> Night Company > by Twilight Star > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Unexpected visit > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight Sparkle was on the balcony with a telescope, sketchbook, books and papers. She was making drawings of constellations in the sky and writing down the information she found in books on paper. The unicorn has been studying astronomy since she entered Princess Celestia’s Gifted Unicorn School. Unfortunately, astronomy wasn’t in the curricular subjects at Celestia’s school. Although Twilight Sparkle was saddened by it, Celestia had explained to her that the reason for not having this content was because she wasn’t an expert in it. So Twilight Sparkle had to turn around and learn astronomy alone at home, but Celestia helped her by making a list of books that talked about the night sky so that the unicorn could have it.  When Twilight finished drawing, she placed her two hooves on the balcony while admiring the night sky. The night has always been her favorite period because she can study the stars. The advantage of Twilight being in Ponyville was that the stars were more visible than in Canterlot, but that didn’t mean she didn’t like seeing the stars there.  The unicorn heard footsteps, she looked back and saw Spike. “Hey Twilight, how’s your stargazing session?”  Twilight Sparkle smiled. “Hey Spike, it’s fine. I’ve even done some constellation drawings,” she took her sketchbook with her magic and showed it to Spike.  Spike noticed that Twilight Sparkle drew the constellation of the Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, Cancer, Capricorn and archer. “They look beautiful, Twilight.”  “Thanks Spike, would you like to keep me company here?” asked Twilight Sparkle.  “Sure, Twilight. Do you want me to make food so we can eat here?” asked Spike.  “Sure, Spike. Could you make chocolate chip cookies, please?”  “Yes, Twilight.” Spike left the balcony and went downstairs to the kitchen.  Twilight Sparkle returned to look at the night sky, tonight was very starry and had enough stars. Twilight started thinking about Princess Luna. Since she helped Princess Luna on her first Nightmare Night, Twilight Sparkle and Luna began to develop feelings for each other because of the two having so much fun. When Nightmare Night ended, Twilight Sparkle had invited the princess to spend the night with her in the library, Luna accepted because she had no real duties. It was on that night that Twilight Sparkle confessed to Luna what she felt and asked if she wanted to be her marefriend, and Luna said she felt the same and accepted. She started to wonder what Luna was doing now.  Suddenly, Twilight Sparkle heard a burp. Her ears perked up and she left the balcony and went down to where Spike was very fast. “Spike! Are you okay?”  Spike was on his back and picked up a scroll from the floor. “Yes, Twilight,” Spike turned to Twilight Sparkle. “It’s just that this scroll was sent.”  Twilight Sparkle perked up. Was it a letter from Princess Celestia? “Could you read it for me?”  Spike opened the parchment, coughed a little before starting to read. “Dear Spike ...” Twilight and Spike were surprised. Although Spike was surprised, he continued. “... I don’t know if you can now, but if you’re not busy and you’re not sleeping, could you come to Canterlot to keep me company? In case you can’t come, I will understand. Signed Princess Celestia.” Spike started to blush. Did Celestia want him to go to Canterlot for company?  “Spike, why are you blushed?” asked Twilight Sparkle, confused.  Spike placed the letter behind him while looking at Twilight Sparkle nervously. “Well... is that... is that...”  Twilight Sparkle waited patiently for the answer. She didn’t understand anything. Why was Spike blushed? Was it a fever? Twilight put a hoof on Spike’s forehead to see if he had a fever, but his forehead wasn’t hot. Twilight Sparkle started to think until she realized. No. It couldn’t be that ... but what if it is? She looked at Spike. “Spike, are you by any chance dating the princess?”  Spike looked away, now very nervous, he started to sweat. “No…. perhaps…?”  Twilight didn’t know how to feel about it. “But I always thought Rarity was your passion.”  Spike was no longer so nervous and sweating, but he was still blushed. “Well Twilight, Rarity was the one I was in love with im.”  “Did you give up on winning her heart?” asked Twilight Sparkle.  “Unfortunately yes,” said Spike. Twilight Sparkle was concerned. “What happened between you two? You fought?”  “What? No, Twilight.”  “Then why did you give up?” asked Twilight Sparkle, now less nervous.  “Twilight, do you remember when I had to go to Canterlot to do real business?” began Spike.  “Yes, Spike.”  Spike started to sweat. “Well ... let’s say that the real business that I had to do involved me spending time with Princess Celestia...?”  Twilight Sparkle didn’t know how to feel about that. “But... why did you never tell me that you and the princess were dating?”  Spike swallowed. “It’s just… I was afraid that you wouldn’t approve of my relationship with Princess Celestia… since you’ve been taking care of me all my life and that Celestia is like a mother to you, I thought you would be mad at me and you would throw me out the library.”  Twilight Sparkle smiled. “Spike, I may have been surprised by the revelation, but I would never stop loving you and would never throw you out of the library.”  Spike smiled a little. “Really?”  “Really.” Twilight Sparkle and Spike shared a hug.  When they left the embrace, Spike looked at Twilight Sparkle. “Twilight, I’m going to Canterlot. Can you be okay alone?”  “Spike, if the princess needs you, I won’t stop you,” said Twilight Sparkle.  Spike gave Twilight a hug before opening the door. “Thanks, Twilight.”  “You’re welcome, Spike.” Spike closed the door.  Twilight Sparkle returned to the balcony to continue what she was doing, but stopped when she realized that Spike didn’t make the cookies. Twilight Sparkle gave a facehoof because she didn’t remember Spike making the cookies. She went to the kitchen to make the cookies herself.    Celestia was in her room, waiting for Spike. She wondered if Spike would come or not. Should she send Spike a letter to find out if he was coming? Celestia started to walk around the room, worried. Has he arrived yet? Would he come? “Come on, Celestia. Don’t be nervous for nothing. Of course, Spike will come to see you. He wouldn’t reject an invitation, would he? Right?”  Somepony knocked on the door. Celestia looked at the door. “Go in!” the door opened to reveal a royal guard.  “Princess, Spike is here,” said the royal guard.  “Thanks for letting me know. Could you bring him to my room?” asked Celestia.  The guard bowed. “Yes, princess,” the guard closed the door.  Celestia sat on the bed to wait for the baby dragon. She started to think about Luna. Luna had asked her if she could go to Ponyville for the night, Celestia had already left since Luna was dating Twilight Sparkle, but she had said that the princess of the night couldn’t forget to lower the moon when the day came. Luna had promised her that she wouldn’t forget.  The door opened, revealing Spike. Celestia went to Spike. “Spike! You could come!”  Spike approached Celestia. “Of course I could come,” Spike hugged Celestia with his paws and Celestia with her wings.    When Twilight Sparkle finished making the cookies, she put them on a plate and went to the balcony. Twilight Sparkle realized that the balcony was messy, had papers for every corner. The unicorn took the papers, mounted them in a pile and placed them on its left side, closed the sketchbook and placed it on the right side.  Twilight Sparkle took a Cookie with her magic and bit it while looking at the night sky. Twilight couldn’t help but deny that she was feeling alone. She had her owl, but she wanted other than Owlowiscious to keep her company, as Spike had to go to Canterlot.  The unicorn saw something from the sky approaching her. Twilight Sparkle didn’t know what it was. The thing was tall, it had wings and a horn. But when it got really close and landed on the balcony, Twilight recognized who it was and smiled happily. “Princess Luna!”  Luna smiled as she and Twilight Sparkle shared a hug. “Princess Luna, what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be protecting ponies from nightmares?”  Luna and Twilight Sparkle came out of the embrace. “Love, I checked in the Dream World and there was no one suffering any nightmare. And since I didn’t need to protect anyone from nightmares today, at least for a while, I thought about coming to visit you that night.”  Luna looked on the balcony and saw papers, books and a sketchbook on the floor. “Twilight, why do you have papers, books and a sketchbook on the balcony?”  “I was studying astronomy, Luna,” replied Twilight Sparkle.  Luna looked surprised and happy at the same time. “Do you study astronomy?”  “Yes. Since I was a filly.”  “Did my sister teach you astronomy?” asked Luna, with a hopeful smile.  “No, Luna.”  Luna was confused. “But why not?”  “Princesa Celestia told me that she wasn’t an astronomy expert, but she made a list of books that talked about the night sky and then I had to get by on my own,” Luna was a little sad. Twilight Sparkle took the plate of Cookies and offered it to Luna. “Cookies?”  “Sure.” Luna took a cookie with her magic and started eating.    “So, Spike? How are things in Ponyville?” asked Celestia, now lying in bed with Spike by her side.  “They are doing well, Princess Celestia,” replied Spike. “During the nights, Twilight Sparkle spends most of the night reading, but what she does most is watching the stars and studying astronomy. How about you? How are the things?”  “They’re doing well, too, Spike,” replied Celestia. “Luna spends most of her time thinking about Twilight.”  Spike was curious. “What’s Princess Luna thinks about Twilight?”  “Luna keeps thinking about how happy she feels around Twilight, about how much Twilight means to her, she also thinks about meeting places, she also keeps reading the letters that Twilight sends to me and keeps thinking about what Twilight could be doing at the moment,” replied Celestia. “Sometimes, Luna even invites Twilight Sparkle to sleep with her at the castle. My student always accepts, because she doesn’t want to make Luna sad.”  “Luna really loves Twilight,” said Spike, with a paw on his chin.  “Yes Spike, Luna told me that since her first Nightmare Night, she has developed feelings for my student.”  “When did Luna tell you?” asked Spike.  “When I realized that Luna was happier than usual, because as she stayed up all night protecting the ponies from nightmares, it made her very tired and sulky,” said Celestia.  Spike yawned as he placed his paw close to his mouth. “Are you sleepy, Spike?”  Spike looked at Celestia sleepily. “N-no, Princess Celestia... I think I can stay awake for a while longer,” but the dragon’s efforts didn’t help and he fell asleep.  Celestia smiled, covered Spike with a wing and kissed her good night. “Good night, my sweet dragon,” that said, she also closed her eyes and slept.    Twilight Sparkle and Luna had already finished eating the Cookies, now they were sitting on the balcony watching the stars. Twilight Sparkle was sitting and leaning next to Luna while the alicorn hugged her with a wing. Luna watched the night sky with a smile. “So Twilight, what you been doing?”  But Twilight Sparkle didn’t respond back. Luna was concerned. “Love?” Luna looked at Twilight and saw the unicorn snoring.  Smiling, Luna took her marefriend with her magic, entered the room, placed it on the left side of the bed and covered it. She watched Twilight Sparkle sleep. Luna looked at the watch and saw that it was one o’clock in the morning. The princess of the night smiled as she looked at the unicorn again, she liked the fact that Twilight Sparkle stayed awake to see the stars. Luna felt like sleeping with Twilight, but the princess feared that her marefriend wouldn’t like the idea of Luna sleeping next to her. But Luna started to remember when she invited Twilight Sparkle to sleep in the castle for the first time, she had told Twilight Sparkle to sleep in bed with her, and Twilight accepted, although the beginning seemed uncertain. Luna walked to the right side of the bed, uncovered the blanket a little, lay down and hugged Twilight Sparkle with her hooves before going to sleep.
