Canterlot
Normally ponies would be going about their regular morning, but this morning was not regular. A simple newspaper laying in the street said it all. In large bold letters it declared:
PRINCESS DECLARES THAT TODAY WILL BE THE SUN'S FINAL RISING!!!
The newspaper was then caught by the wind and flew down the street past Prince Blueblood as he ran out of the Canterlot Carousel Boutique in full drag yelling, "I'm finally free!!!" He promptly ran up to a royal guard and kissed him before giggling and rushing off to kiss more stallions.
He ran past another building where a mare wearing a pink towel as a cape yelled, "UP! UP! AND UP SOME MORE!" She then leapt off the roof of the mattress factory and landed into a pile of mattresses as a donkey, a changeling, and a minotaur held up signs with 9.5, 9.0, and a 10.0. Behind her leapt a colt with cardboard wings strapped on and yelling, "To Eternity and a Bit Further Past That!" He managed a double backwards flip before landing in the pile, getting a 10.0, 9.5, and a 5.01 before the last judge flipped it right side up for a 10.5.
The colt climbed off the mattresses to make way for a buffalo wearing a wrestling mask as Zesty Gourmand and Cheese Sandwich trotted past sharing doughnuts and nachos. "Oh Celestia, what have I been missing all my life?" Zesty asked as she trotted along with nacho cheese and chocolate frosting smeared all over her face.
"I know, but just wait until we get to Doughnut Joe's for my 'Super Duper End of the World Party!'" Cheese Sandwich said as he stopped, blew up a balloon, and then made a balloon crown for a filly before catching up to Zesty.
"I'm queen of the world!" She yelled as she raced past Fancy Pants and Fleur De Lis as they trotted through the gates towards the palace and nodding to two guards making out with Blueblood. Ignoring the door they both levitated up grappling guns and fired together and rode them up before swinging in through a window.
"I say, that was fun my dear." Fancy Pants said before asking, "What left on the list?"
"Driving a train, hoof wrestling rematch with Big Mac, and..." Fleur De Lis said as she levitated the list she was reading before blushing and whispering something in Fancy Pants ear that made him blush as well.
"Yes well, I did write this before we were introduced to each other my dear. So if you want just mark that one out." Fancy Pants said.
"Actually, I'll just make it a 5 instead of 4 and we can head to the train station since Rarity told me about the twins who run the spa in Ponyville and the zebra who supplies them with rare herbs for the baths from the Everfree Forest." She said before turning to head for the stairs and giving a flick of her tail towards him with a wink.
As he followed her he didn't even notice Minuette, Twinkleshine, Lemon Hearts, and Moondancer as they past them, heading towards the throne room. He even missed that all four mares were dressed in camouflage and armed with bake goods and water guns filled with milk. Kicking open the door Moondancer yelled, "Everyone down, this is a Coup d'état! You are now all prisoners of the Canterlot Book Club! Don't try anything because we have plenty of Muffins and Milk!"
Several guards burst out laughing as Kibitz, Celestia's majordomo, cleared his throat and announced to the room, "Princess Celestia had urgent business elsewhere today, but has left a suitable temporary replacement for your Coup d'état appointment today. Introducing her highness, the 15 times World Muffin Eating Champion and (until sunset) Princess of (I can't believe I'm saying this) Muffins, Princess Derpy Hooves."
Stepping aside, Kibitz revealed Derpy wearing a muffin themed crown and a T-shirt that said 'Temporary Princess'.
She licked her lips on the throne and that was when Lemon Hearts noticed the new stain glass window behind her.
"Umm... Moondancer, I think this might be a bad ide..." Whatever else Lemon Hearts had been about to say ended when Derpy leapt from the throne and was lost too history in the ensuing epic battle.
From the throne room window a single paper napkin flew out and was caught by the wind. Drifting across a Canterlot enjoying one last party before the end of the world. It finally landed on the train to Ponyville as it started out of the station with Fancy Pants driving it with a huge smile on his face and Fleur De Lis by his side.
