> Friendship is Truly Magic > by cooldragon1990 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Beginning > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A.N. I am completely and utterly aware that the Tinkerbell movie is outdated and no billboards would be advertised but it sets up the personality of the character. Tinker Bell herself belongs to the proper trademark as well as My Little Pony. I leave the main character description up to your imagination seeing as how that is the best part. This is sort of a modern opening meaning alot of modern things such as games and other TV shows are mentioned, including a twist on the show itself but occurring later on and not to take away from the enjoyment of the story. When Kyle eventually stumbles upon the Pilot of the show, the introductions of the characters are out of order as to the pilot so please no criticism The sun was out and shining brightly sending its happy light down on the town of Manhattan. It was truly a bright day and everyone should have been happy. Everywhere people had an important destination in mind and rushed to arrive on time. People avoided each other but they did it in silence and in a relatively good mood. Nobody seemed to notice a man walking off to the side. He had his hands in his pockets and had his eyes on the ground. His name was Kyle Grant and though he was 22 years old legally, he looked like he was 15 and constantly got mistaken for being younger. He avoided the people as if they were the plague always dodging in and out as they pelted him with their bodies. He walked the streets, dodged another person and continued on his way. A billboard advertising an outdated DVD release caught his attention and he stopped, making sure that he wasn't in the way of anyone and ultimately pissing people off. A tiny famous fairy grinned back at him. It was an advertisement for her movie. Instantly Kyle grew worried. He always wondered what the movie would be like. Tink herself had always fascinated him, but it was a girl thing and he would be teased mercilessly for being weird. It looked like a musical and he wasn't that much into them. After a quick look around to see if any witnesses had noticed his interest he hurried off. He hurried back to his apartment that he shared with his mother when it was his turn with her and hurried indoors. It had been a long school day and he found it was tiring to go unnoticed in class. His parents thought he was doing well and he wanted it to stay that way. It wasn't like he was a bad student. He did well in his classes; it was the other aspect of college that he suffered in. He wasn't even sure if he would have been on the popular food chain that he liked to visualize to himself, maybe somewhere on the very bottom. Despite not liking musicals, there were a few that managed to catch his interest. He guessed it depended on the frequency of song and entertainment factor. A puddle that had fallen behind in evaporating blocked his access to the apartment and he stopped. He hated the feeling of dirt even messy water after a somewhat traumatizing childhood experience of playing in snow and then freezing a little. He found the feeling of mud anywhere on his body disconcerting and again wondered about it. He sidestepped the offending puddle and continued on his way. He wanted to head up on the computer and watch various TV shows. After an all-day Invader Zim marathon he felt it was time to move onto another show. He liked horror related themes with dramatic music backing them up. He had stumbled across various internet shows and drained his friend's Netflix account with watching the shows that normally middle schoolers would watch. His friend had been kind enough to lend him his Netflix account and he always made sure not to watch embarrassing shows. Said friend had eventually moved to California but allowed him to keep the Netflix as a going away gift. He threw open the door to the apartment when he arrived and sped up the stairs. His mom worked at the local hospital and arrived home at night, often joking that they were night owls for their similar interest in late night activities. Up three flights of stair later, he arrived at the shared apartment. His mother was always picking up stray animals because of her generous and kind nature. They had a hard time convincing the owner of the apartment that they were all well-behaved animals and they would clean up the mess. One cat though, seemed to have multiple personalities because of being sweet and cat-like one moment and then snapping and swiping Kyle's pant leg and hissing. What Kyle did to deserve this bizarre treatment he didn't know. Along with several cats, he owned two dogs. An older arthritic dog that hobbled when she walked and another who snorted like a pig. After dodging the cat with a personality disorder he went up to his room and booted up his computer in the corner. It was times like this that he was both thankful and sad that he had no siblings because of not having to share or worry about trespassers. After typing in the password the main screen popped up. A monumental dragon background with his wings spread outwards and upwards, fire red covered scales with green mixed in and held in its claws was a round orb. He had a fascination with magical creatures of all shapes, sizes and nationalities. To less of an extent unicorns were on the list as he did read The Last Unicorn and later saw the movie, but they were on the list just lower. He typed in Netflix (after checking his email and wondering what game to play, for he went to many sites to play online emulated games since he couldn't afford the latest and greatest of the new consoles. A small amount of anger was sent to the people who grew up with different consoles, forcing him to watch or play retro games) and began to browse various TV shows rejecting a large majority of them. He paused briefly on a show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic instantly recognizing the mystical creatures featured. He had a problem though and it involved the appearance and girly nature of the show. Oh I will be teased for sure! Feeling as if his friend could magically see what he was doing, he hurried to another selection. Eventually growing bored he typed in another site and to his slight surprise found himself on Wikipedia. The concept of friendship had always been hard for him to maintain and what little friends he had been based on them making the first move so-to-speak. He noticed that in fiction, movies, and sometimes even games always center on strong friendships and being able to overcome adversity together. He typed in the show on the search engine and immediately the article on the show appeared. It wasn't what he expected in the slightest. The show had a male following! He read about the break from typical girly elements that the show in the 80s had and had humor and something for everyone in it. It was a musical but all he cared about was the male following. Even if he would get teased mercilessly, there was bound to be someone to stick up for him. He didn't want his friend to know about the girly element of the show so he would have to settle for the anonymous nature of You Tube. The first episode began and he looked around half expecting a tormentor to pop out from under the bed and ridicule him. But no one did. The theme song after the prologue started and he winced slightly but it was soon over. What followed next was not what he was expecting. He laughed with Pinkie Pie, soared with Rainbow Dash, befriended Fluttershy, (he was a little embarrassed at identifying with the timid pony and looked back on similar experiences in his life) he worked amongst Applejack (looking her up found it a little shocking that she was named after an alcoholic beverage) and enjoyed Rarity's classy attitude. When Spike did the hearts floating through the air gag, it was comical and done in a non-cheesy way, at least to him. Twilight he was confused on but figured since it was the pilot they would clean her personality a little. The first episode ended in a cliffhanger with Nightmare Moon as Twilight looked on in fear. Even though it was expected, it still came as a shock and he was left in silence for a little while. Should he continue? It was really good from what he saw so far and it wasn't like what he was expecting. There wasn't anyone around and he could always switch it off if someone did wander in. Though it was still too early for his mother to arrive home. He clicked the next episode on the list and what followed was a minor fall into madness. He soon watched the entire first season, laughing and not wanting to stop. He had a problem but it was pure addiction. The musical numbers weren't cheesy and quite catchy. The 25 episode was a little creepy with Pinkie believing her friends didn't like her after increasingly terrible but slightly humorous excuses. After Spike's "confession" the depressed pony's hair fell flat and she turned a grayish pink. He felt his heart break at her sad confirmation that her friends didn't like her. The next scene was both humorous and creepy and the music added to her slight deranged personality. He frowned mostly during those scenes believing that there had to be a reason for the excuses. Eventually Rainbow Dash intervened and Pinkie though completely wrong had a point as her friends could have "avoided" her without acting so sinister. He cheered when she eventually found out her friends didn't hate her and instead wanted to throw her a surprise party. Other then that the season ended brilliantly. Though he was a creeped out by Fluttershy going into a rage (he didn't count the other times the show hinted at her anger) he found it funny but wouldn't want it to happen again. It was now midnight and he realized he had watched the entire first season in one sitting. The next season began with a two part episode and he read a little about the villain for that episode. That episode and the one following it had a high creep factor rivaling Party of One for a kid show. Though Discord was despicable the music and utter chaos surrounding the episode made him a truly remarkable villain. The altered personalities of the ponies made it worse. 14 episodes and lessons later he was getting tired. He laughed at the antics of Rainbow Dash trying to hide the fact that she liked reading. He read on the comments section various arguments over favorite characters. He didn't know which character was his favorite. He wished he had a quality of each different character and viewed them as having something he didn't. The Cutie Mark Crusaders and their ultimate goal intrigued and disturbed him. To him having a Cutie Mark was knowing ultimately what one wanted to do in life and the fact that Applebloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetebelle didn't have one was sad. He could relate in the way he had no idea what his ultimate special talent was. He hated to leave Equestria and his secret friends that he had made while watching the show. He was no longer worried but wouldn't openly admit his love of the show to someone he didn't know. He read at first that male fans of the show above the targeted demographic were dubbed Bronies among the internet. He wouldn't go crazy with this information. He loved the show deeply and everything it stood for, but he was still nervous about what non-fans would say. He felt it was a perfect place to stop for the night and got up from his chair. Echos of the characters from the show danced around his head and he stumbled a bit. "I must really have a problem if I am hearing character voices in my head. I don't think there is a My Little Pony Anonymous anywhere." Shaking his head he got into bed figuring it would be a new day for watching the rest of the episodes tomorrow. The night passed by slow as images from the show danced into his mind delaying sleep. A light eventually burned into his eyes and he opened them. What he saw, he didn't expect in the slightest. A rainbow maned Pegasus Unicorn was standing in his room, granted it was hollow and distorted but it was shocking enough. Her wings were folded by her side and she was looking at him. "The time to act is coming quick, Equestria needs your help!" He didn't ever remember her speaking like that in the show. What was Celestia doing in his room, let alone in the human world? He was stunned speechless and didn't move. "In a little while, you will experience a grand adventure from your wildest dreams." She was fading, growing fainter and dimmer, but her eyes never left his. "Wait, how is this possible? Why me?" Celestia grinned as she glowed dimmer, "Believe and it will happen! I will see you soon!" She vanished and eerily enough Kyle found himself growing sleepy and unable to keep his eyes open. His head hit the pillow and he knew no more. What happened in this chapter is more or less how I got started in the show, though I read the fanfiction before seeing the show and learned to love the characters I was reading about. Despite Kyle being based on myself, he is not a Mary Sue or any other of similar names. His attitude is based on my first reaction to the show. While I didn't cram as many episodes, I did suffer a similar fate after watching like he did. The inspiration to this story is somewhat personal in short I suffered a minor depression of loneliness and the idea struck me hard. I feel like Kyle that each of the six main characters has something I don't and I truly have only online friends and my one friend in the real world moved, though I don't think it was to California. Later on I will borrow similar elements including a similar legend to Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door. The next chapter will feature the characters we all know and love.
