> Tuesday > by Blarghalt > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Tuesday > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Warm Front had just returned from a hard day's work in the skies of Ponyville. Most of his day had been spent re-directing an unscheduled rainstorm that had blown in from the Everfree Forest, an effort that required the attention of most of the Weather Patrol. The yellow pegasus pony with the cutie mark of sun obscured by a gray cloud closed the plain wooden door behind him with his back leg, shutting it tight with a loud creak. He cracked his neck once and walked over to the kitchen to make himself a sandwich, something he always did right after work. In the kitchen, he prepared the essential ingredients: peanut butter, jelly, bread and cheese. The bread, jelly and peanut better were readily found in their respective containers, but as he opened the cupboard that contained the various dairy products, he found an empty spot full of cobwebs where the cheese should have been. “Huh. Must be out,” he said to himself, closing the cupboard behind him. He stood there for a moment, deciding that if this sandwich was worth a trip to the grocery store. His stomach rumbled and that was all the prompt he needed. He picked up his drab brown saddlebag, put it on and headed out into Ponyville once again in his quest for the missing sandwich component. It was a nice day, all this considered. Since the storm had been diverted away from Ponyville, only a few conveniently-placed clouds dotted the skyline above Ponyville and the sun shone brightly. The locals were busy trotting about, tending to their own business as they shopped and browsed the local shops. Warm Front's journey to the grocery store did not last long, as it was located only a short distance from his house. As he approached the store, he smiled a bit as he saw a sign out front that announced a small sale on all dairy products. When he entered the store, the owner greeted him. “Hello, Warm Front!” Fair Price said, waving his hoof in genuine eagerness. “Hi Fair,” Warm Front replied. He picked up a shopping basket and making his way down the aisle where the dairy products were kept. However, since he was hungry, he didn't stop on buying just cheese. He also bought several apples, a box of cereal, a carton of orange juice and some bananas. He also noticed that another local pegasus, Fluttershy, was busy inspecting a row of carrots with her companion Angel. She would point one out, only for Angel to rapidly shake his head in refusal and the cycle would repeat. After he had gathered all the things he craved, Warm Front set down his items in front of the friendly cashier. “That'll be twelve bits!” Fair Prince declared, holding out his hoof. “Alright,” Warm Front said, taking out the appropriate amount of coins from his saddlebag and placing them on the counter. Fair Price immediately scooped them up and waved at Warm Front, who was already out the door. “Have a nice one!” he exclaimed and kept waving even after the door had shut. Warm Front trotted back to his house at a medium pace, not wanting to spill his contents in haste. As he rounded the corner of the street where his house was located, his walk was interrupted by a sharp pain toward in the middle of his head. He had run into Applejack, who now was sitting on her hind legs, rubbing her head. “Consarnit!” she grumbled and looked up to see Warm Front, who had fallen down and was trying to get back up. She got back on all four hooves, holding out one to help the pegasus pony. “Sorry there Warm Front. Guess I wasn't watchin' where I was going.” As he got up with the assistance of the earthy pony, he waved one hoof in dismissal. “Eh, no harm done.” “So, how have you been Warm Front?” Applejack asked. “Can't complain. Had to help herd a big rainstorm away from Ponyville, but that turned out fine.” “That's mighty helpful of you. That much rain wouldn't have been good for the apple orchard this time of year.” The two ponies made a bit more idle chatter before heading off to their destinations. “Seeya later Warm Front! And sorry again about bumpin' into you!” Applejack called behind her. Warm Front said nothing in return, and only waved a hoof in acknowledgement. Warm Front again opened the humble door to his house and promptly closed it behind him, walking over to the kitchen table and setting down the saddlebag with his mouth. He set the cheese aside for immediate use. The rest of his purchases were quickly stowed away in their respective cupboards. Now, the moment he had been waiting for. First, he laid down two slices of bread on the counter. Then, he took a small butterknife and carefully dipped it in the jelly jar, smoothly spreading its contents over the two slices. He washed the knife off in the sink and repeated the process with the peanut butter. When the two layers of flavor were complete, he then delicately sliced two portions from the block of cheese he had bought and laid them squarely in the middle of the bread. Next, he took one of the slices of bread and laid it on top of the another, completing his sandwich. Warm Front chuckled a bit. “Should have gotten a sandwich cutie mark.” With nothing else holding him back, he scooped up the sandwich with the flat end of one of his front hooves and took a large bite out of it, savoring the sublime flavor of his creation. Three more bites finished off his meal, and he washed his hooves in the sink to rid himself of the crumbs. Satisfied, he placed the block of cheese in the empty space of the dairy cupboard, then went into the living room to read a book.
