Trixie sighed a little as she adjusted her hat as she looked around the foyer of the Castle of Friendship. It was New Years Eve and everypony was talking and celebrating, everypony but her at least.

None of them seemed that interested in talking with right now as she made her way around the room. Not that it mattered, she didn’t really know any of these ponies that well, except maybe Twilight, but she still wasn’t all that comfortable around her yet.

So she was mostly just wandering around the room looking for anypony who would want to talk to her or she would want to talk to. Maybe if she could find Starlight, where was Starlight anyway?

She walked around the foyer looking for, occasionally she stopped to ask ponies if they had seen her but they just shrugged and said no. Finally, she spotted a familiar purple and blue-green tail retreating through a door off to the side and she blinked a little in surprise.

“Where is she going?” Trixie wondered to herself as she headed for the door and opened it up as she followed after the retreating Unicorn mare.

“Starlight?” She called out as she headed down the hallway and looked around for her friend. “Hello?”

Having heard her name called by a familiar voice, she stopped and turned around, Starlight giving a sigh before she called back “Trixie? I’m in here..” Having ducked into a room when she thought she heard hoofsteps behind her.

“Is everything alright Starlight? Trixie thought you would be back at the party,” Trixie said as she trotted over to the room where Starlight was.

“Yeah, Parties still really aren’t my forte” Starlight said with a soft sigh. “I’ve been here a while, but, most of the ponies out there don’t know me, and, I worry if any of them could remember my past.”

“Trixie… I understand what you mean,” Trixie said with a sigh as she looked down at her hooves. “I was hoping I’d find somepony who I could talk to, so I was looking for you.”

“I don’t know why Twilight throws these parties and invites me to them, I think she still wants me to make other friends” Starlight said, giving her head a shake. “I think she still doesn’t trust you.”
“I’ve noticed,” Trixie said with a sigh before she gave Starlight a smile. “Still, I’m glad I have one friend here. Your friendship means a lot to me, I, just wanted to tell you that.”

“The same for you, You know, through these past couple of years we’ve really gone through alot of ups and downs, and you stuck with me through it all…” Starlight says with a little smile “I’m really happy that I have a friend like you.”

Trixie smiled and gave Starlight a light hug. “Of course, I would never want to lose you as a friend. I’d follow you to the ends of Equestria if I had to, you’re the best friend I’ve ever had and I’m happy I have you too.”

“Yeah, I think I would too.” Starlight said, giving a soft hug in return. “Things just, have been really crazy through the years, with the changelings and everything, I really do know if I was ready to graduate like Twilight thought I was.”

“Starlight, you’re one of the most amazing and wonderful ponies I’ve ever met,” Trixie said with a smile. “I believe in you and that you can do anything you put your mind to. Maybe you still have some things to learn, I know that I do, but I think if she really thought you were ready, then maybe you were ready. If, you ever need anything, just know that I’ll be there for you no matter what.”

“Thanks, really it means alot, and the same for you Trixie.” Starlight said, smile growing some. “You’re really an amazing pony, I don’t know why you don’t have more friends.”

Trixie sighed a little and shook her head. “I wish that I could, but, I’ve never been very good at letting ponies get close to me. You were the first friend I ever really had because of that, and you were willing to look past my outer shell. I guess, I’ve just never been good at letting that down around anypony else, especially in this town after everything that’s happened before.”

“Yeah, I guess. I mean, we both have had very checked and shaky pasts.” Starlight said with a smile before offering a hoof to Trixie “But, You were my first friend, after everything that happened, and even with that rough start, I don’t think I could ever stand not being your friend anymore, you really mean a lot to me.”

“I…” Trixie said and shook her head a moment before she smiled. “I feel the same way about you Starlight. The day I met you was the happiest day of my life, even if it was rocky, because it gave me the best friend I could ever ask for. I just wish that Twilight would understand that better.”

“Yeah, I feel the same way.” Starlight said with a soft sigh before smiling “I really don’t know if I’d ever want any pony else by my side, than you”

“I feel the same,” Trixie replied and took a deep breath and smiled a little. “You’ve helped me a lot since I met you. I know I don’t always show it the right way, but I…”

She let that trail off for a moment as if she was trying to figure out what to say. She turned her head away from Starlight as she tried not to blush. She wasn’t sure what she was going to say to Starlight, how she might tell her the truth.

“I’m just really glad I met you,” she finally said and turned to look at Starlight with a smile.

“I am too, Even if you only wanted to be my friend at first to get back at Twilight.” Starlight said with a teasing nudge.

“I’m sorry for that by the way, but you’re my friend now because I want to be your friend,” Trixie said with a smile. “I’m glad you gave me a second chance.”

“Oh I know you were just caught up in the moment, We covered that ages ago.” Starlight said with a bit of a laugh before giving Trixie a light hug. “Really though, I’d probably give you a lot more chances, you really are something special to me.”

Trixie smiled and hugged her back. “You’re something special to me too, something very special.”

“How special, would you say?” Starlight said with a curious smile.

“Very, very special, you are the most special thing in Equestria to me,” Trixie said as a blush started to creep up over her face. “I’m, umm… you’re… umm…”

“You trying to say something Trix?” Starlight said, smiling even brighter and a bit of a blush coming up over her face.

“Very special, I mean… umm…” she said and shook her head and spoke so rapidly Starlight almost missed what she said. “Doyouwanttomaybebemorethanjustfriends?”

She covered her mouth with her hoof and blushed even more. “Did I just say that out loud?”

“I do believe you did, and.. If I caught that, you want to be… more than just friends?” Starlight blushed a bit more deeply and smiled “And, if you mean it.. I’d love to.”

Trixie blushed even more before she smiled broadly and finally settled down a little. “I meant every word. I’ve, had feelings for you for awhile now Starlight, and I’ve just, never really known how to tell you.”

“I’ll admit, I’ve always had feelings for you too, but… never really thought you were into that kind of thing, you never really struck me as the kind to date another mare.” Starlight said with a smile “Then again, I didn’t really think I was one either, until I met you.”

“I didn’t know it until I met you, you are everything I could ever love in a mare,” Trixie said with a smile. “You’re smart, beautiful, kind and you like me for who I am and can see past the pony everypony else sees. I couldn’t ask for a better best friend, or a better special somepony.”

“I could definitely say the same to you, we’ve both done some nasty things in our pasts, but you’ve seen past my mistakes and stood with me through some of the darker times, and, I really couldn’t think of any pony more deserving” Starlight said with a soft happy sigh.

Trixie leaned forward and kissed Starlight lightly on the cheek. “I’m just glad I finally told you, I’m just sorry it took me so long.”

“It’s fine, It was definitely worth waiting for, so uh. Maybe we should stop hiding in a closet and maybe, go and join our friends at the party?” Starlight said with a chuckle. “Maybe reveal to them our little decision.”

“Twilight’s not going to like that,” Trixie said and chuckled lightly before she added jokingly. “Excellent, Trixie’s revenge will finally be complete.”

“What if this is my vengeance against you for using me all those years ago?” Starlight said with a chuckle.

“Then Trixie will be very sad because she does love Starlight very much,” Trixie said with a laugh as she nuzzled Starlight gently. “But I do love you and would never use you like that again.”

“You didn’t really use me like that to begin with, You were just kind of getting wound up in the moment.” Starlight chuckled and gave Trixie a nudge. “Or are you admitting something more?”

“No, no, I just meant what happened when we first met,” Trixie said with a shake of her head. “I, would love for others to know about us though. I would tell all of Equestria if I could, I love you that much and I don’t care who knows or what they think of me.”

“Well, you do a lot of traveling around with your magic act, technically you could tell equestria, in due time” Starlight giggled some.

Trixie laughed at that and nodded before putting on her stage voice for a moment. “Equestria, dear audience, the great and powerful Trixie wants to announce that she is deeply in love with the amazing and beautiful Starlight Glimmer! Trixie is sure that this will break a lot of your hearts, but she still loves Starlight more than anything in Equestria and wants the whole world to know!”

“Oh no, Trixie the heartthrob, breaking the hearts of all the young colts and fillies all across equestria” Starlight said with a laugh.

Trixie laughed and looked out at the night sky for a moment and then back at the clock. “You know, it’s almost midnight… there is an old Lulamoon family tradition to kiss the pony you love on midnight on New Years Eve.”

“Oh? I’ve never heard of that tradition.” Starlight said with a smirk. “You sure you didn’t just make that up?”

“Maybe I did, maybe I just made it up as an excuse to kiss the most beautiful mare in Equestria,” Trixie said with a smirk. “If it’s not, maybe we should make it a tradition.”

“Well then, why don’t we?” Starlight said as she moved to the door. “Anyway, we should get to the party before it’s too late.”

Trixie smiled and walked past Starlight, swishing her tail a little and giving her a smile. “Yes, let’s get going.”

A year later Starlight and Trixie were snuggling together under a blanket just outside of Trixie’s traveling wagon. They were waiting for the new years fireworks show to begin and Trixie smiled a little as she looked over at her marefriend.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been a whole year huh?” She asked with a smile.
“Yeah, I was just thinking that myself.” Starlight said with a happy sigh. “This year has really blown past, hasn’t it?”

“Yeah, it really has…” Trixie said and nuzzled Starlight gently. “And I can’t think of a pony I would rather have spent the past year with. At least Twilight came around, eventually…”

“Well, she had to come around eventually, I mean, we really needed a new kitchen table anyway.” Starlight said with a chuckle and a nudge.

Trixie chuckled too and nuzzled Starlight gently. “I’m just glad that I’m spending tonight with you. I would love to spend every day for the rest of my life with you like this.”

“Maybe we will, who knows what tomorrow holds, well, I could - but Twilight banned me from using time travel magic ever again.” Starlight said giving a soft giggle.

Trixie smiled and pulled her in close. “I don’t need to travel into the future to know that I love you. And maybe, just maybe, there is a way to see the future, sort of,” she said and gave Starlight a wink.

“What do you mean? Twilight doesn’t like it if I do risky things like using untold magical spells, so hopefully you don’t mean that.” Starlight said with a nervous chuckle.

“No, I mean something else,” Trixie said with a smile as she looked up at the sky as the fireworks started and the clock tower in the town started to chime. She started rummaging around and frowned a little. “Oh come on… where did it go?”

“Where did what go? Don’t tell me you got me a gift, I don’t have one for you” Starlight said with a bit of a pout as she watched Trixie rummaging around.

“Its fine… its a, special present… I just have to find it… I put it in here somewhere…” Trixie said and groaned at her own inability to find it. “I saved up for months from shows to get this, darn it if I lost it…”

“Trixie, did you by any chance, mean this?” Starlight said, horn lighting and a small black velvet covered box levitated out from behind her. “I found it the other day, and thought I could surprise you with something.”

Trixie let out a sigh of relief. “Yeah, that’s it. I, wanted it to be a surprise, sorry. Did, you open it up already?”
Starlight smiled and nodded “I may have, but… for a good reason” She said before she knelt down and levitated up the box, cracking it open to reveal an entirely different ring within its confines. “See… I wanted to ask you something, and I thought this might be a good way to do it.”

Trixie’s eyes went wide and then she smiled broadly and looked at her marefriend with shocked look on her face. “Starlight… I… umm, wanted to… ask, you… something, and… ummm… uhh…”

“Why don’t we ask each other our question at the same time, does that sound like a good idea to you?” Starlight said with a soft smile. “That way we don’t have to be all awkward about it.”

“Okay, let’s do that,” Trixie said as she smiled at her. “I’m ready whenever you are.”

“Alright then, on the count of three, alright?” Starlight said before taking Trixie by the hoof and smiling as she looked into her eyes. “3…” She paused, taking a deep breath. “2…” another pause, with a nervous smile, hoping she had read the signs right. “1” she felt like she was about to faint, but she kept herself as strong as she could.

“Will you marry me?” The two mares said in unison as they looked at each others eyes deeply, They both blushed deeply before together once more, this time their reply, together quickly saying ‘Yes’ before embracing each other.

Trixie smiled and nuzzled Starlight gently. “I guess we both had the same idea… not that I’m complaining. I love you Starlight Glimmer.”

“I love you too, Trixie Lulamoon.” Starlight giggled some and nudged Trixie “Or maybe should we say, Trixie Glimmer?” She knew ponies didn’t do that, but she felt it was funny nonetheless.

“Mmm, I don’t know I think Starlight Lulamoon sounds better,” Trixie said with a giggle as she kissed Starlight’s nose.

“Yeah, luckily neither of us are Earth ponies and follow weird naming conventions like that.” Starlight said before returning that kiss.

Trixie chuckled a little and snuggled with her fiance. “Mmm, the show is over, how about we go into my wagon and make some…”

“Let’s not be too hasty, We just got engaged, don’t you want to save some of the excitement?” Starlight said with a wink and a teasing smirk.

“Awww,” Trixie said and giggled as she leaned in and kissed Starlight. “Still, you’ve made me the happiest mare in Equestria tonight. I love you so much.”

“There are no words to describe how happy you’ve made me Trixie, and I can’t wait to see what the years ahead hold for us, who knows, maybe you’ll find a protege all your own to teach your magic tricks to” Starlight said with a bit of a smile.

Trixie smiled a little and closed her eyes. “I’d like that, maybe someday I’ll get the chance. Do, you think I’d be a good teacher?”

“I think, when the time comes, you will be the teacher that pony needs you to be.” Starlight said. “Much like Twilight knew how to help me, and make me into the pony I am now, You will know what is best, and how to help any pony who wishes to learn your trade.”

“I hope you’re right,” Trixie said with a soft smile before she closed her eyes. “Thanks Starlight, that means a lot to me.”

“Well, what are fiancé for?” Starlight said with a giggle before relaxing with Trixie, just staring up into the night sky.
