> Reminiscence > by MorbidTheBrony > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Time Flies > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a late night in the city of Canterlot. Very late in fact, when everyone must be asleep kind of late. But, in a small house on a busy street laid an awake Sunset Shimmer. She sat up on her bed with her beautiful fiancée Twilight Sparkle sound asleep right beside her. This wasn't the first time Sunset laid awake at night. In fact, it was pretty common of her to do this. She would lay awake, watching her future wife as she slept. Her Twilight looked so cute when she was asleep, with her little snore and the way she held herself next to Sunset. How Sunset found it absolutely adorable. Sunset let out a quiet sigh as she looked out of the window up to the night sky. Her and Twilight have been together for many years and so much had happened during that time. Some of the memories were some of the best of her entire life; she will always treasure every single one for them to never be forgotten. Looking away from the window, she caught sight of her shiny red and orange geode she had gotten from Camp Everfree. It glimmered in the moonlight, making it entirely noticeable no matter how dark it was. She looked from the geode back to the sleeping Twilight, and looked back up to her geode only to then gain an idea. Sunset slowly and carefully reached over to the drawers that sat beside her bed, trying her absolute hardest not to disturb Twilight, picked up the geode and looked at it closer. How this thing had helped her and her friends all these years... from figuring out criminals' origins to even saving her own friendships. But now she wanted to use it for an entirely different reason. Sunset had always replayed her memories in her head, but she surprisingly never thought of using her powers to let her actually watch them for how they exactly played out. She clipped the geode around her neck and gently placed a hand on the top of Twilight's head. Her eyes lit up a brilliantly bright white as she surfed through all of her fiancée's memories. The first memory she landed on was the first time she had ever met this world's Twilight. While everyone was trying out Rarity's different costumes for the Friendship Games in their old band room, Twilight randomly walked into the room. The girls were all excited to see Twilight, but it wasn't the same purple haired egghead they all came to know first. Before Twilight had joined the group, she attended the school that CHS was competing against for the games, Crystal Prep Academy. Sunset remembered Twilight telling her how confusing it was to be in a school where everybody somehow knew her name yet she knew literally no one there. While it wasn't a great first encounter, things continued went up for them all from there. Next she saw another memory from the Friendship Games, and it was the time when Sunset had saved Twilight from Midnight Sparkle. After the vile Principal Cinch had peer pressured Twilight into using the magic she collected from the girls, it transformed the poor scientist into a monster that had the power to tear holes in reality and into Equestria. It was a close call but Sunset then proceeded to use the remaining magic to transform into a being of true friendship. She managed to banish the power hungry beast that lived within Twilight, leading to then officially forging heir friendship. Fast forward some time later to the time when the seven girls all visited the huge new amusement park "Equestria Land". Everyone split up into couples so try all of the different games and rides. Fortunately enough, Sunset went with Twilight. They both tried out the tent games, hoping that they could win a prize. They came across a ring toss game that was ran by two almost identical brothers if it weren't for one of them having a big, red mustache. Twilight had jotted down all different strategies which should have decreased their chances of losing but yet they continued to lose every single time. They were there for about an hour, Sunset tossing the rings until her fingers ached and cracked with any movement of them, and Twilight coming up with ideas until her brain was dry of anymore ideas. It eventually got two the point where the brothers offered them a free parakeet, but then Sunset completely loses her mind and slaps the prize away as it was apparently 'not about the parakeet'. While they were there for what seemed like forever, being together somewhat brought the two girls closer together. They both endured equal amounts of pain that day that they were both happy to finally leave and go have ice-cream together. Sunset then went further into the future. This memory was shortly after they all finally left CHS. Sunset saw herself looking like she was mentally preparing herself for something. She kept telling herself, "You can do this! You can do this!" Sunset remembered this day all too well. She then held her breath and picked up the phone. She dialled a number and held the phone up to her ear, still holding her breath until her face turned blue. Another phone was heard picking up on the other end. "Hello?" asked someone on the other line. "Uh! H-Hey Twilight!" Sunset greeted. Her heart was beating right out of her chest. "I-I was just calling to s-see if you had a-any plans for-" She swallowed a lump in her throat. "-for t-the weekend!" "Uh... no, I don't think I do," Twilight answered. "Did you want to hang out sometime this weekend?" Sunset rubbed the back of her head. "W-Well, I wouldn't exactly s-say 'hang out'..." Twilight began to get suspicious. "Are you okay, Sunset? You're sounding awfully nervous." "Listen! All I want to ask is..." Sunset clenched her free hand tightly. "...w-would you like to go..." It was now or never. "...o-out for dinner with me?" Twilight became silent. Every second of silence felt painful for Sunset as it made her feel as though Twilight thought she was being crazy. Sunset was then about to instantly hang up until Twilight finally answered. "Yeah, I would love to." Fast forward to that weekend, Sunset and Twilight were together at a diner because as girls who were just out of high school, they couldn't afford such great and expensive restaurants. If the whole gang were here with them, this would feel like just some old regular hang-out, but with just the two of them it felt... special. Sure, they chatted as if it was just some hang-out, but the tension that the both of them felt really made it something else. Sunset's mind was going crazy. She hoped for this for so long and now that it has finally happened, her mind was all over the place. There was something she wanted to tell Twilight, but she was lost on what she should say. What if she said the wrong thing? What if she ends up ruining the whole night? What if Twilight rejects her?! But Sunset mentally slapped herself and sighed. All she had to do was not to rely on her brain and speak with her heart. So, she began talking the truth. "Twilight?" Twilight turned her attention away from her dinner and onto Sunset. "Yes Sunset?" This was it, the moment Sunset has waited for. "There is a reason why I wanted you to come here with me, and that is... I'm in love with you, Twilight!" She looked at the girl sitting across from her. Twilight was blushing deeply. Sunset continued on, "I have been for a while now, I just finally had the guts to say it now. I mean, look at yourself. You're beautiful, you're smart, you're funny and..." She felt as though she had to dig deeper. "We've been by each other's side ever since you moved to CHS. Even during times when I was feeling quite down, you were there for me, helping me out when I needed it. Really, for all you've done for me, how could I not fall in love with you? So... umm, what do you say?" Twilight didn't know what to say. Sunset had poured her entire heart out to Twilight. She loved her. Twilight never realised it until now, she and Sunset really have been together more than any other of their friends. She took a deep breath and also began speaking, "I-I honestly don't know what to say... You really love me that much?" Sunset nodded. "With all of my heart, Twilight." Twilight's mind was going crazy. No one apart from her family had really said that they loved her. Especially not the way Sunset had. This felt so weird for her. "I... I-I..." Sunset rolled her eyes and pulled Twilight's arm, bringing her close enough for Sunset to bring both of their lips together, sealing the deal with a passionate kiss. Twilight's eyes were so wide as they tried looking through and into Sunset's closed eyes. Her entire face had gone as red as a tomato. Twilight didn't know what to do, her brain was going completely insane. But Sunset didn't let go, and the longer they stayed together, the better Twilight felt. She managed to calm herself down and finally accept it. Then she realised something, for what Sunset had been saying about everything Twilight has done for her, Sunset had done the exact same for her. The Midnight incident at the games, Twilight's fear of her returning back at Camp Everfree. Sunset had been there for her just as much as she had been for Sunset. She finally understood how she felt now. With everything they have gone through together helped her to realise... ...Twilight was in love with Sunset too. Sunset was pulled away again from the memory and was then put into another one. It was, what was most, likely the greatest night of her life. Only a few months ago, Sunset had carefully planned out a very special night for her girlfriend. It was absolutely perfect with no faults, no distractions, nothing that could possibly ruin it whatsoever. She even went above and beyond to find the perfect date to have it. Absolutely nothing could stand in her way. One warm evening, Twilight and Sunset sat under a large tree on a hill with soft grass. They sat on a white and red chequered mat with a brown picnic basket separating the two. They ate sandwiches and drank a few glasses of wine. It was perfect, Sunset had perfectly managed to create a beautiful and romantic mood. Sunset had prepared for this moment. She had been practicing this for a few days on her own now, just for this moment. It was silent between the two currently, so Sunset took this opportunity to break the silence and finish the night on a grand note. She took a small box out of her pocket and hid it behind her back. She then cleared her throat to gain her girlfriend's attention. "Hey Twilight? There's something I've been thinking about lately," she began. Twilight sat up, facing Sunset. "What's that?" she asked. "It's that ever since we began going out, I have literally never felt happier than I have in like, ever, and because of that, I feel as though I have to do more. Now, I know that we're true girlfriends and all, but I feel as though I must solidify this relationship even further and really make it perfect and special for the both of us." Sunset then was on her knees, with them being in Twilight's direction. Her heart was pounding incredibly. "S-Sunset, what are you...?" Sunset smiled at her. "Twilight Sparkle..." She revealed the box and opened it, showing a small, silver ring. "Will you marry me?" Twilight's eyes began watering as she stared down onto the beautiful ring. She lunged forward, hugging Sunset tighter than she ever had as tears of pure joy poured from her eyes. "Yes! Yes! Yes! A million times yes!" Sunset couldn't believe it. The moment she had waited for for a long time. All of the constant stress she felt from fearing that she would say no disappeared entirely. She had said yes. Twilight wanted to be with Sunset forever. Sunset gave a great smile and hugged her love back. They stayed within each other's brace for a few minutes before letting go. Once done, Sunset took the ring out of the box and slipped it onto Twilight's finger. Their love was finally forged into an impenetrable bond, and it was all because of this ring. And then, Sunset was back in the real world. Back in her bed with her fiancée. The love she had felt for her was unlike anything else she has ever felt. She felt more alive than anything she has ever survived because of this beautiful nerd. Because of Twilight, Sunset felt as though there was a reason why Sunset had chosen to never leave this world, and that was because of Twilight, the one woman that truly understood her as though she was more than just some girl with bacon rashers for hair. Sunset planted a soft kiss onto Twilight's forehead and then laid back down, finally finding sleep.
