I had to feel bad for the poor guy, nopony could ever prepare any parent for the type of foal Flurry Heart turned out to be! Though, I had read several times that it’s not unheard of for unicorn foals to utilize arcane flight spells. Because of how magic develops and, well, you know probably better than I do about that stuff…” Twilight Sparkle giggled as she pictured the hectic scene in her head. Flurry Heart zipping around through combination of willpower and magic, Shining Armor desperately trying to corral her on his own, and Sunburst watching the entire scene. There were definitely times where her older brother was just a tad too stubborn. As she continued reading, the letter described how Shining finally accepted Sunburst’s help. But her mental imagery of the two stallions working together was soon replaced by rouge thoughts. It had been really fun exchanging letters with Sunburst. Ever since the first day they hung out (ever since he basically called her adorable) she had become closer and closer to the stallion. Letters were always a bit frequent; neither of them had met somepony previously who had shared their interest in things like antiquing and ancient languages. Of course Twilight had quickly asked Sunburst to help keep her updated on what was happening with her family. Thus, the letters quickly evolved from fervent academic discussion, to a good split between that topic and family news. “Speaking of knowledge, I’m sorry to go off topic, but I simply must ask; when would you be next available to have lunch? If I’m being honest it was a lot of fun hanging out with you last time. I figured if the timing works out we might even be able to do a little window-shopping! Or regular shopping, now that I think about it, we both probably have the bits to spare. Whatever works out though! Anytime spent discussing the rich history Equestria has to offer is time very well worth spent. Particularly if it’s with the esteemed Headmare Twilight Sparkle! Sincerely, Sunburst” Twilight found herself smiling as she continued reading the letter. As time had gone on the two also began to add more and more personal things into their letters. Lately it seemed as though Sunburst was asking her to hang out every letter he sent! Not that she minded of course. She greatly enjoyed Sunburst’s company. The stallion was incredibly intelligent, had an excellent sense of humor, and it definitely helped that he was… Twilight stopped her train of thought dead in its tracks. A confusion of emotions welled up inside of her. This had been happening a lot to her lately it seemed. She loved being close with Sunburst but she couldn’t possibly… Feel that way right? There was a series of knocks on her door that startled the purple alicorn out of her head. “Gah!” she exclaimed, large wings springing open as she dropped Sunburst’s letter. “Uh, I mean, come in!” Starlight Glimmer entered her room with an extremely amused smile on her muzzle. “Getting lost in your books again?” she teased, her indigo eyes darting around Twilight’s bed. “Oh uhm, well, you know how it is!” Twilight giggled nervously. ‘Oh Celestia am I blushing? Seriously?! Twilight you’re a princess why are you acting like a flustered school filly!?’ Starlight looked incredibly confused “Uhm… Okay then.” The unicorn paused, thinking for a minute before giving her best friend (and mentor) a mischievous smirk. “I guess you were reading something quite special then huh?” If Twilight’s cheeks were warm before, they were about a degree from bursting into flames now. “What?! Oh, no no no! I would never! I mean, not that there’s anything wrong with that kind of literature! It’s perfectly valid! I just… I’m not that kind of pony! And even if I were, what about Spike?! Wha-.” Suddenly the alicorn could no longer speak due to her mouth being forcibly shut. “Twilight calm down! I was just joking you silly filly.” Now Twilight was embarrassed for a completely different reason. When the fuchsia unicorn let her go all she could manage was a very soft “Oh”. “Although… Now I’m definitely curious as to just what you were reading” before Twilight could say anything, the letter next to her vanished in a burst of aquamarine and appeared before Starlight. “Starlight! Really?!” Twilight huffed. The unicorn chose to ignore her small cry of annoyance. “Ohh, a letter from Sunburst eh?” she said before promptly returning it to Twilight’s side. “You really thought I was just gonna stand there and read the whole thing huh?” Twilight shrugged finally deciding to get off her bed. “I dunno, you did say you were really curious… And also kinda just snatched it from me” she couldn’t mask the mild irritation in her tone. Starlight smiled “Oh Twilight, such little faith in your student” she teased. Twilight opened her mouth to reply but Starlight spoke before she could. “Not that I really want to get too involved in your personal business” she said, making her way over to where Twilight was standing. “But this does involve my very best foalhood friend”. Twilight felt the electric shock of anxiety ripple through her. “Twilight Sparkle… Do you have a crush on Sunburst?” “What?! No! That’s outrageous! He’s your foalhood best friend! I know how close you too are!” Twilight all but shouted, her anxiety taking a very sharp upwards turn. “I-I would never! I mean, you… And him… And you... I mean the way you talk about him… How could I ever…?” During Twilight’s oddly defensive outburst, Starlight experienced a facial journey from surprise, to confusion, to realization. It finally stopped at what could be best described as mild annoyance. “Twilight stop!” she said in a firm tone. The purple alicorn quieted down immediately, still looking a bit guilty. “I don’t care if you like Sunburst Twilight. Why in all of Equestria did you think I liked him that way? He’s important to me because he was the first friend I ever had. Reconciling with him was a huge step in my journey to being a better pony. I really needed to make sure that every time I saw him I wasn’t just… Reminded of that one terrible moment my heart was broken from losing a friend” Starlight explained. “… Oh…” Was all Twilight could manage once again, expression blank as she processed what Starlight said. Starlight giggled softly, a smile found its way onto her face “Besides, I thought you knew me a lot better than that!” Upon seeing Twilight’s face wash over with confusion she rolled her eyes and sighed, “Wow, you really are a bit oblivious to some things… Twilight, I’m only interested in mares. I don’t care about stallions in that way!” Realization dawned on the other ponies face “Ohh… That uhm, explains a lot of stuff I guess” Twilight smiled sheepishly with a nervous giggle. “No duh!” Starlight replied. “Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way… Let’s see what we can do to get the stallion of your dreams!” Twilight was filled with anxiety once again… “Oh dear”.
