> Background Noise. > by Comrade Bagel Muffin > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Night I Saw The Music > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vinyl Scratch walked down the stairs of her house to the living quarters. The living room was cut down the middle. Half the living room was full of very high class items, as well as a special place to play music. There would normally be a cello and a grey mare with a black mane practicing. Today however Octavia wasn't here. She wouldn't be back for another four days. Vinyl jumped onto the couch which was on her side of the living room. She looked up at the clock it was ten minutes before noon. Normally she'd be asleep right now. Mostly because she normally worked during the day, but really it was because she was lazy really, really lazy. Today was a major exception to the rule. She turned on her headphones and let the music pound into her head. The beat booming, vibrating, and awakening every atom in her body. This was music. Vinyl loved her sister, but Tavia had no scene of what music really was. Music was this beat, tempo, energy, life. She bobbed her head to the heart beat of life. After a few minutes of plugging herself into the heart beat of the universe she was completely awake, and dancing across the floor to the kitchen to get a daisy sandwich. Ding the door bell rang. Vinyl took a bite out of her sandwich and trotted to the door with the sandwich floating by her side. "Hello Vinyl." Noteworthy smiled as the white unicorn pulled him into the house. She grabbed him by the hoof and started dancing, laughing as the stallion nearly fell on his flank at the unexpected action. "Hey Noteworthy." Vinyl twirled around and sat down on the couch panting. "How are you not out of breath?" "I'm a singer Vinyl. breathing and breath control are important in my area of expertise." He sat down, next to the white unicorn with the blaze blue mane. "What was with the dancing?" "Can't a mare dance with her stallion?" Vinyl nuzzled him and pulled herself up against him. He wrapped his hooves around her. "Say 'ahhh'" She let Noteworthy take a bite out of her sandwich. "This is good. Where did you the daisies?" Vinyl took another bite out of her sandwich. She could have sworn it tasted a whole lot better, after he had taken a bite. "My little secret." Vinyl offered him another bite from her sandwich. "If I told you, you wouldn't come over and visit me nearly as often would you ?" She pouted up at him. "Vinyl I come over at least twice a week." "And how many times have you stayed here over the night, huh?" "Vinyl." She shoved the rest of her sandwich back into her mouth. "Nwo morh sandwhich forh you." She swallowed down hard, and sighed. "Everything seems to taste so much better when with you." She looked up and smiled mischievously. "You're a pretty good spice Mister No-." Her eyes went wide when he leaned in and kissed her. "You to Ms. DJPON3." "Ah uh, ah." Vinyl stuttered her cheeks glowing red. Noteworthy laughed at his speechless marefriend. "You're a changeling. What have you done to Noteworthy?" He continued laughing as she playfully hit him. "So Vinyl what were you hoping to do today?" He blushed a little as she snuggled up against him. "I know of this really amazing place in Canterlot if we take the train we could get there by three?" Vinyl rested her head against his shoulder. "Hmm maybe later." She sighed. "I'm really tired from my gig last night." Her voice was a lot softer and more fluid than it normally was. "Let me just have a little nap." "If you want a pillow." "I've already got one." She nuzzled his shoulder as she rested up against him. "Alright Vy, sweet dreams." Noteworthy shut his eyes and rested his head against the back of the couch. *** Dong. Octavia's grandfather clock sounded once. Vinyl rubbed her eyes and stretching out her forehooves yawed. She looked up at who her hoof had tapped. Noteworthy was still out like a light. Vinyl smiled at how adorable he looked while he lay there, his hooves were still around her belly. Vinyl put her head against his chest and inhaled as deeply as she could. He smelled like berries and his heart beat sounded just like her favorite type of music. She smiled as a sweet and slightly wicked thought came to her. She gently took his hooves off of her, and kissed her stallion as she gently got up. It was very important he didn't wake up. her horn glowed as she pulled up three separate speakers and plugged them into her table. "Hello Noteworthy, it's time to wake up!" Vinyl pushed all the dials up to the max. All three amps boomed out a strong low base. "Woo hoo!" "Ahhh!" Noteworthy fell off of the couch, putting his hooves over his ears. "Vinyl, cut that racket off!" "Sorry." Vinyl winced, she cut all the dials down to zero and pulled the plug as her ears flattened. "I didn't mean for it to be that loud. You don't like my music?" "Vy." Noteworthy got up and rubbed his head. "I love you, you know that, but that dub doesn't sound like music to me. It sounds like background noise. I don't know how you can do that all night every night." Vinyl's smile returned "Can I show you something?" she took Noteworthy's hooves and pulled him after her to the kitchen. She turned on the sink and grabbed as much of the water in her magic as she could. "Bring one of the amps in here with my table." "Vy?" "Please let me show you?" "Alright Vy." Noteworthy came back with one of the speakers plugged into Vinyl's table. She took a deep breath and steadied herself as she held nearly twelve gallons of water in her magic. She turned the dial to one and focused the speacker at the water. Bom bom bom. The water began to jiggle and wobble like jello. She moved dials and twisted knobs as her special somepony watched in dumbfound amazement as the water danced to her beat. "This is how I can do it every night. Dub is like the heart beat of the Universe." Noteworthy smiled and started to hum, in tune with the beat bobbing his head with the bass.
