Originally formatted for Google Docs Awake. You open your eyes, finally awake. You don’t remember falling asleep, you don’t even remember being tired. You’ve been too busy to be tired. Funny, or at least you think it is. Funny that your whole life has been about magic. Studying it, mastering it, discovering the true meaning of it. And you find that it’s funny, that even when there is no magic, you’re still studying it. Just like every other unicorn scholar, you’re studying magic. But for a different reason. You’re studying magic to try to find out why it has disappeared. Why you can no longer levitate a simple quill, or book, or scroll. Like every unicorn in Equestria, you have lost your magic. But, it’s not just the unicorns, is it? No, it’s also the pegasi. One of your best friends, Rainbow Dash, lost her job as weather manager, because of the mysterious loss of magic. You see, without magic, pegasi cannot control the weather. You may think that this wouldn’t affect anypony else besides a few pegasi who had weather jobs, but you’d be wrong. Without pegasi forcing precipitation, the clouds move aimlessly in the sky, not releasing a drop of liquid. This wasn’t a major problem at first, but as the weeks went on with no rain, crops began to wither. Fields began to dry. Another friend of yours, Applejack, has found it very hard to harvest any of her produce when the trees won’t produce any produce. You think of how Fluttershy must be holding up. She never needed to manipulate clouds in her line of work, but all of the animals under her care use a tremendous amount of water. You found it ironic how she shed tears made primarily made of water when the residents of Ponyville made her send her animals away. Angel, her pet bunny rabbit, was the only one allowed to stay. Rarity unfairly compares her business troubles with everypony elses’ problems. With the loss of magic, she is unable to use her magic to find gems for her precious dresses. You vaguely recall her ranting on and on about how she could still make dresses, but that they would shine to their full potential. Rarity. Always the drama queen. She doesn’t even seem to acknowledge the water problem. Of course Pinkie Pie is always in a chirpy mood, regardless of the circumstances. Her child-like innocence is presented fully when she almost seemed happy about the drought. No water means more sarsaparilla! As she had put it. Her innocence has always made you smile. Her business of pastry making had not taken a serious toll by magic misplacement. However, Pinkie Pie’s self proclaimed “Pinkie Sense” had seemed to magically disappeared. She hasn’t seemed to noticed, or at least hasn’t seemed to mind that her sphinxlike powers had vanished. Counting down all of your friends, you finally think of yourself. Twilight Sparkle. Magical protege of Princess Celestia herself. What good is a title like that when magic no longer exists. You force yourself to uprise your body out of bed. You look through the dulled window. Dulled, to hide some of the forceful rays of sun from entering your home. Celestia and Luna themselves could do nothing about the sun without their magic, so naturally, the sun never moved. It would indefinitely float in the sky, fixed in one position, only adding to the water and crop trouble. You force your eyes away from the window, not wanting to think about all these problems anymore than you need to. You slowly trot down the stairs leading to the ground floor of the library. Meekly, you solemnly enter the kitchen, hoping that you can find something in your meager kitchen that is eatable. Your search of food is cut short by a loud knock at the library’s door. Stomach still rumbling, you move to answer the sound. Upon opening the door, you find nopony in sight. The only evidence that you’re not going mad is a small envelope on the ground in front of you. Instinctively, you try to reach out with your magic and grasp the small piece of paper. Frustrated by the reminder, you sigh and pick up the envelope with your mouth. Shutting the door, you try to manage to open the envelope using your teeth and hooves. After about ten minutes, you succeed. As you gaze upon the paper, you find a smile slowly creep onto your face. Smiling was something that has not befallen to your face for a while. You finish the letter, and reread the words. Twilight, we all know that this is going to be a difficult few weeks ahead, but we all think that you need to take a break. We thought that after being our friend for a few years, you’d understand that. We’ve all felt the effects of this mysterious happenin’, but you don’t see us becoming getting all worked up over this. Life goes on for all of us, even if that means our lives as we know it will end soon. You can’t simply expect us to let you hide yourself away and study and work all day long! We’re your friends, and that may mean nothing to you anymore, but it means everything to us. Just because you may be scared of what’s going to happen to everypony doesn’t mean you should forget about everything else. We’ve missed seeing you, and you should really come to Sweet Apple Acres for one of Pinkie Pie’s parties. I thought YOU of all ponies would know how to spend their last few months Twilight! With friends! If you work work work until the day you die, I’d say that that’s only wasted party time! I mean- oops. We’re supposed to be speaking as “we” aren’t we? Anyway, we really think you should come to my- I mean, our party this afternoon. And this time, I really do mean this afternoon this afternoon! I mean! We really mean it! Or I do! But we as a group- Sorry Twilight, the rest of us had to stop her from writing. But one last thing Twilight. Do you remember all those years ago when we all first met at the Summer Sun Celebration? And how we all eventually defeated Nightmare Moon? That day, and we all agree on this, was the best day of our lives. Not because we became immortalized by the Elements of Harmony, but because we met you. And because we learned what true magic was. Friendship. Real magic comes from the strength you get from your friends, not from your horn. Real magic is the ability to tell a friend to stop working so hard, and come enjoy a party. Real magic is in all of us all the time, no matter what. We all really do hope you come join us at Sweet Apple Acres for the party. That way, we can really show you what true magic is. -End
