “What are you all doing?” Spike crossed his arms as Twilight gave them her princess face. All froze under her gaze and Rainbow Dash decided to be the adult.

“Well… The CMC and I were just curious about how the date was going and whose advice you decided to follow… Plus we wanted to make sure nothing went wrong but then we found we weren’t alone.”

“And you?” Twilight asked, turning to Flurry and the cakes. Pound and Pumpkin pushed Flurry forward and she smiled sheepishly.

“Umm… We wondered how far you two would go and came to watch?” The cake twins facehoofed.

“Flurry, you’re supposed to lie at these kinds of moments!”

“WHAT?! You two didn’t say that!”

“Well, I can say you all effectively killed our mood.” Twilight raised her nose at the groups but then Spike kissed her neck making her eep in surprise. He smirked and winked at them all.

“Yeah but this was a great first date, besides,” He hugged Twilight and opened his wings. “Her birthday is coming up soon and I have a great gift in mind now~” They laughed at Twilight’s blush before Spike jetted away, leaving them with their mess. Twilight snuggled into his hold and was soon asleep. He landed gently on her balcony and laid her in bed. As he left, magic pulled on his tail and he chuckled walking back and laying beside her.
