> Frost Bite > by Bringiton6611 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Alone > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A lone changeling is lost in the snow. Or, at least she was pretty sure she was lost. She doesn't exactly have a map. Plus, the storm was making it very hard to see her hole-filled hoofs in front of her face. She didn't really care if half of her body was body was numb. She had to get going. She needed to be out here, and she wanted to as well. She wanted to be free of the cage that her old life had put her in. She wanted a new life, instead of feeling like some trapped animal. She needed to be out here to get away from those who wouldn't let her go. Those who believed that the hive life was better then whatever was out here. That it was better then rotting in a cage in a dungeon in Cantorlot. What a joke. She would've preferred to be the dungeon rather than doing the things she did. She did horrible things to so many... so many innocent ponies were drained because of what she couldn't do. But not anymore. She was strong enough NOW to do something, but it was far to late to save all the ponies who lives were ruined. That was why she was out here. To help anypony that needed it. Even if that meant betraying her kind for what she believed in, then so be it. That's why she left her hive. It was far too late to go back now, especially with what she did. Killing her would be a mercy after what she did to get out. No doubt they're looking for her right now. She couldn't let them find her. She couldn't let HER find her. Or else... she would... She did her best to push those thoughts away, to the back of the vault in her mind. She'll probably freeze to death before anyling would find her. Or anypony for that matter. But why is she out here? In the middle of one of the coldest snow storm to sweep across Equestria in years? In the middle of nowhere? Yes, she wanted and needed to be out here, but there was another reason. During one of her missions when she was still with her hive, but was starting to doubt her queen, she overheard two ponies talking, or rather arguing, about what the princess, Princess Celestia, had apparently done. Apparently, she stated that there was a changeling that was trapped in Cantorlot AFTER the shield had been recast. Because of the shield, she was very close to death when a guard found her. She was treated, and despite all odd, managed to live, but with a price. She had lost sight in her left eye, and her horn was broken. After she was deemed well enough, she was placed in a small holding cell for a few weeks. And the same guard that had found her in the first place came back. As the weeks went on, they grew closer. Then one day, a patrolling guard caught them kissing though the bars. He immeniditly went to the princess and told her what he had witnessed. He accused the changeling of brain-washing the guard and was using him as a means of escape. Then Celestia went down to the cells to see for her self. Sure enough, there they were, still kissing each other. The guard caught up with her, and was about to take action when Celestia stopped him. The guard wanted to know why the princess was allowing the changeling to use her magic on his fellow guard. Her answer was pointing to the broken horn. She couldn't use magic, so how could she be brain-washing him? Celestia used some as a example that not every single changeling was evil. She released the changeling from the cell, and told her that she was free to go. But she didn't want to go. So she stayed there with the guard, living with him. To her knowledge, she might still be in Cantorlot. She should be. Not like it would matter. She already knew she wasn't going to make it there. Not with this kind of cold. Her chattering teeth and the howling wing was all she could hear. The pure white snow was all she could see. The snow hitting her body like rocks was all she could feel. This storm was going to kill her. And... And she knew it. But she didn't care. As far as she was concerned, this was what she deserved for not helping the ponies. She was ready to die. Eventually, the cold proved to be to much as her legs gave out from under her, causing her to fall face first in the cold snow. She didn't care. Hell, she could barley feel it. Almost all of her body was numb from the cold, so if she could be thankful for anything, it would be for that. The frost bite. And you want to know some irony? Her name was Frost Bite. How or what she had done to earn that name, she had no clue. It's funny how your own name can be slowly killing you. As she lay there, the snow was starting to cover her, like a warm blanket. She started to think. About of lot of things. Mostly about what she had done. What she had left behind... WHO she had left behind. Friends who agreed with her about her views, her siblings,... her parents. Her REAL birth parents. Oh hives... she can't die like this! She was doing this for them! She had to get up! But alas, and snow had taken its toll on her body. She couldn't feel her hind legs at all now. Moving would be hopeless. Even if she were to drag herself, she wouldn't have the strength to do so. She cursed her self for letting her self lay down. And for letting herself stay down. No matter how hard she tried, she wouldn't be able to get up. She was going to die. In the middle of nowhere. Alone. Alone. The fact that she was going to die alone made her eyes start to water. She didn't want to die, not like this. As she laid there, crying in the snow, she could feel her body start to shut down. Her vision started to blur. This only made her cry harder. Then she saw something coming toward her. Something coming straight toward her. At first, she started to panic, thinking that this was changeling from her hive. But it vanished when she saw the amour. It was a royal guard. The guard was soon right next to her, poking her, looking for anything that could tell him if she was alive. He lowered his head down to her mouth. His eyes widened when he heard breathing. "Hey? Can you hear me?" Yes, she could. But she could not find the strength to speak. She DID however, find the strength to crack her eyes open. She was losing consciousness fast. He took notice. "Hey. Stay with me. Your going to be fine." With that, she was out like a light. But would she wake up? Was she going to be fine? Even if she wasn't going to wake up, she knows now that she won't be alone.
