> Let's Adopt > by tgb089 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- *COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO!!!* The rooster crows every morning in early sunrise. Rainbow Dash got up and stretched. She turned and shook the orange mare next to her. “Rise and shine,” she said. Applejack slowly sat up as well and yawned. Rainbow Dash gave her a quick peck on the cheek and in a flashed she went to the bathroom. Applejack stared out of the window and see the rising sun. The family sat on the dining table; Sugar Belle, Big McIntosh, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Apple Bloom. There was a small talk on the table. Applejack looked around and listened to Big Mac and Sugar Belle talking about what they’re plans will be over this week. Rainbow Dash almost finished her breakfast, taking in big bite after another. Then chugging down her glass of water Rainbow Dash said, “Alright, see you guys later. I’ll be back.” Rainbow Dash gave another peck on Applejack’s cheek and zoomed out of the house and into the sky before she even hears their farewells. After breakfast, Applejack put on her stetson hat on and began the farm work with Big Mac and Apple Bloom. Just another day, Applejack thought. Sugar Belle and Apple Bloom had been a big help over the years such as feeding the chickens and pigs, chores, and selling apples. Which leaves mainly bucking apple trees to Applejack. Applejack was bucking a tree like usual and Apple Bloom slowly walked towards her. “Um… Big sis, are ya okay?” Applejack didn’t stop bucking and said, “Me? Upset about what? Just doing farm work as always.” After a buck, apples fell from their branches into the baskets. She stopped and moved on to the next apple tree with empty baskets. “Come on Apple Bloom, ya gotta hurry or ya gonna miss the opening of the market.” “Okay… But once Ah come back, we’ll gonna talk about it!” Apple Bloom pulled a wagon to Apple Jack’s previous tree and started hauling baskets of apples onto the wagon. But Apple Bloom returned, Applejack was nowhere to be seen. *** Applejack slowly walked in through the kitchen door and sat down on one of the chairs and laid her head on the table. Steps could be heard inside the house and Sugar Belle came into the kitchen. “Oh, Applejack. Tired? Need a glass of water.” “Yes please,” Applejack responded. As Sugar Belle was filling a glass with water at the sink she said, “So, is there something wrong.” Applejack groaned. “Come now, Applejack. Nothing bad is going to happen if I offer a listening ear.” Sugar Belle took the opposite chair of Applejack and placed the glass of water near her. Applejack lifted her head and chugged the water down and slammed the glass on the table. After a few minutes, Applejack started to open up. “Um… Ah don’t know how to say this but Ah felt something is missing in my life.” Sugar Belle’s ears perked up and said, “I’m sure everybody feels like that sometimes. Do you miss going on adventures with your friends?” Applejack smiled. “Those were good times. But nah, it isn’t that. Is that, when two ponies get together and married and all. They have children, right?” “Oh. Ooooohhhh…” Sugar Belle had an understanding look. “Yes. Having children is a very special thing. Becoming a mother is an entirely new and exhilarating experience, even with all its downs.” “That’s why, just maybe… But Ah don’t know if Rainbow Dash will like the idea.” “Applejack listen to me.” Sugar Belle reached for Applejack’s hoof and held it. “I’m sure Rainbow Dash will think it will a great idea.” > Chapter 2 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rooster cockatoos again the next morning. Rainbow Dash repeats her routine. She was the first to get up, she tries to wake applejack up and kiss her on the cheek, and then bathroom. Applejack again stared out of the window and see the rising sun. Okay. Today is the day I want to tell her. Everyone was eating breakfast as usual. Applejack saw Sugar Belle giving her a wink. Applejack sighed, turned to Rainbow Dash and said, “Hey Rainbow Dash can I talk to ya outside after breakfast.” Apple Bloom raised an eyebrow. When she confronted Applejack at home after selling apples, Applejack said everything will work out. “Yeah. Sure,” Rainbow said with her mouth full. … “What’s the snitch Applejack?” Applejack looked down and scratched her right foreleg. She inhaled then exhaled and stared straight to Rainbow’s eyes. Now or never. “We had been married for about 10 years sugar cube. And Ah have been thinking…” Rainbow Dash gulped in anticipation. “I think it’s time we have a child of our own.” A few gasps can be heard from inside the house but Applejack ignores it. But Rainbow Dash’s jaws dropped. “Ba-ba-ba-bu-bu-bu-pu-pu.” “Uh… Sugar cube. Are ya okay? “Okay!?” Rainbow pointed at herself and then at Applejack. “We’re both mares. Di-Did you wanted to-to do it with a stallion!?” Rainbow was getting a bit hysterical; she wasn’t mad but sounded more upset. “Gosh, dan nit Rainbow!” Applejack grabbed hold of Rainbow’s shoulders and shook them. “I don’t want that!” Then she pulled Rainbow in a hug. “No-no-no. I’m just sayin’ that I want a kid to love and cherish.” Rainbow and Applejack separated themselves from each other. Rainbow Dash apologies and asked, “Why? You raised Apple Bloom and Apple Tom like you’re his second mother. So why?” Applejack was glad that Rainbow Dash wasn't outright saying she doesn’t want a child and be vehemently opposed to the idea. All she needed was to satisfy the question why. Applejack again inhaled and exhaled, she hoped she can put in words. “It’s different.” Rainbow Dash raised an eyebrow. “It just not the same.” Applejack sat on Granny’s old rocking chair on the pouch. “Ah love Apple Tom. But he got a mother and father to love and cherish. Apple Bloom, we all raised her. I’m not her parent. Parents are irreplaceable.” Applejack stared at the apple orchards into the distance. “When I see Big Mac and Sugar Belle with their son, I’m … jealous of what they got.” “And what do they got, Applejack?” Rainbow said sternly. “I’m not seeing it. You helped raised him just as much as those two.” “It’s different when they called you Ma.” Rainbow took a few steps closer and yelled, “No, it isn’t!” The sun was continuing to rise, she had to get to work. “Look AJ, I got to go to work. We can talk more when I come back.” “Hey, wait!” Applejack shouted. In a flash, Rainbow was in the sky and left with a rainbow trail. Applejack got off the rocking chair and tilt her hat downward over eyes and walked towards the orchard to begin her usual farm work. *** “Woah,” Apple Bloom whispered. She turned to Big Mac and said, “Should we go to talk to her?” Big Mac was just stomped as Apple Bloom. What can he say? He never thought Applejack would feel that way. She never discussed it to him. This was a decision a married couple should make. What business should they get involved in that decision? There’s more room in the house for another family addition. Apple Tom moved to Manehatten to pursue his dreams, experience the world a bit. Sugar Belle placed her hoof on Big Mac’s shoulders. “Give her an ear sweetie.” Big Mac sighed and said, “Eeyup.” *** Applejack bucked the apple trees in silence with sweaty brows and intensity. She heard some hoofsteps coming closer. “Oh boy.” She stopped bucking and sat under the tree and looked up and saw Big Mac and Apple Bloom. “Hey, sis. We kinda heard you and Rainbow Dash about… that.” “I figured. Are y’all against it?” Apple Bloom shook her head. “No! I’m happy for you sis. It’s just unexpected after all these years. Like wow, 10 years married. This big red log almost 20 years and Apple Tom is his own pony now.” Apple Bloom lightly elbowed Big Mac’s side a couple of times. “Eeyup.” “And what about ya Apple Bloom?” “Aww shucks Applejack. Don’t turn this around me!” They all chuckled and the air around became a little more lighthearted. Applejack smiled and then frown. “Rainbow Dash doesn’t seem to be keen on the idea.” Apple Bloom and Big Mac became silent while Applejack continued, “Pfft… It’s the same she said.” Applejack said mockingly. “No, it’s completely different. How do I get through that thick skull of hers?” Big Mac coughed to clear his throat. “Well Applejack, maybe Rainbow Dash doesn’t consider herself a motherhood figure.” “What ya talking about Big Mac?” Applejack in disbelief. “Rainbow Dash is a hard-working, career-focused mare. She spends most of her time at work than at home. Maybe she thought she couldn’t be a mother.” Applejack scoffed in disbelief. Even if she couldn’t be around most of the time, she could make a good role model. “That’s silly. Oh, silly-silly Big Mac.” Applejack gave a shallow chuckle and then said, “That’s not how she thought right?” “I’m not a mind reader Applejack. When she returns go talk to her.” … The sun was going down and the shadows getting longer and darker. Rainbow Dash returned her home like clockwork. Both her and Applejack discussed the child matter after dinner in their bedroom. “So, do you still want a kid AJ?” Applejack nodded her head. Rainbow sighed and said, “I thought you would give a second thought after I left.” “I still stand by my decision Rainbow.” Rainbow gave an exhaustive sigh. “Please, for the love of Celestia, tell me why?” “Well, we’re in our 30s. And I don’t want to miss the opportunity to raise a child of our own while I’m still strong and able.” “It sounds like you wanted a kid AJ. Is life that boring for you now?” “No! I enjoyed the life I have now but I been having a lot of free time lately since Apple Bloom and Sugar Belle help out. I want to spend it and share my life with another addition to the family.” Applejack gulped. “Again, you're just bored. You have more free time now and you thought of having a kid will fill the gap.” “Ah am not doing for something that selfish! Ah want to be a mother in my own right. Rainbow, don’t tell me you haven’t thought in all these years in our marriage?” “Well… it isn’t that I never thought about having one.” Rainbow Dash looked into Applejack’s eyes. “You really-really-really want to try this mother thing huh?” Applejack nodded with serious eyes. Rainbow sat on the bed and placed her hooves over eyes and gave a large groan. Rainbow Dash’s mind was jumbled up. Applejack sat next to her and placed a hoof on her shoulder. If Rainbow Dash was acting like this, was it a good decision? It felt like she was guilt-tripping her. “Sugar cube, if you’re so against this we can-” Rainbow stopped Applejack from continuing with a hoof on her lips. “No. I’m not 100 percent against it. Just, um… Got any ideas about how we go about this?” “Adoption.” “Oh. That’s it?” Applejack gave a quizzical look. “Did ya think we go to a bar and convince some stallion to rut us?” "Heh. Not at all." They talked all night about adoption. Conversing about what their child would be or look like, room arrangements, money to buy all kinds of things for their future child. While Rainbow was still anxious, she was happy that Applejack was happy. *** Rainbow still had to go to work and let Applejack handle all necessary paperwork or legality of adoption. After Applejack's share of farm work in the morning, she decided to head over to Town Hall to retrieve some forms for adoption. Once Applejack fetched the forms, she then made a stop at Sugarcube Corner for a light snack. Applejack sat by herself and musing over the paperwork. They seemed like normal forms with questions and fill in the boxes format; names, residence, income, marital status, the usual. The instructions said after completing the form, the form must be sent to Children's Services Agency in Canterlot to be processed and a mail will be sent back with a schedule for an inspector to visit their home. After that more waiting and reviewing, then the authorities can give the thumbs up. “Here is your triple chocolate, double layer frosted cupcakes!” “I didn’t order this,” Applejack said. “It’s on the house,” Pumpkin Cake said cheerfully. She glimpsed at the papers on the table and saw the bold words: “Adoption Form.” Pumpkin Cake’s eyes bugged out for one second made Applejack covering up the papers with her forelegs. “Woah Applejack. Why are you so defensive?” “Ah. Sorry Pumpkin. Just no one outside of the family knows of this.” Pumpkin Cake took the seat opposite of Applejack with a face full of glee. She planted her heads on her hooves on top of the table and said, “Please, please! Tell me all about it.” Applejack blushed and chuckled a bit. “There isn’t some tall tale or anything. We decided to get a child.” Pumpkin Cake still had a gleeful smile and continued to stare at her. There should be more to the story than, ‘we felt like it.’ But Applejack didn’t add anything more and anxiously stuffed her mouth with cupcakes. While Applejack was stuffing her face, Pumpkin Cake asked, “Are you scared?” Applejack almost choked on her cupcakes. “Scared? Me? That’s silly. Ah'm as ready as Ah ever be.” “Mmhmm… Okay! I can’t wait! I’ll tell Pinkie Pie and we can have a big 'welcome to the family' party!” “That’s sound mighty fine. But please keep it to yourself before it becomes official.” Pumpkin Cake motioned her hoof across her lips like a zipper. > Chapter 3 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A week had past since Applejack sent in the application and a letter came from Canterlot. She quickly opened the envelope and read: Dear Applejack and Rainbow Dash, We have received your application for adoption and thoroughly reviewed and checked your background. An inspector, named Night Specs, will come at this appointed time at the bottom of the letter. She will interview yourselves and other household members and inspect the home and monitor your day-to-day activities. The inspection will be your final determination for your eligibility for adoption. Any form of bribery, violence, or coercing will not be tolerated and result in turning down your application and charge for criminal behavior. From: Children's Services Agency And the date was set two weeks from now. Applejack’s legs were shaking in anticipation and anxiety. She breathed a sigh of relief. If the inspector had seen nothing wrong, then they gain the right to adopt a child. Applejack informed Rainbow and tried to be on her best behavior. And hopefully the rest of the family too. *** A grey mare with dark purple mane wearing pointy glasses arrived at Ponyville, Night Specs. She came off the train with a luggage and a satchel. Who came to pick up her was one of the potential parents, Applejack, along with her brother. Two elements of harmony seeking adoption, the headlines would be plastered everywhere. Night Specs was told to keep it professional and on the down-low. Well, these kinds of things aren’t usually shoved into the public’s eye and nobody wasn't interested in exploring other people’s business, except for celebrities. Applejack first greeted the mare and said, “Let help with your stuff Miss…” “Night Specs. But call me Miss Specs.” She pushed her glasses with her hoof. “Nice to meet ya Miss Specs. A wagon is waiting for us outside the station.” Big Mac pulled the wagon without saying a word, while Miss Specs and Applejack sat inside and getting comfy. “May I inquire if Rainbow Dash would not be joining us?” Miss Specs asked towards Applejack. “No ma’am. She works everyday morning until the setting sun. She has weekends off though.” “I see.” Then there was only an uncomfortable silence on their way to the Apple Farm. There was a guest room for Night Specs to occupy for her duration of her stay. After unpacking her luggage, Night Specs walked around the house checking in all the rooms and inspecting the interior; the bathrooms, the kitchen, hallway, windows, doors, and the like. In the living room she slides the tip of the hoof of one of the window sill and observes. Barely any dust, windows looks clean, and bits of dirt here and there on the floor. She let that slide since they were farmers. Applejack was making a pot of tea while Apple Bloom was preparing the snacks. Big Mac went back working on the farm. “This must be nerve-wracking Applejack.” “Sure is Apple Bloom. But Ah am sure it will be all fine.” Applejack and Apple Bloom set the pitch of apple juice and plated of apple-related confectioneries when Night Specs joined the two and placed a clipboard and folders on the table. “Thank you for the accommodation. But can I talk to Apple Bloom alone please,” Night Specs said while eying Apple Bloom. Applejack stared Night Specs then at Apple Bloom before she said, “Yes, Ah can do that.” She placed a hoof on Apple Bloom reassuring her, “It’s okay. I’m sure she will just be asking a few questions.” With that Applejack left the house to join Big Mac, giving the two privacy. Apple Bloom straightens her back and chugged her glass juice and refilled it. “What do you want to talk to Ms. Specs.” Night Specs gave a professional smile and opened one of the folders. It has a profile of Apple Bloom with basic information: birthday, list of family members, and education, and the like. She pulled the clipboard in front of her and straighten and placed a pen in front of her. “I will ask a few questions regarding Applejack and Rainbow Dash. Please answer as honestly as possible. Your answers will just give me more perspective on the married couple.” “A’right. Shoot.” Apple Bloom gave a stern nod. She knows that her answers may affect Applejack’s adoption but as the sister of the element of honesty, honesty was the best policy. Besides, Applejack was a good pony through and through. A flurry of questions was asked like: “What was Applejack like in your childhood?” “Is she an exemplary role model?” “What do you think of Rainbow Dash living with you?” “Have they ever fought?” After each question Night Specs would write Apple Bloom’s response on the clipboard. Even if she hadn’t said anything bad about Applejack or Rainbow Dash, it was nerve-wracking to have her responses being written down. About 30 minutes must had passed and Night Specs said, “Thank you, Apple Bloom, for answering my questions.” “No problem Ms. Specs. So, uh… Are ya gonna question everyone?” Night Specs just gave a nod. “Is it possible for your brother to be interviewed too?” “Yes. I’ll go get him.” After interviewing Big Mac, Sugar Belle was then questioned too. The Apple family continued their business as usual on the farm until sunset. Night Specs kept to herself busy looking over paperwork and her to-do list. The next two days, Night Specs would go out into town and asked the locals about Applejack or Rainbow Dash. The responses varied but all positive. They were pretty good ponies; heroes, local celebrities, former educators. Anybody would be proud to be called friends by them. Night Specs looked over her several comments she wrote down and furrowed her brow. Everything seems all good. Too good, she thought. She talked with the folks living with them, looked at their records, interviewed strangers, and stealthily observed their actions, mainly Applejack’s. Night Specs was at Sugarcube Corner and was looking over her files and notes. Night Specs gave a heavy sigh. “Here your order! One banana vanilla shake and triple layer chocolate fudge.” A hyper voice said next to her. “Oh. Thank you.” “No problem!” The pink mare only looked at paperwork in front of Night Specs. She only giggled and left without bothering Night Specs. I did my job correctly. Not a single blemish on their records. One last interview is with Rainbow Dash. Then leave for Canterlot. *** Rainbow Dash came home just as the sun was setting. She had met Night Specs the previous two nights but hadn’t exchanged a lot of words. But tonight, was Rainbow Dash’s turn for an interview. For more privacy, they went to into a reception room of Town Hall. Sitting the opposite of each other with only a coffee table between them. “What is your feeling on adopting a child Rainbow Dash?” She fidgeted a bit. “It’s exciting and worrying.” “Worrying?” Night Specs noted that on her notepad. “No! Not worrying!” Rainbow Dash facepalmed and was beginning to sweat. Night Specs sighed and tried to Rainbow Dash into ease. “Rainbow Dash, I just want honesty. Calm down, relax.” “But if I slip up now, wouldn’t that mean our chances to adopt a kid would be zero?” Night Specs pulled her glasses off her face and grabbed a handkerchief from her satchel. “From all the ponies and creatures I talked to, there wasn’t a negative thing said about Applejack, you, or the Apple Family. I never met any adopters to show any bad characteristics that I condemned to not being worthy of being parents.” She finished wiping any dirt or smudge on her glasses and placed back on her head. Night Specs continued, “This Q&A is nothing but procedural. Whenever a child is adopted, we always try to keep a close eye on the adopted family and do multiple follow-ups. My personal opinion, you don’t have to worry.” “Right… Thank you. I was just anxious.” "But I'm quite curious. What are you worried about?" Just be honest. Just honest, Rainbow Dash thought over and over. "Will I be a good mom?" "Have you talk about this with Applejack?" "Yes. Only a couple times. It's just always nagging in the back of my head. You know that I'm a Wonderbolt, right?" "Yes I have. A very worthwhile career that many pegasus yearn for." "Yeah... I'm lucky to be one. And it just so happen that I'm up for promotion to be a captain." Night Specs became surprised and said, "That's truly something." Then thought about the meaning. "I see, so you will become more busier than usual. Even not even staying at your residence with your wife?" Night Specs made a note on her notepad. Rainbow Dash was riddled with anxiety. She thought adoption was now hanging on a thread. It was too late, she already said it! Night Specs gave a smile and said, "You don't have to worry. Let's continue." > Chapter 4 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Specs returned the next day to the Children’s Services Agency. An agency that focuses on the well-being and protection of minors, whether it was crime-related, home problems, or adoption. While Equestria was a peaceful and friendly place to live, there’s always a shadow where the light shines. Night Specs was standing in front of her superior and going over her investigation. “I have concluded that the married couple, Applejack and Rainbow Dash are appropriate to be parents and be allowed to be adopt a child.” Her superior nodded and said, “I expected nothing less from those two.” “Then why do I have to inspect and interview them? They’re heroes.” “We always have to do the process, no matter who they are. Besides you got to stay in a hero’s home and ate their cooking. That’s a bonus.” “Well, you’re not wrong.” Night Specs smiled. “Now, it’s also your duty to oversee the adoption and consultation. Take a break while the receptionist scheduled the two for the orphanage visit.” “Yes, sir!” *** Applejack and Rainbow Dash were laying down on their bed next to each other. The moon was high in the sky and yet both mares had not yet slumber. “Are you awake?” Applejack asked. “Yeah. Can’t sleep. You?” “Me neither. I can’t believe tomorrow is the day. Or today.” Applejack chuckled. “Are you excited?” Applejack fidgeted and squirmed a bit. “I feel all sorts of feelings in my belly sugar.” Rainbow Dash moved closer to her partner for their bodies to touch. “Let’s get some sleep okay. We don’t want the kids to see two mares with bags under their eyes and bed head.” “You’re right.” Applejack snuggled up close to Rainbow Dash. They both closed their eyes and breathed steadily. … “Are you awake?” “Please go to sleep.” *** Night Spec stood before the wooden gate of The Celestia’s Canterlot Orphanage. Not the most creative name but with the former princess's name tagged on, it holds a certain kind of prestige and protection. It was the only orphanage in all of Equestria. When a child loses their parents, their relatives will take them in. But, in cases where children had no other relatives, the abandoned, with horrible home lives, or even the run-away. Children from all kinds of circumstances and backgrounds were sent here. This orphanage was created for those minors who had nowhere to go, to be taken care of, and hope to be taken in by a loving family. Night Spec looked up the golden signs of that name longingly. “Howdy Night Specs. Sorry that we’re running late.” Applejack and Rainbow Dash had finally shown up, it was almost a half an hour till one. “You’re not late at all.” Night Specs gave her best smile. “The headmare is waiting in her office for us.” The married couple nodded and followed Night Specs inside passed the gates inside. There was a big lawn between the gate and actual building. This whole area belonged to the orphanage surrounded by walls, a little away from residential area. It was like an untouched area, secluded in its own bubble from the rest of Canterlot. “The place looks… How should I say this...” Rainbow Dash looked around the orphanage. It was extravagant. There’s a playground, a small pool, and a fountain. The building was well maintained, the lawn mowed, and nothing seemed out of place. Night Specs nodded and understood what Rainbow Dash was trying to say. “Former Princess Celestia and now Princess Twilight had always set aside enough funding whatever this orphanage might need it. The orphanage tried to make the best environment for the children.“ Once they get inside, they walked down a hallway and it was quiet. Rainbow Dash and Applejack had expected the sounds of children. “Where are the kids Miss Specs?” Applejack asked. “It’s noon, so they should be having lunch in the cafeteria. Which is in another building.” Night Specs continued leading down to the headmare’s office. Night Specs knocked on the double doors and said, “I brought a wonderful couple today, Miss Bush Berry.” “Come in! Come in!” An elderly voice shouted from within. All three visitors came inside and there was a green unicorn mare wearing a wine color scarf around her neck. There were two seats in front of an ordinary wooden desk. Applejack and Rainbow Dash took a seat in front of the headmare and Night Specs standing beside the headmare. The headmare, Bush Berry, smiled and observed the mares in front her for a moment. “Welcome to Celestia’s Canterlot Orphanage. I’m always pleased to have ponies to be new parents looking for adoption.” Bush Berry pulled a sheet a paper and put on glasses. “A few things to note. Not every child in our little corner of Canterlot wants to get adopted.” “Why not?” Rainbow Dash asked. She assumed that any and every orphan would love to have a family. “Some had considered this place as home, other children their siblings, me and other caretaker as surrogate parents. Especially towards who been here longer like Night Specs here.” The married mares looked at Night Specs in surprised. Night Specs turned her away from them and said towards Bush Berry, “Too personal Miss Bush Berry.” Bush Berry chuckled and said, “Don’t be so embarrassed.” She continued, “That’s why we have these files of children who does want to get adopted.” She opened a draw from her desk and pulled 10 folders and placed them in a stack in front of the couple. “We have at least 30 children under our care and these are available to be adopted. Please take a look.” Both Rainbow Dash and Applejack moved closer to the front of the desk. They peered each file one by one. All ponies from all the three pony tribes. “Oh my. There’s a few babies among them,” Applejack noted. “Yes. It’s very sad. Very rare for leaving their infant in front of our doors.” “Wow, I don’t know who to pick.” Rainbow Dash was quite flustered. One of these orphans were going to have parents while the rest stay here. She held a paper about a male pegasus in her left hoof and a female unicorn infant in her other hoof. Rainbow Dash furrowed her brow. Bush Berry noticed both the mares were tensed. “I seen this before. New parents had a hard time picking and it weighs on their mind that others would be left behind. I assure you, you shouldn’t feel guilty.” “I just don’t know who to choose,” Rainbow Dash said. Bush Berry looked at the wall clock and lunch should be over. “I must apologize but I must teach my lessons. Night Specs please looked after these two.” “Ah, yes Miss Bush Berry.” “Ta-ta.” Rainbow Dash and Applejack sighed a relief. Having the headmare in front of them picking someone under her care had gave a certain kind of pressure and anxiety. Night Specs took Bush Berry’s seat and said, “Take your time. If you can’t decide today, we can schedule a future date.” “Its now or never,” Rainbow Dash said. She continued looking through the profiles over and over. A flier, Rainbow Dash had imagined her future child to take her mantle. But… “Applejack, you had wanted a kid in the beginning. Whoever you picked, I support you 100 percent.” “Nah sugar cube. I want to choose together.” Applejack placed each paper side by side on the desk. “Let’s count on 3 and we pick at the same time.” Night Specs raised an eyebrow. “Okay, let’s do it,” Rainbow Dash replied. Applejack starts the countdown, “Three.” “Two.” “One!” Both their hooves reached towards two different profiles. ”Oh,” both mares muttered. Night Specs's eyebrow twitched then smiled and said, “At least we’re down to two.” Rainbow Dash smirked and placed her hoof over Applejack’s. “This one is perfect.” Night Specs sighed and happy it ended with no argument. “Now let’s get through some additional paperwork but first… Congratulations.” *** Today's farm work and chores was done. Big Mac, Sugar Belle, and Apple Bloom was preparing dinner. "Oh Big Mac, do you think they will be okay?" Apple Bloom asked. "Eeyup." "I'm sure they will be okay. They will bring a beautiful son or daughter and we will support them all we can," Sugar Belle added. "Eeyup." The front door creaked and someone shouted, "We're home!" All three of them ran out of the kitchen and towards the front door. They saw Applejack coming inside while a foal in a blanket. Rainbow Dash came in behind with bags of baby goods. Applejack said to foal with a tear in her eye, "Welcome to the family."
