> Princess Luna Received a Love Letter > by TheAnimerican > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Letter > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like any other day, it was tiring for the princess of the sun. As soon as the moon was fully raised, Princess Celestia would retire to her chambers. Upon arriving, she made sure to brush her teeth and always left her windows slightly cracked for the warm nights. At that moment, all she could think about was sleeping on her comfortable bed. The thought of laying on a soft pillow was one of the few luxuries a princess could truly experience. As she lied on her bed, she almost immediately slept into the dream realm. As the dream realm surrounded her, it was a cloudy atmosphere and it made her feel at peace. In one direction, there was a bright light that nearly blinded her. As the light dimmed down a large object began to appear. The object grew larger and clearer. Celestia's expression was one of joy and her jaw dropped at the sight of it. What was before her was... a large... beautiful... slice of cake. Her mouth watered for the delicious baking good as she flew toward it. The cake called for her and she rushed with haste. She was nearly there, the cake was in reach. When she was a mere foot away from flavor goodness... it spoke, "SISTER!!! YOUR ASSISTANCE IS REQUIRED!!!" Awoken, she screamed in fear and anger. She didn't have time to gather her thoughts as the voice shouted again, "CELESTIA! THE THRONE ROOM!" Celestia soon realized that it was not the voice of the cake, but her sister in the Canterlot voice. Quickly Celestia rushed to her sister's aid. Once in the throne room, she bashed open the doors with her magic. She looked around the room to observe the situation. The first thing she noticed was that the room was left untouched. However, there were no guards at their post. The only presence in the room was Princess Luna and herself. "Celestia, I'm so glad you are here," Luna said as she ran to meet her. "I am here now. What is it? Are we under attack? Where are the guards?" Celestia questioned. "Umm... no we are not under attack. As for the guards, I asked them to leave," Luna replied in a uncomfortable tone of voice. "Is this an emergency? Why would you ask the guards to leave?" "Well... you see... I uh..." Luna struggled to find the words. "Luna, what is it? Tell me what is wrong?" Celestia asked, becoming irritated with her sister. "I umm... I need your advice." Despite Celestia finally getting her answer, she stood there in silence as she tried to comprehend what her sister had just said. "Are... you... kidding me?" Celestia thought to herself, "She woke me up, from what could have been a lovely dream, just to get some advice? How old is she again?" Although this very much made Celestia upset, she realized that she probably needs to hear what she had to say first. She took a couple of deep breaths before speaking, "Luna, as you know, the hour is late. I was very much asleep when you called for me. I would be more than happy to help you with anything you need, but this advice could not have waited till the morning?" "I realize you are tired sister and I am sorry for bothering you, but I did not know what to do. I thought you might have had some sort of experience in this matter." "And the matter being?" "...This," Luna replied as she levitated an envelope to Celestia. With her own magic, Celestia took hold of the envelope. She then proceeded to open it and read the letter found inside: My Princess Luna, When I was little, I was told those frightening tales of Nightmare Moon. For a short time in my life, I feared you and hoped that I would never meet you. But one Nightmare Night had changed my view on you completely. You were nothing like the horrifying monster I was told when I was a colt. Instead, you were this beautiful princess who was kind to her subjects. Whenever I had a nightmare, you were always there to save me. You had always taught me to be brave and confront my fears. If I needed to, I should not hesitate to ask for help. However, I chose to face my fears and never call for you. In the end, you always showed up to protect me. As I grew older, my feelings for you began to change. What started off as admiration, it slowly began to grow into something more. I found myself hoping to have a nightmare just so I can see you. Now that I am older, even when I have nightmares, I never get to see you anymore. I don't blame you as the dreams of the young should come first. Before, I was a tiny and wimpy colt. Now I am an grown and a stronger stallion. I might not be a prince, but I hope you would consider me fitting for a princess. If you don't, I will understand, but I wish to confess my feelings to you personally. Whatever happens, you will always be my princess. See you soon. For a moment, the room was silent. The suspense was killing Luna, but she did not say anything as she believed Celestia was still reading the letter. The suddenly, Celestia made a loud, filly like squeal that pierced Luna's ears. "Aww, Luna received a love letter! That is so adorable!" "It's embarrassing," Luna said in a embarrassed tone. "Oh what have you to be embarrassed about? You have a secret lover," Celestia continued to tease her little sister. "Tia, please, this is serious. I need your help." "My help? Why would you need my help?" "You have to remember that I am a princess of the night. When we were younger, you were being admired in the day and I had nopony at night. When I grew older, darkness overcame me and I was banished to the moon for 1,000 years. Even when I had returned, it was difficult to adjust to this new life style. I fear that there are still ponies out there that don't trust me," Luna said with sad and concerned tone of voice. "Luna, you maybe right, there are ponies out there that might see you as Nightmare Moon. But look at what you have accomplished as time has passed. Not only did you win the admiration of many subjects, but you have certainly caught the heart of one particular stallion," Celestia tried cheering her up with a smile. "Sister, you are missing the point. I rarely interact with ponies outside of royal duties. I wouldn't... know how to talk to him..." Luna said with a blush. Celestia gave a smile, leaned in, and embraced her sister, "Luna, I don't think you have to worry about that. This pony hinted that you have watched over him while he was a little colt. To have been able to inspire him to become stronger, you found the right things to say to him. I am confident that if you be yourself with him, he will still care for you for you." The embrace comforted Luna very much. This reminded her of her days as a young filly. Whenever she was upset or confused, Celestia would always comfort her in the same way. The thoughts could not help but bring tears to Luna's eyes. Once Celestia let her sister go, she noticed the small tears running down Luna's muzzle. With her magic, she wiped Luna's tears away. Luna gave Celestia a soft smile. She sniffed to clear her nostril and wiped her hoof across her nose. "I am actually very curious at who the mystery stallion could be." Celestia once again levitated the letter, "Judging by the letter, you made a good first impression on him on Nightmare Night." "I'm afraid that doesn't quite help Tia. I have been to many places on many Nightmare Nights. I enjoyed my time with the children, but I can't possibly remember all their faces." "Hmm... What has made me curious is the fact he said that he would, 'see you soon,'" Celestia raised a brow. "He... He did didn't he?" "I wonder just how soon," Celestia teased Luna. Although Luna tried her best to remain calm, Celestia could see her sister trembling. "Luna, when did you receive this letter anyway?" "Oh, it was soon after I relieved you so you could go to bed. I went to the tower as usual to raise the moon. Once I returned to the throne room, the letter was there on the... well throne. After I read the letter, I asked the guards if they had seen the pony who left it there. They said that nopony has entered the throne room since I left." Both Celestia and Luna contemplated on the situation. Celestia's eyes widen as a thought came to mind; her reaction did not go unnoticed, "Tia, what's on your mind?" "Well, sister, when I go to sleep, most of the servants are asleep. Also, if somepony did enter, a guard should have noticed." Luna's eyes widened as large as Celestia's, "Sister, you don't think..." Celestia nodded her head, "Your secret lover might be... one of the guards." > Distracted by Dreams > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "One of... the guards...?" questioned Luna. She then looked around the room to see ten of the lunar guards at attention. To think that one of them could be Luna's admirer. "Sister, what am I to do?" "Why do you look so worried sister? Are you unhappy that it is a guard that has feelings toward you?" "Yes? No? Maybe? I don't know," said Luna. Despite what she said, she knew that it did bother her that it was a guard. She was unsure if it was considered strange for a guard to have feelings for their princess. Also, was it right to be with a guard? Other guards might see it as favoritism? Or worse, what if the guard was hoping to win her for personal gain? Promotion? Security? The thoughts poured through Luna and she became worried. "Sister, could that guard's feeling truly be genuine?" questioned Luna. "What do you mean?" "What if... what if his feelings aren't real? Sister, you know this isn't the first time somepony tried to take our hooves. We have met many with greed in their hearts." "That may be true Luna, but not everypony is like that. Also, you will never truly know unless you confront this." "Tia, I..." "Luna, I know you are scared and you don't want to get hurt. I too don't want to see my sister in pain. But seeing you even consider this guard's feelings, to me, is a sign; A sign that you want to know the truth. Maybe even give him a chance?" Celestia winked. Luna gave a slight blush from her sister's tease. "I uh... I need to think about this. Thank you for listening to me sister." "Of course Luna. You think you will be okay for the night?" "Yes. I will be fine. Goodnight Tia." "Goodnight," Celestia said before walking back to her bed chambers. As Luna returned to the throne, she took another look around the room. To each guard, she thought heavily on who it might be. "Oh what am I going to do?" she thought to herself. "It isn't like I can enter their dreams to find out who it is. And it's not like I can go up to them and be like, 'Hello guard, are you by chance the one who confessed their feelings to me?'" Her current situation just made her feel more anxious. She needed to get away and distract herself. "The dream realm should take my mind off of this." With that said, she closed her eyes and cast the spell that had transcend into the dream world. Once she opened her eyes, she was surrounded with orbs that possessed the dreams of her subjects. Although it was cold in the dream realm, it warmed her heart to see those with happy thoughts. There was one dream, however, that caught her attention the most. The orb that levitated in front of her possessed two ponies, a female unicorn and a male earth pony. They both seemed happy together as they laughed and talked in a restaurant. Then the stallion took hold of her hooves, "Listen, this is probably the craziest thing I have ever done, but we have been together for a long time. I have been thinking long and hard and I feel that this is right." He then got out of his seat and stepped closer to the mare. Before the mare said anything, her eyes widened and her mouth covered by her hooves. The stallion then reached under the table to pull out a little case. He opened the case that held a beautiful diamond ring. "White Rose," started the stallion, "Will you marry me?" The mare began to cry tears and nodded her head in a "yes" motion. He embraced her and the restaurant cheered for the newly wed. Luna smiled as she observed them from a distance. However, something puzzled her about the dream. Each orb has their own wave of energy and it centers upon the dreamer. In this case, the center of energy is not within the stallion nor the mare. Curious, Luna entered dream orb. Immediately, she was surrounded by other ponies that cheered for the couple. With her magic, she was able to track the energy source to another part of the restaurant. She flew up to the air and was surprised to find her target. What she saw was an old mare, sat at her table alone as she watched the celebration unfurl. Although she was not as excited, she smiled for the two ponies. The princess could not help but smile at the sight, "I wonder if this was her when she was younger." To Luna, the old mare seemed rather lonely. Although this did not qualify as a nightmare, she considered it her duty to provide her subjects comfort when she could. She flew down to the table of the old mare. Despite the fact she landed mere inches away from her, the old mare paid no attention to her. Luna gave a cough to make her presence known, "Excuse me?" The old mare was slightly startled at the new voice, "Oh! Princess Luna?" The mare looked around her and thought carefully before speaking, "I suppose I'm dreaming aren't I?" She wore a pair of small glasses, had short cut mane and her accent indicated she was from Trottingham. Luna giggled, "You mind if I keep you company?" "Oh not at all," the old mare motioned for her highness to take a seat. Luna got comfortable as she watched the couple receiving congratulations. "Free cider for everyone!" the manager shouted. The crowd cheered and ran to the counter. "I must say, it is nice to have some company this time. Let alone it to be Princess Luna of all ponies." she laughed. "This is quite the dream. By chance, is that you and your husband?" asked the princess. "Huh? Oh hahaha. No deary. I don't think I looked that beautiful when I was her age. No, this dream is about my daughter and hopefully her future husband," said the old mare. "Hopefully?" "Yes. They have been together for some time now. He is such a gentlecolt and isn't he handsome? In fact, he is all she ever talks about nowadays. I don't blame her of course. I was hoping by now I could see them get married, but for some reason it hasn't happened yet." "I see. Have you ever talked to them about the subject?" "I believe in letting nature take it's course, Your Highness. I can wait a little while longer to see where life takes them. They will know when they are ready. For now, this is just a dream that I hope becomes a reality." For Luna, she was concerned for the old mare's feelings. However, she admired her patience and moving with the flow of life. Suddenly, their surrounding began to change. Everything, except the old mare and table, faded away into darkness. Almost immediately, a new scenery appeared before them; grass grew underneath them, clear blue sky from above, a house appeared behind them, and in front of there there was a little filly and colt playing on a hill top. "Where are we now?" "If it still exists, this is my home back in Trottingham. I moved to Canterlot when I was much younger. I rather miss it and I have dreamt of taking my grandchildren there one day." Although the setting was amazing, Luna couldn't help but find it odd at the same time. Other than Pinkie Pie, she has never encountered another pony that was able to shift dreams so quickly. She wanted to learn more about her, but duty called as she heard the scream of a filly having a nightmare. "I'm sorry," Luna apologized, "I have to go." "Of course princess. Thank you for stopping by. I very much enjoyed your company." "As have I... uh... I am so rude. I never learned your name." "It's alright. My name is Rosebud." "I hope we can meet again," said the princess as she left the dream orb. "As do I dear... As do I..." > Him > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another night of Princess Luna performing her duties has passed. She opened her eyes to see a room full of new guards. Also, the warm comfort of another pony laying beside her. As she got back up, she looked to her left to see Celestia's smile. "Good morning sister," said Luna. "Good morning. It seems you worked overtime," Celestia said jokingly. "I have? Oh. Yes. There were a few little ones that decided to sleep in. Honestly, don't fillies and colt know when bedtime is anymore?" Celestia laughed, "Unfortunately, these days, the little ones are not as active as before. Well you should go rest up yourself my sister." Luna yawned, "Thank you sister. Have a good morning." With Luna's power exhausted, she struggled to get back on her hooves. She tried her best not to show it, but Celestia was concerned. "Luna, maybe I should-," Celestia was interrupted by a pegasus guard. "Pardon me princess, but the mayor of Fillydelphia has arrived for your appointment," said the guard. "Oh um... Well I will be with him in a moment. I have to take care of Luna first." "No sister," Luna protested, "I am fine. You must keep your appointment." "Luna, you are exhausted and you can barely walk. I can't let you walk back like that." "I said I'm fine," said a frustrated Luna. "And I said-." "Um your highness," another guard, an earth guard, came up to her, "I would like to request permission to escort Princess Luna to her chambers." "Thank you guard, but that won't be necessary," Luna stated. "Actually Luna, I think you should let him take you," Celestia suggested. "But sister-." "Luna, I am not comfortable with you walking back on your own. You don't want me to leave my duties. It works out for both of us if you at least allow this guard to escort you. Please Luna, for my sake." "Oh for-, Fine. If it will stop your pestering then I agree," Luna said as she stormed out the throne room. Celestia gave a deep sigh before looking to the guard, "Please take care of my sister." "Of course princess," he bowed before going after Luna. "Oh and one more thing," the guard stopped to hear Celestia, "Right now she is not in the best mood, but I am sure she will be happy with what you have to say in time," Celestia said with a smile and wink. *** Luna stomped her hooves down the hall in frustration, "Why does Celestia still treat me like a little filly? Have I not proven I can handle myself? Argh!" "Princess!" Luna heard a shout coming from behind. She turned around to see the guard that was supposed to be escorting her. "Princess, please don't stress yourself. Allow me to help you." Luna took a deep breath before speaking, "I appreciate your kindness and understand it is my sister's command, but I assure you that I am able to walk myself back to my chambers." "Forgive me your highness, but if you recall, I voluntarily requested to walk you back. It was never commanded by your sister. The concern is mine and mine alone." It slipped Luna's mind that it was the guard that wanted to escort her back. What caught her by surprise, however, was the caring words that came from him. All guards had sworn oath to protect their princesses, but this one seemed different. Then again, Luna never really confronted a guard one-on-one before. Maybe, for the first time, she witnessed just how dedicated the guards are for them. A warm feeling grew within her. With redness in her cheeks, she cleared her throat before speaking, "I appreciate your concern, but please return to your post. I will be all right." The guard gave a sigh and bowed, "As you wish princess." The guard turned back to the direction of the throne room. However, after taking a few steps, he heard a loud thud behind him. He turned around to see Princess Luna lying on the ground. "Princess!?!" the guard shouted as he ran back down the hall. Once he reached Luna, he placed his hoof around her neck to find a pulse. It was there and it was strong. He then placed his hoof on her head. It turns out that warm feeling Luna had was not a good thing, "Princess, you have a fever." "I... I am fine... I don't get sick," said Luna. "Forgive me, but your fever says otherwise. I will carry you to your chambers." The guard proceeded to lift Luna off the ground. However, given that Luna was slightly taller than him, the best he was able to do was provide leverage. Luna leaned on him as she made her way back to her room. "You are a very persistent guard," Luna said heavily breathing. "Well, this is what I signed up for your highness," said the guard. "To help a damsel in distress to her chambers?" she said jokingly. "Well, along those lines." "Your accent, are you from Trottingham?" "I was born in Trottingham, but I was raised in Ponyville." "Forgive me, but can we stop for a moment?" "Of course princess. Why don't you rest here?" the guard guided the princess to a bench near the window. "Thank you." The princess gave a soft smile to the guard. She then looked out the window overlooking Canterlot. She has seen the tall buildings and sophisticated ponies many times before. It was beyond the walls that caught her attention. From her view point, most of her vision was blocked off by the mountains. To the side of it, she can see the small town of Ponyville. "Ponyville huh?" Luna thought to herself. As Luna reminisced her time there, she could not help but crack a smile. "Something amusing princess?" "Oh it's nothing. Ponyville, that was the place where I first showed myself in public since..." "Since your return?" "Thank you for putting it midly," Luna said in a depressed tone of voice. "Anyways, I went to Ponyville on my first Nightmare Night. In retrospect, it probably wasn't the best time of the year to show myself. At firist, the ponies of Ponyville feared me. If I so much as lifted a hoof, they cowered before me. I thought that signified I would be forever known as 'Nightmare Moon.' I almost went as far banishing the celebration forever." "What stopped you?" questioned the guard. "Well, there were two ponies that helped me realize that Nightmare Night wasn't so bad. They showed me that the citizens of Poneyville were afraid of Nightmare Moon. I had to help them realize that I am Princess Luna." "How did you do that princess?" "It was an interesting approach. Princess Twilight Sparkle believed that if I scared the fillies and colts, they would appreciate me more. Apparently, they find it fun to be scared. I had so much fun with the children that night. That was when I decided I wouldn't cancel Nightmare Night. That same night, I became a little colt's favorite princess. He was so adorable." The guard chuckled, "Do you remember the colt's name?" "Unfortunately, I do not. It was so long ago and I haven't been able to visit Ponyville enough." "I see. Well, I'm sure he still thinks of his favorite princess from afar," assured the guard. "You are very kind. Thank you." "Of course princess. Shall we continue to your chambers?" "Yes," Luna stood up, "I believe I am well enough to walk myself from here." "Princess, please don't start that again. There is no shame in seeking for help when needed," the guard said as he positioned himself next to his princess. The princess was slightly annoyed, but she admired the guard's perseverance. "Oh very well if you insist," said Luna as she once again leaned on the guard. The short journey to Luna's chambers continued. "It is funny that I have never seen you before. How long have you been with the guard?" "I only started just recently. Perhaps the reason why you haven't seen me is because you normally would have gone to bed by now." "I see. Well I am glad to have met you... Uh..." Luna realized that she never got the guard's name. As she was about to ask him, the guard spoke. "We made it. You can finally rest princess," said the guard. The princess looked up to see the emblem of her cutie mark above the doors. She used her magic to open them and entered her room, "I can take it from here. Thank you for your company." The guard bowed, "Not at all princess. I'm always at your service. Have a good rest princess." The guard then left the bed chambers. Luna raised the covers of her mattress and lied herself down. As she got comfortable, the covers then descended over her. As she closed her eyes, she thought back on the guard and their talk. She then realized something, "Oh Luna you jerk! You forgot to ask his name!" *** "After hearing these words princess, we plead for your assistance in our time of need," said the mayor of Fillydelphia. "The flood was unfortunate and I am glad you came to us for help. We will send materials to help rebuild the damaged buildings. I will also dispatch guards to help the homeless and attend to the injured," said the princess of the sun. "Thank you! Thank you princess! I will inform the ponies of Fillydelphia of your kind gesture!" the mayor said with glee as he ran out the throne room. Celestia smiled as it always made her feel good to help those in need. She then looked to the royal secretary, "Pencil Pusher, if you would be so kind." "Of course princess. I will write out the orders to purchase the proper materials. Also, I will dispatch orders to whatever guards we can spare." "Thank you. Please see that it is done at once." Pencil Pusher bowed to her princess as she left the chambers. From behind her, the princess heard a door open and hoof steps approaching. She turned her head slightly to see the earth guard from before, "How is my sister?" "Your majesty, I am sorry it took me so long. I escorted her safely to her room. I should tell you that she had a slight fever." "I thought she didn't seem well. Thank you and..." "'And' your highness?" the guard questioned. "And did you tell her what you wanted to tell her?" Celestia smirked. The guard blushed and gave a soft smile, "Well, I decided to wait until she was better. Thank you princess. I did learn something from this though." "Oh? What is that?" "She hasn't forgotten about me," the guard said with a smile.
