Spike writes poems about his life with Twilight and his friends, hoping to meet a mysterious poem writer through his own poetry writing. These are a few of his new poems about his friends, his life, and his secret admirer.

You might want to read the first anthology to get what's going on or at least the epilogue. Anyways, this time I intend to write more than one poem back to Spike. Going to warn you some of these poems are a bit dark. That's cause I've been going through some stressful times lately and dark stuff just came more easily. Don't worry, I'm fine.

Updates might be highly irregular though.

Preface to Zephyr Spark

View Online

I wish I knew what you looked like as you wrote your poem to me
Your face, your voice, your body hunched over a desk

I wish I knew where you are at this very moment
So I could burst through the door and embrace you like a brother

I wish I knew why you idolize me so much
Making me a king in your world.

I wish I knew when our paths will cross again
Or if they ever will.

I wish I knew who you are, Zephyr Spark.
And I hope that in writing more poems

I might breach the boundaries separating us once more
And thank you for everything you said to me.

I hope that in writing once more
Letting the words tumble from my heart unto the page

I hope that you will speak to me again.

Tribute to Ponyville

View Online

See the sun rise across Ponyville
Feel Ponyville wake from her slumber
Watch her ponies spring to life
Smell the chocolate of Sugar Cube Corner
Taste the sweet apple cider
Hear the birds twit-tweet-twitter

the ponies saying hello

Nice to see you

Take Care

I love you.
When she closes her eyes and falls asleep,
Ponies turn in for the night
Her heart still beats with warmth

The crickets chirp their violins

The stars harmonize their ancient song

Life illuminates the dark

Makes it home.
See the leaves fall red and orange from the trees
The chill starts in the air
The harvest at Sweet Apple Acres

With friends and family near

Running through the leaves

As they ignite

Her fireworks.
Watch her drizzle snow from the warmth of a window
Children laughing as they bound across the frost
Spending time together in Ponyville’s confetti

Watching by the heat of a fire with a blanket

Draped around your shoulders like a hug

As friends gather.

Becoming brothers and sisters.
The frost melts and life begins anew in spring
Birds sing greetings as they return from their migration
Ponyville brings us closer together than we were

Melting the boundaries between friend and family

Between neighbor and acquaintance

To make us anew as the whole

Of her heart.
Feel Ponyville’s rays of heat from the cool of a pool
Soak it in as your friends splash you with water
Close your eyes and lounge in a chair

Where heat does not burn

Each day comes and goes

We are still friends who bask

In Ponyville’s wonders.
See Ponyville.
There’s no place like it.
With an undivided, immutable fellowship at her heart

Through day and night

And fall and winter and spring and summer

Her heart remains whole and we

Remain one.

Winter is the Warmest Time

When the window cracks with ice
When vapor forms at every breath
That is the warmest time.
We sit together by the fire
Neath a quilted cloud of dreams
And watch the snow fall
Together by the fire.

Living with a Legend

Twilight is my solid ground. Her soil maintains all creatures.
As her tree, I can never match her generosity.
Any kindness you see in me
All of it is a reflection
of her kindness.
Twilight is my rain. Her gentle storms fill me with her love.
As her forest, I can never match her love.
Any love you see in me
All of it is a reflection
of her love.
Twilight is my sun. Her light alone sustains everything I see.
As her moon, I can never match her shine.
Any greatness you see in me
All of it is a reflection
of her light.
Twilight is my universe. Her powers extend eternally.
As her planet, I will never match her glory.
Any life you see in me
All of it is a reflection
of her life.

I'm in Love with the Muse

View Online

Her song makes my pen dance across the paper, causes sparks to flow from ink
Without her, poetry feels so empty and lifeless.
Without her, there is no fire to craft my words over the anvil.
So why does she always hide from me?
When the world beats down on me, she sometimes flees or gives a voice to my rage
Sometimes I wonder if she’s in love with someone else and spends every day with them when she’s not with me. Have I not appreciated her? Have I forgotten how to cherish her? Do my poems fail to meet her standards? Or have they ever been good at all?
I can’t own the muse. No one can. She’s free to come and go as she pleases.
She will inspire whoever is worthy of her. And then they are on their own; to now write the wonders she has shown them in the flickers of her eternal robes.
Every artist deserves to look upon her, to hold her only a moment
Before she bursts into blossoms and scatters to the wind
To fly where she wills.
If not to me, then to a better poet.
I have what she has shown me forever in my heart
And my heart moves my pen to write.

On Lines

View Online

A short line. A moment to pause. Reflect. Ponder.
A long line and on we go no time to stop no choice but to leap
into the next sentence without a chance to rest.

Did you enjoy your nap? Remember they will remember the last word
most of all. Did you get that? Did you feel that? Did you
rush to this line to see what comes next?

Well you might find
the meaning is lost
and waiting for you
to find her. As she
Arises slower than a sunrise.

Evil has a suit and tie
He can’t go to work a slob.
Evil works an eternal shift
At an office job.
Evil puts his brother on hold
No visits from out of town.
Evil misses his family very much
He’s always feeling down.
Evil has a thankless job
His salary comes in late.
Evil rubs his burning forehead
All he gets is hate.
Evil donates money to charity
Might as well keep up the act.
Evil looks out the window and cries.

Thorn

View Online

He calls me Thorn. And has since we were born.

No one knows about me. Not Celestia, not Luna, and certainly not Twilight.

He keeps me chained but sometimes will reach into the darkness

Into my domain where I haunt

My scythe reaps

My lion’s mane of knives

Stained crimson

He reaches out to touch me. If only a moment.

For I am the ink of his quill

That writes his deepest truths

Bleeds life into his dull words.

Does he fear me? I couldn’t say. Perhaps, he fears himself?

Or the wonders we could do

Together.

Keep your eyes pealed
How will I see?

Let freedom ring
She’ll leave a voice mail.

You could kill two birds with one stone.
You monster.

The apple doesn’t fall from the tree.
Thank gravity.

No one is an island.
Islands don’t whine about their lives.

There’s a diamond in the rough.
The dog ate it. It’s in the ruff.

You broke my heart.
You pay the medical bill.

He wears his heart on his sleeve.
Put that thing back where it belongs.

Fly away.
I’m not a bird.

He gave me puppy dog eyes.
… That’s all kinds of messed up.

If you’re blue
Try pink instead.

You can’t have your cake and eat it.
I’ve never understood that phrase. What else are you supposed to do with a cake?
Admire it from afar? It’s going to go bad eventually. Then you won’t be able to eat it at all.

Never Again

Don’t let them take me is what I said to her
—when I lost control and avarice ruled me.
I hurt so many ponies and lost their trust
That I never deserved.

When I lost control, let avarice rule me
I became the monster I never wanted to be, and lost
The person I never deserved
To be when I lost myself.

I became the monster that I always see in my nightmares. I lost
Everything important—my friends and family
That I never deserved back after
I failed to control myself.

Everything important—my friends, my family
I hurt them and should have lost their trust
—when I failed to control myself.
She said I won’t let them take you. So I won’t let it take me again.

Those you love.

You trudge away
back into the tunnel
where you belong
In life, with your friends.

To My Melancholy Friend

View Online

Why is writing about something happy so hard?
Is the muse in a perpetually bad mood?
Does her misery love the company of melancholy poets?
Is something inside of me inherently sad?
Does that thing move my pen’s blue ink?
Is the issue not that I am sad but that I am simply not happy?
Does my heart forget to smile and feel nothing?
Or is someone writing through me?
Is someone trying to use me to say how he feels?
Zephyr Spark, what’s wrong?
Why aren’t you happy right now?
How can I help you?

I’m fine, my friend.
Sometimes I just forget
I’ve been through hard times hundreds of times now.
I can take the institutions, the body aches, and the next step.
I can even take the stress, the soul hammering, and the lone.

I guess it’s a little sad
That my family is at home
While I’m here.
And that I get scared
Of things I can’t control.
And a bit disappointed
When tomorrow’s my birthday
And I can't be home.

The Director

View Online

What they have said is true. I was in his office. His favorite carried his special pen. His favorite two worked on their duet, his son went to middle school. Behind him there were play posters, dancing shoes, a trophy. Through the window students rehearsed. It was a musical. Crumpled letters were littering the floor to remind us that there are plenty of rain forests. Through the window blinds there was a black room and black curtains like a morgue. He had plans for plays, dances, musicals, leads, and a silver whistle on his table for calling the students. The students brought their passion, their voices, their bodies. There was a brief command to sing. His assistants scolded a student. There was some talk about giving other students a chance at the lead. The ensemble laughed in the black box. He told them to shut up, and marched to the theater. My heart said with sadness: you’re nothing. The director returned with a backpack used to carry homework. He poured many lips onto the tables. They were like shriveled pink daisies. There is only one way to say this. He grabbed his trophy, smashed it on the table, poured out more lips. They trembled with life. Don’t think you matter he said. As for the rest, I will take everything they have. And they will gladly give it. They’re tools. Some just have more value than others. He pushed the rest into the trashcan and held his trophy into the air. Marvelous, isn’t it? Few lips pressed to the floor could sing anymore. Few lips had dreams left to whisper.

Ponderings on Writing

View Online

You know what the hardest part about writing is?
I’m not sure.
I can’t say which part of it is the hardest;
Creating the writing, Editing the writing, Dealing with criticism, Keeping the feeling you had when writing, or just sitting down to make time to write.

You know what it means to be a writer?
I’m not sure.
I can’t say what is the essence of a writer;
Putting words onto a page in a meaningful order, Crafting a world and characters of your own, Wondering how much of yourself to reveal or hide in the writing, Springing back from any setback, Having knowledge of the craft, or reaching the right audience.

You know what?
I don’t know.
But that won’t stop me from writing;
Words and Stories are the way we make sense of the world, the way we experience our own adventures, and the way we connect to others.

Keep doing what feels right. The rest will fall in place.

The Snow Rose

The rose of snow stands above all other flowers and blooms an eternal spring.
I wish to hold her. But my hands are unworthy and guard thorns will sting.
I would take the pain just to caress her gentle petals, softer than snowflakes.
But I fear I would harm her. Or set her on fire and melt her like a reckless drake.
She would surely wilt if held tween my sharp claws.
Why was I not born a flower too? Why must I have paws?
Teach me to be gentle, teach me how to hold her, O kind green.
So I may kiss the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

Scorned

When she flirted with other stallions, it hurt but I tried not to mind.
She is a free mare, and I am just a dragon, rougher than a bear.
She is a sun. She belongs with the clouds in the sky.
I am a rock. I’m lucky when she grants me her shine.
No matter how I feel, she deserves to be happy
Even if that means living without me.

The Three Words

What are they?
Those special words?
Every lady delights,
Every man stutters,
Every creature needs
Else they decay?
Why struggle I?
I feel it.
Why not say?
I am afraid
She will reject
My heart’s confession
And break me.
Is she cruel?
No. Her kindness
Goes beyond understanding.
Is she vain?
No. She loves
Others above herself.
I cannot falter.
Time marches on
With or without
Me, so speak.
Heart. To say
Those Three Words.
I Love You.

our fates.
She withstands her pain and the pain of a nation

She pick us up when we fall, keeps us moving, and makes us

Should Equestria falter and lose her light, Applejack will bring us

When all else fails, look to Applejack.
And you’ll never lose your way.

Rainbow Dash's Greatest Feat

Rainbow Dash’s greatest feat is not her sonic rainboom,
Thunder breaking mountains, changing destinies
Was only the beginning.

Rainbow Dash’s greatest feat is not becoming the element of loyalty,
Freeing Princess Luna and bringing the day,
Is a small feat for her.

Rainbow Dash’s greatest feat is not risking her dreams for her friends,
Putting her morals before everything she’s wanted since she was a filly,
Does not capture her greatness.

Rainbow Dash’s greatest feat is not becoming a Wonder Bolt,
Struggling against bullies, never breaking down,
Is just a scribble in her life’s essay.

Rainbow Dash’s greatest feat is not saving Equestria,
Every town, creature, and pony owe her,
But she has done something more impressive.

Rainbow Dash’s greatest feat is surpassing possibility, overcoming all obstacles,
Proving every single day that when it comes to her greatness

Her voice is a birdsong by a running stream
Her face calms like a blissful stream,
She seems gentle as a mouse,
But hurt her friends in her house
And you will see her stream become a rapid, howling river
Crushing rocks that threaten her family to harmless slivers.
Beware for nature is not all gentle. She thunders with piercing storm clouds
When the trees need her rain. She blazes through the woods with an army of hounds
To punish those who threaten her loved ones.
She will even face a full-grown dragon.
There is no length she will not go for her friends. No fire titan nor stone beast
Could shake her resolve. She is a champion foes should never unleash.
Be wise. Be cautious. Be gentle. Be kind. Be warned.
For others, the delicate rose will rear her thorns.
We all see her caring for animals, the bears and the birds.
She is honeysweet, and sings many delightful words.
A forest fairy, a Queen of Kindness, a Queen of Might
Shines with natural, heavenly glow of an angel’s light.
To evildoers, do not test her. Do not show her your malevolence.
Those who hurt her friends may never receive her blessed benevolence.

Every time, I look at my finished work and try to smile.
The uneven surface is fine, the shine is still there.
But then I see the finished works of others
Their unblemished surfaces and inherent eloquence are overwhelming.
And make mine look childish
Now, I look at my work ashamed to fall so short.
To put my whole heart into breathing it to life
Only to find my heart is shallow, unfit for life.
But then someone told me I know what I felt.
The absorbing moments when I tempered the iron in the forge
When I cooled it in the gentle river
When I put my heart into my work
That craft, that process, that creation is my own experience that no one can steal.
My experience of creating art, meaningful to myself if no other, is still my experience.
No one sees the flaws of our work more than our own eyes
Some find smoothness where we see edges
Some hang on the wall what we would throw away.
So nothing we make is only flaws.
The mind we had when making, was true, ungraspable art.
Treasure it like a cloud of gold melting into the sunlit sky.

Why does everyone have to be so gosh darn tall?

Is it too much to ask everyone else to stop being giants?
Why can’t we be the same height?
Yeah, I know everybody’s special and blah blah,
But having to stand on my tiptoes to reach a bookshelf stinks.
And I bet banging your head on every door frame isn’t too fun either.
Can’t we all be similar heights? It’s not that we need to be fixed.
I’d love some adjustments. I doubt I’m the only one.

Birdsong after Rain Night

View Online

A string of chirps punctuated by a short vibrato that repeats every three seconds
A talk back and forth in short, single words
A distant echo of sounds farther away that can only be heard if listened to
The vibrato stops repeating the talks back and forth dominate
A sharp wind pipe toots and takes center stage
It replaces the vibrato with its own repetitions
A distant vibrato returns the sounds of the sharp windpipe
Then both fade into the chirps
A flat squawk barely pierces the talk back and forth
A high shrill yelp peters out
A whistle, the first I’ve heard all morning, is gone before I knew it was there
They chirp from east then to the west
Returning each call
A higher vibrato only once, then several minutes it repeats in regular tempo
It takes the stage of sound and dips updown updown updown updown in sixteenth notes
Then it takes longer to sound, but keeps going
The others speak in short staccato
This whistle continues long after I thought it would stop
Distant sounds batter the vibrato
But it remains the lead for now
A distant indignant whistle, a double quarter note
A soprano’s short half notes
Grow louder and louder and more and more
They talk back and forth amidst the vibrato and begin their crescendo
The vibrato remains strong as the multitude of voices begin to echo
But then dims and fades completely from ear a moment, and now takes place in the distant chorus amidst the talks back and forth
A chorus of dissonant sound that crescendos every minute and decrescendos with subtlety that eludes mortal ear
Adding a new voice to complete their complete inharmonious harmony
They never stop their eternal symphony

I lost my train of thought.
It flew off the tracks, crashed into a mountain, and exploded. I’ve got to wait for the ten o’clock train now.

He got into the conversation
Between the “stop” and the “eavesdropping.” Now he lives there with a steady job and a wife and three kids.

Less is more
He is more interesting than most people I know.

Curiosity killed the cat.
She’s being tried for animal abuse.

You’re pulling my leg.
Please let go. I need that to walk.

The roller coaster of emotions
Broke down and is undergoing repairs.
Doesn’t matter anyways, I’m too short to ride it.

I hit the nail on the head.
It cried. Its parents came and beat me up for roughhousing.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
Well, that food’s burnt.

Your words are crystal clear.
They shine really bright but I can see right through them.
I’m a dragon and I don’t want to eat these crystals.

When life gives you lemons,
That’s communism. Otherwise, they’ll expect you to make lemonade and then life will sell off your lemonade for her own profit and give you less than 5% of the earnings. You really shouldn’t have started a lemonade stand with life.

A Tale of Chivalry

View Online

The little princess gazed from the lonely, stony tower to the lonely, barren plain below. Trapped within the stone prison, she stared out the window to the emptiness, praying for the arrival of a hero, of her hero. When he failed to approach, she turned away from the window, face stained with tears. A blaring trumpet shook the land, rekindling her hope. The princess’ lovely eyes beheld her loyal knight clad in armor, standing boldly before the tower, challenging his foolish enemies who dared to steal his lady. As the villainous scum surged towards him like a malevolent flood, he placed the trumpet back on his back and drew his sword and shield with steadfast determination. Waves of enemies fell before his noble might as he cleaved through his foes and rushed to the tower. From her prison, the fair maiden called to him. Finally, he saw his princess. Sparing a moment to cast a reassuring smile to his lady, he raced through the barred door, up the steps, crushing all who opposed him, and at last, broke through her prison.

Sheathing his sword, he kneeled before his lady and spoke, “By my courage wrought from your virtuous heart and lovely gaze, I have found ye once again. Please forgive me for my weakness; had I paid greater heed to your warnings, I would not have been deceived by the foul emperor. I shall endeavor to defeat him who sought to offend thy honor, I swear it.”

His lady smiled kindly upon her savior, “Noble Sir Knight. I do indeed forgive thee and thank ye for your service. T’was only by knowledge of thy loyal heart I could endure this tortuous imprisonment.”

Together, they left lonely tower and the lonely plains, departing for their beloved kingdom. Hearts united against this threat, they would overcome this threat as they did any: with protector and strength side by side.

Big Mac's Few Words

Big Mac doesn’t talk much
But when he does, he says everything.

Eeyup, I can do it.
Eeyup, you’re right.
Eeyup, I agree.
Eeyup, I believe in you.
Eeyup, I’ve got your back.
Eeyup, don’t matter what others say about you.
Eeyup, your feelings are more important.
Eeyup, I know how you feel.
Eeyup, I lost my parents too.
Eeyup, but you have family here.
Eeyup, they love you.
Eeyup, you’re not alone.
Eeyup, you belong here.
Eeyup, you’ll always be welcome on Sweet Apple Acres
Eeyup, I’ll be here if you want to talk.
Eeyup, I’ll always be your hoofball buddy.
Eeyup, I’ll always be your friend.
Eeyup, you’re stronger than you think.
Eeyup, you can make it.
Eeyup, I’ll always be here if you need me.
Eeyup, I’ll help you face whatever comes our way.
Eeyup, you can do it.

Big Mac’s words are few
But they’re all I need to get by.

Dragon Lord Ember

View Online

Fairy tales write dragons as unkind, creatures of avarice, so cruel
But now, I can hope ponies will open their eyes and remember
There are dragons who love friends more than simple jewels
Look no further than the noble Dragon Lord Ember.

When ponies she just met needed her, she fought on their behalf
She halted what could have destroyed Ponyville; a pony dragon feud
By opening her heart to others and taking the Dragon Lord Staff
We all owe her a great chorus of unending gratitude.

We owe each other our lives, I saved her and she saved me
We came through for each other and our friends when the need was dire
But she bridged the gap between dragons and ponies
The moment we became friends and the moment she took the Trial of Fire.

Her true strength is a fragile heart
That thunders for every comrade
This gives her power that sets her apart
And fortifies her soul ironclad.

So next time you see a tale of knights and dragons malevolent
Remember Dragon Lord Ember, so brave and benevolent.

Thorax and I

View Online

I didn’t deserve his friendship after my unforgivable betray
Choosing my fame over his dream, his opportunity
Yet, my life in danger he saved me without delay
He forgave me, and joined our friendship community.

I saw only with my eyes and only for my selfish good
He opened them and showed me friendship’s fuel
Comes from a heart full of brotherhood
Where true friendship doesn’t see borders or rules.

Friends can overcome their shared woes
Friends can overcome any pain any blame
Because friends like us can say with hearts aglow
That deep down we’re the same.

He wanted to learn how to love but he taught every pony
That love requires us to close our eyes and look beyond
That if we judge with our eyes alone we may never see
How race cannot, should not damper true bonds.

Thorax is a true hero, a true brother, and a true friend
One that I will treasure long past the end.

Cadence's Ocean

View Online

I stand at the edges where the ocean laps at the shore
Shaping the earth with each wave from a rising tide
Helping her to grow each day a little more
Watching over the land with pride.

They play together and help each other through every trial
The ocean now sees the earth as an equal, and a friend
The earth will be there to raise the ocean’s child
Theirs is a love that always transcends.

Without the ocean, I might not have known how to be gentle
I would never have seen how kindness daily
Can shape the world in ways continental
And can forge new bonds of family.

I long to be like her, kind and everything the earth needs
Full of patience, wisdom, and a soft touch
That’s why I will do her will, her every deed
So like the ocean, my help will make her happier by much

Kindness like this, sweet affection, and tender caress
Is her warmth that I love best.

Teach Me to be like You, Shining Armor

View Online

The mighty mountain that cover the land act as her shield
Standing tall against the howls and bolts of thunderclouds
No matter how they smite, for the earth, the mountain never yields
He watches her grow and watches her proud.

As a part of the ground, the mountain will always be there
To help her through struggles and share in her mirth
To watch her grow into a lovely, powerful mare
To protect even I, lowly dweller of the earth.

You are a force in her life beyond my hands
You are unflagging, extending beyond my sight
You are a pillar that upholds the land
You are her friend, her brother, her knight.

Teach me mountain to be more like you
Teach me to face all foes regardless of my fear
Teach me your strength, your courage too
Teach me how I can help the one we hold dear.

I will learn like you to uplift her, to make her smile, to bear her pain
And I will do my best to defend Twilight in your eternal name.

Discord, No More Rules

View Online

How do you describe a guy like Discord?
Not with a sonnet that’s for sure. An ode to him shouldn’t have rules.
An ode to Discord should not be a chord of rhymes and rules
No, an ode to Discord needs imagination for fuel.

Then how about we start with Discord?
A snap of his fingers turns the world on its turns the world on its head
A wink of his eye never leaves you bored though it could give you fits
But that doesn’t matter, because Discord is our friend.

How do I know? How couldn’t I know?
He was once our enemy but now laughs with us as family
He keeps our world fun and scary and whoa He’s nutty
So much that keeping up this silly rhyme scheme would be tragedy

Discord rescued us from the changeling nest and played with Big Mac and I as we swung our axes and staffs to rid the foe pests and laughs a plenty he brung as we broke the rules to have ourselves a good time and that’s no crime to play around like a bunch of fools who enjoy every second with Discord and boy do we look like clowns but who cares when we’re having so much fun and his magic’s not half done his magic flares and then we’re dancing on cotton candy clouds and prancing on chocolate lakes like kids when he bolts through our sadness blue and puts a smile on our faces and down soap road we slid to a new land of mischief painted by a hand of chaos chief where no fun is forbid and life is hard and breaks our hearts til he his hands he claps and flips life on its back no strife can be here when Discord reigns but don’t fear he doesn’t give us pain because although he hasn’t always come through he’s not the only few who struggle to do right I know he will stand up to defend his family and friends and Discord will come through for me.

Thank you Discord for being our friend and Equestria’s defender please
Never stop being the greatest rule bender.

I guess writing is easier when you don’t have distractions around you

Comic books, Video games, Movies, and that stuff.

But writing isn’t easier when you’re surrounded by distractions

Loud noises, People walking in and out the room, Talking, and that stuff.
Writing isn’t any easier when you’re battered with distractions

Chores, Homework, Jobs, that stuff.
Writing isn’t any easier when you’re full of distractions

Headaches, Hand cramps, Sore eyes, and that stuff.
And writing isn’t any easier when you have distractions inside of you

Daydreaming, Writer’s block, Stress, and that stuff.

Writing isn’t the easiest when you don’t have any of these distractions

Too much free time, To goof around, Two hours gone by the time you can write

To write two pages is too hard

Two words are too much to write
But we always have distractions, and we get by
The fact we can create in the middle of stuff means we’re doing alright.

You Can't Know

How does it feel to have a third eye when everyone else has two?
Does everyone stare at the third eye? Do they trust the threeeye thing in a card game? Do they trust that eye to look at their children?

How does it feel to have one leg when everyone else has four?
Does the one leg look at four legs in jealousy? Do four legs recoil when they see one leg? Do they look at one leg and see a person?

How does it feel to have scales when everyone else has fur?
Do ponies keep their distance? Do they never completely trust scaly? Do they see scaly as a lesser creature, beneath them? Do they blame the entire scalies when one scaly does something bad? Do they say ponies like Sombra are just an exception to all ponies?

How does it feel to be in power?
Do police ever arrest you for looking suspicious? Do the majority say we are equal to them? Do they claim equality while shoving us in prison and letting their kind go free? Do they label everyone different from them? Do they treat us like monsters so often that we believe that’s what we are? Do they keep telling their children stories where we’re the bad guys? Do they make them see us and not see us? Do they keep us from their world? Do we even have a world for us?

How does it feel to be friends with six pony heroes of Equestria? How does it feel to be the stepson of royalty? How does it feel to be spared from so much hate? How does it feel to have defenders? How does it feel to know I belong, even when I shouldn’t?

How could I know how we feel? When I don’t even know what we feel?

Princess Luna; The Glories of the Night

Oh lovely Night!
Who hath not seen thy stars winking amidst thy tapestry of space?
Who hath not gazed at thy cosmos for hours?
Who hath not witnessed thy art that blossoms across the world?

Oh sonorous Night!
Fill us with thy melody of cricketsong and violin, thy blinking wings of spark
Empty us of our worldly worries, pour into us thy song of dusk
Clear the daystrife with thy beauteous stream of chorus, thy nightsong

Oh wondrous Night!
Fill us with thy glorious shine of night, rid us of our chains
Create thy art, thy chorus, not for worldly gain but for the joy of creation
Teach me to create for art’s sake and not for fame

Oh distant Night!
I reach to thy winking stars that slip from my grasp, I trod to hear the cricket’s violins but they silence at my approach, I try to touch grasp thy art
But thou art beyond my mortal comprehension, oh Empress of Shadows
And thy art cannot be confined within my words

Oh sad Night!
Do not weep as the sunsets, for thou hast equal beauty privileged to the open heart
Thy beauty is comfort in dreams, Thy beauty is release from pain, Thy beauty is dissolving our flesh in thy radiance and magnifying us to eternal calm and eternal glory
As thy moon reflects sun’s light, so we reflect your light, unable to produce thy beautiful rays within ourselves alone

Oh lovely Night!
Who hath not stared upon thy canvas brimming with true life?
Who hath not welcomed your restful embrace?
Who hath not longed to paint a portrait worthy of thy beauty?

Princess Celestia; Praise to the Morning

Praise to the Morning.
Her wonderful life star ascends across the sky
Sustains life of plants and animals big and small
We are unworthy to gaze upon her with our own eyes
Or touch her light that outshines the light of mortals all

Praise to the Morning.
The birds come alive to sing their soothing daysong symphony
Whistling their tunes beneath Her glorious rays
Filling the silence with their incongruous, natural harmony
That echoes through the trees through out the day

Praise to the Morning.
How does the Sun climb to the peak each day knowing it will fall?
How does She shine so bright when She must watch mortals’ pain?
How does She lend Her light to the grateful and ungrateful, how Her light haul
across the sky, how shine She even when clouds cackle and flash?
How does She always manage to drive out the rain?

Praise to the Morning.
Her unflagging strength to rise and give the fire within us fuel
Her light that opens our eyes and reveals reality
Her Sun is the world’s most sacred jewel
Her might is unmatched, Her wisdom without equal, Her beauty beyond compare, Her love is no fallacy, Her Heart touches more creatures than the wondering air
Praise to the Princess. Praise to my Mommy. Praise to Princess Celestia, Her Majesty.

Finale: Another Poem to Spike

View Online

Dear Spike,

Never stop reaching for greater heights
Never stop discovering who you are
Never stop doing what’s right
Never stop shining, Equestria’s Star.

Your heart is not a perfect one, you’ve struggled as we all do, but your heart is a beautiful one that treasures family like precious jewels.
Your heart is of two worlds, dragon and pony, and those worlds make your heart a lustrous cosmos in a galaxy of pearls.
Your heart does not beat for you alone, but for Twilight, for Rarity, for Applejack, for Fluttershy, for Pinkie Pie, for Rainbow Dash, for Starlight Glimmer, for Thorax, for Ember, for Cadence, for Shining Armor, for all of Equestria; you are their keystone
Your heart touched mine and fixed its sorrow and silence, your heart is an unbreakable diamond that can only grow.

For one who had given up on life like me, overcome with sadness from the world’s abuse and my failures, you gave me a new purpose and charted my destiny.
For one who felt he was nothing like me, told by those he once admired he could only fail in every endeavor, you drove away my self-doubt and my loathing.

You never even had to say a word to me, you just had to appear in my mind to fill my abyss, be yourself to make my pain flee, you helped me find that I can do this:

Write your stories that a few will see

Fight through hardships and find serenity

Light the path for others who hurt like me

Right their hurts, give escape through writing

Might that I give them comes from better hands than these

These tales, this tapestry of our hearts comes from you

Spike, champion of friendship, a guardian of harmony.

Inspire my heart to create
Set afire of life to my art and help me make

The next step

That I have to take to

The next day

That will bring pain until I take

The next step

The path is long but you strengthen me

Throughout any trial, you

Blaze like golden flames

Throughout my trials I remember

Thy flame that burns for others

That will inspire others

Through their trials to take

The next step

The next day

The next step
And feel peace by crafting art of your story
Make real what you don’t see: your glory

Although you want to see me, this cannot be
But do not despair, for boundaries separating us have gaps to travel between
Although you can’t see my smile, there is no reason to cry
For we can travel through the gaps to meet in our dreams
Although we live worlds apart, know that you live in many hearts
Search yours and you’ll find me deep within, feeling your every triumph with pride
Although our paths cannot cross, neither of us should feel loss
As long as we move forward and face each day, they can’t say our hope has died

My head begins to ache and the muse is leaving me to travel
My hands working the needle numb and my thread unravels
I must release her and carry on
I will find her again, when I remember you
The noblest dragon

To ever come into my life.

Sincerely,
Zephyr Spark
