I Wish That We Could Be Like That, Why Can't We Be Like That?
Octavia and Vinyl Scratch always had a thing for each other. When they both booked a gig at Cranky Doodle and Matilda's wedding, they had to provide music for the wedding together. At first, Octavia didn't think two totally different genres of music wouldn't go well together but when they tried that, both of the sounds collide and intertwined with each other making them harmonized together. It was something very original yet beautiful and ever since that day, the two had been in love with each other. They got along so well that they decided to move in with each other. They were overjoyed that they gets to be with each other every single day which can increase their chances of confessing to each other. The two were usually very oblivious to each others feelings but they still get along with each other as friends but they want to be something more than that. One day, Octavia was in the apartment practicing her cello until,
"Yo Tavi! DJ-PON-3 in the house!" Vinyl shouted after she opened the door wide open. She is a white unicorn wearing a pair of purple shades over her red eyes. She also had a spiky, moderate cobalt blue mane with brilliant cyan stripes in it.
"Vinyl! How many times do I have to tell you to knock before entering? I could be practicing." Octavia scolded in frusteration.
"Sorry Octy! I'm just so excited because I just booked a gig at Equestria's number one nightclub, 'Club Luna'"!" Vinyl shouted with glee.
"That's brilliant Vinyl." Octavia congratulated Vinyl. Vinyl thought for a moment and wanted to take this opportunity to ask her out at a romantic setting like the club. She plans to play a slow song and dance with her and kiss heron the dance floor confessing her love to her.
"I was wondering if you would like to go with me to the club tonight?" Vinyl offered levitating a ticket with her magic that has a pink aura. Octavia thought in her head,
'Wow, spending time with my true love? Being the only ones at the dance floor as ponies having their eyes on us? She would gaze on me with those beautiful red eyes and we would have crimson blushes on our faces as she leans in to bestow a passionate kiss upon my lips.' Octavia then shook out of her thoughts and back to the real world but gave the opposite response she was going to make.
"You know I am not exactly the type of pony who listens or enjoys this so called 'techno' music." Octavia
"Please Octy for me?" Vinyl pleaded taking her shades off and giving Octavia the sad puppy dog eyes followed by the quivering lips. Octavia couldn't take the cuteness from Vinyl
"Very well then Vinyl." Octavia responded with a sigh in defeat.
"Oh thanks Octy! Your the best!" Vinyl cheered wrapping her two hooves around Octavia. Octavia blushes and responded with a warm smile.
"Oof. Uh, Your most welcome." Octavia responded as she was getting squeezed by Vinyl's embrace.
Later on, it was nighttime meaning the club opens soon. Vinyl was waiting out in the living room waiting for Octavia to come out so that they could leave.
"Come on Tavi! Hurry up! We don't want to be late!" Vinyl demanded with a slightly impatient look on her face.
"Alright Vinyl! I'm coming! I'm coming!" Octavia yelled back at Vinyl as she trotted out of the room.
"So are you ready to party?!" Vinyl asked punching the air with her hoof.
"I suppose." Octavia responded with a nervous smile and a slight blush on her face.
"Cool! Come on Tavi let's go." Vinyl commanded taking her by the hoof as they galloped out of the house.
"Woah! Please slow down Vinyl." Octavia demanded. In Vinyl's thoughts,
'So far so good. Now all I have to do is set up the mood later on with the love song I mixed for her. I will be able to ask her to dance, and then kiss her. You can say it's my "secret love song."
When the two finally arrived at the club, they took a look around and of course, it was absolutely overwhelming. All of those colorful, flashing lights moving all around the dance floor. There were ponies dancing, breaking glasses over their heads, and not to mention ponies were filling the air with their fowl language much to Octavia's discomfort.
"I don't really know about this Vinyl. Isn't this place well...um..." Octavia was interrupted by Vinyl finishing her sentence for her.
"Uncouth." Vinyl finished for her.
"Exactly. Wait, how did you...I mean"- Ocatavia was once again was interrupted by Vinyl finishing her sentence yet again.
"Rarity is my cousin and I sorta knew you wouldn't really like going to these types of things." Vinyl explained. Yes, she and Rarity are cousins.
"Oh don't be silly Vinyl. It would be quite lovely to step out of my comfort zone." Octavia encouraged herself.
"You would really do that for me?" Vinyl asked with an expression on her face that almost looked like she was going to cry. "Oh no here come the waterworks."
"Of course Vinyl. Anything for a friend." Octavia insisted. Suddenly, Vinyl pulled Octavia into another hug.
"Your the best friend that Anypony could ever asked for. Don't worry Octy. You'll have fun promise. Look there's Lyra and Bon Bon, come on let's go." Vinyl promised followed by once again taking Octavia by the hoof guiding her with a blushing and satisfied Ocatavia followed.
'I wonder why she took me to this club in the first place. Could she be setting something up for me? Maybe she will ask to dance with me and we would confess our true feelings for one another as we share a passionate...no no no, I highly dought that Vinyl isn't really the type of pony who would do romance.'
Meanwhile, Lyra and Bon Bon were at the bar getting some drinks. Berry Punch was also there and she looked drunk. She had a red blush across her face and was hiccuping. She commanded the bar tender,
"Hit me! Bucking hit me!"
"Dude, your drunk." He pointed out.
"And you sexy." She shot back before passing out on the ground falling out of the stool.
"Sup Dudes." Vinyl greeted the two ponies.
"Greetings." Octavia greeted.
"Hey Vinyl, Octavia." Bon Bon responded.
"Woah. Octavia at a nightclub? Now that's something you don't see everyday." Lyra was really surprised yet very amazed. Bon Bon glared at her. Lyra looked over at the glaring Bon Bon asking her, "What?" Octavia looked over at Vinyl and blushed a bit before looking back at the two stuttering,
"Well...um...I suppose that I'm doing a favor for a friend." Vinyl did the same thing as Octavia looking over at her with a blush on her face but then looked away.
"Yeah. Friends." Vinyl added looking slightly disappointed. The mood then changed when the bartender showed up and offered her and Octavia something to drink.
"Can I get you two anything to drink?" The bartender asked the two. Vinyl was the first to speak up.
"Yeah. Can I get three apple ciders, a volka, one Blackjack, and an Irish Trashcan please?" Octavia had a concern look on her face. She knew too much alcohol was bad so she decided to intrude saying,
"What on earth Vinyl? You can't drink all that. It's completly unhealthy. You'll die and I don't want to lose you." Octavia blushed while saying the last sentence. Vinyl blushed two at the thought that Octavia cared so much about her.
"It's cool Octy. I've done this a lot but thanks though for worrying." Vinyl persuaded.
"Um...excuse me sir? Is there by any chance you have water?" Octavia asked politely. The bartender, Lyra and Vinyl were trying to hold back there laughs but they couldn't. The began laughing historically on the floor. A bunch of other ponies joined in as well. Both Bon Bon and Octavia gave confused looks at each other. Everypony except for Octavia and Bon Bon went,
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
"Water? HaHa! What's water?" The bartender asked while laughing in between. Octavia gave a look to the bartender thinking that he was crazy. Bon Bon saw the look on her face and decided to make a connection.
"Yeah that's my reaction when I found out that they don't serve non-alcoholic drinks. Seriously, what kind of place doesn't have water?" Bon Bon chimed in.
"Don't worry I got you covered. A glass of red wine for the lady please." She ordered the waiter. He took out a bottle of wine and a wine glass and poured the wine in the glass handing it over to Octavia.
"Why thank you sir." Octavia thanked him. "Oh Vinyl that's very considerate of you." Octavia said with a slight blush on her face.
"I know you like red wine." Vinyl said with a slight blush scratching the back of her head with her hoof.
Later on, Vinyl, Lyra, and Bon Bon decided to hit the dancefloor. All of them exect for Octavia busted out their best moves.
"Come on Tavi! Dance with us." Vinyl encouraged Octavia. Vinyl then blushed and decided to take out a hoof and out a hoof offering for Octavia's. Octavia blushed a bit but not hesitating to take it. They all were dancing around and having a good time until a slow song came on. All of the couples proceeded onto the dancefloor and slow danced with their special someponies. Lyra and Bon Bon were even doing it. Everypony except Vinyl and Octavia but that changed quickly when Vinyl decided to make the first move and swooped Octavia into a slow dance position.
"So how about a dance? You know, as friends." Vinyl offered.
"I suppose. I would be delighted." Octavia responded. They danced and danced for what it felt like forever until they heard a pony trot up to the two. He was a mint green unicorn with a black, spiky mane and blue eyes which were covered by his black shades. He was also wearing a black short sleeve dress shirt with a white tie and he also has a cutie mark that consisted of three white stars.
"Excuse me? I think we were suppose to do a duet together soon." An new voice reminding Vinyl.
"Oh shoot! I'm sorry Neon. I guess I was so caught up in partying that I totally forgot about the gig I booked." Vinyl apologized.
"Um pardon me Vinyl, but who is this?" Octavia wondered.
"Oh sorry I forgot to introduce you both. Octy this my friend DJ W1SH also known as Neon Lights." Vinyl introduced her friend.
"Sup. Vinyl told me all about you." Neon said.
"Why hello to you too Mr. Neon Lights." Octavia said keeping on a forced smile on when really she was staring to get jealous.
"I see you came to watch our special duet together." Neon said putting a forearm around Vinyl. Octavia had a shocked look on her face while the sound of shattering glass was made which indicated the sound of Octavia's heart breaking but it was actually something else. The sound was made by Derpy dropping glasses of champagne.
"My bad." Derpy said after she dropped a few glasses of champagne on the ground.
"Hope you enjoy it." Neon said as he and Vinyl Scratch were making their way to the stage. Octavia's forced smiles then changed to a frown when the two unicorns left. Lyra and Bon Bon came over and saw a disappointed Octavia and they decided to see what was the matter.
"Are you alright?" Lyra asked.
"Oh yes. Quite scratchy." Octavia said giving the two a forced smile again trying to make them think that nothing was wrong when there really is.
"Scratchy?" Bon Bon asked raising an eyebrow. Octavia then realized what she just said and nervously tries to correct her error.
"I'm mean peachy. Quite peachy." Octavia corrected herself.
"Oh um, okay, if you say so." Bon Bon responded giving her a confused look.
A few minutes later, the music stopped giving the ponies' attention to the stage. The bass started going while the stage rose up showing Vinyl and Octavia wearing headsets. They began singing their while having little moments together much to Vinyl wanting to have these types of moments with Octavia.

Meanwhile, everypony was getting down having the best time of their lives. Well, everypony except for Octavia of course. She couldn't help but feel the sense of jealousy took over the fact that Vinyl and Neon were only friends. When the song ended, everypony cheered while Octavia just clapped only to be polite.
"Yo. Can I get your guys' attention?" Neon tries to get everypony's attention. The club went silent.
"Vinyl, there's something that's been going on my mind for quite some time. Ever since we met and became friends, I always sorta had a thing for you. Will you be my marefriend?" Neon announced. Everypony was awing at the scene except for Octavia. Tears began forming on her eyes.
"I guess I was too late." Octavia said with a heartbroken tone with tears rolling down her face. She then stormed out of the club wailing.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Octavia was bawling running out of the building bumping into ponies. Lyra and Bon Bon watched Octavia galloped out of the building. They might know what's going on yet they don't.
"Why is she crying?" Lyra asked.
"I might know what's going on." Bon Bon responded. She then whispered in Lyra's ear explaining to her that she might have a crush on Vinyl but thought that she was too late.
"Really? Are you sure?"Lyra asked. Bon Bon nodded saying,
"Yeah but we can't say anything to Vinyl."
"Look. I'm flattered but I'm into someone else but we can still be friends right?" Vinyl responded. Everypony awwed again. This time in disappointment.
"Oh okay, I understand." Neon was a little disappointed but still respected Vinyl's answer. They then hugged.
Later on, Vinyl and Neon were still DJing.
"So, who do you love?" Neon wondered.
"I'minlovewithOctavia." Vinyl spat out the words as fast as she could while blushing of embaressment.
"Oh you mean the pony you introduced me to a while ago?" Neon asked.
"Yeah her." She responded.
"Okay cool. I think you should ask her out." Neon encouraged her.
"I should?" She asked.
"Yeah come on let's find her." Neon said.
"Kay. I also had a special "secret love song" planned for her. I was going to play it while I danced with her." Vinyl said with a dreaming look on her face.
"Sounds cool." Neon complimented her.
The two searched everywhere for Octavia but she was nowhere to be found. Suddenly, they found Lyra and Bon Bon and they decided to approach then to see if they've seen Octavia anywhere.
"Hey have either of you guys seen Octy anywhere?"
"No we haven't." Bon Bon lied having a forced smile on her face.
"Yeah we did. We saw her trotting out of the club crying." Lyra reminded her only to get nudged by Bon Bon. Lyra then realized what she said.
"Oh shoot." Lyra cursed to herself.
"Wait a sec guys. She left crying? Why?" Vinyl asked looking very concerned. The two ponies shrugged not knowing what the reason was. Vinyl thought for a moment to see if she could figure it out. Octavia blushing at her, agreeing to go with her to Club Luna, crying when she saw and heard Neon asking her out. She might of didn't watch the whole thing and jumped to conclusions. This could only mean one thing.
"I think I figured it out guys. I think that Octy likes like me and was waiting for me to ask her out." Vinyl stated. The three were a little surprised at first but their shocked expressions quickly changed to disappointed ones.
"Ooooohhhh." They all finally realized.
"Aww man. I really wanted to ask her out."
"Wait a sec. Is it true you like Octavia back?" Bon Bon asked. Vinyl nodded. She then suddenly breaks down into tears realizing what she had just done.
"I-It's okay Vinyl. We'll figure something out." Lyra trying to calm down Vinyl. Vinyl was crying for a good ten minutes until she had finally calmed down.
"Better?"
"Yeah thanks you guys. I can't believe it. I was so blind."
"It's okay. None of us didn't really know that you guys liked each other."
"I should probably cancel the song I was going to play. I just thought of another song to sing."
Meanwhile, at the apartment, Octavia was practicing her cello in sorrow. The tears were pouring down her face dripping onto her cello. She then starts to play a melody and begins singing. Meanwhile, Vinyl was handling the slow jams for the club while singing. Without knowing and surprisingly, they were actually singing a duet together at different places at the same time.

When they finished the duet together, they once again shedded tears and they said in unison,
"Why couldn't I say I was in love? Why couldn't it be like that?"
They thought that it was too late.
