She and Twilight were at Carousel Boutique, the upstairs floor. Rarity had all of her fabrics out, organized by color, which next to Twilight placed down a stack of books. "It's no problem, Rarity!" said Twilight, making sure the book tower wasn't going to topple over at a moment's notice. "After all, what are friends for?" Rarity smiled, and used her magic to bring over a ponnequin into the center of all the fabrics. "By the way," said Twilight, "Who exactly are you making this dress for? They must be a really important pony for you to be this picky about the colors." "Just the most important, royal pony in all of Equestria!" said Rarity. "So... Princess Celestia? That's great, Rarity! No wonder you want to be so specific if it's a custom-made dress for her!" "Yes, it's for the Princess..." she said with a small smile. "So what colors were you thinking? Some to match her coat, or maybe her mane?" "Hm..." Rarity paused to think. "I'd like some to match her mane colors. Specifically the blue and purple in her mane. And maybe the pink, too." Twilight nodded, and pulled over one of the books with her magic. She flipped through it, before stopping at one of the pages, and holding the book up to Rarity with her magic. "Okay, the blue part in Celestia's mane is cerulean, so you'll probably want to chose something that's a shade darker or two." Cerulean Rarity's eyes flicked over to her blue fabrics, then back to the color shown in Twilight's book. "Does your book have any darker shades of blue?" asked Rarity. "I'm going for a certain style." "Oh?" asked Twilight. "How much darker were you thinking?" Rarity walked over to Twilight, and looked over the book. She leaned up gently against Twilight while she looked at the colors in the book, before pointing at one. "I think that liberty works best." Liberty "But liberty has much more purple in it than cerulean." said Twilight. "Are you sure you want to use it?" "It will be just perfect for the sleeves!" said Rarity with a smile. "Well, you are the expert when it comes to fashion." She looked over at the fabrics, and carefully pulled out a swatch that was liberty-colored with her magic. "Where do you want me to put it?" "Just by the ponnequin, darling." Twilight placed the fabric down by the ponnequin, and turned back towards Rarity with a smile. "So what color next? Pink?" Rarity gave a mock gasp. "Why, Twilight, can you read my mind?" She giggled, and picked up a different book with her magic. Twilight sat down, as she didn't feel the need to remain standing, and Rarity also sat down next to her. Her mane was tickling Twilight's ear, but she didn't comment on it. "The pink portion of her mane is orchid." stated Twilight. "What do you think of it? Want something darker?" Orchid "A brighter color would work better." said Rarity, not noticing Twilight's smile as she carefully toyed with her mane. "How about this?" She flipped back two pages in the book. "Process magenta is much brighter than orchid." Process Magenta "Are you sure you aren't reading my mind?" asked Rarity. "It's the perfect color! I'll use it for the collar!" Twilight easily spotted the process magenta fabric, and set it down on top of the liberty fabric. "Purple next?" she asked. "Absolutely!" said Rarity, batting her eyes once. After just a few seconds, Twilight found the next color she was looking for. "Tropical indigo." Tropical Indigo "Perfect." declared Rarity. "I want to use that exact color as trim for the collar." "I can't wait to see your dress after you finish it." Twilight placed the tropical indigo fabric on top of the process magenta. "It's interesting to think of the differences of the dress that I think you're going to make, as opposed to the one you're actually going to make." "Unless we're thinking of the same dress!" She giggled for the second time. "Statistically, that's near impossible, but there's nothing to say that we aren't. Need any more fabric colors? Like one for the skirt, perhaps?" Rarity gave an exaggerated gasp. "The skirt! I nearly forgot that I still need a fabric for it! It must be tha you distracted me with your intellect!" The tiniest hint of pink showed on Twilight's cheeks. "Oh?" "That, and your clever choice of words, darling! Picked out so meticulously from your large vocabulary! Twilight, you've managed to distract me so!" She put up her hoof to emphasize the point. "How shall I ever finish making this dress?" "Maybe just some color suggestions will help you out." said Twilight with a smile. "How about eminence?" Eminence "Yes!" cried Rarity, getting to her hooves. "The color eminence shall be the final piece in the dress I make! It is like that of perfect grapes! A shining violet! The night sky when there are no cloud in the way! And... And..." "The color of my eyes?" suggested Twilight with a playful gleam in her eyes. "Of course! Like that of your deep, beautiful eyes that shine with your intelligence and wit!" She paused. "Did I just say that out loud?" Twilight couldn't help but laugh. "Oh, Rarity, I think you've been reading a few too many romance novels." Her face fell as she turned towards Twilight. "What? Does that mean you think I'm just pretendin-" "Because you've never been more obvious with your flirting!" That stunned Rarity. "Wh- Huh?" Twilight looked up at Rarity with a bright smile, her eminence eyes sparkling in the light. "I mean, you invited me over to make a special dress but didn't even ask for Spike's usual help! And you keep batting your eyes at me and fixing your mane." Rarity quickly brought her hoof down and stopped toying with her mane once again. "Plus, it became obvious that you were making this dress for me considering the color choices. Also, you purposely didn't specify which Princess your were making the dress for." She stood up and walked over to Rarity. "You could have just told me why you wanted me to come over." "But I wanted the dress to be a surprise! You would walk in, and I would reveal it, and you would gasp in awe when you realized that it was for you! Then I would walk over slowly and- goodness, this is so cliché!" "It may be cliché, but you've still added your own flair, Rarity." Twilight gently nuzzled her cheek. "But I think you forgot about the last cliché." "Oh?" She smiled. "The part where you look deep into my eminence eyes while I look into your midnight blue ones and we speak softly to each other..." Midnight Blue "And then?" asked Rarity softly. "You're the romance expert." said Twilight, just as softly. "You tell me what happens next." She nodded, and batted her eyes once again. "I lean in slowly until my voice is barely a whisper..." She mimicked what she was saying. "And you listen carefully as I tell you that you're the most beautiful pony in all of Equestria. And you blush deeply in shock, and I lean back out for our eyes to meet once more..." Twilight batted her eyes, her blush becoming more obvious. "And then?" "The most cliché thing possible happens as we move closer..." Quick as a flash of light, the two ponies kissed. Lavender and white. Indigo and dark indigo. Process magenta and NCS blue. Eminence and midnight. The colors sparkled and shimmered in their eyes as they gently closed, leaving the last color seen still shining brightly in their minds. Gleaming eyes with the same vision for a dress.
