> At the Gala > by Comrade Bagel Muffin > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Best Night Ever (so far) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rumble walked up and down the train platform. He was thankful for the gentle breeze that blew across the platform. The sun was extremely bight and his black suit wasn't helping him keep his cool, and if ever he needed to keep his cool it was tonight. He looked down the train line, as the sound of the whistle heralded the coming of the train, and it's passengers. He gulped. He felt his heart racing in his chest when he saw the train coming in. It felt like he had just flown in from Ponyville. He quickly wiped the sweat from his brow and got ready to greet his date for the Gala. He toyed with the small box in his pocket that had cost him nearly half a years wage. The whistle blared one last time, he snapped back to reality, before steam hissed out. The the doors opened, and dozens of ponies in fine suits and dresses trotted out of the carts. Rumble's eyes scanned through the crowd looking for any of the three ponies that he was looking for. "Hey Rumble over here." His ears perked up at the sound of his marefriend. He looked to the right side of the train platform. trotting through the crowd. He could have sworn that he heard her from over here. "Rumble. Come on." He turned his head to the voice. "Excuse me." He walked past several ponies. "Scootaloo?" He looked around. Suddenly he felt a pony tackle into his side before two hooves were put in front of his eyes. "Guess who?" A young mare asked with a little giggle. "Hm." He put his hoof to his chin. "I know it's a mare." "Right." "Her voice is the most beautiful thing in all Equestiria." "I'm not Sweetie Belle." "Scootaloo, you know that your voice is the most beautiful to me." He took her hooves off from around his eyes and spun her around catching her in his other hoof. Standing on his hindlegs. He dipped her down and gave her a small kiss on her forehead. She leaned up and kissed him on the lips. She pulled back with a smile and a small blush to match the red cheeks of her stallionfriend. "Aw, that's cute." Rainbow Dash said with a smile walking up to the young couple, a wing around Quibble to keep him calm. "Come you two love birds let's go get something to eat. Wouldn't that be good Quibble?" She asked. "Cause I'm starving." She said before Quibble could speak up. She hurried up and walk past the two of them before her husband could say anything. "Come on." Scootaloo giggled and rolled out of his hoof back to her hooves. "I'm kinda hungry too." She nuzzled him. "Yeah I figured you would be after the train ride so I went ahead and got us reservations at the The Tasty Treat." Rumble trotted back up to his marefriend's side. "Thank you Rumble, but you didn't have to do that." Quibble said as his daughter and her stallionfriend caught back up to him and his wife. "It's fine sir they were more than happy to have another Element of Harmony to eat there. I practically had to fight them to pay for the reservation. You guys are still super famous, isn't that cool captain?" "Rumble come on it's just Rainbow or Rainbow Dash , when we're not in uniform." "Thank you ma'am." Rumble smiled heading down the street next to his fillyfriend. The string quartet brought the waltz to a close Rumble held Scootaloo close for the last couple of magical moments before they separated, and moved off the dace floor. The Gala had been in full swing for several hours, and this was the first time that the young couple was moving off the dance floor. They both sat down at a table catching their breath. "That, that was fun, I never thought all that fancy dancing counted as a work out but woah." Scootaloo sighed as she sat down at a table. Rumble sat down next to her for a second seeming to fumble over something. "Hey Rumble are you okay? Something on your mind?" She asked spotting him playing with something in his pocket. "Yeah kind of Uhm. But I don't think this is the best place to talk about it. Want something to drink?" He asked getting up. "Yeah sure, oh wait what time is it, Sweetie's doing her solo at midnight." Rumble paused looking at his watch. "We've still got 20 minutes. I'll be right back." Scootaloo watched him head off to get them drinks, a little later he came back with two glasses of wine. "To the best night ever." "To the best night ever so far." She smiled tapping her glass against his. They both slowly drank the red nectar. "Come on let's go get into the gardens that's were Sweetie's doing her solo I don't want to miss it." Rumble nodded and the two headed to the palace garden hoof in hoof. Scootaloo and Rumble moved up to the very front to their reserved seats in the front row. Sweetie moved out with Vinyl Scratch giving her a soft series of sounds. They watched with the hundreds of ponies in rapt attention. Rumble looked over to Scootaloo who held her attention at Sweetie Belle and her song. When their friend finished Rumble tapped his date's shoulder. "Hey Scootaloo, would you uhm, would you like to go on a walk with me through the garden?" he asked. "Sure." Scootaloo followed him off down the small paths in the palace garden. After several minutes they were completely alone. "So, nobodies' around Rumble is here the best place to say what's on your mind?" "Yeah." He paused abruptly and spun around taking Scootaloo by surprise. "Scootaloo we've been going out for years, we've been apart to always come back together. What say it. Well." He got down. "Scoots' would you be my wife, and take me as your husband?" He pulled out the little box and opened it. He held his breath through the pause, then looked up as the paused lingered. He saw her crying. She wasn't a crier, he'd only seen this twice and neither was a good time. "I'm sorry I uhm. Nev-" "YES!" She tackled him to the ground. "YES! YES YES!" She nuzzled him. "This is the best night ever." "No, just the best night ever so far." He kissed her cheek nuzzling her back.
