> Thurnis's Memoirs > by Thurnis > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Part I > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- BASED OFF MLP: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC THIS CAN BE CANON ONLY IF YOU WISH IT TO BE SEMI-GRIMDARK SLIGHT GORE/LANGUAGE My name is Thurnis 'Wrath' Treeheart Sparkle. I'm writing this because needs to know my tragedy and what I've been through. I'm writing this because one day i know, someone will make the same mistakes i did. I'm old, very old. But i still remember. I was a young man once, that had dreams and destiny to make a Empire that rivaled Celestia's. But we will get there. First off, i am the grandson of Twilight Sparkle but my new family name forbid it and as my father did, i started farming instead of learning. As i grew older in the craft, my father died on the field and my mother taught me the skills she learned herself. Never going in depth that she was the daughter of the one and only princess. I guess she was ashamed that she married a farmer instead of a prince. But after all this time, i still don't know why she never taught me much magic. - The Axe - One day, she sent me to the ruins of Twilight's Castle. A lot of Equestria was gone some time ago after a long war my mother and grandmother saw. It was still a majestic place, but it was badly burned and run down with wildlife. The wind seemed cursed as i went in, and it tried to blow me and my beard away. But i was stronger. Strangely, even if my mother's name was Sirius and i had a small thin purple and violet line on my beard. I never knew i was Twilight's descendant before i found, the axe. Twilight's Axe was made with the finest steel, great magic, and her own blood and it probably had one propose in the war. Found it in a neat box, hidden in the burned library. The symbols of old empires stretched on the wooden container and the best red cloth wrapping I've ever seen. The axe. Ha. I could still remember the glow the silver weapon gave under the blood-red cloth, quite hypnotizing. I pulled it out, it was as cold as holding ice but soon it turned into a regular temperature. It was said only those that were connected to Twilight could hold the grand blade, and ponies would bleed if they weren't. Hopefully, i never let anyone touch the damn thing besides me. The axe was sure detailed, my grandmother's mark on the axe blade and roses and interesting art on the handle. It was so shiny, i could see the reflection of myself with purple eyes, purple white hair with a hint of grey, and the face of determination. - The Grand Six - That's when i realized i wasn't just some Treeheart. I ran back to my mother's home and she congratulated me.. Saying i had to leave. So i did and became a lumberjack pretty quick at the neighboring villages. That started my connection with that lovely axe. For awhile, i lived a simple life even though my mother would not talk to me. That was until Dragonflight arrived. Ah that bastard.. I miss him. He was the Grandson of Fluttershy, another grave mare in the Mane Six so we had a lot in common even if i didn't know him. He had a grand black Beard with dreads, Pegasus wings and black as night eyes you could stare into the abyss with. A deep voice much like mine and certain ways to control animals. He came with another friend of his, someone named Hardin. This was also another descendant, a son. This time of Rainbow Dash. He was abandoned at birth. But like all of us, never knew. He had hair similar to rainbow's, adding tan and aqua to the mix. They went up to me early in the morning when i was chopping some wood with magic and asked if i really was blood of Twilight. These brave friends came to see if i wanted to to join their conquest, the conquest of friendship and to unite all Equestria under one flag once again. I couldn't have said no to this, but there was one problem. How. I didn't tell you this before, but Celestia and the Mane Six died in that war. Luna was never found. And the Elements were kept in the catacombs of my grandmother. There wasn't much hope, unless we could unite all the family the six had and regain the Elements. Hardin agreed to this and said we had to atleast try. And we did. First we found the grandchild of Applejack, he was named Golden Jack. Occupying the farm as their family did generations back. The stallion with beautiful yellow and red hair Ha. Hardin and Golden sure got along like their ancestors. - Twilight's Tomb - We still had a long journey ahead of us, but we were stopped in our tracks when we came apon the large structure know as my grandmother's Tomb. It held the army Princess Twilight lead as well as herself, the others were buried in less royal terms. It was between two mountains. A walkway lead up into the valley and a spectacular statue was there with Twilight in Alicorn Armor. Underneath read "Friendship is Forever". I wanted to go explore around but Hardin warned us the dead kept guard in this tomb and no one could come back alive. I was unsure if that was true or not, but we entered in anyways in seek for the Elements of Harmony. The place as any graveyard, was damp and we always felt a presence. As we got deeper, i felt we needed to turn back but i kept going with my family history in check and my glowing axe right beside me. Then- We were suddenly attacked! By damn spirits no less that rose from the catacombs to stop us like Hardin warned about. However defeated by the weapons my friends held, they came back like nothing happened so we ran for the main tomb while trying to slow them down by our certain weapons. Oh we ran for so long in the near darkness, it felt like the Tomb kept going and going. Until it finally came to a Holt apon a impressive steel and marble door. Three times as the size we were. Since it was rusted and old, we tried our best to push it open and stress from the Ghosts surely didn't help. As we finally opened it, the military of ghosts seemed to disappear and we were left again in silence of the tomb. As i looked ahead, i could see it. My grandmother's grave. Under a crack in the ceiling, i could see it in the sun's light. It was-  fucking chilling. - Princess's Ghost - Ghost We were in the main tomb now. The temple that held the generals and greats alike. As well as obtaining the elements inside. I walked up to Twilight's grave and a slight voice whispered in my ears. "Thurnis. Come. Come..". Tombs were said to have magical power even after death and we couldn't question that with the Army of the dead that was hunting us earlier. So i came closer to the tomb. Time seemed to slow down and i could hear nothing but silence. "Its finally time huh?" The voice once again whispered, now much stronger "Well, i want to see you with my own eyes." A white light blinded me and i closed my eyes. As i opened them once again, i saw a figure. It was Twilight. It was my grandmother. She smiled as i saw the sparkle in her eyes. I didn't know what to say, i never meet her before and only heard of her in legends and stories. She was my family that i never once considered in my life. She said to me "It's alright, meeting the dead is always strange. Come closer. I need to tell you something." I was so shocked and i couldn't stop to say anything as i walked more closer. "Don't be afraid of me, i never wanted anyone to be like that. I see you found my axe.. keep it in good hands Thurnis." I felt something deep in my heart and i talked "Grandmother, i miss you." I never talked to grandparents so this was a first. She paused for a bit, trying to take it in. I could see tears in her eyes as she said "I know. I know." "Thurnis, i will always be with you. In your heart and in your magic. Here, i don't think i need this anymore.." She gave me a golden necklace in the shape of Celestia's Cutie Mark. "Keep it. It was for Rainbow Dash." I gave a smile with my tears and said "Thank you." She closed her eyes and spoke "Well this is it, this magic can't hold for much longer but.. it was good finally meeting my family once again. Go seek your destiny, go find the things you're looking for Grandson. Go help Equestria become the great Empire it was. Here i kept the Elements for awhile and i think its finally time. Always, stay strong Thurnis." She smiled one final time before she disappeared and time went back to normal. - A Old Friend, Friendship is Forever. - Friends In front of me, were the Elements of Harmony, not in their best condition but it was still something. I put the lucky necklace on, and we left the tomb. It was finally good to be out of it and the wind and setting sun greeted us. We walked to the remaining residence of Rarity's children, Applewood. It used to be a great place for actors awhile back, now it was more or less a fancy village. As we were traveling there someone stopped us in our tracks. It was Starlight Glimmer, Twilight's old apprentice. She wasn't involved much in the war from what i heard. She looked old and pretty wise now from being a apprentice, she had some kind of tribal face paint, a cloak and a dagger of her own. She politely asked us where we were going, she said the town of Applewood was burned down and ransacked by bandits. They captured most of the villagers to work in their mines. Before we thought about it more, Golden and Dragonflight pointed out that we needed to save the villagers and the rest of the town from these slavers. Starlight agreed and she joined our party without knowing our mission at first. We found the Raiders near the old mountains of Applewood. Ah. That's where i got my first kills with the axe, i still remember the blood. Ruthless and merciless, we destroyed whatever the Raiders had and freed the slaves working there. We also found the Grand-daughter of Rarity, somepony named Clarity. She was the nicest and shyest person in the group, but had slight depression. A Pink Mane in the style of Rarity's as well as being a unicorn. With that, we were missing one more person from the Six. And oh i didn't enjoy getting their descendant either. Pinkie Pie. - Western Equestria - I will always remember travelling with the Grand Six, we were just so proud we got so far and we always had a good time, especially with Starlight. Anyways, we were reaching The Rock Pit, the supposed residence of the last Pie and one of the first battlefields for the war. It was desolate enough, fog bloomed everywhere and we could barely see in daylight and everything was dead. But we found her. Her name was Cotton Candy. Green eyes like emerald and hair much like mine and rarity's. She like most, was a farmer that didn't have much going for her. And when she heard the news, she was as excited like the old Pinkie did. - Erelia - Oh i haven't told you of Erelia yet huh? She was a roaming wolf of these lands. Oh not any descendant that i knew about, but The Rock Pit held some very unusual creatures. Hmm, i remember she was as silver as my axe and her scales shined in the sunshine. Her eyes were something of a blast of green and shades of yellow only spring would give. We found her when we were heading to Cotton Candy, she was battling with her family over values. In a rushed and horrible argument, she was stormed from her home planning to never come back. So, what could we do? We gave her a spot in The Grand Six, she became our royal assistant and great friend of arms. - Canterlotten - We now had The Grand Six all in one place, it was quite a unreal moment. But we needed to move on. Our next goal was the ruins of the Equestrian Capital, Canterlot. It was now called Canterlotten because of how rotten it became. Bricks crumbled the kingdom and royalty in that place disappeared without a trace, but we still needed a good base for our operations and it was the best place to go for the time. After weeks and weeks of travelling through forests and plains, we finally walked up the hollow mountain. The air was sure gloomy and the wind was howling up there, Canterlotten was no nice place. Voices from below could be heard in the windows and we sure heard them, begging to get out. Dark magic and skeletons of Royal Guards were all over Canterlotten, Clarity and Erelia got stomach sick over it. We checked around the shops and places, we explored the Theater, Auction house and Cloud stadium. All of them had been deserted from even before the war. Then we came to the Royal Castle. It was still elegant much like Twilight's Castle. Not all the Panels were shattered and in some places it felt like nothing happened, like the Throne Room. The Throne Room was so glorious and gigantic in size, you could hear your own echo. As time moved on, we made our base here. Starlight of course made me leader and we cleaned much of the kingdom to show its pre-war glory. We sent letters that a new land was arising and we even tried the Elements of Harmony a few times. - The Old King - Months pasted and we actually got some visitors, traders from other lands looking to see if the letters sent out were true. They also spoke to me about a mysterious figure coming down from the north to Canterlotten, a old King with a burning passion. We all knew who it was, the one and only King Sombra. But he did not go by this name anymore, he did not consider himself a King after everything he fought for was devastated including the Crystal Empire. He was now known as Old Somberian, and he didn't have the strength as he did before. Though he did still cause a mess. He came from the North as the traders said. He looked much different from what Twilight may have saw. His hair and tail was light grey, he did not have the crown on his head but instead a red bandanna, and his cape was burned and scratched. His ignorant laughing was the same as well as some of his cruel magic. Before he fought us, he told us we were imbeciles to have tried and regain Equestria back, that we couldn't because of the war. He also told us he never got to kill all the mane six in one place, so this was his chance. We fought off that monster for hours in the castle, and the axe stayed with me the whole time. We all used the Elements of Harmony, but they seemed to break into pieces. While i only got minor scratches and bleeding, i couldn't say the same for the others. Starlight fought damn well for her age but soon enough, i was the only one to appose him in the Throne Room. While he was laughing at my weakness, i struck lucky blows into his chest. Ha. He wasn't laughing then, that bitch. He fell to the carpet and looked up to me. He took off his bandanna and spoke as well as he could. "Wear this, it fits you better... I want to see a sparkle wear it."I took the bandanna from him and wore it on my head. "Good, Good.." He grinned. "You are a warrior, young one. Kill me and i will finally be at peace.." I took my magic axe, and cut off his head with one bloody blow. It was done. I wasn't just a young boy anymore, i killed a king and a beast from the past. - Kingship  - After that battle, i was hailed as King from my friends and even Starlight, who began to teach me in the arts of magic that she was taught in. It was the beginning of another part of my life and i felt quite reassured. That is before, i found the Invictio. A ancient Device crafted to travel between dimensions and the multiverse. Its hard to explain how it works exactly, but i will try my best. Once you go to another dimension using the Invictio, time slows downs in the actual world. So a few hours could be a few seconds while going in different dimensions, no risk unless you die or it is destroyed. This was very, very powerful magic we needed to use to regain the Elements, atleast for a few moments so we could clean up Canterlotten for good. Ah.. that is all i will be writing about for now. I will continue this someday, but i can't be forced to write about the things i still have nightmares about.
