The two princesses of Equestria fall into a war with each other. Who knew that once they loved each other so dearly no longer than 500 years ago

Once Equestria was under the rule of two princesses, Princess Sunset Shimmer and Princess Twilight Sparkle. If one said the two loved each other no longer than five-hundred years ago, one would say that they were insane.

As of now, Equestria is split in two and at war. One side is led by Princess Twilight Sparkle, and the other being lead by none other than Princess Sunset Shimmer.

Once upon a time, there was a unicorn. A unicorn that was the princess’s personal student, the princess loved this unicorn with all her heart. One day, the princess decided to show her student a mirror which predicted somepony's greatest desires, wishes, but most of all, their fate.

When this unicorn looked in the mirror she saw a strong prideful alicorn stand before her. This drove the unicorn into such arrogant pride that she defied the princess claiming to be her equal. The princess tried to stop the unicorn from going down a path she would not return from, but this action was in vain.

With anger and fury overriding her, the unicorn assaulted the princess in a failed attempt as she was taken away by the guards.

The unicorn escaped, however. Attacking the guards and running off to the room with the mirror. The pony walked through the mirror never bothering to look back.

Many, many moons later, the former student of the princess came back with anger and revenge still driving her.

She snuck into the castle from the mirror and stole a precious crown which was claimed by the new princess who had just recently been crowned. She grew envious, jealous, she thought that the newly crowned princess did not deserve her crown. It was her who was supposed to be the new princess, not some lowlife, she thought.

Her attempt at leaving quietly was in vain as the princess’s assistant made the unicorn trip, alerting the princess of the intruder.

After chasing the thief, they both ended up in a world where their bodies stood on two legs and life is different from what it was in Equestria.

The princess struggled at first but within the span of a few days, she rekindled a group of lost friendships and made a group of friends who helped her try and achieve what was hers.

The unicorn was successful in obtaining her objective. As the crown laid on her head, it transformed the unicorn into something she would have never of imagined.

What the unicorn didn't know, though, was that the princess's friends and herself held the true power to stop the unicorn in her wake.

As a blast of energy washed over the unicorn, her form was turned back to normal. But to the princess’ surprise the unicorn wished to change and with that, the princess ordered the unicorn to stay in this world until she knew the true meaning of friendship; leaving the unicorn with the princess’ new friends, the group were sceptical at first but when they realised that the unicorn really wanted to change they accepted her into their group.

Months later the unicorn was granted permission to come back, where both the unicorn and her ex-mentor made their amends and the unicorn lived amongst the princess. Not as an enemy, but as a friend.

Many years had passed, the two mares' friendship was as strong as ever, but the unicorn was stuck. She felt as if something was wrong with her, she didn't understand what it was, there was a feeling towards the princess that she never felt before; it was love.

The unicorn hid away from her friends for a long time but the princess had enough of her friend's hiding and asked her what was wrong.

But with that, the unicorn lashed out; hurting the princess in the process. This only made the unicorn run away.

The princess searched for days for her friend but to no avail, she came back home but never gave up her search.

The unicorn came back, unbeknown of the terrors that were following her.

The unicorn apologised and the princess accepted her apology, that is when the unicorn confessed her secret.

Very much to her surprise, the princess felt the same. But before they could say anything about the matter, the village was attacked by terrors they were not expecting.

The monster was large, the village was burning as ponies ran. But the princess was unable to defeat it. A fireball of death and despair was aimed at the alicorn, but before it hit, her newly beloved jumped in front of it, preventing it from hurting the princess.

With all the power the unicorn could muster, she overpowered the monster destroying it in the process.

Everything went white for the unicorn, bewildering her.
The same mentor and princess she knew all those years ago, that she treated so badly, came down to her and told her all she has become, and all she has accomplished.

As their conversation surpassed, she travelled in an orb to the ground of the lands. To her and her beloved's utmost surprise, she had grown wings; the very thing she had wanted at the beginning but, over the years, didn't want such things anymore.

And with that, the newly found alicorn was named princess. She and her beloved lived happily ever after, living amongst the ponies that loved the two princesses' with all their hearts.

"The end," Twilight smiled to the younger ponies, "did you like the story?"

A cluster of small nods and yeah's was the reply she got.

"I found it boring. We're in the first year now, where's the complex things?" A small dark blue unicorn with black hair and golden eyes blurted out.

This made Twilight's smile widen, just slightly, as this young colt reminded her of herself from many years ago.

Time sure does fly...

A forest green unicorn filly spoke up next, "I for one, found it interesting, whatever happened to the two princesses?"

This made the princess's smile falter ever so slightly, "Oh..." She paused. "Well, it is said they still live happily to this day. But not really as they hoped, as they both had to part ways to pursue different...matters." This was the closest Twilight could put it without revealing who the princesses were; Which was Twilight and...Sunset.

The thought of Sunset deepened her mood, she wished things were different. If it wasn't for what happened almost four-hundred and fifty years ago, the land of Equestria would still be in one piece.

There was a slight shake on the princess's front hoof. "Princess?"

This snapped the alicorn out of her visible phase. "Oh, I'm sorry." She forced a fake smile, this was easy as six-hundred years of putting on the same fake smile made it more and more harder for ponies to notice.

"Now then," she stood up, "I shall go now, as I have other duties to attend to. If you wish for a book, ask the lovely librarian at the counter."

Ponies bowed their heads and she bowed hers slightly in return, then proceeded to exit the building.

It's been hundreds of years and I'm still not used to other ponies using such courtesy to me.

With that, she left the Canterlot library and headed for the castle.
