> Lyra Learns the Hard Way that Bon Bon Doesn't Believe in Humans > by Creativa-Artly01 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's a sunny day in Ponyville and Lyra is out for her morning stroll when she overhears Bon Bon talking with some other ponies, a mare and two stallions by the names of Rosegold, Dr. Whooves, and Luster. "Oh, Lyra, yeah," says Bon Bon, "she's nice but her belief in humans is truly ungrounded. Can't she get her head out of the gutter? Humans aren't real and never have been." Lyra looks around the corner shocked and her heart drops. Bon Bon has no idea that Lyra heard the whole thing. She then turns the corner and finds Lyra sitting there in tears. "Did you? Did you hear all of that?" asks Bon Bon. "Mmhmm! And I hate you! I hate you so much! Consider this relationship over!" Lyra then runs off in tears towards her house, where she packs up her things and hops on the first train back to Canterlot. She thought she and Bon Bon were close. Clearly, she was wrong. A few hours later, Lyra returns to her home in Canterlot and unpacks. She then begins to cry. A few minutes later, she gets a rap on the door. She opens it. "Oh, hey Moon Dancer," sighs Lyra. "I heard Bon Bon and you got into an argument and ended your friendship, but why?" asks Moon Dancer. "Well, Bon Bon doesn't believe in humans," responds Lyra. "She doesn't believe they even exist." "Well, I believe you," says Moon Dancer putting her hoof on Lyra's shoulder. "You're the most trustworthy pony I know." "Well, at least somepony thinks that," responds Lyra starting to smile a little bit. Meanwhile, back in Ponyville, Bon Bon stumbles across a pony with similar views to her on the nonexistence of humans and his name is Specs. Bon Bon then invites him over for tea and the two soon become the closest of friends and even begin dating. "I'm so glad to finally have found a pony that shares my disbelief in humans," says Bon Bon to Specs. "As am I," responds Specs with a smile. The two then share a kiss. They then head towards the park where they enjoy a nice picnic and swan boat ride together before they walk down to the fountain and then back to the entrance. "I can't believe a pony would even believe they exist. Have you considered throwing that crazy mare in an insane asylum?" "Oh, I'd never do that to Lyra, even though, now, we are no longer friends," responds Bon Bon. "Why not? She's a lunatic! She's crazy!" responds Specs. She then gives in to Specs demands after several arguments and calls up the Canterlot Insane Asylum and has them go in and take Lyra away. All the while, Moon Dancer there watching the entire thing happen with a shocked horror on her face. "Moon Dancer! Help me!" screams Lyra. "Help me!" Alas, her screams are of no use. "Go get the princess!" Lyra yells as she is thrown into the asylum cart. Moon Dancer nods and goes and runs off towards Ponyville to get Twilight. A few minutes later, Moon Dancer arrives at Twilight's castle and explains everything to the princess. "Why is Lyra in the asylum?" "Because Bon Bon and her new boyfriend told the Canterlot Insane Asylum that Lyra was crazy for believing in humans," responds Moon Dancer. "But humans are real," responds Twilight, "heck, I used to date one myself." She then flies off towards Canterlot after Moon Dancer. They then head towards the Asylum once they are there. A few hours later, they arrive at the Asylum and find Lyra's cell. "Lyra," says Twilight, "we'll get you out of here. I promise. The ponies here have to listen to me. I'm the princess." Twilight then goes to the front and talks to the manager of the asylum. "Sir," says Twilight, trying to stay as composed as possible, "Lyra is not crazy. Humans do exist. See." Twilight then shows the manager a picture of the human Flash Sentry. "Well," says the manager of the asylum, "sorry for the inconvenience. We'll let out your friend. Sorry, princess." The manager then goes over and lets Lyra out of her cell and signs her paper as SANE. Lyra then runs over and embraces Twilight and Moon Dancer in a great big hug. The three then return to Ponyville to confront Bon Bon and her boyfriend Specs. "Bon Bon," says Twilight demandingly, "why did you have Lyra thrown in an insane asylum?" "My boyfriend, Specs made me. I told him she didn't deserve to be in an insane asylum but he refused to listen," responds Bon Bon. "Sorry for getting you involved, Princess." "Well, don't apologize to me, apologize to Lyra," responds Twilight, "she's the one your actions hurt the most." "Sorry Lyra," says Bon Bon, her head held low, "I'm sorry I couldn't stand up for you better. I shouldn't have let Specs push me around like that. I should have told him no. I'm sorry." "I forgive you," responds Lyra. "Is it true that you don't believe in humans, though?" "Yes, that's a fact that will never change," responds Bon Bon. She then runs off towards her home but not before dumping Specs. Specs then looks around confused. Once at home, Bon Bon pulls out all the pictures of her and Lyra and all the fun times they shared and begins to cry. She can't believe she let Lyra go. Alas, their difference in views was bound to come up eventually considering how close they were beginning to get. She felt she had no choice but to let their friendship go. After all, it's for the best. She then puts the pictures back in her box and shoves them back under her bed and then plops down on her bed and falls fast asleep, all the while thinking about Lyra. Meanwhile, Lyra returns back to her home in Canterlot and plops down on her bed and falls asleep, all the while thinking about Bon Bon. She may have lost one friend today, but at least, she still has Twilight and Moon Dancer. At least, she has some friends left. At least, she has friends she can rely on to get her out of a sticky situation. For that, she's grateful. As for Bon Bon, she can't help but feel that what Bon Bon did is unforgivable. After all, she never doubted Bon Bon's beliefs. Lyra just feels betrayed. She just wishes things would go back to normal. Alas, she knows that is never going to happen. > Chapter 2 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A few days later, Lyra goes off to music practice after picking up Octavia and Vinyl. "So," says Lyra, "are you ready for our upcoming concert? Are you ready for practice today?" "Of course," responds Octavia, "will Bon Bon be coming to watch you like she has all the previous practices?" "Sadly, no," responds Lyra, "we're no longer friends due to a difference in views." "Oh, well, I'm so sorry to hear that," responds Octavia. "It's okay, you didn't know," responds Lyra as a small tear falls from her eye. A few minutes later, the three friends arrive at music practice and get in their positions. Vinyl gets behind the electronic keyboard, Octavia sets up her cello, and Lyra pulls out her lyre and her triangle. The three friends then begin to practice. All the while, Lyra can't help but think about her and Bon Bon's recent rift. After a while, Lyra can't take it anymore and just breaks down into a pile of tears. Octavia and Vinyl then come over and comfort her. "Oh darling, oh Lyra," says Octavia as she embraces Lyra in a hug. "This must be very hard for you. Losing your closest friend. At least, you still have me, Vinyl, Twilight, Moondancer, at least you still have us." "I guess," responds Lyra with a sigh as she puts her head in her lap. A few minutes later, they wrap up practice for the day and go their separate ways. Vinyl and Octavia go for coffee while Lyra just goes home, plops down on her bed, and cries. She wanted Bon Bon to come to the concert all those weeks back when she first asked, deep down inside, she still wants Bon Bon to come even though they're no longer friends now. Alas, she knows Bon Bon isn't going to come to the concert now. A week later, it's the day of the concert and Lyra takes her place on the stage alongside Octavia, Vinyl, and the other musicians. As she plays her lyre, she skims the audience and doesn't see Bon Bon. A smile then appears on her face then slowly fades into a frown. She then continues to play through the tears. An hour later, the concert ends and the crowd rips into applause. The applause puts a smile on Lyra's face for a short while before it disappears once again. Their friendship may be over but all those weeks back Bon Bon made her a promise and ponies don't break promises. Lyra is learning the hard way that that is clearly not the case and that hurts her way deep down inside.
