> Spike's Big Day (In the Changeling Kingdom) > by RummyKun > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > |~Prologue~| > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a calm and cool Friday night. The calm sound of crickets chirping away softly filled the atmosphere. The sound of steps soon came, trudging in the thin layer of snow. A young purple dragon was walking down the streets of Ponyville as he carried a small bag on his back. He raised his claw and scratched the side of his head. Soon, the illumination of the lamps outside Princess Twilight's castle came into his peripheral view. He smiled as he reached up and gripped the door handle, pulling it open. The drake was greeted by a smiling alicorn who pulled him into a hug. She spoke up. “Thank you for running those errands for me, Spike.” Her horn lit up as she took the bag from him, lightening his weight. “No problem, Twilight.” He smiled as he stretched his little body. “You should get some rest; you’ll need it for when we board the train at sunrise.” “Wait, did you say train?” Spike asked with a hint of surprise. “Well yeah, we’re going to leave tomorrow morning to the new changeling kingdom.” “Oh cool!” The purple drake smiled brightly. “Yep, and we’ll be there for a full week, so make sure you have everything you need. If you want I can make you a checklist.” “That’s okay, I can do it.” Spike went up to his room and grabbed a bunch of comic books, a scarf, and some paper with quills. ‘I finally get to see Thorax again! I can’t believe it’s been nine whole weeks!’ He became incredibly giddy with every exciting thought of him getting to hang out with Thorax. Once he had his suitcase packed, he lay back in his bed and stared up at the ceiling. He kept going over all of the possibilities that he and Thorax could do together. He was incredibly excited with each and every thought. Before Spike knew it, the clock struck midnight. Once he saw the time, he panicked. The drake did not want to be too tired to spend time with his best friend. He turned out the light by his bedside and clamped his little eyes tight. Eventually, the tiny dragon drifted off into a deep slumber. His dreams were very cheerful and bright that night, all throughout he saw Thorax over and over and over. It must have been one of the best dreams he had ever dreamt. At the time, he wanted nothing to do with waking up. His cheeks began to flush a bit, getting pinker by the minute. Drool started to drip out of his mouth as he kissed his pillow multiple times. The sun staggered up into the horizon, sending the light of day all throughout the town. Hoofsteps were heard running up the steps of the castle, getting louder as time passed. Out of nowhere, the doors swung open and the princess yelled. “Spike, wake up!” She yelled over to the sleeping little dragon. He woke up in a panicked sweat from the sudden shout. He panted lightly, looking up to see his caretaker. “Oh, is it time to go already?!” Spike jumped up out of his bed. “That’s right, we have to be at the train station in 37 minutes to make the train, so get up.” Twilight smiled at him with a big toothy grin. > |Part 1| > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The train arrived in Ponyville as it slowed to a stop. The only two beings that were waiting on said locomotive picked up their luggage and boarded. The train was not nearly as large as the usual one that arrives here. In fact, this train only had one singular train car for holding ponies. The reason for this is because traveling to the New Changeling Kingdom was not a very popular trip, especially not now. This was the very first expedition between Ponyville and the aforementioned kingdom. Spike, now able to see out the windows due to his recent growth in height, looked at the beautiful and lush landscapes they passed on the train ride. Several blooming fields of various flowers, trees, and bushes were seen. The sun light bounced off of the small river, making it appear as the whole area was sparkling. It was an awe inspiring sight to behold. The purple dragon could not help but feel happy looking at the beautiful flora. He then thought to himself: “I wonder if I could take Thorax here sometime… Would he like this place? Does he like nature? How do I know if this is the best spot to take him?” Spike took a brief pause. “Maybe I’ll just ask him what he likes, and maybe I can surprise him with this.” He smiled to himself. Twilight looked at Spike’s display of various facial expressions; she giggled to herself. “So Spike, I hear that Thorax has a room right next to his,” She smirked. “I wonder if you’ll be able to stay in that room.” “He does?” Spike’s smile became several times larger. “That sounds AWESOME!” Twilight smiled, she knew how happy this made him. She may not have known what Spike really felt for Thorax, but she did know how giddy all this talk of Thorax made Spike. It made her glad to see just how much this trip means to her most valuable assistant, no, her closest friend. After several hours pass by, the pair was within Changeling territory. The two looked out the window of the train, shock on their faces. Instead of the vast empty and barren land that they remember from previously being here, they were greeted with a large, beautiful village surrounding a huge central hive. The houses were each full of color and built with several different unique designs. They arrived at the station. Twilight and Spike slowly made their way off the train and turned around before taking a long look at the completely remade kingdom. Their mouths hung open and their eyes widened. Spike slowly went from a look of shock to a look of excitement. “It’s so different… It’s so new!” The purple dragon exclaimed as he observed each and every house within his field of view. “Welcome princess Twilight Sparkle and Sir Spike the dragon.” A changeling guard said as he bowed to the pony and reptile in front of him. "We are very pleased that you have decided to come all this way." A familiar voice said. The two looked over and notice that the guard was not alone. The voice that they recognized undeniably belonged to the one right beside him. That changeling being none other than Thorax. > |Part 2| > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The little purple dragon’s eyes lit up as he saw who the voice belonged to. He could not help but smile up at the new king of the changelings, Thorax. Thorax also began to smile as he looked down at his first and greatest friend, Spike. “Well look at that,” Thorax began, “My favorite dragon seems to be much taller than before.” Spike replied. “Heh, well it HAS been a while.” He started to approach the changeling king and hugged him. Thorax hugged back, smiling even more now that he has his best buddy for a whole week. The two of them embraced for over a minute before being interrupted by a fellow changeling. “Sir, we need to bring our guests to the main hive. The weather will get much worse soon.” “Alright.” Thorax replied. He let go of Spike and looked over at Twilight. He nodded and turned around, and now he began to guide his visitors to the hive. They passed many different buildings; all of them were unique and had different shapes and colors. Some houses had beautiful flowers growing in front of them. Spike looked around in awe from the beautiful landscape they walked through. A few birds flew overhead as they chirp away. It was so different seeing the Changeling Kingdom with a lot of color and beauty. Last time they were there it was all destroyed and horrible, but this was completely different. “So much has changed here.” Spike said as they got closer to the main hive. “I can’t even tell we’re in the same place we were back when Chrysalis captured us.” “Well, I didn’t want to keep the place in shambles.” Thorax stated. “I decided that we should all strive to make the entire kingdom strong and beautiful, and to put the love we once wanted to take into the care we have for our home.” “This place is so fascinating. I should study the entire flora here someday.” Twilight said as she admired the scenery that was quite different to what she had seen before. Spike snickered to himself from Twilight going into absolute nerd mode as they finally made it to the hive. The guards held open the strange looking doors as they were presented with a much more organized and much larger structure. Thorax held up his forehoof and smiled. “Welcome to the central hive!” Twilight and Spike looked around at all the different rooms and hallways, wondering where they would end up. “Twilight, Spike, allow me to take you to your rooms.” Thorax said as he took them upstairs and into the eastern hallway. They trotted down a very nicely decorated corridor until they reached a set of rooms. “On the left we have Princess Twilight Sparkle’s room.” A guard said as he opened the door. “And on the right we have King Thorax and Spike’s room.” “I get to share Thorax’s room?” Spike gave a toothy grin as he jumped in place like Pinkie Pie in a cardboard box. “Yes you do, or if you don’t want to I can get you a room to yours-” Thorax was cut off by Spike. “No, I’m fine with sharing a room.” Spike said, hardly able to contain his excitement. A loud boom could be heard outside as the thunderstorm began. Lightning sent a wave of light through the windows, and surprised the group. “Well, sorry about the weather. I didn’t know it would get like this on the first day.” “It’s alright, Thorax.” Twilight pat his back. “We can always take that tour of the Kingdom tomorrow.” “Yeah, and we still get to see you.” Spike added. “Thanks guys, I’m glad you two came here.” Thorax returned to smiling. “Why don’t I let you two unpack?” “Alright.” Twilight and Spike replied in unison. > | Part 3 | > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike opened the door and walked in, looking around. It was almost like the old hive, but a lot more colorful and well furnished. The floor was close to the way it looked before, and the walls were still round in shape, but it was not quite as he pictured it would look rebuilt. This did not bother him though, he had things to unpack. Spike grabbed his hefty bag and placed it on the side table. He took out a handful of various, brightly colored gems. After taking one and putting it in his mouth, he set the rest in a container within the drawer he was given. That was not all. The not so little drake had also brought a stack of new comics that he could read while alone. The king returned to his chambers after close to an hour. He closed the door and plopped down on his bed, tired from all the duties he had to do in preparation for the visit. He felt very accomplished after putting multiple long hours into decorating the interior of the rebuilt and revamped hive. "You look tired," Spike got onto the bed and sat next to the bug-like ruler. "Well I wanted things to look good. I wasn't gonna make you guys come here with the hive in a mess." "Aww, thanks Thorax," Spike smiled and laid on his back. The two of them relaxed, enjoying each other's company in silence. The storm outside felt oddly calming to them. It was almost as if the rain was a song and the clouds were wrapping them in a comfortable blanket. The thunder was no longer a loud boom, but a soft hum in their heads. Eventually, both of them had fallen asleep. Light snoring was coming from the purple dragon's nose as he dreamt of rare delicious gemstones. Giant emeralds glistened as he wrapped his arms around it, slowly eating it. Outside of the dream, Spike was holding a pillow close, and sinking his teeth into it. Meanwhile, Thorax began tossing in his sleep. He was having a nightmare. A look of worry was spread across his face and his body shivered. Though Spike still slept, something made him let go of the pillow. He held Thorax close, causing him to slowly stop shivering. It was as if Spike was protecting him from all that anxiety and worry he had bottled up. The two would not move, staying in the warm embrace of the other. The changeling king's cheeks started blushing bright pink. He may not have consciously known what was happening in the real world, but he subconsciously knew that whatever was happening, was helping him calm down. It was as if his horrid nightmare was tamed by a simple lullaby. After a good night's rest, Spike woke up. He let out a quiet yawn and let his eyes adjust. He froze upon seeing Thorax right up close. He had no idea intimate they were in space. The dragon's heart started to beat much quicker. He eased his way back and tried to slip out of bed without waking his roommate. His first foot made it onto the cold ground under him, followed by the other. Once he was half way off, Thorax stirred in the bed. Spike quickly got out of bed and dropped to the floor before Thorax even had a chance of seeing him. His face was deep red and his heart was still pounding. 'Why was it pounding?' Spike thought to himself as he tried to calm himself. Did he actually feel something when he was so close to those beautiful changeling lips, those ellegant cheeks, that adorable face? Spike once again froze and had a realization: 'Oh Celestia, I'm in love with him.'
