Chapter 1

It was a cloudy afternoon on the outskirts of Ponyville, as the pegasus in charge of the weather had mentioned the possibility of isolated rain in certain places. On the base of the mountain near by, were Rainbow Dash and Rarity, challenging the forecast as they looked for gems.

“I’m sorry for bringing you here on our second anniversary Rainbow Dash.” said Rarity “But it’s imperative for me to get these gems for a very special order.”

“That order’s pretty special, huh?” grumbled Rainbow.

“Not as special as you.” Rarity answered with seductive look “But I’m going to make it up to you darling, lady’s word.”

Rainbow could only avert her eyes, always blushing when Rarity looked at her like that.

Their relationship had lasted two years so far, which started with a lot of doubts and confusion but kept evolving into something special, something that they shared. But regardless of the passage of time, sometimes secrets were kept, and hidden during their entire relationship, Rainbow felt guilty, for she had her own secret that she can’t wait to get out.

Therefore, deep down in her heart, she thanked Rarity for taking her out to look for gems, instead of a fancy restaurant; where she would have to wear a dress, designed by another pony to surprise her special somepony. Nor would their be other ponies to hear what she had to say.

Was the secret really that bad to keep Rainbow worried the entire day? She didn’t know, because ever since the first date with Rarity, everything she thought she knew about love was utterly destroyed. The Pegasus, at the beginning, felt insecure about her feelings, always afraid of making mistakes. Rarity however, had enough confidence to keep going.

Luckily for her, Rarity was so immersed in her own thoughts that she didn’t notice Rainbow’s discomfort until she decided to talk about it.

“Hey, Rarity...”

“Yes?” Rarity replied.

Rainbow didn’t know what to say, her mind going blank for a few seconds.

“Nice day right?” Rainbow asked, berating herself internally.

“Certainly. You made it, did you?”

“Me?! Make weather?! What are you saying?! What’re you accusing me of?!” Rainbow asked asked frantically.

“‘Accusing’?” asked Rarity, confused “But you’re the captain of the Ponyville weather team, the one in charge of the weather, it’s your job.”

“Oh yeah, I forgot...” Rainbow giggled nervously.

The unicorn continued focus on her work looking for gems “Something happen, Darling? You’ve been out of it all day.”

“Remember our first kiss?” Rainbow asked, still averting her eyes

It was impossible to forget, I mean, who could? So many things happened that day that would change their lives forever, but the one affected the most was Rarity.

“Of course I do, honey.” Rarity replied with a smile.

That day, the six friends had travelled to Manehattan for an emergency about the boutique she’d opened in the city. The whole morning, the unicorn and her business partner met with ponies from the bank and the real estate agent to discuss the terrible resource administration that lead to the boutique’s bankruptcy.

“That day my dressmaker’s career suffered a stumble.” she added, digging up a gemstone from the ground and putting in her saddlebag.

She managed the issue with an enviable mask of professionalism. She didn’t lose the composure the entire meeting, unlike her partner, who was apologizing for all the trouble she made. After hours of discussion, Rarity said goodbye to the assembled businessponies and her ex-partner, possibly to never see them again.

When her friends came to see her, Rarity cried and ran away. They were about to follow her but Twilight stopped them, saying that Rarity needed some time to herself.

“I couldn’t bear to see your faces, failing so hard after everything you did for me so I could open that place.” Rarity’s expression changed, remembering that moment “And then... you arrived.”

After half an hour, the girls decided to find her; each one going in one direction and would return to the shop after an hour.

As expected, Rainbow found her first; She was alone, sitting on a bench. She descended from the sky and ran to her, but just as she was about to get to Rarity, a sudden rain hit the city.

“Rarity, we have to go!” yelled Rainbow as other ponies were running away, looking for someplace to hide from the rain.

But Rarity didn’t listen.

“C’mon, your mane is gonna get messed up, think about your makeup running!”

But Rarity ignored her, and slowly Rainbow got closer to the sobbing unicorn and sat next to her. Rainbow didn’t know what to do to make Rarity return. Without the others to help, she just did the first thing that came to mind; stroke her mane to relax her. The action seemed to work because Rarity stopped for a second and showed her face.

Rainbow had known Rarity from some time now, and saw her being dramatic about everything; from the smallest possible thing to the biggest problem, but that was the first time she saw her in such a state of vulnerability. After all, failure is something that not everypony takes the same way, especially after investing a lot of time and money on it. Her hopeless expression left Rainbow speechless.

“Please,” begged Rarity “hold me.”

After those three words, she rested her head on Rainbow’s shoulder. The pegasus didn’t know what to do again, so she just hugged her, simply to be there for her, without saying a single word.

The rain didn’t cease, the time seemed endless. Soon the chill of the raindrops was replaced with the warmth of their bodies, Rarity tears mixing with the rain and disappearing into Rainbow’s coat, the pegasus’ heartbeat calming her destroyed nerves.

Love is a mystery, an enigma, a riddle and a game for two players. They never knew what made them separate, stare into each other’s eyes for a few seconds, put their faces close and connect their lips into a kiss that spring afternoon.

Something was born that day. Something that would end up for growing and developing into something that would survive all adversity in their way.

“And then we had our first kiss.” Rarity said, smiling again.

A spark ran through their bodies, remembering that magical moment. Rarity had stopped collecting gems and both were on their way back to the boutique.Though it seemed like the unicorn decided to take different road opposed to the one they came down earlier in the day.

“And what’s with all the questions darling?”

Rainbow gulped and stopped flying, landing at her love’s side. Rarity arched an eyebrow, if she was on the ground it must be something really bad.

“The rain…” Rainbow began.

It was now or never. The intrigue was such that they didn’t hear the storm coming.

“I made it.”

Rainbow covered her ears and shied away, the unicorn’s scream would hurt. But nothing happened.

“Pardon?” Rarity asked, confused.

“Yeah, well, you see... I knew you weren’t going to come even if I begged you, so I put together a bunch of clouds and made it rain to make you come back to the shop.” Rainbow said nervously.

Rarity gasped, a hoof over her mouth. Rainbow was ready for the sea of tears, the endless questions, the drama sofa that somehow teleported from her house to where she was and much more. But once again, nothing happened.

“I’m sorry for screwing up our special moment, can you forgive me?” Rainbow asked.

“Screwed-up? Oh darling...” Rarity said approaching and gently taking Rainbow’s hoof “You didn’t screw up anything. That special moment, that lead us to something wonderful that no one expected; was the kiss and the feelings in that moment, not the rain.”

“R-really?”

“Really. I’m surprised that you think I’m going to react so poorly to things like this.” Rarity giggled.

“You’re the best mare.” Rainbow said,

The pegasi leaned in close for a kiss, but Rarity interrupted the moment.

“Wait a second love, could you be a dear and bring me that rock over there?”

Rainbow, neighing from the lack of kissing, went to the rock and brought it to Rarity.

“What makes this rock so special? You have a lot of gems in your bags already.”

“Look, this rock symbolize our love.”

“Grey, cold and able to knock down ponies if you throw it to the head?” asked Rainbow.

“Ha ha, very funny.” Rarity replies flatly “What I meant was that all the gems in my bag are already special, shining and colorful. But sometimes, you have to look inside to discover something truly beautiful.”

Rarity’s magic enveloped the rock and broke it in two. From the inside she took a golden bracelet with two little diamonds on it, one purple and other light-blue. Then, she knelt in front of the confused pegasus who didn’t know what to do, nor what was happening.

“Rainbow ‘Danger’ Dash, will you marry me?”

“Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!” Excited, Rainbow pulled Rarity into a hug and flew to the sky, spinning all the way up. The rainbow contrail mixing with the colour of Rarity’s tail was a unique, much like their relationship.

Being close to the storm clouds, Rainbow stopped to contemplate her beloved’s messy mane, which in some way made her even more beautiful.

“I mean... yeah, whatever.” Rainbow answered.

They joined in a kiss, the rain dropped over them much like that spring afternoon, but this time, Rainbow had nothing to do with it.

Rarity, however, she should thanks the Ponyville weather team for their help making this special moment.
