Chapter 1 sisters secrets
Luna had just returned from the moon but was already wondering about her past. She remembered that she had once been married to the great Starswirl the Bearded and that they had a filly together. And that to protect her from a darkness they didn't even know about yet Starswirl sent their daughter forward in time. Unfortunately they didn't how far that would be. And The thing that confused Luna the most was that a young unicorn that was her sister's student resembled her daughter help save her from Nightmare Moon reminded her of her filly, but she wasn't an alicorn like her daughter.
In Celestia"s quarters, Celestia was wondering if she had made the right decision about her biological niece. It didn't help that Princess Cadence used a secret entrance to the room to talk to her aunt about the situation.
'When will you tell them the truth?' she asked concerned
"You can't rush these things Cadence!' Celestia exclaimed "You will understand when you're older."
"I know you kept the secret when Twilight was younger, but the longer you wait to tell them the harder it will be on both of them."
"I will tell them both when the time is right!" Celestia yelled
"Whatever you say aunt Celestia." Cadence said with a sigh knowing it was pointless to continue the conversation. But her words would prove to be true before she knew it.
But that didn't matter at the moment to Celestia for she was just happy to have her sister back. And that Twilight was making friends. It was all part of her plan to help Twilight to regain her alicornhood.
In the Ponyville library Twilight was too excited to sleep, much to Spike's dismay.
"Twilight aren't you tired after what happened today?" Spike asked sleepily
"I am so sorry Spike, but it is just amazing! I was able to save Equestria and return Princess Celestia's sister to her because I made friends! I never thought friendship was so important. And I will make sure that I always have a friendship report for Princess Celestia every week!"
"Good." Spike said tired "Can I go to sleep now?"
"Sure Spike. You are still a baby dragon after all."
In Canterlot castle Celestia was remembering the second hardest decision she had make.
Flashback 20 years earlier Celestia's personal quarters
"I know it's a lot to ask, but if I keep her there will be too many questions to answer." Celestia said while still holding on to the bundle up filly in a blanket
"I understand Princess Celestia." Said Night Light her captain of the guards "As you know Twilight Velvet and I cannot have anymore foals since the problems we had with Shining Armor's birth. And he has been asking for a little sister since he spends so much time with Navy Shield's sister. But where did she come from? I cannot imagine who would want to give her up.
"You will found out when the time is right. Just like her, just know that she is really special.
"Well we'll love her like she was our own." Night Light said
"One more thing," Celestia added "I think it would be better if you were not my captain of the guards anymore."
"Are you unhappy with my service your highness?" Night Light asked concerned
"No! No!" Celestia exclaimed "It is just that with a new baby in the family your job maybe too dangerous."
Night Light didn't try to argue anymore, he took the foal and left. And Celestia had an empty feeling in the pit of her stomach.
End of flashback
"Whether it was right or wrong for me to handle things the way I did, what's done is done. No changing it." That's what she told herself but it didn't make her feel better. She felt like she had failed as a sister and aunt. Night Light went from a captain of the guards to opening a bookstore in Canterlot, and when Shining asked why he give the same explanation Celestia had. And Shining accepted it. That bookstore inspired Twilight's love of books. Celestia couldn't help smiling at how she had inherited Starswirl's love of learning, Luna's love of the night, and to some extent, her tensity to blow things out of portion.
The only pony that really knew the secret of Twilight's origin (now that her oldest servant was dead) was Cadence. That was both a blessing and a curse. a blessing because it gave Celestia somepony to confine in, and a curse because now Cadence wanted her to tell Twilight and Luna right away. But Celestia felt it was too early, Luna had just returned from the moon! And besides that, Celestia had lived for more a 10,0000 years, and felt she knew better than a fairly new alicorn.
one year later
entry from Luna's diary
It has been an eventful year for me, I am happy to home with my sister but I still wonder if Starswirl did the right thing all those years ago. I still have no idea what has become of our daughter. I have asked Tia about her repeatedly, but receive no answer. Though in my heart I suspect it of being my sister's student 'Twilight Sparkle'. The reason why I think this a lot of reasons actually. The mare strongly resembles my daughter even without wings, her Starswirl the Bearded costume was spot on, (most ponies get the bells wrong) and her name. But perhaps this is what ponies now call 'wishful thinking' on my part. Tia wouldn't keep my own daughter a secret from me, would she? I am writing my thoughts down to get them off my chest. I know my sister and she never do anything to hurt me. I am just imaging these things about her student because I miss my mate and daughter. No other reason. Twilight Sparkle is wonderful, but if she was my daughter Tia would've told me. She has always been open with me. I trust her.

Celestia hadn't meant to read the diary entry, after all, her sister respected the privacy of her dreams. But as she was passing her sister's room she decided to check on her. And the book was open, and it looked like a book her sister was just reading. Once she read it, she regretted doing so instantly. Luna is a sound sleeper so she doesn't hear Celestia's cries as she finishes reading knowing she has made a grave mistake.
