twilight really didn't know just what she was getting into but fused to a certain changeling queen wasn't what she expected.
twilight had recently gained her castle and met starlight but when she encounters chrysalis once again a dual accidental discharge of both their magic has resulted in both fusing together. now both have to learn how to get along if they have any hope of separating. but their new state has some complications. as both learn what really being a mother is about as a result of their combined biology.
now if only they knew how to separate things would have been just fine.
Twilight Sparkle, known to Equestria as the Princess of Friendship, Alicorn of Magic, and member of the Elements of Harmony, hummed as she organized what books survived the destruction of her old home, the Golden Oaks Library... which, surprisingly, was nearly two-thirds of the old library's stock. She was waiting on a shipment of replacement books and some more to fill up the archives of her castle.
It had been a week since the events at Our Town, where Twilight and her friends met with a unicorn named Starlight Glimmer, who had developed a spell able to remove cutie marks. Such a spell was dangerous, as it stripped a pony of what made them special and unique.
Twilight didn't want to think of the long term consequences of such a spell, because the psychological trauma would have eventually worn a pony down to suicide by lack of will to live.
Twilight was jolted out of her thoughts as a by now familiar sensation from her flank made itself clear; she was being called for an emergency by the ever mysterious magical map table that came with her new castle.
Twilight quickly finished sorting her books before running to the throne room, where the table that acted as the meeting place for her and her friends resided. Heading to look at the map, Twilight was surprised it was just her cutie mark appearing on the holographic surface of the table and that it was centered on the castle in the Everfree Forest.
"The old castle? And why me alone? What kind of emergency am I being sent for?," Twilight asked herself. Her curiosity now roused she left a quick note for Spike and the rest of her friends before heading out to the Everfree Forest. Now that it had been a year since she gained her wings, Twilight was able to avoid most of the forest's usual hazards, and soon spotted the old castle her and her friends had spent some time restoring for the past seven months. Though for some reason, the castle looked even more restored than when Twilight and her friends had last been there.
Being cautious, Twilight landed, and slowly and silently entered before cautiously moving through the castle. Her ears twitched, her mind on trying to see who was in the castle to be restoring it after twilight and her friends.
Twilight couldn't help but notice the castle was slowly being restored to when Luna had become Nightmare Moon. In fact, outside of of some rubble and missing sections in the walls, it nearly looked as it did over a thousand years ago. Which was about 85% of the castle? Though it looked like the secret passages had been used recently by the way the dust looked. Twilight was so deep in thought, she didn't notice that, when she entered the room that Nightmare Moon had been defeated in, another being in a similar state was about to collide with her from pacing the room... which was the cause of what was about to happen.
Both hit each other and instinctively used magic, but with their horns crossed, Twilight only had time to see green eyes that looked startled as her before a flash of light blinded her and whoever the green eyes belonged to.
With that, Twilight fell unconscious, unaware what happened was going to change her life, and that of Equestria, for the next decade.
When she came to, she felt... odd, like something was vastly different, before noticing she was no longer in the former throne room, but instead what must have once been the infirmary of the old castle. What surprised her was the ten changelings moving about, checking medical supplies and tending to injured changelings.
"Ah, you're awake... My queen? Uhh... well, this is odd." said a changeling that looked about in between Chrysalis' height and Twilight's own. She, if the tone of voice was anything to go by, sounded incredibly confused.
"Weaver, what happened, and why are you looking at me like that?!," a very familiar voice said, but Twilight realized the sounds came from her own mouth even as her face entered a stern expression, before it shifted to confusion from Twilight's own emotion.
"Wait, what? Chrysalis? How are you..?" Twilight asked before feeling shock not her own register in her head, and become just as confused as she was.
"Sparkle? What in the name of the eclipse? Weaver, what in the hive happened?," said Chrysalis, before Twilight felt her eyes focus on the now awkwardly nervous changeling.
"To be honest, I'm not sure my queen, but, um... it looks like you have been merged with another being and are now sharing a body together. I have never seen anything like it before, and I don't know how it happened. We just sensed the magic surge earlier last night, and brought you here. It was dark, so we didn't notice your current state until now," said Weaver as she pulled over a mirror and raised it so Twilight could see what had happened.
She felt both eyes go wide-eyed, and couldn't blame Chrysalis, for she would have done the same thing. They had indeed been fused together. Her fur had darkened from lavender to a dark purple color, with her chest, lower forearms, and head covered in what seemed to be armor, with a long black horn similar to Twilight's horn in shape poking out of a teal tinted indigo mane as long as Chrysalis' own, but in Twilight's style, with the armor parting the bangs at the side of her face so it was seen clearly where one violet eye and one green eye stared back. Her wings were a kind of a mix between Twilight's alicorn wings and the insectile wings of a changeling. They resembled a pair of transparent bat wings with feathers covering the backside of the membrane, which matched the darker fur coat. Her hind legs were those of a changeling, being black chitin stopping just under her flank, where her familiar cutie mark was shown, only now outlined by the green fire of changeling magic. Blinking, Twilight felt the face of this reflection open, revealing fangs set in the upper half of her mouth. Set just behind the horn was a black crown, and Twilight felt her ear twitch.
"What in Equestria?!"
The voice that came out of their mouth was now a mix of both of theirs, being mainly Twilight's with a tone and buzz from Chrysalis. Apparently, the two were on the same page, and agreed that what they were seeing was hard to believe, but it was staring right there at them and couldn't be denied.
"My queen, please tell us what happened last night. It might help us to fix this mess," asked Weaver, snapping their focus back on the matter at hand.
"I was thinking on how long it was going to take to finish renovation before we would move back to the hive, and trying to figure out who was previously restoring the castle before we came across it. I was in such deep thought, I didn't notice someone entered the room, and the next thing I know, I'm seeing a bright light and waking up like this," said Chrysalis.
"I can answer that one. It was me and my friends who were restoring the castle. This was where Celestia and Luna lived before Luna became Nightmare Moon. We were fixing it up for both of them... But then Tirek appeared, and we were dealing with the aftermath. And I had to move into a new place, since Tirek destroyed my old home. We were about halfway done when that happened," said Twilight.
"Really? That explains a lot. Saved us most of the trouble, though those secret passages had us confused for a moment," said Chrysalis, surprised.
"As for what I was doing last night, one of the new artifacts in my new home is a table with a map of Equestria, attuned to me and my friends and showing our cutie marks where we are needed. Last night, it sent me here, but I honestly didn't know why. Once I noticed the state of the castle, I was deep in thought trying to figure out who was here, when I guess we collided together in our states. I remember our horns crossed as we both accidentally channeled magic, from being startled by the collision. That might be when we fused." said Twilight.
"Well, then, now that brings up a new problem; how to separate you both. As I said before, I've never seen anything like this before, and it's obvious my queen hasn't either, which only makes this worse. I've never seen two beings like this in my life," said Weaver with a sigh.
"I have seen something like this before, actually, but that was by a stage magician being boosted by the Alicorn Amulet, and just fused two unicorns together by just their horns; nothing at all like this current state. It was easy to fix the previous incident, but not this time. And Chrysalis, I know you're not going to like what I'm about to suggest, but we need to see if Celestia has encountered anything like this. As good at magic as I am, Celestia has more experience then I do." said Twilight nodding their head in understanding.
"Your right. I don't like that suggestion... but you have a point. Celestia might know something about this situation," said Chrysalis, and Twilight felt a bit scared to see a scowl on her face.
"But first, you both need to learn how to move in that body. As you both are, your motor functions are out of order. You both seem to take turns with the head but the rest of you is another story" said Weaver sternly.
"Now I remember why you're the royal physician, Weaver. You're the most skilled in biology in the hive, so I'll defer to your expertise to get past this hurdle... And see what exactly has changed between both of us," said Chrysalis.
"I'll see if I can convince Fluttershy to help. Her job as a vet means she is used to unusual biology. She takes care of the injured residents of the Everfree, and she's tamed a cockatrice before. If anypony can help figure out this body's biology, it's her," said Twilight confident in her assessment.
"Looks like we know what our plan is now; to contact the solar princess for help, and then figure out this body to see if there is a clue to separate us. Weaver, have operations here finished as soon as possible, then join us in Ponyville to meet Fluttershy and see about getting this incident fixed. I don't like being stuck with the one mare I found the most irritating in my time as queen," said Chrysalis.
"To be fair, you didn't look into Cadence's history or my brother's that well, or you would have known about how close I was to Cadence. I grew up with Cadence, so I could tell something was off back then. Though I am still ticked my brother didn't tell me he was dating Cadence, or that he was going to get married, until I got the invite. That really blindsided me, I'll admit." Twilight deadpanned.
"Wait, you didn't know at all that day? Even I knew of the relationship before the wedding, thanks to some scouts. Didn't even know your brother hadn't bothered to prepare you in advance, so it was all last minute for you, then? Explains why you, while seeing through my facade, were so off in trying to warn the others... Odd, this is the longest time I haven't felt the hunger of the changelings," said Chrysalis, surprised.
"Now that you mention it, I can't feel it either. It's like something is spreading love through the hive's link, and feeding every changeling in the hive?," said Weaver, after sending a changeling to relay her queen's orders.
"Might be me, then. In our current state, my emotions must be transmitting through Chrysalis, ending her hunger and thus the hive's. Though, I'm sure ordinary pony hunger is still there," said Twilight, shrugging.
"Right, once the castle is finished being restored, the changelings here will return to the hive, and I'll help you back to Ponyville at night to prevent panic. Then, the next morning, we will contact Celestia. While we wait for her, we should try to see how much work is going to be needed to separate the two of you. So, for now, you two are to stay in that bed until its time to go," said Weaver, and Twilight nodded for both of them.
"Guess in the meantime, you and I are going to be getting to know each other. Like it or not, we have to work together until this situation is fixed," said Twilight, sighing. Chrysalis nodded grudgingly at that.
"It will be interesting, seeing as thanks to you, my hive was saved from Tirek. Without our magic, we would be dead, so I at least owe you for that." said chrysalis.
"I'll leave it to you both, then. I'll send a changeling to pick up some food for you after what happened," said Weaver, going back to her job.
With that, they settled down, hoping they could finish this as soon as possible... unaware that this event was going to change the history of Equestria.
The next day set up how twilight and chrysalis was going to spend time together for the next three months as apparently, the magic surge had revealed the breakpoints in the castle walls closest to the incident and the stone needed to be replaced completely and changelings were going over other sections for similar points and as ponies would notice a huge amount of stone being carved out and going missing the changeling had little choice but to use changeling techniques to craft their own bricks to replace the stone.
What surprised twilight and chrysalis were that they could experience their memories and on chrysalis' part transfer relevant memories to her hive. Specifically, twilight's memories from the potion discord had zecora brew to get to fix the plunder vine incident of the castle at the time luna became nightmare moon.
So while the changelings worked to restore the castle twilight and chrysalis delved into each other's memories to get to know each other.
"Gah! Love poison! Those three fillies actually managed to actually make that stuff successfully? There was a reason that stuff is banned! What historians have forgotten was that one of those ponies from that hearts and hooves story was that the mare was a changeling. Her death caused a war between Equestria and the changelings and it was only ended if the love poison was outlawed. This was three centuries before Celestia and Luna defeated discord as he at the time only took over a century after that event. That story was past down from changeling queen to changeling queen with a stern warning never to brew the stuff. And from your memories, I'm glad you disciplined them but now who was the fool who thought actually leaving the recipe in that book was a good idea. Part of the conditions was that nothing should have remained as that potion was to never be allowed to exist!" chrysalis ranted in shock their shared body shuddering.
"I'll bring it up to Celestia and see about fixing that after seeing that memory I'm agreeing that it shouldn't exist to cause a repeat of the past. Luckily we caught it in time to save them. That poison is too dangerous" Twilight agreed.
That was the first of their willing memory dives since they discovered the ability that first night they ended up in this state. And in the afternoon weaver was helping the two relearn their motor functions so they could no longer be confined to the infirmary. So far they regained control of their wings and tail which was the start of getting their movements synced up so they could function normally.
Once they could move without incident they would head to ponyville for fixing the situation. To make sure twilight's friends won't panic a changeling disguised as a Pegasus messenger was sent to spike with a letter letting them know she was fine and that something had come up that she needed Fluttershy's help with and that once she returned she needed to speak with Celestia.
It took Fluttershy three days to arrive and be briefed on the situation and twilight's faith was well placed as between weaver's knowledge on changeling anatomy and Fluttershy's own on unusual and pony biology helped to them relearning how to move. With each memory dive, the two gained a deeper respect for each other. Chrysalis had by the end of month one had experienced twilight facing nightmare moon and discord and had recently gone through the lesson zero incident which added on to what happened at the wedding which chrysalis had seen from Twilight's perspective. Twilight in return experienced chrysalis' life from her earliest memory to how she became queen to the struggles of keeping her hive alive.
Currently, the two were testing how they both controlled their motor functions and as embarrassing as it was to keep falling like a child just learning to walk they were making progress. By the end of the hour, they were able to walk without problems which Fluttershy was glad about.
The shy pegasus was teaching weaver about a spell that could scan a beings internal structure and project the image onto a flat surface. She had brought a book detailing the spell from a quick visit to nurse red heart to help in this situation.
The restoration was going a lot more smoothly through the room twilight and chrysalis had fused in had to be rebuilt from scratch as the area was totaled from the event. Bricks made from changelings were stronger then equestrian bricks as they were a lot more magic resistant and with changeling magic could look like regular bricks. They were also inscribed with runes to absorb ambient magic to reinforce the construct further. The result was a lot more durable building material that would last a long time.
With how damaged the castle was after a thousand years it had to be rebuilt from the ground up. The restoration efforts twilight and her friends did clear out the rubble which allowed changelings to use one alchemy matrix to convert the existing material into the new one which if done properly would shave time off the restoration process. What was missing was filled in quickly?
The second month both twilight and chrysalis had fully caught up on each other's memories which on chrysalis' part impressed her and when she learned of what happened at our town incensed was an understatement.
"A spell to remove a cutie mark from a pony. Never thought such a thing would appear again. Twilight your thoughts on the long-term use of that spell was correct that spell was developed to weed out changelings during that war before discord took over. Regular ponies after twenty years under its effects did die from the entropy the spell caused. That spell drives one to be emotionless and depressed to the point they just stop living. My ancestors were sure to destroy any knowledge on that spell as for changelings who feed on love the use of that spell would mean mutual destruction for ponies and changeling alike. To think someone managed to recreate it and use it. Use of that spell was a crime resulting in life in prison with the unicorn's magic bound. It was a agreement between princess platinum and the changelings that remains in effect to this day. I will have some changelings back at my hive track down this starlight glimmer so she can appear in your courts to face justice." said Chrysalis.
Twilight was used to this by now as what twilight experienced in the past if it catches chrysalis' attention she would give a lesson on forgotten history if what was encountered was dire for changelings and ponies. Twilight had been compiling these lessons into a book she had titled forgotten times and chrysalis had been making a majority of the book as realizing that it was forgotten history on the ponies side decided to rectify it. Which led to the two to realize they had a lot in common outside their royal duties as both enjoyed history and spell research. Month two was also when both relearned how to fly. Chrysalis had seen twilight's flight lessons and had transformed into pegasi before so she helped twilight learn to properly fly but with their new wings they had to learn a new method outside of thermals. Fluttershy really helped out by helping them understand bat wings seeing as part of their wings resembled it. And how bats fly was mostly gliding with few sharp flaps to stay airborne. The feathers behind the membrane was to help catch thermals for the two. For bird feathers were better at finding them then bat wings.
This helped them learn how to fly and allowed them to inspect the upper floors of the castle and direct changelings to repair them. Twilight's tendency for checklists combined with chrysalis used to directing groups made the effort really effective as twilight outlined what was left to do and chrysalis set up groups to do them.
By month three they were getting used to their magic again. If one was in control the horn was using that specific magic that belonged to them but when they worked together their magic was stronger and easily controlled.
By that point, the castle was finally finished and the group was ready to head to ponyville to finally fix this current situation and try and separate twilight and chrysalis. While Weaver and Fluttershy were the only ones accompanying the fused royal the remaining changelings were off for their hive with instructions to send out a search party to locate starlight glimmer to stand trial.
Weaver had taken on a form of a unicorn with blue fur and a violet mane with her cutie mark is a weave of bandages. Fluttershy helped her develop this form to help her blend in. And like weaver said returning at night was helping to prevent panic. Fluttershy went home promising to bring everyone over to the castle and twilight was holding a scroll for Spike to send in the morning. Setting Weaver in a guest room for the night twilight and chrysalis went to sleep themselves.
The next morning fluttershy led the others into the castle and waited for the fused royals to arrive. Which didn't take long when the fused form of twilight and chrysalis walked in and sat at twilights throne. The reactions were a bit mixed between wide eyes or a smile.
"My word!"
"Holy!"
"What in tarnation!"
"Morning twisalis!"
As one rarity, rainbow and applejack turned to stare at pinkie pie while the fused royal also stared at the pink earth pony.
"What? Got to call them something in this state through this explains the doozy i picked up months ago" said pinkie confused at the looks she was getting.
"If i haven't seen your memories twilight i wouldn't have believed she was so good at predictions. How she didn't tell i wasn't cadence when you could still baffles me" said chrysalis.
"In this case seeing is believing is very accurate in describing pinkie pie" twilight giggled in agreement.
"Not going to lie that's a touch creepy twilight" said applejack.
"We got used to it for the past three months we will explain how this happened once celestia arrives as she might know how to reverse this" they both said their unique combined voice in a deadpan tone.
"So this is why you asked for fluttershy then? To help with this combined body?" asked rarity.
"In twilight's own words she is a expert on unusual biology and by helping us relearn to fly she proved it and showed twilight's faith was not misplaced" admitted chrysalis.
"That and we hoped she could help us understand what is different between us to help separate. Spike has sent a letter asking celestia to come here as for the time being we have to stay here to prevent a panic. We had to get here at night for that reason" said twilight.
"Also i'm glad you two disciplined your sisters for that love poison incident that stuff started a war before the time of discord its not known but the mare in that hearts and hooves story was really a changeling. The marriage was to try and better relations between changelings and ponies but well that stuffs effect on changelings besides what a pony goes through makes the reason its called a poison true. It affects the changelings by altering their ability to gather love and messes with their mind to the point they truly believe their not a changeling at all with complete memory loss. It also locks a changeling in their current guise." said chrysalis.
"It is deadly to changelings for that reason. We have been working on bringing the forgotten history back so it doesn't repeat itself." twilight said.
At this point spike walked in with celestia's reply.
"They will be here in two hours. Celestia and luna are going to pick up cadence and shining armor before they get here. Rarity care to help me make some tea? I have the feeling everyone is going to need it once the explanation is finished" said spike letting the unicorn mare nod and follow him to the kitchen.
Two hours came and the four royals entered the throne room and stumbled on seeing the merged body of twilight and Chrysalis.
"Now I can see why you called us" said cadence.
"What happened twilight" asked Celestia looking at her former student in concern.
"That's a bit of a long story Celestia" said Chrysalis with a wince.
"One we hoped you might be able to help resolve" twilight added on seeing the startled looks on her family.
"Trust us when we say we don't know what to do about this" both said.
Once the past three months were told Celestia looked nervous and forlorn.
"I'm sorry to say but I don't know how to help on this. The last time I saw a conjoinment of this scale was when discord was just learning his powers. And that took the elements of harmony to fix. As those have been returned to the tree of harmony we can't use them to separate the two of you. Because it requires the target not to be a bearer of them and your new abilities since tirek was defeated is based on the same principles. The closest I can equate this situation is when Luna became nightmare moon. No offense sister but I still have a hard time thinking you were the same pony what with the drastic change of appearance." Celestia with a wince.
"None taken and unfortunately I'm not much help on this either. If anything I can only suggest researching chimeras as their the closest species we know in a similar situation. Other then that I'm in a similar boat to my sister" said Luna giving both a sad look.
"I'm good at sheild spells but not much else sorry sis" shining armor said with a wince.
"My advice would have been checking your full biology getting able to move was a good start but what about internal organs" said cadence worried.
"That's what I'm here for thanks to Red Heart Via fluttershy teaching me a spell for just that" said Weaver waving her hoof.
"She's the royal physician of Chrysalis' Hive so her help is needed to get used to both of us moving together in this body. We wanted to be sure we won't have any problems before doing that spell." Said twilight nodding to Weaver who cast the spell and projected the scan onto a wall.
"Well good news is it seems you both retained the glands changelings use for the material of our building material and paralyze venom alongside the obvious chitin. Turns out even your not changeling biology has taken on traits so your body is equal in terms of durability. Hmm and according to what your womb is giving out on this scan your about three months pregnant!" Weaver said shocked as that info registered.
"WHAT!" Shouted everyone as rarity fainted and didn't have her swooning couch with her so spike caught her.
"B-but how! I would have remembered something like that and I never dated before" twilight was freaking out until Chrysalis took over keeping their body calm.
"Must have been the fusion. One of my eggs must have been left in your womb as a result of the sudden change. We used to be differing heights so it is possible" said Chrysalis using the breathing exercises cadence taught twilight to help twilight calm down.
"So twilight got pregnant and is still a virgin... After seeing this state the two of you are in this is the least oddest thing I have seen today" said rainbow raising a eyebrow.
"Don't let my calm expression fool you I was in the same boat as twilight. I never had a lover in the Hive but one of the two of us has to keep a level head" Chrysalis told them.
"We were a Hive created by Chrysalis who found outcasted changelings and gave us a place to fit in. Unlike normal hives we weren't born into it like most. While changeling queens are our rulers in a Hive each type are represented by a council. I was kicked out for wanting to be a medic when normally injured changelings are left to die. So take it at my word when I am saying this is a first for Chrysalis as well. I had my work cut out after your wedding never before have I been glad Chrysalis let me follow the path I wanted. It's why I'm the royal physician" said Weaver.
"So we can't separate the two of you as we don't know how it will affect the infant. And that gives us a timeframe to find a way to separate you both. We will send over anything we can find on magic like what caused this" said Celestia as by the look on the fused royals face they were going to keep the baby.
"That's appreciated Celestia and before you ask twilight is willing to actually marry me once the baby is born. With access to each other's memories we can skip the dating process we know each other probably better then twins do" said Chrysalis having felt twilight's feelings get sorted out and the direction they led.
"Well now we know why separating our magic didn't split us up our body is holding itself together to keep the baby safe" Twilight muttered as she came out of the shock she had been given.
"Guess I should give twilight the news now. After all with this news she will have to know now. Looks like there will be cousins in the immediate future of this family" said cadence smiling to twilight.
"The royal family is getting two new additions?! Well technically three when Chrysalis marries twilight whoo Nelly talk about news for the ages." Said Applejack with a whistle.
"Technically your part of that Applejack you made twilight a honorary apple remember? I looked through old apple traditions and clan laws when pinkie pie was thought to be part of your family. According to clan law you adopted twilight as your cousin in bond. I had Granny Smith confirm it when I asked her" said rainbow dash giving the farmer a look.
"Wait how did you both find out about apple pie? That mare was the royal Baker twenty years before Luna's timeout on the moon. Her son's had an infamous row about what to do with their father's farm. Quartz was trying to set up a rock quarry to provide repairs to it but jhon Appleseed misunderstood it as replacing the farm itself. Their family feud lasted nearly two centuries before it stopped and by then the apple and pie clans had been well underway founded by the brothers. By then both clans forgot their respective founder was related to the other. The head of the apple clan was actually in charge of agriculture and this was granted a title of Baron who is charged with keeping the nation fed. The pies though were the architects and were titled Baron as well in charge of building homes for the nation. If it wasn't for the fact your the owner of the farm here Applejack instead of big Mac he would have been the current Baron or in your case baroness once Granny Smith retired. You both can say your clan sisters and from what I'm seeing of the thrones here you are already fulfilling that role your clan has done and same with pinkie" said Celestia making them drop their jaws.
"We were looking up my family tree but that wasn't the ancestor we mistook for the relation turned out it was a coffee stain that covered a name and we didn't find the connection. Guess we missed the obvious with the name of apple pie. So sister clans. Huh who'd have thought" said Applejack wide eyes.
Rarity who had woken by now giggled. "Well at least you won't have to change the way you speak as head of agriculture for a noble dear its expected that those nobles have a down to earth tone as it shows they are reliable. And usually do a very good job at what they do." she said.
"Well that's something at least i can speak manehatten like but it is hard to keep that kind of voice up. And pinkie looks like our family is connected we just were not looking at the right place" said applejack.
"That brings up something i noticed a bit here seeing as it now seems that four out of the six of you seem versed in politics now but twilight doesn't have her own form of royal guard. Well in the usual sense. In fact this castle is the least defended besides the now restored castle in the everfree forest. Rainbow dash has shown a tendency for defense at least in the past and does act as a drill Sargent when needed so why not make her captain of twilight's guard after giving her some royal guard training if im remembering twilight's memories correctly the wonderbolts are considered a extension of the royal guard as the pegasus division and luna's shadowbolts were the nocturnal equivalent. And they need to have some military training as a requirement right?" said chrysalis.
"Oh yeah that's right. And who better to be a captain of the guard then the element of loyalty. And fluttershy is by now well known to be able to tame the creatures of the everfree seeing as she tamed a cockatrice before" said pinkie.
"And a manticore before that. So she is in a way suited as a baroness of the forest in this case the five of you act as twilight's court and help her run her kingdom" said luna remembering that.
"And seeing as me and Twilight are going to get married once we separate and the baby is born i'll see if some changelings can fill out the role of royal guards. And i have by now seen the size of this place. It will be needed just to prevent someone getting lost. Twilight needs to be able to find her way here as well" said chrysalis.
"We also need to figure out what side effects such a huge merger will have on twilight long term. Empathy is a given since your still able to sense emotions" said celestia.
"Looks like we just have to get used to this for a while. Oh and celestia look up some old laws from platinum's time. Starlight glimmer reinvented a spell to remove cutie marks and there was a reason that spell became forbidden. Long term under the spell creates depression of a scale that drives a pony to suicide. By taking away the pony's special talent they take away that pony's will to live and can cause mental scars. Im surprised fluttershy wasn't affected at all when the spell was casted on her. The use of that spell is punishable with a life sentence of having their magic bound." said chrysalis.
The solar princess nodded in understanding and with that the meeting ended with Fluttershy surprised at suddenly being a noble and of the one place that is truly wild.
A week after finding out their merged form was pregnant Twilight decided to inform her parents of the situation by inviting them over about some news. It had taken Chrysalis a while to help it sink in that yes they were going to be parents and that they were going to be aunts. At the moment the castle was being set up for the arrival of Twilight's parents.
Weaver was a big help in keeping Twilight's stress down. The changeling nurse was like all changelings emphatic but hers was geared a lot more to therapy and keeping her charges calm if they have a history of breakdowns. Which meant Chrysalis had to help Twilight go through her issues as they found out the first time they fell asleep that they also shared dreams thankfully in separate bodies. Weaver was not only the hive's medical doctor but also worked as a therapist when undercover. Her job made her vital to the hive and the only changeling able to order Chrysalis around on matters of her health.
So after getting the castle ready Twilight wondered how this was going to turn out. Thankfully Pinkie Pie was very helpful setting up the castle even if Weaver had a stern talking to with the party cannon. Apparently, after the wedding, her workload had increased for months after the cannon was used on the changelings traumatizing most with a fear of any canon which when something similar to a cannon goes off every ling in the area was forced unconscious from the fear. The scolding had the side effect of showing that changelings were much like ponies and can have that kind of fear. But to cripple the hive in such a way would take years before they could fix the situation.
Apparently, Chrysalis took three-quarters of the hive that day and each of them sans Chrysalis had been hit by the party cannon and thus gained that fear. Only the medical changelings were unscathed. And seeing as Twilight was going to marry Chrysalis once they separate this was her problem as well as a ruler of a nation. Twilight resolved to ask Luna for lessons on dream-walking to help with that later and felt Chrysalis feel the approval of the decision. After all, this was a matter of the mind. Sitting at her throne Twilight knew her parents Nightlight and Twilight Velvet was heading up the castle path now.
This was going to be a long conversation Twilight could feel it. At least she had Chrysalis with her through it. Seeing each other's memories had made both able to know each other better than themselves. Which brought a lot of confusion at first but now they couldn't imagine not having the other around they knew each other's worst secrets and fears and accepted them.
Taking a deep breath Twilight and chrysalis knew this was going to be an uphill battle as twilight had a fear of her parents disowning her if this didn't go the way she felt it would.
Eventually her parents entered the throne room and both stumbled on seeing twilight but actually calmed her by being worried parents. One recap of what happened later both unicorns took a moment to think.
"Well I'm going to be honest twilight this is a lot to take in. I mean chrysalis the same changeling who took cadance's place and impersonate her, nearly ruined the wedding of our son, and tried to take over equestria is now merged with you and as a result your going to be parents. Are you sure she's changed?" Asked nightlight.
"Couldn't really be helped. We ended up sharing memories of each others lives when asleep. Honestly we both know each other better than ourselves now. Plus apparently we both have been helping each other with some issues brought on by our respective upbringing. Weaver is our nurse on the changeling side while nurse red heart is our nurse on the pony side. We wanted to make sure our child is going to be alright. She will be the first of a new race in equestria so there is a lot of worry there about raising her but twilight has assured me that we can do it." Chrysalis said shrugging their shoulders.
"It helps shining and cadence forgive her for the wedding we still need a name for our daughter though. Changelings have a tendency for insect based names while I want her to also have some pony roots to her" twilight added.
"So far the best changeling name we can decide on is spinnerette as it can be shorten to spinner" chrysalis offered.
"That sounds like a good second half of her name so you need help on the first half. Well if she ends up as much a book worm as twilight and seeing as I'm a writer why not go with Story as her name." Velvet suggested.
"That means her name will be story spinner" nightlight mused.
"Story spinnerette? It does have a unique ring to it" chrysalis said a smile growing on their face.
"So guess until you figure out how to separate the wedding is going to be on hold" asked velvet.
"We figured out that the baby is what's keeping us merged after we figured out how to separate our magic. Our body is doing it to keep the baby safe so we won't be unlikely to unfuse until after the baby is born. Though just in case I'm working on a safe version of this fusion as a spell just in case of emergencies. One where anyone can use it not just unicorns and changelings with alicorns. I'm also adding a failsafe so the result won't get in our situation it depends on the people using it" twilight informed.
"Bit of a last resort kind of thing and will need absolute trust to work. After this twilight and I are completely sure we can't harm the other I think even separate we now share a bond that's soul deep" chrysalis added.
"So what now are you both going to just stay inside and not let anyone see you?" Velvet asked knowing her daughter.
"Right you don't live in ponyvile the townsfolk have a habit of stampeding when startled and they panic way to much at the slightest thing. So much chaos I'm not surprised discord moved in after he reformed. He really loves the place" chrysalis said shuddering. Twilights memories gave her a insight to the town which will help her when they get used to being married.
"And one look at us and we might see a flash mob as a result. I'm worried they might try to run us out of town" Twilight added.
"Looks like if I'm going to be here for six months more I can try and fix that problem because while ponies are naturally skittish these folks take it to extremes which means therapy sessions" weaver groused.
"To be fair they are right up to the ever free so they do have a reason for that" twilight admitted.
"Maybe if we keep some of the changelings as guards to keep the dangers of the forest in they will calm down. With our empathy we can act as a early warning. And since fluttershy was deemed baroness of the forest I had some changelings tutor her on the politic side while she is busy making the ever free a nature reserve and hired that zebra friend of yours as a employee to keep studying the forest and act as a guide of the woods" chrysalis said as a possible solution.
"Yes and that means you have to confront this issue before ponies start wondering where you are. Honey your a Princess you can't hide in fear forever as you still need to hold court" nightlight said giving twilight a look.
"Right guess I'm being a bit silly or some of both our paranoia bled out into me. That or its the mood swings from being pregnant" twilight said sheepishly.
"Definitely the mood swings your mother here kept thinking she was on a deadline when she had you when it was just her stressing out over nothing" nightlight said amused.
"That explains where I get my love of books" twilight deadpanned.
Velvet pouted as she blushed.
"Night your getting the couch for that" she told her husband.
"Hey it helped calm down twilight and I'm sure chrysalis is finding this funny so its worth it." Nightlight said giving his wife a smirk.
"Now I see where shining got his sense of humor if he grew up around these two" chrysalis giggled confirming nightlights statement.
"Right guess its time to let the town know what happened and hope they don't over react. Its already a bit of a shock just seeing this body for the first time... Which now makes me wonder what story is going to look like when she's born" twilight said.
