> Kitsune: The Legend of the Fallen > by Frostbreath > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Prologue > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Hurry!” Saki cried as she sent another gust of razor-sharp leaves at the approaching creatures. In response, the lead creature raised its dark arm up to successfully block the attack, causing her to pale. “We must retreat if we wish to get out alive!” “And leave the Innocents to get harmed?” Raiden shouted, creating an electrical barrier around himself as multiple creatures flanked him, causing each one to be launched away in pain. “You must be insane to think we should do such a thing!” “If we can’t fight for ourselves, there’s no way we can fight them off! We have to depart, now!” “On who’s authority!?” “We don’t have time for arguments,” Akira stated, her white fur glistening with prismatic colors as she released a wave of light to fend off the creatures. “Our purpose is to protect, not flee.” “But - “ “Guys, I need help!” Someone cried. In response, the trio turned to see their pack member Sayuri quickly being flanked by multiple creatures. Quickly, they tried to reach her, but before they could, another creature rose from the shadows. Thankfully, however, this one they knew well. “Leave her alone,” the alpha cried, his black scales and fur shining under the moonlight. Howling, he slammed his paw on the ground, causing all the creatures to howl in pain before darting away. He then went to check on Sayuri before turning to the others. The alpha, along with the others, were creatures known as Kitsune Dragons. Being a hybrid between two powerful creatures meant even more abilities, along with more responsibilities. They each resembled a fox, but with scale patches along its back and fore paws, a much longer tail, longer ears, and a special trail specifically for the certain creature. Most were found having a certain color connected to their powers - Saki, with pink, Raiden with Yellow, Sayuri with blue, and Akira with white. Alpha, on the other hand, was black - black with gold, true, but primarily black. And black was not appreciated in most parts of their world. “Sayuri almost died because you chose to bicker,” he stated, glaring at Saki and Raiden while they looked down. “And you were so focused on breaking them up, you didn't notice either,” he added, his glare Turing towards Akira. “We need everyone in our pack to make it work - that includes our healer. Let this be a warning.” He turned to walk back into the forest, easily signaling the others to follow. “Remind me why we decided to make him the pack leader?” Raiden bickered as they followed from a distance. “Because he has the most experience with these things, he’s stronger, older - you know, just better than us in general?” Saki nudged him in his ribcage, causing him to growl in response. “That doesn’t answer my question - “ Raiden started, but went silent when Alpha turned on them, his face stony. “I was chosen leader because I have the most patience for all of your bickering,” he snarled, his sharp teeth showing. “But even that is fading. My head is hurting right now, and it’s only getting worse because you can’t ever shut up. Now please, just stop arguing with each other.” Turning back to the front, Alpha sighed as he continued forward. Looking up to the sky, he tries to calm himself down, but instead felt a presence on his side, one welcoming and relaxing. Smiling softly, he turned to see Sayuri leaning against him, her face knitted with concern. “You okay?” She asked. “It’s not normal for you to blow up on the team like that.” In response, Alpha sighed. “I don’t know. Remember the last time my head was hurting?” Sayuri only paled as she nodded softly, shivering as well before leaning into him more. “I have a feeling something else is going to happen - though at that capacity, that’s still unsure to me - “ “Alpha!” Turning, he noticed Akira running towards him, her face knitted with panic. “Sir, the Innocents - The villages are being attacked!” Immediately, he turned around and began to run to the closest one. “What’s happening there?” “That’s just it, it’s all of them being attacked!” “A multi-point strike,” Alpha growled in anger before sighing. “Alright, you know what we have to - “ Before he could finish speaking, however, he noticed a portal opening behind Sayuri. He went to ask Akira to close it when it began to act similar to one of his black holes, and that’s when he knew only one thing: Someone else was helping the Fallen. “Run!” He cried, turning around to get away from the portal, but the pull was only getting stronger, eventually sucking them all in before closing in on itself. Later, a lone creature walked through the area the Kitsunes disappeared from. Pausing slightly, he noticed the power of a strong magic, but at the same time, also noticed it was too far away. “What could have done this?” It asked itself before turning on its legs and ran back to its home, ready to inform his commander about this new information. > Chapter 1: Accidents Happen > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Come on, Sunset! I know you can do it!” Twilight encouraged, her wings bristling with excitement. For months, the Alicorn has been teaching her friend/student Sunset Shimmer a dimensional portal spell, due to Sunset starting college soon in her dimension. Through many failures, however, this time, there seemed to be success in this attempt. “A-Are you sure, Twilight?” Sunset questioned, breathing heavily as she swiped a strand of her red-gold mane out of her face. “I have a bad feeling about this.” “Don’t worry, it’s supposed to feel weird the first time. Now, what you want to do is to channel that power towards a certain location, and - FIRE!” Focusing, Sunset launched a beam of power at the wall against Twilight’s lab room. Slowly, but surely, a golden portal began to form, its edge swirling softly as it continued to grow. “You’re doing it, Sunset! You’re doing it!” Twilight cheered. In response, the unicorn smiled, but then groaned as her head exploded with pain, causing the portal to waver slightly, then steadily grow more chaotic. “Uh, Sunset?” Twilight questioned nervously as she began to back up. “What’s going on?” “I-I don’t know!” Sunset answered as she began to buckle. “Something’s wrong, it won’t stop!” She cried again as she collapse onto the ground, her body shaking slightly from the pain. “What? How - “ Twilight began to ask a question, but suddenly the portal turned a violet shade, causing the Alicorn to pale. “RUN!!!!” She cried, Sunset quickly following as the portal blasted out of the crystal castle and towards the edge of the Everfree Forest. Directly at a giant apple farm. “Come on, Sunset!” Twilight called, rising her friend to her hooves. “We have to go warn Applejack and her family!” Applejack grunted as she bucked another tree, the apples falling into the baskets below. Smiling, she lifted the apples into the cart. “That’s the last one, Mac!” She called as she wiped her forehead. “Eeyup,” her brother called back as he began to walk back to the barn, but stopped as he looked to the sky. “Uh, Applejack? Can ya see what’s in the sky over there?” “Huh? What’re ya talkin’ - “ she said as she looked up as well, but noticed what he was seeing. At first, she saw a purple speck, and thought it was Twilight on an errand rush. As it approached, however, she noticed there were five specks, not one. And they had a much different physique than Twilight. “Mac! Get in the barn!” She cried as she ran into the barn, gripping onto her hat as she did. The moment that Mac went in the barn and they closed the doors, They saw a blast of pink energy and saw Twilight and an exhausted Sunset. “Guys! Are you okay?” Twilight questioned, looking over them carefully. “There’s - “ “What in tarnation were you two doin’ to cause those things to appear?” Applejack questioned, looking panicked. What even are those things?” “‘Things?’ There was only one blast! How - “ Before Twilight could finish, there was a loud explosion outside, rocking the entire farm as it slowly subsided. When the Alicorn looked up, however, she chuckled nervously when she saw the infuriated expressions the Apple siblings wore. “Ah swear, Twilight, yer payin’ for all the damage that caused out there,” Applejack growled as she turned to open the door. “Eeyup,” Big Mac agreed as he went to help his sister to open the door. Seeing the disaster, however, left them all speechless. “How in the name of...” Applejack muttered in astonishment, looking around the orchard as she gasped onward. The orchard itself was perfectly fine - no damage created. Instead, however, the farm was now split into five sections - one being more productive, one containing Zap Apples, one now containing a river, one with crystals growing out of the trees, and the last one being surrounded in a thick fog. “Twilight... what did ya do to our farm?” She muttered as she walked towards the foggy section - and yelled as a creature launched at her, it’s teeth glaring in the sunlight as it prepared to bite. It resembled a wolf, with the same body physique, but it also had scales along its back and legs. It’s ears and tail were also longer, and it had a golden black strand floating from his head, containing a glowing golden gem within the spaces of the strand. “What did you do to us?!” It spoke, determining it to be a male and shocking everypony. “How did you get us here?! ANSWER ME!!!” It opened its maw, ready to bite, but was quickly hit with a blast of magic. Instead of being flown back, however, it turned to snarl at Twilight, who only paled. “B-But How?” She stammered. “T-that spell should’ve knocked you unconscious!” “I am not in the mood for your stupid excuses!” He snarled. As he growled, the ponies quickly noticed four sets of eyes behind the creature, signaling it was not alone. “Now, I will ask you again. How. Did. We. Get. Here?” “W-Well...” Twilight stammered, but noticed one of the creatures - a cyan color - went up to the black creature and nudged him slightly. “Here, let me try,” the cyan creature responded with a feminine tone, turning towards the ponies. She shared the same body physique with the black creature, but slimmer in body, and instead of an orb, her neck was surrounded by a pearl necklace, strung together with literal strands of water. “Would you care to explain how we ended up into your location? We need to get back to our home, and we’re not exactly sure where we are.” Twilight could only stare, flabbergasted, so Sunset went to explain her attempt to use a spell. As she continued to explain, the black creature calmed down, along with the others coming into the light - a black and pink feminine with a flower aroma floating around a hair strand from her head, a grey and blue male with a lightning bolt scar across both eyes, and a white feminine with rainbow colored scales and a rainbow-colored braid, along with an orb for every color on the rainbow floating around a stray strand of hair. The ponies also noticed that while the the grey and cyan creatures did not have horns, the other ones did, the white creature’s horn being larger than the others. They also noticed that the white creature and the black creature had massive tails, the black one resembling gas, and the black and pink one having two tails, though the others had smaller, singular tails. “So what you’re saying is that we were whisked to your world by a freak accident on your side, and now said accident has left us with no way of returning to our home planet,” the black creature summarized, none of the ponies noticing his eyes seething with rage. “Sounds about right,” Sunset stated. “Is that a - “ “Guys! We saw a massive explosion, what happ - whoa,” Rainbow Dash stated, coming to a halt with Rarity, Pinkie Pie, And Fluttershy close behind. “What happened here?” “I thought it was a massive party that I wasn’t invited to,” Pinkie notes before noticing the new creatures, which caused her jaw to hit the ground - literally. “Guess now we have a reason to throw one, eh?” It was then that the others noticed the wolf-like creatures standing across their friend. While Fluttershy’s eyes grew in astonishment and Rainbow began to sneer, Rarity in turn gasped in wonder as she approached the creatures to look at them closely. “I’ve never seen such beautiful fur before! The shine on all of your fur is astounding!” She stated, circling around them. And those gems you carry - amazing! You don’t happen to have any extra, do you?” She precariously reached for the cyan creature’s necklace, but pulled back immediately when the black male snapped his maw at her. “Leave my mate alone,” he growled, causing Rarity to pale and the other ponies to gasp in horror at his actions. “Hey! You don’t need to act like that towards our friend!” Rainbow stated, getting up in the black creature’s face. “Who do you think you are, huh?” “Be careful of what you say next, speedster,” the black creature growled. “You have no idea what we are capable of.” “Oh yeah? Come at me, then, you smelly son of a - “ “Blackout.” The moment those words left his mouth, Rainbow’s eyes rolled back as she went unconscious, falling ungraciously to the ground. “What did ya do to her?” Applejack cried in horror. “Relax, she’s only unconscious,” the black creature sighed. “Now, I believe we have somewhere to be, with certain creatures to get us there.” “B-But you admitted it was an accident!” Twilight stated, strands of her mane beginning to pop out of place. “How do we get you home when we don’t even know how we got you here?” “You took us out of our home, without our submission, and left the citizens we protect defenseless.” The black creature turned around. “You figure it out.” He began to walk away, but stopped when a familiar creature popped into existence. “Well, what do we have here?” Discord mused, looking at the Apple farm. “Looks like some pony else knows a bit of - “ “Havoc?” > Chapter 2: Old Memories Resurfaced > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The draconequus turned to see the five creatures all staring at him, which he stared back - until he exploded with laughter and grabbed the larger one in a bear hug. “Well, look at that! I never thought I’d see you all again!” Discord cried, releasing the leader before hugging the rest with the same excitement. “How are all of you?” “We’re fine, Havoc, but what are you doing here?” The gray wolf questioned, head cocked in confusion. “I would’ve thought your home planet would’ve been more... chaotic.” “Um, Discord?” Fluttershy piped up, flinching as everypony looked at her. “How do you know these creatures, exactly?” “You’re going by Discord now?” The cyan creature asked in confusion. “And when did you go by Havoc?” Twilight interrupted. Discord looked between the two groups before shrugging. “Eh... might as well. We got the time on our side for the moment.” He curled his tail and sat on it as he stroked his beard. “Now, where to begin...” “How about we begin with the fact that you know... whatever the hay these things are, yet they don’t even live in Equestria,” Rainbow Dash stated groggily as she began to regain consciousness. "Well, I thought you would've figured that out already. I jumped to their dimension, similar to how I did with yours." "...What?" Discord sighed as he rubbed his snout. "I can go to different dimensions. Similar to how I did with yours, I did with theirs." "Oh... that makes sense?" "So what happened when you got there?" Twilight asked curiously. "The creatures weren't exactly nice to us when they showed up." "Maybe because we weren't ripped out of our dimension while we were dealing with an invasion," Alpha growled, clearly infuriated. "Trust me, they nearly blew up on me as well," Discord agreed. "However, they saw me as an ally, and eventually a friend, when I helped them defeat the... what did you call the creatures again?" "The Fallen," Akira shuddered, her rainbow gems rippling, which caught Rarity's attention. "Creatures turned by the Darkness, only knowing to kill and spread their kind throughout the world." "So that's what you were fighting off?" Sunset asked, starting to feel guilty. "Yes, but now we know that something is controlling them," Alpha stated. "Before we were sent to your realm, we discovered we had multiple groups attacking different cities, each at least five miles apart." "So what do now?" Fluttershy asked. " If we can't send you home, then - " She suddenly stopped as she looked at Discord, who was giving the group an indifferent look. "Discord? Would you like to say something?" "I was wondering when you all would realize," he said as he snapped his talons, creating a swirling blue portal near the Dragon Kitusnes. "That I could literally send them back." Twilight face-hoofed as she sighed. "Right." She looked at Alpha and Sayuri. "So... now hard feelings?" "Just know your lucky Discord's able to send us back home - " Alpha started, but suddenly Discord grunted as the portal turned a dark shade of violet. "Discord? What's going on?" Fluttershy asked as she ran to his side. "I - Something isn't right on your side, I can't - AAAHHH!" Discord cried in pain as the portal pulsed with dark magic, causing Discord to lose control and get blown back into one of the apple trees. "Discord!" Fluttershy cried in horror as she flew to his side as Twilight noticed something in the sky. "Hey, Rainbow? Can you check to see what that is?" She said as she pointed towards it. Nodding, the pegasus flew up to the item, only for her to come back down within seconds and holding a frightened expression. "Uh... we might have a problem..." Rainbow said as she rubbed her hooves together. "The portal might also be opening up there as well... and there might be some creatures coming out of it." "WHAT?!?" The Kitsunes cried in horror as they looked and, true to her word, a portal was opening - along with multiple objects of black firing out of it and landing across Ponyville. "We have to go, NOW!" Alpha cried as he ran to the town, his companions following closely as the ponies looked onward. "Should... should we help 'em out?" Applejack asked nervously, looking over to Discord and Fluttershy. "I'll take care of him," the yellow pegasus responded, pale faced. "You go help them take care of those... things!" "C'mon girls!" Twilight yelled as she ran to the city as well, her friends following shortly. ... "Your Majesty! We are having multiple reports of dark portals appearing across Equestria!" A guard shouted as he rushed into the throne room of Canterlot, saluting quickly before continuing. " The largest one, however - possibly the source - is in Ponyville." "I see," Princess Celestia said, a solemn expression on her face, before disappearing, only to reappear with her sister in tow. "Come, Luna - We must go help Twilight and her friends." In response, Luna yawned and rubbed her eyes. "Do tell what you are speaking of, sister." "Ponyville - and all of Equestria, for that matter - is having a large amount of portals appearing." Suddenly, another guard rushed in, looking even more panicked. "Your Highness! We're getting reports of dark creatures appearing through the portals! We also have a group of five wolf-like creatures fighting alongside Princess Twilight and her friends in Ponyville, but we're not sure how long they'll last." Luna looked at her sister, any sleepiness in her eyes now completely gone. "We must hurry, dear sister. I fear great things will happen to Equestria soon if we do not act." ... As the portal was opened and multiple Fallen began flooding into the new realm, there was one who was watching that couldn’t help but grin. “It has been many years since I’ve felt such raw power before,” he spoke in a stone-like voice. “Now, I will take this world as well. And there is nothing those mutts can do to stop me.”
