Prologue
It was a snowy night in Canterlot, and a mare had just given birth to twin unicorns. At first, they were beautiful. Yet as the sun rose, and the unicorn mother saw them, she realized with great sadness, that she could never keep them as her own. The twins would be a scourge to her public image. The smaller one was a grayish blue, with unruly orange hair. Not bad, but the other one... orangey coat, green hair... he seemed to be much taller, and his ears stuck out like an elephant's. It wasn't as if they were ugly, just there was no hope of these foals ever fitting in, in such a high-class society. Why, the blue one even had signs of buck teeth!
But then the pink-maned mare thought harder. They were hers, after all, she had to try and love them. But with her current occupation, how could she raise them normally? She thought harder. No, the picture didn't fit. Not at all.
Inside a small, white painted building, the door opened, without anyone noticing.
"Yes, ma'am. We do adoptions here, after all, this is the Canterlot Adoptions Centre." a male unicorn replied to a customer's question. The customer looked content and trotted away. All of a sudden, there was a large crash! He jumped and looked behind. It had only been an unused crate. However, when he turned back to the counter, there was a small basket, covered with a blanket. That wasn't there before... he thought. Lifting up the blanket from the wicker basket, he noticed that it moved a little.
He gasped when he saw the contents inside. Two newborn unicorn foals, sleeping snuggled against each other.
Who in Equestria would abandon their own children, at such a young age?
