From Me To You
“Surprise! Happy April Fool’s Day my dear!”
Discord exclaimed, magically and chaotically popping out of the big bowl of bird seeds that Fluttershy was holding in her hooves as she wandered into her garden to feed her little cottage song birds.
It was lunchtime at Fluttershy’s humble home near the Everfree. Celestia’s sun was shining, the white clouds were slowly traveling across the sky and gradually revealing the spring blue sky, and all the plants were fresh and wet from the rain last night. It had been raining in Ponyville ever since the ending weeks of winter, and now, spring had truly started.
While the other animals scurried and hide from Discord’s sudden surprise, Fluttershy on the other hoof could only smile and giggle sweetly, “Oh my, Happy April Fool’s Day to you too. I liked your entrance for today.”
“Thank you, though I would have preferred something a bit more subtle like I usually do. You know, keep you on the tip of your hooves and allow you to use your brain to find me.”
“Well, you did always liked those books ‘Where’s Neigh-doe?’”
“The only good thing to come out of Twilight’s library in decades.”
Fluttershy gave him an all knowing but warm look when reminding him, “Now Discord, be nice.”
“I am, I am. Especially today! The greatest holiday of all holidays! The only good holiday that you ponies created!”
Fluttershy smiled as she placed the big bird bowl of seeds down to the ground, and as she did so, the animals slowly started to come out of their hiding spots and went towards the food that their caretaker laid out for them. Once the bird bowl was on the ground, Discord stepped out of the seeds one foot at a time. He shook out the seeds that managed to get stuck in between his toes.
“So, pulled any wonderful but not too mean pranks today?” remarked Fluttershy with a soft smirk, trying to hide it from Discord.
But Discord could see that smirk a mile away, and it made him smile instantly. His heart just warmed up when she smirked at him like that, teasing him like that. He soon replied in a fake, overly dramatic hurt tone, “Ah! Perish the thought my dear! Me? Prank ponies on such a glorious celebration like this? Oh no no! I’m a generous sort on a day like today. Miss Rarity would be proud of me.”
Then, he surprised Fluttershy by pulling something from behind him and presenting it to her with a big smile on his face. It was a colorful and bright looking box, with strings and ribbons and all kinds of decorations to make it look festive and chaotic. Fluttershy couldn’t help but chuckle with joy when seeing the box before her. The gift reminded her of Discord in every way, and she deeply appreciate all the effort he put into it to make it special for her. Sure, he did it with magic. And sure, it was probably a prank.
But, it was the thought that counts after all.
After she took the time to untie all the strings, ribbons, and everything else in between on the box, she was finally able to open. And when she saw what was inside, her mouth gaped open a little. The item inside was not she expected. It was not a prank or joke or anything of that sort. Instead, it truly was a gift. It was a light blue, porcelain, bird whistle.
“Oh Discord,” Fluttershy rejoiced sweetly yet softly, as she pulled out the whistle happily, “it’s a porcelain bird whistle. Oh, it’s beautiful.”
“Not just any bird whistle,” Discord pointed out before taking the whistle from Fluttershy’s grip gently in order to show her what the whistle can really do.
In a slightly cocky and show off manner, Discord lightly placed the tip of the whistle to his lips and blew, which made the female pegasus roll her eyes and smile. The sound that came from the bird whistle started out as one would expect, it sounded like the sweet chiming sound of a blue bird. But then, the chirping sound soon became sounding like the mewing of a cat. This unexpected sound made Fluttershy shake her head and laugh.
This call of the her new bird whistle made a new creature to come out of the Everfree Forest and run towards Fluttershy. It was hard to see what it was at first, but once it started getting closer and closer to Fluttershy’s garden, all her animals ran again and hid. The mysterious creature ran straight towards Fluttershy, and she quickly caught it in her hooves. When she looked down at this new friend, she discovered him to be quite soft and adorable. Strange but adorable. It looked like a cat, like a long haired and long tailed cat. However, the only thing that made this cat different from the others was the fact that it had long bunny ears on top of its head, and had six legs instead of four. It was a soft orange and white creature with porcelain blue eyes.
Fluttershy then noticed that this sweet new animal was carrying a small, tin, full bucket in its mouth. “What’s this?”
“Just a tiny bit of milk for your own personal use,” Discord explained, “Fluttershy, may I introduce you to your resident troll cat. These magical creatures are notorious for stealing milk from the cows without even a single bovine noticing.”
“Oh, I hope Daisy Jo and the rest of the cows didn’t mind this little guy stealing milk for us without their permission.”
“Oh relax, he only stole a mouthful. Trust me, that is not enough for any cow to get upset about.”
Fluttershy then reminded him, with the same all knowing but kind smirk that she always gives him when it comes to matters that borderline on the chaotic side, “You do realize that I still have to let them know about this little guy running around.”
Discord then joked by saying, “Or you could say that it was Opalescence.”
“Discord!” Fluttershy laughed while jabbing him into his side playfully with her hoof. This gesture made Discord laugh along with her, holding his side as to remind Fluttershy of her “harsh cruelty” against him.
When their laughter died down, Discord asked sincerely, “But seriously though, do you like your gift?”
“Yes Discord,” Fluttershy answered with a beautiful grin, snuggling into the fur of her new animal friend, “I love it. It’s the best April Fool’s present that any pony could ever give me.”
“DISCORD!”
Their tender moment was suddenly interrupted as they directed their attention to a group of very angry looking ponies and one dragon. They all stared at Discord with deep fiery hatred in their eyes, their eyes complimenting on how chaotic and messed up they looked in that moment. The sight of their friends was quite a sight to see. They were all victims of Discord’s pranks as clear as day. Twilight and Spike were joined members of a prank by both sharing an attached and a connected candy cane horns on the center of their foreheads, with paper wings on their backs instead their usual wings. Applejacks had longs ears now that dragged on the ground and trailed behind her for a couple of feet more. Rainbow Dash’s coat and mane were completely bright, neon pink and she was stuck in a pink princess dress that she couldn’t get out of to save her life. Rarity was stuck under a rain cloud that she couldn’t get rid of, and it rained on her wherever she went. Starlight was stuck with a lifeless but floppy and smelly fish as a horn that kept slapping her wherever she went. And as for Pinkie Pie, she had the most daunting prank of them all...being handcuffed to Mud Briar without a key to unlock the handcuffs.
“GET HIM!” They all shouted, pointing their hooves towards the draconequus in trouble.
“Run!” Fluttershy whispered to Discord.
“Good idea,” Discord whispered back before running to high hills, trying to escape the mob that was on his dragon tail.
