> Single Awareness Day > by Forever Fangirl MLP > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Miss Rarity > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rarity opened her window, letting a ray of sunshine fill the otherwise dark room. She rubbed her eyes sleepily, and blinked slowly so that her eyes would adjust to the sudden brightness of her room. Once her eyes could finally focus, she peeked out of the window at the scenery of the morning below. It was a sunny February morning, a chill filled the outside air, but  the glorious sunshine made up for the somewhat cool weather. Ponies littered the streets. Selling fruits and other products from stands, talking with their friends, or hurrying to reach the School of Friendship. Some of them wore scarves or hats to protect their coats from the cold climate, others simply were so used to the Ponyville weather they simply wore a small sweater or cloak.     A small smile etched across Rarity’s face.  She had missed Ponyville. After all, she had just spent a month in Canterlot, before that she had spent two in Yakyakistan, before that she had spent three weeks in Manehattan and before that about eight days in Winnieapolis and another three days in Las Pegasus... she traced back as far as she could remember but still could barely remember how long it had been since she had been able to come home. The fashion industry had a risk after all, that risk being she had to devote most of her time to her business.       Wherever there was a lot of customers and profit, that was where she was. And with her new line for Yaks being very successful, She became very invested in winter wear. Causing her to open a boutique in Winnieapolis, which happened to be very cold this time of year, but this was no time to be encountering her business, but to be enjoying her vacation back home.  She quickly threw her sparkly, navy blue cloak on, ran a brush through her mane, and applied her usual sky blue eye shadow that complimented her darker blue eyes. She trotted outside rather quickly and locked the door to Carousel Boutique behind her, not even bothering to put up the ’closed’ sign on the door. She wanted to meet up with all of her friends that day, and then go to the spa by herself afterwards. As the old saying goes, ‘the older you get the faster time passes’, and this was very much true in her case. She wanted to get as much done as possible, as she didn’t know when she’d be called back to one of her various Boutiques scattered all across the world.  She headed down the cobblestone road to hopefully find some of her friends. “And who better to start off my vacation, than with a meet up with Pinkie Pie,” She announced  to herself as she Continued to trot down the pathway, taking a sudden turn toward Sugar Cube Corner. With a large smile on her face she knocked on the door before opening it slightly.  She wished she hadn’t. A large flood of pink frosting  and cake batter cake came rushing towards, forcing itself through the cracked open door thrusting it open. The wave completely soaks Rarity’s cloak and ruins her perfect mane.  Pinkie Pie bounced out of the door, more icing than pony, with Lil’ Cheese sitting on her back.  “OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH!!! RARITY!!!!!” The cake covered, earth pony screeched before wrapping her hooves around the sophisticated unicorn and holding her in one of Pinkie’s usual hugs.  “Uh hi, Pinkie”  she responded in a fake cheery tone.  “I came by to say hello, but I can see that you happen to be-“  Rarity looked at her coat which was now more pink with frosting than its usual white.  “Covered in cake...” She said in a tone of suspicion.  “Yeah!!! Me and Cheese are making a cake!” She said joyously.  “Ponies this time of year all want to buy Hearts and Hooves Cake for their Special Somepony’s, and we thought that instead of making ALL of that cake over time, we could make it all at once!” Pinkie lifted Lil’ Cheese off her back, and shook herself back in forth like a dog, suddenly all of the frosting and cake was gone. Rarity didn’t even bother asking how, because she had simply gotten used to the idea of Pinkie breaking the laws of Physics.  Pinkie looked over at her still cake covered friend.  “Well, I guess you could say that idea didn’t REALLY work out all that well...”  Rarity laughed at her friend's antics. Despite being covered in food, and having her entire appearance being ruined, it was all worth it to see her friend make her smile.  Despite this she realized that she was keeping her friend away from her duties, and more importantly her family. “Well Pinkie, I don’t want to keep you away from your prior engagements, so I’ll leave you to them, and hopefully I can see you later?” “Oh of course Rarity, I’m sorry about your outfit, and I still need to fix ...this” Pinkie pointed her hoof to the mess of a place Sugar Cube Corner was.  “But I do REALLY want to hang out with you, so maybe later today?” Rarity nodded.  Although she did want to spend the night at the spa, she could always invite Pinkie to come with her, And overall she much rather spend time with her friend.  However, she continued on her way. Next destination, Sweet Apple Acres. As she walked she tried her best to take in the small town feeling she had yearned for, for so long. The sound on tree branches rustling and dirt beneath her hooves was a feeling that couldn’t be felt in Canterlot, Yakyakistan, or anyplace else for that matter. She continued to walk, taking in the simple sights that surrounded her, until she heard the familiar voices of Apple Bloom and her nephew; Sugar Belle and Big Mac’s son. Apple Bloom had a small dragonfly toy, which she moved into between her hooves and let go, to make it fly. The small colt that sat next to her was mesmerized by the sight of it.  Rarity didn’t want to intrude on their fun, but she had to ask. “Apple Bloom, darling is your sister here by any chance?” Apple Bloom looked up from her nephew, and over at the white unicorn. “Miss Rarity! Why I’ll be darned! Ah don’t think I’ve seen ya in forever!”  She stood up and hugged her friend.  “Oh, and to answer your question, Apple Jack ain’t here, she’s off at RD’s Wonderbolt practice.” “O-oh...”  Rarity replied, hiding her disappointment.  “Well, it is very sweet of her to want to support her new wife,” Rarity added.  Apple Jack and Rainbow Dash had been wedded only about seven months prior.   “I’ll tell her you came by, I'm sure she’ll be real happy to see ya” “Thank you Apple Bloom, and could you also please tell Rainbow Dash as well, I would like to see her as well.” “Will do Miss Rarity!”  Apple Bloom said waving to Rarity, who had started her way down the dirt path. Miss Rarity... she thought to herself. For some reason the title hurt her. She didn’t know exactly why but it did. All her other friends were called Mrs. Apple Jack, Mrs. Dash, Or Mrs. Pie or Mrs. Shy; even Twilight was referred to as Princess Twilight Sparkle Sentry now. But Rarity continued to only ever be called Miss or Ms. And it hurt. > Table for one please! > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rarity continued on her way, hoping to find at least one of her friends that weren’t busy with their significant other. She had already been to Pinkie’s, and Apple Jack’s and she didn’t have to check Rainbow Dash’s since she and Applejack we’re together. She didn’t have to check Twilight because, well she lived in Canterlot, And she didn't have to check herself because, well she knew she was free. That meant there was only one pony left.      And it was a short trip, since both AJ and Fluttershy lived in adjacent Ponyville. She walked her way up the forested path, making sure not to get her hooves covered in any sort of muck or dirt. Once she finally reached the small vine covered cottage, she knocked gently on the old wooden door. Hoping that for once, one of her friends would be home, and able to spend some time with her. She waited at the front porch, and waited. Until suddenly the door opened with a sudden slam, and a small pegasus like creature flew out of the door at the speed of light.  The filly, as it turned out to be, hovered best to Rarity, a large, smile plastered across her face. She had the body type of a pony, that was for sure, she had a pink mane which faded from being very dark, to very light. She had a light tan coat, two griffon claws as well as a light tan wing, she had large mint green eyes, and well that was everything pony about her... She had a very small set of mismatched horns, and one dark blue bag wing. She had two eagle claws, and a long,  snake-like tale, with a tuft of pink hair at the end, and by far her most notable feature; red, diamond like pupils in the center of her bright, pale green eyes.  Recognizing the peculiar foal, she reacted immediately. "Oh My,darling, how have you been?" Despite the filly only being a year or two old, Rarity talked to her as she would any adult, as she believed that young , impressionable minds shouldn't be looked down upon, and that children shouldn't be trying to reach up.  "I was good, miss wawity" the young filly said with a strong lisp.   "Is that so, well I'm glad, for I too have been good as well." Rarity added to the young foal, realizing just how good she was at talking to foals, despite having none of her own.  Suddenly Fluttershy came rushing out of the cottage door, flying over to the young foal, and wrapping her hooves around the child in a loving embrace. Fluttershy was the foal's mother, and considering the foal's appearance it wasn't much of a stretch to know that Discord was the filly's father. The two had been married for a year, but had decided that they wanted foals a few years before, hence their daughter Disarray was born, although the two year old filly more commonly known as simply; Ary.  "Oh Ary sweetie, you shouldn't do that, you could hurt yourself, or someone else or..or...-well don't do... whatever it was that you did." Fluttershy looked up from her filly and to the mare standing next to her “Oh, hello Rarity!” She said joyously “I don’t believe I’ve even seen you since the last council meeting” Rarity laughed nervously and remarked “ah, well there has been so much going on in the fashion business lately, I’ve been ever so stressed and was just lucky enough to be able to take a small vacation in Ponyville” “I’m sorry to hear that you’re stressed, do you want to talk about it?” Fluttershy calmly responded. Rarity simply nodded. The three walked inside the cottage, Ary flew off and Rarity and Fluttershy sat down on Fluttershy’s couch. As soon as they knew they were alone, Rarity faked fainting on the couch, placing her hoof over her eyes and sobbing, her mascara ran down her face. “IT’S THE WORST POSSIBLE THING!” she screamed.  Fluttershy stared blankly at the over dramatic pony before her and simply grumbled under her breath, “you’d think she’d be less dramatic as she got older...”  The white unicorn, whose face was now a mess of mascara smudges, opened up on her feelings, “I have so many boutiques that I always have to be at, and I never have anytime to myself anymore, and I really wish I did, because then I could spend more time with all my friends, but Pinkie’s always busy with her family, Apple Jack is always with Rainbow now, and vise versa, And Twilight’s always in Canterlot, plus she’s married now too, and whenever she’s not doing her duties she spending time with him, and even you! You make time for me, as you are doing right now, but you have a family too, you’re married, you even have a daughter, so what am I doing with my life! I’m so busy with work, I have no future, I’m too late in my life to get a coltfriend, but I want to have a family too...” Rarity sniffed, as Fluttershy simply looked over at her friend and smiled, “Rarity, yes we’re always busy with our families now, but we too, are jealous we don’t have a huge, famous company that has spread across the world, we wish every creature would know us as entrepreneurs, and that we would have the glory of being renowned for our aspirations, but as you know, owing a huge company takes a lot of commitment and almost all of your time, that’s what it’s like having a family, once you commit yourself to a relationship or a child, or anything like that, that becomes your life above all else, and although it seems like the greatest joy in the world, it’s a lot of work too, and requires a sacrifice of your time, you of all ponies understand that,” Rarity wiped her tears, smudging mascara all over her hoof as she did. Fluttershy reaches out to grab a picture of her, Discord and Ary. “And remember you can make a family out of anyone, It’s never too late to find that somepony that makes your life complete,” Rarity nodded, half listening to her friend's advice, knowing Fluttershy was done with her ‘speech’ she dashed to her friend’s kitchen sink, to wash off the mascara from her hooves and face. Once she was almost completely soaked with water, and the black eye makeup was nowhere to be seen, she joined her friend once again.  “So, if you're not busy, would you be interested in going to dinner with me tonight, I’ve already asked to meet up with AppleJack, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie this evening, and I believe a dinner would be a great way to talk to each other once again” Rarity added. “That sounds like a wonderful idea, And, I’m pretty sure Twilight is free tonight as well, since there usually isn’t any meetings, signings, boards or anything princessey on Friday nights,” Fluttershy responded. “In fact, I could probably just invite everyone, if that’s easier for you,” she added. “That would be wonderful!” Rarity exclaimed. “How about we meet at  eight ‘o clock, that way Ary, and Lil Cheese are asleep so you won’t have to worry about them,'' Rarity asked. “Sure thing, Rarity, we’ll see you then!” Rarity waved goodbye to her friend before leaving the cottage and making her way to Ponyville once again. It was eight thirty at night. Rarity sat at an empty table with five other chairs, No one had shown up, not even Fluttershy. She sat alone, coming to the realization that her friends weren’t coming. Tears started to form within her eyes, Why would they stand me up? she thought. Well, that makes it sound like a date...I’m sure they left so they would go on dates with their significant others and they left me here, because-  Her thoughts were interrupted by a waitress coming up to her. “Hello Miss, what can I get for you?” Another pony calling me ‘Miss’ why can’t I just have a somepony to love? she thought to herself before responding, “I’ll just get a salad,” she said in her most joyous tone, for a pony who was just betrayed by her best friends. “Ok miss, your order will be up in a minute!” Rarity didn’t listen, she was too busy staring at the ceiling, feeling like she didn’t belong, time seemed to stop, and she seemed to lose herself, letting her mind ponder over her friends motives, as well as her own course of action. She didn’t even notice when her salad arrived, she simply just stabbed her fork through the spinach leaves, too upset to even eat. After a while she did eat a few of the tomatoes, and even some of the spinach, but she still left most of her food untouched.  After about a half an hour or so, the waitress came with her bill. Suddenly Rarity remembered why she hadn’t eaten at the particular restaurant for years. The waitress had came back to collect to bill, Rarity, used her magic to grab the money, and she was about to hand it to her when- An earth pony with a dark tan coat, and a dark brown mane with light green accents dumped a pile of bits on the table. “I’ll be covering for her tonight, Miss” he said to the waitress.  “Why thank you sir, that was very generous of you,” Rarity responded. “You betcha ma’am, I noticed you were sitting at a table with more than one chair, and I assumed you probably got stood up, and right before Hearts and Hooves day too!” The pony said with a thick Winneapolis accent.  Rarity wanted to correct him on the fact that she wasn’t going on a date, but he wasn’t completely wrong, her friends did leave her there, so she left it at that. And then an idea struck her. “You single?” She asked. “Yes ma’am” he responded. “Well let’s fix that, Tomorrow, we meet her six ‘o clock, it’s a date,” she replied “A date?”  “A date.” > A Date with Fate > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rarity stood outside of the restaurant from the night before, a winter breeze passed by, and Rarity clutched her cloak closer to her coat. She had asked a stallion out on a date, and what had that brought her, only nerves of what to come. Suddenly a silhouette of a tall, stallion like stature trotted over to the restaurant, until the silhouette was in view just enough for Rarity to see the stallion from the night before. It was at that moment Rarity realized she didn’t even know the stallion’s name, much less who he was. In fact she had no evidence that he might be dangerous or not, and even if she didn't trust him, she trusted herself to handle any sort of problem she'd get into. The stallion had reached the point at which Rarity was standing. She was wearing a cape similar to the night before, only this time red, with more sparkles and instead of simply the trim on the neck of the cape, she wore a long feather boa. Their stallion immediately recognized her and asked, "Are you the mare from last night?"  “Yes, that would be me; Rarity” she offered her hoof to shake, he shook it responding with his own name, “-Leaf, Leaf Oakland” he led her into the restaurant and the two were seated at a table for two. Rarity, almost immediately started inquiring about the stallions interests, job, personality, and family. "So, what's your occupation?" She asked as can casually as she could. He continued to answer with a rant about the wildlife preserves he was involved in, and how they're team continued to preserve the wildlife in the area. “You see the trees planted within the area were grown so that a specific raccoon would migrate back to the area, you see they've been critically endangered for many years now, and my team wants to restore them to their natural well being...” “Oh, well that's interesting” Rarity would add, also trying to emerge her own interests. "You see, I do a lot of work with animals, studying their fur and whatnot, so that I can make replicas, for fur coats." She stifled a laugh, " cause I'm a fashion-" "have you actually ever even heard about the endangered fox species that lives in one of our forests? He would interrupt her, it seemed to be an ongoing cycle of rarity saying something, only to be stopped by Leaf, and he would continue. The only time he was quiet was when their food came. Even then, he still managed to make remarks even while there was still food in his mouth,Which Rarity found utterly disgusting.  She began to realize that although a gentle pony, He seemed to be more of AppleJack's type, that is if she wasn't already married to Rainbow Dash.  It was sad, Rarity had so much hope for the stallion, he seemed so perfect the night before, but even after a night his true colors showed, and the two just went meant to be together. i could try again though... she thought to herself as she walked back to her house.  I just haven't found the right kind of guy yet, no matter, their is always more fish in the sea. I suppose what I really need, is a prince... By this time her thoughts cleared and she was left with blank silence bouncing around inside her head, interrupted, not by a flood of Forest information, but by the sound of loud hoof steps behind her. She sensed a chill through her spine, her fur stood up on her neck, but it wasn’t from fear. Instead, from the recognition she could feel from the hoof steps. She slowly turned around to see if her suspicions were correct. A stallion stood in the completely empty streets, the faint gloss of fog surrounded them in the dark, cold city. She felt a lump in her throat as the stallion threw the hood of his cloak off, his face was all too recognizable to Rarity. He had long flowing golden blonde hair, and a coat as bright white as Luna’s moon. His cheesy smile was of course the most distinct thing about him. Rarity stood awestruck before whispering under her breath, “Prince Blueblood” She knew, based on countless times he was a jerk, that he was not perfect for her, that she should just leave now not even bothering to try to date him, or make things up between them. He probably didn’t remember her anyways. After all, The prince met beautiful mares every day, what chance was there that he’d remember her, or the times he was unfair to her. “I should have just left,” she whispered. And began to turn the corner once again. “Rarity?” He called out to the mare. She flinched and turned to face him. “Blueblood.” She quietly spoke, in a rude, passive aggressive tone. “Why are you in Ponyville?” “Royal business, I saw you dining with someone else at the Ponyville restaurant” He said, changing the subject.  “I’m allowed to dine with whomever I want to, and how do YOU even remember ME.” She replied saltily at the royal unicorn in front of her. He hesitated before responding, “I assumed you’d miss me, you seem as though you’ve moved on,” “I have indeed moved on...” she mumbled. “Why are you here, what do you want with me, I know you don’t love me, so what is it you want here?” Despite her quiet tone of voice, Blueblood heard and responded, “I told you royal business,” “But I would like to offer you a chance, I know of my actions in the past, but I assure you I am a changed stallion, please accept my offer of gratitude when I ask you to join me for a-“ Rarity finished his sentence. “-a date?” Blueblood nooded. I’ve already learned not to trust him, but he does say he’s changed, and I have to give him that. Besides, Hearts and Hooves tomorrow, and I want to make it perfect, this year I actually want to have a special somepony. “Alright, Blueblood, if you so wish as to go on a date with me, I accept.” He took his hoof on his own and he walked with her to a large clearing of trees, where the winter moon showed bright throughout the dim sky. He sat on the grass, and motioned for Rarity to sit with him. “It’s not much of a date, per say, but it is something, and something seems better than nothing,”  The two sat silently staring into the bright moonlight. Rarity took the time to contemplate her feelings, He is handsome but has his personality changed enough? He definitely doesn’t seem like the old Blueblood. Maybe I should just give Leaf Oakland another chance...Still, why him? Why me? “I know your answer simply will be Royal business, but I’m still going to ask you anyways,” She sighed before continuing. “Why are you here?” Without looking away from the stars, Blueblood responded. “I’m here because you don’t think that your good enough being single, you think you need to rush into a relationship right before Hearts and Hooves Day, so that’s why I’m here, so you don’t have to suffer through ‘Single Awareness Day’ “ She immediately turned to face him, she stared deep into his eyes, as the pony faded from existence, in a magenta glow. Rarity watched the stallion disappear before her very eyes, in dumbfounded amazement. As she watched she whispered to herself the words that Fluttershy had said to her only a day before, “And remember you can make a family out of anyone, It’s never too late to find that somepony that makes your life complete,” That family was her friends, her business, and the happiness she could bring to creatures worldwide. She didn’t have to rush into a relationship to have a family of her own, she already had one waiting for her. Twilight, and the rest of the Mane Six , we’re standing behind a grove of trees near the grassy clearing, Twilight had her horn lit up, creating a hologram of Prince BlueBlood, it was Fluttershy’s idea, but Twilight executed the plan, and Pinkie, AppleJack and RD supervised. They wanted Rarity to have the Best Hearts and Hooves day she possibly could, and it started here.
