> Just Another Gala > by Buttery Biscuit > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Yeet > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was just another Gala filled with all kinds of creatures, dancing together to the beat of the music. Discord sat up against a wall watching as the mane six danced with each other. This Gala could use just a little chaos. He smirked as he went through a list. He could have the curtains come to life, or maybe the punch. Everypony's dresses and suits could switch colors, or maybe he could turn the dance floor into ice. There were endless possibilities. "Discord?" Would it be funny if he switched all the elements around? Or would it be funnier if he turned a different element into an Alicorn? What if he got rid of gravity or filled the Gala with jello? "DISCORD!!!" Discord stopped smirking and frowned. His chaotic thoughts had been interrupted. "WHAT? He snapped at Starlight. "Discord...I was wondering....if... I could ask you for a favor. I know you’re bored over here and it would cause some chaos," Starlight said as she hoped he would take the bait. To be honest, she wished she stayed home, this was so boring. Why was the Gala popular again? "Go on," Discord said curiously. What did Starlight consider to be chaos? Maybe she would have a suggestion so wild and so chaotic it would stick with everypony for the next six Galas. He got more and more excited as he watched her dig into her bag. "I want you to do this with me," Starlight said, levitating a DVD out of her bag and over to Discord. She shuffled her hooves nervously, biting her lip in excitement. Today was the day she was living life on the edge. Discord took the DVD and turned it over. In big red letters, it said 'Dirty Prancing'. He had never heard of it before, but then again, he spent a lot of time in stone. Discord used his magic to make a dancing TV appear and put the DVD down into the try. It took him a couple of tries as the TV was dancing. Have you ever tried to put a DVD into a dancing TV? No? Well, it's harder than it looks. Discord pressed the giant red button that said 'do not press' and started watching the movie. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Starlight prancing in place, practically jumping out of her fur at this point. Once he was done watching the movie he looked down at Starlight, and with a smirk, he said, "You want to do this dance? With Moi? I had no idea you felt this way-" "NO!... I mean no. I just want to do the end part. The jump. No offense.," she said with a worried look. She probably should have prefaced this at the beginning of the conversation, but she was just too excited. "So what do you think?" she said, prancing in place. Would he do it? She sure hoped so. Discord pondered his options. Her suggestion wasn't as chaotic as he hoped it would be, but it was a start. He looked around at all the other dancing ponies. Every step they did was so orderly. Every hoof-step went to the beat of the music, no pony out of step. He was bored just looking at them, and he wanted to cause his typical chaos. But doing this would be unexpected, maybe so unexpected it would work better than his usual chaos. "Sure. I don't have anything else to do at this party." He shrunk down to about Starlight's height. "You should be able to jump this high, right?" Starlight thought about it. She wasn't the strongest jumper. So she had to carefully consider Discord's current height. It would hurt to land on the cold, hard gala floor. "I think I can make that. Just make sure to catch me, klutzy Draconequus..." She chuckled as she waited for Discord to respond to her. She still used that nickname occasionally, just to playfully jab at Discord. Especially since he started calling her Stoplight. Discord wrinkled his brows. He had been plagued by the word klutzy ever since he rescued Fluttershy. "Are you sure you don't want to find somepony more trustworthy?" he snapped, "if you’re that worried about it." Starlight just smiled back. "I know you'll catch me." Discord was shocked. It had been a few years since the big battle against Chrysalis, Cozy Glow, and Tirek. He had been doing his best to make it up to everypony since then. It was a hard road; but with the help of his friends, he was slowly making it up to everypony. But them trusting him still made him uncomfortable. "Ok." Starlight looked at Discord, noticing that he kept shifting in place and darting his eyes. He seemed uncomfortable, even though they had all forgiven him a long time ago. He had done enough to make them forgive him six times over by now. He was a great force for good now, even if it had been quite the bumpy start. "All right, what dance should we do before the end part?" Starlight asked. "Well, I know how to waltz the best," he said. "Or maybe the salsa? I don't think there’s a dance that would go well with the finishing move from Dirty Prancing. Unless we do that dance, but you just want to do the jump." Starlight thought about it. The salsa might have a chance at making more sense with a jump at the end of it. "A waltz," she said. "It makes less sense to do that one." She smirked. She knew she made the right choice in asking him to dance with her. Discord smirked back. "And where's the fun in that?" they said simultaneously. Discord bowed and took Starlight's hoof in his claw, leading her out onto the dance floor and already causing a raucous. He brought her in close, and they started off by doing the traditional box step waltz. "I'm so excited," Discord said, knowing they were about to break some fundamental dance rules tonight. "I’m excited too! Do you think it is chaotic enough to disturb the Gala? I was hoping to make things interesting." Starlight said with a huge smile on her face. "Well I wouldn't call it chaotic…" he said as he looked at Starlight, a hint of disappointment rising on her face. "Unexpected it’s for sure. I think it'll stick with everyone. Maybe even more than what I was originally planning. It's definitely a good start to being more chaotic," he said very quickly. Relieved as soon as he started noticing a smile come back to her face. "Do you think not only could you do the pose but toss me in the air? An air spin and pose," she said, cutting through the silence. She had a gleam of mischief in her eye. "I saw that once before. May as well try that too." Discord smiled. "Sure, why not. You know what they say: when in Ponyville, do as the ponies do." They were gonna disrupt this boring Gala together, and they couldn't be more excited about it. They had completed the first section of their waltz when Discord answered. Discord was getting even more hyped up as he spun Starlight out and back into the box steps. In fact, Starlight had never danced so well in her life. All she had to do was follow Discord’s lead. "You are surprisingly good at this. Ironic since it's so orderly," she said, smirking at Discord. She had noticed that he was annoyed at ponies keeping beat. But here he was keeping the beat himself. Little did she know that Discord smiled at her, his first thought was to mess around with the beat. But Discord noticed Starlight having so much fun as they danced that he decided against it. He spun her out again, reaching his head back to some nearby roses in a vase. He grabbed one in his mouth, careful as to not prick himself in the mouth with thorns, and spun her back into his arms to continue the normal dance. He just had to throw some spice into the dance, since she insisted it was too orderly. Ponies had started to stop dancing with their partners and instead started staring. They were grabbing everypony's attention just like they both hoped to. The Lord of Chaos, an expert at the waltz, an orderly dance? His execution of the extra flair caught their attention as it was both in rhythm and went with the dance. Using his claw he removed the thorns from the rose, tucking it into Starlight's hair and behind her ear. "Dancing is one of the few orderly things I just happen to love." With a small pause, he continued. "And thank you for asking me to do this. I was rather bored." He smiled. Starlight touched the rose in her hair, he animated it. The rose's danced back and forth, singing a sweet toon. And even though she swore he had only grabbed one, she had five in her hair. No longer was it red but all different colors, and of course, all clashing with each other. While Discord spun her for the third time, she happened to notice that ponies were staring. In fact, most of them were staring. "Are you ready for the big finish?" "Born ready." Discord made sure all eyes fell onto Starlight as he spun her out pretty far. Starlight took a few prances back and took off running. The crowd’s eyes went wide as she jumped into the air. Discord bent his knees and focused. He would not let Starlight fall on the Gala floor. He had to make sure he focused on catching her and not the crowd. He could enjoy their reactions later. She was running towards him full pace and when she got closer she leaped into the air. There were gasps around her as she landed right into his hands. They both smiled and the crowd cheered. He then zoomed Starlight around like an airplane. "Woooshhhh Stoplight requests for landing." He had to put her on the ground at some point, why not make it fun? Starlight rolled her eyes, and in protest of being put back down, she said. "You promised to toss me. I thought you were a Draconequus of your word," she said, staring down at him, hooves crossed. Discord poofed a hand to his heart. "I am. How dare you accuse me otherwise," he said as he rolled her up into his arm. "Don't panic!" he said, smirking as he turned back to normal height. He then threw her into the air. Not too hard as he didn't want her to hit the ceiling but just hard enough to get her to spin. He planned to use his magic to slow her down so she could pose high up in the air. Starlight spun so high up that when she posed for the crowd below her, her hoof grazed the ceiling of the castle. She then came diving down towards Discord. She made sure to spin a few extra times as she heard panicked cries from the crowd. Discord bent his knees. He had never been so focused on one thing his entire life. He had never cared to either but he would not fail Starlight. He put his arms out and leaned his head back and caught her just as he promised. He smiled at her. They looked around at the ponies beside them. They all looked like they had a collective heart attack. They both started laughing. "You all look like you saw the dead walk. You have never seen decent dancers before?" said Discord asked as he and Starlight laughed at the crowd. He put her onto the ground. She had a hard time walking straight since the room was spinning, and she giggled, "That was SO much fun. We HAVE to do it again!" "AWESOME," said Rainbow Dash as she dashed out from the crowd. "I mean…I guess that was cool, but it would have been 20 percent cooler if I did it." Fluttershy came up behind her. "I’ve never seen Discord so focused before...no offense," she said, hiding behind her mane. "Well, what kind of a friend would I be if I let dear old Stoplight hit the ground?" Discord said with a sly smile. The rest of the main six were there, by Fluttershy's side. They had all looked worried during the dance, but now they looked relieved. "Do you want to try, crash?" Discord said with a smirk. "Or are you chicken?" he said as he transformed into a plaid chicken. "BOCK BOCK" he said, running around on the floor, pecking at cotton candy clouds he put there. "Never in a million years!" Rainbow Dash said. "Do it." There was a fiery glare in her eyes. She would make this move even cooler. Discord turned back and took Rainbow into his arms and cast a purple spell on her wings to make sure she would be safe. "What the hell are you up to, Discord?" Rainbow dash said suspiciously. She depended on those wings for a lot of things in her life, from going places to racing. She needed them to work. "Just a tiny little spell to bind your wings to you. You could get hurt if you puff them out," Discord said while laughing, but it was true. If she put her wing out at the wrong angle at the wrong time, it could send her spiraling. Discord didn't want to take that chance. "What? Discord, no-" But it was too late. He tossed her a lot harder, and he made sure that she would spin faster. He knew she would be fine. Rainbow Dash was a sports junkie. She could walk it off. "Don't forget to pose at the end," Discord yelled at Rainbow who was almost at her position, but she didn't pose. She was too focused on the fact she couldn't use her wings. "Ahhahahaahah!" Rainbow yelled as she plummeted down into Discord’s arms. "I thought that would be like '20 percent cooler'. Like you said, crash," he chuckled to himself. He had seen the panic in her face but he expected her to get over it pretty quickly in order to look cool to every pony in the room. He hadn't expected her to do anything at all. "Do it again. I wasn't ready," Rainbow dash said in a panic. "It was only practice, and I want my wing power back." She felt uncomfortable knowing that she couldn't depend on her wings just in case something went horribly wrong, and it was Discord. So something was bound to go wrong eventually. "Nope, you could get hurt. I should have specified this the first time, one wrong angle could send you spiraling. Just gonna have to trust me to crash." He then got an idea and grinned like a mad pony "or I could just put you down. Consider your first try, not a practice run. It didn't seem like practice to me. Seemed like you were scared" "NO! Do it again." She said a determined look in her eye. "I know I'll blow you away." She was more determined than scared at this point. She had to make sure everyone at that Galla would not leave thinking she was a scardy pony. Discord tossed her into the air again. Rainbow dashed posed 20 times in 4 seconds. She used her speed to make sure all of them looked epic. She then fell down into Discords arms once again. "I guess that was cool....enough," Discord said with a giggle. "Enough?! It was just as awesome as I am," she said as she flew away from Discord. He has released her from his spell. She would be able to fly normally. He was not really all that surprised she wasn't having a hard time flying straight. Next time he would have to spin her harder. "Anyone else wants to give it a go?" Discord said as he reached out his claw. Rarity refused to do it because it would mess with her dress. But he proceeded to toss Apple Jack, Spike, Big Mac, Pinkie Pie, and Trixie. They all landed safely in his arms. All laughing, all giggling. Every pony was having a great time. Taking turns at being tossed into the air. At this point, the Galla changed moods. No pony was dancing as they cleared space for Discord. Most of the ponies just sat or waited for their turn to be tossed into the air. "How about you Fluttershy? I won't toss you as high or as hard. I promise." Discord said, crossing his heart. "Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." Pinkie pie then turned and gave him a glare that sent shivers down his spine. He didn't know what happened when you broke a pinkie promise and he didn't want to know. All he knew for sure is that it was bad. "Oh ...uh I dunno Discord... that seems scary..." Fluttershy said, hiding behind her main. She still did that from time to time but it was becoming rare. She had grown so much over the years since their last battle. Discord found that unfortunate because he thought it was rather cute when she did that. "Trust me. I won't toss you as high or as hard I know you'll have fun." He said picking her up in his arms gently, casting the usual spell. He did it just in case but he knew he wouldn't need it. She wouldn't be going much of anywhere. "Oh ..uh.." Fluttershy said but before she could answer. Discord tossed her up. She didn't spin. She didn't even go past his head. She didn't even go fast. Discord had slowed time for her. It took a lot of his power and he was pretty exhausted from all the tossing, but it was worth it to see Fluttershy have as much fun as every pony else. "See. Fun isn't it?" He said as he tossed her a few more times. He wanted to make sure she still got an appropriate amount of time. Just as much time as every pony else got. He didn't want her to feel excluded from the fun that was happening tonight. "This is fun. Thank you Discord," she said smiling and giggling. Discorded turned his head and noticed that her friends' concerned faces turned to smiles. He was glad he could help Fluttershy have fun. In her own way. Discord put her down and turned himself to Twilight "how about you sparkle butt?" Twilight rolled her eyes at him. She really hated that nickname. "no thanks." She really wasn't enthusiastic about being tossed into the air by Discord. "Come on even Fluttershy took a turn. The only one who didn't was Rarity. You are such a party pooper." Discord said making mocking faces at her. "you can join rarity in the 'I'm a party pooper circle'." He said making confetti appear. "HEY, I HEARD THAT." Rarity said as a sash appeared around her. 'I am a party pooper' it read. She humphed. Discord and his friends laughed. Twilight scowled at him. "Fine, I'll do it. But don't go as hard as rainbow or Starlight," she said nervously. She wasn't sure she wanted to do this but every pony was staring at her. She was starting to feel the pressure. If she didn't do this it might say to Discord 'hey I don't trust you' which she didn't really. But he had caught every pony else and if they liked it. It couldn't be so bad. "As you wish." He said as he gathered her in his arms. His heartbeat beating hard from all the exercise and the time slow spell he had cast for Fluttershy. It was irregular. It has always been like that, it was never loud enough for twilight to notice. Discord had a heart murmur? She'd have to ask about it later. It didn't make sense for Discord to live with such an irregular heartbeat but then again it was Discord so I guess it made sense it didn't make sense. Maybe later she could perform some experiments and ask some questions about his biology. Could she write a paper about all this? She didn't think any pony else had before she could be the first. She could win a Ponylitzer Prize. It wouldn't be her first one but she would be the first pony in Ponyville to have three. Discord cast the same spell he did on every pony else. He didn't notice that she was so unfocused and he tossed her right into the air much slower. She spun not as fast as Rainbow or Starlight. "Ahhhh." She said as she panicked. Twilight had been so lost in thought she forgot what was happening. She used her magic without thinking and poofed away from Discord. and toward a wall. Her friends screamed. The gala ponies turned away from chatting to look Discords' way. They all gasped as they saw twilight hurl for the wall. Twilight had expected to hit the wall. She couldn't open her wings due to Discords' spell. That is where she was heading, it was the only logical conclusion. She felt guilty about panicking, everything turned out fine for every pony else. Had she remained calm it could have been fine for her too, but now she was gonna impact the wall. Wait? When did the wall get fuzzy? And so warm? For a moment she was confused. She heard a familiar irregular heartbeat below her. She knew then that it was Discord, he had caught her. “Wh-what” Twilight said as she looked up at Discord. “Scardy-pony” said Discord as he chuckled. The gala ponies joined him. Other than Twilight's pride no pony had been hurt. She had been safely teleported right back to Discord, he made extra sure she was alright. This gala would definitely be remembered.
