> Diamond and the Dragon > by tgb089 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was another humid, quiet night in Ponyville. Except, a pony with a tiara was not particular happy. Who goes by the name, Diamond Tiara. At the home of the Apples in Sweet Apple Acres, Diamond Tiara was sulking and ranting towards Apple Bloom. “Can you believe it Apple Bloom! That nerve of him standing up on our date and leaving a note to break up!? He doesn’t have the guts to say it front of my face! Then accuse me for the reason for the break up! Gah!” She was venting and acting hysterical towards Apple Bloom. Apple Bloom had an unsteady smile. “Move on Diamond Tiara. Ah sure he was uh… intimidated.” “Intimated? By me? What!” Diamond glared at Apple Bloom. Apple Bloom returned a stern stare back on Diamond. “Well, first ya really pressuring the poor guy on being yer coltfriend. Telling him what to do and always expecting a compliment. And every time he doesn’t do what ya expected, ya blow in his face! Ah surprised he ran out of town! An’ this is yer fifth coltfriend!” Apple Bloom didn’t tried to hold back and just laid down cold hard truth. Was I that demanding? And I frighten him out of town! Diamond shouted internally. Diamond’s red face was slowly turning back to her usual pink. She bitten her lower lip and lowered her head in contemplation. Realizing that Diamond was having a moment of self-reflection, Apple Bloom walked towards her and put a hoof on her shoulder with a worrying expression. She sat Diamond back down to the sofa. “Ah been noticing that ya eyeing stallions like a timber wolf stalking little critters from the shadow. Are ya okay? Is getting a coltfriend a big deal?” Apple Bloom tried to comfort her and wanted to get to the bottom of this. They been friends for almost a decade since they reconciled back in grade school. Overtime they became good friends with a few bumps on the road. Overtime, Diamond was left with supervising the trade emporium and distribution center in Ponyville, when both her parents left for Manehatten for other business opportunities. Just left her a big mansion and responsibilities of the business in Ponyville. Diamond sighed. She wasn't the most eager pony to expose herself, but in front of her long-time friend, she needed to get something out her chest. Diamond looked around the room to make sure that there are no eavesdroppers and spoke in a whisper. “Well, everyone is getting paired up!” Well, as a whisper can be. Apple Bloom took a step back putting her hooves to her ears. “Excuse me?” “Everyone got a special pony in their life, you too. Even Snips and Snails got a marefriend. Snips and Snails! Can you believe it? Then Silver Spoon got married and moved to Canterlot. I’m just feeling… left out.” Diamond’s ears drooped, spread her back on the sofa, and laid her head on the arm of the sofa. "It's just been a teeny-bit frustrating." Apple Bloom sat down back to her chair opposite of the sofa and be honest with her opinion. “Look Diamond, findin’ “the one” takes time. Ah didn’t realize my feelings for Pipsqueak till many years. We maybe marefriend and coltfriend now, but ah wouldn’t know how long it will last. Relationships is a give n’ take. Ya don’t demand love, ya have to feel it here.” Applebloom places her hoof over her chest where heart supposed to be. Diamond gave another sigh like this is the most cliché thing she heard. But she had read many conversations like this from romance novels she been reading. Cliché as it was, Apple Bloom did have a point. Her usual aggressive tactics were not getting anywhere. “Then what do I do now? Wait a month, a year, a decade for that special pony to make my heart explode or whatever? I’m not getting younger Apple Bloom.” Said Diamond, giving Apple Bloom a pleading look for answers. “Pffft! Ya not exactly old either Diamond. Ya still young n’ hot stuff.” Diamond blushed by such a comment. “When ya meet that special somepony, ya know it. Maybe it some pony ya already know but haven’t felt that kind of feeling for them yet. It may take time. Don’t be like me being desperate for my cutie mark back then. Ya know how those turn out, hehe. Buuuut… If ya really feel desperate, ah think ya should try this.” Diamond gave a quizzical look before Apple Bloom reach over to drawer to get a piece of paper and flashed it in front of Diamond’s face. Ponyville’s Singles Night Chat with bachelors and bachelorettes in the friendliest place in Equestria. Location: Princess Twilight Sparkle’s Crystal Tree of Harmony Time: Friday, 8 PM Endorsed By: Princess Twilight Sparkle and the Friendship Council Diamond read it over and over to make sure it wasn’t a ruse. “It’s real. Ah got it from my sister an’ she is also going as well.” “Do you think I’m so desperate that I need to attend to a loners’ get together?” “Woah woah woah. My sister is also a loner and it’s probably be a good thing for her too. To ya as well. What the worst can happen?” Apple Bloom shrugged. Diamond grimaced at the thought at meeting other loners or admit herself as one as well. Seeing Diamond on the fence with this opportunity, Apple Bloom said, “Just sleep on it. Ya got three days to think about it.” Diamond just nodded her head, then Apple Bloom gave her a hug and walk her out of her house. While Diamond making her way back home. She looked up at Luna’s moon and stars and replayed in her mind on what Apple Bloom said, over and over. Diamond hadn't been lucky with the stallions she picked lately and she doesn’t have romantic or physical attractions for the mares. At least not a mare she knows that gave off that feeling. I’m not ugly, I know that. I might be a bit pushy, sure. I’m rich but I don’t want someone to be with me for that. But why I’m not getting nowhere? “Love is stupid!” Diamond yelled to no one in the night. Diamond finally reached her residence. She went through the large golden gate and walk through the lavish, white doors. It was very silent and lack of warmth in this huge mansion. She was a grown mare now and she can take care of herself - except for cooking and cleaning. Those were the jobs for the maids. Since it’s late, everyone was asleep. Diamond went straight towards her room and face planted on her pillow, on her king size bed. “Should I give up?” Said Diamond with her face still in the pillow. Only silence replied to her. No one to comfort her or share warmth with. Only silence and coldness that were left. Diamond dragged a blanket over herself and hug her pillow. She turned her head to look outside the window. Just staring at the night’s sky. In a crystal tree castle on the same night, there was another lonely soul. “This will be perfect! I been planning this for a whole month since you got back Spike.” Twilight, Starlight Glimmer, and Pinkie Pie were decorating the ballroom in the crystal castle to prepare the singles’ night event. Setting up tables, chairs, and stage. “Twilight, this is unnecessary. I don’t need a special somepony or whatever. I just came back and just want to spend time with friends and family.” Spike spoke with anxiety in his voice. Why did I tell Twilight I wish I have a marefriend! It was a joke! Spike was internally agonizing with how this resulted in the Twilight trying to act as a love matchmaker. “This will help a lot of ponies! There are a lot of single ponies out there from this year’s consensus. So liven up.” “Yeah! Yeah! Liven up Spike! This party will be a blast!” Said Pinkie. Who is hopping around throwing streamers and balloons. Spike placed his claw over his eyes groaning. What can he do? Nothing. The dice had been cast and Spike can only endure until that day past. Spike let the girls do their thing and left quietly into his new room with a higher ceiling than his old room. He no longer had his stubby legs and tiny body. He grew up to look more like a full-fledged dragon. Standing on his four limbs and his neck stretch to its limit, he can be as tall as 25 ft. Who would love a full grown dragon? Who knows how far he would grow in the future? Right, the future. How old would he be to outlive his love ones? Spike opened the large window of his room and place his head on the window sill. He only got his heart broken once. He didn't want to go through that again. Plus, if he didn’t go, Twilight and Pinky will bothered him to no end. He can only hope that no one spark an interest in him and let the day past. > Chapter 2 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was the night of "Ponyville's Singles Night" event. Anyone who seeks for a romantic companion came. Hearts and Hooves Day was just three months away. Why not try to get a colt/mare-friend now than later? "Alright everypony! Each of you have a name tag and a number. Please go to your designated seats and begin talking about yourselves within the allotted time limit," said Twilight on a platform. Every attendees followed her instructions and began sitting in their seats and taking turns introducing themselves to the pony in front of them. After the time limit, stallions moved to the next table and repeated the process. After that, it was free time for anybody to introduce themselves to those they haven't meet yet or get to know more. There were many ponies who came to this event. Spike came like he was told by Twilight to his dismay. Spike was leaning his body against the wall, smirking as he watched a few ponies fumble in front of the opposite gender. Twilight really made this point by numbers, thought Spike. Spike was very informed about the activities that Twilight planed for tonight. The interviews, dancing, dinner with your most desire partner, and then a closing speech. It's up to each of the individual's choice to whether or not to take the next step with the pony they like the most here. Hey, maybe make friends here instead. Spike gazed the ballroom side to side checking who's here. There's Applejack, that barber, a construction worker, Cheerilee, Roseluck, and ... is that Diamond Tiara? Spike squinted his eyes to get a better look. It sounds like she was barraging words at the green stallion who was sinking down into his chair. Spike pitied this poor stallion. Then Twilight came to his side and nudge him and said, "So, any mare out there catching your eye? Huh huh." Twilight continuing nudging him. Spike shrugged his shoulders and gave a noncommittal reply, "Just watching Twilight." "Okay~~ If there is someone who caught your eye, don't hesitate to act. Or if a mare might be coming to you, don't chicken out." Spike was about to talk back but Twilight suddenly used a teleporting spell to appear right back on the stage. She levitated up a clipboard and began examining each table and pony. After two hours or so, Twilight tapped on the microphone and said, "Alright everypony. The next thing on the list is dancing! We have DJ PON-3 and Pinkie Pie as her assistant to play some music! Mingle and dance with many ponies as you can and shake that booty! COFF COFF I mean, please enjoy your time." Several giggles and cheers were made. Once the music start to play, everyone was at first nervous. After a few moments, few brave stallions came up to the mares. There were more mares than stallions, so a few mares didn't hesitate to take another mare to the dance floor. Before long, mostly everyone began walking towards the dance floor and exchanging dance partners. Soon it became a mosh pit in front of the stage where DJ PON-3 was playing. "IS EVERYONE HAVING A GOOD TIME!?" Pinkie was screaming in the microphone! The ponies reply with howling and stomping of their hooves! The music continued to play loud and proud, shaking the whole crystal tree. It became a chaotic concert before Twilight's eyes. Spike chuckled and can't help but tapped his claw with the rhythm of the music. Spike again scanned the room and noticed not everyone was getting in the mood. Diamond was probably the only pony who haven't stepped on the dance floor yet. Diamond watched the raving crowd and then caught Spike staring at her. Both were now observing each other but only for a moment. I came but these stallions are a bunch of blah! Thought Diamond. Once the music started to play, no one offered a hoof to her. If she came to the dance floor, would anyone dance with her? Now it became a giant pot of craze ponies in front of a famous musician, who had a history to hype the crowd. Why did Twilight bring such a pony to a event that meant to be romantic? But it was a blessing in disguise for Diamond. At least no one will notice her being alone except for a certain dragon. From the beginning to now, the purple dragon just leans on that wall and yawns sometimes. Diamond had no idea why this large dragon was even here. He did had a certain familiarity, who does he remind her of? Soon the music came to an end, leaving the ponies exhausting, hungry, and thirsty. Now, it's time for dinner. The main point was to eat with the pony you desired the most to be with, and look whose by herself. There were a few tables where there were more than 2 ponies. Some became a group of date of sorts. What the hell! Diamond was internally furious! Twilight didn't seem to stop this kind of action and wrote down notes on her clipboard. This is the most embarrassing night of my life. Diamond placed her face on both of her hooves. Was she that undesirable? But the other chair of the table where she was sitting suddenly move away. It was the dragon! He was kinda big, practically surrounding the table with his entire body. Am I going to get eaten? "Hello Diamond Tiara. Long time, no see." Diamond blinked twice. Did she hear wrong? How does this dragon knew her? "Sorry but who are you?" Diamond gave a quizzical look at him. Then the purple dragon also blinked and laugh out loud! He drew everyone's attention with his laughter and it wasn't funny to them. They all felt nervous with him here. How can no one notice him? He is like black spot on a beautiful landscape painting. Everyone may be nervous but since Twilight didn't mind him, they thought they wouldn't be a problem. Spike wiped his tears and said, "It's me, Spike!" "Spike!" Diamond does a double-take and looked over him again. Violet scales, emerald spikes, curve horns, polish and sharp claws, and folded wings. Spike had been gone for years and he became so different. Unrecognizable even, different from baby Spike. Several ponies was also shown a face of shock. Spike ignored the stares and looked at the food on the table. "If you don't eat, it's gonna get cold." Diamond snapped back, "Who do you think you are! Going to my table and acting like my date!" Spike's response was a shrug and called for the caterer to also get him something, a lot of it. A giant, silver platter fill with sweets, gems, and roasted vegetables appeared before Spike. Now everyone was calming down and continue eating their meals and chatting. Diamond was grumbling under her breathe and chewed loudly. To break the silence and soothe Diamond's irritation, Spike decided to speak up first. "How's the singles' night going for you? I didn't expect you to be here." "Think I'm too good for this little loners get together!" Diamond smacked the table. "Ah. I see now." Spike continued eating. "See what? Got something to say? Then say it!" After crunching on some gems and swallowing it, he said, "I see now why no one likes you! Bwahahaha!" Diamond fumed and tossed her bowl of soup at him! Again, everyone gasped, including Twilight and Pinkie Pie. Do you know who did was? Not only he's an official diplomat for Equestria, he's also consider to be royal family member of Princess Twilight and Princess Celestia! After a moment of silence, Diamond finally realized like a brick hitting her head. Oh no! Oh no! What have I done!?! "I...I...I..." Diamond was stuttering, she doesn't know what to say. She can't escape with his long tail blocking the way! Spike used his long, thin tongue to lick the soup on his head and picked up the bowl off his head with his claws. He didn't look angry or furious but stared keenly at Diamond like he was looking at a prey. Diamond never been this frighten before, but against the nightmarish outcome she imagined, Spike apologizes... "Sorry, that was my bad. I didn't mean to laugh at you or anything," he said in a soft tone. It wasn't a big deal for Spike. Something as small as this incident is not worthy to get angry over. But he was slightly annoyed with her temper. Spike looked at his empty platter and touched his belly. He stretched his back and wings and said, "Well, I gonna turn for the night. It's nice seeing you again Diamond Tiara. You grown to a fine mare but take some anger management. They help." Diamond lowered her head with burning cheeks and sweating beads. Spike left the ballroom, leaving everyone staring at the door and back at Diamond. Diamond lifted her head to see Twilight. Hoping to not see an angry face but against her expectations, there was a gleeful smile on Twilight's face. After the dinner, the whole event came to a close. It definitely will become the talk of the town tomorrow morning. Once the clean up was done, Twilight teleported herself in Spike's room. Spike was still awake, reading a book. He glanced at the appearing Twilight and see her goofy grin. "No," Spike said. Twilight nods her head and Spike shakes his head side to side, rejecting Twilight's assumptions. > Chapter 3 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike had his mini fun at the event and went to his room. He was reading a recent released novel, just minding his own business. Then certainly, Twilight popped out of nowhere with a wide grin on her face. Spike sighed, knowing Twilight was just making wild assumptions between him and ... Diamond Tiara. Twilight and Spike had their shaking head game enough to feel sick. Before Twilight got any bright ideas, Spike had to put his claw down. "Twilight. Just because I sit down on the same table as her, doesn't mean -" "I know, I know. It doesn't mean you like her, buuuut... You can't deny you don't have an interest." Twilight's eyes sparkled. Spike can only wept, Twilight was gaining too much interest in this. "You need to ask her out on a date," she said. "No." Spike growled a little afterwards. "Sorry, I already sent a invitation!" As she quickly appeared, she disappeared. Spike was left dumbstruck and let out a groan. Diamond was currently in her father's old study room in the mansion which was now hers. When Diamond took over, she moved the desk with it's back facing the arch window. So she can enjoy the scenery outside. Diamond had received a letter from Twilight when she left last night. It brought a lot of anxiety in her. Was it a letter of how she poorly displayed herself? Punishment? A court order?! She buckled up and decided to read the letter. It was an invite to the Grand Galloping Gala as Spike's date! She can't fathom why in all Equestria would he chose her, the one who threw food at him! Is this really from him? Diamond began to become skeptical. She looked around the letter and envelope. There were no specific symbols, wax seal stamps, or from so and so. The letter was on her desk when she came in the room this morning. What was he thinking? Or her highness? Diamond opened the top draw of her desk and pulled a mirror with a silver frame and handle. She looked at herself in the mirror and flipped her mane. Her mane was as long enough to cover her neck. The ends of her mane had a bit of a curl. Her signature look was a tiara upon her head. Over the years, Diamond built a small collection of tiaras of various designs, materials, and designers. Diamond took a good look at herself and wonder what he saw in her? She turned her head side to side, lifted her chin, and touched her mane. Diamond shook her head wondering why was she unconsciously checking herself. Whether this is from Spike or the princess, I must decline. Diamond sighed. Maybe I should take a break from the dating scene and stay single. Later the next day, Diamond was able to meet Spike. They were currently sitting at the patio of a local cafe. Diamond slid the letter towards Spike and asked, "Is this personally from you?" Spike looked at the letter like it was the bane of his existence and then stared back at Diamond. He flatted out said, "No. It's from Twilight." "Right." Diamond shook her head. "What was her highness thinking?" Diamond lifted her cup and drank her lemon ice tea. "She thinks we had a 'moment.' And wanted us to get together as she said" Spike picked up a muffin and ate it. That was pretty much it. The reason they're there was to get away from Twilight and Spike was glad that a misunderstanding was cleared about the invitation. Since they were out here, Spike wouldn't mind to strike a conservation with Diamond to waste some time. She did said she was paying from the drinks and food. "So, I been curious. Why you were yelling at that guy?" "Huh?" Diamond tapped her head trying to remember. "Oh. He was just annoying. Asking all sorts of questions - personal ones. I'm surprised the other mare didn't yelled at him. So, I gave him a good talk down on how to be a gentlecolt! Hmph!" Diamond continued her rant on not just this stallion but also previous stallions she had been acquainted. Spike nodded his head amusingly. She definitely had a strong back-bone when speaking up her mind. But there's one question in his mind that Spike was curious about. "So. Tell me. Why did show up at single's night? From what I could remember about you, you wouldn't be got dead to be in one those things. And you seem more..." Spike cleared his throat before saying, "Angry." Diamond rolled her eyes and remind her herself to not throw a fit. I'm in public. Don't make a scene. Stay calm and collected. "Just a string of bad relationships. End of story." Short and simple answer. Diamond didn't want to go into gritty details of her personal love life. Spike wanted to know more but that's just poking the hornet's nest. So Spike decided to change the topic to mundane things like the weather, recent events, and festivals. After what seems to be hours, the sun was gradually setting. Spike was only asking questions and Diamond happily talked away. The owner of the cafe wanted to close shop but wasn't confident to tell the richest mare in town or a dragon to go home. Once Spike noticed it was getting dark and the anxious look on the owner's face, Spike used his tail to poke Diamond. It got her attention after chugging ice tea for her dried throat. Spike pointed at the setting sun, signaling her that it's time to go home. "Oh." Diamond apologized to the owner and paid for the drinks and snacks. "Sorry Spike. You must have other things to do then hearing me ramble." Diamond said in an apologetic voice. "It's alright. I'm a very good listener. I should thank you for spending time with me." Spike gave a little chuckle. The moon soon shone its light upon the town. There were a handful of dimmed lights from houses and some bustle from bars and restaurants. They quietly strolled through the town towards Diamond's mansion. Spike was away for some years and just recently returned. There was definitely more night-life, the town grew bigger, and a handful of different species taken resident here. Walking through the streets brought nostalgia and sorrow. Spike was walking on memory lane, slowing down their pace back to Diamond's home. Diamond saw Spike reminiscing by taking in the scenery and took a good look around too. She stated, "Time change things, huh. When you step back and realize everything is so different. Sometimes you can't help to feel out of it." "..." Spike nodded his head and continued taking a quiet stroll to their destination. "Well, here's my stop. Thanks Spike for walking me here." Diamond was about to closed the gate behind her but then Spike decided to speak up. "Wait." Diamond stopped and raised an eyebrow. Spike scratched the back of his head and aimlessly looked around. While his time with Diamond was brief, he saw her in a different light from what he remembered about her in the past. After today he wanted to see her again. The Grand Galloping Gala was a no-go, it was too ritzy for his taste. Plus, he didn't see her in a romantic light but someone he can get along with. Spike took a deep breathe and stared at her, "If possible, lets meet again." Diamond blinked twice and responded,"Meet again? Like a date?" Diamond really can't believed what her ears were hearing. Spike quickly replied: "No, no. I meant hanging out. Go eat out, go to events, junk like that. But as friends." Spike didn't want any misunderstanding. "I want to ... just spend some time with you." He really didn't know how to expressed it in another way. It wasn't a lie, but if anybody as was listening, it would be misunderstood. To Diamond, it definitely sounded like a date but it seems Spike wanted their relationship to be platonic? Both individuals can't helped but find themselves in a delicate, awkward situation. After a few minutes of silence, Diamond said nonchalantly, "I don't think it's a problem." She looked down towards the ground and used a hoof to dig a bit into the ground. "Just let me know beforehand when we can meet up, so I can check my schedule. I am a busy mare after all." She closed the gate behind her and left these parting words: " See you later Spike." Then she walked towards her mansion. A maid came by to greet her employer and saw her leaning against the door: "Welcome home, Miss Tiara. Did something good happened?" The maid smiled at Diamond's dazed look and flushed cheeks. She witnessed what happened from the window. She didn't hear what they were talking about but it seemed to be positive. Diamond slowly sank down to the floor and said, "I don't know. Is it?" > Chapter 4 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The winter had came as scheduled by the weather ponies. Winters were short in Equestria and Hearth's Warming was just around the corner. Spike didn't want to stay for the festivities. So, Spike invited Diamond Tiara to tropical trip to Jawai Island. A very popular tourist spot for all species: warm weather all year round, beautifully beaches, hot springs, and splendid local cuisine. Not only that, Silver Spoon and her husband will be there as well. What perfect timing! Thought Diamond Tiara. She hadn't been in contact with Silver for months except for some letter exchanges. Diamond got to Jawai Island by way of her flying dragon friend. They flew to a hotel called Goi's Resort, right by the shore. The lobby was no issue for Spike to fit in and both Diamond and Spike checked in. Spike wasn't lodged into one of the rooms in the resort, not even the biggest room they had to offer can accommodate. The resort had built a series of dome-shaped structures with it own facilities by the side of an extinct volcano, only 10 miles from the resort to accommodate beings of large sizes. As Spike was leaving to settle down in his dome and see what's it like, a couple of ponies came in. "Diamond!" A certain grey pony ran and tackled Diamond, squeezing her tight. The grey mare lightly kissed both of Diamond's cheek and took a few steps back to give Diamond some breathing room. "Silver! Wow, look at you." Silver giggled and thanked her. Silver still had her signature style braided mane, except longer, and wore a red, slender, rectangle glasses. After a brief moment of silence and as if their eyes were signaling each other, they initiated their childhood hoofshake. ""BUMP! BUMP! SUGAR LUMP! RUMP!"" It ended with their buttocks slamming each other, giving a few stallions a little show and red faces. They both hugged each other with more closeness and warmth spread throughout their bodies. *Cough* *Cough* The sound caused the duo to finally let go of each other. Diamond turned her head towards Silver’s husband of two years, Navy Bloom. He was a handsome unicorn with his slim, tall build and long, smooth mane. With turquoise fur and wavy, deep blue mane, he was like the representation of a reef itself. Prestige, nobility, wealth, he was heavily desired by mares of the inner circles of Canterlot. But at the end, he was married to Silver due to prior marriage arrangement between Navy and Silver's family. Diamond can feel Navy’s eyes examining her like display piece. Which gave her spine a tingle. As much as Navy Bloom presented himself as a gentlecolt, Diamond can feel it was nothing more than a facade. Or was she bias? As long Silver wasn’t hurt, she wouldn’t press the matter. Diamond shook away her inner doubts and with social grace, Diamond greeted Navy. “Navy Bloom, it have been so long. Let’s have a pleasant vacation together.” Diamond lifted her right hoof and Navy kissed it. “Yes, quite. I hope we get together a lot.” Navy replied with a smile. “Haha… Yes.” Diamond turned towards Silver. “Well, I have to be one my way and unpack my luggage. Let’s meet for dinner.” “Great idea. Let’s get together and eat.” Silver gave Diamond a final hug, and both her and Navy Bloom continued on their way to check in. Diamond entered inside her luxury suite and planted herself on a queen size bed. She slowly glanced outside through the glass sliding doors. She felt she needed fresh air. She got off her bed and entered the balcony. A beautiful view of the beach with white sand, a pier, and the other visitors on the ground. The salty air entered her nostril and a cool breeze flowed through her fur and mane. A sigh of relief escaped her mouth. This is what I need. She rested her fore legs on the rail and placed her head on them. The sunlight enveloped her body, giving her warmth. Then a purple blob flew from a mountain not too far off. As it got closer, she recognized it was Spike. Closer and closer, he landed by the water. The beach was their meeting spot. With a smile, Diamond stretched her back and trotted outside of her suite and - *CLASH* There were only two rooms on this floor. The noise came from the other room, opposite of hers. Then she heard yelling. It wasn't her problem, so she continued on her way for the elevator. "NAVY! You think I didn't see you flirting with other mares!?" Diamond's ears perked up. That was Silver's voice, this was not something she can't avoid. She placed her ear on the wall. What is going on? Diamond thought. "Don't act like you're innocent too! Admit it!" Yelled back by Navy. Minute by minute, Diamond was listening to their argument. Her mouth was slowly opening as the heated argument grew wild. Accusations, insults, threats. Diamond felt devastated, this was the most ferocious quarrel she heard in her life, and it was coming from her best friend. After the fighting ended, Diamond got on the elevator and sprinted out of the resort towards the beach, towards Spike. With Spike within view, she screamed out his name. "Spike! Spike! Spike!" Spike turned his head and narrowed his eyes. Diamond was in distress, so he ran towards her. "Whoa, whoa! Catch your breathe and tell me what happen?" "Silver... *Huff* Navy... *Huff* They..." Diamond collapsed on the sand and laid on her back. Her chest was rising and falling rapidly. Spike waited for her to catch her breathe. "Silver Spoon and her husband. What about them?" "They're getting a divorce!" Spike's eyes almost popped out. "Wait! What? Ain't they a famous couple in Canterlot?" "Yes, but. I hope they get a divorce! I will convince Silver to do it!" Diamond got back on her hooves and began marching towards the resort. Spike slithered his tail and wrapped it around Diamond's torso. "Hey! Let go!" Diamond complained. "Calm down! Don't leave me out in the dark." Spike lifted her up and began walking towards the pier. Once he reached the end, he placed Diamond in a gazebo and tried to position his body around it. He wasn't gonna to let Diamond escape without explaining after what just happened. After Diamond cooled down and saw that he wouldn't let her go, she told about her eavesdropping and the fighting. She stopped herself before saying anything more. There were some private matters pertaining to Silver that didn't need to be disclosed to outsiders. Well, she was no different, but Silver was her best friend, even to say a sister. "And you came to me for?" Spike asked, taking Diamond out from her cloudy mind. Diamond blinked and thought, Why did I came to see him? She stared at Spike's worrying expression. She was hoping to find an answer on his face but... She turned her head towards the sea and responded, "Well, I can't burst into Silver's room, right? Besides, we suppose to meet at the beach first thing. Maybe, I didn't want to leave you hanging before getting into Silver's business." At least, that's how she rationalized it. Spike chuckled. "Thank you for thinking of me and now we met." Spike then cleared his throat. "Are you really gonna try to convince Silver Spoon to divorce her husband?" Spike was still baffled. Diamond must had learned something from her eavesdropping to go this far. "Well, that's the plan." Spike closed his eyes and began thinking. I really shouldn't get involved. Should I stop Diamond Tiara? Maybe it's just a normal couple's spat? ... Diamond began poking the side of the silent Spike. "Hey. Earth to Spike? Stop entering into your own world and open your eyes you big goof." "I'm listening, " Spike nodded. After gathering his thoughts, he asked, "Are you sure you want to go through this? Breaking up a couple, especially a famous, wealthy one, will bring ... ramifications. This could affect Silver Spoon's life." Diamond became silent for a moment, before finally saying, "Yes. Are planning to stop me?" Diamond sent a glare towards Spike. "How can a stop a cannonball like you?" Spike lifted his body and moved away from the gazebo. Diamond began walking back and stopped a few feet away. "Um... Sorry, I know it's a vacation for us to hang out but -" "No worries. You have a friend to think about, right? I'm sure Silver Spoon would love to have you by her side for whatever she's going through." Spike smiled. Diamond felt relieved and began to sprint. "I will make it up to you!" Diamond yelled back. As she was going further and further away from Spike's view, he dropped his body onto the pier. It caused the whole structure to shake and made groaning noises. Spike blew green fire and popped a list. A list of activities and schedules of various events taking place at the resort and tourist attractions. "I guess it's only me now." > Chapter 5 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Are you sure this is okay?" "Totally fine. He's a grown dragon and she's a grown mare. I believe those two can handle any issues toss at them." "That too, but no." Starlight Glimmer took off her headphones and lowered the parabolic microphone. "Why in Equestria, are we following Spike and Diamond Tiara all the way out here?" "I'm just monitoring Spike's hormonal and draconian mating behaviors with a different species. Plus, if Spike ever get hurt or in trouble, we will be there." "Yeah-no. You're missing out family and friends on Hearth Warming back in Ponyville," said Starlight Glimmer in defiance. Twilight sighed and lowered her binoculars. "Spike been gone for years and... I just didn't want to lose him again. I mean look at him." Both mares looked towards the scaly dragon splashing in the water and dived in. "Okay, it may not look like it, but DEEP DOWN, I know he's hurting." "Right..." Starlight turned her head to look behind her and waved her hoof. "Who are you waving too?" As Twilight looked behind, the sight took her breathe away. "SURPRISED!" A group of ponies jumped in front of Starlight and Twilight. All the gang was here with their family in toll as well. "Awww~~ Look dear, Twilight is so surprised she's speechless." Twilight Velvet commented from the side with her husband next to her. Twilight was caught off guard and finally got the words out, "Wah- Why is everypony here?" Shining Armour stepped forward and said, "Starlight told us you wouldn't be with us this time of year. That's unlike you. It wouldn't be completed without you Twily." "Really." Twilight let down a few tears. "Thank you Starlight." ***** Spike from afar just gone up for some air from his dive. Looked around and a familiar group of ponies was seen by the beach. What are they doing here? Spike lowered his neck to the point only his head was atop of the water. They looked happy and wrapped in joy. Spike's heart ached slightly. Spike thought for a moment to join them. No-no. Spike gave up on the idea dived back in the water and swam like an aquatic animal towards the coral reef close to his island stay. He made a clean get-away. ***** Twilight along with everybody was catching up and then gone their separate ways to have some fun. It leaves only Twilight, Starlight, Pinkie, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, and Rarity seating together indoors around a table with fruity drinks and snacks. "This place is quite something." Applejack commented. "The sand, the ocean, them weird trees. Makes me want to sleep in all day." "I feel the same way. It has that relaxing atmosphere to it," Fluttershy added. "I know. This island is suppose to be the go to places for vacationing," said Starlight. "It just goes to show how coup up we are in our daily lives - besides the parties and holidays, and more parties." Starlight stared intensely at Pinkie. "I know, I know. I'm planning a big party tonight!" Pinkie exclaimed. Starlight gave an unenthusiastic, "Yay." "We have quite the gathering. A very special time to spend with family." Rarity focused her attention to Twilight. "Now, tell us. Why are you here? It's was Starlight's idea and it was hard work to gather everypony. But, she told only us that you're not here to have fun. So, spill it." Rarity was giddy inside for juicy secrets. All eyes were on Twilight as she sat straight. "It's Spike." "Spike?" A few of them asked questioningly. Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Fluttershy hadn't heard that name very often. "He's here?" "Where had he been?" "What had he been doing?" Twilight raised an eyebrow. She can forgive Rarity and Rainbow Dash for not knowing that Spike had been in Ponyville, because they don't live there no more. "Applejack, Fluttershy, you both seen him." Both answered with, "We did?" "Don't you recognize a large purple dragon that walks around town?" Applejack tapped her chin and muttered, "Ohhh. That big fella that buys barrels of apples? That's Spike?" Since the others weren't aware, Twilight concluded Spike didn't let his presence known to everybody. Plus, there been a lot of dragon tourists across Equestria. He did told Pinkie, Twilight, and Starlight to keep it on the down-low. When he flew and walk around town, nobody seemed to recognize him. It actually deepen her gloominess that she felt her friends just remembered their dragon friend. So, Twilight told from start to finish, when he came back, what he been doing while in Ponyville, and what he's doing here on Jawai island. "Oh my goodness, Twilight. That's why you and Starlight came here?" Exclaimed Rarity as she swallowed hard. Both Twilight and Starlight told why they were here, to spy on Spike and his new friend for the most part. Rainbow Dash leaned back and said, "Come on! Why be distant? Invite him over tonight and that marefriend of his." She pulled out a brochure of the resorts and faced it to everyone. "Look at all of these activities! Surfing, eating contest, kayaking, scuba diving, and racing karts! This place has everything!" "Yep! Yep! All work and no play makes a dull pony!" Pinkie Pie added. Twilight felt a little dishearten. "Nopony is interested in Spike's life?" Everyone looked at one another confused. Rarity was the first to respond, "Well... It's not that we're curious. It's just, we shouldn't get too involved dear." A few within the group nodded in agreement. "She's right Twi. Spike is his own dragon. Everypony's family is here." Applejack got up from her chair and took the last sip of cup. "Ah gotta go. Wanna check the caves with Apple Bloom, Big Mac and his family. Don't wanna dilly dally now." She said in a cheerful tone. "We can all meet again at Pinkie's party, right?" "Yep-per-ru! It's almost time to meet my family by the pool. The party is outdoors on the private space of the beach. Invitation only!" Pinkie left along with Applejack towards the exit. "Yes. Sorry dear, look at the time. We can discuss more tonight. I made private reservations at the spa. Fluttershy, let's not be late." Rarity was showing her enthusiasm. "Of course." Fluttershy turned to Twilight and said, "I'm not going to tell what you can and can't do. Do whatever you feel is most important to you." She leaved her chair and joined Rarity to meet their family at the spa. One by one, her friends were going their own ways. Rainbow Dash finally got up and patted on Twilight's shoulder. "Don't look so down. Everypony's family is here to enjoy family time. Not too many of those comes by. Spike is... Well..." Rainbow Dash couldn't get the right words out of her mouth. What was he to them now? Were they still friends? She didn't finish that sentence and left with these words, "Grab some fresh air, you'll feel better." Rainbow flew out of the opened window. Now it only left Starlight and Twilight. Twilight stared down onto her drink. Starlight twirled her straw in her glass before taking a long sucking. This isn't what I imagine to happen. The only sound that exist was the chatter of other people and the wind blowing the palm trees. Starlight couldn't bear the silence between them and finally asked her. "If don't mind me asking, why are you so concern for Spike? I know it been very long since we all saw him, but it looks like he didn't change one bit." Twilight chugged her drink down before saying, "It's my fault." "Um... your fault for what?" "I'm the reason his heart was broken. Why he didn't come back to Equestria." Unbeknownst to them, a young pink filly had been eavesdropping. > Chapter 6 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I'm the reason his heart was broken. Why he didn't come back to Equestria." Starlight checked her memories and didn't remember anytime that Twilight broke his heart. Was there an argument too big to break what Spike and Twilight had? She seen no hints of Spike in love with Twilight in a romantic sense. "I sill don't understand. What happened?" Twilight was battling inside her head for a while before exhausting her mind. She ordered another drink and took her time finishing it. "I lied to him." She lowered her head into her hooves. "While... While he was out being an ambassador for Equestria at the Dragon Lands, he asked what Rarity been up to in all of his letters." Starlight nodded her head and realized right away. She said softly, "You didn't tell him she was seeing somepony didn't you?" Twilight shook her head in response. "It was such a disaster. He received an invitation to Rarity's wedding. I didn't know Rarity would send an invitation herself. And I'm the wedding planner! Delivered right under my nose." A mix of frustration and sorrow resulted a few sniffles from while her head was down. The other guests were glancing at their direction and a handful got up from their chairs and leaved the room. "But Spike came with all smiles at the wedding. He's must be quite understanding, right?" "No. After the wedding. Me and Spike had a big argument." ****** 7 Years Ago - Cantertlot Castle - Private Room Twilight looked out of the window while wearing Rarity's design dress for the occasion. The whole wedding took place at the castle. Everypony was cheering and graduating the newly wedded at the courtyard. Spike was much smaller, the size of a teenage dragon and bipedal. He stood by Twilight watching the lights and glamour of the festivity below. "Twilight, why?" Spike gritted his teeth and heart pumping hard. "Why didn't you tell me?" "I-I know Spike. Please, not tonight Spike." Spike stomped away from the window and shouted, "No. I want answers now! Your letters said nothing about Rarity being engaged or have a special somepony!" Spike began pacing back and forth. "I studied and spend most of my time in the Dragon Lands working with Ember spreading friendship among dragons." "I did all this so Rarity would look at me differently." "You are different! You became better version of yourself. Look at your accomplishments, they were not a waste." "You lied to me!" Spike made his groan heard and flared his nostrils. He turned and stormed out of room. "Where are you going?! Spike! Spike!" Spike got out of the castle and flew. ***** "But he came back after the wedding. To the Crystal Empire and Canterlot," Starlight said. "Yes he did, but not to Ponyville. Until recently." Twilight kept her head down. Starlight let the words sink in. She slowly got up to Twilight and slapped her back. Twilight yelped at the tinge of pain on her back. "Ouch! Why did you hit me?!" "I didn't want to see you crying. You two had a talk right? Clearly, all wells that ends well." "I guess but I just feel so guilty for what I did." Starlight gave a soft smile and tossed her foreleg around Twilight. "Tsk tsk tsk. Turn that frown upside down. You should listen to your friends' advice. This should be the time to hang out with friends and family." In a brief moment there were only sound of the breeze and chatter around them. Twilight slowly inhale and exhale. "Yeah, you're right." "There we go. If you ever felt distress again about this, I don't see the reason why to talk to Spike again." Twilight gave a heavy sigh. Diamond Tiara was waiting at the mini bar on the wooden terrace behind the hotel. She sat on a stool sipping on a straw waiting for Silver Spoon. Okay Diamond. Be nice and friendly. Ask how her day, her life, then tell her to divorce him! "Hey Diamond Tiara!" Silver yelled from the open doors of the hotel. She waved before taking a seat besides Diamond. Diamond can see Silver's eyes a little red and coat in a ruffle. "Sorry for keeping you waiting. I was in a hurry from the bathroom." Silver looked around and asked, "Is Spike not with you?" "He's doing in his own thing. This is you and me time." "Oh. What shall we do?" Diamond Tiara looked around and the chairs and tents around the pool were taken. Then looked towards the beach and it seems to have little crowd. "Let's take a walk on the beach." Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon walked along the ocean and the wave would come and cool their hoofs. They talked of old times and current life. Diamond Tiara harden herself and asked causally, "So how is the marriage life going for you Silver?" Silver spoon tightened her lips a bit and her ears drooped a bit. After a few minutes of silence and glancing at the sea and hotel here and there, Silver spoke," A few bumps on the road. Life in Canterlot is hectic." Diamond Tiara nodded and Silver Spoon showed hesitation when continued being asked about her marriage life. Diamond Tiara wanted to break the ice a bit with casual questions but it only made Silver Spoon more uncomfortable. She was wary that this wasn't going to anywhere and just spat out, "My room is on the same floor as yours. I happened to hear arguing pass by and it was you and Navy Bloom." Silver Spoon's eyes widen and gave a fake chuckle. "Oh." "That two-timing, disgusting, that that-- I'm so angry I can't think straight!" Diamond Tiara stomped on the sand and kicked the sand into the air. After her tantrum, she tried to control her breathing. "Okay. Okay. Come down Diamond Tiara," she said to herself. After Diamond Tiara calmed down, both of them sat a few feet from the waves and the hot sand was felt. "So, if things ain't working out, you could you know. Divorce him?" "I knew you were going to say that." "Am I wrong? Clearly, you don't love him and if this not your first fight, then why continue to be with him?" Silver Spoon gave a heavy sigh and said, "Diamond, it's not that simple. If we're not happy with one of another, did you think we're be going on this trip together? We-we're working on it." Diamond Tiara rolled her eyes but Silver Spoon continued. "We were childhood crushes and our family had a marriage arrangements. The first year of marriage was just like what any young mare dreams about. The honeymoon, furnishing the new house together, talking about foals, and-and," Silver Spoon choked her words. Diamond Tiara just rubbed Silver Spoon's back in quietness and let the sounds of waves blend with the sobs. "We both want to make this work."
