> Sunset Shimmer, You Stole My Waifu! > by TheNewYorkBrony > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Shipping Wars > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Sunset Shimmer!” A familiar, yet uncharacteristically angry sounding voice called to the fiery haired guitarist from down the hallway. Sunset didn't have time to turn around to see who it was before the culprit was in her face, nose scrunched up in anger, eyes glaring her down. Well...almost. If they were actually looking at her. “Uh, yes, Derpy? Did I do something wrong?” Sunset asked, genuinely concerned. She truly wondered what she did to make the usually docile girl upset. “You stole Flash from me!” Derpy responded, continuing to stare her down. Sort of. “Excuse me?” Sunset was truly confused. Last time she checked humans didn't own other humans in this world. Well, as of late. There were certainly cases of that in history as she learned in class, but she was pretty sure that's illegal now. “Can you explain what you-” “I saw you chatting him up when we were at Camp Everfree! Don't act like it didn't happen!” Derpy said, her eyebrows furrowing. Sunset didn't have the slightest idea what she was talking about, but then she remembered that she had left Flash to follow Timber into the woods. Back when she thought he was the one causing chaos and not his sister. She had been wrong about that one. “I think you misunderstood, Derpy,” Sunset assured her, with her arms up in surrender. “It was just friendly conversation. As you know, friends. I have no interest in getting back together.” She scratched her cheek. “Though I can see how it could be seen that way seeing how I completely blew him off.” Suddenly, Derpy’s face lit up. “No wonder he was so heartbroken! You stomped on it!” “Stomped on it is pretty harsh, don't you think?” Sunset asked. “I may have been distracted by something when I was talking to him, but I didn't just outright step on the poor guy. Even though there are some guys into that. But I don't think Flash likes that kind of stuff.” She babbled, her eyebrows furrowing. “Still, it doesn't matter how nice you are now! You made him feel bad and now he's been sulking around!” Derpy told her, folding her arms. “Oh,” Sunset said, looking down at the ground. “I didn't know that. Maybe I should-” “You've done enough!” Derpy interrupted. “He's so sad about you, he won't even notice me...” The sad look on Derpy’s face was weapons grade level cute. While Sunset couldn't quite exactly understand what was going on here, she did know that Derpy truly cared for Flash, and that she'd be a big step up from the old person Sunset used to be. “How about I help you?” Sunset offered. “Really?” Derpy asked. “You’d do that for me?” She frowned. “How do I know this isn't a way for you to get rid of the competition?” Sunset laughed. “Trust me. I've got my eye on someone else.” Later, at lunch, Sunset explained the situation to the girls. “Derpy?” Twilight Sparkle asked. “Derpy has a crush on Flash?” She sounded a little offended. Not that she was pining after him herself, but she knew her other worldly doppelganger wouldn't be too happy about it. “I honestly thought her one true love was muffins! I know mine is cupcakes!” Pinkie chirped, stuffing one in her mouth. “They're practically baked goods cousins!” “Yes, well,” Rarity responded, wiping the frosting Pinkie had gotten all over her blouse off. “I think it's a marvelous idea that you're willing to help her Sunset. Especially since she's going after your ex. I would say it even violates the girl code.” “The girl code?” Applejack asked skeptically. “Ah think you just made that up.” Fluttershy lugged a sparkly tome like book out of her bag and flipped to a particular page before reading, “Section five, paragraph nine; No girl the six of us are friends with shall go after any of our exes, no matter how much time has passed with a few exceptions.” “Why is that even a thing?” Rainbow Dash asked, shoving off Pinkie who was reaching for her brownie. “And where the heck did you get that?” “Rarity made copies for all of us at the beginning of the school year. She did change a few things when Twilight joined us though,” Fluttershy responded, flipping to another page. “See, look here, Section two, paragraph twelve, Not one of us shall interfere if Twilight shows interest in anyone in our group.” “That's oddly specific,” Sunset said, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion. Twilight also looked a bit perplexed. “Ah, well, it's just suggestions darling, just things to look to when we don't have a solution for a certain problem!” Rarity babbled, obviously covering up something. “A-Anyway why don't we all pitch in to help you get Derpy and Flash together? The Valentine's Day dance is Friday, I was making dresses for all of us but I could fit Derpy in!” Sunset beamed. “That's a great idea Rarity! And since we're all on the planning committee we could really make everyone feel the Valentine's Day spirit!” “Not if Ms. Harshwhinny doesn't accept my giant chocolate heart idea!” Pinkie said, folding her arms. “Oh give it a rest Pinkie!” Dash told her. “For the last time, no one is going to want to eat that much chocolate except for you! Unless the whole school wants diabetes it's not gonna happen!” Sunset patted Pinkie's back. “Dash is right, Pinkie. But that doesn't mean you can't have heart shaped cupcakes.” “You're right!” Pinkie squealed. “I've got to get baking!” She declared, getting up, the rest of her lunch long forgotten. Rarity sighed. “Well, might as well start loosening the hem on my skirts now.” “You want me to ask him to the dance?” Derpy asked. Sunset had caught up to her after lunch and told the blonde about her plan. All Derpy had to do to set it in motion, was to ask Flash to the dance, and the rest would be up to luck. Sunset nodded. “Easy as pie. You just ask him if he's going and then ask if he as a date.” “But what if he does have a date?” Derpy asked. Okay, maybe Sunset hadn't thought this through. Flash, while not really having much of a presence, was still a popular and attractive guy. Of course there'd be a chance he'd have a date by now. The dance was only a few days away. She pushed Derpy in the direction of Flash’s locker. “Welp, guess we won't know until you try now will we?” “But I-” Derpy started to protest. “Go!” Sunset shouted, making shooing motions with her hands. Derpy inhaled deeply, took a step forward, and fell flat on her face. Sunset smacked her forehead. She forgot that she had just asked the most accident prone girl she's ever seen to do something that could be potentially embarrassing. This was not going to end well. Flash bent down to help her up. “Hey, are you okay Derpy?” He asked, dusting her off. “I'm better now,” Derpy giggled goofily. Another forehead smack. Derpy shook her head to clear it. “Uh, anyway I was wondering if you were going to the Valentine's Day dance on Friday because Sunset wanted me to-” “She wanted you to ask me to go with her? That's weird but I'll go with her if she wants me to. Thanks for the head’s up, Derpy.” Flash said, closing his locker and heading to class. “That's not what I- Ugh!” She groaned, kicking the locker in front of her. Sunset’s forehead had a red hand mark on it for the rest of the day. The rest of the week came and went, and before Sunset knew it, it was Friday afternoon and she had found herself at Rarity’s house getting ready for the dance. She had explained what had happened to the girls, and they all said it would work out in the end. Sunset had attempted to explain to Flash what Derpy had been trying to say all week and had no such luck. She might have just confused the boy even further. Rarity had once again shown her brilliance in dressmaking, creating head turning dresses for all of her friends. Sunset’s hair had been tied back into a bun, with some of it left out to create bangs. The dress that she had on was a blood red cocktail dress will a flirty open back and a plunge neckline. She felt that it was a little revealing, but Rarity thought it was perfect. They were waiting for Fluttershy to show up in her mom's mini van. Rarity had vehemently protested against it, but it was either that or take separate cars, and Sunset’s bike was in the shop. The ride back to school was short, but Sunset’s nerves went through the roof when they entered the gym. She wanted to help Derpy as best as she could, which meant letting down Flash easy. Again. She had a bone to pick with karma after this. The party was in full swing by the time they had arrived since Rarity insisted on being fashionably late. All that did was make Sunset more nervous. She spotted Derpy by the punch bowl and went up to her. “I'm sorry, Derpy, this is all my fault.” Derpy looked confused. “What is? It was just a simple misunderstanding. I'm sure he'll understand once I tell him that I'm the one who wanted to ask him out.” Sunset nodded. “Are you okay? Do you want me to tell him the truth? I knew I should have went with you when I told you to ask him out.” Derpy shook her head. “Nah, I've got this. You're a good friend, Sunset.” She hugged her and walked over to Flash and tapped him. Sunset couldn't hear what she said to him, but it seemed like Derpy was handling things well on her own. Sunset felt a tap on her own shoulder and saw that Twilight was standing sheepishly in front of her. “I just wanted...” She started and then paused. “I know this is kind of late to be asking this but do you have a date for tonight?” Twilight’s blush darkened as she finished her question. Sunset smiled. “As a matter of fact, I do not. Would you like to be mine?” She asked with a wolfish grin, holding her hand out for Twilight to take. As the lights dimmed and a slow song came on, they began to dance. Sunset saw Derpy out of the corner of her eye, and smiled back when she smiled at her, giving her a thumbs up to tell her everything was good. Somewhere from across the dance floor she heard Fluttershy go, “Section eight, paragraph one, Dash cannot date Fluttershy.” And then Rainbow Dash go, “Will you give it a rest already!"
