Princess Celestia and Queen Novo must fight through the Storm King's gladiatorial arena

With the aid of his loyal followers, the Storm King is resurrected from his shattered stone prison, and as an act of revenge, kidnaps Princess Celestia and Queen Novo, forcing them to compete in his gladiatorial arena. Should the royals successfully win 3 matches, the Storm King will let them go and take no further action. But if they lose, he will unleash an onslaught of attacks on both Equestria and Mount Aris. As Celestia and Novo begrudgingly agree to compete, scars from the past will reopen and it might just jeopardize their chances of making it through this gauntlet in one piece.

Chapter 1: Calm Before the Storm

Princess Celestia always looked forward to visiting Mount Aris, even if it was for royal duties. Not only was it a beautiful place, but the hippogriffs always enjoyed her company, especially Queen Novo. The defeat of the dreaded Storm King has strengthened the relationship between the ponies and the hippogriffs, and they were in awestruck by Celestia's beauty and charm. Plus, it also means that she gets to spend time with her old friend.

Ever since returning to the surface, the Queen has been very busy trying to not only restore Mount Aris to its former glory, but also maintain Seaquestria on top of that. Having her daughter Princess Skystar around helped some, but it was still a little stressful. But she felt confident in herself and her subjects, especially with the Storm King no longer a threat.

As Novo was getting the kingdom ready for Celestia's arrival, she started to reminisce about her husband, the late King Waverider. He would have loved to see the kingdom come back, especially after that faithful day. Before she could think about it even more, a familiar voice filled her feathered ears.

"Novo!" Celestia excitedly exclaimed. "Its been a while."

"Celestia! It's been too long!" Novo came up to Celestia and gave her a big hug. "I was hoping you would arrive soon. Come, let's head to the meeting quarters."

Celestia followed Novo, mesmerized by how much the hippogriffs managed to get done in restoring their kingdom. It was not too long ago that Mount Aris was completely in ruins. Now it looks closer to how it was during its heyday, before the Storm King invaded.

"You sure made a lot of progress repairing your kingdom." Celestia remarked. "I am very impressed."

"Well, it certainly wasn't easy," Novo sighed. "The east side still needs some work, but one of my subjects insists on leaving it as is, for historical significance, as she puts it. Frankly, I think she just wants to take more pictures of it, and I don't want to be reminded of the past ever again..."

"I completely understand where you're coming from." Celestia replied. "However, in my years of ruling, one thing I've learned is that you can never hide from the past. Instead, you learn from what happened to better yourself."

Novo seemed reluctant to hear about that. She's felt so much grief, guilt, and anguish over that faithful day, and she wanted to forget it ever happened. Celestia noticed the look on Novo's face, and didn't want to try and open up old wounds.

"On the bright side," Celestia added, hastily changing the subject, "you no longer have to worry about the Storm King anyone."

"Yes, that is true." Novo replied, seeming much more chipper. "I'm glad he's finally gone, and he was brought down with help from my dear daughter nonetheless! I can sleep so much easier knowing that he can't harm us anymore. Now then, let's start the meeting, shall we?" Celestia nodded, and she and Novo headed to the meeting quarters. Little did they know, however, that their meeting wouldn't be going as expected.

When the Storm King was defeated after being turned to stone and shattering into pieces, it was agreed upon by the ponies and the hippogriffs to scatter his remains across Equestria so that they would be difficult for his massive army to locate. But the Storm Guard were fiercely loyal, and were determined to find what remained of their leader and bring him home. For months, the most elite trackers scoured every square inch of Equestria for each stone piece. Some searches turned out successful, but many ended in failure.

But at long last, after so many restless months of searching, the last fragment the Storm King has been found. The sentries grab the final piece and made their way back to the Storm Kingdom, a dreary, dreadful place where even the bravest of souls would dare not enter. Within the heavily armed fortress at the center of the kingdom, the Storm Guard gathered with all the fragments of their departed leader, placing them on the makeshift turntable. Soon, the remaining guards arrive with the last piece, adding it in with the others. The massive brutes have managed to reverse-engineer the effects of the deadly Obsidian Spheres from much trial and error. They also were waiting for a particularly big storm to utilize enough lighting energy for their big plan: revive the Storm King.

The rumbling of thunder filled the air. The time was right. The Guards raised the turntable onto the roof, which slowly opened to the oncoming path of the storm. Pylons and pistons began to pulsates, and electricity began surging through the room. Bolts of lightning began hitting, causing the entire room to shake, with the Obsidian Sphere antidote working it's way through, and suddenly, the shattered fragments of the Storm King began to come together, fusing where they should be, and then, a massive flash of light, almost as bright as the Sun, illuminates the room.

When the light quickly faded, the turntable was slowly lowered. The smoke started to clear, and there he was, almost as if he never shattered or was turned to stone. His hand twitched, and his cold, blue eyes finally opened.

"Yes..." he growled. "At long last, the Storm King LIVES AGAIN!!!"

He leapt from the turntable, landing on his feet. The Storm King glanced at his troops, smirking. "I commend you all for your hard work and devotion. You have no idea what its like being encased in stone, being in itty-bitty little pieces, scattered by those wretched ponies! I never want to go through that again!"

The Storm King made his way to the balcony of his fortress, observing everything that has happened in his absence. Not much has changed, but he wanted to make up for lost time. And he knew exactly what to do.

"Normally I would take this time to expand my empire further, but I have some unfinished business to attend to." He left his balcony and headed for his refined airship. "Gather our top officers," he ordered, "I want to pay a visit to some old aquatences"

The airship loaded up, with the Guard's highest-ranked generals boarding, and the Storm King quickly joining them, back in the chain of command. He wanted revenge. He wanted to punish the ones responsible for his humiliating defeat. He wanted to show that he was a force to be reckoned with.

His destination: Mount Aris.

Chapter 2: Captured

Back at Mount Aris, Princess Celestia and Queen Novo were wrapping up their meeting. It went fairly well, and they wanted to take the remaining time to catch up with each other. Both have been so busy these days that they rarely get to do anything together. And since Celestia had some time left, she wanted to be with her old friend just a little longer.

"So tell me about those 'seaweed wraps' you like. Do you eat them or something?"

Novo chuckled. "You have no idea how lovely these are! They really help the complexity of your skin so much. I really reccomend them if you want to feel as smooth as a SeaPony's bottom."

"Oooh!" Celestia was intrigued. " I would like to try that out if it's as good as you say it is. I could definitely use one as a way to relax!"

"I'm glad you think so!" Novo replied. "I get one to relieve some of my stress. Plus it makes feel young. Come on, I'll take you to my personal specialist. They're a master of their craft!"

Celestia followed Novo down the mountain to get her first ever seaweed wrap. But not too far ahead, the massive airship of the Storm King was slowly closing in.

He observed from main deck, growling. "So, they managed to restore their precious kingdom, completely undoing all my hard work." Suddenly, he noticed Celestia and Novo. Smirking, he decided to set his plan in motion. One of the generals grunted, wondering when it would be the perfect time to strike.

"Patience, lieutenant." said the Storm King. "You know the most important rule of combat; catch your enemies off their guard."

As Celestia and Novo nearly made their way down the mountain, a rumble of thunder filled the air. Both royals looked up, confused. There wasn't suppose to be any rain this week. Something was not right.

Suddenly, two Storm Generals crash down onto the area where Celestia and Novo were at, knocking both rulers off their feet. "What?!" Novo gasped, getting up from her fall. She and Celestia soon got a glimpse of the Generals.

"It's impossible..." Celestia remarked.

"Who cares if it's impossible or not, we can't let them get any further!"

Celestia and Novo charged after the Storm Generals, but they miscalculated their movements, as the Generals dodged their movements, pulling out electrical prods and viciously zapped both rulers, causing them to scream in intense pain.

"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!"

They soon fell to the ground with a loud thud, completely in shock and unconscious from the surges of electricity filling their bodies. The Generals soon picked up the unconscious rulers, ready to return to their master. The ship lowered, and the Generals boarded with their new prisoners. The Storm King grinned, satisfied with the success of the mission. "Quickly," he ordered, "before they spot us!" The airship soon made its quick escape from Mount Aris and headed back to the Storm Kingdom.

"Mom! Miss Celestia!"

Princess Skystar heard the screams of her mother and Celestia. She flew as fast as she could to the edge of the mountain. Normally she isn't involved in royal meetings, usually taking her mother's place on the throne, but the distressing cries she heard alerted her, and she swiftly took off to find out what happened.

"Mom! Miss Celestia! Did something happen? I heard you both scream, I hope you didn't-"

On the edge of the mountain were some of Novo's feathers. This was a clue that something was wrong. Skystar was on the verge of panicking.

"Mom?! Miss Celestia?! Where are you?!"

Skystar's cries went unheard from her mother, as Novo, along with Celestia, were far from Mount Aris and were heading for the Storm Kingdom, their fate completely unknown. Inside the airship's holding cell, the rulers regain consciousness, and try to take in their surroundings.

"W-where are we?" Celestia asked.

"I'm not sure." Novo replied. "But when I find out who did this, they're gonna pay dearly!"

Suddenly, an ominous and familiar voice filled the air. "Well, I see our guests have finally waken up." He walked up to the cage to glimpse his prisoners. Celestia and Novo could not believe their eyes.

"It... it can't be." Celestia said.

"No. Impossible! The Storm King?!" Novo added.

"Miss me?" The Storm King remarked. "You are looking very well my dear Queen Novo, a little less, uh, fishy than normal. And you, Princess Celestia, well, you look fine I suppose."

"But how?" Celestia asked. "You were turned to stone and shattered into pieces!"

"Correction! I was turned to stone and shattered into pieces! But thanks to my loyal army, I'm finally back, baby!"

"You better release us this instant, you oversized baboon!" Novo angrily demanded. "When I get my talons in you-"

"Temper, temper," the Storm King said, interrupting Novo. "I'll let you both go in due time. But right now, I have have some important business with the two of you. For too long I was encased in stone, scattered into tiny little pieces! And upon my restoration, I began to think, what better way to get my revenge on the ones responsible for my mishap in the first place than capturing two of the most important individuals in their ranks? Oh, it's only the beginning..."

"What are you going to do to us?" asked Celestia.

"Oh, you'll see in due time!" replied the Storm King. Soon the airship returned to the Storm Kingdom. "Let's go, ladies! We're going to have so much fun here!"

The Generals shackled Celestia and Novo to make sure they wouldn't try to escape as they exited the airship, heading towards what appeard to be an arena of some sort. As they approached closer and closer, the residents of the kingdom got a glimpse of the outsiders, grunting in anticipation for what would happen to them.

At last they arrived at the arena. Celestia and Novo were taken to a special holding chamber, but not before witnessing a brutal battle from within the arena. Two massive creatures appeared to be fighting to the death. Claws slashing, teeth gnashing, and deep booming roars could be heard echoing out. The two behemoths clashed until one ultimately fell. The victor was then shackled by the guards, but still put up a fight. The audience couldn't care less, and continued to cheer for the monster. The last thing that Celestia and Novo saw was the best flinging one of the guards into the stand.

The Generals soon unshackled the rulers and tossed them into their holding cell. One of them grabbed Celestia, who's attempts at fighting back were fruitless through the General's tight grip. He placed a strange device on her horn, then tossed her back in the cell.

"What the- AHHHHHHHHHHHGH!" Celestia tried using her magic, but the device glowed and she received a painful shock. Soon the Storm King reappeared to taunt his victims.

"Welcome to my Colosseum! This is where you'll be spending your time here in the Storm Kingdom! Why, you should feel honored!"

"Honor?" Novo sneered. "I don't feel anything but the urge kick your hairy butt all the way to the other side of the world!"

"Now now, my dear Queen Novo," lamented the Storm King, "save your agression for the ring. You should be proud to be the first hippogriff to ever compete in my area! And Princess Celestia is the second pony to compete here, right behind my former lieutenant Tempest Shadow!"

"C-compete?" Celestia wearily asked, still recovering from the shock.

"Yes!" The Storm King gleefully replied. "Also, like your new accessory? It's a magic blocker designed to give a 'fair' fight in the ring. If you attempt to use your magic, you get the zap. Cute, isn't it?"

Celestia and Novo didn't say a word, and instead angrily glared at the Storm King.

"Anyway," he continued, "you two will compete in my area. Gladiatorial sport is very popular here in the Storm Kingdom, so what better way of enacting the next phase of my revenge than having you two fight in it? I am a humble yeti though, and if you manage to win three matches, I will allow you both to leave, and take no further action. But, if you lose at least one match, I will send my army to wipe out both your kingdoms. Do we have a deal?"

Novo wasn't buying anything he said. "Do you expect us to believe such a blatant facade?! Fat chance! We'll never do such a-"

Just then, Celestia interrupts the irate hippogriff. "We'll do it." She said with heavy reluctance. "But you must promise to not take any further action against our kingdoms should we win the matches"

"What?!" Novo said, in complete shock.

"Ah, I knew you would agree to this!" The Storm King delightfully said. "Especially when your kingdoms are on the line! And don't worry, I'll keep to my promise. Now get some rest, ladies. We have a busy day ahead of us!"

The Storm King cackled as he and his Generals left. Novo was completely distraught as to what Celestia agreed to do.

"C-Celestia? How could you? Why would you even think of making a deal with that monster?"

"I had to do what I had to do," Celestia replied, "for the safety of my subjects. I trust you would have done the same."

Novo didn't say anything, seeming very reluctant. She was all to familiar with the Storm King's endeavors. For the moment, all she and Celestia could do was get some rest. Today didn't go exactly as planned, and it was only going to get even more challenging for the royals later on, as they had to win 3 gladiatorial matches, or risk having their kingdoms decimated.

Chapter 3: The First Match

Celestia and Novo slept through the night without worry, even through they had reluctantly agreed to complete in the Storm King's gladiatorial arena and secure three victories, or face the destruction of their respective kingdoms. They rested together in their cell until the dawn arose. A loud banging sound awoke them.

"Rise and shine, ladies!" The Storm King said, banging on a miniature gong. "You have your first match today!"

The rulers begrudgingly got up. "I swear, I outta shove that gong where the Sun don't shine..." Novo crankily remarked.

"Save it for the ring, sister." The Storm King replied. "Now then, let's get you gals fitted for your armor!"

The Guards opened the cell, and the Storm King escorted Celestia and Novo to get them fitted for their armor. Once there, the rulers seemed uncertain about their choice.

"Are you certain that we'll be protected wearing that?" Celestia asked.

"Who needs protection?" The Storm King lamented. "Its about the entertainment, putting on a show! Besides, it's the only thing we got for a pony like you."

Novo started to angrily glare at the Storm King.

"Oh, and a hippogriff like you too!" He hastily added. "Now get suited up. You have an audience dying to see your first match!"

Novo was the first to get her armor on. It was fairly easy for her due to her dexterous forelimbs and talons. Celestia had some trouble getting her armor on, handicapped without the aid of her magic, so Novo helped her out. Finally, Novo put her helmet on, and she and Celestia began to walk out and into the arena.

"Are you ready for this?" Celestia asked her friend.

"I'm not sure. I just want to get this whole thing over with." Novo replied.

They entered the ring and saw that the stands were packed with Storm Creatures abroad. At the very top of the balcony was the Storm King himself, along with two Guards. He was eager to get the match started as the crowd cheered in anticipation. He got up and announced the match.

"Welcome, my dear subjects, to another glorious day at the Colosseum! Today we have a historic event taking place, as we have here the rulers of both Equestria and Mount Aris competing for the fate of their kingdoms! If they can win three matches, they'll leave this arena with no consequence!"

The crowd let a dissatisfied growl at the prospect of Celestia and Novo winning.

"But! If they manage to lose any match, I will lead an all-out attack on both kingdoms, wiping them out and leaving their inhabitants to my will!"

The crowd's groans went back into cheers upon hearing the prospect of that idea.

"Before we begin the match," the Storm King added, "do our competitors have anything to say?"

"Just shut up and let us fight already!" Novo shouted.

"Oooh, eager to get started, aren't we?" The Storm King said. "I like that attitude! Now we introduce you to our first match. You two will be facing off against one of the most dreadful, most vicious, most bloodthirsty beast to ever lay foot in the Storm Kingdom. I present to you...... the ThunderWraith!"

A loud banging echoed through the stadium. The sound of thrashing claws began to emit through the air. Celestia and Novo turned around to face their opponent. The banging grew louder and louder, until the gate finally opened. A massive black, white, and grey beast emerged, looking like a cross between a dragon and a wolf. Its snarled face, matched with its frilled coat and massive wings would send chills down anypony's spine. It bellowed at the sight of its opponents.

"GAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKK!!!"

The crowd erupted in applause and cheer at the sight of the creature. Celestia and Novo stood there in complete shock, while the Storm King sat on his throne and grinned in anticipation.

"Let the match begin!" He announced. "And remember, ladies, your kingdoms are on the line here!"

The ThunderWraith charged at Celestia and Novo, but they managed to get out of the beast's path, causing it to crash into a wall. It shook its head, then turned towards the rulers and snarled. The crowd roared in cheers.

"So how do we stop this... thing?" Novo asked Celestia.

"I'm not sure." Celestia replied. "We need to determine its weaknesses and bring it down from there."

Their banter was soon interrupted by the ThunderWraith's slashing claws. Celestia and Novo charged at the beast, but were then pinned down. The monster roared at them, then proceeded to slash at them until Novo slashed back with her talons. The ThunderWraith wailed in agony as the crowd continued to cheer on. Enraged, the monster charged at Novo and pinned her to the wall. Celestia, sensing an opportunity, charged at the creature and rammed it with her horn. The ThunderWraith responded by kicking Celestia across the arena. Novo looked in horror as the beast flew towards Celestia, and all the while, the crowd watched in amazement, cheering on the ThunderWraith while the Storm King observed from his balcony, pleased with how the match was going.

Novo flew towards the creature before it could attack Celestia and began to slash at it. "Leave her alone, you brute!" she yelled, digging her talons into the beast's back. Roaring in pain and rage, the ThunderWraith flew into the air, trying to shake Novo off. It kept ramming into the walls, but the Queen held on. The creature then crashed down to the ground, sending Novo off it's back. Novo went to check on it, but it soon sprang up and was about to pounce on her, but then Celestia swooped in and gave a swift kick to the beast's face, sending it tumbling down with a thud. It seemed that Celestia and Novo managed to secure their first victory.

But the ThunderWraith wasn't going to go down so easily. Though weakened, it still had some fight left. Another charge and the beast grabbed the rulers and took off in the air and dived down, slamming both Celestia and Novo to the ground with tremendous force. The dust slowly cleared, and there was Celestia and Novo, seemingly lifeless on the ground. The ThunderWraith let out a triumphant roar, and the crowd cheered and applauded. The Storm King chuckled to himself, as it seemed that the deal he made with the rulers fell into his favor.

However, Novo's talons started to twitch. Soon enough, she and Celestia got up, battered and bruised, but not beaten. The ThunderWraith, annoyed at seeing its victims still standing, roared and charged. Celestia and Novo took to the wing, and performed a combo move together, hitting the beast with great force. The impact was enough to send the vicious ThunderWraith to the ground, completely knocking the monster out.

The crowd was silent. Some were in awestruck, others felt that it was inevitable. But their eyes didn't deceive them. Even the Storm King was in disbelief as to what he's seen. But it happened. The ThunderWraith has been defeated, and by a pony and hippogriff no less. The crowd erupted in a combination of applause and disappointed grunting, with Celestia and Novo standing there, looking stoic.

"Well, it seems that we have our winners!" The Storm King announced. "But can they win two more matches?"

The crowd continued cheering and growling, and the gate opened up, signaling the end of the match. Celestia and Novo entered the gate, lucky to have survived the first match. They finally breathed a sigh of relief, but they knew that they probably wouldn't get lucky the next time.

"How are you feeling?" Celestia asked Novo.

"Brused, battered, and sore everywhere. But I'm fine" Novo replied.

"I must say, ladies, I am beyond impressed!" The Storm King said, walking in. "That was the most entertaining thing I've ever seen! I could watch that for hours on end if I had the opportunity! You were a natural, Celestia! And you, Novo, I haven't seen you fight that hard since that faithful day!"

Novo paused. Any reminder of that day filled her with angst. She turned around and told the Storm King, "Never remind me of that day ever again."

"Novo, calm down." Celestia said. "Don't let him toy with your emotions."

"Oh, definitely, my dear!" The Storm King said, clearly striking a nerve. "Though I must say, while I was busy expanding my empire, you were busy hiding in that itty bitty little fishbowl under the sea. I don't know about you, but doesn't that seem a bit, oh, what's the word, cowardly?"

"I said, zip it." Novo angrily remarked.

"Alright, alright!" The Storm King chuckled. "You certainly showed your strength in the arena today. You know, your husband put up a good fight, and well, look where that got him."

"RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

Something in Novo just completely snapped. She pounced on the Storm King, pinning him to the ground. Celestia tried her best to get Novo to snap out of her rage, but it was fruitless. The Queen was stricken with blind, uncontrollable anger.

"IT'S BECAUSE OF YOU THAT HE'S GONE!" she screamed. "YOU TOOK EVERYTHING AWAY FROM ME YOU FILTHY APE! I SWEAR I'M GONNA TEAR YOU TO PIECES- AHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGHHHHHHH!"

One of the Guards zapped Novo with a prod, sending her to the ground. The Storm King got back up, seemingly unphased from the Queen's attack.

"That's the best you have?!" He laughed. "I should have known how weak you and your kind are. Why, just for that I outta track down your precious Seaquestria and decimate that too! That is, if you lose any of the remaining two matches. Take Celestia and her bitter friend to their cell!"

The Guards escorted Celestia and carried the unconscious Novo back to their cell. They may have secured their first victory, but they still have two more matches to win, and the stakes couldn't be any higher.

Chapter 4: The Day the Mountain Fell

Novo reawoke from her unconscious state after being zapped by a Storm Guard for tackling the Storm King. She looked at Celestia, upset.

"Glad to see you awake, Novo." Celestia said. She noticed Novo looking distraught. "Is something troubling you?"

"Celestia," Novo asked, "do you think I'm.... a coward?"

"Heavens no!" Celestia replied "You fought bravely today!"

"No," Novo said, "I mean, do you think I'm a coward for hiding out with my subjects in Seaquestria?"

"Of course not!" Celestia replied. "You did what was best for your subjects and your kingdom. You didn't want to risk losing any of them."

"I'm not sure." Novo sighed. "I wonder how different things would be if I stayed and fight. Maybe... just maybe... Waverider would still be here." Novo tried her hardest to hold back tears.

Celestia looked very concerned. She walked close to Novo to try and comfort her. "I know it's hard for you to talk about that day, but maybe it would help if you at least told me about it. That is, if you want to."

Novo looked at Celestia. "Alright," she said, "I'll tell you the whole thing." She was hesitant at first, but she felt it would better help Celestia understand why she hated the Storm King so much and why she was not too keen towards outsiders to her kingdom originally. It was a tale of that faithful day, one the hippogriffs referred to as the Day the Mountain Fell.

The day seemed like any other on Mount Aris. It was calm and peaceful, and the hippogriffs were enjoying the tranquility. Queen Novo and King Waverider were enjoying a relaxing afternoon with their young daughter, Princess Skystar, when suddenly a massive explosion was heard throughout the kingdom. Waverider, who was also the Commander of the Royal Hippogriff Navy, got up and surveyed what happened, with Novo clinging to Skystar. The kingdom has been invaded from the north.

"What is it, dear?" Novo asked.

"We're being invaded." Waverider responded. "Quickly, round up the other hippogriffs and initiate our evacuation plan."

Novo was concerned. "Are you sure you don't need help? I could ask Celestia and the Canterlot Royal Guard."

Waverider shrugged off the concern. "Don't worry. I got the finest navy at my command. All we need to do is hold the invaders off long enough for you to evacuate everygriff to the place we discovered. Now go, take Skystar with you. I'll get General Seapray."

Novo reluctantly agreed. She gathered Skystar and headed to the center of town, but not before giving one last exchange to Waverider.

"Promise me that you'll be safe."

"Don't worry about me." Waverider chuckled. "I'll be fine. Now go, everygriff is counting on you"

Both rulers went their separate ways. Waverider went to gather the troops to hold off the invasion, while Novo went to round up the other hippogriffs and get them to safety.

"Mommy, what's happening?" Skystar asked. "Where's Daddy going?"

"Daddy and I have some important things to do, honey." Novo said, with a slight edge to her voice. "Here, let's go see your auntie Ocean Flow and your cousin Silverstream, okay?"

The Storm Kingdom fleet made its landfall, bringing with it a complete onslaught. The Storm King commanded his army to wipe every last hippogriff out, and that all resistance be crushed. Close by, the Royal Navy made its stand.

"This is it, troops!" Waverider exclaimed. "We're the last line of defense against these invaders! We'll keep them at bay long enough for the Queen to get all the citizens to safety. Let's go! For Mount Aris! "

"For Mount Aris! " the troops replied, and they prepared to counterattack the forces of the Storm Kingdom.

"Quickly everygriff! Make haste!" Novo shouted. She has been busy gathering all the hippogriffs to the safety of the caves. In them, there was a magical Pearl that allowed its bearers to transform into the mystical SeaPonies. The plan called for turning all of the kingdom's inhabitants into SeaPonies so they could take refuge in the underwater land of Seaquestria, a long lost city that Novo and Waverider discovered. That way, everyone could evade capture and detection from the Storm King, or worse.

Novo surveyed. Skystar was sent with her aunt Ocean Flow, so she would be safe while Novo evacuated the city. Suddenly, a light green hippogriff, the local shell merchant, quickly came running to Novo.

"Queen Novo! " He pleaded, trying to catch his breath. "Please! You must help me!"

"What is it?" Novo said. "This better be important. We're in the middle of a crisis here."

"It's my daughter, your majesty! " The merchant said, still panting. "She's trapped underneath some rubble, and it's too much for me and my wife to dig through! Please! You must help us, I beg of you!"

Novo grew concerned. Knowing a child was trapped underneath some rubble sent her maternal instincts into overdrive. All the remaining hippogriffs were either back in the caves or already in Seaquestria. "Show me where she is, quickly!" Novo told the merchant, and they quickly made haste.

The battle against the Storm King's army was not in the favor of the Royal Navy. The hippogriffs were getting overwhelmed by the sheer size and scope of the Storm Guard. Not liking where the battle is heading, Waverider had to give the regrettable order to retreat.

"Captain!" Waverider ordered to Seaspray. "We must withdraw our forces immediately! "

"But sir," Seaspray said, "what about the invasion? "

"There's too many of them!" Waverider responded. "I will not risk losing more soldiers! Besides, looks like everygriff has been evacuated! Go! I'll go and look for Novo and we'll hold the line here!"

"Yes sir! Alright troops, fall back! Fall back immediately!"

Seaspray rallied the remaining forces of the Royal Navy and headed for the shelter of the caves. Waverider, meanwhile, diverted to find Novo and hold down the fort while the remaining hippogriffs head to the safety of Seaquestria. The Storm Guard followed the hippogriff king.

Elsewhere, Novo followed the merchant to the area where his daughter is. His wife tried removing all the rubble, but it was too heavy. Finally, they arrived to lend a helping talon.

"Queen Novo! " The merchant's wife was grateful. "Thank the seven seas you arrived."

"Stand back! I'll get your daughter out!" Novo began removing the rubble as quickly as she could. She was nearly there when a massive shadow was appearing. A Storm Creature was right next to Novo and was getting ready to attack. The merchant and his wife slowly backed away, and Novo was ready to stand her ground. The Storm Creature raised its battle axe in the air, ready to deliver the final blow.

Just then, King Waverider swooped in and delivered the first blow, knocking the Storm Creature away. He headed for Novo and they exchanged a heartfelt hug.

"Told you not to worry about me." he said.

"Oh hush." Novo replied. "I need your help. This couple's child is trapped underneath here."

Novo and Waverider made haste in rescuing the trapped hippogriff, and after much work, they managed to see a light-blue color. It was the child, and Novo quickly brought her out from the rubble. The young griff was a little scuffed, but she was surprisingly unharmed.

"Oh, thank you, your majesties!" The merchant said, he and his wife overcome with joy. "How can we ever repay you both?"

"Head for the caves. The other hippogriffs will fill you in." Novo replied. "Hurry now!"

The hippogriff family did as they were told, and headed for the caves. Novo and Waverider stayed behind to hold down the fort. Just then, a massive cannonball fell from the sky right near the king and queen, knocking them off their feet. The fog cast a massive silhouette of the Storm Guard, and as they got closer, it showed how immense the army was. At last, Novo and Waverider got a glimpse of the Storm King.

"Well, look what we have here!" The Storm King boasted. "The Great Queen Novo and her dear King Waverider. I get to finally meet you two at last!"

"What do you want from us?" Novo asked, as she and Waverider got back up. "Why are you doing this to our kingdom?"

"Oh, I just needed to expand my reach even further," the Storm King remarked, "I want to show other kingdoms the might of my forces, that I mean business."

"We can work this out peacefully." Waverider attempted to plead. "Just call off the invasion."

"And miss the opportunity to try out my new weapon? " The Storm King held an Obsidian Sphere. "You should feel honored to be the first test subjects for it." The Storm King tossed it in Novo's direction.

"Novo, look out!" Waverider shouted, as he shoved Novo away and was hit directly by the Obsidian Sphere. "AAAAAHHHHHHHGGGGGHHHH!" His body was slowly petrifying to stone, completely unable to break free.

"W-Waverider?" Novo said, witnessing the horror of what was happening to her husband.

"T-take.... care of..... Skystar..... and our.... kingdom...." the hippogriff king was now completely turned into a statue, still with a distraught look on his face.

"Waverider?!" Novo was in utter shock. "What have you done to my husband?!"

"Nothing major." The Storm King chuckled. "Just turned him into stone, nothing more. And now comes the fun part!"

A Storm Guard handed his master a massive sledgehammer. The Storm King made his way to the petrified Waverider, completely unable to fight back. Novo knew what would happen next, and she became incredibly worried.

"No, wait!" She pleaded. "What are you doing?! Keep away from him!" Novo's cries were completely ignored, as the Storm King raised the sledgehammer and delivered the fatal blow to Waverider.

"WAVERIDER!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!"

In one massive hit, King Waverider, the once proud and noble king of the hippogriffs, was smashed to pieces. The Storm King handed the sledgehammer back to the Guard, while Novo was grieving the loss of her beloved.

"No, no, no no no NOOOO!!!" Tears ran down the Queen's face as she lied near the rubble of her husband. She experienced loss before, but this was the biggest blow for her. Not only was Mount Aris gone, but so was the hippogriff she loved the most. The Storm King came close to the crying Novo.

"There, there, my dear." He said, seeming like he was trying to comfort the distraught Queen. "Its alright, there is no reason to be upset. You will reunite with your dear husband soon enough. "

Novo looked up at the Storm King and noticed him holding an Obsidian Sphere. Gasping, she pushed him away and ran as fast as she could go, fleeing to the safety of the caves.

"Do not let her escape!" He growled, ordering his troops to chase after the Queen. Novo was running at top speed, with the Storm Guard quick on her tail feathers. She was completely terrified at the prospect of being captured.
Soon enough, the fog proved to be an advantage her, as she was able to give the slip on the Guards chasing her. She successfully made it to the caves, sealing the entrance so that the Guards would not find her, or the remaining hippogriffs. The Storm King looked everywhere for Novo, and grew increasingly more angry.

"How does a hippogriff just disappear like that?!" He shouted. "Rrrgh! No matter, the coward's fate is sealed. We're done here, let's move out!"

The entire Storm Army pulled out of Mount Aris, once the bustling home of the hippogriffs, now a barren, eerie, and desolate place. Back inside the caves, Novo reunited with the remaining hippogriffs, who were pleased with her return. Skystar ran up to her mother, giving her a big hug.

"Mommy, Mommy!" She exclaimed. "I'm so glad your here! But where's Daddy?"

Novo's jovial smile went to a depressed frown. The other hippogriffs knew that the look on her face was not a good sign. Novo tried her best to remain calm, but it was a near impossible task.

"Honey," she said, trying her hardest to hold back tears, "Daddy... won't be here to join us."

All the hippogriffs were transformed into SeaPonies, with Novo being the last one. As she dived into the pool, she took one last look at the interior of the caves, knowing that there was no going back. She grabbed the magic Pearl and dived down, ready to start her new life in Seaquestria.

"I was never truly the same after that day" Novo told Celestia. "Everygriff managed to move on. But it was hard for me. I let that day haunt me for so long. It changed me. I became too prideful, too protective, and when outsiders came asking for help, I turned them away. I-I was afraid of what would happen if we were discovered, that the Storm King would be after us again."

Celestia tried her best to comfort Novo. "You did what you had to. And you kept you subjects safe. That's what really matters. You had a right to me weary."

"But at what cost?" Novo remarked. "I was pulling double duty ruling, when before Waverider and I ruled on equal footing. I put too much pressure on Skystar, especially during her adolescence, and I turned away your student and her friends when she needed help!"

"Well, I mean, she did try to steal your Pearl."

Novo gave an unamused look at Celestia.

"Anyway," Celestia said, once again getting back on track, "you did what you felt was best for your kingdom. That is what's important. I know I've had to make some really tough decisions. Some hurt more than others. I know exactly the kind of pain you've been through. I know what it's like to lose someone you care the most about. Believe me."

"The only difference is" Novo added, "you at least got to see your sister again." Novo stated to break down and cry.

Celestia, feeling upset, gave Novo a big hug, comforting her. "I just want to let you know that you are one of the bravest individuals I've ever met." She said. "And don't let anyone tell you otherwise"

Novo, wiping away her tears, started to feel better. "Thank you." She whispered. It was painful to talk about the past, but really helped Celestia better understand what Novo went through. The rulers, however, had to face even bigger obstacles ahead, as two more matches had to be won before they can finally go home. For now, all they could do is rest and regain their strength for the next match.

Chapter 5: The Second Match

View Online

Despite the ferocity of the last match, Celestia and Novo managed to rest fairly well. When they got up, they felt a little sore, but they regained their energy for the next match.

"How do you feel?" Celestia asked Novo.

"Physically, a bit sore, but not too bad. Mentally, though..."

"I see you ladies rested well after your big performance." The Storm King barged in, interrupting the rulers' conversation. "And it looks like our early bird is feeling better after her little, ah, episode yesterday."

All Novo did was angrily glare at the Storm King.

"Remember what we discussed last night, Novo." Celestia said. "Keep your emotions in check. Don't let the past haunt you."

"Yes, Novo!" The Storm King mockingly remarked. "Enjoy the present! There's no need to get so wrapped up over something that happened so long ago!"

"Zip it, monkey boy." Novo snapped back. "I can look after myself, thank you very much."

"Good." The Storm King said. "Because this next match will be even more ruthless than the last."

He opened their cells and escorted the rulers to the arena. The crowd seemed even bigger than it was last time. Word broke out about the previous match, and now the Colosseum was packed with spectators wanting to get a glimpse of how Celestia and Novo will fare in the next match. The crowd cheered in anticipation.

"Welcome back for another fine day at the Colosseum!" The Storm King said atop his balcony. "We had quite the match yesterday, as Princess Celestia and Queen Novo managed to defeat the dreaded ThunderWraith! But today will be even more challenging for our competitors, as they will go against two of our crowning champions!"

The crowd cheered on at the prospect of Celestia and Novo taking on two of the Storm Kingdom's most ruthless fighters. The rulers were completely confused until the other gate opened. From within walked out two heavily armored Storm Creatures, once members of the Guard, now having homed their skills in the arena.

"I present to you," the Storm King announced, "Bash and Thrash!"

The crowd roared with applause. Bash and Thrash raised their weapons up and grunted in anticipation. Celestia and Novo were ready. If they could defeat a creature as fearful as the ThunderWraith, then they can surely take out these two warriors.

"Let the match begin!" The Storm King exclaimed.

Celestia and Novo charged just at the same time as Bash and Thrash. Just then, Novo stopped mid-charge, noticing Bash's weapon. It was a massive sledgehammer, almost eerily similar to the one the Storm King used to kill King Waverider all those years ago. The painful memories started to make their way back, and at the worst time possible.

"Novo? Why are you stoppin- UNNGH!"

Before Celestia could finish, Thrash tossed her to the side. He lifted his battle axe in the air and was aiming for Novo. In the nick of time, Celestia recovered and pushed Novo away as Thrash lowered his weapon.

"What's gotten into you?" Celestia asked.

"I don't know." Novo replied. Bash and Thrash slowly crept closer to the rulers. The crowd cheered on, as the Storm King watched and grinned with anticipation.

Celestia and Novo got back up to face their opponents. Novo noticed Bash was getting closer to her, and she grew more nervous. Celestia knew something was up.

"Keep away from me!" Novo shouted.

"Novo, what's wrong?" Celestia asked.

"That weapon," Novo replied, "it was almost like the one used to... kill Waverider."

"Remember Novo, don't let the past cloud you." Celestia said, as she dodged a swing from Thrash.

It was easier said than done. Novo tried her best to shake off the memories, but it was nearly impossible. Bash took this as an opportunity to taunt and toy with the hippogriff. He would swing the hammer to see how Novo would react. Ultimately, it proved too much for her.

"Leave. Me. ALONE!!!" Novo shouted, shoving Bash away from her.

Celestia knew that the match would not go anywhere with Novo trying to avoid attacking. She flew towards her friend to try and reason with her.

"Novo, we aren't getting anywhere." Celestia said.

"I'm sorry, Celestia," Novo remarked, "I just can't. I'm trying as hard as I can, but it's just eating me up!"

"So why don't I fight the one with the big hammer, and you focus on the one with the axe?"

"Oh. That sounds like a good idea."

It was settled. Celestia took on Bash and Novo squared off against Thrash. This put Novo at ease, and she was able to concentrate on the fight. Despite their opponents seemingly overwhelming them, Celestia and Novo were able to fully take the brutes on. They were much more agile than the Storm Creatures, despite the heavy armor they were wearing, and were able to dodge every swing and swipe from the weapons of their opponents. They delivered successful hits too, but sometimes their opponents would do the same.

Through determination and raw strength, Novo managed to get the better of Thrash, finally defeating one of the famed gladiators. Celestia was having some success in fighting Bash, but at times it was too tough, even for a powerful alicorn. Novo saw Celestia in distress and went in to help, but every swing of the sledgehammer Bash wielded caused her to be reminded of that terrible day. She tried her best to compose herself, but no matter what, the memories latched on to her, opening up old wounds.

"Novo!" Celestia cried out, trying to get Novo's attention.

Ultimately, through the distressed look on her friend's face and the fear of losing her, Novo broke out of her repressed trance and flew to the aid of Celestia. She let out her all on Bash, slashing him with her talons and kicking with her legs. She fought aggressively, and soon enough, Bash fell to the ground, defeated.

The crowd, and even the Storm King, stood there in disbelief once again. Defeating the ThunderWraith was one thing, but defeating two of the most revered gladiators in the entire kingdom was even more surprising. The crowd erupted in uncontrollable cheer and applause. Some annoyed groans were made, but they were drowned out by the excitement of the crowd's cheers. The Storm King was mildly disappointed, but he knew that there was one last match, and there was a surefire way that his side of the deal would play out.

"Well, I am impressed!" The Storm King announced. "Looks like our new champions have won another match! But can they endure one last match and win the safety of their kingdoms?"

The gate opened up and Celestia and Novo exited the arena to head back to their cell. They were worried about what was in store for the final match was. But there was more pending matters.

"Is everything okay?" Celestia asked Novo. "You seemed a bit off today."

"Yes Novo!" The booming voice of the Storm King echoed through as he showed up. "I must say you gave it your all, but you certainly slipped a little during the match. Something eating your tail feathers?"

"It's none of your concern." Novo replied.

"Good!" The Storm King said. "Because you now only have one more match before I let you two go! Assuming you'll actually win it."

Alright," Celestia said, "spill it. What do we have to fight this time? Another massive monster or another one of your elite warriors?"

"Ha ha, you're funny!" The Storm King chuckled. "Of course not. I wanted to make this final match the toughest one yet. You two... must fight each other!"

"WHAT?!" Both rulers exclaimed in complete and utter shock.

"That's right!" The Storm King said. "What else would make for a fitting final match?"

"This wasn't part of the deal we made!" Celestia protested.

"The deal was that you had to win 3 matches. What's so hard to understand about that?"

"You did this on purpose!" Novo shouted. "You wanted one of us to fall so you could attack their kingdom! Well I refuse to battle my friend!"

"You have no choice, my dear." The Storm King explained. "Not if you value your kingdom."

"I would rather fight anyone besides Celestia!" Novo said.

"Oh? And who would you rather fight? Face it sister, you have no other option. Either you fight each other, or I'll just end things right here and begin my attack!"

"I'll fight anyone, I swear!" Novo insisted. "I'll even fight you!"

The Storm King paused for a moment, completely shocked at the idea of being challenged. Then he busted out in laughter.

"You're out of your league here, hippogriff!" He said, still laughing. "I'll have you know that my combat skills are unmatched! You wouldn't even last a minute in the ring with me!"

"I'm dead serious." Novo growled. "Besides, we have some unfinished business."

"Then I accept your challenge!" The Storm King replied, still chuckling as he left. "I could use a good laugh. And you will be fighting me alone. I admire your ruthlessness, you would have made an excellent addition to my army."

The Storm King left and Celestia was in utter shock at Novo's decision.

"Tell me you aren't going to take on that brute by yourself, Novo!" she said.

"I have to." Novo replied. "He's the main reason we are in this situation in the first place. I did it to save you. And I'm doing it for my kingdom. For Waverider."

Celestia had the right to be concerned. The Storm King tormented Novo for years. She was worried that one mistake could spell doom for both Equestria and Mount Aris. Novo shrugged off those concerns, however, as she was determined to do what she felt she should have done years ago. For too long the past has haunted her, and now she has the chance to settle the score and avenge her kingdom and, most importantly, her husband.

And this time, she's not going down without a fight.

Chapter 6: The Third Match

View Online

Celestia and Novo had trouble sleeping through the night, but for varying reasons. Celestia was worried that she may never see her friend again. After winning the second match, the Storm King told them that the for the final match, they would be forced to face off against each other. In a desperate plea, Novo insisted that she face off against the Storm King instead, to which he gladly accepted. The prospect of Novo facing off against this brute worried Celestia like a mother concerned for her child.

Novo, on the other hand, was eager to get the match started. She wanted to settle things once and for all. Ever since the Storm King invaded Mount Aris and killed her husband all those years ago, she felt incredible guilt. For years she had to live in fear that the Storm King might find out where she was, and strike once again. This paranoia affected her in a way, having strict curfews on her subjects and making sure no one leaves the safety of Seaquestria. She turned away outsides in fear that they would be discovered, and word-of-mouth might tip off the Storm King. She bottled up this fear for so long, but now, she was tired of hiding, tired of being afraid. She now had the chance to settle the score, and perhaps, this will allow her to avenge Waverider's death and let her be at peace with herself.

The Guards arrived to get Novo. She got up. She was ready. Celestia was still concerned.

"Novo," she said, "please reconsider."

"I'm sorry, Celestia." Novo said. "I have to do this. For you. For our kingdoms."

The guards escorted Novo to get her armor on, and into the arena. Celestia was all alone in the cell, and she started to cry.

In the arena, Novo walked out, all decked out in her armor. She saw that the crowd was even bigger than it was for the other two matches, to the point of it seemingly overflowed. Word-of-mouth spread quickly across the kingdom, and many flocked to the Colosseum to see what would be one of the biggest matches in the kingdom's history: The Storm King vs. Queen Novo.

Soon, the gate opened on the other side to reveal the Storm King, who was decked out in armor as well. In one of his hands he wielded a large spiked mace, and made his way to the center of the arena to make his announcement. Novo glared at him, wanting to get the match started. The Storm King soon addressed the audience as he has done with the previous two matches.

"Welcome, my dear subjects, for another exciting day here at the Colosseum! We had an unexpected change in events, as Queen Novo has challenged me to the final match. You all may know how my army and I decimated her kingdom many years ago, and instead of fighting back, she hid like the coward that she is! Doesn't it seem ironic that she would challenge me when she fled during our first encounter? Well now we finally get to have the fight we were meant to have! If she loses, I will finish off Celestia myself and send an onslaught upon Equestria and Mount Aris! Now then, let us begin the match!"

The gong was hit and Novo and the Storm King charged at each other. They clashed with such force that it was almost unheard of. They fought each other with such ferocity. Novo especially fought aggressively. All the pain she endured came out in full force. The Storm King took a few hits, but he managed to dodge many of Novo's attacks. He swung his mace, hitting Novo and knocking her off her feet.

"I told you you were out of your league facing me." The Storm King taunted. "Though you fight pretty well for being such a massive coward."

As he walked closer to Novo, she struck back by slashing at him with her talons.

"AAAAHHHHHGGGHHHHH!!!"

The Storm King wailed in pain and covered his face. As Novo got up, the Storm King uncovered his face, revealing 3 long scars freshly made from Novo's talons across his face. In retaliation, the Storm King charged forward and swung at Novo again, only this time Novo dodged his swing. The two of them went at it once more. As this was happening, the crowd roared in cheer at the spectacle they were witnessing.

Back in her cell, Celestia couldn't see what was going on outside. The Guards watching her wanted to watch the match instead. Seeing as how Celestia was helpless with the magic blocker on her horn, the Guards decided to leave her so they get a better view of the match. Now completely alone, Celestia was able to try something out. She tried using her magic, but she was she met with a jolt of electricity. The pain was awful, but Celestia thought if she tried hard enough, she could possibly break free from the magic blocker. So she tried once again, hoping to get the magic blocker off her.

Back in the arena, Novo and the Storm King were still in heated combat. They both fought like they never have before. Both their armor had scratches on them from all the hits they delivered to each other. Novo kicked and slashed at the Storm King with her talons, and the Storm King returned by swinging his mace at her. Soon, they butted heads and tried to shove each other away.

"You're showing signs of weakening." The Storm King continued to taunt Novo, hoping she would slip up. "Don't worry my dear, this will be all over soon. Perhaps I'll pay a visit to your daughter once I am finished with you!"

"Shut up!" Novo shouted, and she tossed him to the side. It was clear that she wasn't playing around. The Storm King got up and charged, his mace in both hands, and Novo charged back. They resumed combat once again, and the crowd went crazy.

Back in her cell, Celestia tried to get the magic blocker off her horn, but every attempt was met with jolts of electricity. As painful as it was, she couldn't give up. She had to save her friend before anything happens to her. Her groans of pain alerted the Guards, who were watching the match from the other side. They headed for the cell to see what she was up to, and before they could get close, a massive burst of energy emerged from the cell, knocking the bars down. As the light simmered, Celestia was visible, and she successfully managed to remove the magic blocker. As she recovered, she saw that she was finally able to use her magic at last, and the Guards charged at her. Celestia responded by blasting them with her magic.

"Hah, that's better." She said. She then remembered the match was still going on, and she ran out her cell, fearing that she might be too late to save Novo.

Meanwhile, as the match continued, things were not going very well for Novo. Despite her ferocity, the Storm King was toying with her insecurities, causing her to stumble. The Storm King viciously attacked her, hitting her with his mace. The pain was too much for Novo, as the Storm King delivered each powerful blow to her. She finally fell, seemingly defeated. She tried getting up, but the Storm King pinned her down. He then picked her up and tossed her to the other side of the ring. It seemed that the match was finally over. The crowd was cheering on as the Storm King headed for Novo to finish her off.

"Like I said," the Storm King teased, exhausted but still wanting to mess with his defeated opponent, "you are out of your league challenging me. You and your kind are weak. Why else would I have attacked your kingdom so easily? You never stood a chance. And now I get the pleasure of attacking your kingdom once again! You should have fought your friend instead, Queen Novo."

He raised his mace, really to deliver the final blow. "Do you have any last words before I finish you off?"

Novo, weakened, mumbled as she tried to get up.

"What was that, my dear?" The Storm King said. "I can't hear you whimpering like a coward."

"This...... is........ for........ WAVERIDER!!!! RAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!"

Just then, Novo sprang forward, completely catching him off guard. She furiously slashed and kicked him, causing him to drop his mace. Novo grabbed it and started hitting him as much as she could. Her anger was in full show, and there was no holding her back. She screamed angrily as she hit the Storm King with his mace, knocking him into the ground. She then grabbed his neck and raised the mace in the air. The Storm King felt the full wrath of an angry Queen, whom lost almost everything because of him.

"G-acck! T-this can't be!" The Storm King struggled to say as Novo's grip grew even tighter. "Alright, you win! You might as well finish me off now..."

"As if I need you to say that." Novo growled, lifting the mace up.

"Wait! NO!" The Storm King panicked. There was no reasoning with Novo now. She wanted to finish things once and for all. The Storm King knew what was coming to him, and he closed his eyes, waiting for the final blow.

"NOVO!"

Suddenly, a voice echoed through one of the gates of the arena. Novo turned around to see who it was, and the Storm King opened his eyes, in disbelief that he was still alive. As it turned out, it was Celestia.

"Novo, what are you doing?" Celestia said, in utter shock at Novo's bloodthirsty demeanor.

"Stay out of this, Celestia!" Novo insisted. "I'm doing what I should have done years ago." She pinned the Storm King down and raised the mace up again.

"Please!" Celestia protested. "Think before your act, Novo! This isn't like you!"

"I said STAY OUT OF THIS!" Novo snapped. "I'm saving both our kingdoms here! And your own life too!"

"This isn't the way to do it, Novo! Look at him! He's clearly defeated. He can't harm us anymore! You no longer have to fight!"

"You have no idea what this monster has done! What he has taken away from me!" Novo said, growing ever more impatient. "And now I'm gonna return the favor!"

"Novo, please. Listen to me!" Celestia grew more and more desperate to snap Novo out of her zealous rage. "Do you think Waverider would want you to do this?"

Novo suddenly paused. Her heart sank. She knew what Waverider would want. He would strongly disapprove of this blind aggression. Tears ran down her eyes. She dropped the mace, and tried to compose herself. She then turned to the Storm King, still on the ground, and picked him up by the neck.

"If you ever come after me, my friends, or my kingdom ever again," she told him, "I promise that I will not spare you."

She then tossed him to the ground. The Storm King looked up at Novo, who limped to Celestia. They have managed to beat the odds. They successfully won all three matches. Novo may not have gotten to finish things off permanently, but she managed to obtain some inner peace with herself, and prove to be the tougher fighter for not finishing off the Storm King in his helpless state. It's not what Waverider would have wanted.

As the rulers left the Colosseum, they were greeted by some unwelcome visitors. Several members of the Storm Guard were waiting for Celestia and Novo. It seemed that the Storm King had one last trick in store for them. They knew that they couldn't withstand another battle, especially Novo.

"Do you have some sort of plan to get us out of here?" Novo asked.

"Just one," Celestia replied, "RUN!"

They sprinted as fast as they possibly can, with the Storm Guard not far behind. Celestia had no trouble keeping ahead, but Novo was falling behind, exhausted from her battle with the Storm King. Celestia headed to the aid of her friend, and the two fled the Storm Guard together. They managed to give them the slip, and headed for the airship dock.

"I guess we'll have to take to the wing now." Novo said.

"In your condition?" Celestia cautiously added? "I don't think you're in any condition to fly."

"Great." Novo added. "So we're just a couple of sitting ducks."

In the distance, things were about to get much worse. Their lead over the Storm Guard has not lasted, as they soon spotted the rulers and charged ahead. Celestia stood her ground, ready to give another magic blast. Novo grew increasingly worried, as she was too weak from the fight to help. Things seem to look incredibly bleak for the pair, until a voice was heard from the distance.

"Mom! Miss Celestia!"

Novo and Celestia turned around to see what appeared to be an airship in the distance. The voice shouted again.

"Mom! Miss Celestia!"

"Skystar?" Novo said. Surely enough, the Queen's daughter was piloting an airship loaned from the Royal Hippogriff Navy. She lowered the vessel to allow the Celestia and Novo to board.

"Princess Skystar!" Celestia cheered. "We're so glad to see you!"

"I am too!" The young Princess replied. "But you can tell me all about it when you get on board!"

Celestia helped Novo board the ship, but the Storm Guard were getting closer and closer. Desperate, Celestia charged up her magic and blasted near the Guard as they got close. This ensured that they could make a quick escape and that they would halt their pursuers. After the airship goes out of sight, the Storm King, still sore and beaten from his fight against Novo, arrived to survey. One of the Guard members grunted, seemingly asking if they need to be perused.

"No," the Storm King said, "I kept my word. We shall let them go and take no action against their kingdoms. For now..."

"Wow! I can't believe my mom kicked the Storm King's butt!"

Princess Skystar was really happy to hear about Celestia and Novo's adventure in the Storm Kingdom. It was the least they could do after Skystar came to their aid and rescued them form the oncoming Storm Guard. She was in awestruck as Celestia told her about the battle against the ThunderWraith and two of the kingdom's most fearsome gladiators, as well as Novo's fight against the Storm King.

"I wish I was there!" Skystar exclaimed excitedly. "Seeing you two take out so many of those goons must have been a sight to see!"

Celestia chuckled at Skystar's affectionate excitement. "It certainly was, my dear."

Just then, Celestia turned to see Novo, who was recovering from her battle against the Storm King. She was watching the scenery around her, with a somewhat distraught face on her. Skystar seemed concerned for her mother.

"Is she... okay?" Skystar worryingly asked.

"She's been through a lot lately." Celestia replied. "I'll go talk to her."

Celestia walked up to Novo to see what was wrong.

"Is something troubling you, Novo?" she asked.

"I'm sorry you had to see my demons today..." Novo replied.

"You didn't do anything wrong." Celestia said. "There's an old saying I'm familiar with. The external wounds heal the quickest."

"I suppose." Novo said. "It's just that I thought finishing the Storm King off once and for all would allow me some closure to the past."

"You don't have to end one's life to defeat them." Celestia explained. "Even if the Storm King caused you great pain in the past, you proved to be the stronger individual by sparing him."

"But he's still out there," Novo added, "and what if he tries to go after us again? I can't bear the thought of him attacking my kingdom again, or yours."

"If the Storm King stays true to his word," Celestia said, "then he won't take any action against our kingdoms. Besides, I'm sure he knows that we can hold our own now."

Novo was still feeling down. "I don't know. That monster took everything from me all those years ago, and I can never forgive him, or even myself for not doing anything about it..."

"He didn't take everything from you." Celestia said, and she and Novo turned, seeing Skystar. The young hippogriff came close to them, wanting to comfort her mother. She put her talon onto Novo's shoulder.

"I hope you're not too upset, Mom." Skystar said.

"I'll be fine, honey." Novo replied . "I just have a lot on my mind right now."

"I know. Miss Celestia told me about it. Still missing Dad?"

"Every day." Novo lamented. "I miss him so much. He would have been so proud of you. But as for me..."

Skystar interrupted her mother and gave her a big hug. "I miss Dad every day too. But I know he would have loved what you accomplished, Mom."

"Thank you, Skystar." Novo had tears in her eyes as she hugged her daughter back. This is what she was wanting these past few days. All the grief and pain she endured was countered by the love and care from her child and her best friend.

"I promise that if the Storm King ever comes after us," Novo declared, "ever tries coming after you, me, or our kingdom, I will make sure he never gets the chance to harm us."

She then turned to Celestia. "And if he tries to come after our allies, know that I will join the fight and help you fend him off. We are no longer gonna hide. If the Storm King tries anything, we'll be ready."

Celestia let a smile out. She was glad that Novo managed to find some inner peace with herself, despite the traumatic events of the last few days. Novo held her wing close to Skystar, feeling much better. While the Storm King was still out there, she didn't worry. The events of those days have opened up old wounds, but she saw it as an experience to better herself.

The rulers looked onward as the airship made its way back to Mount Aris. After a few hours, they finally arrived. The hippogriffs were relieved to see their Queen back, as well as her friend too. Novo was glad to be home as well. She and Celestia had it rough lately, and it was nice to be greeted by familiar and friendly faces.

"Well," Celestia said, "I guess this is where we go our separate ways. For now."

"I suppose it is." Novo added. "I hope you come back and see us again, you know, when you get the chance."

"Don't worry, I will." Celestia assured. "But I've been away from my subjects for longer than expected, and I believe they're worried sick."

Celestia's chariot was waiting for her. She gave Novo one more hug before she had to leave and go back to Equestria.

"It was wonderful seeing you again, Novo." Celestia told her friend. "Even if things didn't go exactly as planned."

"I know." Novo replied. "Don't be gone too long now, okay?"

Celestia smiled at Novo, who waved goodbye as the Princess boarded her chariot, ready to head back home. Despite all that happened, she won't let it deter her in the slightest. After all, Celestia has experienced much worse in her lifetime, and she used those experiences to better herself. This particular event would make one heck of a story to tell.

Novo watched as the chariot disappeared from sight, making it's way back to Equestria. As of right now, she had to get back to her daily routine, but her exhaustion took a bit of a toll on her.

"My Queen," one of her advisers said, "what are your orders now? "

"The Queen needs to take the day off." Novo replied, still sore from the day. "Maybe two. I think our Princess can handle things while I get some rest."

"What?!" Skystar said in complete surprise, walking up to her mother. "But I spent the past few days trying to find you!"

"Dont worry," Novo chuckled, "I'm joking."

Skystar let out a sigh of relief.

"But I'll need a day to at least recover. Momma had a rough couple days, and I'm sore all over. But I'll help you out while you take my place for the day, honey. What do you say we decompress with a seaweed wrap?"

Skystar liked that idea. Soon the two griffs headed to relax and rewind after a stressful few days. Novo was glad to be home at last, and she wanted to take this time to get some much needed R and R.
