> Bubbles Popping > by mageli7 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Hello? > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The world had gone black, everything had stopped and slowed, and Ditzy Doo couldn't see a thing. Where was she? She couldn't figure it out, the bully had pushed her into the street, Vinyl Scratch yelled something, and now all was quiet. Ditzy closed her eyes and sighed, she didn't like the darkness, it looked scary. Just then a faint beam of light appeared, Ditzy opened her eyes and looked towards the light, it looked so welcoming, so warm. Ditzy walked over to the light, she smiled as she stood under it, it warmed her whole body and made her feel almost new. Ditzy opened her wings and shut them again, she could fly up there if she wanted to, nothing could stop her. Ditzy looked up straight into the light and flapped her wings, hovering above the ground, she flew towards the light until something stopped her. "We're losing her!" a voice screamed out of nowhere, Ditzy looked around, was somepony there? "CLEAR!" the voice yelled again, a small jolt went through Ditzy's body, the light disappeared and Ditzy fell down, what was happening? "C'mon kid, you gotta make it," a new voice whispered. Ditzy closed her eyes and shuddered, the voice was comforting. Something was happening but Ditzy didn't know what, another jolt went through her body as she began to feel tired, Ditzy sat and slid forward, laying on her side. Why was she so tired? Another jolt, and the voice whispered again, "Please kid, wake up,", then everything went black again. ------------ Ditzy snapped awake, the darkness was gone and was replaced by a hospital room. "H-hello?" Ditzy said, her eyes widening in fear, "I-is anypony there?" Ditzy was swept up in an enormous hug and heard sobbing. She looked over and saw her mom sitting there crying, "Mommy? What happened? Why am I in the hospital?" Ditzy said looking around the room. Ditzy's mom didn't reply, instead she hugged Ditzy tighter and cried louder. Ditzy looked around the room and noticed her father sitting in a chair looking at her, tears in his eyes. "Daddy? Please, what happened?" she asked her father. "D-Ditzy, you... you got in an accident," her father replied, wiping his eyes. "What kind of accident?" Ditzy asked. Her father sighed gently, "A car accident, do you remember? You were walking to school with Vinyl." Flashes of the day went through Ditzy's mind, she was with Vinyl, two bullies had come and then... The push, the car, the road. Ditzy looked around again realizing something, she couldn't see through her right eye. "D-daddy? I can't see, what happened to my eye?! Why isn't it working?!" Ditzy cried. "Ditzy, Ditzy! Calm down honey, when you got hit you got hurt... Your eye got hurt, I'm sorry," her father explained, holding up a mirror for Ditzy to see. Her left eye was working perfectly and she could see it in the mirror looking back at her, but her right eye's pupil had drifted in a different place, what was happening to it? Ditzy shook her head trying to get the eye into place, sadly the eye didn't move and the pupil stayed up in the corner of her eye. "I-I.... Why did this happen to me?" Ditzy said aloud. "Darling, it wasn't your fault at all, you did nothing wrong, Vinyl told us what happened and it wasn't caused by you," her dad said quietly. "How long have I been asleep?" Ditzy asked putting down the mirror. Ditzy's father sighed again, "Two weeks exactly, at first you weren't responding and we thought you were dead... They realized you were breathing and your mother and I have been switching off waiting for you to wake up." The door opened gently as a familiar unicorn walked in levitating flowers in front of her. "Is Ditzy awake yet Mr. Doo?" Vinyl said looking down at her hooves, not wanting to see her best friend hurt. "Vinyl? Vinyl! It's me, Ditzy!" Ditzy said smiling, her best friend had come to visit her, to see if she was ok. Vinyl looked up in surprise, "D-Ditzy? You're ok? YOU'RE OK!" Vinyl ran over to Ditzy hugging her and smiling. Ditzy's mother got up and wiped her eyes, her daughter was ok, everything was going to be alright. "Wait, Ditzy, what's going on with your eye?" Vinyl took off her purple glasses and looked at Ditzy's right eye in wonder. "Oh I umm... It got hurt, I know it looks stupid..." Ditzy said blushing. "No, not at all! It looks awesome!" Vinyl said smiling. "Thanks Vinyl, you're the best," Ditzy said hugging her friend. -------------- Ditzy got out of the hospital a week later and went back to school a week after that. She was extremely worried, her eye wouldn't go back to it's normal position. Ditzy had tried everything, trying to move her eyes back into place, asking Vinyl to practice spells on her, anything to fix the mistake before she got back to school. Everypony would make fun of her and none of her friends would want to be with her besides Vinyl. Ditzy sat in her room and groaned in frustration, she had been holding a mirror all day and had been trying to move her eye into place but nothing was working. "C'MON YOU STUPID EYE! FIX YOURSELF!" Ditzy yelled. "Honey? Ditzy?" Ditzy's mother opened the door to her daughter's room quietly, "Is everything alright?" "My eye, it wont move back," Ditzy said sighing. Ditzy's mother bit her lip, nopony had told her. She didn't know it was never going to fix, it was stuck like that. "Honey, maybe you should just forget about it... I don't think it's going to fix," Mrs. Doo said quietly. "What?! I'm gonna look like a freak forever?!" Ditzy cried out. "Darling, you aren't a freak, bad things just sometime happen to good ponies," Ditzy said, pulling in her daughter for a hug. Ditzy began to cry quietly, "I want to be normal, like everypony else! I don't want this eye!" "Honey, you're ok, it's ok, don't worry," Mrs. Doo said, rubbing her daughter's back. A large yell came from downstairs and Ditzy's mom looked up. "Oh, it's your father, here, I'll come back up later, ok honey?" Mrs. Doo said gently, hiding the fear in her voice. "Ok mommy," Ditzy said quietly and laid down on her bed. Ditzy's mom walked downstairs gently to her husband. When she walked in he glared at her. "Where's dinner?" he growled. "I was just about to make it," Ditzy's mother said walking over to the stove. "Do it quickly," Mr. Doo hissed at his wife. Ditzy's mother smelled the alcohol on her husband's breath, what had he become? Ever since Ditzy had been hurt Mr. Doo avoided talking to her, ignoring her as if she was just an annoying pest, what had Ditzy done wrong? She had been the one who was shoved down and hurt, it wasn't her fault, it was the two bullies, they had caused all this. Ditzy's mother cooked dinner as tears ran down her cheeks, what was happening to her family? > The tree > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hey, hey dweeb!" Chip Mint yelled at Ditzy as she walked by the colt. "Please, not now," Ditzy said under her breath. "Hey! I was talking to you!" The colt walked in front of Ditzy stopping her, "What's with your stupid eyes?" It had been a week since Ditzy had gotten back to school and it wasn't going very well, everypony was making fun of her and she had no way to stop it. Teachers had become harder on her, if she got a question wrong they stared at her in disgust. What had happened? Her eyes had changed, that was it, she was still the same filly. She wasn't normal, she didn't have her cutie mark, her eyes were weird, and she was smaller then the rest of the fillies and colts in her class. "Mint, please, go away," Ditzy sighed as she stopped walking. "What are ya gonna do about it, huh, pipsqueak?" Chip Mint yelled at her. Ditzy sighed, she wasn't able to stand up for herself because then she'd get in trouble with the school who would contact her parents, she didn't want them angry, she didn't want anypony angry. Just then she felt a push on her back and Ditz fell forward on the ground. Ditzy coughed as she fell face first into a mud puddle. Ditzy got up glaring at Chip Mint who was laughing at her. "You are the worst, you're beating me up because I got hit by a car! It's cause of people like you that I have my eyes like this!" Ditzy yelled, flying over to Mint, "How would you feel if I beat you up for the fact that you can't fly?" The colt looked back at his wings which he opened and closed gently. He wouldn't like it very much but making fun of Ditzy was different, she deserved it, being a freak... "S-so what? Lots of colts can't fly!" Chip Mint retorted. "And lots of fillies are different! Can't you accept that?!" Ditzy yelled. "I... FREAK!" Chip Mint yelled running away. Ditzy sighed and began to wipe mud off of herself. Vinyl walked over to Ditzy and began to speak. "You shouldn't let them get to you, I mean, they don't know anything," Vinyl said gently. "B-but they're so mean! I hate it! I hate this school!" Ditzy cried in frustration. "Here, let me help," Vinyl said using a spell to get the mud off of Ditzy. "Thanks Vinyl," Ditzy said hugging her friend. "No prob Ditz, now let's go inside," Vinyl said smiling. ---------------- Ditzy's father walked around the house grumbling. Nopony really knew why he was mad, he had gotten worse ever since Ditzy had been hurt. Even before the accident he was constantly out working or drinking, now he was hardly ever at home. "H-honey... Are you ok?" Ditzy's mother said, walking into the room. "No Stargazer, as it happens I'm not, where's Derpy?" Ditzy's father asked. "D-Derpy? Don't you mean Ditzy?" Stargazer asked, how much had her husband been drinking? "Mhmm, ya, just go get her," Ditzy's father said quietly. Ditzy's father sat down on the couch looking around, his house seemed so much darker, quieter ever since his daughter had been hurt. "D-daddy?" Ditzy said walking into the room. "Der- I mean Ditzy, why are your grades getting worse?" Ditzy's father questioned. "Well, the teachers, they don't like me anymore," Ditzy replied. "Don't like you? What does that mean?" He asked. "Comet, please..." Stargazer interrupted. "Not now!" Comet snapped at his wife, he looked back at Ditzy, "What do you mean?" "They don't like my eyes and everypony calls me a freak..." Ditzy trailed off. Comet snorted, who would like those eyes? She looked like a freak, "Derpy, look, you better get those grades up or else you aren't going to flight school this summer. I don't care if you look stupid, no daughter of mine is failing," "My name isn-" Ditzy began. "Shush! To your room! Now!" Comet roared. Ditzy ran to her room, afraid of what could happen to her. "M-maybe you were a little hard on her dear," Stargazer said quietly. "What did you say to me?" Comet asked looking up at his wife. "I... Nothing..." Stargazer said, looking down at the ground. "That's what I thought," Comet growled at his wife. ------------ Ditzy looked around her room, today was Sunday, there was no school and Vinyl wasn't home. Daddy was off with Mommy doing errands and Ditzy was here, alone. "Why do I always have to be here alone?" Ditzy groaned. Ditzy looked at the bubbles sitting on her desk, smiling, she walked over and picked up the bubble wand. Ditzy loved bubbles, they were so pretty and they had so many colors in them and.... Ditzy played with the bubbles before a faint light came from behind her, not noticing the light Ditzy kept on playing until she got bored. Ditzy sighed and looked out her window noticing a large tree. Ditzy smiled and walked out of her room, she was going to take a little trip. She walked down the dirt path towards the tree. Two fillies stared at her from behind some bushes. "What are we gonna do?" the first filly said laughing. "Shhh, we gotta be quiettt, but here, take a rock," the second bully replied with a grin. Ditzy walked along smiling and looking at the sky, how fun would it be to fly all the way up to Cloudsdale? Ditzy closed her eyes and imagined flying all the way up. The first bully threw a rock, hitting Ditzy on the wing. The second threw another hitting Ditzy on the head. "Ow! W-who's there?" Ditzy said stopping and rubbing her head. The two threw some more rocks which hit Ditzy, hard. Ditzy began to cry and ran faster to the tree. She had gotten away from the two and sat down at the base of the tree sobbing. Why did she always get hurt? Ditzy heard a large crash coming from some trees and looked around, "W-who's there? If you're just here to bully me then go away!" A brown stallion with a hourglass cutie mark walked out from the trees looking at Ditzy wearing a multicolored scarf. "Who are you?" Ditzy asked the stallion wiping her eyes. "Well little filly, the first question is, who are you?" The stallion said with a grin. > The Appointment > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ditzy walked to the tree where the Doctor sat looking up at the clouds. "Hi Doctor!" Ditzy yelled snapping him out of his trance. "Hmmm, oh hello Ditzy," the Doctor replied smiling, "How are you?" "I'm great, I feel better," Ditzy said, feeling better was an understatement, she felt amazing after meeting the Doctor. He was so kind, funny, and good to be around. It seemed that every time Ditzy was near him she felt lighter like bubbles. Ditzy looked at the bubbles on her flank. She sighed softly, what did they mean? She had gotten them while making bubbles and thinking about them but you couldn't make a job with bubbles! What could her special talent be? "Something wrong Ditzy?" Doctor asked looking at the concern on her face. "My cutie mark, it's so stupid, I don't know what it means!" Ditzy cried in frustration. The Doctor stared at the bubbles, he didn't know exactly what they could mean himself, "Well... How did you get them?" "I... I just got them! I think I was playing with bubbles... I don't know," Ditzy sighed. "Well what about how you make people feel? They float carelessly so maybe you make people feel better?" the Doctor questioned. "Psssh, if I made people feel better why do they make me feel bad?" Ditzy said sitting down. The Doctor looked down at Ditzy sadly, "You make me feel better if that helps at all..." Ditzy looked up smiling gently, "I-I do?" "Of course, you are one of the nicest ponies I have ever met, I love it," the Doctor said, grinning. "Thanks Doctor..." Ditzy said, she jumped up and hugged the Doctor. A voice blew through the wind, "Wakkke up Ditzy..." it called. ----------- Ditzy sat up, snapping out of her sleep. She looked around to remember where she was. Then she remembered, the psychiatrist. Her father had decided she needed to see somepony. Ditzy was becoming different. Her grades were fine, but she hardly talked to anypony anymore. Ditzy had the Doctor and that was what mattered to her. She talked to him, that was her friend. "Who's the Doctor?" the psychiatrist asked. "W-What? How did y-" Ditzy began. "You said it when you were sleeping, or well hypnotized. You looked quite happy though, but who is he or she? "H-He's a friend... W-We're friends at school..." Ditzy quickly lied. The psychiatrist looked at her, scribbled something down in a notebook, and sighed. "Okay... You can go now..." Ditzy nodded, she grabbed her bag and walked out of the office quickly. She sighed as she saw the rain, focusing her eyes, she took to the sky and flew home. ------ Ditzy sat in her room, laying on her bed. She sighed and rolled over onto her stomach, looking out her window to where the large tree sat. She couldn't she him right now, it was raining. Ditzy doubted he'd even be there... Where did the Doctor even live? Ditzy had never really thought about it, he just was always at the tree... Ditzy groaned and threw a pillow over her head and groaned, this was taking so long. Ditzy jumped up and opened her window. The rain was still pouring, but she didn't care. Ditzy took off, out the window, and flew to the tree. She looked around and saw the Doctor sitting under the tree, looking at the flowers around him. "D-Doctor? What are you doing? It's raining!" Ditzy said as she ran over to the Doctor and put a wing over him, using it as an umbrella. The Doctor sighed, "Here follow me, I have a place where we can both keep dry..." Ditzy nodded as the Doctor led her to a blue telephone box. "Hey... Aren't these in Trottingham?" The Doctor nodded and opened the door to the box, "Here, come inside..." "Okay whatever yo- WOAH ITS SO BIG ON THE INSIDE!" The Doctor nodded as Ditzy looked back at him, "Why would a Doctor need this?" she asked. "... I'm not a Doctor, I'm an adventurer of sorts..." the Doctor replied. The Doctor spent at least two hours explaining to Ditzy what he did for a living. There had been many questions, Ditzy was confused. "Please don't leave Doctor..." Ditzy said at the end of his speech. The Doctor nodded gently and pulled Ditzy into a hug, "I'm so sorry Ditzy..." ------------- Ditzy came to the tree the next day, the Doctor was not there. She looked for the TARDIS, it was not there. Ditzy looked around before sitting down. A small whimper escaped her throat. "Doctor..." Ditzy whispered gently as she took to the air. She flew home sobbing. ------------- Ditzy and her mother stood in the train station waiting for the train to Ponyville, Ditzy was getting out of her town, she was tired of everything there. Ditzy looked over to her mother, "Everything alright mom?" she asked. Stargazer nodded, "I just can't believe my little muffin is leaving..." she sniffled. A number of years had passed since the Doctor had left, Ditzy had been depressed during those years. Comet had been drinking more and Stargazer became silent. Comet left one day, just left. No note, no nothing. Ditzy was glad actually, her father had been hurting her mother, she couldn't say a thing about it. "Don't worry mom, I'll visit you, I mean Ponyville isn't that far from here..." Ditzy said quietly. Stargazer sighed and gave a weak smile, "I'm so glad you're getting out of this town really... It isn't very nice." Ditzy nodded gently as a train whistle was heard, "12:00 to Ponyville! 12:00 to Ponyville!" a stallion called. Ditzy hugged her mother with tears in her eyes, "I love you mommy..." she whispered. "Love you too my little muffin..." Stargazer replied hugging her daughter tightly. Ditzy flew over to the train and got on waving to her mother. She found a seat and sat down with a sigh. Maybe things were looking up for Ditzy... Maybe she'd be alright. Ditzy smiled and looked out the window dreaming of her new home, Ponyville.
