I had just about worked 72 hours straight on several projects and then slept for the same amount of time. So there I was, lazing in bed with an apple-mango oat shake and hay fries while flipping through a book of spells. I wasn’t looking for anything specific, I was just flipping through for a bit of a good read. I’m certainly not like Lily (and by that I mean finding a spell and trying to use it, consequences be damned). In fact, I had a few spellbooks but never used any of them. Sticking to just using my magic for what I was good for. I did consider finding a spell that would make reorganization of my room an easier task whenever the idea sparked, but I never got around to it. "Is there nothing that could be good for a try?" I think to myself whilst still filling through the book. I had finished half of my shake by now and was starting to feel the familiar anxiety itch to do something. Scheduling another "hundred" projects can wait. Redesigning my room can wait. Even trying out new recipes can wait. I need something new to do. And that's when I came across it. A transfiguration spell. I didn't think a spell such as this would exist here. I mean what use would it be since, you know, we're all ponies. "Hmm well if it's in here, somepony must've tried it and was successful. Right? What's the harm in me trying it? As soon as the thought completes in my head, I'm up on my hooves and setting the book on the stand. I suck down the last of my oat shake and let out a very loud, unladylike burp. I look over the spell many times just to make sure I have it and the steps to perform it fully memorized. Nothing left to do but to try it. With nothing left to lose, I lit my horn, concentrated, and left it fly. There was a flash before things went dark. "This was a mistake" was the first thing I said when I managed to find a mirror. After the spell, I woke up feeling unstable. Like my body was off and my magic was a bit out of whack. I managed to rub my blurry eyes and my hooves felt different. I couldn't figure out why, until I managed to waddle myself over to a mirror. And that's when I catch a full look of myself...it was a mistake. "I'm....I'M A CAT!!!" I tried blinking and rubbing my eyes several times, walking away and coming back, pacing and thinking it's a dream, anything I could. But no, this was no dream. It was real. I was indeed a cat...with a unicorn horn. My hooves had become paws. My body was small and a bit more agile. Happily, my coat was still the same. And my mane and tail didn't change but my tail was now skinny and slightly had a mind of its own. This was a nightmare. How did this go wrong? All I did was follow the spell I read. I know I read it right. And I’m sure I performed it right. So...How the heck did this happen?! I paced around my room, feeling more and more frustrated. Instead of magic sparks, I had the undying urge to cause mass destruction to my room in a kitty tantrum. I had to let it out! So with what few straight thoughts I had left, I managed to get myself a large scratching post. After that, I went to town on it. I felt my fur stand as I let out yowls and hisses and other kitty sounds as I scratched at the post. "Babe, what the heck is going on in here? Did you get a cat?" I was still going to town on the scratching post when I peeked around to see Saphirus come into my room. He was looking down at me, and with how I was behind the post, he didn't see my horn or the flower in my mane. He leaned down and cooed at me. "Well aren't you a pretty kitty. How'd you get in here? Have you seen my marefriend?" I don't know why but it irritated me a bit. "I am your marefriend." I mumbled. Saphirus jumped and backed away. "A talking cat?!" I walk from around the scratching post and sat in front of him. "No Saphirus. I am your marefriend." The shock of this was widespread across his face. I walked closer and stared him directly in the eye. After a few minutes, he started to calm down. "Do I have to convince you?" "How do I know this isn't some trick?" Saphirus leaned down to my level. "Our first date was to the movies to see a sci-fi movie, the first gift you gave me was a locket with our picture in it, our first time was on our 5th anniversary, your size is-" "Ah, no more!!! I believe you!" He blushed. "Babe, what happened? How did you manage to do this to yourself?" "I don't know. I read and cast the spell in the book on the stand. I woke up like this after. My magic feels unstable so I don't even know if it's safe to change back." I start licking my paw and grooming myself. "I only did it because I was bored today and wanted something else to do. I didn't imagine this would happen." I start licking my stomach but stop when I hear muffled snickers. I look up and see Saphirus covering his mouth with his hoof to suppress his snickering as best he could. "S-So...you r-really have..no way to turn back?" He bit his lip. I scowl at him. "I might be able to...if we go to Princess Twilight" I growl. "Which we better start doing unless you want to join me like this or get clawed." I show my claws. To this, he picked me up. "Hey!!!" "Awwww my Lotus is such a fussy kitty~ But she's really a good girl, isn't she~" He proceeds to start petting me, and...admittedly...it feels really good. I start to purr and relax before coming to my senses and squirming from his grasp. "D-Don't treat me like a cat!! I'm warning you! We're going to Princess Book Horse right nyan!" I cover my mouth and Saphirus bursts into a fit of laughter. "Celestia NYAN it! I need to change back nyan before I'm stuck like this. Come on...and don't forget the book." I start heading out the door and Saphirus follows me, still laughing. We make our way to Princess Twilight's castle where she can hopefully change me back.
