> Colgate's Dentistry > by Twilicorn > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Coming to Ponyville > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Colgate magically levitated her suitcases behind her, ignoring the staring ponies as she approached the building ahead. Made of sturdy brick, it was built to last. A sign jutted from above the doorway, proudly pronouncing 'Colgate's Dentistry' in bold letters. Entering the building, she ignored how everything looked until she arrived at the upstairs flat, dropping her suitcases on the bed with a sigh. Wait. Bed? Looking around the room, she saw it was finely furnished, containing a bed, radio, and many more furniture pieces. Going back down the stairs, she saw the waiting room was also done nicely, with faux-leather couches and a nice desk where the receptionist sat. "Hey," muttered the receptionist around the quill in her jaws, scribbling on her paper. Dropping the quill, she spun her chair to face her employer. "I'm Ink. Ink Blotch to be specific, but you can call me Ink. I'm your receptionist here at C.D., so don't mind me. You already have some appointments for tomorrow by the way. Diamond Tiara," she said with a scowl, "And a few other foals. No adults so far, but I'm guessing you'll have some by the end of the week. You're our first dentist in a while, d'ya know that?" Colgate blinked slowly, shocked by how fast the mare could speak. "Tomorrow?" she repeated, staring at the receptionist intently. "Tomorrow," she confirmed with a smile, then turned back towards her desk. Colgate let out a long, low sigh, then headed down the hall. The walls were a calming creme, and she saw they branched in three directions. Straight to her right was what she could guess was her office. She poked her head in and saw it had the same faux-leather furnishings as the waiting room, complete with desk and chair. Ducking out, she headed straight ahead, then took a sharp right. This, she could presume, was the foal's area. A small room held toys, and the chair was much smaller. The tools sat on a small silver tray, prepped and ready to go. Small bags sat on a circular table in the middle of the room, toy dispensers surrounding the table. Colgate smiled, a true, friendly smile, and examined the toy dispensers. A coin-slot was affixed to most of them, except the ones with toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and stickers. Opening the drawers randomly, she found one filled with small silver coins, and magically lifted one. Sliding it into the slot, she turned the lever and let out a small squeal as she saw a bouncy ball roll out and into the bag below. Backing away, she left the foal's area and approached the adult's room. It was quite similar to the foal's room, save the larger seats and lack of toys. She poked around, and found in a small back room there was bags also, pre-filled with all toothbrushing necessities. In another back room, there were a few large x-ray machines, but she ignored them. X-rays really weren't helpful, unless there was a root problem. Then again, if these ponies hadn't seen a dentist in years... Colgate left this office as well, trotting up the stairs to begin unpacking her small bags. Out came the formal wear, surrounded in a pale blue aura as into the drawers it went. Next came the toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and toilet paper into the bathroom. Finally came the small stuffed tooth, holding a small toothbrush. She lifted it to her face, cuddling it gently before setting it tucked under the covers of her bed. Magically flipping on the radio, she magically adjusted the tuner to one of the two stations Ponyville had and sat down, eager to listen. "Well, this is DJ-PON3 once again, and we have a special announcement from one of our listeners! Take it away, Pinkie Pie!" "I just wanted to invite alllll of you to a party tomorrow night for the newest member of our town and newest dentist in fifty-tree years! Colgate!" the radio then clicked off, Colgate leaned back on her bed in confusion. How did one of the Elements of Harmony know who she was? Shuddering, she curled under the covers of her bed, and tucking Mr. Tooth under one arm, she fell into a deep sleep. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A/N: I'm aware this chapter is rather short, but since it is the Prologue I figured I could make it a bit shorter than future chapters. The next chapter'll be short as well. > The First Client > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Colgate yawned, rolling over in the bed to the small clock sitting on her bedside table. 'Eight o'clock,' she thought to herself, then jumped out of bed. "Eight o'clock?" running to the bathroom, she hastened to brush her mane and teeth, then jumped down the stairs to the waiting room. "Hel-," began her receptionist, just to be cut off. "When's my first appointment?" "Half an hour," smiled the receptionist, and Colgate darted off to the back room and into the foal's area. Rushing around, she grabbed the small chair-side cart, setting a silver tray on it. Magically grabbing the toothbrush dispenser's handle, she rotated it until a pale pink toothbrush tumbled down, accompanied by a small pouch of toothpaste and a box of floss. Setting them on the tray, she tested all the tools, glad to see they worked efficiently. Magically grabbing a small, hoofheld mirror, she set it on the tray and collapsed backwards onto the dentist's chair herself, panting. Checking the time, she saw she had ten more minutes and leaped towards the sink, hastily washing her hooves before sitting down in a small, spinning chair beside the patient's chair and awaiting her patient. She didn't have to wait long before a snooty-looking pink filly entered, her nose in the air and her purple-and-white mane falling around her elegantly. She stomped towards Colgate with a frown, staring disdainfully at the chair. "Am I supposed to sit here?" she asked, using every ounce of haughtiness she could. "Yes. You're Diamond Tiara, I'd presume?" "The one and only. What exactly are you doing to my mouth?" "I'm going to clean your teeth, then check for cavities. From there I might have to fill them, and I'll of course check your teeth alignment to see if you need braces. Now open your mouth," she added, magically lifting the toothbrush. Lifting the water tube, she let a small amount trickle onto the toothbrush before squirting toothpaste on also. She adjusted the bright light above to shine into the filly's mouth, then began scouring at her mouth eagerly. "Oww," winced Diamond Tiara, wincing as Colgate began brushing along her gums. Otherwise, she remained silent, keeping her mouth loosely open. "Do you know what a toothbrush is?" asked Colgate as she finished, sticking the sucking-tube into the filly's mouth. "No," said the filly honestly with a small blush. "I'm sending this one home with you. If you want to avoid getting any more cavities, brush your teeth and floss them in the morning and evening. It'll also help with bad breath. Now, you do have two cavities, and I'm shocked you don't have more. I can fill them now, or at a later date. Just bring this home to your parents," she said with a grin, "And they can schedule an appointment. I'm just going to floss these real quick, and we can be off." Colgate levitated the floss box, slowly pulling out a good hoof and a half's worth and flossing Tiara's teeth, sliding it back and forth between each molar and incisor. She shook her head sadly as Tiara's gums began bleeding and continued a bit softer. Finally finishing, she smiled at Diamond Tiara, gently patting her on the head. "Now, let's get some toys, eh?" "Okay," said Diamond Tiara with a small sniff, advancing towards the center of the room. Colgate hoofed her two of the small coins as she began filling the bag, putting the used toothbrush, toothpaste and floss in the bag, then adding one more packet of toothbrush for good measure. Diamond Tiara added her own toys, a yoyo and bouncy ball, into the bag, then smiled. "Thank you, Diamond Tiara," said Colgate with a grin. "Thank you" replied the filly, trotting out eagerly. "One job done, only a few more to go," said Colgate eagerly, sitting back down and fiddling with the tools until her next patient came.
