The Beginning

Life in Equestria was often depicted as a care free. However, this wasn't the case for everypony. Many citizens of Equestria still struggled;some homeless and others living in poverty. One of these citizens was Skater Streak. Skater was a coach of the Ponyville roller derby team. However, her job wasn't paying enough and she struggled to make ends meet.

She didn't feel sorry for herself at all. She knew that her actions led her to this point. Skater decided to lead a team over pursuing a 'real' career, according to her father. But one couldn't deny their cutiemark. Hers; a pink heart and a pair of skates.

Skater closed the shop up for the day, her team long gone. She trotted from the rink to her small apartment on the outskirts of Ponyville. It wasn't much but it provided warmth and shelter.

Upon entering her home, she turned on the TV and set water to boil. She was so hungry and pasta sounded amazing to her. Once sitting in her recliner; she could hear the roar of thunder. Since spring had come it brought many thunderstorms. Skater watched her show, All My Foals for a few hours. They always ran re-runs; it reminded her of her mother and it brought warm memories from her childhood.

Skater glanced from the TV down to an empty dog bed.

'Monster',She thought as her ears drooped. She missed the pitbull. Things seemed rather empty now that it was just her in the mossy apartment.

She tried not to reminisce; that would just bring tears. Skater perked up and grabbed a newspaper after turning off her TV. It was the same carbon cut-out routine she had grown accustom to. She wished for a change.

She swiftly skimmed through the newspaper before an ad caught her eye.

It read,

"Miserable with your life? Happiness will be granted."

"How can someone guarantee happiness?" Skater pondered as she continue to read the ad. It had an address on it. Curious, Skater wanted to see who could promise such a thing. She made to leave to said address but the thunder hissed at her.

"Maybe... After the storm..." She spoke to herself..

Skater sat down and put on her rollerskates, quickly lacing them before heading out. She skated to the address on the newspaper that so loosely hung in her mouth. The wind grazed through her mane with such velocity. Her twin braids blowing in all different sorts of directions.

The address wasn't far; but it most certainly wasn't around the corner. To say Skater wasn't winded by the time she arrived at her destination was an understatement. She felt sweaty and gross.

The place on the newspaper was in an eery forest. It felt unnerving to her, but she continued skating to it before stumbling upon a carriage. It was black except for a small cracked bluish-purple heart on it. She cleared her throat before knocking on the carriage.

"H-Hello?" She spoke shakily. Skater knocked again, this time a little louder. Once more, she repeated herself.

"HELLO? I SAW YOUR ADVE-"

In the blink of an eye, Skater was pulled inside the carriage by a blue aura of magic.

"Sssssh! You'll only draw attention yelling so loud!..." A pony hissed. The carriage was completely dark before several candles were lit with green flames; revealing a blue unicorn with a dark sea-foam green mane.

"Who are you?" Skater questioned, her eyes squinting, trying to adjust to the light.

"The question is not who I am, but who are you, and what you are seeking?" The older mare questioned.

"I.." Skater considered her answer carefully," I'm no pony. I came here seeking happiness. What your advertisement promises." She continued.

The blue mare stared into Skater's eyes, her thin pupils focusing.

"I've been expecting you." The mare held up an amulet in her magical aura. The amulet had a dark blue cracked heart as its pendant. Its chain was a thick dark yellow.

"You have? B-but..that's impossible.." She asked incredulously.

"But it's not impossible. Only you saw that advertisement. I had no way to directly communicate."

"Again, I ask. Who are you?" Skater questioned again, her ears flattening against the side of her head.

"Fine, since you've been patient enough, I'll tell you. I am Cold Hearted, the one who will make you happy." Cold said while pushing the amulet in front of her Skater and onto the table.

"Do I have to wear it?" Skater asked quietly.

"Yes, you wear it but once you put it on, there's no going back. It allows me to let me do my job without interruption. " Cold smiled, revealing her fangs.

Skater considered her options carefully.

"O-Okay.." Skater lifted her braids off her shoulders while Cold put the necklace on her with a quick force of magic.

"Y-YES!!!" Cold hissed in delight. The cracked heart pendant glowed bright blew, filling the room with a flash of blue. Before Skater knew it;Cold was gone.

"C-Cold Hearted? Where are you???" Skater shouted. She let out a labored breath before sitting down

"M-Mmpph.. I don't feel so well..."

Everything went black.

Skater woke in her apartment. How had she gotten there? The last thing she knew she was in the cottage with... Cold Hearted? Was it a dream or did it actually happen?

"Ugh... My h-head..." Skater rubbed her forehead before feeling a bump. She frowned."Maybe I hit it?" She quickly ran to her bathroom to see that a horn had grown from the top of her head.

"I-I'm a u-unicorn?!? But how?!?" Skater shouted before slowly panicking. She took several steps back before falling into her bathtub. The amulet was still around her neck. Skater tried to take it off... but she couldn't.

Now she was really panicking. What had she done??

She had to get help.

Skater Streak quickly ran out the bathroom before her magic randomly went off burning a hole in the ceiling.

"Oh, this isn't good at all!"
Skater continued to panic as she ran outside;abandoning all thoughts.
Who could she go to help for this?! No one would understand she basically made a deal with a witch. No, she had fangs! An evil vampire!! She had to be a vampire or something akin. Those fangs and slit-sized pupils couldn't belong to a healthy pony.
She gulped in fear
'I won't turn like that, will I?' She thought in fear. She prayed to Celestia that there was a cure to this. She stopped in her tracks before slowly realizing.
No pony could help her now. This was her own fault and she had to deal with the consequences. She let out a loud exhale before slowly trotting back to her own home.
She was in for a long day...
