Believe what you read

A fantasy character in a fantasy setting doesn't believe in a fantasy book

Fantasy stories are fun. They allow us to read into far off lands and learn about magic and myths. It's also important to know to distinguish truth from fiction.

But in the world of Equestria, no magic is off limits, and starlight is about to learn how reading can be hazardous

Talking spells

Starlight sat in the reading area of the castle, looking over the book that twilight had given her. Ever since she had reconnected with sunset, the two have been exchanging books from various authors to read. This one in particular being “Harry Potter.” as she continued to read, she felt more and more unapproved of the use of magic within.

“These humans have such weird work with their literature. Verbal spells, used through wands? Even sunset and her friends don't need to say what they're going to do or use artifacts to wield magic. Though, some of these spells do seem practical for use here in ponyville.”

The thought made her way into starlights mind, and she placed the book back into the pile of stories that twilight had received. She was feeling a bit hungry, since she had binged the reading all night to finish the books. After all, twilight was only renting them from sunset. Standing in the middle of the room, she stood up proud and extended her hoof out.

Acio muffin!” Starlights horn briefly flashed with magic, startling the unicorn. She quickly looked around, seeing if anything would happen. After about thirty seconds, she relaxed again and huffed.

“Must have been a fluke or something. Although I didn't expect my horn to react like that. I wonder?” with that thought in mind, starlight made her way down the hall and to a separate room in the castle. As she did so, she didn't hear the sound of a certain pegasus yelling out as she flew into the wall of the crystal castle.

“Why does the universe curse me so?” Derpy exclaimed, as she slid down the wall of the castle.

Starlight made her way through the castle, to one of it's many rooms. Inside she found twilight's storage of spare clothes. Each outfit was placed onto a mannequin for display. Everything from dresses to horseshoes to swimsuits. Despite rarities protests to have her make new outfits for twilight, she still kept a majority of them and stored them here for later use.

She made her way to the back and found a rather old set of clothes. It was an early dress that rarity had made for her, but since ascending to an alicorn, she couldn't wear it anymore. Starlight figured it wouldn't be a big deal if she tried her theory on this one. She cleared her throat and stood in front of the mannequin.

Sectumsempra” starlights horn briefly flashed, and a bolt of energy flew out of it. Starlight jumped in surprise, and quickly hit the floor to avoid the recoil. It bounced around the room a few times, then flew out of the room through a skylight.

“Alright. Guess those spells really DO have some merrit to them. I need to do some feild research to see how well these can work. Prefrebly, outside.” starlight made her way out of the small room and headed out for the town.

Outside, a certain white unicorn was practicing the saxophone, when a magic bolt came out and sliced the sax in half.

“Aww buck, can't a pony practice her secret past time without somepony being a hipocrite?” Vinyl levitated the broken peices of the saxophone into the case nearby and stood up, making her way towards town. “Ohh well, good thing it was a rental. I hope the company I rented this from covers spells.”

Starlight sat outside sugarcube corner, mindlessly eating on a muffin. Her findings were bouncing around in her mind, giving her strange ideas and mixed feelings. On one hoof, the findings had been quite promising, the two spells she tried had both worked. On the other, they were still verbal spells, and it wasn't like she really would use them enough to need the spells.

She continued to eat on the muffin she had, thinking about what she could do with these new spells. Granted, only a few of them are really needed or wanted to be more advance then the spells she could cast normally. In fact, she ought to see if the most crucial spell could be worthwhile for the ponies here to learn.

Starlight glanced around the area, looking for a potential target to try the spell on. Glancing around, she found a few scattered ponies here and there, but nothing that could make a potential target. Eventually, she settled on a yellow earth pony and a green unicorn sitting at a table nearby talking. She got up from her seat, aimed her horn, and began the spell.

“Lyra, for the hundreth time, hasbro isn't going to do a power rangers crossover in MLP. Not as a reference, not as a story, and most CERTAINLY not as a game crossover.”

“Come on bon bon, with hasbro buying the power rangers license, they could TOTALLY make a crossover with us in it! The bronies have been wanting a game for YEARS, and with so many good fangames out, they could make a crossover and it would be cool!”

“Sure, and fallout Equestria will get a cameo appearance in the TV show. You're getting your hopes up for nothing. In fact I doubt they'll even…”

Avada cadebra!!”

“Did you hear something Lyra?” before the unicorn could respond, a flash of green light appeared to the side of their vision, and bon bon was struck down by it, falling out of her chair and collapsing to the ground. Lyra quickly got up and rushed to her side, cradling the pony in her hoofs.

“Bon bon, are you ok? Please, say something, anything! No, no NOO!!” The unicorn quickly used her magic and summoned a blade, which she brought to her neck.

“My only regret, is not being able to see what gen five has in store for the series!” With that, she plunged the knife into her throat and layed still beside the other pony. The commotion lead to a panick around the area, as ponies screamed and ran around at the sight of two ponies suddenly collapsing to the ground and dying. As the medical ponies arrived, starlight shuffled away, with a nervous smile on her face as she made her way back to the castle.

“I think I'll stick to non fiction for now on.” Starlight entered the castle, heading to her room till the commotion died down. Picking up one her history books and began to read.
