> A New Start > by Lotus Moon > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Plans Askew > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lotus was in the living room going through the checklist Princess Twilight Sparkle helped her prepare. In fact, she had several dozen lists to go through. She would've preferred if Twilight took care of all of this herself, but she could handle it. She was honored enough that Twilight, the Princess Twilight Sparkle, was going to be her Mare of Honor! And Princess Cadence was going to officiate the wedding! Any couple would be honored to have one Princess helping out, but to have two was more than she ever hoped for. As Lotus looked over the checklist, she sighed. "There's so much to do. How does Twilight stay so level headed with just one checklist?" She thought for a moment. "Oh right, she has Spike to help her out...though I guess she puts him through the wringer as well." She giggled. "Alright, let's see..." Flowers - lavender for a really relaxing vibe: check Guest List - all taken care of: check Venue - the bridge by town hall: check Decorations - spring colors: check Food - Pinkie's got that covered: check Dress - Rarity's taking care of it: check "I think I've got everything taken care of. If there's anything else, I can go over it with Twilight since she's more organized than me. Right now, I better get ready." She placed the list on her desk and went to her room. Her horn lit up as she started going through her closet, trying to pick the best outfit. Rarity's creations hovered around her as she did her best to decide. There was a black sequin dress with a matching hair clip, a spring inspired dress from her In-Spire-Ation collection, a pale blue dress with sapphires decorating the hem (which she had to keep away from Spike), and a simple white dress. After much debate, she picked the pale blue dress with sapphires. She set the dress on the bed and placed the other dresses in her closet before heading to shower. Standing under the shower head, Lotus let the water run over her as she grabbed her body wash and brush. Humming, she scrubbed herself down as the water washed the suds away. She picked up her favorite shampoo for her mane and tail. "This one always gets me mane and tail feeling like silk and it goes perfect with my body wash. He's sure to love it." She mumbled to herself, washing her mane and tail before combing through them. Once she was finished and toweled down, she went back to her room. Glancing at the calendar, Lotus couldn't help but smile. The date circled on the calendar was Saphirus' birthday and they were going on a special date to celebrate. They were going to have a picnic at the gazebo. Lotus looked over herself in the mirror from all angles. She noticed that she looked a little bigger around her stomach, but it wasn't too noticeable. Checking the time, it was almost time for her to get things ready. She got dressed, did her hair up into a bun and gathered everything she needed. She had food she made, dessert from Sugar Cube Corner, and flowers from Daisy. Having all she needed and a picnic blanket, Lotus went to the gazebo. ***** Saphirus made his way to the gazebo hastily. He had gotten off late from work and had rushed home to get ready and was now rushing to meet Lotus. He had been looking forward to this picnic all day. He couldn't disappoint her by being late. Once he got close, stopped and he panted heavily. "I can't stop now. Lotus is waiting for me. But if I keep going, I'll look a mess." He mumbled. Taking a deep breath, he walked to the gazebo. Once there, he was surprised to see everything set up. One of his favorite meals (steamed vegetable soup), favorite dessert (apple spice pound cake), and lilacs all set up on a picnic blanket. Lotus was sitting on the blanket, smiling at him. "L-Lotus...you did all this?" "Of course I did. It is your birthday, after all. I couldn't have you do all the work." Lotus smiled. "You didn't have to do this. I mean, I could've helped out." Saphirus sat down next to her. "I don't mind. After all, you went out of your way to even prepare everything for our anniversary dinner as well." "I don't mind it. I like cooking for you. And...since we'll be married soon...I'll be cooking for you more often." She blushed, poking her hooves together nervously. Saphirus blushed, remembering his marriage proposal after their lust driven mating session. He looked down bashfully and he traced small circles on the blanket. "O-Oh. Right. I-I've been wondering about that. How's the planning been going? I mean, you have Princess Twilight helping you." "Oh, it's going well. She's so organized, it's scary. She's left me with what seems like over 100 scrolls of checklists to go through." She giggled, picking up the soup ladle with her magic and poured them both a bowl. "It took me all day to get through at least...um...well I don't know how many. I stopped counting after a while." Saphirus laughed a bit. "I can only imagine how that must be. Tell you what, I'll help out with that so it's not overwhelming." He offered, picking up his bowl with his hooves. "That would be really appreciated." She smiled. They spent their time together talking about wedding plans, their lives together, and their future. With Saphirus working as a writer and Lotus working as a story reader for young children, they see their path together looking very bright. Once they got to dessert, Lotus didn't feel like herself. She purchased two slices of apple spice pound cake for them, but couldn't bring herself to eat it. Something just felt wrong. And when Saphirus asked about her eating dessert, she lied and said she was full. "Let's go home, then we can talk on a more...personal level." She giggled, making Saphirus' face turn red up to his ears. "Um..y-yeah. That sounds nice." He chuckled nervously. And with that, they walked home. A few days after the proposal, Saphirus and Lotus moved into a new home together and were as happy as can be still after almost 3 months of living together. It was big enough to accommodate their careers and hobbies. As soon as they were inside, Lotus attacked him with kisses. Saphirus was shocked at her sudden attack but let it happen. After a few minutes of this, Lotus coyly swept her tail under her mate's chin and pranced upstairs to their room with Saphirus following her. Wasting no time, Lotus undressed and lured her mate into another session of passionate kisses. "I really love you. And I'm so happy you proposed to me." She smiled. "I couldn't imagine my life without you in it. I knew that from the moment we started dating." He nuzzled their noses together. "Such a romantic. I think it's time you open your present now." She grinned a saucy grin. She leaned up for a kiss and saw that Saphirus was ready and waiting for her. But right as she was close enough to kiss him, Lotus pushed him aside and quickly brought the small trashcan by her bed up and vomited; much to Saphirus' surprise as well as her own. > Unexpected Surprise > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- After a few minutes of retching, Lotus panted heavily. Saphirus rubbed her back, looking very concerned. "Lotus...why didn't you tell me were feeling sick?" "I-I didn't feel sick earlier" She looked down. "And...I didn't start feeling sick till...around dessert. But I didn't want to ruin your special day, so I ignored it." "Oh Lotty, you know you don't have to keep things from me. If you weren't feeling well, we could've just had dinner at home." He hugged her gently. She blushed and drew small circles on his chest. "You know that nickname is embarrassing. Guess I know how it feels now when I call you Saphy" She mumbled, her cheeks puffed childishly. "You bet your flank, you do. Besides, it's a cute nickname." He chuckled. "But that aside, I think we should hold off on our night activities. You're in no shape for it." She looked up at him with big eyes "B-But-" "No convincing me otherwise. You're sick and it would be heartless of me to only think of myself when you're not well. Also...no offense...I'd rather not have you accidentally vomit on me." He said, laying her in bed. "Now it may be my birthday, but you are my number one concern. You stay here and I'll get you some tea for that unsettled stomach." Knowing she couldn't and shouldn't, argue with him, Lotus sighed and resigned herself to bed. "You're always so selfless, Saphy. Thank you." "It's just who I am." He nuzzled her and went to the kitchen. As Lotus laid in bed, thoughts raced through her mind. Why had she suddenly felt sick? Did she eat something bad? What if it was the soup she prepared for them? But it couldn't have been that since Saphirus seemed fine...or did he? What if he got sick after a while too? Thinking all this made her feel sick all over again and she groaned. After a little time, Saphirus came back with a cup of ginger tea. "Saphy, do you feel ok?" "What do you mean?" He asked after setting the tea on her nightstand. "You don't feel sick? At all?" She asked, taking the teacup in her magic. He stared at her and chuckled. "Lotty, you think your food made you sick? That's not possible. You're a great cook." "Yeah I know but you never know what could happen." She sighed, drinking some tea before laying down. "If you feel sick...you'd tell me right?" "Of course." He said, pulling the blanket over her. "Now you rest, if you're still sick by morning, we'll see a doctor." He kissed her forehead. "Sweet dreams, my precious flower." And with that, Lotus drifted off to sleep and Saphirus climbed into bed next to her, falling asleep beside her. ***** It was not an easy night for Lotus. Around 1 AM, she woke up and dashed to the bathroom. She felt sicker than ever and spent her entire night retching with little rest between until she passed out at some point. Lotus woke up to the sounds of her partner calling her name, highly concerned. Even with blurry vision, she saw Saphirus and behind him, saw that Celestia had already raised the sun. "Lotus, thank Celestia you're awake!" He hugged her. "How long have you been in here? You had me scared when I found you passed out in here." "S-Saphirus...I-I don't know. I suddenly felt sick so I came in here. I thought it was only a few moments." She said, sitting up weakly. "You still look really green. I'm taking you to Ponyville General. You need help." He said, helping her to her hooves. "Ok...but first...c-can I have a little privacy?" She asked. Without questioning it, and assuming it was to clean herself up, Saphirus left the bathroom. As soon as the door closed, Saphirus heard Lotus retching again. He, despite Lotus not wanting him to hear her like this, sat outside the bathroom door and waited for her. After some time, he didn't hear her anymore. When checking on Lotus again, she was passed out once more. Not wanting to waste time, he scooped her up and brought her to the carriage they used when moving into their new home. He gently placed her in the carriage (which had several pillows in it from a recent shopping trip) and took her to Ponyville General, careful not accidentally upset her stomach again. Once there, some nurses helped him take Lotus to a room. Later in the day, she woke up to some voices. One was Saphirus' and the other was a couple of nurses. Noticing she was awake, Saphirus smiled. "Lotus, how are you feeling?" "I...I think I feel alright now. But not completely any better." She sighed. "Where are we?" "Ponyville General. I brought you here when you passed out. I told the doctors you weren't feeling well." He said. "The doctor will be back in a moment." Nurse Redheart said. "With your test results." "Test results?" Lotus tilted her head. "Am I sick or something? Other than the vomiting" "Oh no, you're not sick at all." Doctor Horse said, walking in with a huge smile. "It's something else." "Tell us, doctor. Is it stress? She has been putting a lot of time into planning our wedding." Saphirus stated. "Oh stress would be a bad thing. It could negatively affect the baby." Doctor Horse said, looking down at the file he came in with. Lotus and Saphirus had wide eyes and they were both dumbfounded. After several seconds, which felt like minutes, Lotus finally spoke. "I-I'm sorry Doc. D-Did you say...b-baby?" "Hm? Oh yes, congratulations, you're having a baby. You've been pregnant for a little while now, about 8 weeks to be exact, it's just finally showing. The vomiting is simply morning sickness, which should settle in a few weeks. As it settles, it shouldn't be as frequent as it seems now." He said. Lotus was still shocked at the sudden news of a pregnancy. Thinking back, she had been feeling a little different for quite some time. Some small bouts of nausea, but nothing too worrisome. Feeling a little more tired than normal, especially in the middle of the day or days, she didn't do much. Sudden dizzy spells that stopped as soon as they started. Also, she had been eating a little more than usual, like just extra snacks throughout the day. She did also notice last night that her waistline did seem a bit...big. It all made sense. She was expecting a foal. Saphirus hugged Lotus and smiled brightly. "This is amazing. We're going to be parents." "I...It's so much sooner than we thought, though. I mean...we still haven't had the wedding yet." Lotus said, still wrapping her head around being a mother soon. "You could put it off until after you have the baby." Doctor Horse suggested. "It would be a good course of action" "If it'll keep her from stressing out and thus hurting the baby, then I'm for it," Saphirus said and looked at her. "Lotus?" Lotus shook her head. "No, I can't put the wedding on hold. We've already sent out the invites. Princess Twilight has already gone through all the trouble of helping me plan everything and Rarity is already making my dress." She rubbed the back of her head. "We can just have the wedding sooner. That should help. And after the wedding, I can take it easy." "I guess that could work. I mean, it is just a few weeks away. If everything is almost completely ready, then we can have it sooner. Though it might be late to send new invites." Saphirus rubbed his chin. "Wait, with Princess Twilight helping, it shouldn't take long." "The florists will faint though. But I think they can handle it. As I recall, even with a Bug Bear attack, Cranky and Matilda's wedding went off without a hitch." Lotus smiled. "We can make the wedding sooner. With you and everypony else helping, it'll be the perfect wedding." The doctor cleared his throat, catching Lotus and Saphirus' attention. "I still suggest you wait and rest. But the less stress you have, the better it'll be. For right now, you should rest here until you have enough strength to walk." "Yes, Doctor. And...thank you." Lotus smiled, laying down again. "Saphy, I need you to see Princess Twilight. Tell her we're changing our plans." "Alright, I'll be right back." He kissed her forehead and left. ***** "A baby?!" Six voices shouted at once. "Yes, Lotus and I are having a baby," Saphirus said. He went to Twilight's castle to talk to her about changing their wedding plans. It was sheer coincidence that the rest of the Mane 6 were there. "To put less stress on her, we decided to have the wedding sooner than expected." "Congratulations! This is such amazing news." Twilight flapped her wings in excitement. "Oh boy, y'all have got a lot on your hooves now." Applejack said, adjusting her hat. "That is a lot darling. But that aside...did you say you were pushing up the wedding date?" Rarity asked. "Yes. It would be for the best that we do. It takes some possible stress off Lotus so not to harm her or the baby." Saphirus said. "Um..h-how far is she? With her pregnancy, I mean." Fluttershy asked. "The doctor said she's only about 8 weeks pregnant. She's not really showing yet. So the dress Miss Rarity has created should fit just fine." He said. Saphirus was about to speak again when Pinkie popped up beside him. "Oh my gosh! This is amazing! I've got to throw you a party now! It can be a "Congrats-on-your-wedding-and-foal" party. And we can have on the same day as your wedding!" She gasped deeply and loudly. "A 2-for-1party!" She squealed and Saphirus immediately ducked for cover before she blew off her party cannon. "Y-Yeah. I'll talk to her about that." Saphirus chuckled nervously. "So Princess Twilight, would you be able to help us reorganize the wedding?" "Of course I'll help. I am her Mare of Honor." She smiled. "We can all help." "Heck yeah! Tell us the day and I'll keep the sky clear." Rainbow Dash said. "And Ah'll make the grub for the whole shindig." Applejack said. "Ah've got a few recipes that'll wow ya." Fluttershy poked her hooves together. "My bird choir can sing for the wedding and carry her train." "Send Lotus to me and I'll alter her dress if need be." Rarity said, flipping her mane. "Pinkie's already decided to throw a party. And, of course, I'll take care of organizing everything. Starting with invites." Twilight said. "Will there really be enough time for sending new invites? I mean, we'll have to rush now, won't we?" Saphirus asked. "No problems, we can do it. You just stay by Lotus and take over in any areas she might not be able to." Twilight said. "I can do that. Thank you, Princess." He bowed politely. > Wedding Planning Stress > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the time since discovering her pregnancy, Lotus and Saphirus worked together to plan their wedding. With Princess Twilight's help, they were able to get new invitations made and sent out, change the delivery date of the flowers, change a few things with the food, and talked with Rainbow Dash about the date to keep the skies clear. To make the planning process easier, Princess Twilight let the soon-to-be-newlyweds stay in the castle, giving them a room next to one of the several castle bathrooms. During the two days when Lotus' morning sickness was so bad she couldn't leave the bed, Saphirus would work on things when at home and at work. Rarity brought Lotus' wedding dress and Saphirus' suit to the castle for the last fitting and possible alteration, to which, not much was needed. When with Applejack, Saphirus took over tasting food for the wedding since smells would sometimes set off the morning sickness. They were more than happy to hear Fluttershy's bird choir sing. And it took almost a full morning to get through party planning with Pinkie Pie. Everything was going well. The last thing to do was to have the wedding. But the days leading up to it were unexpectedly difficult. Lotus had gotten over her morning sickness enough to have the wedding but then other changes occurred. Lotus went through constant mood swings like the drop of a hat. She would be happy one second then upset or crying the next. She tried her hardest to rein herself in and keep it together, even talking with Princess Twilight who taught her the relaxing technique learned from Princess Cadence. As they talked in the library, Lotus sighed in frustration. "I don't know if I can make it, Prin-" "Just Twilight, please. We're friends." Twilight interrupted. "O-Ok...Twilight. I don't know if I can make it. The morning sickness is one thing...but all these mood swings, I'm getting tired after half a day, I'm using the bathroom a lot more than normal, and my teats is so tender, even walking feels weird. Especially with my nippples as hard as one of Rarity's gems." She said, blushed after revealing that last part. "I've been doing some reading, and all of this is natural. The next thing that should come is cravings. Although I think that might not be too much of a problem." Twilight smiled. "Are you sure? Saphy and I do have enough food, but I eat twice my normal amount now. The cravings will have me cleaning out everything." She stamped her hoof on the ground. "Will it ever get better for me?" "Eventually, yes." Twilight pulled out a book, opening it to the chapter she needed. "But it'll get worse before it gets better." "How could it possibly get any worse?!" She huffed. "Well...while the morning sickness and fatigue should go away, you'll get swollen ankles, stretch marks, a few aches and pains here and there..." Twilight listed off more symptoms before Lotus used her magic to close the book. "Tw-Twilight...I was being sarcastic when I asked that question." She said, looking visibly shaken up. "Oh..sorry." Twilight chuckled nervously. "I don't get it! How can mares go through this? I mean I know it's a natural process and everything but it's all so much. My poor Saphy. He has to work twice as hard now." Lotus sighed and started sniffling. "This all happened so fast. Everything was going well too until this." She said, crying like a devastated child who lost their toy. Another mood swing. Twilight consoled her until it passed. ***** The day before the wedding, Princess Cadence and Prince-Captain Shining Armor arrived in Ponyville. They made their way to Twilight's castle and graciously endured the excitement in the streets at their arrival. Upon arrival, Twilight and Cadence did their usual handshake before she hugged her brother and sister-in-law. "It's so good of you to come." Twilight smiled. "And to officiate the wedding." "Of course. Though it was a sudden request. What made you think of me to officiate the wedding?" Cadence asked. "Well...it wasn't me who made the request," Twilight said. "It...It was me...Y-Your Highness." Lotus said timidly, peaking around the corner. Shining Armor was the first to look at her and smiled. "Hello there. You must be the lucky bride." "Yes, I am." She said, staying where she was. "Is something wrong? Why don't you come out?" "Because I don't want to." Lotus suddenly snap, her mood changing on a quick turn. This startled Shining for a second and he turned to his sister. "Uh...Twily...what-" "Mood swings. Lotus is also expecting a foal." Twilight informed him. "I'm so sorry. I really can't control it. Wish it would stop already." Lotus lightly kicked her hoof against the crystalline floor. "Congratulations, you must be very excited and proud." Cadence smiled, but her smile faded when she saw a mixture of anger and sadness in Lotus' eyes. "What's the matter?" "It wasn't supposed to happen like this. It feels too soon." Lotus started to pace a bit, giving them a full look at her. Lotus' mane and tail looked a bit unkempt and deflated, her eyes had bags under them like she hadn't slept for a few nights, and even with the slightly forming foal bump, she looked a little thin. "I mean, I'm happy to be getting married and I'm happy I'm going to be a mother. But so soon?!" "Sweetie, are you scared?" Cadence asked, stopping Lotus in her tracks. "I'm right, aren't I?" "Well...I...c-could be..." She mumbled to herself, poking her hoof at the floor. She stopped with Cadence came over. "Twilight, I'm going to take her to the spa. She needs to relax before her big day and for the baby's sake." "That's a great idea. And it'll help take her mind off things." Twilight smiled. "But what about the wedding? There are still last minute things to do. The food...the seating...the weather...the venue...the-" Cadence tapped her hoof on Lotus' nose, making a little boop sound for comedic effect. "No more worrying. Twilight is your Mare of Honor and one of the most organized ponies I know. Any last minute things that need doing, she's on them. And Shining can help out too." Cadence said, looking back at her husband. "I'd be more than happy to. Anything to make the biggest day of any mare's life a happy one." Shining smiled. "Now that that's settled, I'm taking you to the spa right now. A nice massage will do wonders for you." Cadence gently nudged Lotus towards the door. "But what about Saphy?" She said. "I'll let him know where you are so he doesn't worry," Twilight said, a few scrolls appearing around her and her brother. "Everything's taken care of, so let's get moving." Cadence placed an arm around Lotus as they walked. While leaving the castle, Lotus heard Twilight and Shining Armor talking about whatever was on the scrolls. ***** At the spa, Cadence and Lotus talked for their entire time there. Lotus told Cadence about how she and Saphirus met and how in love they were. To the Princess of Love, these were the best stories to ever hear. The two mares had the best treatment, as Cadence offered to pay for the whole thing. Having their hooves polished, their horns filed, mud baths, use of the steam room, and more. By the time they were finished, Lotus felt and looked better than she had in days. Once back at the castle, they went to the dining hall and were met with a wall of confetti. Twilight and her friends, prepared a little Bachelorette banquet for the bride/mother-to-be. Lotus enjoyed herself, even after hearing that Shining Armor, Spike, and Big Mac took Saphirus out for a small Bachelor party as well. When the festivities died down and everything was settled, Lotus had a good night's sleep. When dawn came, her big day would begin. > Wedding & Pregnancy > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As soon as Celestia's morning sun poured through the windows, Lotus woke up feeling relaxed. She looked over to find a note where Saphirus should've been. She picked it up in her magic and read it. Dear Lotus, I hope you slept well. You looked so peaceful sleeping when I got back, I couldn't dare to wake you. Sorry I couldn't be there when you woke up. I had a few things to take care of at work. Once I'm done, and after doing a few more things, I'll see you at the alter. I can't wait to see my lovely bride. I love you. Saphy Lotus smiled and sighed, getting out of bed. She was going to freshen up in the bathroom when she ran into Twilight. "Hello Princess Twilight." "Lotus, I told you, just call me Twilight." "Oh, yes. I'm sorry. Twilight, do I have to do anything before getting ready for the wedding?" She asked. "Hm, not really. Everything is taken care of from the venue to the catering. And of course, Pinkie is all set with your 2-in-1 party. All you have to do is relax and focus on yourself." Twilight smiled. "Breakfast is waiting in the dining room." "I'll be there." Lotus smiled, heading to the bathroom. After a nice relaxing shower, and checking her foal bump, she made her way to the dining room. To her surprise, the rest of the Mane 6 were there along with Cadence and Shining Armor. "Everypony...you're here!" "Of course we are. It's your big day after all." Rainbow Dash said. "And being with the bride on her wedding day is always a wonderful thing." Rarity smiled. Lotus took her seat and started eating. She heard the others talking around her, but all she really heard was her stomach screaming for food. She buried her face in her plate till it was clean before looking up and staring holes into the apple pie on the table. Applejack noticed Lotus drooling before her eyes wandered to the apple pie and back to Lotus. "Uh...do you...want this, Sugar Cube?" "Huh?!" Lotus snapped out of her trance and looked to see everyone staring at her. "N-No...I don't." She blushed brightly before her stomach betrayed her with a loud grumble. "Don't be ashamed. You're eating for two after all. Eat as much as you need to." Cadence smiled, levitating the pie over to Lotus. "Besides, you'll need your energy for today." Lotus buried her face into the pie like Spike and made loud slurping sounds as she devoured the pie, much to everyone's surprise. Twilight told Pinkie to double...no, triple the food at the reception for Lotus' table just to be safe. ***** Saphirus, at work, was tying up some loose ends. Dealing with his editor, he was fixing the last few chapters to his latest story. Even on his wedding day, he was relentlessly busy. Once his work day was done, he went to his scheduled meeting with the Wonderbolts leader, Spitfire, to talk about them doing a surprise aerial performance after the vows. After that, he went to the bookstore to buy some cookbooks to make meals for his expecting bride as well as several books on the topic of fatherhood and motherhood along with names for foals. "Ok...just two more things then I can get to the spa for...a last minute treatment. And then....then..." He felt his legs tremble because his wedding was mere hours away now. Once the ceremonies were over, he would be married to the mare of his dreams. "It's really happening." Saphirus ran around finishing his errands before going to the spa. He relaxed in a mud bath and got his coat sleek and shiny. Aloe and Lotus Blossom did up his hair and saw him off. He made his way to Town Hall where he got ready for his wedding. ***** About an hour before Saphirus went to the spa, Lotus went herself. She got a simple treatment and had her hair done before returning to Twilight's castle to prepare for her wedding. The dress she put on was a simple white dress with ruffles along with a two foot long train. The hem was decorated with special baby blue diamonds Rarity picked out. She even used two diamonds as clips for the sheer white wedding veil. "Wow...you look amazing." Cadence smiled, standing behind Lotus. "She's right. You look ravishing, darling. The dress really suits you." Rarity smiled, proud of herself. "Lotus, you look just like a princess on her coronation day." Twilight beamed. "Thanks. Although...I'm really nervous. What if I have a mood swing and say the wrong thing or storm out of my own wedding? What if I make a fool of myself and just skip the wedding...and go for the food?! Wh-What if-" Lotus was interrupted again from Cadence booping her nose again. "You'll do just fine. Girls, can you give us some space?" Cadence asked, Twilight and Rarity nodded and left. Lotus stared at herself in the mirror, her ears pressed against her head. Cadence approached her and smiled. "I'm so nervous...and I shouldn't be! I have to be strong for the baby. But I can't help it." "I know how you feel. All mares feel that way on their wedding day. I did too, but I was also very happy. But then I was kidnapped before my own wedding." Cadence said. "Kidnapped?! You?!" Lotus stared wide eyed. Cadence told her what happened when Queen Chrysalis kidnapped and replaced her before her wedding to Shining Armor. Even telling her how it was Twilight who saw through Chrysalis' ruse and found the real Cadence. "All that...really happened?" Lotus asked. "Yes. Thanks to Twilight, I returned to my beloved and with our love combined, we defeated Chrysalis and her army. Then in the same day, Shining and I were married with no more complications." Cadence giggled. "You see, as long as your love is strong, everything will be alright. Saphirus knows you better than anypony else and would never thinks less of you." Lotus looked down and smiled. "You're right. He's kind and sweet and would probably laugh if I had a sudden craving attack in the middle of our wedding. He accepts me with all my flaws. And I do the same for him." Taking a deep, calming breath and releasing it, Lotus walked to the door. "I'm ready. Let's get to the wedding venue. My groom is waiting." ***** The wedding venue was packed and buzzing with every citizen in Ponyville. Saphirus was standing by the bridge waiting for Lotus. Fluttershy was already there setting up her bird choir while Rainbow Dash did last minute weather checks before joining up with the Wonderbolts. Rarity was making picky last minute adjustments to the decorations while Applejack did her best to keep Pinkie Pie in order (and away from the food). Shining Armor was standing nearby and making sure Saphirus didn't go into panic mode, which he looked like he was close to. Saphirus looked at the crowd gathered and felt his legs beginning to turn to jelly. "What am I doing here? I can't do this!! Why did I think I could? Ugh! Why did I think I could possibly make Lotus happy?" He thought. "Hey...you ok?" Shining asked, snapping Saphirus out of his thoughts. "Huh?! Oh...yeah...I-I'm fine. Just nervous." "Look buddy, it's gonna be fine. Just relax." Shining smiled. "Look, they're here." Saphirus looked up to see a carriage had pulled up a little ways away from the crowd. When the door opened, Twilight and Cadence stepped out and walked down the aisle and took their placed. Moments later, everyone was abuzz upon seeing Lotus step out. Saphirus was nearly blown away with how stunning she looked. Once she was standing next to him, they walked a little ways up the bridge to where Cadence was standing to begin the ceremony. "Fillies and Gentlecolts. We are gathered here today to unite these two loving ponies, Lotus Moon and Saphirus. The love between these two is strong and has stood up to the...well...complications they've faced leading up to this day. But I have no doubt that they will face more challenges and conquer them all. And now for the vows." While Cadence asked Lotus if she accepts Saphirus as her husband through all odds, Saphirus stared at his bride. He was so captivated by her, it took Shining poking a hoof into his side so he could say "I do" when his turn came. As soon as the rings were exchanged and Cadence pronounced the couple husband and wife, there was a sudden explosion from a Sonic Rainboom and a heart shaped rainbow streaked across the sky followed by different colors streaking through the sky. The audience applauded and cheered while Lotus and Saphirus stared in awe. "Wow...it's so...so beautiful." Lotus smiled. Saphirus gave a quiet hoof pump to himself. The wedding went off without a hitch and the reception was just as successful. Aside from Pinkie getting a little too crazy and Lotus gorging herself on nearly three or four plates of food, everything went fine. After the celebrations, Saphirus and Lotus went to their home to settle down for the night. "Well, it's finally official. We're married." Saphirus blushed. "Yeah." Lotus laid her head on his shoulder. "It all feels like a dream. But a perfect one." Saphirus looked at the ring on Lotus' horn and then the one around his neck and smiled softly. "Yeah. Absolutely perfect." > Uncomfortable Conflict > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time passed by and Lotus' pregnancy went more or less smoothly. She and Saphirus took care to make sure nothing would happen to complicate things. During doctors visits, they agreed to not know the baby's gender until the time came. They turned a spare room into a nursery for their foal and filled it with baby toys from their recent foal shower, courtesy of Pinkie Pie. The couple even read up on what to do to not stress new mothers out as well as what to do to prepare for delivery. The only thing they didn't agree on was baby names. "Seriously? Why would we name our child Topaz Moon? What if it's a colt?" Saphirus sighed, shaking his head. "And why a gemstone?" "Oh, and Shadow is any better? Not only do we not know if the baby is a colt or a filly...we don't even know what species they are!" Lotus snapped. She was laying in bed on her side, her stomach was full term and nearly ready to pop. Saphirus stomped his hoof in frustration. "I know we said we'd wait and all...but now we kinda need to know." He said. "That way we can come up with a suitable name." "I don't WANT to KNOW! I want it to be a surprise!!" Lotus growled, lighting up her horn, something she did when she was frustrated. Saphirus gulped and his ears pressed against his head as he backed away slowly. "L-Lotus...c-calm down, please. No need to get worked up." "Worked up? Worked up?!! I'll show you worked up!!!" She struggled to get up and growled. "FCK!!!!! FCKING SHT SUGAR SS GAAAAAAAAH!!!!!" Lotus huffed and planted her face in her pillow. Her ears were pinned against her head in frustration. "Uh...h-hun...are yo-" "Shut up and go get me some strawberry and cream swirl ice cream from Sugar Cube Corner along with several apple treats from Sweet Apple Acres and a dozen daisy sandwiches from the cafe." She huffed, her nostrils flaring. "Yes, dear." He sighed. Saphirus trotted down the steps and went running the new errands he was given. ***** "Hey, AJ. Can I get some of your famous treats?" Saphirus asked. "Sure thing. What would ya- I know that look" Applejack said, looking at Saphirus and sighed. "Another disagreement food run?" She asked, earning a nod from the stallion. "Oh Sugar Cube. I'm so sorry. What was it about this time?" "Names for the baby. We agreed to not know the baby's gender till it has been born...but that makes it harder to come up with a proper name. So it's like we try to come up with something we can both agree on, but we just can't. On top of that, she's always cranky since she can hardly move. And she doesn't want to use the teleportation spell Princess Twilight taught her since she thinks it'll hurt the baby." Saphirus rubbed the back of his head. Applejack was packing one of each treat in a bag while Saphirus spoke. "Ah'm sorry, Sugar Cube. But that's what happens with mares during pregnancy. When ma mom was pregnant with Apple Bloom, Big Mac and I would stay far away when she got into one of her moods. Just left it up to dad. Give it time and she'll get better." She handed it to him. "Here you go. 25 bits please." "25? But what's in there is worth at least 40 bits." "Ah know, but I'm givin' ya a discount for yer troubles." The orange farmpony smiled. "Thanks, AJ. Now to just go to the cafe for the daisy sandwiches and then to Sugar Cube Corner." He sighed. "I'll see you later." "Good luck." AJ waved as he left. Saphirus went to the cafe to get the sandwiches but also went to the market to go ingredient shopping. He hoped to make Lotus an appropriate dinner after she's cooled off. He tried being positive about this whole thing since it was a normal occurrence now. At least, for a little while longer. As he made his way to Sugar Cube Corner, he thought about what he was going to ask Mr. and Mrs. Cake how they handled their pregnancy. Despite reading all the books, he was still curious. Upon arriving at the bakery, he was greeted by the energetic ball of pink that is Pinkie Pie. She was playing around with Pound and Pumpkin Cake...or rather...trying to catch them. Pound Cake was flying everywhere and anywhere while Pumpkin Cake was preoccupied using her magic to fly around with her brother. Saphirus trotted up to the counter to make his order but his eyes drifted to the foals mischievously playing with their sitter. His thoughts drifted to how things would be with his own foal. Would he and Lotus walk into their home to find it in chaos with a sitter chasing their pegasus foal around? Would they find the sitter strung up by uncontrollable baby unicorn magic? Or would they come home to a tidy home and their foal sound asleep in bed? So many questions soon to be answered. "Here you go, dearie." Mrs. Cake said, sliding a container with the frozen treat to the blue stallion. "Thank you. Um...Mrs. Cake...can I ask something?" Saphirus set the treat in this saddle bag, hoping it wouldn't melt before he got home. "Sure." "What's it like being a parent? " "Come again?" She blinked. "I know it's weird to ask since...I'll know soon enough...but what's it like?" "Well, it's not something that can be explained. It's just something that just comes into focus once your foal is born." Mrs. Cake said and looked at her children. "Once Pound and Pumpkin were born, it was an instant connection. I felt like nothing could top the moment I became a mother. Not even having one of our desserts win first prize in a baking contest." She giggled. "Is it hard at times?" "Oh absolutely. At first, we were so focused on the babies, most other things became an afterthought till we remembered. Even with Pinkie here, at times, our main focus is Pound and Pumpkin. But at the end of the day, having them has been the best thing that's ever happened to me and Mr. Cake. Wouldn't trade it for anything in all of Equestria." She beamed. Saphirus smiled and thought about it. Wouldn't trade it for anything in all of Equestria, huh? Sounds nice. Wonder if I'll feel that way. ***** When Saphirus got home, he noticed the atmosphere was different. A phonograph was playing romantic music and there was the smell of lavender in the air. He quickly went to put the frozen treat in the fridge before he set his bag down and went upstairs. He carefully walked up to his room and stood at the door. Is this a trap? It has to be. I know she's gotta be still mad because she can usually stay mad for days. He thought. His mind raced...until he heard his wife. "Saphy, come in darling. Please~" "O..Ok..." He gulped. Using her cute voice. That's a sign she wants something...something that usually leads to trouble. He took a deep breathe and entered the room, only for his jar to drop. In their room, his wife was wearing a white sweater with no back to it and a short portion of the fabric around her neck. Where the sweater ended exposed her firm, supple rump and Cutie Mark. It was a bit unconventional considering how big she was now, but nonetheless, was very attractive on her when paired with the seductive smirk on her lips. Saphirus could only stare in curious awe. "Gonna just stand there...or are you gonna come to cuddle your wife?" She purred. He shook his head. "Lotty, don't get me wrong, I really want to. But you were really pissed at me just a little over two hours ago. Why the sudden change?" "I realized how stubborn I've been. My constant mood changes haven't been good for either of us...including the baby. I'm sorry for everything I've put you through. I just wanted to make up for that now. Now come on up here and let's cuddle like we used to." He hesitated a bit, but Saphirus climbed into bed and cuddled behind his wife. Out of a small habit, he started gently rubbing her stomach, earning little shifts from their unborn foal. Lotus sighed contently and rolled onto her back so he could rub her stomach more, her exposed back resting flat against the bed. "That feels nice. In so many ways." She smiled, placing a hoof on the other side of her stomach. "I can imagine. You like it too, don't you?" He whispered, referring to the baby. "I do wish the earlier stages would've lasted a bit longer...maybe not the symptoms, but my body was more attractive then." She sighed. "Lotty, don't say that. You're still very attractive. Even more even! You're glowing." He smiled. And he wasn't lying. Lotus had the obvious motherly glow about her, and it made her all the more beautiful. "Attractive enough to mate?" She blushed. "Of course" he smiled but blushed. "Wait...Lotus...I don't know if that's a good idea. I mean, what about the baby?" "C'mon. Just for a little. It's been so long. And this pregnancy has me a little hotter than ever. Besides, we still have time before the baby comes. I'm sure it'll be ok." Lotus looked up at him with slightly pleading but reassuring eyes. Seeing those, and after a little more convincing, he could hardly refuse her anymore. "Ok. Just one time." He nuzzled her before kissing her gently. Lotus had butterflies in her stomach. More than the first time they made love. This was more than a whole new experience for them, it was a once in a lifetime thing. The tingling sensation that ran through her warmed her nether region to the point where she thought she was on fire. She had hardly noticed that Saphirus was leaving a trail of kisses down her chest to her stomach then to her teats and marehood. A quiet moan escaped her lips. "S-Saphy, your tongue is really warm." "And you're pretty wet. You missed mating that much, huh?" "Any mare going through a pregnancy would. Nothing I used gave as much satisfaction as you do. Not even stuff in the catalogs." She mumbled the last part, but it didn't go unheard. "Catalogues? Lotty, what have you been up to?" He looked at her, seeing a bright blush on her pouty cheeks. She sighed softly. "I...I've been using substitutes to take care of myself when I get really hot. I didn't do it often, but it's like each time I used it, the heat got worse. I even tried ignoring it...till now." "Let me guess...you saw one of the ads in a magazine and tried it out?" He smiled, seeming genuinely understanding. "H-How did you know?" "Because I saw the same thing around the time you started showing." He kissed her stomach. "I wasn't too interested because I didn't need any substitutes for my beautiful wife." Lotus was about to say something when a gasp escaped her lips as her husband had begun pleasuring a new area. Saphirus' lips wrapped around one of her sensitive nipples while his hoof gently rubbed the other. Since Lotus' teats have grown, they were more sensitive than she anticipated and finally giving them some attention caused her left hind leg to twitch. Hot pants and moans escaped from Lotus. "Saphy that's not fair. I want to return the favor." Her horn lit up as her magical aura surrounded and stroked his cock. ***** The room was filled with hot moans and the scent of estrus. Light slapping sounds could be heard as Lotus' rump met Saphirus' waist in their spooning position. Each of Saphirus' thrusts was slow and gentle for his mate's comfort. He thrust down to his medial ring and paused there, enjoying the feeling of Lotus' cunt convulsing around his pulsating, thick shaft. Words didn't need to be exchanged between them as the couple stared into each other's eyes lovingly. He knew how and when to move and when to stop from her expressions and knowing when he was close to reaching his limit. When he was right on the edge of climax, he gave several drawn out thrusts before shooting thick ribbons of stallion juice inside of her. Lotus had to bury her face in her pillow as the moan she released would've loud enough for Princess Celestia to hear in Canterlot. The pair panted hotly as they remained connected. Basking in the afterglow of their long overdue session, Lotus let out an exhausted chuckle. "That was just as magical...as the first time we mated." She smiled. "Yeah. Wow. I had no clue that you were repressing so much." He nuzzled her. "Sorry to make you wait so long." "It's ok. It made this moment worth it. Though I don't know if I'd be able to do it again." She placed her hoof on his. "Once the baby comes, you'll have to. I mean you will need time to recover...and we'll be pretty focused on raising the new addition to our family." He reminded her, earning a small sarcastic groan from her. "I know. But every day will be full of happiness and love." "Yeah, and so much more." "Saphy, I know we always seem to fight about this, but I wanted to know if you thought of any more names for the baby." She said but got no response. "Saphy?" She looked back to see that he had fallen asleep, exhausted from nearly three hours of mating. Smiling to herself, Lotus lit up her horn and carefully slid his penis out of her love tunnel with a quiet pop at the end. Being careful to not make too much of a mess, she cleaned both of them up before pulling their blanket over them. "I love you Saphy. Sweet dreams...and sweet dreams to you as well, my little jewel." She whispered to her stomach before dozing off herself. > It's Time! > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- With a month and a half left before the baby was to come, Saphirus spent all of his days off from work with Lotus. And even though she didn't like it, she consented to him pushing her around in a wheelchair when she didn't use magic to do it herself. They made their usual visits to Ponyville General to check on the baby and know what to do when it was time. Lotus and Saphirus didn't fight over what to name their child as they wrote down each name as a possibility once they knew the gender of the baby. Currently, they were in their living room with Lotus laying on the couch and Saphirus nuzzling her belly while talking to the baby. "...and you're going to make lots of friends in school. You're also going to have the best teacher, Miss Cherilee. She's everypony's favorite teacher in all of Ponyville. Then one day, when the time is right, you'll discover your special talent and get your Cutie Mark." He smiled. "You're going to be saying that last part a lot. Especially when they get to be the age where actually waiting to get their Cutie Mark will be frustrating." Lotus giggled. "Well, love, every filly and colt goes through that. It's to be expected." He stood up. "I'll get you some cake and tea." Her ears perked at the thought of a snack and Saphirus chuckled. He trotted off into the kitchen to get her snack. Happy that her appetite had settled from what it was before, he picked off a slice of strawberry shortcake and started brewing up a pot of tea. Lotus rubbed her stomach, smiling with a dreamy look in her eyes. She thought back on how far she and her husband have come. From their first meeting to the first time they made love. Even after that when they received the shocking news about her pregnancy. That may have been the first time she felt unsure of things for a moment. She had doubts about how good a mother she would be, in fact, those doubts did resurface from time to time. Looking down at her stomach, Lotus felt reassured that she'd be a fine mother to her foal. Not only that, she knew she and Saphirus would be wonderful parents no matter what life threw at them. "Mommy and daddy love you. And we'll always protect you." She whispered, earning a bit of movement from their foal. "You bet your flank we will," Saphirus said, snapping Lotus out of her thoughts. He walked over to her with a tray balanced on his head, no doubt holding her cake and tea. She could smell the soothing scent of Jasmine tea and it put her at ease. Using her magic, she levitated the contents of the tray over but didn't see any tea. "Sorry Lotty, the tea will be ready soon. I'll be back with it." "It's ok Saphy, take your time." She smiled and started eating. The first bite of cake was heavenly. She had cut back on things she ate, including cake. So having this treat now made her as happy as a filly getting rewarded for her good grades. "So yummy." It wasn't long after that she heard the squeal of the pot, signifying that the tea was ready, and moments later saw Saphirus return with the tray balanced on his head. "Your tea is ready." He smiled, continuing to enjoy a peaceful evening with Lotus. ***** When at work, Saphirus sometimes found it hard to focus. Even though there was time, he found himself worrying that Lotus would have their foal much earlier than anticipated. Nearly every day he would rush home to find her napping on the couch or recently returned home from a craving run. One time, he ran around Ponyville like a mad stallion till he found her at Sugar Cube Corner chatting with Mrs. Cake. With just one more month left to go, he had begun to settle down a bit but was also always on high alert just to be safe. But even in his absence, he knew she was in good hooves as Lotus was with Fluttershy and Applejack for the day. They were coming by with plans of a Critter Picnic. There was no chance of anything going wrong...right? He thought so until his walk home was interrupted by a soft, panicked voice calling his name. Looking around, Saphirus saw Fluttershy coming in for a landing. She panted and with a slightly frazzled look tried being as calm as she could manage. "Saphirus, thank goodness I found you." "What's the matter Fluttershy? Why do you look...well...more panicked than usual?" He asked. "W-We were at our picnic...and...and...everything was going well. But..." Fluttershy seemed to be sucking in more air than she could manage in order to speak. Saphirus poked her nose with his hoof, causing Fluttershy to stop speaking. 'Wow, I didn't think that would work on anypony other than Lotus. Thank you, Princess Cadence.' He thought, placing his hoof on Fluttershy's shoulder. "Now Fluttershy, calmly tell me what's wrong." "It's Lotus! She...She's heading the hospital!" Fluttershy squeaked and Saphirus lost whatever sense of calm he had. "What?! Why?! What happened? Is she ok?" He questioned. "She said she felt some pain in her stomach, but then said they weren't too bad. But then she looked like she was in a lot of pain. AJ rushed her to Ponyville General while I searched for you." Fluttershy informed him before pushing off the ground. "Come on, we have to get there now." And without wasting any time, Saphirus and Fluttershy rushed to the hospital. Once they had arrived, Saphirus nearly demanded Lotus' room number then made a mad dash there. When he finally stopped to catch his breath, he realized he could be in time to support his wife or have missed everything. With a little encouragement from Fluttershy, he walked in and saw the orange farmpony standing next to the bed where Lotus lay. "Howdy, Sugar Cube. Glad you made it." Applejack said then complimented Fluttershy before they both made their way out of the room. Saphirus approached the bed and smiled softly. "How are you feeling?" "Ready for this to be over." Lotus sighed softly. She looked fairly exhausted as she rubbed her stomach. "This little one seems to be impatient." "I'm surprised. We still had one month left to go." He held her hoof. "But nevertheless, it's almost time. We'll finally get to meet our foal." "Yes, and then life will only get better." She smiled but suddenly let out a shriek that alerted Saphirus. "I think...it's time now...ahh!" Not wasting a moment, Saphirus quickly called for help before returning to Lotus' side as Doctor Horse and a few nurses rushed in. They begin prepping for the task ahead while Saphirus did his best to help Lotus as best he could. ***** After a few hours in labor, the cries of a newborn baby were heard. Doctor Horse congratulated the new parents while Nurse Red Heart handed Lotus their baby. Their baby was a unique foal. The baby was an ombre white earth pony filly with black hair. Her hooves blended down from white to baby pink, her muzzle and a diamond birthmark on her forehead had the same shade of pink. Upon opening her eyes, it was discovered they were a shade of gorgeous sapphire blue. "She's gorgeous." Saphirus smiled. "Yes...she is...our little Gradient Diamond." Lotus smiled, cradling their child. "Gradient Diamond? I like it." Saphirus smiled. He nuzzled his wife and child lovingly. "We're gonna take good care of her." Lotus nuzzled their baby and nodded in agreement. They were finally a family and were happy. Now I know how the Cakes felt with their twins came. Mrs. Cake was right. I wouldn't trade this moment for anything in all of Equestria. Saphirus thought happily.
