Doggy As The Centre of Attention

View Online

Summer had begun three weeks ago and the sun continues to make the air warm, but fresh for the trees and gardens. Inside one of the homes in one of Canterlots Neighborhoods, there is one dog who is eager to go on the beach, along with a girl who loves to take care of animals.

“I am so happy that you're willing to take me to the beach!” Spike said, shaking his tail.

“I didn’t want to be alone to be on the most beautiful beach in the country.” Fluttershy said, sitting on the mattress with her swimsuit on. “I’m just disappointed that Twilight is in her basement, doing experiments for her own benefit.”

“Yeah, I know. When I asked her to bring out one of my favorite toys, she kept looking at her inventions. As if it's her toys that she can play with.” Spike said, whilst sitting down.

“You do know that it's her hobby right? It isn’t nice to say something like that to the one who’s keeping you.” Fluttershy said, being a little serious.

“I know I know. But I hope she’s happy she can spend her time here, while we head to the beach together.”

As much as Fluttershy would love to head to her destination right away, she wants to do one more thing. “How about we say goodbye before we leave?”

“Alright, sure.”

Fluttershy picked Spike up as they headed downstairs from Twilight’s bedroom. When they entered the basement, they saw so many chemicals on the counter under the windows. Twilight is on her computer doing research on her latest experiment.

“Twilight.” Fluttershy called nicely. “I’m gonna leave with Spike now.”

The bookworm didn’t pay any attention, due to her completely focusing on her project. “She just told you, she’s leaving...and taking me.” Spike added.

“I’ve heard her, I’m just working right now.” Twilight responded after getting up from her chair. “If you're going to say it’s a science assignment, it’s not.”

“Yeah, we know what you mean.” Fluttershy rolled her eyes while smiling.

“Now if you excuse me, I need to get something from my cabinet.” Twilight went past Fluttershy, which annoyed Spike a little.

“We only wanted a goodbye, not you being silent.” He said.

“You really need to be more patient Spike, the beach will be open all day.” As she opened her cabinet, she took out three different chemicals.

“What are you making anyway?”

“I’m making lavender.”

“Lavender?” Fluttershy wondered.

“It’s supposed to make you smell good, but instead of buying it, I decided to make it myself.” As she placed the chemicals on her table, she took out her working lavender perfume from it’s container. “I’ve heard lavenders are one of the best smelling plants, so if I add more chemicals involving love for an example, I’ll be the best smelling girl all summer long.”

When Spike looked at the finish process of Twilight’s perfume, it looked finished to him, although he liked the idea of adding more. “Twilight, is it okay that I-”

“No, you can’t. Just because it’s not for sale, doesn’t mean animals are allowed to use it.”

“But Twilight.”

“No buts Spike.”

Spike felt sad that he won’t be able to use Twilights perfume, since it’s off limits to him.

“Fluttershy, before you take him to the beach, can you help me with something?”

“What do you need?” Fluttershy asked.

“I need help to carry two heavy coolers filled with fresh water from the refrigerator. It’s for my perfume.”

“Okay.” Fluttershy placed Spike on the ground as she followed Twilight upstairs, leaving the puppy alone in the basement. Spike looked at Twilight’s perfume again, upset that his owner denied his request. All he ever wanted is to be in the center of attention in front of so many people. He turned around to the staircase where Twilight and Fluttershy are gone which gave him an idea.

“If I can keep this a secret from them,” He smirked while turning back to the perfume. “I’ll become the best smelling puppy on the beach in no time…” He made his way to one of the cabinets to take out a glass bottle. He hops on top of the table while looking at the perfume along with chemicals of love and admiration. “I’ll bet I’ll make my own style of perfume, that's even better than hers.”

He took the container and poured it in his bottle, halfway. “With a little love mix, I’ll bet nothing bad will happen.” He smiled while pouring the love chemicals into his bottle. Without a spoon, he put the cap on his bottle and shook it for ten seconds. The pink and purple liquids combined into a magenta color which made the puppy excited. The only goal left is to keep it away from Twilight and Fluttershy so he won’t get caught.

Instead of heading outside the front door, he came out of the basement window with his magenta container in his possession. He rushed right behind Fluttershy’s car with her trunk opened for her things she’s bringing along on the beach. He jumped inside, went past her supplies and placed his bottle behind Fluttershy’s backpack so it could stay hidden.

“Today is going to be the best day ever!”

After Fluttershy helped Twilight with the coolers, she took Spike to her car, placed him inside and headed to the beach with him. After a five minute drive from the neighborhood to the destination, Fluttershy parked her car with the puppy looking out his window.

“I am so ready for this!” Spike said, hanging his tongue out of his mouth.

“I know you are.” Fluttershy smiled while removing her keys from her ignition. “Seems there’s a lot more girls here than boys.”

Fluttershy got out of her car while holding Spike. When they looked at the beach, Spike saw tons of girls playing in the ocean, making sand castles, and all of them were over the age of fifteen. He thought there would only be a small portion of girls during his visit, but today, he can only think how he would encounter them with the scent he’s eager to put on.

Fluttershy then put Spike down on the ground. “Since there’s tons of people here, do you think you can have someone to look after you so I can find more turtles?”

Spike’s eyes turn wide. “Really?” Spike shaking his tail. “Are you willing to do that for me?”

“Yes, after being so kind to me when I took care of you.”

“Hey what can I say. Other than Twilight, you're my favorite girl of the group.”

This made Fluttershy blush from hearing Spike’s opinion. “Well...thank you. If you need me, I’ll be on the other side of the beach.” Fluttershy left the puppy all by himself.

“And thank you for knowing how responsible I really am.”

With Fluttershy’s car doors being unlocked from the trunk, Spike headed behind her vehicle and opened her trunk. He backed away with the opening of the trunk happening automatically. He jumped into the back and took out his bottle.

“I still think testing it would be the best choice.” He took the cap off from the bottle and only poured it a bit on his head and body. The scent he’s smelling is unlike anything he felt during his strong habit of attention seeking.

As he placed the bottle behind Fluttershy’s backpack again, he pressed the button on the outside of the truck, allowing it to close in a matter of seconds. The puppy then heads to the beach with many girls in every direction, he has so many options, he’ll be ashamed to not give other girls a chance to play with him.

He then saw three girls he hadn’t seen before. One girl’s hair color ranges from blue to green, the other girl’s hair is blue and pink, while the last girl’s hair is only black. Not only did he find them really perfect, but gave him the best opportunity to test out the perfume.

“Is there anything we can do?” Ardor Knowledge asked. “We’ve gone from our neighborhood to come all the way here and we’re just sitting around here doing nothing?”

“It was my idea to go to a beach that’s bigger than the one we usually go to.” Raisy Seaweed replied.

“And this beach is a whole lot more fun than I first thought.” Danny Melody commented.

This made Ardor sighed. “I guess you're right, but what’s the differences between this beach and our beach?”

Just before Raisy or Danny would answer their friend’s question, the scent from Spike, flew by their noses as they sniffed his lovely scent. Thanks to the love chemicals, the two girls adore the scent as they turn to the puppy.

“What are you two looking at?” Ardor retorted until she began to smell the scent from Spike. The puppy would never have thought that three new girls would be looking at him with sweet smiles on their faces.

“Aww...it’s a puppy.” Danny placed her hands on her cheeks.

“We never had them on our normal beach.” Raisy added as she stood up from her towel. With the other girls both by her sides, they kneeled down so they could get a closer look of the puppy. “Especially one who smells so beautiful.

Danny placed her hands on Spike’s face while smelling his scent, much closer. “He smells so good, it felt like he came from a field of lavender flowers, but with love.”

“I know which is why, he’s staying with me at all times.” Raisy picked Spike up.

“Excuse me?” Ardor blinked.

“What made you think you can have him all to yourself?” Danny placed her hand on her hip.

“May I remind you that I don’t live in the same neighborhood and I had to pick you two up to get here. “I’ve spent most of the time at the beach you always prefer instead of this one!”

“Hey! That beach was small enough and we still liked it!” Ardor shouted back.

“Well I didn’t and I could care less about that.” Raisy calms herself down but Danny and Ardor refuse to accept her behavior. As for Spike, he didn’t think his perfume was that effective to make girls fight against each other.

“Can you at least give us a turn after you're done with him?” Danny offered.

“Fine, but I’ll deserve ten minutes of playing with him.”

This made Danny and Ardor roll their eyes as Raisy took the puppy and placed him on her beach towel.

“Why did I think having her taking us here was a good idea?” Ardor whispered.

“Probably because whenever she is in a beach mood, she’s okay to take us, but still rude to us no matter what.” Danny whispered while crossing her arms.

As for Raisy, she scratched on Spike’s head while adoring the scent she’s smelling with her sunglasses on. Even if Spike caused somewhat of a fight, he still accepted the attention he’s getting, even if it’s one girl at a time. “This is what I’ve been waiting for.” He happily thought.

After spending almost ten minutes, Raisy took off her sunglasses. She notices that Danny and Ardor are not around her. “Looks like they decide to get some ice cream for themselves.” She smirked. “Don’t worry pup, once I use the bathroom, we’re going swimming together.” She rubs Spike’s head.

As she heads to the nearest restrooms, Spike never felt disappointed in the slightest. “I can’t believe it. This is working out better than I thought. Sure there was a fight but still.” Spike then looked at Fluttershy’s car still parked, which gave him another idea. “Maybe if I add more perfume on myself, I’ll get more attention.”

When he saw Raisy closing the restroom door and locking it, it gave him the chance to head back to Fluttershy’s vehicle. He got on his feet and ran as fast as he could, he got off the beach and headed behind the vehicle. He opened the trunk and jumped inside to get his bottle filled with magenta liquid.

He got out of Fluttershy’s car, opened the cap and poured every single drop on his entire body. Not a single drop on his body is dry with the lavender now covering him from head to toe. He can even smell himself with the scent being almost five times stronger by his estimate.

“Can’t wait to have those girls smell me now!” He jumped back inside the vehicle to hide his empty bottle, and came out while turning the automatic close button. Just before he headed back to Raisy’s spot on the beach, he saw Danny and Ardor right in front of him.

“See, I told you he didn’t like being with Raisy.” Danny replied.

Before Ardor would say anything to her friend, the powerful scent from Spike flew to her nose. Upon smelling it, her body vibrated in pure interest, the same goes to Danny. She picked up the puppy and gave him a tight hug.

“You smell way more beautiful than before!” She squealed.

“I know, he’s really loveable!” Danny commented while nuzzling on Spike.

Spike didn’t know this would be more effective then before but it didn’t stop him from spending the day with the girls he just met. After spending the last ten minutes with Raisy, he wonders what Danny and Ardor can do.

Instead of heading back to their original spot when they arrived, they went far away from Raisy’s spot so they could have more time with Spike for themselves. They sat together, with Spike in the middle, they’re right behind the edge of where most of the cars are parked. It was the spot they wanted, but Raisy disagreed since she preferred to be closer to the ocean. Spike couldn’t move at all since Danny kept rubbing his head. He, of course, liked it, but only for about five seconds.

“You really shouldn’t have left Raisy behind, that rotten diva would keep you occupied until sundown.” Danny replied.

“Trust us, you're better off with us than her.” Ardor scratches the puppy’s back ear. “Considering you're lost and alone on the beach, we thought about adopting you.”

This caused Spike to slightly jump. “Adopt me!?”

“You know you deserve a place to stay for smelling so delightful.” Danny gives the puppy her sweet sweet eyes. “We know how to take care of animals like you.”

“But...I have Twilight Sparkle who already has me as a friend.”

“Not only that, just wait until we dress you in adorable outfits every single day.” Ardor commented.

Spike never liked the idea to pose in front of a camera while wearing multiple outfits on a daily basis. And the fact the perfume he has on his body placed him between the two girls, he hopes that Fluttershy would find him.

“Okay, relax yourself Spike, it’s only a matter of time before Fluttershy takes you back home. Just need to get back to Fluttershy’s car and stay insi-”

“I knew it!” Raisy shouted in anger which caught Danny and Ardor’s attention. “I knew you would take my puppy!”

“Your puppy!?” Both Danny and Ardor retorted while standing up. Spike without having anyone by his sides, backed away from the three girls.

“Just because he’s lost doesn’t mean he’s yours.” Ardor placed her hand on her hip.

“And we already called it for adoption, you're too late!” Danny added.

This only made Raisy move her hair out of her view, while not even staring at the two girls. “Oh, so we’re just going to forget that I took you here?”

“It doesn’t change the fact you’re always rude to us!” Danny getting into Raisy’s face.

“So what!? I rather be alone on this beach so I can have that puppy,” She pointed at Spike. “To be my one and only dog model!”

Spike’s jaw dropped in complete shock. It’s one thing to take pictures in so many outfits with Danny and Ardor, but modeling with Raisy will keep him further away from Twilight.

“But...I’m not supposed to be a modeling dog…”

“Oh no you won’t!” Ardor pushed Raisy. “There is only one dog who has a wonderful scent like him and we’re not letting him go!”

Raisy, being more furious, pushed Ardor and Danny out of her way to pick up Spike. “Maybe you two should consider taking a taxi home because I’m only taking him inside my car.” She recalled while smelling the powerful scent from Spike. “And smelling him all the way back home is a lot better than before.”

This caused Danny to take Spike right out of Raisy’s arm. “We would rather have that, while you get nothing!”

The three girls continue to argue which made Spike very uncomfortable. Danny placed him back on the ground so she can give Raisy more a piece of mind. Unfortunately this leads to Raisy, Danny and Ardor fighting each other by pushing and slapping their faces. They all fell on the sand, continuing their fighting, but this gave Spike the chance to escape.

He ran away without the three girls taking any notice, giving him more of a chance to stay inside Fluttershy’s car but by the time he went to the parking lot, Fluttershy’s vehicle was nowhere to be found.

“Where’s Fluttershy’s car!?” He reacted in stress. “Tell me she didn’t just leave me!? I’m lost!” Without a way to protect himself, Spike is all by himself on the beach without Fluttershy. “What am I gonna do now?”

“Hey little puppy!” Raisy called with Danny and Ardor right behind her.

“Don’t act causal, you’re the one who scared him away from us!” Ardor retorted as she and the others walked up to Spike.

“Then don’t act like he didn’t find you two responsible from the way you shouted at me.”

“My goddess, you're so ungrateful!” Danny is annoyed by Raisy's attitude.

Spike couldn’t even bother to run away because Raisy and the others will find him due to his perfume still on him. “Maybe this wasn’t a good idea.” He thought. “Should’ve left Twilight’s lavender alone, while playing with Fluttershy instead.”

“I don’t care what you think about me! Why don’t you just swim in the ocean instead?” Raisy retorted.

“What, so you can swim with him all by yourself? I don’t think so!” Ardor stomping on the ground.

Then from out of nowhere, a gas bomb was thrown from behind the parked vehicles and after landing in front of Raisy and the others, the gas immediately spread out from its origin. The gas caused the girls to faint to the ground while Spike backed away from the gas. He then bumped onto someone from behind, who’s wearing a face mask. When he turned around, he saw Fluttershy with Twilight Sparkle right behind her, while crossing her arms.

“You actually think she’s just going to leave you?” Twilight being unamused. “She only left to pick me up, since you used my lavender.”

This made Spike relieved, but it didn’t change the fact that he’s in trouble. “Well, at least I’m not going to be in dresses, or becoming a model with a spoiled diva.”

After Fluttershy took Spike back to Twilight’s place, the puppy was brought back to the basement where he used Twilight’s experiment. Twilight was holding onto the same bottle her dog used when he mixed the chemical and perfume together.

“Spike, it’s only been an hour since Fluttershy took you to the beach and you seriously thought this wouldn't backfire on you?” Twilight placed the empty bottle by her half filled lavender on the table.

“Well, I thought it looked okay.” He replied.

“Every experiment I make isn’t always ready, since I haven’t even tested it yet.”

“She’s right, you know.” Fluttershy agreeing.

“The lavender, with the addition of love chemicals, would easily distract people to the point they lose their minds. You're even lucky that only three of those girls spotted you and not the rest of the girls on the beach. Otherwise, you would probably never get any time for yourself.”

Spike had no words to describe what would really happen if he didn’t go behind Twilight’s back. For so many years where he watched Twilight working on her projects with chemicals, he had to respect her property.

“I just wanted to be in the center of attention on the beach.” He replied with sadness in his voice.

“That still doesn’t excuse what you put yourself into Spike.” The bookworm then took out her laptop which shows four camera screens. “I have hidden cameras set up, in case intruders break into my house and guess who stole my perfume.”

She then played each video showing Spike taking one of the glass bottles, the other video showed him mixing the chemicals and perfume together, the third video showed him escaping through the basement window and finally, the final video showed him putting his bottle in Fluttershy’s trunk.

“Did you seriously think Fluttershy was going to leave you by yourself upon heading to the beach. We’re not that blind.”

“Yeah, I was only helping you by getting you out of the attention.” Fluttershy commented. “Although, I fully regret leaving animals without taking them.”

Spike couldn’t even believe Twilight and Fluttershy were way smarter than he thought. If he didn’t continue to put his plan into play, none of this would have happened. “Twilight, I’m sorry for stealing you perfume.”

“I know you are, but do you even think before doing something?” Twilight asked.

The puppy kept his silence for three seconds before blurring out his answer. “No.” As he looked at the floor. “I just barely get to go on the beach. The warm sand, the amount of activities-”

“The attention from the girls?” Twilight guessed which made Spike nod. “Do you wanna know why you barely come with us to the beach? Because you took matters into your own paws.”

“Yeah Spike.” Fluttershy added. “You have your own Haytube channel, girls like us who respect you and even a place to live. The attention from girls on the beach would have happened with or without the lavender.”

“And if I never threw the gas bomb at those girls, while their memories of the last hour are erased, they will still try to find you!”

“Alright!” Spike shouted. “I get it! I’ve learned my lesson, can you please tone it down?” The bookworm and her friend remained silent, but they’re still upset with Spike. “Can you please tell me when this perfume will stop?”

“Since you’ve used every drop, it’s gonna take a while for it to wear off. Which is why you’re staying in this house for a month, with no treats for a fortnight.”

Upon hearing the punishment, Spike let out a howl to himself. Now he’s unable to have freedom outside of Twilight’s house. He sniffed himself with the perfume on his body temporarily, despite smelling the same as before, it reminded him of the smell of failure, not to mention his style of perfume is worse than Twilight’s.

“Spike.” Twilight getting on her knees while trying to be nice. “You may be a puppy, but responsibility goes to every species on this planet. Going on the beach with the perfume you stole with other chemicals would lead to serious consequences, whether it’s harmless or not.”

“And is it really worth it getting the attention from others you haven’t met before? We support you more than you think.” Fluttershy added.

“And even though this punishment will end in a month, it could’ve been longer if you used all of my lavender, because it took me days to make it. It’s never easy to make experiments during your free time.”

“Just like when we give you toys and treats from the mall.”

“I think I get the picture.” Spike said with depression in his voice. “I promise I won’t steal anything from your property again.”

This made the bookworm happy from listening to her puppy. “As long as you spend a month staying in this house, you will learn from your punishment.”

Fluttershy then picked Spike up to take him to Twilight’s bedroom. “Even animals need to be put into their places.” She commented.

“Wait! Before we leave, there is something I’m curious to ask.” Spike replied which made the two girls look at each other. “Twilight...why were you making that lavender in the first place?”

Upon hearing the question, it causes Twilight to blush while trying to be honest. “I want to use it, so Timber can find me more beautiful…”

Both Spike and Fluttershy giggled from Twilight’s answer. “Just as I thought.” Spike smiled.

“Hey, you do know I’m trying to impress him!”

“But I still don’t get why you couldn’t just buy some for yourself.”

“Fluttershy, please take him upstairs!”

Fluttershy, despite finding Twilight’s ways of getting approval from Timber adorable, listened and headed upstairs with Spike in her arms, grinning.

“Rub that snarky look off your face Spike or I’ll extend your punishment by another month!”

“So much for the attention from girls.” Spike thought.
