A full year has past since Princess Luna gave birth to her daughters. But she had started to feel that her little family might be incomplete. Hopefully, she can the answer in Ponyville again.
Early one evening, Princess Luna awoke to the sound of her three daughters crying. It had been year since the night princess became a mother thanks to the Cutie Mark Crusaders. However, Luna had felt that her family was incomplete. Luna had gotten this feeling about a month and a half ago. The feeling had only grew with each passing day. It did remind the night princess how she felt back when Luna first wanted children. Perhaps, Luna was getting a similar feeling now. Once Nebula, Star Shower and Aurora had settled down and the moon was in the sky, Luna made her way to the dinning hall.
"Hello, Luna. How are you?" asked Celestia as her little sister walked in carrying the fillies.
"I'm good, sister. Just had an unexpected wake up call." replied Luna playfully smiling at her daughters.
Celestia let out a small chuckle at that before saying "By the way Luna, I got a letter from Twilight. She wants to know if you want to visit Ponyville for Nightmare Night."
A small shiver of fear ran down Luna's back. She hadn't been back to the town since her baby shower.
"I don't know Tia. I was thinking about it, but the kids have kept me quite busy." replied the younger alicorn.
Celestia suspected that there was something that her sister wasn't telling her. But felt it would be better not to press the subject. Feeling sleep calling to her once again, Celestia began to make her way to her chambers.
"Well, at the least, think about it some more before deciding. Nightmare Night is still sometime away. Good night, Luna."
"Yes. Good night. Sleep well sister." Said the moon princess.
As the doors to the dining hall closed, Luna mulled over what Celestia said about visiting Ponyville. Perhaps, she could find the answer to her current quandary in the town. With that thought in mind, Luna decided to go.
As Nightmare Night drew closer, Luna was finishing preparing for visit to Ponyville. The night princess had asked her niece, Princess Cadence, to look after Nebula, Star Shower and, Aurora for few hours. The Princess of Love happily agreed to watch the fillies. In the meantime, Luna still could not shake the feeling that her family was incomplete. The best she could do was to talk with Celestia about the ordeal. Unfortunately, Celestia wasn't able help in this situation. All Celestia could suggest was to write a letter to Twilight Sparkle for a second opinion.
"Sorry I can't be more help." Said Celestia somewhat downtrodden.
"It's okay sister. You just being a listening ear is more than helpful." replied the night princess giving her sister a loving nuzzle.
As Luna walked back to her chambers to send Twilight that letter, she spotted a mother and her colt heading towards the thrown room. Something clicked inside the midnight blue princess's mind at the sight. The reason why Luna's family felt incomplete, was because she wanted a son. Luna continued to her room with renewed vigor, now that she knows why the feeling of wanting foals never fully left her. The only question remaining was, who was going to be her son? She did consider her nephew, Prince Blueblood, but ultimately rejected the idea. By the time she reached her room, Luna had decided to go with the young earth pony colt Pipsqueak. Luna remembered meeting the colt back in Ponyville, when she first wanted to reconnect with Equestria during that year's Nightmare Night. He had struck the princess, as a honest and trusting soul. Especially, when he had sent a letter with picture to her for a class assignment.
"Soon, my little ones. You'll have a little brother to play with" Said Luna softly to her daughters as to not wake them.
Luna slowly went to sleep, excited at prospect for having a son. All aspects of sending a letter have left her mind.
Nightmare Night soon arrived and Luna made her way to Ponyville for the festivities. When she just about to reach the town, Luna could see that some resident were already taking part in some games. It took another minute or so before Luna landed at her destination in front of the Nightmare Moon statue in the Everfree forest, the recreation of her descent into darkness unsettled Luna somewhat whenever she looked a statue, but knowing that young fillies and colts found joy through leaving candy for her alter ego made the whole idea more bearable. Luna stood in front of the statue for a few more minutes before heading into town. Upon entering Ponyville, Luna was warmly greeted a wished a Happy Nightmare Night.
"Princess Luna. Thanks so much for coming." Said Twilight Sparkle when she spotted the moon princess.
"Of course. I do apologize that I wasn't able visit Ponyville sooner." replies Luna.
"No need to apologize. You've been busy with your three daughters. By the way, where are they?"
"I left them with Cadence. She was willing to watch Nebula, Star Shower and Aurora for a few hours." answered the night princess.
The two princesses talked for a while as they went through town enjoying the sights. Twilight and Luna had just left Applejack's stall, when Luna noticed a small group fillies and colts with certain colt among them. The young ponies quickly spotted the ruler of the night and ran over to her. Joyfully, one of them asked Luna what had brought her to Ponyville. The moon princess responded with that she there because, at least in part, thanks to Princess Twilight Sparkle.
"She convinced me to just relax for a night, after being stuck the castle for so long." she concluded causing Twilight to blush slightly.
"In that case, do you want to join us for a while?" asked Pipsqueak hopefully.
"I would delighted to." replied Luna giving the colt a soft smile
After a quick hug by the colts and fillies, the group made their way to the next house. Luna and Twilight accompanied the fillies and colts for the several houses, before the night princess felt like is time to put her plan into motion. Feeling somewhat hungry, Luna suggested stopping by Sugar Cube Corner for a quick snack. The idea of something from the local bakery and confectionery, sound wonderful to the others. The other colts and fillies, along with Twilight, made their way towards the bakery. However, Princess Luna pulled Pipsqueak aside into a ally.
"Everything is just fine Pip. I just wanted to give you a very special treat is all." replied Luna.
"Really? What is it?" the young colt asked.
"It's a surprise. First, I need you to close your eyes so get it ready" Said the night princess.
Pipsqueak did as instructed and shut his eyes tight. Meanwhile, Luna lit her horn to cast the spell. In a flash of light that was hardly noticeable, Luna stood in the ally alone with the appearance of a six month pregnancy.
"Surprise, my little pony. Welcome to the family." Said Luna gently rubbing her belly.
The dark blue alicorn got soft kick as a response. Luna soon left the ally in order to not rise supposition. Upon reuniting with the others, Luna merely said that she thought she saw something in a nearby ally.
"It turn out to be my mind playing tricks on me, due to being hungry." she said as she took a mouth full of cupcake.
"I bet. you're eating for two after all" commented Twilight.
Luna merely smiled as she took another bite. Once everypony had finished their snack, the moon princess regretted to inform the fillies and colts, that she had to return to Canterlot. The young ponies tried to make her to stay, but to no avail. They only stopped when Twilight told them why Luna had to leave.The colts and fillies finally agreed, but were still cressfallen. Each one gave the ruler of the moon a sad hug goodbye before she left.
Several months after Luna visited Ponyville, the moon princess went about her normal routine. She did attended another baby shower at Sugar Cube Corner. Even still, Luna preformed her duties without fail. Including taking care of her daughters. Luna did struggle a bit due her pregnancy, but it wasn't as bad as last time. She chalked it up to carrying only one foal instead of three. As Luna approached her sixth month, the moon princess was debating on, weather or not to go on maternity leave early. She spoke to Celestia about the topic. But, the sun princess only said that it was her call. Luna finally decided to wait, until she was closer to her due date, before going on maternity leave. Ever since then, the moon princess made some arraignments for when she did go on leave. Luna somehow managed to finish all her preparations in record time and was able to spent some time with Celestia.
"And then Aurora let out a cry that shattered my chamber window." finished Luna.
"So that's why you got a replacement window. It would seem that your daughters still have some old habits from their previous life." Said Celestia.
"It would appear so." agreed Luna.
"I miss talking like this with you Luna." Said Celestia.
"Me too, sister. But, between raising three daughter with another one on the way, and my duties as night princess. I've just been busier than ever." replied the moon princess.
Celestia merely nodded and said that she understood. The two sisters talked until Celestia felt the day's events catch up with her. Luna bid her sister good night and went back to her own chambers to check up on Nebula, Star Shower and Aurora.
Time seemed to fly by for Princess Luna's second pregnancy. Before she knew it, Luna was in her final month and on maternity leave. Like last, Luna had asked Twilight to take over for her until she had the strength to return. The moon princess spent most of her time laying on her bed, occasionally rubbing her enlarged abdomen as her son softly moved within. As for Nebula, Star Shower and Aurora, Luna had set up a smaller play area in her room to keep eye on her daughters. Luna watched from her bed as Nebula, Star Shower and Aurora played with various toys, only stopping when they got hungry or when it was nap time. When Luna put her daughters down for a nap, she sings a soft lullaby.
"Come little children, I'll take thee away into a land of enchantment. Come little children the time's come to play here in my garden of shadows. Follow sweet children, I'll show thee the way through all the pain and the sorrows. Weep not poor children, for life is this way, murdering beauty and passions. Hush now dear children, it must be this way, too weary of life and deceptions. Rest now my children, for soon we'll be away, into the calm and the quiet. Come little children, I'll take thee away into a land of enchantment. Come little children, the time's come to play here in my garden of shadows."
The day soon arrived for Luna to give birth to her latest addition to her family. Much like his big sisters, Pipsqueak had taken on Luna's colorization, with little of his previous colors remaining. The alicorn colt's colors resembled several stars being formed, giving the lunar princess the idea of calling him Cosmo. Finally feeling like her family was completed, an exhausted Luna looked at her four children with a smile on her face. Luna uses the last of her energy to sing the lullaby once more to her kids, before falling asleep herself.
