> Spike's Other Pen Pals > by BrawnyBold > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Catching Up Letters > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike was on his desk as he was finishing another letter to Gabby about how he has been doing. When Spike was done, he rolled up the scroll and blew fire to send it to Gabby. "Whew!" Spike said as he stretched his arms from all of his writing. "That takes care of Gabby's reply." Spike looked around the room to see if he had anything else to do for the rest of his morning. All of his Power Ponies comics were nearly organized and all have been read. His supply of gems for snacking were all inside a large bucket he keeps next to his bed in case if he wants a midnight snack. Spike's room was pretty much clean and nothing was needed to be organized. "Looks like I'm all out of chores for the morning." Spike said to himself. Spike then noticed all of the leftover scroll paper that was neatly stacked on the side of his desk. Spike suddenly came up with an idea on how to use the scrolls. 'It's been a while since I heard from my other friends.' Spike thought as he picked up the quill. 'Let's find out how they have been doing!' Spike began writing a letter to Ember. Dear Ember, How are things in the Dragon Lands? I just wanted to write to find out if you were making more progress with being the Dragon Lord. Everything is great on my end! Twilight is gonna rule Equestria and I couldn't be any more proud of her. Although there were a few times she starts 'Twilighting' (it's a term that her friends and I use when Twilight freaks out), she was able to pull through with flying colors! You were probably in Twilight's hoof-steps when you began ruling as the new Dragon Lord. Twilight could learn a thing or two from you about ruling a kingdom (heh heh). You probably get a lot of letters from Smolder about her time at the School of Friendship. I just want to confirm that whatever Smolder writes about, it is true if it involves having a great time during the new semester. I was surprised that she left the Dragon Lands without your permission during the summer. Reminds me of a 'certain dragon' I know who went against her father's wishes and took part in the Gauntlet of Fire. You must also get a lot of letters from Thorax since you guys are friends now. I too get a lot of letters from him and the changelings are doing good as well! That is all I have to write about. I hope you respond as soon as you can! Sincerely, Spike When Spike was done, he rolled up the scroll and blew fire to send it to Ember. Spike tapped the feather on his chin as he was thinking. "Who should I write to next?" Spike asked himself until he thought of somepony. "I know! Moon Dancer!" Spike began writing the letter. Dear Moon Dancer, Long time no see! I just wanted to write to you to find out how you have been doing in Canterlot! I'm sorry Twilight and I weren't able to catch up with you when we saw you at the Tasty Treat. I couldn't resist helping those mares with their orders as I tend to assist ponies. Twilight wasn't able to catch up with you because she was dealing with something 'urgent'. Don't bring this up to her, but she forgot to return a library book and she thought she got Dusty Pages fired from the Canterlot Library. As it turns out, Dusty retired because she thought she was wasting time at that library and wanted to try new things. Dusty also taught Twilight a lesson about not everything needs to be perfect. At the end, Twilight was able to keep the book and had her picture removed from the Canterlot Library for Best Book Borrower. Anyway, how are things with Minuette, Lemon Heart, and Twinkle Shine? I bet you got to do many things outside your comfort zone. That is what happens when you have friends, they tend to get you to experience new things that you never thought of doing before. Twilight had a lot of experiences of that when she met our friends in Ponyville. Feel free to respond as soon as you can! Sincerely, Spike Spike sent the letter through his fire breath to Moon Dancer. "Alright, who should be next?" Spike asked himself. He then remembered one pony Rainbow introduced to him as she thought both of them would get along really well. Spike began writing another letter. Dear Quibble Pants, It's Spike! I'm writing to check up on my fellow Power Ponies and O&O loving friend. I have been good as I got finish reading the latest issues of the Power Ponies comics. I really hope that the Power Ponies are able to take down Coltron! I really wish you would come to Ponyville to hang out with me, Big Mac, and Discord. We have a blast from every one of our guys' nights thanks to Discord making O&O real. I've been working on a special campaign for when you have a chance to be part of our guys' night. When Rainbow told me about your adventure with her and Daring Do, I couldn't help but get started on the dungeon's graph papers! How are things with you, Clear Skies, and Wind Sprint? It must be sort of difficult when being part of a family that you weren't a part of at the start. Take me for example, I was raised by ponies and there were times I felt out of place. I bet that you're getting along well with Wind Sprint even though you two have your differences. I hope you reply very soon! Sincerely, Spike Spike once again sent another letter by fire breath. He stretched his arms a second time to make some movements. "Maybe one last letter for the day." Spike said. "But to who?" Spike noticed one of the books on the shelf was a copy of Me and My Shadow written by Stygian. He immediately picked up his quill and began writing. Dear Stygian, This is Spike the Dragon. I'm not sure if you remembered me as I was the only dragon you have seen while you were the Pony of Shadow. I wanted to write to you to find out how you have been doing. I'm guessing you're doing well judging from how well your books are selling. I have read Me and My Shadow and I thought it was pretty great! Please don't tell Twilight that! Anyway, I liked the parts where you mentioned the times you felt useless around the Pillars even though you have brought them together. I so related to that as I often felt useless when I'm with Twilight and our friends. That wasn't always the case as there were times when my actions had helped them and they all valued me as an important member in their group. I'm sorry if it made you feel a little down as that never happened to you. I'm glad that Star Swirl and the rest of the Pillars have apologized to you and once again acknowledge you as a valuable friend. I hope that one day you will stand by the Pillars and help them in battle. Keep up the good writing and whatever else you do! With the last letter being sent through fire breath, Spike decided to put down his quill and leave his room to continue with his day. > Responses > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The next day, Spike stopped what he was doing when he heard knocking from the castle's doors. He flew over to open the door and find Derpy standing at the front while wearing her mailing uniform. She pulled out some letters from her saddle bag and gave them to Spike. "Mail delivery for Spike the Dragon!" Derpy said before she flew away to deliver more mail. Spike closed the door and looked at the letters. He smiled as the letters were from Ember, Moon Dancer, Quibble Pants, and Stygian. Spike flew to his room to open the letters to see what they say. The first letter Spike read was from Ember. Hey Spike, Everything is getting better in the Dragon Lands, especially with some of the teenage dragons taking up poetry thanks to Garble. There are still some dragons who are not comfortable with the idea of friendship, but I have hopes that they will get there. I'm surprised to hear that your princess friend will rule all of Equestria. I'm glad to hear that she was able to make some progress. I wasn't so scared of ruling as the Dragon Lord as I wanted the job in contrast to what Twilight is dealing with. The best advice I could give to Twilight is that if some of her subjects try to undermine her, she has to remind these subjects that they probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Twilight saving everypony multiple times. That is how I was able to get the other dragons to listen to me, I had to remind them that I was able to maintain peace in the Dragon Lands and with other nations because I was right for the job. Smolder has been sending me a few letters about her time at the School of Friendship. I believe she mentioned that there will be a teacher and guardian conference coming up. I'm not sure how those things works so maybe you can tell me through your next reply. When Smolder came back from leaving to without permission, I gave her a talking of a lifetime. After reading your letter, a part of me thought that it was good that Smolder was caring about her friends that she left the Dragon Lands immediately. I had her take part in an intense arm wrestle to get my permission to return to Equestria. It was a way to prove to herself that she won't cause any trouble or disobey me again. Thorax and I have been on pretty good terms. He often sends me fruit baskets or things he made from arts and crafts to show how much he appreciates our friendship. Some dragons who saw these would laugh and make fun of Thorax for being girly. I told those dragons that if I lost that friendship with Thorax, there may be a possible war between dragons and changelings. I also told those dragons that I wasn't afraid of putting them on the front lines if that were to happen. Since then, all of the dragons stopped with the teasing. Yep, it's great to be the Dragon Lord! That is all I have to say, tell Twilight I said hi and I have no doubt in my mind that she will be a great ruler like me! Sincerely, Dragon Lord Ember P.S. Is Twilight the purple pony with the wings or the purple one who keeps saying that her cutie mark is more of a 'glimmer'? Spike chuckled after reading the last sentence of the letter. He picked up Moon Dancer's letter to read to see how she has been doing. Dear Spike, I'm glad to be hearing from you and Twilight! It's alright if you and her weren't able to catch up with me as it looked like you two had to do something urgent. I had a feeling Twilight didn't return a library book as her photo in the Canterlot Library was replaced with mine. I guess I'm now the Best Book Borrower there. I've been sending Twilight letters on updates with myself and our other friends. Me and our other friends were able to try a new sport called Rollball. Although I wasn't good at it, I was glad to do something with my friends. There was this other time when our friends and I had a sleepover. It was fun except for when we did Truth or Dare. Let's just say that what happened at that sleepover stays at that sleepover. I'm doing as good as you expect. I hope you reply to me again! Sincerely, Moon Dancer Spike thought it was nice to hear many good things from Moon Dancer. He placed the letter down and read the next one that was from Quibble Pants. Dear Spike, It's great hearing from you again! I was lucky enough to have some time to write this letter with all of the things I got to do with Wind Sprint. There was this one time she and I went to see the new Power Ponies movie and she started to like Zap since she is also a pegasus. I'm glad that she is starting to take interest to what I like. Clear Skies and I have been doing great as we have been going on multiple dates now. Clear even considered to have her parents meet me, can you believe that?! I'm so grateful that I have got to meet Clear and Wind. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who has problems when becoming a new member of a family. When I read that you were already making a dungeon for me, I couldn't help but look in my schedule to see if I'm able to go to Ponyville and join you in your O&O guys' night! I'll let you know through the letters if I find a good time. Sincerely, Quibble Pants Spike felt glad to read that Quibble was doing great with his new family. He picked up the last letter which was from Stygian. The young dragon began reading the letter. Dear Spike the Dragon, I have been doing well recently. I have been exploring all around Equestria to see how things have changed since I was in Limbo. I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who had felt like an outcast when it comes to being part of something important. There were a few occasions where I had to take part in lots of book signings and Q&A sessions. It feels nice that a non-pony creature likes my book. In the past, I don't often see dragons around ponies as dragons back then tend to act violent. Now to my surprise, a dragon such as yourself lives among pony kind. This era is just full of surprises! I wrote Me and My Shadow to show everyone that being in darkness was not the answer as it led to loneliness. It was a good thing that you didn't follow my hoof-steps and turned your back on your friends. I'm grateful to you and your friends for showing me that there was something better than darkness. I should also thank you and your friends for showing the Pillars the errors of their ways. They even allowed me to be a Pillar of Equestria! Now I finally get the chance to fight along side with my friends if such an occasion occurs. If you want to go on an adventure, let me know so I can let you tag along with me. Star Swirl and I have found some great places that could make some excitements. Sincerely, Stygian Some knocks came from the door and Spike went to open it to reveal Twilight standing in front of him. "Hey Spike, I just wanted to check up on you." Twilight said. "I'm good," Spike replied. "I'm just reading some letters from my friends." "Well, it's good to know that you're catching up with them!" Twilight smiled as she trotted to the hallways. Spike went to his desk to write some responses to his other, new pen pals.
