> Kingdom Hearts: The Road to Darkness > by King Camelot > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Introduction > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Ha, is that all you can do? You are so worthless." "The fight was unfair, you know I don't have a Keyblade yet!" "So what? You should have still been able to put up a decent fight. Not that you had any chance of winning." You are so weak." "No, you're wrong!" "Weak, weak, weak! Face it, you will never wield a Keyblade. You're just a scared, dumb little boy who doesn't know the first thing about being a warrior. You should just lie down and die like the dog you are!" (wicked laughter) "You'll regret this! I'll make you pay! I swear you'll pay!" "Nightfall!" You woke up from your inner thoughts and returned to the classroom. Ms. Cheerilee was asking you a question, it seemed. "I'm sorry, Ms. Cheerilee. What was that again?" The students around you snickered to your light-headedness, but Ms. Cheerilee quickly silenced them. Sternly, she repeated, "What is the source of all light in the universe?" Whew, thank God, it was a question you knew. You simply answered, "Kingdom Hearts." "That is correct," said Ms. Cheerilee, "Thank you, Nightfall." Slightly bowing your head, you leaned back into your seat, and let Ms. Cheerilee continue her lesson. "Yes Kingdom Hearts is the source of all light, not just within our world, but all the worlds in the universe. It is the birthing place of all hearts, like mine, like yours, like everybody's. There was once a time when all worlds were one, and were bathed in the light that is Kingdom Hearts. The people loved the light, they cherished it with all their hearts. But a time came when people started wanting the light for themselves, they started to fight over it, and the first seeds of darkness sprouted in people's hearts. A great war clashed out over who would control the light. However, there were no winners, everything and everyone was lost to the darkness, even the precious light they had fought over. Yes, Kingdom Hearts was swallowed by the darkness, never to resurface again. So why is it that there is still light and hope in the worlds, you may ask. Because of the hearts of children. They had a light that the darkness could not touch, and with it, they created the worlds that are here today, including ours. So remember, children, the light exists with all of you, and as long as you believe in it, the darkness will never take you." Finally, the bell rang. Lunch time. Quickly standing up, you and your fellow students exited the room to go have your well deserved break. As you walked, your inner thoughts kept you occupied. "I had that stupid dream again. Curse that witch!", you thought. Sunset Shimmer was always the bane of this school. She would always go around, bullying some poor kid with her Keyblade, or looking for some way to stir up trouble, it was sickening! Not that you weren't the only one who thought so, it's just that everyone was too afraid to do anything about it. And there was good reason to be, like after that last girl who tried to challenge her, what was her name? Whatever it was, her rebellion was nothing like what you tried to stir up. It was a few years ago, you had finally found the courage to face her. You would end up becoming the only person she feared. Then why were you still having these dreams? Why were you not praised by the other students for putting her in her place? Because you used the powers of Darkness to do it. You see, Darkness was thought as taboo at CHS. It was thought, at this school, that Darkness is like a parasite, and that it has to be destroyed. So when a student uses the Darkness in combat... not considered a hero, right? Sunset used this as an excuse to return to power. She said that you were the source of all the Darkness roaming around, and that your goal was to plunge this entire world into the Darkness. Not that anyone bought the part of you being the bad guy, but it was enough to make people avoid you. The closest you've ever gotten to a thank you for your rebellion was a few nods and silent gestures. But other than that, people mostly avoided you. Snapping back into reality, you headed to the lunch room. Finding a nice spot to sit, away from anyone else, you began your lunch, A PBJ with a cookie and an apple cider. You were quietly eating your lunch when you heard something on the other side of the cafeteria. "Take that back!" "You freak, never!" "I said... Take. That. BACK!" Getting closer, you saw that there was a fight going on. No surprise, Rainbow Dash was in the midst of it. She was the captain of like every sports team at CHS, as well as a member of the special Keyblade group, the Calvary of Light. She was considered to be the school's most devoted follower to the Light. She was in a shoving match with another student, a boy about the same age, who kept on the defense by crossing his arms. Students all around them were chanting, "Fight! Fight! Fight!" and all that. Normally, you wouldn't get involved with this, why give the public another reason to hate your guts? But this seemed like it was going to get messy soon, and there were no teachers around. Putting on your serious face, you stepped in. "What's going on here?" you asked as you moved through the crowd. "None of your business, punk! This is between him and me!" Rainbow shouted at you, her eyes never leaving the boy she was fighting. "I told you that I didn't take your stupid Orichalcum+, why would I need it?!" The boy shouted back. "Liar! You obviously took it! You're jealous of my Keyblade and you want to use it to get one just like mine!" Rainbow spat. You knew this to be not true, it took more than Orichalcum+ to get a Keyblade. But it was like Rainbow to throw out accusations, even ones that could never happen. "Ha, was that a joke?" The boy laughed, "Why would I ever want a Keyblade like yours? It's like the dullest thing I've ever seen! Makes sense though, dull Keyblade for a dull Wielder!" Everyone had gasped, he had obviously touched a nerve. Rainbow's blood was boiling. "Alright punk, you asked for this..." She said as she extended her right hand, and summoned her Keyblade. "YOU NEED TO BE PUT IN YOUR PLACE!!!" she shouted as she swung her Keyblade at the boy, if you were gonna intervene, now was the time. Quickly, you dashed in front of the boy and called forth a weapon of your own, blocking her attack. "Stop this, Rainbow!" you yelled, using force to push her back, making her jump back a little, "You know we're not allowed to use our Keyblades on non-wielder students! Stand down!" Now to be fair, you weren't necessarily a Keyblade Wielder, either. But you at least had a weapon, and that put you somewhere on the list. "I warned you, stay out of this!" Rainbow said, pulling her Keyblade to her front, lowering her chest for more Speed Power. It seemed she wouldn't listen to reason. She was too angry. "It seems we're going to have to do this the hard way," you spoke as you got ready to fight, raising your sword above your head, while extending your right hand at Rainbow, tensing your fingers to look like you were holding an invisible orb. Seeing that a duel was about to start, the crowd backed up a bit to give you two some room. Rainbow was the first to attack, performing Strike Raid and throwing her Keyblade at you. Quickly sidestepping, you dodged the attack, preparing one of your own. "Let's go!" You declared as you used Blitz, teleporting in front of her and bringing your sword down on her, teleporting again and repeating this process. "Where are you?!" She shouted, looking all around for you. She felt a tap on her shoulder behind her. "I'm right here," you mockingly said, finishing your Blitz attack by swinging your sword as hard as you could on her. "Why you little-!" Rainbow growled through clenched teeth, "TAKE THAT!" Preparing her Sliding Dash move, she quickly delivered a set of speedy blows, causing you to take a good portion of damage. Clutching your wound, you Dodge Rolled constantly to avoid further damage. "She's strong," you thought as you used Cure on yourself. If you wanted to beat her, you had to be quick about it. Suddenly, a light bulb went off in your head. Now you really shouldn't be using that power, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Unlocking the hidden powers within, your sword shined with a slightly dark aura. "What is this?" Rainbow asked shockingly, looking at your sword, a little worried. Then she noticed something about your sword... "Power!" you shouted as you ran towards her, activating Ars Arcanum. Rainbow woke up and tried to get away, but found herself being hit by a series of quick and powerful blows. Her HP was dangerously low, now was your chance. You jumped back and prepared your finishing blow. You cupped a ball of fire in your hand, slowly letting Darkness consume it and turn it purple, this was your special ability, Dark Firaga. "This is it!" you shouted as you pushed your hand forward and sent the strange fire towards your opponent. Rainbow tried to get away, but it was too late. The ball of fire hit her smack in the face and consumed whatever was left of her HP. "How could I lose?!" she asked herself as she fell to the ground, defeated. Her face now blackened by the fire attack. Level Up!: HP Increased (stop music) Rainbow started to reach for her Keyblade, but you knocked it away from her, pointing your sword towards her face. "You lost, admit defeat," you said with authority. With a scowl on her face, she pushed away the sword and slowly got to her feet, clutching her stomach. "This isn't over!" Rainbow threatened, "Now that I know what you really are, I'll be ready!" And with those words, she left the cafeteria, most likely heading towards the Nurse's Office. Looking around, you saw that people were staring at you wide eyed, a flicker of fear within them. "You're still here?" you asked the crowd, "The duel's over, go back to your business." Seeing the fun was over, the crowd dissipated, allowing you to put your sword away. Walking over to the boy, you asked to see if he was okay. "I'm fine," he said, dusting his pants, "Oh, and thank you for saving me." "No problem," you responded, but then asked, "So, what was that all about?" The boy jumped a little, "Oh, that? Sunset Shimmer wanted me to steal an Orichalcum+ for her, said it was for upgrading her Keyblade. She said she would do something awful to me if I didn't." "Sunset's behind this?" you asked. The boy nodded his head. "I see. Well, kid, do you know why I use the powers of Darkness when no one else will? "No." "It's because, people like Sunset, are only as powerful as you let them become. If you let Sunset frighten you with empty threats, she'll only gain more power, and soon she'll have this school in the palm of her dark hand. If you want change, you have to do something about it. Even if the rest of the school doesn't agree with you. Even if you end up getting frowned upon for it, as long as you follow your heart, you know you've done the right thing. That's why I use Darkness, because that is what my heart tells me. So, what does your heart tell you?" The boy brought his hand to his heart, looking deep inside himself. You chuckled. "Welp, I'll let you think about it. By the way, what's your name?" you asked the boy. "Me? I'm Plentiful Happiness. Plen for short. What's yours?" Plen asked back. You smiled, "My name is Nightfall. Nightfall Abyss." Plen smiled, "Well Nightfall, I'd like you to have this, as a sign of our friendship," He pulled something out of his pocket, and placed it in your hand. It was the Orichalcum+ he had taken. You promised you would put it to good use. Then you two shook hands, and went your seperate ways. Received Orichalcum+! A sign of your friendship with Plentiful Happiness. That boy's gonna be part of something big, you feel it in your heart. Looking at the clock you saw that it was 12:00, Keyblade assignments would be starting soon. You rushed to the auditorium, ready to begin your adventure! Kingdom Hearts: The Road to Darkness By King Camelot > Keyblade Assignments > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Entering the gym, you saw that everyone else was in their seats. They were about to begin. Picking a seat somewhere in the back, you waited for the Keyblade Assignments to begin. You see, If you were a Keyblade wielder, or at least had a weapon capable of combating the Darkness (which was more commonly referred to as the Heartless), you were eligible to take part in what is known at CHS as Keyblade assignments. As a Keyblade wielder, it was a person's task to enter other worlds, and protect them from the Darkness, so Keyblade wielding students were picked to join in groups of three. Those groups could then enter a portal, (provided by the teachers, school principle, or the groups' Portal Master) and enter another world. Once there, you would go around and purge the world of any Heartless you could find, and then return home. It was a great way for students to strengthen their Keyblade skills and create bonds with their fellow Keyblade wielders. But first, there had to be a speech about safety, spoken by Principle Celestia. Which was about to happen now. Clearing her throat, she began... "My fellow students and Keyblade Wielders, it is an honor to have you with us on this bright and shiny day. However, in many worlds, there are Heartless lurking around, looking to ruin their happy days. Now, I'm sure you all can't wait to get out there and give them a taste of your Keyblade. But first, we have a few announcements to make." Celestia then pulled out a short list of flash cards, and then she dropped them. As she struggled to pick them up, there were small chuckles within the audience, you being one of them. She may be your principle, but she could be a bit clumsy at times. Once she regained her posture, and cleared her throat once more, she continued... "Now as you know, the Fall Formal dance is in a few days, so be sure to fill out your votes for Fall Formal Princess or Prince." The audience roared in applause. The Fall Formal Dance was a huge deal. Every year, every student dressed up in something fancy, and went to have a good time enjoying food and dancing. And students would vote on who was the most kind and most strongest student in school, Keyblade wielder or not. And the student would be crowned during the dance. Not that anybody was going to get the crown, that always went to Sunset Shimmer. But hey, we could dream. After a few less important announcements, she once more continued... "Now, before we start Keyblade Assignments, there are a few rules we need to go over. I understand that most of you know these rules by heart. However, to avoid problems within ourselves and our fellow comrades, it is required that we go over them. Ahem, alright, Rule: 1..." "Obey the World Order!" "Very good, students. Now Rule: 2..." "Never tell anyone about the existence of other worlds!" "Splendid! And finally, Rule: 3..." "Trust your comrades! The Darkness is our enemy, never give in! Believe in the strength of your friends!" "Excellent, students! Now we are ready to begin. If you will head to the right side of the gym, Miss Cheerilee will sort you into your groups. Then a portal will be opened for you, and your Keyblade Assignments can commence!" Everyone then got up and formed a line. Heading to the back of the line, you had plenty of time to think about what kind of world you would go to. Would there be an enchanted castle with a princess in need of saving? Or would there be a super-advanced society with super computers? Or would there be... "Um, excuse me." You suddenly found yourself bumped out of the line, with enough force to send you to the ground. "Hey! Watch where your..." You suddenly stopped speaking, for your annoyance had turned in to anger. You growled a bit as you spoke the name of the person who bumped you... "Sunset Shimmer." Your sworn enemy looked at you with a sinister glare in her eyes, clearly enjoying your suffering. "Hello, Dark Heart. Long time no see." You scowled at the nickname, and picked yourself back up. "Hey, back of the line is over there," You mentioned as you pointed behind you. She just laughed, "Oh no, I'm pretty sure it's here. There aren't any other Keyblade wielders here, after all." "You forget, you don't necessarily have to have a Keyblade to take part," You pointed out, summoning your sword. "Ugh, your still using that pathetic excuse of a weapon?" Sunset snorted, "Being someone who treats Darkness like it's our friend, I thought you'd have equipped something more powerful by now." She extended her hand, summoning her own Keyblade and let it cross your weapon. "Hmph, like you'd know anything about using the Darkness," You smirked, remarking about her secret use of the powers Darkness has to offer. She put a hand over her mouth. "Uh, how could you? Accusing me of using the powers of darkness? I thought you were better than that," Sunset playfully said, feigning innocence. She had ways of making her darkness seem like the fault of others. It was one of the things she was good at. "Oh, don't play dumb. Everyone knows that you use Darkness whenever Master Celestia's not looking. You stench of it's foul oder," You chuckled, pretending to sniff the air. "Ooh, coming from the person who uses Darkness without a second thought," Sunset snickered, "But no matter, as far as you're concerned, my record's clean. You can't touch me." She added a playful giggle at the end. She was really enjoying this. "Maybe so," you said, now pretty pissed, "But you can't keep up the act forever. You'll slip up one day, and when you do, I'll be all over you like pack of wolves. You'll regret the day you messed with Nightfall Abyss." The sense of anger and hatred between the two of you was as clear as the blue sky above, to anybody that was listening. The both of you clutched your weapons tightly, waiting for one of you to make a move. You both held so much negative emotions toward each other. And if you looked closely, you could see a faint aura of Darkness seeping from both of you. "Um, if you two are quite done... you're holding up the line." Your eye contact with Sunset broke as you both saw that you two were at the front of the line. Miss Cheerilee was waiting not-so-patiently for you two to finish up. Laughing sheepishly, you let Sunset move up, who twirled her hair with a snap as she walked up. After she finished up and went to her group (Snips and Snails, two non-Keyblade weilders who coasted off her power), you went up to recieve your assignment. "Okay, let's see," Miss Cheerliee spoke as she looked over some papers, "Name?" "Nightfall Abyss." "Grade?" "Sophomore." "Keyblade/ Weapon?" "Soul Eater," you showed her your sword. "Hmm, okay," Miss Cheerilee mumbled as she finished your paperwork, she looked like she wanted to wrap this up. "Well, there is a open spot available in Group 6. They'll be heading off to this world right here." She handed you a slip that showed the name and coordinates of said world. "Alright, thanks!" you said as you looked for your group. After much searching, you found Group 6. Luckily, it consisted of the two people who you could declare were a little bit less than your friends. "Hey Flash! Sup' Octavia?!" you shouted as you gave each of them a high five. "Sup' Nighty," Flash said with a grin. "Good afternoon to you, my friend," said Octavia in a british accent. "Gee, why so formal?" you asked her, "We don't have to be that way in front of our friends, right?" She shot a "I'm not approved" look at you, you backed off. "Hehe, okay. So anyway, Flash, what have we got?" Flash looked at the flash card he was given, "It's some world not far from here. Having a bit of a Heartless problem. You know, the usual." "Alright then, then let's get this show on the road!" you declared, "So Octavia, since your the licensed Portal Master here, if you please?" You added a polite bow just to show off. Octavia gave a small smirk, then she summoned her Keyblade... ...and opened a portal. "After you, gentlemen," she said politely, gesturing towards the portal. "Alright, let's get this show on the road!" you declared as you three stepped into the portal.
