> Twice the Proposal > by HyperBlossom7 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A flash of purple filled the room before it faded to reveal Twilight Sparkle. She spotted Rarity at her fabric sorting station and trotted over. Rarity had turned at the flash and beamed as her marefriend approached. “Darling, thank you for coming. I’ve just had a splendid idea!” Rarity moved around the table and asked, “You don’t have anything planned for this evening do you?” “Well I cleared my schedule as soon as I got your message, so no,” Twilight replied. Except for one thing of course, Twilight kept it to herself. Twilight did have something planned, she had been trying to decide on the right moment to do it. Now Rarity had given her the perfect opportunity for what she had planned. Rarity giggled, lifting a hoof to cover her mouth. “Oh Twilight, you’re so sweet. I’d like you and I to go out on a date tonight. Some place where it will be just the two of us. But before we go, I would like you to wear this dress I made for you.” “Oh?” Twilight watched curiously as Rarity’s horn glowed softly. A nearby ponnequin became enveloped in Rarity’s turquoise magic. The gown upon it was lifted up and floated over to the two of them. “Rarity!” Twilight gasped. “This is beautiful!” The gown was a lovely midnight blue with slightly puffed out sleeves and an intricate bronze design woven into the fabric. It was a leaf and flower pattern that Twilight really loved. She was mesmerized by the amount of detail put into the trim. “Rarity this is really beautiful, I love it!” Twilight exclaimed. She put a hoof around Rarity’s shoulders and gave her a kiss. “Thank you!” Rarity smiled fondly at her marefriend as Twilight took the dress in her own magic. “I’m so glad you like it, darling! Go ahead and put it on, I’ll go get dressed myself.” She gave Twilight a kiss in return, glad to have made her marefriend so happy. Twilight nodded and Rarity left to get her own dress on. Twilight slipped the dress on and took a look in the mirror. She blushed as she thought of the love and care Rarity had put into making this dress. She truly had the best marefriend in the world. Even though Rarity would insist she didn’t have to, Twilight would pay her back. Luckily, she had just the thing hidden under her wing. The dress did have a hidden zipper pocket, and Twilight quickly stuck said item inside. Rarity came back in wearing a burgundy gown with sapphire sequins embedded in the collar. Twilight gave the unicorn an impressed whistle and Rarity flipped her mane with a playful smirk on her face. Then Rarity took in the sight of Twilight in her new dress and literally swooned. “Oh it’s as perfect as I knew it would be!” Rarity squealed in excitement. “Right, shall we go?” “Yes,” said Twilight before lifting one hoof and bowing. “After you, my lady!” “Such a gentlemare!” Rarity said with a giggle. Twilight grinned and continued to play the part, going to the shop door and holding it open for Rarity. Her marefriend smiled and walked outside, Twilight following close behind. Rarity led Twilight to the outskirts of Ponyville, towards Twilight’s castle. A few months ago, Fluttershy and Applejack had built a garden outside of Twilight’s castle as to sort of mimic the Royal Canterlot Gardens. Only this one was more open to the public and there was even a small area for fillies and colts to play in. The area was a few acres large, and Ponyville’s river ran right through it. As it neared time for Celestia to lower the sun, the couple made their way into the garden. It was a peaceful evening, and a soft breeze blew through the area. Unbeknownst to Twilight, Rarity had asked Rainbow Dash to keep the skies clear that afternoon. The two of them eventually came to the stone bridge that crossed Ponyville’s river. At the center of the bridge, the two of them paused their walk to look out over the water. The sun was finally setting, and Luna’s moon would be reflecting in the water in a few minutes. Twilight steeled her nerves before they could even come to fruit. She knew this was the moment. However, before she could speak, Rarity took Twilight’s hoof in her own. “Darling, I have a confession to make…” said Rarity, looking deep into Twilight’s eyes. “I did have an ulterior motive when I brought you here.” Twilight’s eyes widened as Rarity took a step back. Surely she wasn’t…? Rarity’s horn glowed and a small box came out of a hidden pocket in her gown. Twilight’s jaw dropped open as Rarity sat back on her hind legs. She was unable to make her mouth work before her marefriend began to speak. “Twilight Sparkle, I have loved you even long before you knew I did. You have brought so much joy to my life and I couldn’t have asked for a better marefriend. I have always wanted to find my special soulmate, and I think I found her. What better pony to be my soulmate than my dearest and my most important friend? You are both my marefriend and my very best friend. I want us to continue to be together in all of our endeavours, because you complete me. I love you Twilight. Will you marry me?” Twilight was teary eyed and her heart was pounding hard. She loved this mare so much and she had planned to let Rarity know just as much. But she couldn’t believe Rarity had beaten her to the punch. “Yes of course I’ll marry you!” Twilight exclaimed. “But first, I want to show you something.” Twilight’s horn glowed and she unzipped the hidden pocket in her own dress and brought out her own box. “Rarity, I lied when I said I didn’t have plans. I did have a plan and while I am a little annoyed you beat me to it, I still want to go through with mine,” Twilight explained. Tears filled Rarity’s eyes and she nodded for Twilight to continue. “Rarity, I came here to Ponyville to learn about friendship. You did just that, but you also taught me so much about love and how amazing it is to have important ponies in my life. Rarity, I want to continue being with you after tonight and for the rest of our lives. Rarity I love you, and even though you asked first, I’m still going to ask you. Will you marry me?” “You know I will!” Rarity cried before pulling Twilight into a kiss. The alicorn mare leaned into the kiss, pressing her body against Rarity’s and taking in the unicorn’s warmth. The moon was now high enough for Luna’s light to shine upon them, and the two of them stayed in a close embrace.
