> Twilight is Immortal > by Sylpheed Dashstep > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Chapter in Which Twilight is Immortal > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight had done the research. She had looked at all the facts and examined every facet of this issue. She had come to a conclusion after weeks of researching and testing. She stepped back from the whiteboard in front of her, looking to the audience behind her. “And after all of this, I’ve found out that I’m immortal,” she spoke to her captivated audience. The room was quiet. Twilight waited for someone to speak up with a question or...anything really. It was Rainbow who spoke first, “So, how’d this come up in the first place?” Twilight frowned, “I literally just spent half an hour explaining this to all of you.” She looked at the faces of all her friends gathered around the crystal table. She saw a myriad of faces all echoing the question Rainbow Dash had asked. “Did none of you pay attention?” Applejack spoke up first, “Well, ya didn’t exactly make it easy to sit here and listen to ya for a solid thirty minutes. ah’ll admit that ah dozed off a few times and may have missed the point of gathering us all here.” Pinkie gave Twilight a smile and said, “But, now that you’ve explained it like this to us, I can throw you a ‘So Happy You’re Immortal’ party.” There was a murmur of agreement from the ponies in front of Twilight, which was broken by a cough from Starlight, who spoke up, “So, back to Rainbow Dash’s question  how exactly did this come up? Like, how did you just suddenly discover that you’re immortal?” “Well, one day I was just sitting here reading this really gut wrenching story and someone was killed and I was really upset and then I started thinking of what would happen if Celestia or Luna were to meet an unfortunate end. Then I realized that they’re kinda immortal and all that. Then that lead to me thinking about Cadence and Flurry Heart. And somehow that got me to ‘I’m immortal!’” Twilight finished with an excited flair. “So, thoughts?” “Thoughts on what, darling,” Rarity asked. “Thoughts on the fact that you’ve only just discovered that you’re immortal? That took you a while. Thoughts on the fact that you’re immortal? I think that it’ll make for many a romantic story. Fluttershy peeked her head out from the group and said, “I think it’s interesting Twilight. Maybe you and Spike can work together to fix our reputation with the dragons when he grows big enough.” “That’s what you’re thinking about, Fluttershy,” Rainbow Dash exclaimed, “think of all the awesome things that Twi can finally do now that she doesn’t have to worry about dying! Triple Aerial Loops, Gargantuan Faith Spins, and even...dare I say it, the Ultimax Spin of Death.” “Are we really going to use Twilight’s immortality for stunts,” Trixie spoke up. “She could be working on performing a magic show to outperform Trixie one day.” At a glance from Starlight she lowered her head, “Or not.” “Guys, this is all well and good but that’s not what I called you here for,” Twilight interrupted them. “Well what did you call us all here for,” they asked collectively. “I need to research this.” They were all silent. “No, really, we know that I’m immortal, but no one has ever dared run tests on an alicorn. The only ones have been Celestia and Luna and we all know that no one is going to run tests on the princesses, but I’m just another pony.” “Correction, you’re the Princess of Friendship and you and everyone else in this room has routinely saved Equestria from peril, and if anything were to happen to you we would all be in some deep trouble,” Starlight stood up and exclaimed. “Well, I’m on board with this,” Rainbow stood up and glared at Starlight. “I think it’d be awesome to try out some dangerous stuff without the risk of death.” Everyone else looked apprehensive until Twilight cleared her throat and said, “Guys, you can trust me on this one.” Twilight opened her eyes to find clouds surrounding her. She felt light, but in a good way. It was warm, but not too hot for her liking. The clouds underneath her hooves felt soft and spongy, but held the right amount of firmness for her to appreciate them. She looked around her to find nothing but a clear area, with nothing but the cloud floor to discern between what was below her and what was above her. There was a pop that she felt in her forehead rather than heard, and when she turned she saw Princess Celestia sitting on the clouds next to her. “Oh, hello Princess. How are you doing today?” Celestia had a perplexed look on her face, as though she was trying to piece something together, and the look only deepened when she faced Twilight. “I was having a splendid morning until I had some dire news reach me. How...are you doing Twilight?” “I have honestly never felt better than I do at the current moment if I’m being honest,” she responded, giving Celestia a smile. Celestia frowned back, before a look of realization finally dawned on her face. “Twilight, what’s the last thing you remember?” “Well, me and Rainbow Dash were setting up to do some of these dangerous stunts that she had mentioned a few hours ago and then we went up into the clouds and I...don’t seem to remember what happened after that.” Twilight’s face took on a slightly dark look as she attempted to recall what had happened. “And what about before that, why were you doing these ‘dangerous stunts’ as you call them.” “Oh, that’s easy, it’s because I’m immortal and I wanted to do things that no pony else has been able to do.” “Hmmmm...Twilight, this isn’t going to be easy but you need to hear it.” “What is it Princess?” “Twilight you’re not immortal.” “I’m sorry, come again?” “You aren’t immortal?” “I’m afraid I’m having trouble understanding the things you’re saying to me Princess. You see, it almost sounded like you said-” “You, Twilight Sparkle, who partook in dangerous stunts without any safety precautions earlier today, are not immortal.” Twilight’s face went through a range of emotions before settling on confused. “So wait, you mean...am I...is this?” “Twilight you’re dead. This is limbo. You are currently a spirit and your body is buried about three hundred feet under Ponyville after you failed to execute a stunt, broke a wing, and fell about two thousand feet at near supersonic speeds.” “So, you mean I’m not immortal? “No, you are not.” “So, what happens now? Do I just stay here or?” “That’s a bit of a complex question. Normally, you’d live out the rest of eternity in here and be free to do whatever you wanted but...I can’t exactly let that happen. So, here’s what’s going to happen…” Twilight sat up and gasped for breath, her lungs burning as they filled with oxygen, her heart pumping blood as furiously as it could, and her head pounding as she was unpleasantly brought back to the land of the living. She opened her eyes, the face of Luna showing up in her vision before she was yanked off of her back and dragged out of a room that unleashed a loud crack. The pair was halfway down a dark hallway before the sound of rocks falling came from behind them. Luna sped up, almost causing Twilight’s barely functioning limbs to falter as they tried to keep up. They ran through some  halls and up stairs, the sound of the ceiling caving in behind them following them until they finally appeared above ground, the sun blinding Twilight and causing her to cover her eyes before falling to the ground. All she could hear was heavy panting from both her and Luna before the elder princess spoke up. “We hope that you have learned from this and will never  attempt such a foolish thing again. Also, this was our only gateway and it will take a while to build another one so please don’t do anything that foolish again until we do, it is very difficult to get any beings out from limbo, much less to do such a thing repeatedly.” “I promise, no foolish stunts that put my life in danger ever again.” “Right, as long as we have an understanding. Now, it’s about a three mile walk to the nearest town.” “Why, may I ask, can’t we just teleport?” “Well bringing a being back from limbo isn’t exactly easy on me, you’re not in any shape to use magic, and I’m not exactly going to give away the position of what was our portal to limbo away to just anyone,  so it’s hooves until we can get to civilization.” “Right. Let’s get walking then.”
