Princess Twilight Sparkle tossed and turned, groaning angrily at herself. She had been trying to get to sleep for hours, now, but to no avail. She groaned once again, before pulling the covers off of herself and sitting up on the bed. Maybe she should just look out at the balcony for a while. Nodding at the idea, she trotted out of her room and down the corridor.

Meanwhile, Princess Luna was sitting at the balcony, gazing up at her stars. Suddenly, she heard hoofsteps from behind her. Her head turned, and she saw Twilight Sparkle turn a corner. Her expression said that she clearly wasn't expecting to see her there.

"Come. Sit next to me Twilight."

Twilight nodded and hesitantly made her way towards Luna. She looked up at the stars with the blue princess beside her.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Luna queried her purple friend beside her

"Yeah... it is..." Twilight responded.

Twilight couldn't help but wonder why the Princess Luna was out here on the balcony instead of in her castle. As if almost on queue, Luna spoke.

"You're wondering why I'm out here, aren't you?" She chuckled

Twilight merely nodded and averted her gaze to the ground, a light blush on her muzzle. Luna let out a small chuckle again.

"Sometimes I come out here anyway. It's... a beautiful view from here. You can see the stars so clearly, so... sometimes I come here." Luna said "I'm a pansy, really."

Twilight laughed lightly next to her friend.

"I think we all can get a bit sappy at times, Luna... I can, too..."

Luna simply nodded and they both gazed at the stars above them in silence. It wasn't an awkward silence, though. It was more of a peaceful silence. A silence that they both didn't mind. It made them both feel peaceful. So the two ponies stayed there for a few minutes. Or maybe hours. Neither of them cared.

It wasn't long, however, until Twilight started to shiver slightly. Luna averted her eyes over the purple pony beside her. She smiled.

"Getting cold, Twilight?" Luna queried

"Yeah, a little..."

Without warning, Twilight felt a soft wing wrap around her, and gently pull her towards Luna. Twilight didn't resist, however, and simply responded by nuzzling into the side of the princess, accepting the warmth that her body gave. Twilight heard Luna let out a small giggle beside her.

Once again, the silence came, enveloping them both in it's peacefulness. Twilight found herself almost craving the warmth that Luna's body gave, and she nuzzled even deeper into her than before. No words were exchanged in that moment as Twilight nuzzled deeper. Luna simply responded by sighing softly and hugging her tighter into her side.

"It looks like the stars aren't the only thing that are looking beautiful tonight, Twilight." Luna commented

It taken her all of her will power and strength to get out that phrase without stuttering or tripping over her words. Luna had looked down at Twilight in that moment to study her reaction, and she had noted that there was a bright blush appearing on her muzzle.

"T-thank you, Luna, I... you are, too..." Twilight said, returning the compliment, causing the already beet-red pony to turn an even darker shade of red.

Luna had quietly sighed a sigh of relief. She decided to take it a step further.

She leant her head slowly down to meet the top of twilights, and rested her head there, sighing gently.

"Twilight, I..." Luna hesitated for a few seconds, before continuing, trying to keep her composure "I need to tell you something..."

As Luna had slowly raised her head off of her friend, Twilight had looked up at Luna, offering a puzzled and confused look. Twilight had found herself asking if she had done something wrong?

"Oh, come on Twilight, think... what would you have done wrong?" Twilight thought to herself "Did I sort out the library? Yes, I did. What else did I do...?"

Twilight heard a chuckle beside her, before Luna spoke.

"It's nothing you did, Twilight, don't worry." she said

Twilight sighed a breath of relief, but then she spoke up.

"So... what did you want to ask me, Luna...?"

Luna averted her gaze from the purple alicorn beside her to the concrete ground. She took a deep breath.

"Would you ever... go out with a mare, Twilight?"

"I, uh... wow... I don't think... I..." Twilight stuttered, caught off guard by the sudden question. "I mean... maybe? I've... never really though about it..."

Luna concluded that Twilight was telling the truth. She had never been one for relationships other shenanigans. She mostly just spent time with her friends and wrapped in some sort of book, so she was not really surprised that Twilight had answered the way she had. Luna sighed, realizing now that she had little to no chance with Twilight. She wasn't interested in a relationship, right?

"On the subject of relationships... I... wouldn't mind one, now, to be honest... I think it's about time I got settled down with a stallion... or a... m-mare..."

Luna would've done a victory dance if it wasn't for Twilight being there. It was now or never. Luna leaned down to face Twilight. She stopped herself. What if Twilight hated her for this? What if she stopped being her friend? What if she didn't even want to know her anymore...?

"Um... L-Luna, what are you doing?"

There was no time for hesitation. Luna leaned forward and pressed their lips together. For a moment, Twilight did not kiss back, simply shocked from the unexpectedness of the situation. Slowly but surely, though, she slowly kissed back. This moment when on for a few minutes, before Luna slowly parted for air. Panting, she smiled at Twilight.

"Twilight, I... I'm sorry.. I shouldn't have done that.." Luna apologised.

"No, I... I really enjoyed it, a-actually."

Luna simply smiled at Twilight, and embraced her into a warm and loving hug.

"Twilight Sparkle, I love you."

"I love you, too, Luna."
