It all began long, long ago. When there were only the Alicorns ruling in Ancient Equestria. There were quite a few in that time, they even had a king and queen! King Solaris and Queen Selene, rulers of the Day and the Night! Over the years the Alicorn nation, otherwise known as Alitantis, started to diminish and wither. The nature in the land was dying. There was one Alicorn who ruled over nature, Arbor. But he couldn't cover all of Alitantis by himself, as such nature slowly started to die all over the once prosperous nation. It didn't kill any Alicorns, as they were immortal, but it was still killing the animals. So came one day, Arbor went to Solaris to tell him what was happening.

"Your Majesty-" Arbor began, about to tell him of the issue.

"Arbor, please, we have known each other since we were foals, that title is just for foreigners," Solaris told him, hating how his friends thought of him as their ruler.

"Right, sorry. Anyways, the nature and wildlife all over Alitantis are withering."

"Are you sure? I have heard nothing of this," Solaris's eyebrows furrowed.

"Yes, right now it is only on the inside, and I have been able to keep it from getting worse for a time. But as it is now starting to spread, it is too much for me to handle," Arbor's face twisted with guilt, thinking of everything dying from this plight. "There aren't enough creatures to sustain life here."

"Thank you for telling me this, old friend. I will think about this and get back to you tomorrow," At that Solaris dismissed Arbor in order to think about how to save his lands.

"Sol, go to bed honey, it's late," Selene told her husband near midnight.

"Selene, just because I am the Ruler of the Day doesn't mean I need to sleep in the night," He added, "You don't sleep the entire day now do you?"

"That's because I take naps throughout the day and night, you however just sleep all night like a lazy horse," She retorted, while draping her midnight black hooves over his bright blue neck, "What are you doing up so late anyways?"

"I'm trying to figure out how to save the nature of Alitantis!" He whisper shouted, ruffling his hooves through his poofy white mane, "I have a lot of responsibility! Meanwhile, I have no idea how to fix a mess this huge!"

"I know you will think of something, I believe in you."

"Thank you, but I need to think of something, how about you shoot some ideas to me?"

"Alright." She thought for a moment, "How about making an enchantment to bring back the dead animals and trees? Or one to protect them from death?"

"No, even Alicorn magic isn't strong enough to bring the dead back to life, and if I did a protection spell then nothing would ever die!"

"Hm, maybe you could ask for some help from our neighboring nations?"

"I thought of that one, but the yaks are too destructive, the dragons are so selfish and greedy they would never help us, and the griffins are too prideful to ever help us, not that we have heard of them recently."

"What about the changelings?"

"They have been lost to us ever since the wars happened, they are no longer a peaceful nation, not like the ones we used to know."

"Well don't worry, I am sure you will think of something. Now, I think it is time for one of those naps I was talking about," Selene said with a yawn, "Goodnight sweetie, see you in the morning."

"Night!" Solaris yelled back as she retreated into their bedroom. When she left, he thought to himself about how they had lost the changelings.

They used to be so peaceful, but that was over a hundred years ago before the wars, now they are tainted black, never to go through their metamorphosis again. He sighed, Hopefully soon they will turn back into the loving creatures they once were, at least then we would be able to fix this entire mess! But that was before Queen Metamorphosis broke the changelings off from Alitantis, starting their own nation. He shook his head, clearing his thoughts before they took a sour turn.

Maybe I should take Selene's advice, I am getting pretty tired anyways, and these problems will still be here in the morning. He started to walk away when an idea came to him, No, it wouldn't work...well, if I get the help from the other Alicorns then it should be possible... He gasped and ran back to his desk, writing down his idea before he forgot it. He then proceeded to get in bed so he could think about the idea with a clearer mind when he woke up in the morning.

"Ha, who needs to sleep for ideas?" He mumbled while settling down.

"I do, you big loaf," Selene said back, he hadn't realized that she was awake still.

"Sorry hun."

"You are forgiven, now goodnight."

"Goodnight."

Solaris awoke to the blinding sunlight, Selene still sleeping next to him. Must have risen the sun in my sleep again... Since he had been the one raising the sun for as long as anyone could remember he sometimes became able to raise the sun without being conscious. Either way he got out of bed and went to the piece of paper where he wrote his idea. He looked over it again, to see if there was any merit to it. When he saw that there were a lot more pros than cons he let out an excited 'Yes!' while pumping his hoof.

"You better have a good reason for waking me, otherwise you are sleeping on your throne tonight," Selene grumbled, walking out of the bedroom, even though she had a happy glint in her eyes.

"What's going on? Did you have a really good dream or something?" Solaris asked, seeing the glint of joy.

"Noooo."

"You are excited for me?"

"Nope!"

"Then what is it? Spit it out!" Solaris told her, getting annoyed.

"Sol, I'm pregnant!" Selene yelled, squealing in excitement.

King Solaris couldn't believe it, he was going to be a father... He tried to imagine it, nope, couldn't do it. "Can you tell how many?"

"Two! And they are going to be daughters!" Selene couldn't hold back her excitement, she had always wanted to be a mother and now she will be! "Now what were you going to say?"

"Oh! I found a solution to the nature crisis!"

"You did? Well what is it?"

"Don't worry, I will tell you when I tell the other Alicorns."

"And you are sure it will work?"

"Yes, I am positive," He said, hoping she didn't hear the doubt in his voice.

"Well this day is just full of excitement! And it is only morning. You know what? I am going to make your favorite, Flapjacks, just to celebrate! See you downstairs honey." She cried before going downstairs. Man, I have an amazing wife, He added while glancing at his paper, I really hope this works...

"Thank you, my friends, for coming today," Solaris declared as he was surrounded by four alicorns when he sat down at the round table. Sat beside him was Caelum, Arbor, Selene, Ignis Terran, or Ignis as he was called, and then Aqua Vitae. The Rulers of the Sky, Nature, Night, Fire and Earth, and the Sea respectively.

"What is it that you want, Solaris?" Aqua Vitae asked raising a brow suspiciously.

"I want to share my idea of how to save nature, Vitae. What, did you think this was about cuddle time?" Sol sarcastically said, earning a few chuckles from around the room.

"You truly found a way to save Alitantis?" Arbor questioned, with a look of wonder on his face.

"Yes Arbor, with all of us working together then we should be able to accomplish this."

"Well then, what is it?" Vitae snapped.

"Patience brother, he is getting to it," Ignis said, trying to cool down his brother ironically.

"Thank you, Ignis" Solaris was a bit nervous of the next part, as he needed the help from all of the Alicorns. He had planned it all out, and now the only thing that could stop this from happening is the agreement from his friends. "I propose to create an entirely new race to spread across Alitantis!"

"What?! That is absurd brother!" Sol's twin brother Caelum said.

"It isn't! Listen to me, and you will see how it can work!" Solaris yelled, gaining silence from everyone, "As I was saying, I propose we bring in a new species, Ponies, and rename Alitantis to Equestria to better recognize who will live here."

"What do you mean, won't they also be Alicorns?" Selene asked, confusion written on her face.

"Not exactly, they will have parts of an Alicorns."

"What do you mean 'parts', brother?" Caelum asked.

"They will have the different aspects of us, but not all of our aspects," Solaris explained, "For example, the unicorns will have our horns and be the strongest in magic, while the pegasi have the wings and the ability to affect the weather, and last but not least the earth ponies will have our strength and the ability to grow plants unlike either of the other races. Oh, and the sea ponies will have the ability to change form in order to traverse the earth, sea, or sky."

"What will the unicorns do, it seems like all they will do is exist?" Ignis questioned.

"They will have one of the more difficult jobs, they will have to raise the sun and the moon, every day, and every night." Solaris answered.

"Isn't that our job honey?" Selene asked, concerned.

"It won't be for much longer, it will consume most of my power to make these four races, so I will no longer be able to raise and lower the sun. And it will be too much power needed for you to raise both, so I needed to have a race to be able to do those things for us."

"Alright, but, how will these ponies learn these skills? They can't just be made to know."

"That is where I will need your help, I will need you all to teach them how to do their jobs," Solaris started, "Arbor, you will need to teach the earth ponies how to farm and to take care of the Nature around them. Caelum, you will need to teach the pegasi how to change, and make the weather. Vitae, you will make sure the sea ponies can change fluently and to take care of underwater life, I will take care of the unicorns knowing how to raise the sun and moon."

"And what will I be doing?" Ignis wondered.

"You will need to get all of the dangerous monsters and contain them in a deep pit, a prison to make sure none of them escape."

"I can do that nicely..."

"Good, everyone ok with their assignments?" Solaris asked, making sure everyone was happy.

"Um, sweetie, you never gave me something to do..." Selene almost whispered.

"With you having our babies I don't want to put any stress on you, so you will just be resting, and waiting for them to come." Sol explained.

"I am not helpless you know, I can help!" Selene glared at him.

"I am not saying you are. I am just saying you should let the stallions do what is necessary while you rest. This isn't something a mare should be worrying about..." Solaris whispered.

"Bu-" Selene protested.

"No! Go upstairs and rest, we need to discuss some important things!" Solaris ordered. Selene huffed and stormed to their bedroom.

"Excuse us for that. Now why don't we move on?"

"I have something to ask," Vitae trotted forward, his muscles and face tense.

"What is it Vitae?

"Why must we make a lower race to us in order to do things that we already do? I am not going to become lazy!"

"I am not saying you will. We will still do our jobs, but it will be easier to keep check of everything in nature."

"We do fine the way it is, so what if a few animals or trees die? It's nature, things are going to die! Things are born to replace them. Introducing an entire new species could disrupt it to a greater extent than if we just kept going how we were!" Vitae yelled at Solaris, his pupils dilating and nostrils flaring.

"If we do nothing, then all of the wildlife and nature in Alitantis will die!" Arbor argued. "Ever since the 'changelings' left us, the decline has started to increase more and more by the week!"

"Well if Sol hadn't let them leave then we wouldn't be in this situation!"

"How is this my fault?" Sol questioned. Eyes darting to Vitae, widened larger than before.

"If you had laid your hoof down sooner than the changelings never would have left and instead, continued caring for our nation," Vitae scoffed when he said the name of the new country

"You are suggesting that we go to war with the Dragon Lands, Vitae!" Solaris bristled, changing into a defensive form.

"It would have been better than losing all of our subjects."

"We very well might have if we went to war. Queen Metamorphosis was just looking for an opportunity to break away!"

"And you gave it right to her! We could have easily taken the dragons! So what if they were bigger than us? They're so greedy that they haven't taken any lands since they became a nation! The only thing tying them together is their "Dragon-Lord Torch", who is only a teenager!"

"Vitae, please trust me on this. I am doing what I think will give the best outcome. You practically get a whole nation to lead once we finish the spell!" Sol pleaded, trying to reason with one of his oldest friends.

"Fine, I don't like it, but if it is what you think is best then I will join you," As he finished Vitae quickly turned with his wings flaring at his sides, storming off before anypony else could talk.

"Thank you!" Solaris tried to yell after the retreating figure, getting a short "hmph" in response.

"Are you ready?" Solaris asked the group. They all agreed and Solaris began.

His horn lit up and his whole body began to glow bright. He slowly levitated higher and higher as he glowed brighter. Eventually his body seemed to be splitting, getting torn in half like bacteria and duplicating. His duplicate peeled away from him and itself began breaking up, the other Alicorns watched as slowly, four ponies began to come away from his duplicate's tearing. One had a horn that glowed brightly, another had wings that looked like they could race to the ends of Equestria. The third didn't have either, but you could see the strength and gentleness in it's muscles and eyes. The fourth looked nothing like the other three though, it had feathers and wings, and even claws instead of hooves. But while they were watching it seemed to change into what looked like a cross between a pony and a fish. All of a sudden, the four ponies split into two of each kind, they split again, and again, until it looked like there were a hundred of them. Solaris's body stopped glowing, and the new race of ponies drifted down to the ground with Solaris.

"Wow," Ignis breathed.

"Astounding," Even Vitae was impressed by what happened.

"Ponies! Your task in this world is too protect nature! You each have your own tasks that you Alicorn Guardian will talk to you about! Enjoy your time, and your descendants will become powerful beings!"

"Hold on just a minute!" Vitae commanded, "Hyppogriffs come to me!"

"Vitae, what is the meaning of this!" Solaris demanded, feeling rage boil under his fur.

"I do not want to be part of your pathetic little pony race, you have gone soft! That is why the hyppogriffs and I are leaving and starting our own nation!" Vitae exclaimed.

"Brother, are your sure?" Ignis questioned, betrayal laced in his tone.

"Yes, I am sorry brother, but you will see me no more, once we move on you will have no contact with us until I die! I hope that they forget that each of the races were ever related!"

"Vitae, if you do this, we will no longer be friends. We will be enemies, and we can no longer help you," Solaris warned.

"Yes, I am sure Solaris, I will no longer need your help either," Vitae spat at him, "Hyppogriffs, come!" And with that, Vitae and the hyppogriffs left, never to see the ponies until thousands of years later.

"Goodbye friend, I do dearly hope you change your mind one day..." Solaris whispered, a single tear rolling down his cheek.

"How could I have allowed this to happen?" Solaris groaned, sitting as his desk. His mind replaying the events of yesterday over and over.

"How would you have stopped it? There was no way you could have known!" Selene protested, hating to see her husband like this, blaming himself for things he couldn't even have done.

"I could have asked for all of their opinions! First, I lost the changelings, and now I lost the hyppogriffs. I am the worst ruler in all of Equestria!" He let his head drop heavily on the desk with a sigh.

"Well, you are the only ruler of Equestria… So that would mean you are also the best one," Selene teased.

"Not. Helping." He mumbled, "But I guess you are right, I can only hope they will be happy," He lifted his head.

"That's the husband I know! Now let's go outside and see how the unicorns are doing?"

"Alright, They seem to have been able to get the sun and moon to go through their cycles. Albeit not very smoothly, so we should go and give them some tips," He and Selene then started to walk out of the palace.

"You know, we still haven't named the capital city," Selene mentioned, just before they got out.

"Hm, why don't we name it Canterlot? I think that sounds great," Solaris said with a grin.

"You just love your puns, don't you?"

"Very much so, yes."

"Eh, it was only a 6/10, I can think of quite a few that are punnier," Selene said, with the biggest %$#^ eating grin you ever saw.

Solaris laughed, "Oh, so that's gonna be how you play it huh?" They both laughed as they walked outside of the door too help the unicorns.

10 Months Later....

The Alicorn Ruler was sleeping peacefully at night while Selene was monitoring the dreams of all of the citizens of Equestria. It was a hard job, it was easier of course when there were only the Alicorns, since the changelings didn't dream. It was the only work she got to do ever since she first got pregnant. And the only dreams she had to interfere in were the worst of the worst nightmares. Inside, Solaris sighed in his sleep. She still hadn't gotten revenge on him for all of the stuff that had happened, and she could change dreams into nightmares...

Before she could change her mind she went into his dreamed and silently changed it into something that would scare the living daylights out of him. She counted down in her mind of when he would wake up. 3... 2... 1... and right when she hit zero, he sprang up out of their bed gasping for breath, his eyes the size of dinner plates. He only calmed down when he noticed her snickering and trying to hold back her laughter.

"Did you do that?" He asked her, blatant confusion and nervousness in his eyes.

"Mhm!" She simply replied. His face contorted into rage. She took a step back at how angry he seemed to get.

"HOW AND WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO ME?!?!?!?!"

"1. Don't yell at your wife mister.

2. I manipulated your dreams to turn them into a nightmare.

3. This is revenge for pampering me too much for this past year."

"What do you mean, 'pampering'?"

"I mean, you haven't let me do anything for the past year except the things that only I can do!" She yelled angrily.

"I don't want you to hurt the babies!"

"I know how much I, and they, can handle!"

"How could you possibly know that?!"

"Because I am the one carrying them! I would be able to tell, and I would never do anything to put them in danger," She suddenly got wide eyed and stumbled. Solaris went to her side, his anger quickly forgotten.

"Selene, are you okay?" He asked panicked.

"Yeah, but I have some good and bad news."

"What?"

"The good news is that you will meet your daughters soon, the bad news is that you are going to meet your daughters soon," She said with an embarrassed smile on her face. Meanwhile Solaris was shocked into a frozen state, unmoving, and unblinking.

"Sol? Sooool. Somecreature get some water, he's gone into shock," An earth pony that was currently tending to some flowers like nothing was going on perked up her ears and rushed to the kitchen to get a pitcher of ice-cold water. A couple minutes later she returned with not a pitcher, but a bucket.

"Thank you," Selene said politely, "Now, would you please go and get the doctors?"

"Of course, My Queen," The earth pony replied, about to hurry off before she was stopped.

"May I know your name? So that I can reward you for keeping yourself calm and helping me through this?"

"No proble- I mean, Of course, Your Majesty. My name is Puddinghead."

"I will try to remember it. Trust me, you will be getting a great reward for this act of kindness."

"Thank you, My Queen. You are too kind."

"No, I am just being the queen you deserve. Now, can you please go and get the doctor and Prince Arbor?"

"Okie dokie loki!" The soon-to-be Chancellor rushed off.

"Ok, Sol, I am sorry for this but it has to be done," And with that, Selene dumped the bucket of water on him after stepping back. He awoke spluttering and flailing his hooves around.

"Wha-what happened?" He asked looking around dazed.

"Well, when I told you that the twins were coming you promptly fainted on the ground."

"Wait, they're coming? Now?! There is still a month left before they are supposed to come!” Solaris now started to pace around the floor erratically. what to do what to do…. From the looks of things he was going to wear a groove into the floor before he would help Selene. You could tell that Selene noticed as well from the look on her face.

“Uhm, Sol. Wife in labor here!” She yelled at him to snap him out of his frenzy.

“Right, I’ll go and get a doctor-”

“Already sent a servant for Dr. Flora.”

“Okay then. Let’s get you on the bed.”

“Turn around, Sol.” He did so and saw that she already was on the bed.

“You are already on the bed. What else do we need? Hot water? Blankets?”

“Sol, stop worrying about this. I am going to be fine. We’re immortal remember?”

“That isn’t what I’m worried about,” he slumped forward on the bed. He raised his head so he could look Selene in the eye. “What if I’m not a good enough father?”

Selene instantly softened, her brow going up in surprise, “ Oh, Sol! That’s what has gotten you in such a tizzy? You are going to be a great father!”

“But I have no experience! I’m not even a good husband!”

“You stop that! You are the best husband I could have ever hoped for! And you are like a father to all of our subjects each and everyday.”

He slowly drew himself up to stand on all four of his hooves, “Are you sure?”

“I am positive that you will also be the best father these little fillies could ever wish they had.” Suddenly her head jerked upwards as her body convulsed. She hissed and looked at Solaris, “Just get the doctor here quick. Okay?”

Solaris was outside the royal chambers while waiting for news. The reason for this was because when the first foal was starting to crown Solaris promptly fainted. Having to be dragged out by two earth pony nurses and banished from the room until the birthing was done. The only ones allowed in the room were the nurses, Dr. Flora who was an earth pony, and Selene, of course. Caelum was with Sol, assuring him that everything was fine and calming him down whenever he started to go hysterical.

“What if the babies don’t come out right? What if Selene dies while giving birth? What if-” Sol started to say. Only to be interrupted by Caelum.

“Brother, you are getting a bit unbearable. Calm down. There have been thousands, no, millions of creatures who have gone through this same exact process!”

“I know. You are right brother. I just hope that this all will be over soon.” Just as Sol said that Dr. Flora walked through the doors.

“Your Majesty, Queen Selene has finished delivering. You have two happy foals. Congrat-” Dr. Flora never got to finish her sentence as she was pushed aside abruptly by a charging Sol galloping past her into the room. There he saw her sitting with two baby alicorn fillies in her hooves.

“They are beautiful.” He said, walking up to her and hugging her. He drew back and booped one on the nose. The one he booped had snow white fur and a bright pink mane. She squealed under his hoof, causing both of her parents to laugh.

“Don’t tease her!” Selene scolded him.

“I’m sorry. It is just that she is so precious! Here’s an idea. Why don’t I get to name her and you get to name her sister?” He looked over to the other foal in her arms. She had stars in her hair. She looked a lot more like her mother and father than the white furred one.

“Okay… what are you going to name our first daughter?” Selene asked with one brow raised. Solaris knew the name immediately.

“Celestia.”

“It’s perfect.”

“Any name would be perfect for our daughter. Now, what are you going to name our other daughter?”

“I think I’ll name her…”
