> Strange Little Puppy > by Cipher800 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Of Adoptions and Humans > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It's here! It's here! It's here!" the three children said in excitement as they waited anxiously in the car. The three children were Daniel, at age 12, Katie, at age 8, and Kassie, at age 7 and a half. Being the eldest, Daniel had more control over himself than his sisters, but he had been waiting too long for this moment. Living in a small town up in Wyoming, there wasn't a pet store in range. But now, there was a new pet store opening, and they were going bonkers as they drove to it. "We'll get there when we get there!" Tyson, the father, a man at age 37, said. "If you don't stop, we won't get one." All three children stopped. "Good, if you want to holler out loud, you should have done it in the backyard. Your mom was driven insane by your shouting. I know you wanted this so bad, but, please play along with me." "Okay, dad. Whatever you say." Daniel said quietly. Their mother, a 35-year-old woman named Maria, began to slowly calm down as they had arrived at the pet store. "Guys, we're here." Daniel said as his two sisters nodded in response. As soon as they got to the car, the three kids immediately went into the store, but not before their parents stopped them. "Kids, don't forget to buy a litter box for the dog, kay." Maria said. "And bring it some treats for a good deed or a trick if you want it to really like you. We'll be with you." "Ugh, where am I?" Twilight said as she opened her eyes, only for a blinding light to greet her, and she immediately shut them to block the unwelcome brightness with her... hooves, she guessed. She felt sore all over, especially feeling strange on her hooves, face, and tail. Now that she thought about it, her face seemed to be wet at the tip. "Probably just a side effect from my spell." the alicorn thought aloud before hearing her voice. It sounded, younger. "Wait, why do I?" Twilight asked, yet again, she sounded like she did when she was six. She opened her eyes and scurried off to find the nearest surface, only to feel that her hooves feel, rather squishy. Twilight put them up to her view to see not hooves, but paws covered in lavender fur the exact same as her own pelt. Her wings fluttered subconsciously as she went to what looked like a bowl of sorts. She looked to see not the face of a pony, but that of a dog, likely a husky. Her mane was gone, with the only clue of it being there was the navy blue fur present on her back, tail and face (minus the muzzle) with purple and pink dots speckled like a fawn's would. She still had her horn, but her face looked much younger than she was before she woke up. "No, no, no. What have I done? Then that means..." Twilight cried as she looked back to see a navy-blue tail with a purple and pink strip on it, but where she thought there would be a bare flank, she had a patch of fur that greatly resembled her old cutie mark. "Thank goodness my cutie mark is still there, and I still have my horn and wings, but WHY AM I A DOG!?" Twilight yelled out, causing the sound of barking to fill the air. "Wait, where am I?" Twilight asked to no one as she looked out to see that she was in what looked like a pet store, and there were a bunch of other dogs both young and old barking in response to her scream. It surprised her that she was not able to communicate with them, despite being a dog herself. "Okay, Twilight, just cast a simple teleportation spell and get on out of here. Piece of cake." she said, but when she charged her horn, only a few sparkles came out, harmlessly falling towards the ground. "NO NO NO NO! THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!" Twilight yelled, once again causing the dogs to bark. "Okay, Twilight, you're a filly again, not to mention a dog, in another place in who knows-" Thankfully, before she could go all crazy-maned again, the sound of a door opening caused her to snap out of it. "HEY! What's all the racket?" A man said as he opened the doorway. Twilight got a good look at him, and he didn't look anything like the humans from the mirror. The proportions were off, his eyes were small, and his skin was more of a yellow tone with black hair. "Another fit again. Seesh, it's like you guys won't shut up." the man said before angrily slamming the door angrily, but not before Twilight got a look at his pin. "Petco? Am I in some kind of pet store?" Twilight asked herself as she began to breathe. She flashed back to when she was testing a spell. Putting the pieces together, she began to sob. "No, why did I do this?" Twilight cried as she put her paws to her face and covered her body with her wings. "Spike... everyone, please stay strong." she wished, before she heard the door open. She turned her head to see five of these human-looking things, all of which had a peach-colored skin and brown hair. The father and the two sisters had brown eyes while the mother and the son had blue eyes. There was a sixth human in there, and that was the same one she first saw. "Wow, look at this one, Mom. I want it!" the first girl said as she pointed towards her. "She's like a unicorn and a dog put together, can I keep it, can I?" she said with delight. "Well, of course, Kassie." the mother said. "Though, it does look a little strange, especially with the wings and the purple fur. But then again, it's your pick. How much for it?" she said to the Petco Guy. "That'll be one hundred and fifty dollars, ma'am." the Petco Guy said in a deadpan, almost bored-sounding voice that nearly made Twilight laugh as he unlocked her cage. Kassie excitedly grabbed her and held her in her arms, just below her forepaws as the Mother paid the Petco Guy through this weird device and gave him green paper. "Alright, I hope you enjoy your pet today, miss. Have a fantastic day. Here's a collar for her and don't forget to." "We know!" they all said in sync as they into another room to discuss names for her. Twilight began to look up at Kassie. "You know you can hold me in a more comfortable-" What Twilight had to say was interrupted by the mother screaming. She attempted to hit her with her purse, but Kassie dodged the side as she finished the swing, dropping her as she did. Everyone looked at her like she grew another head while the Petco Guy retained his signature deadpan expression, seemingly unfazed by all the ruckus. "I shouldn't have done that, should I?" Twilight asked. "The dog just talked, the dog just..." the Mother said as she breathed in and out. "I'm sorry, miss." Twilight said as she went back onto her paws. "I... I didn't mean to scare you." Twilight said as she did some deep breaths of her own. "I just had a crazy day today." Twilight said as Kassie picked her up back in her arms, only she did it in a more comfortable way, being careful with her wings. "Well, what should we name her?" the Mother said, still with a look of fear in her eyes. Twilight was about to tell her name before Daniel answered for her. "How about... Estrela, it's the Portuguese word for "star", since she had a star pattern on her." the boy said as he pointed at Twilight's flank, and everyone looked to see her cutie mark on her. Of course, Twilight did not know what Portugese is and nor did she care. If this family was nice, then she can grow and gradually get her magic back. It was her very special talent, she got her cutie mark during a powerful surge, and she still has it on her flanks. "Alright, Estrela it is, then." the Father said as he got her tag ready for her. "Jeez, first you kids yell about the new store and now the dog just talked, this is-" Whatever he said was interrupted by him closing the door. "Umm, hey." the voice of Kassie said as Twilight looked up to her. "I... I was a little freaked out too, you know, but I watch a lot of shows with talking animals, and I wondered what it was like talking with them. Can't we, just put this whole mess behind us, Estrela?" Kassie said as she stroked Twilight behind her ears. "Okay, but it's not Estrela, it's Twilight." Twilight said to her new owner, who was currently petting her back. "Okay, but Dad's already pretty busy with the tag, so get used to being called that name by everyone else." Kassie said with a sweet smile. Twilight smiled back as she stroked the fur on her head. Already, she was feeling safer around the little girl, and opened her mouth with a big yawn. "Oh my, you must be sleepy already. I guess you had a pretty rough day there, did you?" That was all she could hear as she was falling asleep. With a quiet nod, Twilight dazed off into sleep. > A Puppy's New Home > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight woke up and looked around. She was not at the pet store anymore, but it appeared she was what looked like a house. She looked at her new paws, signifying that it wasn't a dream. The purple dog casually got up, scouting the area that surrounded her. It was a moderately sized home, for the human-things, that is, with yellow and blue striped wallpaper and a carpeted floor, similar to those in the world at Canterlot High. There was a nearby couch which looked like it was made from what looked like leather. Right next to it were two end tables, and parallel to it on what looked like a coffee table, was something called a "television", which she found out about in Canterlot High. Plugged into it, was something that looked like a console, again something that doesn't exist in Equestria. The words "Super Nintendo Entertainment System", quite likely a video game console, but she hadn't heard on this Nintendo character anywhere and wondered who he or she was. On top of it was another console, one which said "Nintendo 64", again the Nintendo word was on it. A company perhaps? Casually getting up to her... paws and stretching, as she began to take her first steps in her new body. She felt even more like a young foal than she already was at the moment. "Our new puppy's like a little angel when she sleeps, isn't she?" A female-sounding voice said. Twilight was about to walk when she looked at the couch. Curiously, she pounced onto the seat, flapping her wings for extra air time as she landed on the leather couch on her paws. "Yes she is, Katie, Kass has been head over heels with the purple pup." The voice of the older brother said, causing the former pony to blush. "Well, not really in love with her, but you get what I'm saying right here." Twilight began climbing up the edges of the couch, almost about to get up to the top when she suddenly slipped and fell on her belly. Twilight yelped in pain just like a young puppy would before getting up. "Alright, I suppose it's just walking, then." she said as she began to walk around the couch to check the conversation. "Anyways, I'm gonna play Kirby 64: the Crystal Shards on the N64. But first, the dog needs to be fed." the male voice said as Twilight heard footsteps. By the time she had arrived, she saw that the boy was walking towards her before pausing unexpectedly. "Wait, I almost forgot." he said as he opened the cabinet near him and grabbed what looked like a black strip of sorts. "I have to put on the dog's collar and feed her." Daniel said. Twilight began to look down and feel with her paws, noticing that her collar isn't on her yet. Twilight saw Daniel walk towards her direction and, remembering the last events, she walked up towards him and let him put the collar around her neck. "Um, I appreciate that I'm in a loving family, but I'm more than just an ordinary animal here. I'm just as intelligent as any of you are." Twilight said. "So, what's your name?" the purple dog asked as the boy finished her collar. "Oh, my name's Daniel. As you remember, we adopted you at the pet store. While you were asleep for three hours, give or take, we watched a quick movie and I played Super Mario World a bit after that, Estrela." Twilight attempted to put her collar's tag in her view, but found she couldn't. "You want to see your collar, do you? I'll be right back." Daniel said as he walked off to find a handheld mirror. Twilight smiled as the boy walked to find his mirror, yet she missed Spike so much. She hoped he would find a way, but she knew that she'd most likely be here for millennia to come if she retained her immortality. But then again, she had magic, so she can escape sometime, but she'll have to grow up all over again if she wanted to leave the place. Her thoughts turned to Daniel once he returned with a handheld mirror in his hand. Twilight walked over to look at her collar. It was black, of course, and had a metallic circular tag that read "Estrela" on it. "Um... thanks, I guess." Twilight said as she looked at her collar. Daniel nodded as he walked towards the television, activating the Ninetndo 64 console she saw earlier. Twilight just hopped up onto the couch and began watching Daniel play. "Kirby? What is that?" Twilight asked as he pressed a button on the controller. "Oh, both it and the Mario series are the two best video games in the world." Daniel said as he began to play, with the new family pet watching. Twilight looked at the adorable background and stuff, but what scared her at the start was when the Dark Matter Army invaded Planet Pop Star. Daniel "guided" Kirby through the various odd-shaped planets throughout the Ripple Star system, conquering one boss at a time, including a Dark Matter possessed King Dedede. He could've done this forever if it weren't for her mother calling for dinner, right after he had just finished defeating the boss of Shiver Star. Quickly, he saved the game, turned it off, and walked right to the dinner table. Twilight came in along with him, she was feeling quite hungry, after all. But as she expected, dog food, but it seemed much softer than the food Winona had. She took a quick sniff at it, and took a bite to chew. She half-expected the taste to be something else, but to her new form's taste buds, it was heavenly. She was a puppy, after all. While, the taste was a bit weird, beggars can't be choosers. Even if the taste wasn't very good, she had water to wash it down. She overheard the Robinsons talk to one another about various things, such as her getting adopted and how the weather's been doing. Though she didn't know how this world worked right away, she at least had a good blueprint on how it did based on her human world experiences through the mirror.. By the time dinner was done, the purple dog began sipping on her water. It would've been embarrassing to do if she was still a pony, but she felt a little more in character judging by her new form. When she was done with that, she hopped up to their parents, who were busy watching some "Star Trek" show on the television. "Wow, what's this?" Twilight said as she jumped onto the couch seat while propelling her wings, this time successful doing so. "Oh, that. You haven't heard of Star Trek before? But, then again, what lab did you escape from, anyway?" Tyson said in a questioning tone. "I haven't been in a lab." Twilight said. When she wanted to talk about Equestria, her words got mixed up much like a young foal's would. "Oh, forget it." Twilight said as she began to get seated and watch Star Trek. Apparently, it was a sci-fi story in which a crew working for the UFP look for the galaxy and search for the unknown. It reminded her a lot of how she and her friends are. Twenty minutes in, and a time in the litter box, she began to fall asleep. > First of July > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight Sparkle once again awoke to find none of that was a dream, and once again did she find herself in a different position than she originally was. She stretched her front legs and her wings as she woozily got up onto her paws before shaking her head awake. Curiously looking around the room, Twilight took in every detail able to be offered. She appeared to be on what looked like a large bed, well, large for her, anyway, with a dark pink comforter on top, and a decent white wooden frame. Accompanying her on the bed was none other than Kassie, who was sound asleep under the covers. The room itself was a lighter pink than the bed, with some assorted pictures, Kassie was the youngest, after all, so that would explain the dolls lying around the room. There was also a clock cleverly shaped like a cat, and a few other things that were littered about on the shelf, including a few books. Twilight then walked towards the window to get a better look of the morning light coming from it before turning to the still sleeping girl, then looked at an alarm clock before it beeped. Kassie then moved her hand, searching for the clock for a few tries before finally turning it off. "Oh, hey Twilight." Kassie said as she opened her eyes. She did say she would still call her Twilight, after all. "What are you doing here?" "I wasn't sure. Before I fell asleep, your parents and I were watching some "Star Trek" show, and when I woke up, I was at your bedroom." Twilight said as she tilted her head subconsciously in confusion before she hit the likely answer. "Did your parents put me here with you?" she asked, Kassie responding with a 'likely' nod before she got up from her bed, making the covers up as Twilight jumped off the girl's bed right before she took the comforter off. "I guess so." Kassie said as she began to walk out the door. In the day she was a dog, Twilight was gaining a liking to this family, though her heart was still in Equestria. For some reason, there was a growing desire, a bond to them. While she doesn't notice it at first, it was there. "Hey, do you know what day it is?" Kassie asked as Twilight tilted her head. "No, I don't." "It's the first of July, it's just a few more days until you can see your first fireworks..." Kassie said as they went down the stairs, with Twilight along with her, though, since she's a child again, it was more like hopping down the stairs. Twilight would be happy to be older again so she can walk up and down the stairs normally. "Wow, I need to read about it later. Don't you think you can help me with it? At least until I'm older, anyway?" Twilight said as she flashed the biggest smile on her face, being careful not to make it too toothy. "Why not, a friend of mine read books to their cat and dog all the time." Kassie replied as they went into the kitchen to acquire breakfast. "Morning, Mom!" Kassie said as her mother turned around with a smile on her face. "Morning, Kassie. Did you and the dog sleep well?" she asked as Kassie nodded. So that's who put her there, not that she's complaining about her relocation. "It's hard to think she's already bonding with us, isn't it?" Kassie nodded in response as she took a bite out of her blueberry pancake. "Good to hear it. Now why not take her for a walk?" "Umm, aren't I a bit young to walk?" Twilight asked. Great, she sounded more like a filly already. "I guess you might have a point, you can get lost easily, and everyone would be looking at you." the Mother said. "But we do have loads of forest behind our house, so you can walk there when you feel confident enough." the Mother said as she put the dishes away after they've been rinsed. "Okay, then." Twilight replied as she went to acquire to some breakfast of her own. "So, where's the others, anyway?" "Mom said Dad took the other two to get some groceries, right after they finished their breakfast." Kassie said as she finished her plate. Shen then got up from her seat as Twilight finished her meal. Just in the nick of time, Daniel, Katie, and the Father walked in with bags full of groceries in their hands. "Hey, Dad. That's a lot of groceries you have there." "I knew, sweetie. The farmer's market had a bit more to offer today." the Father said as he put out a few boxes of food out of one of the bags. "Plus, we needed to get Estrela something as well." One of the things he got was a leash and attached it to Twilight's collar. "It's a perfect fit for her." he said as he unhooked it from the purple dog before going out of the room with the mother. "Do not interrupt us. We'll be in our room napping. Now, you four behave yourselves and... try not to fight." After he went out, only Daniel, Katie, Kassie, and Twilight remained. "So, since we're here together, we should play a game. Does anyone have any suggestions?" Daniel asked. Twilight didn't know of any games found in this world, so her mouth stayed silent for the time being. Though, she was very curious about what they're doing, or what they are going to do. Looking towards Daniel, she eyed the game he was holding, which depicted a well-dressed human in a black suit and top hat, and he seemed to bear a white moustache. "Monopoly? What the heck is that?" Twilight asked as the boy place the box on the table. She was curious, even more so as a puppy, and walked towards the chair, hopping onto the seat, but she knew she couldn't get any higher. "I've been wanting to see you play that game, so could you please let me see it?" the purple pup asked. "You are the curious type, aren't you, Estrela?" Katie said as she walked over to Twilight, lifting her up before getting some books and a pillow to give her a good view. "Thanks, but I'm just watching tonight." Twilight said as she pawed on her pillow, trying to get comfortable. For a few minutes, she was pretty interested, probably a side effect of being a dog, but over time, she was about to jump off when they completed the game, with Daniel as the winner. They then began to switch to another game, this time, Twilight decided to jump off, first to the seat and then to the floor. She began to walk out of the kitchen and went into their living room, going through the lobby before going up the stairs. "Where do you live, guys?" Twilight thought aloud as she another room before jumping onto another leather chair, which was conveniently placed just near a window. She felt her tail instinctually wag as she went to the windowsill. When she went to the top, she saw rows of houses, all two-storied like her masters' household, but there was a few things off. For starters, there weren't many regular oaks or birches. "Pine trees, but they're supposed to be endangered. No one has ever heard of them, but I got to see them in person!" Twilight said before mentally slapping herself. This was another world, for all she knew, conifers were rare, too. The reason they were killed off was because they were immune to the ponies' ability to control plants, and grew on their own without magic. "Perhaps I can read about it." the dog whispered before pouncing off the chair. As she walked out, she wondered what else this world will have.
