"Ok let's do this ladies and gentlemen." a strange man with a lab coat dark blue shirt and black pants.

The doctors around him nodded, and start moving to their assigned places that makes them look like dozens of streams going around the strange man until, one female doctor stands behind the man "Everything is prepared for inter-dimensional travel and the men are standing by."

The man nodded his head "Very well, then I better prepare as well, tell the men to start in 5." the girl nods, and walks in a direction with purpose as the man starts removing his clothes, putting on an all black fabric that looks as if it was made specially for him "Perfect fit!" he said, with a smile and looks around to his staff.

"Ladies and gentlemen no matter what happens it was an honor learning and discovering with you all."

They all nod some with tears in their eyes and others saying things like "feeling is mutual sir." or "thank you too sir."

The man walked through his lab looking around at all the faces he was used to seeing everyday as if it was his last time seeing them

As he was doing this an intercom sounded, "1 minute till activation."

With that the man stepped onto a single platform that was placed in the middle of the room.

"Let's get this started" he says looking around him.

His associates begin to activate the machine each, and every one of them out their heart and soul into the machine whirls, and lights begin to turn on, and spin around where the man stands he reached, into his new attire, and pulls out dog tags that look old VERY old with the name barely visible as he looks at this he smiles, "Seems like it was only yesterday..."

Just then the machine begins to spark and all the doctors in the room panic, and try to stabilize it only to find that they couldn't.

The man looks around worry obvious on his face but before anyone could react the machine opens what they can only assume is a portal that swallows him whole with the female doctor he was just talking to screaming worry and fear In her tone.

"DANIEL!!!"

BOOM!! Yet, another explosion has occurred nearby as ponies run back and forth through the barren wasteland with one mare taller than all others stand giving orders without hesitation her dark blue mane flowing in a nonexistent wind "Do not falter my ponies we must push just a little farther!!"

A male earth pony just a bit smaller than her wearing armor that resembled the color of the mares coat but, with three stars embedded onto it stepped up a proud smile on his face "Princess Luna the enemy is retreating we've won!"

All ponies who wore similar armor only some with it a bit more battered than others cheered with all their strength only to stop when their monarch spoke up, "Now is no time for celebrations my little ponies now is the time to search the area for anything the enemy might have been working on as well as, for more medical, and food supplies remember we still have families to return to!" She said a bit of pride in her voice.

As she turned to the three starred stallion standing beside her "Lead your battalion to search their base for anything to help us and be careful we don't know if they set traps for us."

The stallion nodded, giving a quick salute before calling out for his men "Alright you heard the princess get moving the rest of you start getting camp ready, and gather all wounded for medical attention!"

The soldiers nodded, with a "Yes your highness!" leaving Luna to her thoughts.

*Finally, some good news to report to my sister it's been so long since I've been allowed outside of the castle walls since....him*

"Princess Luna!" A guard similar in build to the previous guard however, with only with 2 stars on his chest plate spoke up.

"What is it my little pony?" the stallion looked pale as if he had seen the very pits of Tartarus, "Y-you Need to see this..." luna detected a bit of dread in his voice so she just nodded, and steeled herself for whatever horrors awaited her and the guard led the way briefing her on the situation.

"Your highness we have never seen a creature such as this but it looks like the enemy not only kept it in captivity but, tortured it...." Luna's eye twitched, the thought of it making her sick as the guard continued, "...It looks male from taking closer inspection but, it looks young VERY young barely past infancy we think."

Luna's eyes went wide "Are you serious a child!?!"

The guard nodded, "Yes but the really sad part of it is the only words he's able to say so far are-" just then they enter the room the guard has been leading them to find it empty with a small child strapped to a metal table many different kinds of scalpels and other sharp objects around him.

Many cuts and scars adorned his body but, they look old the only clothing he has is a black fabric that the princess has never seen before and what Luna can only assume are tags of some kind around the boys neck.

"By the maker..." says the princess in horror bringing a hoof to her muzzle to hold in the bile rising in her stomach she slowly trots her way to him and runs her hoof softly as to not hurt him further over his body examining him "It seems his wounds are healing and he doesn't look like he needs immediate medical attention but keep a medical team on standby."

The guard salutes "Yes princess but are you sure you will be okay on your own?"

The princess only nodded as she continued to examine the boy until, she reaches his neck the boy finches in pain, causing luna to quickly retract her hoof "shhh....shhh....Don't worry young one I'm not going to hurt you" she notices that he calms down a little after she says, and she attempts to see his strange tags again as slowly and with as little pressure on his body as possible. She grabs the tags and lifts them just close enough to read so she wouldn't hurt him they looked faded but, she could make out a name "Daniel?? Is t-that your name little one??"

The boy for the first time in her presence spoke "P-please d-don't hurt me anymore" the princess gasped, his voice sounded rough and dry as if it came from an old stallion. "Guard!!"

Luna yelled, as soon as she did there was a quick answer as the same guard came in and saluted, "Yes your highness!" "Get this poor child some water, as much as you can carry!" He nodded, and rushed off as soon as he did Luna stroked the child's hair lightly silently comforting him so he'd know he was safe.

"Nopony is going to hurt you anymore I promise."

Chapter 2 "The Starry Night"

After removing the restrains a couple of hours and over a gallon of water later daniel seemed relatively calm, and had a very neutral face.

Luna sat with him nestled comfortably between her legs in a tent made specially for the two of them "Are you feeling better Daniel?" Luna asked, hopeful that the boy would say something other than "Please don't hurt me anymore."

Instead, he just sat there unblinking and completely still if she didn't know better she would've thought he was dead "Please say something daniel" Luna softly said nuzzling him softly but, to no avail.

Luna sighed, looking at him worriedly, *It's getting late I'd better raise the moon soon and see to it that Daniel gets some rest. We have a long journey ahead of us.*

While concentrating, on the spell to raise her moon, she didn't notice that Daniel had gotten up and walked outside their tent making all passerby's look at him in surprise however, he stopped only a few feet from the tent still within sight and looked up.

When Luna noticed, she quickly got up and trotted over to him. "Daniel you must come back to the tent your still unwell." she said, with obvious worry in her voice but, sadly it fell on death ears, as Daniel only continued to look up Luna was confused by this looking to where his eyes were pointing.

However, there was nothing there just the night sky that she always puts up then she looks at daniel once again and sees something that makes her gasp in surprise he was staring at the sky in wonderment this was the first reaction that Luna had seen out of him besides fear, and pain. "D-do you like the stars??" Luna asked nervously, worried that she may ruin this moment for him.

After a few moments Daniel looked at Luna with the same eyes of wonderment but then, she could see it the faintest hint of curiosity....."S-staaars??"

Luna could only look at him in surprise, *He...he spoke!! He can speak!* She thought, with excitement and happiness.

"Y-yes those are stars I made them!" Luna said, trying to hide her enthusiasm for fear of daniel shutting down again.

Daniel looked at Luna with wonderment once again and if Luna's mind wasn't playing any tricks on her she could swear that she can see a small smile on his face. "Y-you make staars..." Daniel asks, which only makes Luna's already big smile bigger.

"Y-yes Daniel that's right!" She stated a bit louder than intended but as far she could see it didn't phase him much.

Instead, daniel looked at Luna curiously and asked, "How??"

Luna pulled back her head slightly in all her years of controlling the night sky above she's never really wondered much less asked herself how it was possible.

It could be do to her alicorn magic but, if that were true then her cutie mark wouldn't have destined her to be able to control the moon and stars. "I-I'm sorry daniel but, i don't really know how it's just something I'm able to do." she answered honestly, she doesn't know why but, she felt like she could trust the young colt.

Daniel much to Luna's dismay, seemed to be disappointed at the answer but, nodded his head in understanding. Luna was a little sad to see Daniel like this so she nuzzled his cheek only for him to flinch, pulling away in fear.

"No no daniel don't be afraid I'm only trying to comfort you." Luna quickly says trying to calm his nerves.

Daniel slowly, became assured that his safety wasn't to be worried about, and slowly let his guard down with her.

Luna noticed this, and slowly got closer to the young colt and with a tentative hoof brought him closer to her.

Of course, he pulled away slightly at first, but soon gave in to the princess's kind touch making Luna smile "Come inside daniel it's getting late and you need rest."

Daniel only nodded, letting Luna guide him to her tent after putting a few of her own pillows in a correct position she let him lay down and before she realized it, he was fast asleep. *Poor dear must've been more tired than I thought.*

She slowly, and gently covered daniel with a blanket and nuzzled his forehead. "Sleep well young colt..." whispered the princess.

The princess exited the tent quietly making sure not to wake the young colt. "Princess Luna there you are." Luna jumped, turning to star daggers at the pony who startled her like that.

"Shhh...the young colt is finally asleep." Luna stated as quietly as, she pulled the guard aside quite a distance away from the tent, and the young colt sleeping inside it.

"Now....what is the issue that couldn't wait till morning?"

The guard although a bit frightened by the princess snapping at her took off her helmet and saluted her. "Commander Vinyl Scratch your highness, as for issues there are none I just wished to inform you that all files, and supplies that we could find in the enemies base have been taken and brought to camp."

Luna looked at her wide eyed "Really? That was rather quick, even for the guard."

Vinyl shifted in her hooves, "W-well umm.....there might have been another reason why we were able to gather them that quickly."

Luna stared at her incredulously, "Commander Scratch is there something your not telling me?"

Vinyl flinched, "W-well you see your highness....the reason for this is well the enemy might have burned most of the files concerning...." she whispered the last word so quietly that Luna couldn't hear.

"Concerning who Commander Scratch?" She asked, a hint of irritation in her voice making Vinyl flinch once again.

"Concerning ......the creature we found your highness."

Luna's heart nearly stopped at this new information, *What could be so important to the enemy, that they'd destroy all information on him. Could he be dangerous?*

Luna shook her head, *No Daniel is just a harmless child, of a new species no less he's definitely not a threat to anypony especially the way he has been around me.*

She narrowed her eyes, "Bring all information that was saved to my quarters immediately I will look over them in the morning."

Vinyl nodded saluting, "Yes your highness!" Luna flinched, "SHHH....not so loud." she stated firmly.

Vinyl covered her mouth, only to open it again to whisper, "Apologies, your highness" Luna waved her hoof in dismissively, confirming to the commander that she was forgiven.

"Is there anything else that i need to know?" Luna asked.

Vinyl shook her head, "No ma'am, nothing else to report." She said saluting, with a stern look on her face.

Luna nodded, and sighed exhausted from today's events "Very well, if nothing else I will retire for the night, make sure there are guards posted all night in shifts."

Vinyl saluted, "Yes your highness, have a good nights rest."

Luna nodded, "And you as well." Luna then turned back, trotting to her tent.

*What could the enemy be planning that they would need a child for?* Luna entered her tent where Daniel still lay sleeping.

*I mean look at him he's harmless, and not to mention easily frightened what could they get from a scared child?*

She slid out of her armor, and rested right behind daniel wrapping her wings around him.

Shaking her head of anything but, comforting the small colt in her wings.

*Enough of that for now, I will have all the time I wish to think about this in the morning. For now, I just want to see this boy rested and well cared for.*

Luna closed her eyes resting her head on a nearby pillow only to feel Daniel shift to get closer to the monarch, burying his head in Luna's chest smiling softly.

This caused Luna's heart to skip a beat, the sight gave her a feeling of happiness that she hasn't felt in a VERY long time.

*I promise I'll protect you little one...*

She nuzzled daniel, and again closed her eyes drifting to what would be one of the best sleeps she's had in all her years of living.

Chapter 3 "Adoptions And Morning Troubles"

The morning sun, hit Luna's eyes and made her flinch at the blinding light that she wished would come later in the day she oh so loved sleeping and believed that there is no pleasure greater. However, before she could again embrace the sweet bliss known as sleep she remembered something or somepony that was with her the night before the creature that peaked both her curiosity and her worry she gasped as she remembered his name and felt that he wasn't there beside her "Where's Daniel?"

Luna now wearing her all her armor except her helmet wandered around looking for the young colt trotting quickly looking into each of the tents until she came across the tent where the guards ate their meals and saw Daniel sitting down with Commander Scratch eating a large amount of watermelon, grapes, and eggs with a large amount of orange juice. Luna quickly trotted up to him "Daniel are you alright?" She asked still worried.

Daniel only nodded in response and Luna sighed in relief, "Daniel...if you were hungry you could've woken me and we could've ate together."

Daniel looked down sadly, Luna could only assume he felt guilty but, was too hungry to wait.

Luna sighed, "Well....as long as u remember to do it next time and that your safe it's ok I suppose I should've told you this before you went to sleep"

Vinyl gave a little cough to emphasize her presence "I'm sorry your highness when I saw him wondering the camp I thought he was lost so I asked him what he wanted and he pointed to his stomach and I heard it growl so I brought him here."

Luna nodded, in understanding of the situation *he must've gotten lost looking for food but didn't wanna go too far from me* she waved her hoof "it's quite alright Commander scratch"

Vinyl shook her head bowing slightly, "Please, your highness call me Vinyl after all we aren't in battle at the moment."

Luna nodded, "Of course, forgive me Vinyl but I must ask the same of you to just call me Luna as well it's only fair."

"Of course Luna." She bowed her head slightly smiling widely "By the way Luna watch out for this one he's a BIG eater I think that's his third serving" she states, pointing at Daniel and chuckling under her breath.

Luna chuckled as well and stood up now feeling hungry herself "Well if you don't mind watching Daniel for a moment longer while I get myself some food."

Vinyl shook her head "Of course not your highness you go on ahead he's very well behaved."

Luna nodded, in thanks and trotted off to the stands to grab her breakfast while Vinyl watched over Daniel eating greedily.

SPlAT!! A very large half of a watermelon hit Daniel right on the head making him panic and hide under the table. The ponies all inside the tent stopped their conversations and their meals to observe this some chuckling and others with stern looks.

"Hehe what's the matter FREAK afraid of a little food fight." Chuckled, a guard with steel armor that looked much newer than most indicating the lack of battle experience he had.

Vinyl could only scoff at the ignorance of the guard as stood up and stood muzzle to muzzle with him *they'll let just about anyone join the forces huh?* "Look rookie leave the kid alone he won't be causing any trouble."

The guard smirked at the comment, "Look yourself COMMANDER he's a monster and he's probably under the control of the enemy as we speak."

Vinyl stood her ground, "If that WERE true which it obviously isn't." she gestured to the cowering form of Daniel under the table "What would have to gain from it they obviously tortured him to the point where he is afraid of his own shadow."

Daniel still frightened by the sudden hit by a watermelon peeked his head out from under the table slightly looking at Vinyl from behind in astonishment. This is the second pony in his life to ever show him kindness like this and, quite frankly he was happy but still unable to fully show it.

The guard shook his head "Nonetheless, that THING could still be working for them in order to avoid getting hurt any more."

Vinyl simply rolled her eyes at the idea "If that were true wouldn't you think he would've been fighting along side them instead of being strapped to a medical table being experimented on."

The guard backed off obviously surprised by this information but, still tried to defend himself although it was clear to him that he miss stepped "They could've been-"

"What's the meaning of this?" Called, a voice filled with an unmistakable royal tone making all the guards around him stand, and salute along with Vinyl.

The guard turned around to see Princess Luna and visibly started shaking in his armor but, still saluted out of habit.

"Your highness this young recruit had something to say about the young colt we saved from the enemy." Vinyl states, very calmly like she's giving a status report. "He says that the young colt could be an enemy spy sent to somehow report on what he finds out about us."

The princess's eyes narrow and, a stern look starts forming on her face giving the rookie more of a reason to fear for his life. "Is that so? Am I to also assume that YOU young stallion is also the one who hit the defenseless and hungry child with a watermelon?"

The stallion shot straight up still saluting but visibly sweating through his armor "Y-yes your highness it was I b-but I-"

"Do you have a problem with my decision that the boy stays with us in MY tent?" Luna asks interrupting the rookies undoubtedly horribly excuse for what he did.

"O-of course not your highness!" The guard said a little louder than intended he could only hope that he didn't piss off the princess more than he already had.

"Then tell me my little pony what should I make of this..." she point with her hoof towards Daniel still having a watermelon on his head the juices dripping from it to his face. "Because this to me makes me question your faith in my judgment."

The stallion bowed his head so low his muzzle touched the dirt floor below "P-please your highness f-forgive this lowly guard for disrespecting your wishes." He begged, hoping that his princess would be merciful toward him.

"Raise your head young stallion." She stated, very sternly as to which he obeyed quickly without hesitation. "I understand you are new to the cause of defending your country in a time of war however... this does not mean we can just ignore an injured and defenseless child no matter what species they maybe."

This caused the stallion to look back at the boy in shock "That THING is a child!"

This comment caused Luna's and Vinyls eye to twitch however, for Vinyl it was in annoyance, and for Luna it was anger more anger than she's ever felt before and she couldn't understand it.

It took all Luna's willpower not to yell at the ignorant stallion "Y-yes HE is a child and his name is Daniel so now u must apologize to HIM not to me."

He bowed again and slowly turned toward the "BOY" under the table.

At first Daniel went back to hiding under the table afraid that he would hurt him again "P-please don't hurt m-me anymore...." this cause all even the young stallion to flinch upon now hearing his voice he knew now that this boy was indeed a child and, he approached him slowly.

"Please c-come out of the table Daniel. I promise not to hurt you anymore, I j-just want to get that melon off your head." He stuttered however, not out of fear but out of nervousness that if he accidentally hurt him he'd get into an even larger world of trouble that he couldn't even imagine.

Daniel slowly came out looking to Luna, and Vinyl for help and in response they nodded, confirming that what he's saying is true. Trusting both of them he looked up at the stallion and nodded, telling him he trusted him.

The stallion slowly removed the watermelon and set it on the ground next to him "Listen, umm...I'm sorry Daniel I was way out of line and I apologize for my rude behavior I hope one day you can forgive me and my rash nature." He grabbed a nearby paper towel and started to wipe away the remaining watermelon juice on Daniels head.

After cleaning him Daniel only looked up at the stallion with a neutral expression making the young stallion uncomfortable "ummm...listen why don't we start from the top my name is Knight Shield nice to meet you." He gave a small smile and presented his hoof to Daniel which he nervously accepts.

"Let this be a lesson to all of you hear that actually agreed with what he said we are fight this war not because we want to but, because all of us want peace, and equality between all species great and small don't let the looks of another species fool your judgement in character." Said Princess Luna loud enough for all to in the tent and some outside to hear her.

They all nodded, and gave a salute before all saying "Yes your Highness!"

She nodded and looked down at Daniel who was now getting up from under the table with the help of Knight Shield and before she went to eat she stated in the same royal tone as before "After all of you are done here start packing everything up we are leaving at noon!"

All the guards including Knight Shield saluted "Yes your majesty!"

Luna nodded, and all went on to what they were doing beforehand and Knight Shield went off as she and Vinyl went to sat down at the table.

Luna quickly set her plate down and brought Daniel closer to her "Are you alright Daniel?"

Daniel nodded in response but suddenly, gave Luna a hug for what Luna could only assume is thanks for helping him yet again.

Luna smiled and nuzzled the small colt and pointed him back to his meal "Here Daniel finish your meal to your hearts content."

Before Luna could start eating she gave Vinyl a thankful smile "Thank you Vinyl for defending Daniel against Knight Shield"

Vinyl nodded and waved her hoof dismissively "Think nothing of it Luna I'm sure you would've done the same for me."

"Still, thank you my little pony." Luna said with a smile "Daniel say thank you to the kind pony who helped you." Luna told Daniel with a kind but, stern voice.

Daniel looked between Luna and Vinyl not sure what to do however, with a little nudge from Luna he spoke as best he could, "T-thank y-y-you M-miss V-Vinyl."

Luna nodded and nuzzled Daniel once again proud of him.

"It's quite alright Daniel it was no trouble, and please call me Vinyl as well ok?" Vinyl said, with a small grin on her face.

Daniel could only nod in confirmation, and went back to eating nearly done with his plate.

"Luna do you mind if I ask you something?" Vinyl asked curiosity in her gaze.

Luna looked up at Vinyl already finished with her meal "Of course Vinyl, what would u like to know?"

"It's just... with the way you have been treating Daniel since we found him will you be.....keeping him?" Vinyl asked, with genuine curiosity in her voice.

"I don't understand what you mean Vinyl, could you elaborate?" Luna responded confused and a little concerned on what she meant by "keeping" him.

Vinyls response was delayed from her trying to come up with the suitable words "Well Luna what I mean is you treat him as if he were your own so would you consider "adopting" him?"

Luna's eyes widened she hadn't thought of that at all however, it did make sense thinking about it the castle back home already, had enough orphans that when she counted last made her depressed and adding more would only hurt her heart more. *And who knows how my little ponies would react to his UNIQUE appearance.....* she thought worriedly.

Although, she knew in time they would get used to him she also knew that even after that he would be subject to a lot of verbal and maybe even physical abuse and just the thought of that made Luna's blood boil.

"Luna!?" Luna's thoughts were interrupted by Vinyl calling her name a concerned look on her face.

Luna shook her head of her thoughts "y-yes I suppose y-you have a p-point there...However, I want Daniel to decide this." She looked towards Daniel who had upon hearing his name turned to Luna already done with his meal.

"D-Daniel how w-would you feel a-about me be your m-mother?" Luna asked nervously causing Vinyl to look at her princess in astonishment she had never thought in all the world that after everything they had done she would be nervous to ask a child to be his mother.

Daniel looked at Luna in confusion at the question he had been asked, but more specifically the last word of the question "mo-....mo-..." Daniels eyes widened upon realizing after saying the first two letters and asked "Mama?...."

Luna's heart wrenched in her chest just hearing those words from this young colt made her so filled with happiness. "Y-yes I would be your M-Mama, b-but only if y-you want me to be..."

Daniel for the first time gave his first tooth filled smile and hugged Luna with everything he had "Mama!"

Luna got pushed back a little in her seated position, but a smile soon spread across Luna's muzzle along with a few tears of happiness at hearing him say that wonderful word to her. "Then it's settled...from today on I'll be your Mama." She said happily returning the hug Daniel gave her giving Luna what she thought she'd never have....a Son.

Vinyl who had been there to see this all transpire wiped a tear that had escaped her eye feeling so touched at the scene that was transpiring in front of her feeling really happy for her princess.

The hug which to Luna and Daniel seemed to last forever but only lasted a couple minutes finally broke away and Luna wiped away the tears that had flowed down her cheeks. "Well then...hehe that escalated rather quickly. I'm so sorry that you had to see that Vinyl."

Vinyl shook her head "No apologies needed Luna that was very beautiful, Daniel seems like he's happy about it." She gestures to Daniel who is swinging his legs back and forth on his seat with a smile on his face.

Luna chuckles at the sight "Yes well it does look that way doesn't it."

Luna soon rises from her seat and Daniel follows suit "Well Vinyl I hope you don't mind but I'm afraid me and my Son must return to our tent to gather our things."

Vinyl nods her head "Of course your highness I suppose I'll do the same, but I'm sure we all will see each other soon."

"Of course come now Daniel we must gather our things and head off home." Luna started trotting towards the direction of their tent.

"H-home?" Daniel asks curiously, as he follows close behind her.

"Why yes Daniel I am taking you to your new home to live with me." Luna says excitedly, with a new bounce in her step.

*These will be the first steps into our new lives I just hope everypony back at home is more welcoming than that Knight Shield character.*
Luna thought hopefully as they continued to walk towards their tent.

Chapter 4 "Travels To The Castle Of The Two Sisters"

View Online

*I was foolish....* Luna thought worriedly as Daniel was lying on her back exhausted and looking very much as if he was burning up.

She looked upon the small colt with worry covering him more with her wings, but to no avail, she could still see the source of his sickness. Several small holes in the bottom of his hind legs with blood still flowing slightly from them with the rest around it dry and crusty.

*how could I not notice something so simple..."
Luna thought, scolding herself.

It had only been an hour after her soldiers, Daniel, and herself had begun to travel to their home in the Castle of the Royal Sisters and for the most part it had been fine. Vinyl had taken it upon herself to teach Daniel how to speak more properly like most ponies did, and had been making albeit slow progress teaching him.

"Very good Daniel your doing very well" Vinyl said happily patting Daniels head softly as a reward.

Daniel flinched at the touch but soon smiled slightly at Vinyl nodding his head "T-Thank you Vinyl."

"Your very welcome Daniel but, I think that's enough for today." Vinyl stated obviously, proud of his progress both physically and mentally.

Daniel nodded and sped up to walk side-by-side with Luna who could only smile down at his efforts to try to keep up.

"How are your studies coming along Daniel?" Luna asked looking down at the young colt with a grin on her face.

"Good so far Mama at l-least that's what miss Vinyl says" Daniel says struggling slightly with some of his words.

Luna nodded and with a slight motion brought him closer to her with her wing "That's good to hear Daniel however, you must study more when we get home and not just words you must also learn how defend, and fight for yourself so that you can help our little ponies live freely and happily understand." She said kindly with a hint of seriousness in her voice.

Daniel nodded looking down "Y-Yes Mama..." he said in what Luna had assumed was Daniel being a bit disappointed in himself.

"Now Daniel nothing to worry about your just starting out so, I won't expect you to be a natural right away I just want to be sure you can protect yourself if I'm not around to help you." Luna assured Daniel with a nuzzle only to feel something she did not expect.

*He feels.....hot...* just as she thought this Daniel fell over with a thud stopping Luna in her tracks.....

-Back To The Present-

*where is that blasted doctor* just as she thought this a mare with a bright red mane and pink coat with big blue eyes wearing a medics uniform began to walk beside her.

"I apologize your highness for my lat-"the nurse tried to apologize.

"No time for formalities your patient is here and I want him treated NOW....." Luna emphasized, with slight anger.

"My apologies Princess I'll get started immediately" the mare said with fear taking her voice from her as she began looking over and bandaging the young prince.

A few minutes pass, and to Luna they felt like agony worried about her barely made Son and now she might lose him in consequence to her foolishness. "H-how is he?" Luna asked, a hint of nervousness in her voice.

"Don't worry your highness it's just minor cuts, and incisions from some sharp rocks it seems that ummm..."

"Daniel..." Luna interrupted making sure the nurse wouldn't address HER son as some kind of creature.

"Y-yes Daniel seems to just have a mild fever, and slight exhaustion due to all this walking I suggest, a little rest, and for you to make some sort of padding for his hind hooves so he doesn't further injure them" the nurse said getting more serious overtime.

Luna sigh relieved that her son had nothing more than a fever but, left a mental note of the mares warning, and for her to summon a tailor to fashion some garments for the young colt.

"Very well, thank you my little pony forgive me for my earlier remarks I was just...worried about Daniel, and wished to know his condition as soon as possible." Luna stated, finding it difficult to keep her composure.

The nurse could only bow as she trotted back to her intended station.

After a few moments soft sobs are heard from Daniel on Luna's back and, she's quickly and quietly consoled the young colt "Shhh shhh it's ok Daniel your gonna be fine." She gently nuzzled Daniel with her muzzle assuring that statement.

However, the sobbing continued and Luna sighed understanding Daniels point of view.

*being so young and, yet experiencing all those horrors only to be hurt after only less than a days worth of kindness* Luna thought, trying to think of a way to calm the young colt down.

Suddenly, Luna's head jolted up as she remembered, "My mothers lullaby...that might work." She quietly said looking down to her son and tried her best to sing it as her mother sang to her.

"Heavens will hold

a beauty in gold

Swings on her crescent throne,

Draped in diamond stone"

As Luna began her song Daniel was slowly yet, surly trying to calm down to hear his mothers song looking at her curiously with tears in his eyes.

"Luna the moon,

In all her might

The beloved,

Goddess of the night"

As Luna was about to enter the chorus of the song she saw that Daniel had stopped crying but still had residue of his tears that she began to wipe away.

"In her star

Studded midnight sky,

Wiped a teardrop

From her eye"

As Luna began to hum as her mother did after the chorus Daniel looked in awe at his mother truly enjoying his mothers beautiful voice as she continued,

"Every night

She waited without strife

The sun, her life

Drowned her heart in love and she

Had sunk too deep,

Too late to flee.

Forbidden

To meet"

Luna began to tear up at remembrance of her late mother and singing this song to her son even if not blood made her happy that she can sing this for her own child's happiness.

"Day

And night,

The sun and the moon

Dreamt to unite"

As Luna began, to hum another part of the lullaby Daniel yawned the lullaby plus the warmth his mothers body made him very sleepy and, made him feel safe with her as he began to lay his head down on the back of Luna's neck closing his eyes content to just listen.

"Take my hoof,

Let's sail away.

Amidst the stars,

The Milky Way,

We'd light up the midnight blue

Together, me and you

My love,

I'd wait for you"

"Take my hoof,

Let's sail away,

Amidst the stars,

The Milky Way,

We'd light up the midnight blue

Together, me and you

My love
I'd wait for you"

As Luna was about to finish her lullaby she saw Daniel had fallen asleep to her mothers song and, that made her smile however she finished the song in a quieter tone slowly getting closer to her sons forehead.

"Heavens shed

A tear tonight

The sky grew dark

Without your light

Luna sang her sad

Lullaby

And faded

Into the night sky"

As she finished, she planted a small kiss on her sons head "Rest well, my son...." she softly said, with a smile.

"Ahem" a voice softly said, getting the attention of the monarch as quietly as it could.

Luna turned, to see Vinyl walking next to her with a rather large file in her magics grasp with a rather serious look in her eyes.

"I think you should read this your highness." she stated, floating the file towards Luna.

"What is this Vinyl?" Luna asked, a curious look upon her face as she grabbed the file within her own magic.

"It's the file you requested on Daniel and, I don't think you'll like it." Vinyl said taking a rather somber tone.

Luna looked at the file a hint of nervousness plaguing her mind making her wonder what the enemy did to her new found son.

As she was lost in her thoughts Daniel shifted on her back no doubt trying to find more comfort in his mothers embrace. This caused Luna to look back to her son and, suddenly all her anxieties disappeared.

*No matter what I read on this file it won't change the fact he is my son I will love and, protect him no matter the difference.* Luna thought mind now clear and, determined.

Luna took one last look at the file containing everything the enemy knew about her son and, took a deep breath opening the file to its first pages.

Chapter 5 "The Prince's Arrival"

View Online

It had been several days since Luna had read THAT file,...... and just as she promised herself she treated him as she normally did.

However, she was finding it harder with each step not to spread her wings, and fly in pure rage towards the enemy for all the pain her son had gone through in that awful laboratory.

Daniel had somewhat healed from his injuries and was now walking/limping side-by-side with his mother.

"Are you alright, Daniel?" Luna asked, while gently nuzzling the young colt.

Daniel nodded slightly, looking up at his mother "I-I'm ok Momma it doesn't hurt too bad anymore."

"Very well, but if it starts to become too much I want you to tell me ok?" Luna said, worry in her voice.

Daniel nodded, once again staying close to his mother.

Luna knew that the bandages the nurse has been re-applying every day has been a satisfactory way to keep his feet from anymore injuries, however they could only do so much...

*I should ask one of the cordwainer's at the palace to attempt to make special shoes for him...* Luna thought still looking towards her son.

"Your Highness, we will be arriving at the palace in less than an hour." Stated one Of Luna's many lunar guards wearing a one star uniform.

Luna only nodded, the guard taking that as his cue to move on to his other duties as Luna turns to daniel.

"You hear that Daniel we're almost to your new home." Luna said, happily smiling at her son.

Daniel could only shuffle nervously on his hind legs as he looked up as his mother, "Do y-you think they will like me?" He asked genuinely curious and, a bit nervous.

Luna look down at him seeing the worry in her son's eyes she wanted to comfort him, and tell him that 'of course ponies would like him in fact even love him.' However, she couldn't tell him that because even she herself couldn't predict how ponies would react to him so she did something that she'd know she regret, she told him her honest opinion.

"W-well Daniel I-I'm not entirely sure....but, what I am sure of is that with time I'm sure all the ponies will see you as one of us." She said, trying to make it seem better than even she imagined.

Daniel could only look down, contemplating on what his mother said trying really hard to understand.

"B-but, I'm n-not one of you momma...I don't have hooves, wings, I don't even know if I have magic. H-how can I get the ponies to accept me when I'm so....different."

Luna visibly flinch at her sons statement, she didn't expect him to understand what she meant so quickly.

*I guess those lessons with Vinyl are really helping him* she thought, a little pride welling up in her heart.

Luna sighed, and using a hoof lifter her sons chin to face her. "I-I'm so sorry Daniel but, I think this is something you will have to figure out yourself. However, if you need any guidance or just somepony to talk to you can talk to Vinyl, your Auntie Celestia, or me understand?" Luna smiled, to him to emphasize her point of trusting each other.

Daniel smiled back happy that his mother helped him feel better. Daniel was about to ask her something else however, the moment was ruined by his stomach growling loudly.

"Sounds like somepony is getting hungry." Said a familiar voice behind them.

Luna and Daniel looked behind them the ladder looking with excitement and happiness while the former looked at that mare with a small smile.

"Vinyl!!" Daniel exclaimed, excited to see his teacher, and closest friend.

Vinyl while chuckling pats Daniel's head gently while levitating a large bowl of fruits. "I thought so, I brought you some fruit hopefully it'll be enough till we get to the palace."

"Yay!!" Daniel exclaimed, trying to reach up and grab the bowl greedily.

"Now Daniel be patient and, say thank you to Vinyl." Luna said, in a stern yet motherly tone.

Daniel looked quickly at his mother and, just as quickly calmed down. "Sorry momma, thank you for the food Vinyl."

Vinyl shook her head, "Don't worry about it kiddo you earned it with all the progress you've been doing." She said, a small smile adorning her muzzle.

Luna nodded, the same kind of smile forming on her muzzle, "Yes, you have been getting better I must say." She chuckled, "However your manners still need a bit of work."

Daniel chuckled nervously rubbing his head, "hehe sorry momma I just can't help it..."

Luna sighed smiling knowingly, "Yes, I suppose you can't you are only a child." She said placing a hoof on Daniel's head ruffling his hair a bit.

Daniel only giggled as he grabbed the nearby bowl and, began to eat hungrily.

Luna and, Vinyl couldn't help but chuckle truly happy that Daniel has become more open to them.

--------------------

The palace was just as Luna left it well, relatively what with all the attacks from several different species including but not limited dragons, griffins, and many different kinds of monsters from the surrounding forest.

"Seems that the palace is still standing" Vinyl said, as they all were crossing the bridge towards the large castle fortress.

"Yes, well Daniel what do you think of your new home?" Luna asked looking back to her son laying on her back nervously hiding himself behind her mane.

"I-it's big a-and kinda scary momma are you sure it's s-safe?" Daniel asked still hiding behind his mothers mane frightened by the large castle before him.

"Of course, inside this castle I promise nothing will ever hurt you again." Luna stated her voice growing slightly darker.

"And besides," Vinyl said, patting Daniel's forehead gently "if anyone tried we'd protect you no matter what kiddo."

Daniel smiled, giggling a little at the friendly touch. This scene brought a smile to Luna's muzzle but, she still worried about how the residents of the castle would react.

*I just hope they don't try to hurt him, maker knows how I will react towards ANY pony or, creature who would hurt MY BABY.* Luna thought, darkly subconsciously moving her wings to cover daniel more protectively.

As they drew closer to the castle a few solar guards could be seen patrolling the castles exterior.

"The Princess has returned! Open the gates!" Yelled one of the solar guards causing Daniel to flinch and hide more under Luna's wings.

Two solar unicorn guards just above the large gates began to use their magic to open the door for the long awaited lunar princess.

As they began to enter Daniel chanced a look out of Luna's mane only to receive a large spear pointed at him.

"What is that!?!" Yelled the guard clearly cautioned by the young boy.

Daniel frightened, went back to hiding behind behind his mother "M-mommy? He's scaring me..."

Before Luna could do anything however, Vinyl pushed the guard back and stared him down with her glowing red eyes threatening him to continue "That's enough Colonel! He's with us and, he's the princess's son so unless you want to be killed for treason I suggest you PUT IT DOWN!!"

The pen-drop silence, allowed the sounds of the residence of the castles busy marketplace be heard perfectly but, what drew Daniel back from hiding was a sound he's only heard from himself, the sound of children's laughter.

However, his curiosity was short lived as the solar guard put his spear down and quickly bowed to the lunar goddess. "Please forgive me your majesties for my foolishness."

Luna was looking at the foolish guard of her sisters and, would keep him in mind and make sure he received the harshest punishme-

"I forgive you mister..."

This caught everypony by surprise especially Luna looked at Daniel in surprise. "Are you sure my son?"

"After the way he treated you?" Vinyl asked, just as surprised as Luna.

Daniel nodded nervously still hiding half his face under a wing "J-just as long as he doesn't do it again..."

"O-of course not prince never again!" He stated a little too loudly as he bow low enough for his muzzle to touch the floor.

Luna couldn't believe it, after everything her son had gone through in that horrible lab he is still as kind as any child could be. This brought a feeling of pride and happiness that caused tears to flow from her eyes as she quickly nuzzled her beloved son's head.

"Mommy a-are you okay?" He asked, worried And unaware that his mother was crying tear of joy.

All she could do was kiss his forehead lovingly hoping he would understand the gesture. To her joy he did and they continued on into the castles main courtyard/marketplace.

Vinyl followed suit her own smile present with just as much pride welling up in her chest.

--------------

The marketplace was always an amazing sight, full of smiling faces and, playful banter coming from nearby children.

Daniel was most of all curious as he saw several young ponies played a game completely unknown to him as he rode on his mothers back.

"Momma, c-can I play with them?" He asked clearly nervous.

Luna smiled, nuzzling him again as they kept moving "Yes, but later okay Daniel right now we have to get you some clean clothes, and something to cover your hind hooves then, we are going to see your auntie so I can introduce you to her."

Daniel nodded, understanding there was a lot to be done before he could play.

"O-okay momma I u-understand."

The sound of his voice was painfully clear, disappointment it hurt Luna to prevent her son from the joys of a regular child. Truth be told she could've do all she needed without Daniel but, she couldn't let him out of her sight even for just a moment, after what happened at the gate she didn't want it to happen again.

"I promise, you will get to play soon just be a good boy for your momma okay?" Luna said, nuzzling Daniel lovingly.

Daniel giggle as her muzzle tickled him, "hehe, yes momma."

"I'm sorry to intrude Luna but, the lunar guards and I must report to the barracks I will rejoin you and Daniel soon." Vinyl said, bowing to Luna and Daniel respectively.

Luna nodded, with a smile "Yes, of course Vinyl we will see you soon."

However, before Vinyl could leave Daniel reached out with great difficulty and placed a hand to Vinyl's shoulder worry in his eyes.

"Y-you will come back r-right?"

Vinyl smiled, reached and, patted Daniel's head with hoof gently while chuckling.

"Of course, kiddo I'll be right back just stick with your mother, and you'll be ok."

Daniel nodded, understanding retracting his hand back from Vinyl's shoulder.

Luna nodded as well as, she began to trot forward to the castle with Daniel huddled closely to her.
Daniel saw all kinds of species completely new to him but, they all seemed nice to him. Nonetheless he stayed with his mother as they entered the castle where countless amounts of lunar and solar guards were training some stopping to bow to their lunar monarch.

"Momma, I'm getting hungry." Daniel stated, simply his stomach growling.

"Yes Daniel, I know we will eat soon but, right now..." she waved at one of the several servants with a violet mane, and a rosy pink coat.

"Welcome back Princess Luna, what can I do for you today?" Asked the mare with a small bow.

Luna waved a good gesturing her to rise as she lifted Daniel off her back him struggling just a bit before just allowing it.

"Hello Ivory Sparks, this is Daniel and I'm assigning you to clean him up as well as dress him in new garments." She introduced, as Daniel hid behind one Luna's front legs.

Ivory eyes darted between the princess and the young boy in surprise and a bit of fear but, nodded her head hesitantly. "Y-yes your majesty it will be done."

Luna nodded, seeing the hesitance in her eyes "I also want you to tell the local cordwainer to fabricate some shoes for him without hooves he can get easily hurt and, that brings me to my warning..." Luna stated, getting closer.

It was as if the room itself went dark around them as Luna darkly warned, "If I find that ANY of the guards or, servants hurt this child I will PERSONALLY see to it that they are punished understand?"

Ivory gulped audibly, clearly fearful for her life "Y-y-yes y-your m-m-majesty." She said bowing just as the solar guard did earlier.

"Momma?? W-where are you going?" Daniel asked afraid to be with any pony besides Vinyl or his mother.

Luna lowered her head down to meet Daniel's fear stricken face. "I'm going to get us some food and gather your auntie and, some of mommies.....friends." Luna said, unsure if that word really described the royal council.

Daniel looked down, still very afraid to be alone but, reluctantly nodded, but looked toward Ivory nervously, "I-is she a nice pony m-momma?" Daniel asked.

Luna nodded, "Ivory, was rescued just like you....from captivity and slavery." She stated, looking to Ivory towards the end of the sentence.

This cause both Daniel, and Ivory to look at each other in surprise.

Ivory looked to Daniel in surprise, *H-he's so young...those monsters still recruiting children.* Ivory thought darkly.

"I understand, now Luna I will take good care of him I promise." Ivory stated bowing to Luna this time calm and collected.

Luna nuzzled Daniel lovingly and gave him a small kiss on his nose "I promise, Daniel I'll see you at dinner and I'll give you a big meal to make you happy okay?"

Giggling and Looking back to his mother he nodded, "Y-yes momma I'll go with m-mrs. Ivory."

Luna nodded, and for the first time since they met, left him with Ivory to get cleaned up. At first she wanted to rush back to him and give him his first proper bath herself but, she knew things had to be done regardless so, relentlessly she steeled herself, and trotted in the direction of the throne room.

------------

Daniel was afraid, there wasn't any other way to describe this feeling that has lived with him for as long as he can remember.

"Shall we go, my young prince?"

Daniel looked at the mare named, Ivory nervously but, nodded nonetheless walking next to her with a slight limp.

The pain in his feet was still there but, it was manageable to him as he walked beside her.

"Mrs. I-Ivory?"

Ivory looked at him not with a very neutral expression which, brought Daniel some comfort as she wasn't look at him as those two mean guards were before.

"Yes, Prince Daniel?" She asked, raising an eyebrow curious on what he wanted.

"Is w-what my momma s-said true? Are you l-like me?" Daniel asked, a bit scared as much as he knew of the terrors that were held in that library he was afraid to find out what other things those monsters had.

Ivory stopped in her tracks, and looked at Daniel a little darkly. However, when Daniel shied away Ivory collected herself and answered straightforwardly. "Yes, it's true I was found like you but, by Princess Celestia I was very young, and afraid. Nonetheless Celestia took me in and, made me part of the royal maids it's thanks to her that I'm a lot better then what I was. In fact I have a daughter of my own now around your age I think."

Daniel smiled, his fear diminishing glad that he didn't have to worry about his new auntie hating or treating him like a monster.

Ivory noticed his change in mood and, smiled herself, "Maybe my daughter, and you can be friends? She's been needing some friends to take her away from all those books of hers." She jokingly stated causing Daniel to get more comfortable around her.

Daniel smiled excitedly, "R-really Mrs. I-Ivory do you really think me and your d-daughter can be f-friends?"

"Of course, I'll help you in any way I can my young prince I am after all your maid as well."

Ivory stated, more normally than she has since they had met.

-----------------

The rest of their walk went in relative silence with neither party wanting to upset the other as they arrived to the royal bathing chamber.

As expected many ponies were frightened of the young prince's appearance so, as most would imagine they were relieved to finally arrive at they're destination and Ivory opened and closed the door behind Daniel.

"Well here we are d-do you know how to bathe yourself by any chance?" Ivory asked.

Daniel tilted his head clearly confused, "B-bathe?? Momma told me that I would get c-cleaned that's all..." Daniel said nervously.

"I expected as much come here." She requested as she began to rip off the master shreds of fabric that Daniel had on.

Daniel allowed this to happen completely unaware of what the mysterious mare was up to.

After Ivory was done removing the boys clothes she looked at him in shock seeing all of his scars.

"You poor boy....you had it worse than I did."

She stated, a little louder than she intended.

Daniel shied away from Ivory and looked to the water afraid of what it might be for.

Ivory slowly reached a hoof into the liquid and a look of slight surprise was on her muzzle.

"Huh somepony has recently prepared this, most probably for your.....mother's return." Ivory stated, still not used to addressing him as a prince.

Ivory slowly and gently lifted Daniel up, placing him in the water.

At first, Daniel shivered in fear of what this strange new object was but, soon found it relaxing and slowly sat down allowing it to almost reach his neck as he did so.

Ivory observed Daniel curiously a little happy that he was starting to enjoy the water when she thought of something, a certain something that all children loved to do.

"Hey Daniel?"

Daniel looked over to Ivory only to be blinded by the strange liquid hitting his eyes making them hurt.

"Ahh!" Daniel screamed, causing Ivory to chuckle at first but, she slowly realized that.....he was crying.

"Oh no, no Daniel I'm sorry I didn't mean to-" Ivory tried to reach out to him only for him to pull away and get as far as he could from her.

Luckily for her however, he couldn't get out by himself so he just curled up In the corner sobbing and silently whispering.

"M-momma...."

Ivory looked at Daniel her heart aching. As she looked over him she saw.....herself.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you..." Ivory slowly trotted towards him.

Daniel rubbed his eyes, still stinging him as he did his best to be on guard.

Ivory sat at the edge of the bath looking down, smiling sadly, "I-I remember when I first came to the castle..."

Daniel looked at Ivory, fear quickly replaced by curiosity.

"I was completely frightened by everyone in this camp, even the one who brought me here...."

"W-Who Mrs. Ivory?" Daniel asked, getting closer to her interested in her story.

Ivory chuckled, "Your Aunt Celestia."

Daniel's eyes widened, although his mother told him a lot about his auntie he felt that her stories were...forced, but the way Ivory talked about his Aunt felt sincere and admirable.

"R-Really?"

Ivory nodded, "Yes, she took me in and while she didn't make me a daughter like Luna made you her son but, she did look out for me, and the first thing we did when we got to the castle was take a bath in this room in fact."

Daniel's mouth widened looking around in newfound interest moving around in the pool rather easily.

"I was just as afraid as you were just now but, when Celestia saw this she splashed me and played with me in the tub, getting herself all soaked as well we had so much fun." Ivory smiled warmly at both Daniel, and at the memory of that time while she lived in the castle it's been a long while since she had spoken to Celestia and, after this she felt like paying her a visit but first, she had to get the young prince ready for dinner.

"S-So, when you s-splashed me y-you wanted to play w-with me?" Daniel looked at her with surprise, and happiness.

Ivory nodded, rubbing Daniel's head as Vinyl did when she was proud of him.

"Now, my young prince I believe it's time for your first bath."

Daniel nodded, "O-Okay M-Mrs. Ivory."

Ivory shook her head, "No, you may call me Ivory Daniel after all we are family. Now close your eyes the soap may burn your eyes if it goes in there."

Daniel nodded, tears of happiness streaming down his face.

-----------------------

Luna had been waiting for about two hours for her baby to return to her side and, she was now waiting at a rather large dining room with more than half of the royal Night and Day guards.

However, the pony sitting next her was looking at her with a curious expression.

"Luna is something wrong? I haven't seen you this nervous since....well ever really does this happen to have to do with the little "somepony" you wanted to introduce to me?" Celestia asked, very calmly with a hint of worry in her voice.

Luna looked at her older sister her pink mane flowing in the same manner as her own star field one in fact her very opposite in every way her coat was a beautiful white shade and, looked just as majestic as her title suggested.

"Y-Yes, it does my sister. However, I must ask you to be patient with him." Luna replied a little nervousness in her voice.

Celestia smirked and gave Luna a suggestive look, "Oh....it's a "he" my my, does my little Lulu have a coltfriend?"

Luna blushes hard obviously embarrassed by the question, "N-NO! its nothing of the sort..." Luna stated quickly, her sister not even close to the truth.

Celestia giggles at her sisters adorable nature, "Aww Lulu don't be-"

--------------

The sound of the Dining rooms door never seemed to open as loudly to Luna until, this moment as she saw her son enter.

He had been completely cleaned of the dirt and grim that accumulated over both, the return to the castle and, his time in THAT lab. He looked so adorable his skin was positively glowing with new found life, his hair which had been a dull, old grey before had turned itself to a sparkling silver that shun just as beautifully as the night sky. Finally, his outfit was absolutely adorable he wore a well-made wool black shirt, leather pants, fresh new cobbled shoes made specifically for him, but what really caught the rooms attention was his new fabricated trench coat made to resemble Luna's mane, and coat and had a depiction of the night sky at its finest all over it.

Daniel truly looked like the son of the night his red eyes complementing the whole ensemble. However, Luna could see that Daniel still wore the tags that she had found on him underneath his shirt.

Luna stood up smiling, and trotted to her son and looked at him with pride, "You look so handsome, Daniel." Luna whispered to Daniel in a cute baby voice that made Daniel smile and giggle with embarrassment.

"Luna, who pray tell is this?" asked, the voice of Celestia behind Luna catching her attention.

Luna turned to her sister wrapping her wing around Daniel bringing him close, the room becoming quiet and all guards in the room attentions on the royal sisters.

Luna took a breath and, stood proud and addressed everyone in the room, "This, my dear sister is MY SON I found him In the wastelands and decided to adopt him."

Celestia took several steps back in surprise and the whole room was filled with gasps, and whispers.

"YES, THIS IS YOUR NEW PRINCE OF THE NIGHT!"

Chapter 6 "The Dilemma"

“Now Daniel, I want you to wait in mommy’s room and, draw for a bit while your auntie and I have a talk over in the next room.”

Daniel nodded, and with a small quill moved to the rather large desk. At first, he had an issue sitting on the chair provided due to Luna’s larger size but, a small nudge from Luna’s muzzle and he was perfectly fine.

Luna smiled at this but, it quickly faded as she closed her door.

*I truly hope I can keep that smile on his face* Luna thought, nervousness playing her mind as she slowly trotted to the nearby room next door containing her sister.

As she reached the doors to her sisters chamber she used her magic to open it slowly trying to put on a brave face to confront her sister should their conversation not go well.

When she entered the room she noticed that her sister was as she always was during this time of night before sleeping, planning more battle strategies against the monsters outside the castle walls.

“S-Sister I am here are you busy?” Luna asked, trying her best to be strong in front of her older sister.

Celestia stopped her quill writing placing it back in it’s ink bottle for later use.

“We are always busy Luna you know that by now.” Celestia said, rather coldly without turning to her.

“I know, believe me I do but-“

“Then you Luna should know that we nor the council have time to deal with this new....thing you brought into our home what is it?” Celestia interrupted turning and unfolding her large wings to emphasize her seriousness on the matter.

Luna’s eye twitched at Those words “What did you just call him?” She muttered, darkly under her breath.

“It’s not a him Luna WE don’t even know what IT is you can’t just bring an unknown creature into our palace ESPECIALLY if that creature was found in the enemies b-“

Celestia was stopped in the middle of her lecture by Luna lifting her by the neck with her magic and pinning her to the wall in pure anger.

“HE IS NOT SOME SIMPLE CREATURE!!” Luna yelled, the strength in her voice heard all around the castle and even by some passerby’s that happen to be near the castle.

“HE is a kind and gentle boy who has had nothing but, immense pain, and agony in his life. However, despite that he is sitting in my quarters drawing and hoping that you will like him.” Luna continue, her voice slowly lowering itself along with her sister as she released Celestia from her magic.

Celestia stayed quiet letting Luna speak while rubbing her neck and looking at her with slight anger.

“Despite what you or the council thinks I WANT this boy to be MY SON, and as his Aunt YOUR duty is to protect him just as much as I will if you even attempt to take him from me!” Luna stated, looking her sister dead in the eyes all worry and fear that previously plagued her mind gone without a trace.

Celestia did not waver in any way keeping a stern composure as she spoke, “I will NEVER accept that THING as my nephew and I know the council and myself will agree that it does not belong here where it could potentially harm our subjects.”

“Does HE look like he could harm anything Celestia, he’s still malnourished and on top of that when we found him he was nothing but, a withered shell totally afraid of us he could barely even say a few words. Even the files we found about him suggest tha-“ Luna stopped in her tracks realizing what she had just said, but looking at her sister she saw that she noticed as well.

“What files....” Celestia said darkly, trotting till she was right in front of her sister using her naturally tall stature to intimidate Luna.

Luna sighed replying in the same tone as her sister, “.....When we found HIM some of the guards found files that were mainly about him however, most of them were burnt beyond recognition. There were literally dozens of files but, just about a quarter of them survived and those on there own was enough to show me he was harmless.”

Celestia narrowed her eyes, trying to see if anything her sister just said was a lie but, to no avail she knew Luna better than that.

So, she sighed “Show me the files Luna and then, and ONLY then will I attempt to help him if I am persuaded as you were.”

Luna perked up by this her eyes gain a shimmer of hope as she quickly exited the room.

She needed to find her.

She needed to find Vinyl Scratch.

————————————-

It was a surprise to Vinyl, she hadn’t expected Celestia to react as she did but, she supposed that in war you can’t be too careful.

She quickly trotted towards the chamber of the princess of the sun with a decently sized file and, quickly and loudly knock on the door three times.

The door opened quicker than Vinyl expect, as instead of the facing the Celestia she was met with Luna’s slightly disheveled muzzle.

“G-Good evening your majesty, you requested these?” Vinyl asked, holding the files in her magic and slowly levitating them over to the princess who quickly took both her and the file in her magic.

Vinyl was startled at this and looked quickly at her surroundings as most do when in a new environment. The room was quite inviting all things considered but, Vinyl senses a deep tension in the room as she turned to see both Princesses side-by-side.

“Y-Your majesties!” Vinyl slightly shouted, as she bowed to both monarchs.

Celestia raised her hoof dismissively, allowing Vinyl to raise her head and face them.

“Princess Luna tells me you have files on this....BOY....we are discussing?” Celestia asked, sternly and coldly to the young guard.

“Yes, your highness I have them here.” Vinyl answered, quickly and swiftly as she was taught to in training.

“Please, read them aloud to myself, and my sister.” Celestia requested, waving a hoof in Vinyls direction as if giving her the floor to a case.

Vinyl nodded, opening the file and reading exactly as it said.

Vinyl, much to her distaste and disgust continue for a good hour or so reading more and more files such as these with very little changes in them.

Celestia while still baring her stern look, Luna could not help but grind her teeth in anger at the pain they must’ve caused her child.

“May I see those commander?” Celestia asked, still not showing any emotion.

Vinyl simply nodded, gently using her magic to pass the files to Celestia.

Luna all the while felt uneasy, both for her son and for what she might have to face if Celestia was against helping her.

However, her worry subsided when she heard Celestia sigh as if in defeat looking to her with an unamused face.

“Are you certain that this....boy, won’t harm anyone?” Celestia asked, this being the SECOND time she actually addressed Daniel as a proper being.

Luna nodded sternly, her eyes more determined than Celestia had ever seen them.

Giving a large sigh, Celestia nodded her head her face for the first time changing to a very tired expression as she spoke.

“Fine....fine, i-I’ll help you sister.”

Luna was absolutely thrilled but, before she could say anything Celestia rose her hoof silencing her.

“I said “I’ll help you” that doesn’t mean the council will agree with this Luna they are above us in everything, and even with my help I can only bring you so far you have to come up with a stronger argument than this if you really wanna keep him.”

Luna’s head fell, the happiness that filled her knowing that her sister is on her side diminished with the thought of the council having the final say.

Celestia saw this and placed a caring hoof on her sisters shoulder, causing Luna to look up at her elder sister hopefully.

“We can manage my dear sister, I will not let them take my only nephew after all.” Celestia smiled at Luna, which seemed to cheer her up quite a bit, and caused her to chuckle.

“Yes, I suppose your right....”

“I know I’m right, trust me sister everything will work out....just have faith.” Celestia said as she nuzzled Luna lovingly.

Luna nodded, “Yes, sister.”

It was a beautiful moment between the sisters, a moment that they haven’t shared in a very long time.

“Well then, how about we go and see how....Daniel is doing, I think it’s time I properly introduce myself to my little nephew.” Celestia said, warmly to her sister.

Luna nodded, “Oh! Yes of course, Vinyl could you be so kind as to get some food for Daniel? He didn’t get the chance to eat.”

Vinyl bowed, happy to see things worked out....for the most part.

——————

As Vinyl left to the kitchen to gather some food, Luna and Celestia continued on to her quarters in relative silence.

“I’m pleased that you finally accept Daniel now Celest-“

“Don’t get me wrong Luna.” Celestia suddenly interrupted, stopping in the middle of the empty hall.

Luna looked back at her sister too surprised to speak.

“Luna, so far all that you have shown me is a couple of files that show that he was a subject to some kind of experiment. However this isn’t enough to prove that he ISN’T dangerous, nor does this give any reasonable or productive reason as to why this child should be here under any care much less under the care of someone of such high status such as you or I.” Celestia begins to trot passed Luna stopping in front of her sisters door which held the child in question to look towards Luna once again.

“I’m only helping you because the only thing I can do to somewhat convince the council to agree to this is to do either one of two thing, one is to continue the testing that the enemy was attempting to better understand both the boy and what the enemy has planned for us and our allies.” Celestia had a serious tone as if this option was the only one that she cared for and this infuriated Luna to her core.

“OR, we have him trained to help us fight the enemy and stomp away his trama with new ones that guarantee his alliance with us and prove to both the council and I that he can be useful. Either way, he must PROVE himself in order for anything to be done.”

Luna’s eyes widened, on one hoof she was more angry than anything she had ever experienced however on the other she knew her sister well enough that she was telling the brutal truth and the thought of her losing Daniel was enough to stun her into listening to her sister further.

Celestia sighed, seeing the internal struggle plaguing her younger sisters mind. “Sister, believe me I take no joy in this however these are the only choices we have.”

Celestia began to walk once again but, passed the room that contained the boy in question. “The council is currently on other duties however, so you have at least another week to get some kind of case going. As I said I will assist you but, in the end it’s the councils decision. I wish you and that boy the best, try and enjoy the time you have.”

Luna was in a state of shock, she couldn’t move due to the immense pressure now placed on her mind as she thought completely unaware of the fact her sister had taken Daniel’s file in her magic.

*What am I to do, if this comes to pass daniel may be imprisoned, or worse.....* Luna shook her head of the horrific thoughts about to flood her mind.

*NO! I won’t let it come to pass at the very least I want him to live his life in relative peace. I will defend my son till my final breath, no cost is too great.* Luna was about to continue her internal rant when she heard hoof-steps coming into the hallway.

“Princess Luna, I thought you and Celestia were already in your quarters with Daniel.” Vinyl said, slowly walking towards Luna while levitating a large platter of food from the mess hall.

Luna shook her head and forced a smile onto her muzzle as she looked at Vinyl. “Yes, well my sister had....duties.... to attend to and had to leave before meeting Daniel.” She stated, trotting up to the door and with her magic opening it slightly,

“Please, come in I-um we could use with some friendly company.” Luna gestured to the room putting a small emphasis on the word ‘friendly’.

Vinyl looked at the princess with a neutral expression, immediately sensing the princesses panicked tone. All she could do was nod and smile, “Yes, of course your highness.” She said, trotting into the room food following close behind her.

Luna was about to drop her smile when she felt a hoof on her shoulder looking down she saw Vinyl giving her a sympathetic smile, which she returned with a small genuine smile of her own as they walked into the room together.

It would be a long night for them both.

———————————————

Celestia had long since left the hallway that she and her sister ‘discussed’ the creature named Daniel and now, she stood in an unknown part of the castle which led to a large laboratory.

“Ah, Princess what brings you back to our lab?” Asked a very old looking unicorn, adorned with a lab coat and glasses.

“Oh...hello doctor, Yes well I have a very serious reason for coming here once again.” Celestia stated seriously, using her magic to levitate a file she had recently been given by her sister and Lunar guard.

The doctor looked at the file curiously, only to look up at her in shock and fear, bowing to the sun goddess for his life. “Y-your highness I-I didn’t realize that we left these behind i-it was my mistake!”

This however was a mistake, because when he did Celestia used her magic to lift the doctor by the neck choking him and, bringing him closer to her.

“This MISTAKE, is now sitting in my sisters bed chambers enjoying a good meal!” She snarled, tightening her magic around the doctors neck.

“P-please y-your majesty I-it won’t happen again.” The doctor choked, those being the only words he could muster.

“I know they won’t....” Celestia said darkly, swiftly snapping the doctors neck effectively killing him.

Dropping the now lifeless body to the floor she turned to a dark corner of the room where dark green eyes looked in the background a witness to the whole scene.

“You know what to do....” Celestia sternly said, turning quickly and walking back into a more known area of the castle.

As she did this the body belonging to the doctor was pulled by a strange magic into the darkness where the dark green eyes were.

Chapter 7 "First Day Pt. 1"

The morning sun shun brightly into Luna’s chambers hitting the lunar monarch’s eyes thus waking her from her much needed slumber. As her eyes adjusted to the harsh brightness of the sun she looked down, to her happiness to find the object (or more accurate the child) of her affections lying underneath her curled up in a small ball still wearing the new clothes that were made for him.

She couldn’t help the smile that spread across her muzzle, as she kissed the young boy’s forehead lovingly. *I wonder what he’s dreaming about...* Luna thought, as she looked over him seeing that her wings were wrapped warmly around him protectively.

Luna contemplated for a moment before deciding, *I’ll just have a small peek, no more no less. * she thought, already closing her eyes and preparing her spell to enter her son’s dream.

Before she could however, she felt light movement underneath her tell her that he was waking up. Slight disappointment washed over her however she dispelled it quickly and looked down at the waking prince.

“Nngh…m-momma?” Daniel asked groggily, oblivious to the world around him.

Luna couldn’t help but smile, gently nuzzling back to the waking world. “I’m here my little one, don’t fret” she stated lovingly, looking down to her son.

*I’ll always be here for you…* she thought, as her wings wrapped more firmly around Daniel.

Daniel’s eyes took a moment to adjust to the sun’s brightness however, when they did he looked up at his mother smiling warmly, tears flowing from his eyes as he did so.

A worried look quickly took place on the newly made mother’s muzzle. “W-what troubles you my little one?” she asked, in a motherly tone.

Daniel only shook his head, clinging to his mother in a tight embrace as his tears flowed. “N-no momma, I-I’m not sad.” He looks up to his mother, his smile still present and his face beaming with an inner light she had never seen before.

“I-I’m just so h-happy that it w-wasn’t a dream.”

Luna was struck with immense feelings, unlike any emotion she’s experienced, and it made her smile back at her son, returning the warm embrace as tears started to form in her eyes as well. The thoughts of last night coming back to her and a steely determination flooding her heart and mind as she looked at her son.

“Well of course it wasn’t a dream, you’re here with me and I promise that no matter what happens I’ll protect you with all the power I have.” Luna stated, through the tear that immense feeling taking over her.

Daniel looked up at her, excitement, and joy in his eyes. “R-really? D-do you promise?” he asked, with all the passion a child of his age could have.

All Luna did was hold him closer to her, letting her son know in the most heartfelt way she knew how that everything she said was the truth.

This small act between them, to anypony or any other creature on this world could only look to be any ordinary embrace, but to them it was a lifelong promise that only a mother and her child could ever share.

“How do those muffins taste Daniel?” Asked Vinyl, smiling at the slowly growing mess of muffin crumbs Daniel made.

Daniel smiled ear to ear, his face covered in crumbs as he swallowed what he had left in his mouth. “It’s REALLY tasty.” He stated simply, flashing a large toothy smile.

Vinyl simply laughed at how adorable the young prince was acting, as Luna wiped the crumbs off Daniel’s face causing him to flinch still smiling.

“Daniel, a prince shouldn’t eat in such a messy manner.” Luna stated, taking on a scolding tone as she did.

Daniel giggled, as he continued to eat the same way he has been for the past 20 minutes.

“It’s fine Luna, after all he’s still a child he has a lot of time to learn how to eat like a proper prince.” Vinyl stated casually, ruffling Daniel’s hair causing him to giggle in amusement.

Luna stopped cleaning abruptly, her face losing its previous smile and changing to a neutral yet, somber expression.

Vinyl quickly flinched, putting a hoof on Luna shoulder she smiled to her. “Hey, don’t worry we’ll figure something out I’m sure of it.”

Luna looked at Vinyl giving her a halfhearted smile nodding softly to her trusted friend.

When Vinyl joined the Lunar Guard, she was the only mare in her platoon, probably the first one ever to join the ranks willingly she was proud of that fact. However, never in her wildest dreams would’ve thought that she would be friends with one of great monarchs in equestria. It came as a surprise when Luna asked her to discuss what had happened the night before, not only because it was unexpected but the way she requested it sounded desperate as if she had been stripped of all hope she couldn’t say no.

She stayed, all through the night, listening to everything that had transpired prior to her leaving for Daniel’s dinner, she couldn’t believe the princess that controlled the sun itself could be so cold to someone her sister considered as a son much less her nephew.

*She has no right to judge him by his looks, she hasn’t even talked to him. * Vinyl thought coldly, personally glad she joined the lunar guard instead of the solar like her parents wanted.

She was interrupted from her thoughts, by a hand being placed on her hoof, gently squeezing and pulling on her.

As both Luna a Vinyl notice this, they both gazed upon the child that was the subject of their worry.

“I-Is something wrong?” Daniel asked, looking up at both with a concerned look.

Both the princess and her guard smiled, doing their best to alleviate his concerns.

“Of course, everything is perfect my little one.” Luna said softly, nuzzling him gently and placing a small kiss on his nose.

Vinyl chuckled, again ruffling his hair but also giving the little prince a nuzzle of her own. “Come on lil guy, what could be bothering your mother she’s the strongest out there, as for me it’ll be a long time before you can best me at anything.”

Daniel’s smile returned, giggling at the affection given to him, reaching out his arms to hug them. One they accepted and gladly returned, as they nuzzled Daniel lovingly.

“Oh! I almost forgot, Daniel how would you like to meet kids like you?” Vinyl asked, pulling herself away from the warm embrace.

This caused Luna and Daniel to look at her with surprise, Luna looking at her with more worry than anything.

“R-Really? I can play with the other kids?” Daniel asked, excitement starting to rise in him.

Vinyl nodded, smirking happily as she chuckled. “Of course, didn’t think you would be the only kid, here did you?

”Daniel started to jump excitedly in his seat, unable to contain his anticipation to meet other kids his age.

“Umm…Vinyl, may I speak to you for a moment.” Luna worriedly stated, gesturing for her to go to the farthest corner from where the young prince was eating.

Vinyl nodded, understanding what the princess wanted to discuss as she trotted into the corner.

Daniel simply got up off his seat, and began to jump on Luna’s bed excitedly.

“Are you sure about this Vinyl? I’m concerned, since even my sister didn’t accept him…” Luna whispered, trying her best not to be heard by her beloved son.

“I am Luna, he needs more interaction with other children his own age. Especially, during this time, if we want show the citizens of the town that he poses no threat to society the council may change their ruling to something more…pleasant.” Vinyl stated, keeping her voice as low as Luna’s.

Luna looked back, seeing Daniel jumping excitedly to meet others his own age. She nodded, trotting to Daniel a concerned look on her muzzle.

Daniel sees them approaching and ceases his jumping, looking at his mother in confusion.

“Son, come here and sit next to me, we need to talk…” Luna told him simply, as she sat at the edge of her bed, a little fear welling up inside her chest.

Daniel did as he was told looking up at his mother curiously, sitting down next to her his feet swinging up and down looking down at his hands nervously.

“Daniel, I understand that you want to meet other children your own age. However, you must know that we aren’t familiar with a being such as you, so most if not all others here may treat you differently…” Luna admitted, trying her best to say it in the nicest way she could think of.

“D-Does that mean, no one will like me?” Daniel asked, his excitement being taken over by the fear in his heart.

Luna lifted her hooves defensively, trying desperately to show that she didn’t mean it that way. “N-No! Of course not, I’m sure they will love you it’s just you need to let them get used to you and I’m sure you will get many friends.” She said, panicking trying her very best to bring up his spirit once again.

Daniel looked at his mother nervously, while he hugged his legs closer to his body. “D-Do you really think so…?” Daniel asked, clear that he was now getting scared of the possibility of being feared.

Suddenly, Vinyl wrapped a hoof around the young prince’s shoulder nuzzling him gently, doing her best to brighten up the mood. “Well duh kiddo, doesn’t matter what you look like I’m sure you will make more friends than anyone here.”

Daniel smiled, giggling at the affection shown to him as he immediately cheered up.

Luna nuzzled her son, picking him up in her magic and placing him in between her forelegs. “Daniel, I won’t tell you that everyone will accept what you are, but I want you to look for the ones who look at you not as a different creature but as a friend, and trusted comrade.”

Daniel looked at his mother not with fear or sadness, but confusion he had heard the word ‘friend’ before however the word ‘comrade’ made no sense to him. Regardless, he nodded his head in understanding if comrade meant the same as friend.

Luna nuzzled him gently, hope filling her heart that everything turns out okay. “Vinyl, please go find Ivory Sparks and bring her here today Daniel is to go with Starry Swirls to the schoolhouse.”

Daniel looked up at his mother stars in his eyes, excited beyond belief. “Really momma, I can really go to school?”

Luna only nodded, as Vinyl exited to find the mare in question.

“YAY!”

Ivory was surprised to say the least, at the request given to her just an hour ago as she and her daughter walked down the hall to the lunar princess’s chamber.

“Are we really going to meet the princess mom?” Asked Starry swirls, as she jumped up and down around her mother excited beyond belief.

Interrupted from her thoughts, she looked at her overly excited daughter, smiling expertly putting a hoof on the young filly’s head, immediately gesturing her to calm down and listen.

“Now Starry, you have already met Princess Celestia before, why are you so excited to meet her sister?” Ivory asked, chuckling softly at her daughter’s enthusiasm.

Starry’s eyes became star-filled, as she spoke. “Mom this is the PRINCESS of the NIGHT she’s Celestia’s most trusted general and the personification of the moon itself my very favorite time of day.”

Ivory rolled her eyes, her daughters use of words was always impressive, so it didn’t surprise her in the slightest anymore. “I understand, but please behave yourself you’re not just meeting the princess of the night and her adopted son.”

Starry’s eyes went wider, if that were even possible, as she looked at her mother in shock. “Luna adopted a son, who?” She asked, curious to know what her mother does.

“I don’t know as much as you think, from what I’ve been told Daniel was found after the recent battle in the badlands and was experimented on since infancy.” Ivory stated simply, knowing her daughter would fully understand and accept the seriousness of the situation.

Starry’s eyes went wide, her mind processing the information as she looked down. “S-So he’s like you mom?” she asked bluntly, with the same untamed curiosity as any child her age has.

Ivory simply nodded, not interested in going too deep into her past.

The rest of they’re walk went in relative silence, as Starry prepared to meet the colt that she would be going to school with.

The chamber of the lunar princess, was overflowing with the laughter of Luna and her newly adopted son to the point where any creature that passed by couldn’t help but feel a little giddier as Ivory knocked on the door.

The joyous noises that filled the room died down, as a magical aura surrounded the door in front of the two guests as Vinyl opened the door for them both.

“C-Commander Scratch, how are you?” Ivory asked, bowing to her out of personal habit.

Vinyl lifted her hoof, smiling knowingly. “Please Ivory, no need Luna has told me your connection to the crown if anything I should bow to you.”

Ivory only chuckled slightly, waving a hoof at Vinyl as they continued their conversation.

Meanwhile, Starry with her natural child-like curiosity sneaked past her mother and the commander to meet the prince that shares a similar past her mother has.

Starry was surprised, while she might’ve been prepared for a pony, or a griffon, tartarus she was even prepared for a small dragon but, nothing from neither school or her personal studies in magic and mythical creatures could’ve prepared her for what was jumping up and down on what she assumed was the lunar princess’s bed.

What she could only assume was a colt, was a little taller than her as far as she could see as he was jumping. A very bright patch of silver hair on his head, adorned with a black wool shirt that looked brand new, as well as leather pants that she’d only see a select few ponies wear around the marketplace.

He was in every sense of the word ‘different’, and that struck a cord in her that caused her heart to race in her chest. However, before she could examine him more her eyes fell upon his, those bright red eyes that looked like one of the most precious rubies.

Were looking right back at her.

Daniel was surprised, the filly that stared at him for the first time unlike most who looked at him, not with fear, or hatred but with curiosity.

Daniel was so entranced with the filly, her coat was a dull grey and her mane was simple white, but her eyes, those bright gold eyes looked deep into him causing his heart to race, losing all sense in what his body was doing.

“Watch out!”

Daniel quickly snapped out of his trance, but not in time to realize that while he was in his trance his body continued to jump on his mother’s bed and he was currently falling due to him jumping off the edge of the bed.

“AHHH!”

Starry flinched, afraid of the sight of seeing the colt fall.

However, that sound was never heard as Starry opened her eyes to see the prince surrounded by sky blue aura floating just above the floor.

Vinyl and Ivory’s sighs could be heard, as Starry turned to see both had just barely noticed and were now inside the chamber as Vinyl was just barely able to catch Daniel before he fell towards the stone floor stopping him just an inch away from the floor.

“Are you alright Daniel?” Vinyl asked, as she rushed to Daniel’s side worried for his condition.

Daniel looked at Vinyl, a light blush on his face, embarrassed by the fact he was so distracted that he nearly hurt himself looking at the filly.

“Starry, honestly couldn’t you be patient for a few more minutes while I talk to the commander?” Ivory scolded her daughter, as she entered the room.

“I’m s-sorry momma, I didn’t mean to startle him…” Starry said guiltily, looking to Daniel with concern.

Daniel looked to Starry in surprise, this filly the one who caused his heart to quicken and his mind to stop working for several seconds wasn’t afraid of him?

“I-It’s okay…n-no harm done.” Daniel said nervously, trying his best to hide his blushing face.

Both Vinyl and Ivory look at each other confused, but upon looking at both the young children here they smiled knowingly.

“Well, I suppose it’s time for you two to start heading to your classes.” Ivory stated, smiling as she pushed her daughter closer to the young prince.

It took no time for Vinyl to catch on, as she displayed the same knowing smile and followed along with Ivory’s plan. “Yes, Daniel you should go with miss Swirls to your first class.”

Daniel stopped staring at Starry’s eyes and looked at Vinyl nervously. “Y-You’re not c-coming with us?” he asked, a little fear in his voice.

Vinyl shook her head nuzzling Daniel gently. “Sorry buddy, I have to talk to Ivory about something, but I promise me, and your mother will come and get you from school.”

“Where is Luna by the way, I thought she wanted to speak with me?” Ivory asked, looking around the room to see if she had simply missed the lunar monarch.

“She’s dealing with political matters that involve the topic I wish to speak with you about.” Vinyl answered, silently gesturing to the young prince in between them.

This gesture however, was noticed by both Ivory and Starry the ladder knowing better than to give anything away but, worry plaguing her mind as she trotted up to the colt that captured her eyes.

“Come on Daniel, I promise it’s a lot of fun and there are lots of nice ponies and other species.” Starry said, grabbing the hand of the distracted colt.

Daniel was surprised, blushing at the sudden touch. “U-Umm…okay.” Daniel agreed, looking down trying to hide his face.

*Hmm…he’s warm…* thought Starry a small blush showing on her small muzzle.

Shaking her head, she smiled up at Daniel leading him quickly to the direction of her schoolhouse. “Come on Daniel, we don’t want to be late.”

Daniel while surprised at first, couldn’t stop himself from following the filly that has made his heart speed up with a large smile on his face.

“Have fun, please look after Daniel okay Starry?” Ivory called out worry in her voice.

“I will mom!” Starry called back, louder due to them not stopping.

With that Daniel was off to his first day of school.
“Now, Ivory please close the door we have…a lot to discuss.” Vinyl asked, her voice taking a stern tone.

“So, are you excited, for school I mean?” Starry asked, still trotting ahead of Daniel holding his hand with her hoof.

They had just exited the castle, and were now entering the market place of the small town. Daniel was more nervous than he’s ever been, not only is this the first-time walking through the market place since arriving, but he also was with a filly that was around his age.

“I-I guess…it’s my first time.” Daniel said quietly, trying his best to keep up with Starry.

Starry began to slow down still pulling Daniel, but allowing him to catch up to her. “Yes, my momma told me your just like her, aren’t you?” she asked bluntly, but with nervousness gripping at her heart.

Daniel nodded, now walking beside her. “Yeah…” he simply answered, looking away not really interested in remembering his time in that dark place.

Realizing that Daniel didn’t want to talk about this topic, she cleared her throat and quickly began to change the topic. “W-Well then, Daniel do you have any questions before we get there?”

“Umm…what is it like? My momma didn’t tell me a lot about school…” Daniel said nervously, unsure on how to talk to Starry.

“Ah, well school is a place of learning where we learn how to do things like, math, and science, and at the end we are taught basic combat moves to protect ourselves in case of an attack. It’s a place for all creatures like, dragons, griffons, and even some hippogriffs.” Starry explained, trying her best to simplify everything for Daniel.

Daniel became more curious, which drowns out the nervousness plaguing his mind. “What are dragons, griffons, and hippogriffs?” Daniel asked curiously, not knowing any of the creatures Starry just mentioned.

Starry was confused at first, but smiled at the chance to teach the young prince about some of the other species in this world.

“Well, if you must know…”

Chapter 8 "First Day Pt. 2"

Daniel kept listening, completely enthralled with the filly teaching him about the different and interesting species living in the small kingdom.

“Anyways, we are almost there are there any other questions?” Starry asked, looking slightly up at Daniel a small smile touching her face.

Daniel shook his head, taking his eyes off the young filly and becoming rather interested in the floor as a small blush spread across his face.

As they continued they’re walk, the school began to come into view along with the edge of the wall Daniel saw when he first arrived.

“Well…here we are if you need any help with notes I’d be happy to help.” Starry stated nervously, looking up at the prince with a small blush.

Daniel simply nodded, looking at the school curiously.

*W-What is this feeling in my chest* Daniel and Starry thought, looking down their blushes deepening.

“STARRY SWIRLS!” a female voice called, distress clear in her voice.

Immediately, Starry let go of Daniel’s hand for the first time since they left the castle straightening herself as a soldier would to his commanding officer.

“Y-YES MA’ME!” Starry replied, a little louder than intended as she looked down at her teacher’s front claws.

The creature that Starry addressed as a filly, looked rather strange to the young prince, she looked more like a griffon with her sharp talons grounding her to the dirt below, her wings which to him looked to be just as large as his mothers, and even a beak. However, Daniel noticed that instead of the lion’s tail that Starry described on their way over wasn’t present, instead it looked more like a pony’s tail, her hind legs ended in hooves rather than lion’s paws. All a shade of golden brown with darker brown spots covering her underside, except for her head and tail which were a color of white Daniel couldn’t describe. He looked at his soon to be teacher, with pure child-like curiosity.

This brought Starry out of her embarrassed state, as she looked at Daniel with worry, thinking that maybe he was afraid of their instructor.

*Daniel…* Starry thought, sympathy in her eyes as a small blush returned to her face.

“Miss Crush, I’m sorry for being late please don’t blame Daniel…” Starry stated, her voice losing confidence as she spoke to her instructor.

“Daniel?” Miss Crush questioned, looking over the boy curiously.

Daniel, shied away unsure how to respawn, choosing instead to nod his head gently. He maybe curious, but to him this ‘teacher’ made him very nervous all the same.

“So, you are the boy princess Luna came to tell me about?” Miss Crush questioned, more to herself than anyone as she slowly moved around the young prince looking him over suspiciously, stopping once she stood in front of both once again. “Well, I suppose I can’t punish either of you for being late.”

Starry worry began to fade as she looked at Daniel again, assuring him everything would be okay.

“However, you will have to stay late to help clean and catch the young prince up on his studies.” Miss Crush stated, a small smile playing on her beak as she ruffled her most prized student and her newest, and interesting student.

At this, Starry smiled grabbing Daniel’s hand, pulling him inside to start their new day of learning.

“Come on let’s sit together, there’s always an empty seat next to me.” Starry stated, causing the young prince’s face to turn a light shade of red, as he followed her not saying a word.

“Ah…young love.” Mrs. Crush chuckled under her breath, as she slowly entered the schoolhouse to start the day’s lesson.

It was probably one of the most, interesting experiences Daniel has had since being brought to the castle. The whole time during his new instructor’s teachings, Daniel had been asking questions nonstop about almost everything they discussed, causing the class to run longer than any had regularly expected. While Mrs. Crush, and Starry both appreciated his curiosity, most if not all the students looked at Daniel as if he was one of the most hideous, and idiotic creature they have ever seen.

As the class began to leave Starry eagerly moved her desk right against his, excited to see how the young prince thought of his first day of school was. “So, were the lessons easy to understand, or do you want my help to understand more?” She asked, her eye’s turning into the shape of stars, eager to teach Daniel everything she could about today’s assignments.

Daniel simply nodded, mesmerized by the stars in Starry’s eyes, a small blush spreading on his face as his heart began to race once again.

“Oh good, did you take notes? I didn’t see you do much writing.” Starry asked bluntly, receiving a rather confused look from the young prince.

“N-Notes?” Daniel repeated, still finding it hard to speak in full sentences at times especially around the filly that seemed to make him feel…happy?

“Yes notes, you know what you write down to remember specific, and crucial information?” Starry asked, her large vocabulary only confusing the young prince more.

Daniel only tilted his head, oblivious to what she had just explained to him as he did his best to try and understand.

Starry gave him a concerned look, sighing as she realized that she forgot to mention that little bit of information with him.

“I’m sorry Daniel; I forgot that this was your first time at school. Let me expla-“

“HEY SWIRLY!” interrupted a young boy’s voice, causing Starry to face hoof and groan in annoyance.

“Not him again, Daniel stay behind me okay.” Starry instructed, the young prince acting quickly behind her.

This time, Daniel quickly recognized the boy in front of them was a griffon, but a much smaller and assumed younger than he heard griffons could get. Behind him was another griffon, but one that looked a lot slenderer, and feminine than the boy, so Daniel could only assume she was a female. Alongside both, were two less intimidating griffons that bore angry looks on their beaks. The young prince looked on in caution, but also a hint of curiosity.

“Your stupid pet kept me, and my friends from our recess time.” The griffin stated, stopping right in front of the filly, Daniel hiding behind her fear written on his face.

“He’s not a pet Butch his name is Daniel, and it’s ‘my friends and I.’ not ‘me, and my friends.’’ The young filly corrected, doing her best to sound confident for the sake of her newfound friend.

“Oh, aren’t we feeling brave Swirly, so what is this freak your boyfriend or something?” Butch asked, pushing the unicorn roughly causing Starry to bump into Daniel.

“N-NO HE ISN’T” Starry unintentionally shouted, a large blush plaguing her muzzle.

“W-We aren’t f-friends?” Daniel asked shyly, worried that he might not have gained any friends like his mother told him.

“N-No we are friend’s Daniel, i-it’s just- he just- UGH!” Starry tried to form a coherent sentence, but was too flustered to say anything that made any sense.

“I can’t believe this little ‘Swirly Spells’ her has her very own little crush.” Butch teased, laughing at the filly with no restraint his friends following suit.

“Sh-Shut up, B-Butch you Beak brain!” Starry yelled, her embarrassment getting the better of her as she insulted the larger boy.

“What did you just call me?” Butch asked the group’s laughter from before dying after hearing the insult towards him.

Starry let out a small ‘eep’, realizing what she just called the griffon in front of her.

“I-I’m sor-.“ Starry tried to apologize, but was slapped violently to the side falling to the hard dirt path below.

“Sorry, isn’t going to save you horn head.” Butch said darkly, cracking his talons for more intimidation.

As Butch lifted his arm to enact more damage on Starry, she flinched clenching her teeth as she prepared for the blow.

However, it never came; instead she heard a loud +SMACK+ and the sound of something hitting the dirt next to her.

“Huh, so what now the FREAK wants to be a hero?” Butch said, as Starry opened her eyes to see that Daniel had taken the blow for her and was now on the floor, his face bleeding from a not so small cut on his cheek.

*H-He protected me?* Starry thought as she moved closer to him, a worried look on her muzzle.

However before she could, two of the other male griffins pinned the young filly down, her muzzle being pushed into the dirt.

“Oh, no if you’re little “Friend” here wants to play hero, let’s see how he can protect you from me.”

She heard Butch say, as she saw him move closer to Daniel a devious smile on his beak.

“Don’t hurt him!” Starry yelled, fighting desperately to break away from the two bigger and stronger griffons.

Butch didn’t listen, this was shown as he pick Daniel off the ground and began to hit him over and over, giving Daniel more bruises and cuts on his face.

“STOP BUTCH, PLEASE!” Starry screamed her crying intensifying for her friend.

Starry could only watch, as tears of fear and worry for her friend streamed down from her eyes to the dirt path below.

It felt like an eternity before Butch finally stopped, leaving Daniel on the floor his breathing shallow and facing away from Starry.

Starry had long since stopped resisting, as Butch pulled her up by her hair ready to finish what he originally started with her.

“This is what happens Swirly, when you insult someone bigger, and stronger than you will ever be.” Butch stated, his breathing slightly ragged as he lifted his talon once again to start another beat down.

Before that could happen however, Butch felt something push him with the strength of a battering ram as he let go of Starry’s mane letting her drop to the ground, he following soon after.

As Butch slowly got back up, he looked around angrily searching for his next punching bag. Instead, he found Daniel standing in front of him, his arms out as he looked down.

“What the hell?” Butch looked with a furrowed brow, moving towards Daniel getting in his face.

“So, still have some fight left in you FREAK?” Butch asked angrily, a slight growl in his voice.

“L-Leave….My…..Friend…ALONE!” Daniel yelled, pushing the griffon again, this time farther and with much more force.

The sky became darker, as dark clouds mysteriously formed above them as Butch once again got up flinching at the unexpected pain in his chest from where Daniel had pushed him.

“DAMN YOU, FREAK OF NATURE!” Butch yelled furiously, as he spread his wings flying towards him with all the force he could muster.

Before the attack could land however, a powerful force field appeared around Daniel, causing the griffon to essentially hit the magical field hard and landing on the floor.

There was a bolt of lightning, and for the first time they noticed a larger than average ponies shadow moving towards them.

Starry as well as the other three griffins’ looked in awe at the sight before them, the former shying away from the mare approaching.

At first, the figure just kept moving closer, however when another bolt of lightning struck, the mares wings unfurled and her eyes turned pure white with rage.

It was then that the group of griffin’s felt fear unlike anything they’ve felt in there short lives, as Luna the princess of the night and stars moved inside the magical force field around Daniel gently lifting his head and looking down at him with a look of sorrow, and pain.

“Who did this?” She asked in a normal tone, one that sent shivers down the spines of all the griffins.

When no one answered, the lunar princess with her magic, gently lifted her son onto her back, and turned to the group of griffins once again putting more emphasis into her earlier question.

“WHO DID THIS, to MY SON!?!” She yelled, the griffins around her holding their breaths Butch being the one more terrified than anything.

Pointing a hoof in Butch’s general direction, Starry said nothing choosing instead to just cry, regretting that as Daniel’s friend she couldn’t protect him.

Luna looked to Starry nodding in understanding, using her magic to levitate her onto her back as well, next to Daniel where she only continued to cry gently nuzzling Daniel and his bruised up face.

Butch was filled with dread his expression, clear that he was afraid that the princess would hurt him, or worse.

“You…” Luna stated darkly, the storm clouds above dispersing as she slowly approached the young griffin.

Butch stumbled backwards, tripping over fear, and landing on his rump looking up at the monarch frightfully.

“I-I’m sorry, I-I didn’t know he was your son please forgive me!” begged Butch, fear evident in his voice as he bowed to the princess of the night to emphasize his point.

Luna lowered her head towards the young griffins face, giving him a stern look.

“Come anywhere near my son again, and I’ll make sure you never see the light of day again. Do I make myself clear?”

Luna sat at the foot of her bed, looking down towards the two young children currently laying there one with her hooves wrapped gently, but firmly around the others arm. The other, being bandaged and with more than a few bruises covering his face, and upper body from the injuries he sustained. The sight alone was enough to break the monarch’s heart; as yet another set of tears began to fall from her muzzle.

*How could I have let this happen, I should’ve sent a small group of guards with him.* Luna thought, mentally whipping herself for what had happened to her son.

After she had dealt with the young griffin by informing his parents of what he had done, she took her Starry and her son back to the castle to receive treatment for their injuries. It took about an hour before Starry could speak clearly, but when she could Luna asked the young filly what had happened to cause the whole thing. To be honest, Luna was rather upset at Starry, but calmed herself knowing that she was only a child and had no experience in dealing with petty squabbles.

Ivory had later come rushing into the room, worried about what had happened to her daughter, but after a quick explanation from the filly herself she immediately turned to apologize for what had happened, scolding her daughter for being so irresponsible. Starry however, stayed next to the young prince holding his hand the entire time, doing her best to help Luna tend to him best she could. Ivory had attempted to take Starry back home, but in the end, Luna offered to watch over them for the night, assuming that no matter how much Ivory tried her daughter wouldn’t budge.

*She cares for him deeply, I’m glad he’s found at least one friend. There aren’t many in this world who would do what this little filly is doing now.* Luna thought, a small smile playing on her face as she looked upon the sweet scene displayed before her.

“M-Momma, are you okay?”

Luna was snapped out of her thoughts, seeing Daniel opening his eyes the tired expression on his face turning to one of worry as he asked his question.

“Hello, my little one, yes everything I’m doing just fine…how about you, are you in any pain?” Luna asked, nuzzling Daniel’s cheek gently doing her best not to hurt her son further.

Daniel’s expression turned sour, as he looked down towards Starry who was only holding onto his arm tighter.

“I-Is Starry okay, that mean griffin hit her, and gave her a scratch.” Daniel asked, with all the worry a young child of his age could feel for another.

Luna nuzzled Daniel, assuring him that everything was fine, and that they were both safe in their bedroom.

“Starry really cares for you, she wouldn’t leave your side, and helped the nurses patch you up.” Luna stated smiling, causing Daniel to blush slightly from the information.

“S-She’s my friend, like the ones you told me about, right mommy?” Daniel asked, looking at his mother with a hopeful expression.

“Yes, she is exactly the kind of friend I want my adorable son to have.” Luna stated, nuzzling the now beet red prince as he looked down embarrassed.

“You were right, some of my classmates were looking at me funny, and then Butch showed up and he…hurt her.” Daniel told his mother, looking down sad that he couldn’t protect his friend.

“Daniel, don’t feel down, most just need the time to know you, and how amazing you are.” Luna stated, now laying down to join the two resting children wrapping her wings around them in a loving embrace.

“D-Do you really think so, a-am I really that amazing?” Daniel asked his mother, his hope beginning to rise in his chest from his mother’s words.

“Of course, you are!”

Both Daniel, and Luna looked surprised at Starry who had a determined look in her still tear swollen eyes looking at Daniel specifically.

“You are amazing, your kind to somepony you only just met, and were willing to protect me. You are amazing, in every sense of the word, and I’m more than glad to have you as my friend.” Starry stated, a small blush playing across her muzzle at her confession.

Daniel was shocked, a much larger blush on his face, as his mother looked at the two young children with a knowing smile on her muzzle as she turned to her son.

“Daniel, this choice is yours, do you want to continue going to school?” Luna asked, worry in her chest as she silently hoped he would say no.

Starry looked at Daniel, hope in her eyes as Daniel stared back his earlier blush diminishing into a light pink hue on his face.

“I-I do, I w-want to go to school again momma.” Daniel said, slight fear in his voice as he wasn’t entirely sure why he agreed to it until he stared into Starry’s eyes, her alluring golden eyes that seem to entrance him every time he gazed at them.

“A-Are you certain, even after what happened today?” Luna asked, voicing the same concerns as Starry when it came to the safety of the one they cared deeply for.

Daniel nodded, a more confident expression on his face from being near Starry.

“Yes momma, while it didn’t end well I learned a lot from my teacher, she was nice and if I didn’t understand Starry would always help me, so I’ll stay so I can stay with Starry.” Daniel stated, causing Starry to blush intensely, and his mother to giggle slightly at his oblivious statement.

“Very well my little one, but I will have you under guard protection to, and from school I will NOT have this happen again especially so far away from the castle where I can’t keep my eye on you.” Luna stated in a protective tone, gently nuzzling Daniel’s head lovingly with tears of a worried mother in her eyes.

Daniel simply hugged his mother, smiling as tears also fell from his cheeks.

Starry was shuffling her hooves a bit, causing both the young prince and his mother to look at her in confusion for a moment, before Luna gave a knowing smile, soon gesturing to the filly to join in the embrace which she quickly, and happily did nuzzling into both Daniel’s and Luna’s chest.

Unbeknownst to the young children she was holding, the lunar princess was squealing like a little filly on Hearts Warming Day, at the adorable connection between her son and the young filly.

*I’ll have to teach him on how to treat a lady properly, after all what kind of a mother would I be without encouraging my sweet boy to make bonds with his friends.* Luna thought excitedly, as both children soon fell asleep in her arms leaving what was a difficult day, on a sweet note.

It’s been about two weeks since the young prince’s arrival, the news spreading town-wide about the adoption of the Lunar Prince. During that time many creatures came to the castle simply to give their respects to their young prince although, said prince was mainly hiding behind his mother as they did so. Today however, as he and is best friend walk their usual path to the castle Daniel was very nervous about something, making it hard for him to concentrate on anything at all.

“Daniel?” Starry asked, gently nuzzling Daniel with her muzzle.

“Huh, oh sorry Starry I'm just nervous about going home today…” Daniel responded, smiling slightly at her.

Starry and Daniel have become the best of friends since Daniel first met her, they have been as inseparable as any two could ever be, however they were always given strange smiles whenever they were near either of their parents which gave the children confusion.

“Why, is there something wrong?” Starry asked worriedly, stopping to grab Daniels hand pulling him aside to talk, moving slowly towards a nearby tree to sit.

Daniel sighed, turning to face Starry. "Well...m-my momma told me that ponies from all over have been telling others in far away lands about me, and now...momma says that some friends of hers are coming to meet me.”

“What kind of friends?” Starry asked.

“Well mommy said something about, the C-C-council of-”

“EEEEEEEEEEEEEE, YOUR GOING TO MEET THE COUNCIL OF ROYALS!?!” Starry interrupted, her excitement outweighing her worry.

This caused all those around the young children to look in shock, causing Daniel to hide his face moving quickly towards the castle again.

“Hey, wait for me!” Starry shouted, as she rushed to catch up with her friend.

For the past 5 minutes Starry continued to ask questions energetically, making the young boy look away as she was too excited to realize she was bothering him.

“S-Starry, please…” Daniel begged, his voice barely louder than a whisper.

“I don’t understand how you can’t be excited, i mean it's THE council of the royals how are you not excited!?”

Daniel sighed, looking at his friend nervously. Although he only knew Starry for a short time he knew that she was the type that when excited that she wouldn’t stop asking question regardless of the feelings of the pony she was asking, so reluctantly he answered doing his best to answer he clearly.

“I-I’m not sure, I guess I’m not used to all of this “a-attention?” stuff yet. T-To be honest I-I’m still only getting used to the ponies in the castle, and even then…” Daniel looked, down holding his legs to his chest as he fidgeted to get more comfortable in his seated position under the tree.

Starry looked at her friend, only just realizing the state he was in. She gently placed a hoof on his hand her cheeks turning a light pink.

“W-Well would i-it help if I went with you…?” Starry asked, looking away so as to hide her face from the young prince.

Daniel face began to heat up at the contact, as his dark brown eyes looked into Starry's golden ones.

“Umm... well I-”

“Prince Daniel, are you alright?” interrupted a sudden scruffy voice, causing both to straighten up blushing profusely as the sound of hooves approaching them grew louder.

“Your mother sent me to fetch you after she realized you were late in coming home, she was worried something must’ve happened.” The guard explained in a scolding tone, reluctantly bowing to his charge out of habit as he stopped in front of them. The stallion was scrawny, and rather intimidating to the young pair, however ever since the first day of school his mother had placed this pony, one of the lunar guards in charge of him, due to Vinyl having too many duties on her plate to do it herself.

“I-It’s alright Atlas, i-i was just talking with m-my friend for a bit, and didn’t r-realize it was getting late. I-I’m sorry…” Daniel stated nervously, now looking down sad that he had let this much time pass.

The guard rolled his eyes, lifting his head as he begins to move away. “That’s fine, but you shouldn’t keep your mother waiting.”

Starry’s eye twitched, for whatever reason she felt how disrespectful this guard was being to him and it absolutely infuriated her as Daniel stood up keeping his head down as he followed the guard.

“Wait!” Starry exclaimed, wrapping a forehoof around the young prince’s arm causing his face to turn a bright red.

“Prince Daniel, invited me to join him to the castle for a...playdate.” Starry quickly thought up, as she trotted beside Daniel.

The guard looked at Daniel questionably, as he arched his eyebrow in curiosity.

“Is this true, your highness?” He asked, a hint of annoyance in his voice.

Daniel could only nod in response, as Starry pulled him along behind his guard as he huffed, and began to trot towards the castle.

“Oh thank the maker, are you alright Daniel did anything happen?” Luna asked, hugging her son at the entryway of their bedroom, as she examined the young prince for any injuries.

“I’m okay momma i-i was just talking with S-Starry about the council.” Daniel replied, as his mother lifted his arm to thoroughly check him.

“Your highness I hate to interrupt, however there are more pressing matters we must deal with.” Atlas rudely interrupted.

Luna looked toward Atlas, her eyes squinted as a dark cloud loomed over them as she spoke.

“Wasn’t it I who order you to bring my son to me an hour ago?” Luna asked, letting go of Daniel as she moved to speak with Axel.

The guard immediately lowered his head, sweat attempting to make Itself shown on his coat as he spoke.

“Y-Yes well, I-”

“He was performing a task for me dear sister, don’t reprimand the poor colt.” Celestia interrupted, as she entered the room.

Luna’s eye twitched, as she quickly turned toward her sister nudging both Daniel, and Starry behind her with her wings.

“Need I remind you, that you have no business ordering guards that are under my faction.” Luna stated firmly, her eyes narrowing.

“That only applies on any ordinary day, however we both know today isn’t one of those days, I needed assistance, and Atlas here was the only guard nearby.” Celestia countered simply, causing Luna’s eye to twitch once again.

“I suppose as long as my son is safe it’s all that matters, but please do refrain from influencing guards under my court.” Luna stated, doing her best to restrain herself as she turned and began to dress Daniel, completely forgetting the young filly present in the room.

Starry’s muzzle turned a bright red, as Daniel was being changed right in front of her.

While Daniel, and Starry both knew he could change on his own they knew better to say anything, Starry sensing the tension between the two royal monarchs, and Daniel being too nervous around his aunt to speak.

“Well if you would please excuse us, we must finish getting ready.” Luna stated, not looking her sister in the eye.

“Atlas, would you be so kind as to retrieve Commander Vinyl Scratch, so that she may escort my son, and his friend to the royal dining hall?” Luna turned to the guard, suddenly covering her sons half-changed form from the already blushing filly.

Atlas didn’t say a word, he simply saluted with an annoyed expression as he, and Celestia left the room.

The room fell silent once this happened, as Luna used her magic, to quickly dress Daniel In his new regalia.

The attire was made of a thin cloth fabric which was totally transparent along multiple area over his body, however was covered mainly in a dark metal that looked as if they had cross-stitched it onto his clothing. The pants with the same design in mind except, it was provided with shin-guards embedded into them. Finally, a crown embedded with Luna’s royal crest and the same color as the rest of his clothing.

Starry was beginning to blush at the sight of her friends formal regalia, however Daniel felt uncomfortable as the metal only served to remind him of his time before his mother found him.

“Test subject Delta still shows signs of experiencing pain despite feeling it on regular basis.” A dark figure resembling a pony stated, as the young child screamed in pain.

“Continue the experiment.” Stated a different figure one that looked much scarier than the first.

“Yes, my Great Ruler.” stated the previous figure reaching over to another sharp object, causing the young boy to struggle in fear screaming in protest.

“We MUST find out what this abomination can really do.”

Just then another stabbing pain jolted through his body, making him scream in agony as tears flowed from his eyes.

“D-Do I have to w-wear this momma?” Daniel asked, slightly afraid to move in his new clothes.

“Yes, I’m so sorry If you feel uncomfortable, but as much as I trust the council's judgement i will not let them see you as anything less than how I see you, my little prince.” Luna stated, nuzzling Daniel gently as Starry moved closer to him.

“Hey, don’t be nervous everything will turn out okay.” Starry softly encouraged, holding Daniel’s shaky hand soothingly.

Daniel began to calm himself looking down, nervousness still clear on his face.

“Don’t fret son, I’ll be right next to you the whole time.” Luna reassured.

“So will I!” Starry agreed.

“Don’t forget about me kiddo!”

“Vinyl!” Daniel exclaimed, rushing over to his favorite mentor.

“Hey Daniel, how was school?” Vinyl asked, ruffling his hair gently.

“I couldn’t focus, I was so nervous about meeting the council, so i read a book my teacher had about them.” Daniel immediately responded.

Luna looked at both of them, cursing herself mentally for not asking her son about his day. Daniel was so vocal with Vinyl, and so much more expressive, although not by much. The past two weeks Luna had been dealing with the populace of the castle and nearby villagers so much so that she hasn't had much time to spend with her son, on some occasions she would return to their room with him cuddling one of the pillows she lays on, while laying on the floor tear stains evidence of his lonely nights.

As far as she could tell, the only ponies he’s been able to communicate with are his friend Starry, and of course Vinyl who had become more a mentor to him than anyone.

Luna sighed, trying her best to smile as she moved to place a hoof behind Daniel’s shoulder, catching his attention.

“Vinyl, please show Ms. Swirls to the next room I’ve had my royal tailors fashion a dress for her to join us.” Luna stated.

Both Daniel and Starry looked at Luna, surprise in their eyes as Vinyl simply nodded in confirmation.

“H-How did you know, I mean I haven’t even asked yet?” Starry questioned, shyly lowering her head to the princess.

“Nonsense, your my son’s friend why wouldn’t I have planned for you to join us on the day of my son’s official appearance.” Luna said matter of factly, as if it wasn’t even a question.

“Now come on Ms. Swirls, we don’t have much time to prepare you.” Vinyl stated, waving a hoof for the young filly to hurry.

“O-Oh okay, I-I’ll see you later Daniel!” She exclaimed, as she moved to the door alongside Vinyl.

“Y-Yeah” Daniel acknowledged.

With that, the room was filled with a silent tension building between mother and her child as Daniel fidgeted nervously.

“Daniel, I-I was hoping that maybe after all of this is over that y-you and I could go on a trip somewhere, w-would that be alright?” Luna asked, feeling more nervous than she’s ever felt in her life.

“W-Where would we going mommy?” Daniel asked, not declining the offer.

“Well, there’s this lovely place to the far south where the stars shine more brightly than anywhere else in equestria, I don’t exactly recall the name of the Kingdom, but it’s quite lovely.” Luna answered, noticing that Daniel’s eyes were sparkling in astonishment at the thought of stars shining that brightly.

“S-So what do you think, I've only been there once myself bu-”

“YES!” Daniel exclaimed, jumping up and down excitedly unable to contain his excitement for the journey ahead.

“Easy now, we still have to get through this meeting before we can do anything.” Luna said, chuckling under her breath at her son’s actions.

However, it fell on deaf ears as he continued jumping excitedly, until he accidently tripped over one of the books Daniel and his mother had been reading, falling violently into the nearby vanity cracking the mirror slightly.

“Daniel!” Luna exclaimed, worriedly rushing to check her son for any injury.

However, Daniel immediately stood up perfectly fine, the armor he was wearing providing protection from the majority of the fall.

“C’mon mommy, we have to hurry and get to the meeting so we can finish it fast!” Daniel stated, pulling his mother by her front right hoof.

“W-Wait Daniel are you alr-”

With a loud slam the two were gone from their room quickly turning the gas lanterns off, and the now broken mirror shining slightly in the relatively dark room.

Daniel couldn’t believe his eyes, the room where his mother, best friend, most of the castle staff, and himself ate was transformed. All the dining tables that were originally there were nowhere to be seen, instead in its place stood the longest table the young prince had ever seen.

This table looked made from the most pristine material, shining like the sun under the right lighting from the outside, and in the center was engraved the cutie marks of his mother and aunt.

However, the table wasn't the only thing that caught the prince’s eye, as he walked beside his mother and Starry. Sitting at the luxurious table, were all kinds of species from scaly dragon, to hairy buffalo. Each species at the table was different in every way, but they all had one thing in common. They were ALL royals.

“Lulu!” Exclaimed a pony that Daniel noticed had both wings, and a horn just like his mother only she was more pastel pink in color.

“Ah, Lovestruck how do things fair at the Crystal Empire? I trust nothing has been troubling you?” Luna asked, looking at her with a kind smile.

“Oh, a few occurrences here and there, but nothing my guards cant handle my dear cousin Lulu.” Lovestruck stated, waving her hoof passively as she smiled in return giving Luna a small hug.

Daniel looked between them confused, as he asked. “Momma, who is she?”

The mare in question looked down, finally acknowledging his presence only to look at Luna in surprise.

“Momma? Lulu you never told me you were with child in any of the letters you’ve sent, I wasn’t even aware you were seeing somepony.”

“I-It’s nothing like that, my guards and I found him in the Badlands in one of the enemy's strongholds.” Luna explained, waving a hoof dismissively.

“Oh my, what use could they possibly have for a colt as young as him?” Lovestruck asked, looking the small boy over noticing the many faint scars on his body.

“THEY used him for experiments, and seeing from the scars the doctor’s theorized that he was there since early infancy…when we found him, he was strapped to an operating table being deprived of both food and water.” She stated, her voice taking a dark turn as she thought about those who hurt her son.

“Oh you poor boy, those monsters have gone TOO far hurting a boy as young as this because he was different, it’s absolutely unethical!” Lovestruck stated, stomping her hoof in anger.

Daniel was startled by this, and chose to hide behind his mother’s forelegs, again catching the attention of both Alicorns.

“Apologies, Daniel’s not entirely trusting to new ponies.” Luna explained.

“Ah of course, with an experience such as his I would probably be the same in that position.” She said gently, moving towards the frightened child.

“Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Lovestruck I’m your mommy’s cousin, but you can call me Auntie Struck.” She gently told him, causing Daniel to slowly poke his head out a tiny bit.

“S-So you’re apart of my family?” He asked quietly.

Lovestruck only had to nod as Daniel slowly came out from his hiding place, rubbing his shoulder nervously as he looked up at her.

“I-I’m sorry, it’s nice to meet you Auntie Struck, my name is Daniel Moon.” He shyly stated.

Lovestruck could no longer contain herself, as she scooped the young prince up in her hooves. “Aww, he’s just too much Lulu, how can you not wanna dote on him all the time?” She asked, stars in her eyes.

“I-I’m one of the princesses of Equestria, I-I have an image to maintain thank you very much.” She stated, as Lovestruck rolled her eyes knowingly.

“Come now Lulu, I know that’s a lie your muzzle is turning bright red, and considering your coat color is very impressive.” Lovestruck pointed out bluntly, causing Luna to hide her muzzle with a wing.

“AHEM!”

A loud thunderous voice interrupted, catching the attention of the doting princess’s.

“I understand both of you now have children, but that does not mean the issue at hand is resolved.” Stated the booming voice, which Daniel soon discovered came from a very old looking griffon.

He had multiple scars on his body, and was missing one of his claws, however despite all these things Daniel noticed one above all else. The griffons he’s seen all seem to have a basic color scheme with brown and white being the main ones, however when it came to the eyes Daniel saw that each griffons was different and when he saw this old griffons eyes he became distraught as he noticed one particular thing about this griffon’s eyes.

“Momma, how can he see us?”

Luna looked down, seeing her son gently pulling on her forehoof, pointing directly at the griffon in question causing everyone besides her to groan.

“Ugh, sweetie you really don’t wanna get him started on that story again.” Lovestruck stated bluntly once again.

“Silence all of you, let the boy be curious if he wants there is no harm in it!” The griffon called angrily.

Daniel was startled by the pure volume of the griffons voice, quickly moving back down from his Aunts hold to return to hide behind his mother once again.

“Daniel, don’t be so scared they just want to get to know you better.” Starry whispered, only just now getting over the fact she was surrounded by royalty.

“B-But, he looks and sounds so mean…” Daniel whispered back.

“Young man, I may be blind but my ears still work perfectly, now if you don’t mind come here and introduce yourself to me as a proper gentle-colt!” The griffon belted out, causing the two children to wince as they had been found out.

“Daniel, it’ll be fine i’ve known Emperor Guilded Heart for a very long time, and he has been nothing short of kind to children like you and Starry.” Luna stated, gently nuzzling her son as she pushed out from underneath her.

Starry and Daniel both looked at each other, and without a word Starry reached for Daniel’s hand holding it tightly in her grip as she gave him a reassuring smile.

“I’ll be here with you the whole time, so let’s go together.” She whispered, causing Daniel to blush slightly a small smile spreading on his face.

“O-Okay, I’ll go…” Daniel stated, as he began to move slowly towards the table where the mighty Guilded Heart sat.

“Everything will be fine my little one, just remember your afternoon classes with Starry’s mother and you should be fine.” Luna stated gently.

Daniel nodded, trusting his mother and having his friend with him he slowly moved toward the griffon trying his best to swallow the lump in his throat.

Luna stayed back, while she wanted desperately to be as close to her son as possible she knew that learning proper socialization would definitely be best for her son in the long run. Even so, she couldn’t help but fidget slightly out of nervousness.

Daniel stood in front of Emperor Guilded Heart, shaking slightly under his gaze.

“H-Hello E-Emperor, my n-name is D-Daniel it’s very n-nice to meet you.” Daniel stated, bowing in the presence of the mighty griffon.

“Good day youngling, I am Emperor Guilded Heart leader and commander of the griffon kingdom, and it is an honor to meet you as well.” Guilded Heart returned, as he turned to the young mare beside him expectantly.

“O-Oh, I-I have no title but my name is S-Starry Swirls Emperor Guilded Heart, It’s an honor to meet you and all the royals from across our great lands.” Starry stated, bowing so low her muzzle touched the floor.

“Worry not young maiden, it matters not whether you have a rank or not, in this room we are all equals.” Guilded heart stated wisely, the majority of those seated including Luna and Lovestruck nodded in agreement.

“Bah, you don’t speak for the dragons you old fool!”

All attention was moved to a single group of dragons, one of which was standing proudly looking angrily at the trio speaking.

“Pardon me Dragon lord Baddrydag, but I would appreciate it if you would respect my son and his friend as they are in a conversation, as I had taught him to respect any conversations YOU may have.” Luna requested, doing her best not to let her anger show through.

“Ha, says the pony who just a few moments ago was doting over said FREAK of nature!” Baddrydag mocked, a triumphant smirk on his scaly muzzle.

This brought Daniel to look down feeling as if he had been brought back down from whatever confidence he had gained in these few moment, Starry to gently console him, and Luna to begin to grow more in anger from hearing yet another creature call HER son a FREAK.

“THAT IS ENOUGH BADDRYDAG!”

Yet again the attention to another creature, one that Daniel had never seen until today. One that had the basic structure of a pony, but was dark colored and had stripes all over their bodies. However, every creature in the room gave a small gasp, or had a look of surprise on their faces, this silence gave the creature more room to speak.

“Honestly, you have no right to judge who or what anyone in this council chooses to adopt. Unless of course, you wish to let your loose tongue start something that you or your kingdom cannot hope to survive?” The creature asked.

“What, this puny Alicorn princess? What can she possibly hope to do against the whole of the Dragon Kingdom?” Baddrydag stated cockily, his pride still clear on his face.

“No, you won’t be facing an Alicorn, or a Princess of Equestria, YOU will be faced with an infuriated mother protecting her child at ALL costs.” The creature stated, gesturing to the mare in question who’s star-filled mane was violently moving in the non-existent wind.

Immediately, the drakes pride dissipated into a nervous grin as a slight sweat began to drip from his scaly face, as he gulped loudly. Meanwhile, every creature in the room looked at the scared dragon expectantly the tension becoming more and more strenuous on the Dragon Lord. This caused the dragon to cave, sighing as he rose from his seat and silently stomped his way towards to the small boy and his friend kneeling down to their level.

“L-Look kid, I’m no good with kids and I hate wasting time, so p-p-please forgive me f-for being a LITTLE impatient with you.” Baddrydag stated, clearly having trouble apologizing to the young boy.

All Daniel could do was nod in understanding, unable to look the dragon in the eye as he and a glaring Starry moved back to his mother. This cause the dragon to roll his eyes, but he didn't pursue any further as he went back to his seat, every creature knowing that this was the best they were going to get.

“Well then if that’s been resolved, I suggest we go back to the original topic we all came for.” Celestia stated, having been in her seat the whole time.

All excluding Luna and Lovestruck nodded, taking a few moments to adjust themselves for what they all assumed would be a long discussion.

“Daniel, Starry I would like you both to stay near Vinyl while we talk, you can sit and play amongst yourselves for the time being.” Luna told the young children, gently nuzzling her still bothered son.

“Don’t worry princess, I promise to always be right next to him.” Starry quietly stated, as she sat next to Daniel still holding his hand.

Daniel only nodded, causing Luna’s mood to turn sour as she looked to Vinyl.

“Commander Scratch, please look after and protect them with your life.” Luna stated.

Vinyl simply saluted, giving Luna a discret smile and wink.

Luna gave a small smile in return, as she moved to her seat next to her sister composing herself as she did so.

“Now, let us begin.”

It’s been about an hour since they had begun their meeting, and Daniel was beginning to feel better with the help of both his best friend, and teacher.

“You know, despite that mean old dragon I think all the royals here are pretty nice, don’t you think?” Starry asked, having finally let go of Daniel’s hand due to his hand and her hoof becoming sweaty.

Daniel simply nodded, nervously twiddling his fingers as he held his knees to his chest in a hug.

Starry sighed, while Daniel was getting better he was still very tense and nervous around all the royals around them. However, both were surprised when a soft white hoof ruffled Daniel’s silver locks, causing them both to look up at her smiling muzzle.

“Hey kiddo cheer up, no creature is gonna take you away while me and your mother are around.” She stated quietly, giving them her signature grin and wink.

For the first time since arriving, Daniel gave a small chuckle as he became comforted by that fact.

Suddenly, the large door behind them opened as quietly as it could, barely catching the attention of a few of the seated royals.

“...Atlas…” Vinyl grimaced, rolling her eyes in annoyance as the colt stood beside her.

“Sorry, got caught up in something, what did I miss?” Atlas semi-whispered, earning him a quick shush from other guards around them.

“You, missed everything I don’t even know why you bothered to show up at this point.” Vinyl scolded, doing her best to keep as quiet as possible.

Atlas rolled his eyes, looking down at the young prince in front of them with disgust, yet there was a small smirk on his face that if any creature saw would assume that he had awful planned.

“Luna, despite the frailty we’ve all clearly seen from the child the fact still remains that we have no idea what the enemy did to him, that fact alone makes him a threat no matter how small.” Stated Guilded Heart.

“However, there is still no proof that my son poses ANY threat to any creature, he can barely dress himself now, and that is with some of my assistance.” Luna stated, stomping her hoof in protest.

“We understand your concerns, however Luna does present a good point Daniel has yet to pose any threat to any creature, and even if he wished to I seriously doubt he would even possess the power to do so from what I’ve been reported from the guards both me and Luna posted on him.” Celestia interjected, causing Luna to do a double-take at what she had heard.

“You placed guards to SPY on my son?” Luna asked, looking at her sister betrayal in her eyes.

“I had precautions made, to make sure that every creature behind our walls are protected and safe, from know and UNKNOWN threats, but as I said he poses no threat.” Celestia explained.

“That doesn't make this better Tia…we will discuss this in length later.” Luna whispered, as she composed herself.

“Now, concerning this la-”

“MOMMA!”

Every creature stood at the sound of this call, however Luna was the only one with the look of horror on her muzzle as she stood hurrying to the front of the room to find her son held tightly by the very colt that was to watch over him, holding a blade against her son’s throat. Luna searched frantically for Vinyl, only to find the mare lying on the floor injured with an unconscious Starry Swirls in her hooves.

“Sargent Atlas, what is the meaning of this!” Luna called angrily, flaring her wings in preparation to pounce.

“Ah Ah Ah, I wouldn’t if i were you dear LUNA unless you want my hoof to slip and cut your poor FREAK child’s head off!” Atlas announced, causing all in the room to glare in anger as Luna lowered her wings in fear of what he might do.

“There we go, and the same goes for any creatures that wanna save this pathetic excuse for a prince! However, if any of you do have any ideas…”

Suddenly, Atlas quickly moved dragging Daniel by the neck, as he stabbed the nearest guard right in the shoulder. Every creature in the room gasped as he did this, but their faces turned to that of horror as they saw what was happening to his victim.

The guard before them seemed fine at first glance, however as the blade began to glow the young colt began to scream in pain as he slowly, began to get older... he continued to age more and more, until he fell down to the floor looking as old as a corpse.

“By the maker...Is that?”

“Yes, this your majesties is the Dagger of Life-Drain. One of the legendary weapons that was given to the princess’s as a gift of good faith from the Saddle Arabians 200 years ago, till today it’s been sitting the royal vaults collecting dust.” Atlas explained, as he placed the knife against the terrified prince’s throat.

The entire room was silenced, every creature unable to move out of both fear and worry for the child in his clutches.

“P-Please Atlas, let me go…” Daniel begged, shaking violently.

“Why should I, no creature in here is gonna save you, Tartarus your own so called MOTHER can't even do anything to save you.” Atlas laughed, mocking the Princess of the Night openly as her son looked to her hopefully.

“M-Mommy...p-please save me…” Daniel begged.

Luna never felt more useless than she did in that moment, the look her son gave her made her feel more pain in her heart than anything she had been through in all her years of life.

“I-I can-”

“Let Daniel go you MONSTER!”

“WHAT?!?” Atlas questioned, as suddenly he was suddenly pounced by a very determined Starry Swirls who took the opportunity to sneak up behind the cocky stallion.

Starry began to use her magic to pull at his mane and ears as hard as she could, while at the same time doing her best to avoid the blade as Atlas used it to scare her off of him.

“Gah, get off me you little-”

Before he could finish however, Starry ended up pulling so hard that she pulled a piece of his mane.

“GAH!”

In a swift motion he pulled Starry off with the hoof that held Daniel and threw her across the room causing her to hit the wall with enough force to knock her unconscious. All creatures big and small gasped, but none felt more at fault than Daniel as his whole world shattered at the sound of his best friend hitting the hard stone walls.

“...S-Starry…?”

“Ugh, serves that little brat right for attacking her betters!” Atlas said, reaching over to the distraught prince.

Only, this time as he went to grab Daniel he immediately retreated his hoof in pain as if it was being burned.

“Ah, w-what the buck!?!” Atlas asked.

“You...hurt...my friend…” Daniel stated, his words growing dark as a light began to envelope the small prince, and slowly get brighter.

“I-Is that...magic?” Lovestruck asked.

“Impossible, no magic is that clearly visible and on top of that he doesn’t even ha-”

Suddenly, the small boy moved quickly to his feet turning to punch the stallion behind him, however instead of the weak and meager punch every creature in the room expected, the stallion was instead blasted all the way to the other side of the room hitting the wall with a force that caused a small crater to form the blade he once had being left on the floor nearby as Atlas’s grip released.

No creature in the room, not even the young prince’s mother could move as his presence filled the room with a terrifying feeling as he moved towards the barely breathing stallion, grabbing the knife he had dropped along the way.

“You...hurt...Starry…and you don’t even CARE?!?” Daniel shouted, completely controlled by rage as he disappeared for a moment only to appear in front of the barely waking Atlas startling him greatly.

“N-No p-please, don’t hurt me I-I’m so sorry y-your highness! P-Please let me go!” Atlas begged, his tears and bloody nose staining the floor below him.

There was no sound for several seconds, and that brought a small hope to the pathetic stallion.

“Raise your head…”

Atlas did as he was told, thinking that his pathetic cries for mercy had worked, but when he did all hope in him shattered as he saw his eyes.

While Daniel’s eyes were always red in color, this time it wasn’t just his irises but his whole eye was consumed by bloodlust, his normally shiny silver hair had turned dark and almost lifeless as he stared down at the now wetting himself Atlas.

Daniel didn’t have to say a single word for Atlas to know that his life had become forfeit, his shaking becoming more prominent as Daniel swiftly swung the blade in his hand towards Atlas. There was no blood as Daniel left the blade inserted into the stallions chest, as what happened to the guard from earlier happened to him as the young prince slowly made his way to his friend, as if he was in immense pain.

“S-Starry…?” Daniel stated, as he kneeled down in front of his still unconscious friend.

“Please...be...okay….” Daniel begged, as he passed out returning to his original form.

Just then, every royal including Luna let out a breath they had no idea they were holding, as Luna quickly moved to her son looking him and Starry over.

“2nd Commander Steel, take my Vinyl, Starry and my son to the infirmary, let NO ONE stop you!” Luna ordered, as Commander Steel saluted and used his magic to gently carry the children with Vinyl on his back.

“Yes your highness!” He stated, as he ran out of the room.

While Luna would’ve wanted nothing more than to be the one to take them, however from the way the council was looking at her...there was still ONE more thing to discuss about her son, and maker help her that it's good.

“...Daniel…”

“...Daniel”

“Daniel.”

Daniel awoke, getting up slowly as his head began to throb with pain as he looked around the room he and his friend were currently in. It was a rather large medical room, and Daniel couldn’t help but feel afraid from all the medical supplies that were in the room...not to mention the very sharp objects that he couldn’t seem to get away from.

Suddenly, he felt a soft bump against his body distracting him from his raging headache causing him to look down. What he found was a distraught Starry Swirls, tears flowing from her puffy eyes as she held tightly onto his torso.

“Daniel!” Starry began to gently nuzzle her friend, tears staining her white coat as she held her friend close. Daniel had been unconscious for the better part of 4 HOURS, and Starry had stayed with him despite her mother and many nurses asking her to rest after the whole ordeal.

“S-Starry, wait what happened, w-where’s my mom, and why are you crying?” Daniel asked, confused and a bit flustered.

“Y-You don’t r-remember?” Starry asked, a worried look on her face.

“Remember what?” Daniel questioned.

“When Atla-”

“Starry Swirls, please I understand you care for him but allow Daniel a moment to rest from his ordeal.” Vinyl demanded, interrupting the young filly’s explanation.

Daniel was looking between them in confusion, seeing his friend looking down sadness in her eyes caused his head to hurt more.

“Daniel, are you okay kiddo?” Vinyl asked, gently holding the young prince’s shoulder with a hoof.

Daniel shook his head, his headache beginning to throb more from the sudden movement.

“Y-Yeah, I’m f-fine..” Daniel answered, as he got to his feet Vinyl and Starry both moving quickly to stop him.

“Easy, you were ju-”

“Ah, you’re awake dear nephew.” Celestia interrupted, as she entered the room.

“P-Princess Celestia?” Both Starry and Vinyl asked surprised, quickly bowing in her presence.

“Now, there’s no need for that I’m only here for my nephew, the council wants to speak with you regarding what will happen to him.” Celestia explained, gesturing for the young prince to follow her.

“I-I’m sorry Princess Celestia, but your sister gave me explicit instructions that I am to be at the young colt’s si-“

“My sister, no longer requires your services so please take Ms. Swirls to her mother, and do your best not to fail like you did earlier.” Celestia ordered, a slight annoyance in her voice as she again gestured for her nephew to follow her causing the guardian to become even more suspicious.

Vinyl was very insulted by the remark, but showed no sign of it as she stood in firmly in front of her charge. Her young charge was startled by this looking up at Vinyl in confusion as he saw her angry expression.

“Again, I understand your highness but I am his PERSONAL guard, and I was ordered to stay by his side no matter the situation.” Vinyl stated firmly, unyielding to the sun goddess before her as she did her best to sound as professional as possible.

“...Very well you may join us…” Celestia stated, an annoyed look across her muzzle.

Daniel looked up at Vinyl, unsure of why his guardian was so cautious around his aunt. The wave of tension caused the young prince to worry, looking between the two as Starry stood beside him a suspicious look adorning her face as well.

“Come on kiddos, time to go.” Vinyl stated, using her magic to lift the young prince and place him on her back as she quickly moved around the monarch and opened the nearby door allowing Celestia to exit first.

“Vinyl, what’s gonna happen?” Daniel asked, a worried and confused look on his face as he held onto his guardians coat gently..

“I’m sure everything will be fine kiddo, don’t you worry we’ll be with you no matter what happens.” Vinyl stated, giving him her signature smile.

Vinyl felt a small nudge on her side causing Daniel and her to look down to see Starry, looking up at the young prince with a encouraging smile as she rubbed away the last of her tears.

“I’ll be here for you too Daniel, and nothing will ever keep me from MY friend.” Starry stated, a confident and determined look in her eyes as her face began to glow with a small blush.

Daniel gave a small smile in return a large blush on his face hiding his face, not as confident as his guardian or his best friend. Vinyl was hesitant to follow the solar counterpart of her princess, but in order to ensure Daniel’s safety she had to go along with it...for now.

Gesturing to the small filly, she began to follow her as Starry walked beside them doing her best to keep up as they trotted down the corridor.

As they re-entered the council room there was something that gave chills to both children, Daniel looking down to his guardian with worry as Starry moved closer to them both.

“Daniel, my son how are you feeling?” Luna asked, moving quickly towards the trio and nuzzling her son gently in relief.

“I-I’m okay momma, but what happened?” Asked the young prince, earning a confused look from his mother.

“Y-You don’t remember what happened, my son?” Luna asked, concern rising in her chest as she looked him over for any serious injuries.

Daniel only shook his head shyly, not able to look his mother in the eye feeling as though he forgot something important.

“I see…”

“Luna, we must join the others to give our verdict.” Celestia told Luna, as she moved passed her towards the large table earning her an annoyed look from her younger sibling.

“Y-Yes sister, Vinyl please watch over my son till this is over.” Luna asked Vinyl, as she quickly moved to follow her older counterpart.

Vinyl simply bowed, cursing under her breath as she now knew that Celestia was attempting to get rid of her for some reason. She might not have known the reason why she wanted her out of the way, she knew she had to keep a VERY close eye on Daniel as she gently lowered her charge down to the floor with her magic.

“Vinyl...are you okay?” Daniel asked, pulling gently on his guardians armored leg as he looked at Vinyl with a nervous expression.

“Of course, don’t you worry about me kiddo…” Vinyl stated, gently holding his hand with her hoof fear secretly rising in her chest over what the council’s verdict would be.

Without warning, there was a sudden slam on the large pristine table drawing the attention of the startled trio. They saw all the royals standing tall looks of seriousness dawning their faces, even Luna who was just recently had a look of worry and relief on her muzzle now matched the mood of the room completely.

“Attention Prince Daniel Moon, today you stand before the Royal Council to be judged on weather or not you present a threat to this, or any of our fellow countries.” Celestia announced, looking down in the direction of the trio as if they were petty criminals.

Daniel moved forward, both of his most trusted friends just behind him as he made himself stand proud like his mother best he could. Being the center of attention was something Daniel didn’t enjoy, especially in this situation when the stare’s he was receiving felt almost like he was back on that cold room that his mother saved him from.

“After recent events, the council has agreed that you would be of great assistance to our forces and wish to welcome you with open arms.” Celestia then stated, doing her best to adapt to the company currently present in the room.

The two behind the prince shared a look of both happiness and relief, even Daniel managed to relax a bit still feeling his heart racing.

“However…the council also agrees, that with these current events that you could become a potential threat if you do not learn to control the unknown power inside you. So, as a precautionary measure you will be going with the King Akachi of the Zebrican tribe so that he can train you.” Celestia declared, as each and every creature stomped in agreement.

Daniel couldn’t believe his ears, everything around him seemed to fade away as he felt his world shatter before him. The young prince’s heart began to race with fear, and his pupils shrunk to the size of pinpricks as his breathing became short and erratic. At that very moment he felt as if he had returned to the lab he was saved from...

“OBJECTION!”

Everyone turned to see that both the young prince’s confidants were now in front of the boy, looks of disapproval upon their faces. Starry held onto Daniel with all she was worth, doing her best to look strong as she defended her best friend. While Vinyl stepped in front of them both, offering herself as the first line of defense for her young prince.

“No disrespect to the Zebra’s your highness, but how can creatures how have no experience in magic hope to teach him how to control his!” Vinyl protested, stomping her hoof definitely.

“Also, how long will he be exiled to their lands? Will he be promised protection?” Starry quickly asked, uncaring of her status among them.

“SILENCE, both of you!” Roared Dragon Lord Baddrydag, however neither yielded to the mighty dragons roar as Luna raised a hoof in protest causing the fiery dragon to stand down quickly as she moved towards them once again.

“Vinyl Scratch and Starry Swirls, I understand your concerns and at first shared them with you, but King Akachi volunteered to train him not only to control the power inside my son, but to also learn to control the emotions that initiated them in the first place.” Luna softly explained, mostly to her son rather than the two who seemed more nervous about it.

“B-But, Momma w-what about our trip?” Daniel asked, a sad expression on his face.

“...I’m sorry my little one, but we won’t be able to go anytime soon…” Luna stated, unable to look her son in the eyes as she bit her lip to keep her composure the best she could.

Daniel looked down, disappointed that he couldn’t see the brightest stars out there as he hugged his mother tightly.

“Luna you have to understand, it’s for his own good that he learns how to use his powers wisely if he is to help in the effort to end this long war.” Celestia stated, everyone in the room looking at her lunar counterpart with a mixture of pity and disappointment.

“Please, don’t do this he isn’t ready for the burden of war…h-he has already been through so much for his age...please...” Luna begged, looking out in desperation at the royals before her to see if any would take her side on the matter.

However, no royal yield results as each stood proud in their decision causing Luna to look down defeated. “W-Where, will he be sent…” she asked, looking at her sister with worry as her gaze moved around the table.

“Well, we were discussing it and Love Struck and I believe-”

“I will take him.” interrupted Akachi, earning surprised looks from all who sat at the table.

“No disrespect, but I highly doubt Zebra’s can even come close to being magic teachers.” Chuckled Baddrydag, crossing his arms and looking at the Zebracan King with a smug grin.

“None taken, however compared to all of you we are the best candidates to teach him how to fight in battle.” Akachi stated, as he stood from his seat.

This comment, while a bit bold wasn’t in fairness untrue the Zebrican army while small in numbers made up for it with brute strength and an unrivaled knowledge of martial arts making the Zebras formidable opponents for any who tried to challenge them. Not to mention their invaluable knowledge in potion making which rivals even the highest level unicorn healing spells, in truth Zebras were one of the most well rounded species alive.

“That may be, b-but why Daniel surely you have enough forces on your own?” Luna asked, only barely able to keep her composure.

“True, however this isn’t about the number of forces I possess this is about the fact that my people can teach him how to defend himself and others with a calm mind set. I trust you remember the way he was when the guard named Atlas hurt his friend?” Atlas questioned, looking to everyone for an answer as they all nodded their heads in confirmation.

“It was obvious to see that the only reason he was able to call upon such power, even though Luna made it clear he had no power to begin with was because he was infuriated that his friend had gotten hurt because of him. Our teachings help to learn how to fight with a clear mind no matter who is involved.” Atlas explained.

For a moment, Luna wanted to say ‘no’ and move on however the very fact that Akachi had spoken up about him in the first place shows that he was interested in him. For while the Equestrian relationships with most other species was based on power, their relationship with the Zebras was based on respect and mutual agreements. Moreover, despite knowing of the Zebras power and forces they had never once been personally invited to their kingdom for any of their negotiations.

“What kind of training will you provide…?” Luna asked, now beginning to see his thought process.

+Ahem+

Luna was interrupted from her thoughts, as the small groups attention was brought to King Akachi as he moved towards her son bowing slightly before him.

“Hello, I am King Akachi of the Zebrican alliance.” Akachi stated, as he brought his head back up looking at the young prince with a welcoming smile on his face.

“H-Hello King Akachi, my name is Daniel Moon son of Luna.” Daniel responded, bowing in return a look of sadness still playing on his face as his thoughts were still on the trip he wouldn’t get to take with his mother.

“Please, raise your head I have no intention of letting a polite boy such as yourself bow to me.” The zebra stated, ruffling the boys hair gently causing him to giggle softly and look at Akachi with a more child-like expression.

“Daniel, you will be going to Zebrica with King Akachi to learn how to control your newfound powers I want you...to do your best to make a good impression your momma okay…?” Luna stated, tears threatening to make their way from her eyes as she subconsciously fixed Daniel’s hair and armor to look more presentable.

Daniel was heart broken, and quickly moved to hug Starry and Vinyl tightly tears flowing from his eyes. Luna did her best not to break down as she looked at King Akachi, an apologetic smile on her face as a single tear fell from her eye blending in softly with her coat.

“Do not fret Luna, I will allow you time to say goodbye to your son...We leave in the morning.” Akachi stated, bowing his head slightly.

Luna simply nodded, sitting with her son as the other royals were led out of the room to leave the group alone. She despised the fact that with all the power she possessed, she couldn’t manage to keep her son beside her.

Vinyl looked up, seeing her rulers distress as she stood alone beside them small tears making there way down her cheeks. Her heart went out to her, and deep in her own mind she knew that teaching him how to use his powers were for the best...nonetheless, she felt as though she was letting go of somepony she considered family, like a little brother of sorts...

“Daniel...I think you should go..” Vinyl stated, not really meaning it.

Both children looked up at her in disbelief, Daniel being the one most hurt by her words causing his guardian to grit her teeth in regret. Starry held tighter onto Daniel, unwilling to accept her friends verdict.

“Daniel...believe me, having you leave is the LAST thing your mother and I want, but this is for the best because if you don’t learn, you could end up hurting someone by accident.” Vinyl explained, doing her best to sound firm and loving.

Daniel contemplated what his guardian told him, looking down at his own hands. He might’ve not remembered much or any of the experience, but he remembered the rage he felt before he blacked out, he remembered the cry of pain from Starry as Atlas knocked her off his back. However, the most terrifying the he could recall, was his bloodlust he wanted more than anything to make Atlas suffer for what he had done to not only that poor guard but for hurting his best friend.

“Daniel…?”

Daniel was interrupted from his thoughts to see Starry looking at him, her golden iris shining under the current lighting.

“W-Will I ever be able to see you again…?” Daniel asked, looking at both his mother and Vinyl.

Luna’s eyes widened at the realization, her son thought he was being sent away...forever…

“What are you talking about kiddo, of c-”

Suddenly, Daniel was picked up suddenly by his mother's magic into the tightest most heartfelt hug his mother has ever given him as she nuzzled him lovingly.

“Of course you will, my silly little prince nothing could ever stop me from seeing my precious son!” Luna exclaimed, tears now freely flowing down her cheeks as her son cried tear of relief with her.

Daniel was so happy to hear that he would return as soon as he was finished with his training, and was about to rush down to hug his best friend. However, when he looked down he saw his friend looking down sadly, unable to look at him as he moved away from the warm embrace of his mother.

“Starry…?” Daniel said, trying to gently get Starry’s attention.

Tears fell from the young fillies cheeks, as she jumped into the arms of who she considered her first and only friend as she buried her face in his chest.

“Y-YOU BETTER WRITE TO ME E-EVERYDAY O-O-OKAY!” Starry told the young prince, her voice muffled and silenced due to her muzzled buried in his chest.

“O-Okay, I promise...Starry.” Daniel stated, returning the hug in full.
Both Vinyl and the lunar princess giggled slightly, causing the children to blush slightly but not in any way break their embrace.

Chapter 12 "The Night After..."

View Online

It’s been more than a few hours since the council’s decision was made, so to enjoy what would be their last moments before they could see each other again, Luna and Vinyl escorted both Starry and Daniel to the small gardens that the castle kept separate from the populace.

The garden itself while small, and was not without beauty as it was tended to on a daily basis by the castle staff. There was a large amount of shrubbery containing the garden, as well as several guards posted at every corner of the small garden as to keep any enemy assassins from attempting to enter through the gardens. There were also many small patches where you could see many types of vegetables, and fruits growing many still not ripe but with a few looking close to perfect.

The group as a whole, simply enjoyed to spend their time together as Luna lay on the soft grass holding her son gently in her hooves. Vinyl was content with simply staying near, while not currently wearing her usual armaments as there was already enough guards around them to keep her mind at relative ease. Starry was now sleeping next to the now calm prince, the fur on her cheeks disheveled due to her previous sobs.

“M-Momma...why do I have to go…?” Daniel questioned not looking at his mother, instead he looked up into the stars as he grabbed his chest tightly.

Luna lowered her head, looking at her son’s emotionless face with sadness. “They only fear what they don’t understand, and that makes them fools...but, they are fools with reasons you have no control over...and, that's why you cannot stay with me.” Luna nuzzled Daniel, trying her best to console him.

“That s-sounds stupid…” Daniel stated, as he gently stroked Starry’s mane gently so as to not wake his sleeping friend.

“Yes, that does seem rather stupid to you doesn’t it…” Luna gently move Daniel’s head to see tears starting to form, just as hers did. “That is why you can’t stay my son, because you have abilities that not even I know of...that is why they are afraid of you.”

Daniel simply nods, while not fully understanding he wanted nothing more than to make his mother happy. “I-Is King Akachi nice…?” Daniel asked worriedly, as he nuzzled his mother in return.

“Of course Daniel, King Akachi is one of my most trusted friends. There is no need to worry, I trust him to take care of you and keep you safe.” Luna reassured him, nuzzling him softly as she looked up at the sky. “Do you remember our first night together?” Luna asked, causing the boy to look up.

“N-Not really...all I remember is pain stopping…” Daniel replied, not willing to revisit memories of that place.

Luna chuckles, not sure what to think of that. “Well little one, you were staring up the night sky your very first night sky I assume.” Luna gently nuzzled Daniel, as he looked up at the sky with his mother tears streaming down his face once again as his mother continued. “Well on that night, you asked me a very peculiar question. One that I didn’t have an answer for until now…” Luna stated, as Daniel looked at his mother in confusion.

“W-What did I ask?”

Luna didn’t look at him, instead her horn lit up in it’s traditional way of dark blue. “The sky, stars, and moon that make the night while beautiful in their own way, they all make one whole.” The stars begin to move into several shapes, one of a pony, one of a hippogryph, a mighty dragon, a fierce griffon, and a majestic alicorn. All the shapes seemed to move around one another in a circle, and in the center was a shape that looks very similar to Daniel. “Just like the stars, every creature great and small has a purpose and is beautiful in its own unique way. Also each living creature helps each other, as the moon helps all races know when it’s time to rest.” Luna explained, trying her best not to release the tension the spell she was casting was having on her as she looked at her son.

“I made a mistake, I told you that I make the stars but in reality there was nothing to make. I only keep the stars, moon, and the dreams of every creature in balance as that is my purpose.” Luna lifts Daniels head, using her magic to wipe away his tears. “You are new, and because of that we don’t know what your purpose is...but, just like every creature here you will find your purpose…” Luna turned back to the sky using her magic to move the stars inside the circle to form lines point from each individual creature, directly towards the ‘Daniel shaped’ star formation.

Daniel saw this, his eyes widening from how incredible it looked as his mother turned back to face him moving her head so it was in direct contact with his. “You can be whatever you want to be my little starburst, and whatever that may be I have a feeling it will unite all the races in a way that will be remembered for eternity.” Luna immediately released the spell, causing the stars to move to their original positions in the sky as Daniel looked at his mother now full of hope.

“D-Do you really think so?...” Daniel asked, tears no longer falling from his eyes.

“I do.” Luna confirmed, nodding gently while smiling at her son.

Daniel smiled back, laying his head onto his mothers barrel as he continued to look at the night sky. Luna was content was with doing the same, as she began to sing her son softly off to sleep.

“Baby mine, don’t you cry.
Baby mine, dry you eyes.”

Luna gently draped her wing over the two resting children as she continued. Daniel being content to close his eyes.

“Rest your head
Close to my heart,
Never to part,
Baby of mine.”
As she sang, Luna’s horn began to glow as small glass-like figures of herself and her older sister when they were nothing but a simple pegasus and a unicorn respectively. The figures quickly running with the wind away from a group of disapproving ponies to another large alicorn with a red mane and tail.

“Little one,
When you play,
Don’t you mind
What they say.”

“Let those eyes,
Sparkle and shine.
Never a tear,
Baby of mine”

As she sang, the two young fillies were held by the unfamiliar alicorn as she consoled their crying states as she made them laugh and giggle together by tickling them softly.

“If they knew
Sweet little you.
They’d end up
Loving you too.”

“All those same
Ponies who scold you,
What they’d give
Just for the right
To hold you.”

Luna gave Daniel a soft squeeze, as to not wake Starry as she continued. The figures now moving to form the now present Luna and Daniel. The figure of Luna playfully picking up her son with her magic, spinning around laughing in the process.

“From you head
Down to your toes,
Your not much,
Goodness knows.”

“But you’re so
Precious to me,
Sweet as can be,
Baby of mine.”

The two figures began to fade, as the figure of luna hugged her smiling son tightly as they nuzzled each other tear of pure happiness leaving their eyes. Luna’s magic fading with the figures, she looked to see her son had drifted peacefully to sleep as Vinyl made her presence known once more.

“Do you really trust King Akachi?” Vinyl asked, having heard everything.

Luna nodded, nuzzling Daniel once more before turning toward Vinyl. “ Yes, while zebrican’s culture is greatly different from ours Akachi has been trying to adapt his fellow zebra’s into our society.” Luna explained, her face getting serious as she looked at Vinyl.

“But Luna, the training zebra go through is much more brutal than we have if he trains there he may not be the same when he returns...” Vinyl stated, her worried tone adamant.

Luna clenched her teeth, she knew the risk of sending him there but at this point it was inevitable. If he didn’t go he would either be abandoned to the wastelands, or be killed out of fear. In this case her hooves were tied down by her sister and the council, and the only thing she could do was hope Akachi knew how important this precious boy was to her.

“I-I understand the risk Vinyl, but my hooves are tied right now the only hope for my son is to make him an honorary representative of Equestria so that he may unite us not only with Zebrica, but with all of Equis and its races.” Luna stated, unable to look her guard in the eye.

Vinyl sits in front of the princess, giving her a sympathetic look as she looks towards Daniel. “We’re really banking on the little prince to bring together the whole of Equis, after decades of war and destruction?” Vinyl chuckles, hating herself for going along with this. “Will we ever know real peace?...”

“I sure hope so Vinyl, but one thing is for sure…” Luna looks down at her son, as she rests her head gently on the soft grass. “My little Starburst will be at the center of it all.” Vinyl joins her, closing her eyes to sleep.

“He’s going to be one hell of a prince.” Vinyl states.

Luna shakes her head, “No, He is going to be the greatest ‘King’ of all time…”

Chapter 13 "Goodbye...for now."

View Online

Luna was a princess, there was no questioning that. She was one of the two royal alicorns that made some of the most difficult decisions in all of their kingdom, but in her long 200 year life she has learned that no amount of responsibility outweighs the responsibility of taking care of a child or in this case HER child.

Daniel was walking beside the royal princess, holding onto her foreleg as tight as he could as they walk through the castle. Luna had done her best to make this morning go as slowly as possible, going as far as holding the moon at dawn until her elder sister forced the moon to set much to Luna’s dismay. After her first attempt failed, instead of allowing the royal chefs to cook their breakfast Luna herself made a full-course meal to her son’s delight causing him to smile brightly for the first time that morning. Before they began to eat their meals, Starry arrived rushing into the dining hall to hug her beloved friend, apologizing for having to leave home to tell her mother the situation causing the young prince’s smile to fade quickly.

“I-It’s okay Starry…I-I’m just glad you’re here…” Daniel stated softly, taking his seat once more as Starry joined them.

“Ms. Swirls, please feel welcome to eat breakfast with us. I believe you deserve to spend as much time as you can with my son, and I know it will cheer him up to be near you.” Luna stated, causing Daniel to look at his friend with his signature soft smile as both his and Luna’s food arrived. “Ah speaking of which, excuse me but could you request one more breakfast for my son’s guest?” Luna requested to the young mare who brought them their food, causing her to bow as she quickly went back to the kitchen to carry out her princess's request.

The trio began to eat slowly, Daniel gaining some energy after taking the first bite of his mothers cooking Starry following suite. Luna couldn’t help but smile warmly at the sight of Starry moving sneakily towards her friend, placing a hoof around her sons back despite the obvious discomfort Luna could tell she felt moving her hoof around Daniel’s larger frame.

Luna, having enough of this sore mood placed her utensils down seeing that both Starry and her son were done eating. “Daniel, Ms. Swirls would you like to see something amazing?” Luna asked, smiling genuinely at the idea she had.

Both the children nodded, mostly to just be polite as they were too depressed to do anything else as Daniel and Starry were lifted gently onto her back leaving the dining hall. As they travelled the halls Daniel realized he’d never been to this part of the castle, hearing loud birds as they neared a set of medium sized doors that were just the size of the Lunar princess. “Umm, princess where are we going?” Starry questioned, as if reading the young prince’s mind.

Luna chuckled, her horn aglow as she used her magic to open the door slowly. “Somewhere I believe you and my son will enjoy.” Luna stated, the door now fully opened, and the two saddened children were now looking in awe at the large room filled with a certain species of bird. Not just any bird however, what the children were witnessing was one of the royal sisters’ greatest secrets. “Starry Swirls, Daniel my son, welcome to The Oasis of the Phoenix.”

The room was large to say the least, not the size of the Mess hall or council room but the sheer height of this room would throw anypony off to their size. The room like much of the castle was made from dark cobblestone with the only difference being that most if not all the room was covered wall to wall with large window-like frames, as well as pedestals for all phoenix to perch onto when they arrive.

Luna gently walked into the room, giving a small nod to the team of caretakers as well as the set of guards stationed who were now bowing to the Princess and to her young son. As the children look down towards the caretakers before them, they several of them tending to flock after flock of phoenix by preening them, refilling their food supply, and even tending to those who possessed wounds. However, both Starry and Daniel were in for a surprise when they felt and heard Luna clearing her throat to catch their attention causing them to turn to look ahead of Luna.

What they saw, made any sad thoughts they had left disappear from their minds. What they saw was, entire nests of nothing but phoenix eggs.

“Woah…” Both children state, Starry having stars in her eyes while Daniel just looked in awe as he slowly moved off his mother back towards the eggs.

Luna could only chuckle as she gently held her son back with a hoof, using her magic to lift the young filly off her back as well. “I hoped this would cheer you up, this room while used for mainly caring for injured phoenix who manage to fly here, we also have them send messages to and from other countries through notes or letters.” Luna explained, doing her best and failing to keep her smile to herself.

“W-Why do they look like fire, do they hurt?” Daniel asked, causing Luna to grit her teeth in an attempt to hold in a ‘Dawww’ from escaping her lips. Instead, she cleared her throat looking down to her son with a smile and a small chuckle.

“No, my son, the phoenix species look like that so other birds don’t try to hurt them. They aren’t going to hurt you unless you try to hurt them.” Luna explained, gently leading Starry and her son to the eggs.

“May I, touch an egg princess?” Starry asked, somewhat afraid as she moved closer to the eggs trying her best to contain her scientific excitement.

“Why of course Ms. Swirls, just be cautious phoenix eggs can be rather fragile.” Luna stated, chuckling to herself as Starry reaches a hoof to touch one of the many eggs before her.

Daniel did the same, carefully placing a hand onto one of the eggs as he gently rubbed the top of it. Luna watched in amusement at the two, smiling gently and nuzzling her now awestricken son.

“Daniel, Starry while I did bring you both here, I actually had a gift mainly for you my son. Something that you could use to always keep in touch with me should you need me, and a companion if you ever feel too lonely.” Luna explained, Starry’s eyes widening at the realization and Daniel looking curious at his mother.

“Are you going to give Daniel a baby phoenix?!?” Starry question, excitement adamant in her voice as she moves her hoof from the egg and jumps around excitedly.

“In a sense, however I won’t be giving you one of these eggs. While I trust you son, the eggs can take years to hatch and I feel you need something more…experienced as your guide.” Luna explained, once again chuckling to herself as she turned towards the team of caretakers.

“Summer Starling, come her please.” Luna called, and a mare with a disheveled blue, orange, and white mane and tail ran over to the princess bowing quickly as she skidded to a stop.

“Y-Yes princess, h-how may I b-be of assistance?” Summer Starling questioned, stress and nervousness simply radiating from her causing both Luna and her young son to worry about the mare.

“Y-yes well, Ms. Starling do you happen to have any phoenix who is close to rebirth?” Luna asked, causing the young mare to look up with a small smile.

“Why yes, in fact we have one that is about t-“ Summer Starling started to say, before she felt a small hand on her chest causing her to look down at the young prince who was looking at her with a worried expression.

“Umm, may I help you...?” Starling questioned, looking at Daniel confused as he just looked at her.

“A-are you okay miss?” Daniel asked, looking at her more and more concern filling his expression as his mother gently pulled him away.

“Apologies Ms. Starling, this is my son Daniel he is the one I’m giving this phoenix to.” Luna explained, causing the young mare to panic slightly as she bowed softly to Daniel.

“M-My apologies Prince Daniel, I meant no disrespect.” Starling stated in a panic, only receiving a nod from the young prince she sighed in relief. I-If you’ll please follow me, I’ll take you to her.” Starling bowed, turning to lead them in the direction of another section of the room.

In this section, hidden behind a white cloth that was using metal bars to stand, was a very large flock of very sickly-looking flock of birds that looked nothing like the ones just outside causing both children’s faces to change drastically.

“Here we are princess; please will you allow me to say which is closest to rebirth?” Starling requested, receiving a nod from Luna she hastily looked through each of the ill-looking phoenix each one looking sicklier than the last.

After a few moments Starling picks up which is probably the most Ill-looking phoenix of them all and places it into the young prince’s cupped hands. “This little lady is just about ready to start it’s rebirth, now don’t move this can startle a lot of ponies the first time they see this.” Starling stated, however it seemed to have fallen on death ears as Daniel looked at this poor phoenix with sadness in his eyes.

“W-What’s wrong with her, i-is she hurting?” Daniel looked at his mother, his eyes filled with sadness and confusion. This caused Luna to nuzzle her son, smiling as she gently consoled him to calm him.

“No son, don’t fret, what you are about to bare witness is what all of the phoenix species go through.” Luna explains, as she does the small bird in Daniel’s hands suddenly lights aflame turning into ash within seconds. This causes the young boy to gasp in fear, the only thing keeping the young prince from crying was his mother and his friend who was now next to him understanding that he doesn’t realize what’s going on.

“Daniel, the phoenix species is known for two things, one is for their healing properties, and another is their ability to come back from the ashes to live a new life.” Starry explained more simply, gesturing to the pile of ash that was now swirling into the air by some unknown force.

Daniel looked up in amazement, the pile that was once ash began to glow like fire as it swirled above even the head of Luna as the now spinning flame exploded into a form of a bird, it’s wings spread at full mast as it began to fly around Daniel causing him to flinch. However, what Daniel felt wasn’t pain but in fact a warm feeling covering his body as if it was his mother holding him. Opening his eyes, he managed to catch as the now revived phoenix land in his still cupped hands as she looked upon him curiously.

“Go on son, pet her.” Luna encouraged, nuzzling Daniel gently as he did as he was told. The phoenix backing away slightly, but soon accepting and even enjoying the gently rubs and scratches Daniel gave her.

“Do you have a name for her!” Starry asked excitedly, her hooves barely holding back her large ear-to-ear grin as she sat right next to her friend. Daniel only gave a confused look to his mother.

“Doesn’t she have a name momma?” Daniel looked at the now imprinted phoenix, as she gently nuzzled and gently bit into her new owner. This caused Luna to look at Starling, causing the mare to stand more stiffly as she nodded in response.

“In her previous life her name was Philomena, however you don’t NEED to name her the same if you don’t want to.” Starling explained, causing Daniel to look into the young phoenix eyes as she investigated his.

“I like that name, Philomena it sounds pretty.” Daniel stated, causing all around him to nod, Starling reaching down to pet the phoenix only to be greeted with a violent bite that made the tired mare back off in pain as she felt a small yet harsh nip at her hoof.

“Ah, it seems Philomena sees that her owner can’t really defend themselves.” Starling stated, gently sucking on her hoof as Daniel gently scolded the now named phoenix.

“Well, now that you have named it let me tell you-“

“Princess Luna!” The sound of Vinyl’s voice could be heard all over the oasis, causing all to get startled some of the phoenix flying off into different direction while the staff tried to calm them.

Using her magic, she quickly yet gently rushed out of the large tarp around the section of rebirth. Seeing Vinyl, she notices she was out of breath and what was a look of stress was now forming into a face of relief as she sighed. “What is the meaning of this Commander Scratch?” Luna questioned, a small amount of sternness on her muzzle.

“My apologies Princess, but the Zebra’s are readying for their departure and no guard had seen you since breakfast.” Vinyl explained, bowing her head in apology as Luna sighed in exasperation.

*Honestly, does my sister trust me so little that I cannot simply take my son for a walk…* Luna thought, slightly annoyed as she looked at Vinyl. “It’s fine Commander, please take us to the departure area.” Luna commanded, causing Vinyl to nod and Daniel to hold Starry and Philomena close for comfort. With a sigh, Luna used her magic to lift her son to her back once more.

“W-Wait!” Starry gently shouted, almost forgetting who she was talking to as Luna, Vinyl, and Daniel looked down to her. “I-I’m sorry princess, but c-could I come w-with you?” Starry requested, shutting her eyes as she struggled not to upset the lunar goddess.

“Why of course, how rude of me to attempt to separate such good friends without saying goodbye.” Luna stated, causing both children to sigh in relief thus making Luna smile doing her best not to chuckle at the display as she lifted Starry to her back as well. As Luna made her way with the help of Vinyl, the two children and newly added Philomena began to huddle together to comfort each other.

“W-Wait!” Daniel objected, his head raising as he used a free hand to gesture to Starling who had just exited the Rebirth section.

Starling moved curiously over to the young prince, bowing gently to him. “Yes, Prince Moon?”

Daniel did not say anything at first, instead Starling felt a hand on her forehead and a sudden warmth spread over her body as if all her stress known and unknown was flushed away. “Please, rest miss.” Daniel requested, simply and softly as the mare looked at him in amazement only receiving a nod in response. This caused Luna to look at her both in surprise and understanding. She hadn’t fully accepted why her son had to be sent away, but one thing was for sure in the princess’s mind.

*No matter his feelings, he will always put others above himself.* She thought, as she moved to follow the equally smiling Vinyl to the departure gate.

The group took their time getting to the departure gate, but eventually they arrived and were greeted by none other than that of King Akachi himself. During the meeting, he had adorned a royal attire however it seemed as if he’d been an entirely different Zebra. At this moment he had removed all the royal attire he had on previously and to both Daniel and Starry he had looked as normal as any pony could.

“Good morning Luna, my you sure kept us waiting didn’t you old friend!” Akachi yelled, waving a hoof at the slightly annoyed Luna who looked like she wanted to strike him.

“Well, I apologize that I wished to spend as much time with my son as I could before his departure.” Luna commented coldly, causing the young king to stutter from her coldness.

“A-Ah yes, well I apologize for interrupting. I would have scheduled to leave at a later hour, however my wife has sent word that the elders are getting rather anxious.” Akachi stated nervously doing his best to sound as regal as possible, however was failing miserably as Luna only grew more upset as she gently lifted her confused son and his friend down off her back where they chose to stand.

“Then I’m sure, you could wait a few more moments before leaving as to make sure my son has everything he needs.” Luna said coldly, as she looked away from the king towards her son who was startled by the now intimidating look she had on her muzzle.

“M-Momma?” Daniel asked in a quivering voice, looking at his mother with slight fear as Starry and Philomena put themselves in a defensive stance despite having no chance against the lunar princess.

After a moment however, Luna sighed seeing her son’s fearful face making her realize that she was being childish and needed to calm down. “I’m sorry son, please forgive your silly mother’s actions.” Luna apologized, gently licking her sons nose lovingly as she looked towards Vinyl. “Commander Scratch, were the clothmakers able to finish the task I set them to do?” Luna asked, raising her head to clearly face the guard who saluted and gave her answer clear and true.

“Yes princess, they were able to make a month’s worth of clothing for the young prince and everything has been securely packed and stored onto the main wagon in which he will be traveling.” Vinyl stated, getting a small nod from the princess as she looked down to her son once again.

“My son, are you alright?” She didn’t mean to ask such an inappropriate question; she knew that this was just as hard for him that it was for her. Luna was doing her best to hold back tears just to be sure not to make her son feel worse than he already felt, however that was shattered the moment Daniel ran to give her the strongest hug she has yet to receive from him. It wasn’t tight, in fact if she wanted to she could break this embrace easily, but the feelings that she felt from her son was there as she heard her sons soft yet heartbroken cries.

“I going to miss you Momma!” Daniel shouted, though it was muffled by Luna’s coat she could tell that her son was putting all his emotions out causing her to tear up.

“Don’t fret my son, we will be back together soon until then please be Momma’s brave little starlight.” Luna cried, as she nuzzled her son being sure to give him as much comfort as he continued to cry. “I want you to know that no matter what may happen, I will always love you my son.” Luna stated, it was simple, and she knew that her son knew how much she loved him however she could not keep herself from stating it.

“I love you too momma, please don’t forget me…” Daniel stated, causing Luna to smile briefly before once again giving one last affectionate lick to her son’s cheek.

“Daniel!” Starry exclaimed, her tears now falling freely as she almost tackled the small prince in the largest embrace, she could muster making the phoenix that was perched on his shoulder to fly up and around the two friends and remained hovering. “You promise to send letters through Philomena, right?” Starry looked up at her best friend her tears staining her friend’s shirt.

“I promise, Starry.” He stated, hugging his friend tightly neither caring of the others tears rubbing into them.

After a moment Daniel felt a hoof on his head, causing him to look up and see Vinyl who herself seemed to be the only one of the three to keep her emotions in check. “Hey kiddo, don’t forget about us neither okay? If you need anything, I’ll be there as fast as lightning.” Vinyl stated proudly, nuzzling her young charge causing him to giggle slightly.

King Akachi was smiling warmly at the entire display and felt even more guilty that he was the reason it was being torn apart. “Are you ready, young prince?” Akachi asked, offering a hoof to the young boy as he looked towards his family and friends.

“Will I be able to come back?” Daniel asked, looking at the king with a hopeful look in his eyes.

“In time, you must first learn how to harness and control your still unknown power. Once that’s finished, yes you may return without a question if it is what you wish.” Akachi stated bluntly, doing his best to sound as reassuring as possible.

With that, Daniel slowly broke free from the group hug Philomena retaking her perch on his shoulder and nuzzling away the remaining tears from her master’s face. As Daniel passed Akachi, the king place a hoof around him, doing his best to comfort him as they walked towards the carriage.

“Do not fret child, despite how mean they look the guards are here to protect us no matter what.” Akachi stated, trying to sound cool as he spoke but failing when he only received a nod in return. Sighing, he moved to the side to allow Daniel to enter the carriage first taking his seat soon after.

*He’ll warm up to you Akachi…hopefully…* Akachi thought as he entered and sat on the opposite side of the carriage as his guards closed the door.

“The cargo is safely secure!” A guard shouted, alerting all involved with the Zebrican entourage that they were ready to leave.

Luna, Vinyl, and Starry stared at the carriage, even after it left their line of sight, they stared hoping with every fiber of their beings that Daniel would be brought back. However, no such thing happened and instead they were only greeted with the distance sound of marching hooves.

“Till we meet again, my little Starlight…” Luna stated sadly, as she, Starry, and Vinyl turned around to return to the Castle.
