"Sunset!" I hear Princess Celestia call. I ignore her.

"Why should I listen to her?, the only thing she ever taught me was how disappointing and unworthy I am." I think to my self. If it went according to plan, I will be making a bee line from my room to the mirror. But as it turns out I wasn't quite fast enough to get away from the guards blocking my way. Taking a last minuet plan, I change my heading and run straight out of the castle.

I'm running. Why am I running from Celestia? What am I doing? be angry Yes... Yes that was it, Celestia always keeps everything away from me she needs to pay. pay... hurt... pain... kill! Just focus on running. Shoot!" I mumble as I see guard teleport in front of me. I charge up as much of my magic as I can into my teleport to get as far away as possible. Pop! I look around dazed until I see a guard standing next to the edge of Canterlot looking at me mouth open. I look down to see that I have teleported instead of somewhere safe and away, but over the edge of the city. Im falling. I don't know what to do. Closing my eyes I feel my horn heat up, whats happening?. I stop falling, so I open my eyes to look around. But as soon as I do, I realized I messed up, messed up bad as I still seem to be about 30 meters up in the air, my magic give out. I fall.

I groan as I try to stand up, but am unable to for the pain in my back leg is unbearable. I can't take the pain. "I must rest." I think to myself just before I black out.

"grrh" I hear.

"mmn" I respond, slowly opening my eyes to see a manticore staring at me. Filling with adrenalin I stand up. Knowing I don't have the energy to teleport without endangering myself I force myself to try and hurl a massive fireball at the manticore, only to have it fizzle out. Swinging his massive paw the manticore swats me across the clearing and straight into a large tree. crack whispering to no one I say "shoot I hope I didn't break a bone." Now fuming with anger I feel myself fill with more magical energy than I have ever felt before. kill... kill... Bang! The energy shoots off as a massive fire ball, "why couldn't that have come sooner." I mutter.

Well now that its all good and done, I used too much magic. I lay down and I think to myself, "finally, I get some sleep", just moments before I fall over, fast asleep.

I've been walking for what seems to be the last three hours and have seen nothing but trees, well until now. After I had woken up I decided to take a second look at my bag which I had found by looking next to the clearing in which I killed the Manticore.

Looking to take a break I find another cave, though it's oddly hidden behind a layer of vines it's quiet and I get a feeling of protection from it. I settle down and decide to look at the contents of my saddlebag. Inside I find a small bag of bits, my personal book from which I can communicate directly with Princess Celestia, pointless now, a map of Equestria, my personal journal, and a few library books which I won't be returning now.

Looking at my journal I decide that I am going to do something big, be something big and I want my story of how that came to be written, so I started writing of the previous events. Looking back though I found my notes from the last book I read from the forbidden section, one that told about the spell that turns unicorns or pegasi into alicorns. Looking at my notes it looks like I would need something called a Cosmic Orb. It is either that or find a true born alicorn who innately know a spell to turn others to alicorns.

Standing up I bump my head on something hard and cold, stone. I look up to see the statue of a unicorn. Looking closer at this unicorn it looks like she was trying to protect something. I look behind her another pegasus. While walking up to the Unicorn to get a better look, I accidentally poke he with my horn. "crack" shoot I hope I didn't break the statue." I think to myself. Flash. There is a bright flash of white light, I close my eyes and when I open them again, I see a unicorn with a coat so pale a pink that it looks nearly white, her mane is a deep sky blue with little white spots in it, next to her horn is a little cluster of these stars that start in the middle yellow and spiral out changing from yellow to orange, pink, purple, then to blue. Behind her is the pegasus, the pegasus coat was a deep blue, while her mane was pink in color.

The unicorn comes out yelling "-ON'T LET YOU!". Then stumbles over to her right, I go to help her when she shy's away from me in a meek little voice saying" sstay away.". Meanwhile the pegasus comes crashing into the wall of the cave. Seeing this the Unicorns exclaims "Kindle! are you okay?".

"ughh" moans the pegasus whose name I guess is Kindle.

Feeling the urge to help them I go and offer my hoof to help the pegasus up saying "Hello, I don't mean to startle you, it's just that you kind of just came to life from being a statue.".

"Ummm... okay..." is the response the pegasus gives, "My name is Kindle. Nice to meet you...?"

"Sunset Shimmer." I say answering her question. "and you are?" I ask the Unicorn

"um... my name is Galaxy Heart...".

"Well, why are you here?" asks the pegasus.

"Well, it's a long story but if you want to hear it, then..." I end up spending the next half hour retelling how I got here.

Once I finished, Galaxy growls under her breath "Celestia, grr, I just can't stand her."

Not thinking much about what she had said, I remember "Oh! yeah! Do you guys have any idea as to how long you were encased in stone?"

"No" responds Kindle.

"for all we know we could have been an hour, a day, a year, or even more than a millennium." Galaxy says finishing what it seemed Kindle started.

after some time sitting in awkward silence, Galaxy quietly brings up, "So the Cosmic Orb, hmm well I think there was something about it being

'In the farthest reaches
day and night
one hath teaches
at great hights
Sun and moon
Star and Sky
you might find
what you vie'

at least that is what the book I read said."

"Interesting," I comment " Let's try heading north till we reach the border and think about what next once we get there."

"If we want to get the most out of our travel time, we should rest up tonight, then leave tomorrow morning." says Kindle, already laying down ready to sleep.

"Fine." I reply in agreement before shifting my weight around to try and not put pressure on my back leg as I lay down.

It hadn't been too long since morning, because though morning already came and past, we have only been walking for a small bit of time when we enter a strange forest. As we keep walking deeper and deeper into the forest, a strange fog gets thicker and thicker. At first I don't think anything about it, but once I feel pressure on my horn, I start worrying. So I try a simple light spell, but I find that it took more magical power than it should have.

We have been walking for so darn long! it felt like forever I think to myself just as I hear a low

"grrr"

"What was that?" I ask Galaxy.

"Um... I- I don't know." she quietly replied.

"ghrrr" I hear from behind me. I hear what sounds like a branch snapping as I whirl around to see, standing before me a wolf like creature.

"TIMBERWOLF!!" I shout to the others to warn them. I run up to the wolf yelling "Kindle! Keep it focused on you so me and Galaxy can get it from behind!"

"Got it!" Kindle shouts back moments before she goes zooming off towards the Timberwolf. "Hey! Dummy! look over here!" I hear Kindle yell, taunting the wolf. Hearing this the wolf turns around to face the pony daring to taunt it snarling. Meanwhile, I am charging up a mid-range magical fire spell, while Galaxy was concentrating on more precise magical energy beams.

Mine hits first.

"yip!" the Timberwolf squeaks as Galaxy's beam hits it. Now looking at us I try and fire off my fire spell, just before it reached the wolf, it jumps just almost to safety, barley getting singed. Though now, its on fire and is freaking out trying to put it out as it has seemed to just forget that we were there. I recognized this as a chance to defeat it. This time I put all my focus and effort into a concentrated blast of fire, straight to the bests head. BAM! the beam hits it, cleanly slicing of the monsters head as the body falls limply to the ground.

"Finally!" I say to the others.

"That was to tiring. let's find somewhere to rest." Kindle shouts flying off.

"Well, we're waiting here I guess." I tell Galaxy

"So I found a place just outside of a cave nearby is a run-down but not falling apart." Kindle says as she appears in front of us.

"Lead the way." I say tiredly.

"Here it is." announces Kindle.

"uhhhmmmm..." both me and Galaxy say at the same time.

"I guess it might do. I'm too tired to think properly let's get inside and sleep." I sleepily say, walking inside I fall over asleep. "Good night, Kindle, Galaxy".

I wake up early the next day. Yawning and blinking my eyes open. I get up to explore our surroundings. Walking out of the house I go into the cave. Inside I see more buildings, but these ones are mostly made of wood and are rotting away. I go into one of the houses. The inside looks messy, like someone was in a hurry to leave. I leave the building seeing as there was nothing worthwhile inside and walk out to see hundreds of ponies. All in stone. I gasp as I realize that it is just like Kindle and Galaxy were. I run to get them.

"What!? It's too early" mumbles Kindle slowly standing while I wake up Galaxy.

"AH!" shouts Galaxy in surprise. "Oh it's you, sorry."

"Come on I found something you might want to see." I urgently tell them.

"What could possibly be so important that you had to wake us up this early." questions Kindle.

"Just come and you'll see." I say, trotting away, "Come on."

"Well here we are." I announce proudly showing off the many wooden houses I had found in the cave.

"So...? It's just a bunch of old houses." says Kindle un-excitedly.

"It's much more than that." I excitedly say. "Come on. Keep coming".

"This is what I wanted to show you." I dramatically tell them, while presenting the crowds of stone ponies with my hoof. The two of them just stood there, jaw hanging loosely, gaping at all the ponies seemingly trapped inside of stone. "It's just like you were!" I exclaim excitedly.

"These... Al-ll... Theres so many!" Stammers Kindle.

"no. no no no! why?" I notice Galaxy say under her breath.

I could tell they were panicking, though they were trying to keep it hidden.
"Why are you acting like that? After all, shouldn't we be able to bring them back like what happened to you?" I question, looking at them with my head tilted in slight confusion.
In response to my question, Galaxy starts talking with what seems like uncertainty hidden in her voice

"Well, no, um... We were just really lucky, a- a special case!" she finishes with much more confidence.

Well, might as well not probe too much into why.

It's Celestia...

"Huh?" I ask, my ears flicking up, "Did either of you hear anything?"

"I didn't hear anything," responds Kindle.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Galaxy asks.

"Well, I'm not hearing anything anymore, maybe it was just my imagination. you know, perhaps I'm still just a little jumpy after that last fight." I tell, attempting to smile. I can't tell if they saw through it, but that still isn't important, I am sure the voice said something about Celestia. I just hope it doesn't come back.

"Well, enough of that, let's explore, I think this might have a tunnel though the mountain. If so, then we could cut across rather than go around or over." I tell them while trying to do anything to distract myself from the voice I heard. Quickly I start to trot away to go look at a large tunnel that I spotted when first exploring.

As soon as I enter the tunnel, seeing something glitter in the corner of my eye I turn to look at it. What I saw surprises me half to death. "Dear Celestia!" I exclaim under my breath. Wondering if Kindle and Galaxy could figure out why this is here, I shout, "Uh, hey girls? Could you come here, I think I found something..."

"What did you find?" Ask Kindle flying up to where I am, turning to see what I am looking, as soon as she sees it, I notice her wings nearly stop as she nearly falls out of the air, but as soon as she does she starts back up and continues as if nothing happened. She is definitely trying to hide something. I file it into the back of my mind for later.
Only a minute later Galaxy appears but, she doesn't appear to have any significant reaction to it.
"So, do you guys have any idea of what this means?" I ask as I proceed to read the plaque aloud, tracing the words with my hoof, "Location: Vault 23 - Description: Under order of the Princess, all ponies thought to be sheltering the run away known as 'Star Field' are to be kept and safe within the vault."

"Maybe this 'Vault' is behind the plaque." I ask myself as I take my diary out to record this information.

Putting it away I start looking around to see if there is anything that looks even remotely like a door or some sort of trigger to get into the 'vault'.

As I do Kindle comes up to me and tells me "I think we should just move along, and uh maybe we could come back later...?"

"Too late." I tell her, smirking as I envelope a lever I had just found in my golden magic aura and pull it down causing the cave to echo with a loud THUD. The ground starts to tremble as a large stone slides to the side revealing a narrow and unlit pathway. Peering into the darkness, I can't see a thing. This is going to be fun, Very fun, I think to myself, and with a simple light spell cast, I trot off into the dark tunnel to explore something left unknown for many years.

I can sense the other two staying close behind me, as close as they could possibly be. To be honest, it is kind of uncomfortable with how close they are. Regardless I carry on while attempting to ignore them.

It has felt like forever and I still cannot see the end of the tunnel. I might be slightly starting to regret my decision...

Finally, after who knows how long of simply walking down this tunnel, I can see the tunnel opening up into a larger caver just ahead of us. Trotting into a barely lit cave I see just over a dozen stone-ified ponies.

"Geez," I jokingly exclaim, "What happen here, some, some sort of..., of, cockatrice stampede run through here?" I say finally remembering that the cockatrice, a creature of the Everfree forest who, with their eyes, can turn ponies and other creatures into stone. "But seriously, What happened?" I finish, looking around. In awe I note that the room was one of the biggest I had ever seen, even larger than those at the castle. Thinking back to the castle, I realize that I missed the comfy beds, the delicious meals... If only Celestia wouldn't be so selfish and let me have what should be mine.

Far in the back of the cave, there is a small tunnel, barely wide enough for a single pony to fit through it. Taking little under a minute to think about going through the tunnel, with a quick "yolo", I start squeezing my way through the incredibly small passageway.

After quite some time walking, we all find ourselves in another cave, but this one is substantially smaller than the last one. Not only that but it is oh so much colder here. On my left, there are large icicles forming around a white circle at the wall that must be the entrance. On my right there is what looks to be an old stand to place a book to read. Going up to it, I see an old and worn book siting open not quite to the middle, but not the beginning. Immediately next to the book is a small orb. There appears to be a spell written on the open page of the book. There is some information about the spell itself on the other page, it reads:

"In looking for influence
Thou shalt find all it entails,
Give take your sense and give it to us,
All you shall wan't, found in our power"

Just below it, there is some sort of poem or rhyme, it states:

"Take the glass,
find your path,
make the choice you want.
You are in control,
for now as told,
give all of it up to hold"

After reading it I think that maybe it would be worth testing, after all it basically said it would give me power. Just before notice that Kindle and Galaxy have been incredibly quiet throughout this whole ordeal. Turning around to ask them if they are okay, I see that they are no where to be seen. Looking back to the book, I shake my head and tell myself
"I can't be losing focus, I am sure they are fine". Charging up the spell I feel a soft touch on the top of my head, just around my horn, I ignore it and continue. As I gather more power, the glow around my horn increases in brightness, the book starts to become enveloped in my aura and starts to rise, so does the glass orb. I release the spell in a blinding flash of light.

The small voice that has been in the back of my head since the day I left canterlot finally took this chance to try and gain control of me.

It hurts, did the spell fail? I manage to open my eyes and see the vague shape of a large pony with wings and a horn, as if they were an alicorn, but, something was wrong, the horn was the wrong length and the wings were different than Celestia's... Maybe it is death, come to claim my soul... I don't know... I don't want to know...
Just take me away...

Unbeknownst to the dying Sunset Shimmer, Galaxy and Kindle were perfectly fine, doing so well due to the increase of magic in the area from sunset's spell that they finally returned to their original selves. A creature that no pony knew about during this day and age, after all, their Celestia and her family went to great lengths to make sure all records of this creature were wiped from existence.

With a quiet chuckle, this new creature bends over Sunset Shimmer's lifeless body and whispers to themselves, "If only you were a little stronger, if only you let that hate take you much earlier, then maybe, just maybe you could have stayed to help us with our plan. We couldn't tell you but, oh well, everycreature has their secrets".

With that, this unknown creature trotted out of the cave and spreading it's wings, took flight and if the reader was to have been there, they would notice that the creature was headed in the direction of Canterlot. Who knows what this creature plans to do, certainly not Sunset. Also, if Sunset had done some digging around the area she found Galaxy and Kindle, maybe she would have found that no such pony's existed in the area at the time of petrification, and maybe she would have noticed that there were barely surviving records of a strange creature being fought in the Everfree forest region thousands of years ago. Then maybe, just maybe, Sunset wouldn't have let loose a creature who only wanted revenge.
