> The Night Child > by Silver Inkwell > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Night Child > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Night Child Celestia stared down at the tiny little filly known as Indigo Moon and she smiled, she looked almost so much like her sister, but then again not. For if she was too much like her sister then she might cry, but it was just enough that it still made her smile for pride and joy now instead. She was a very quiet little thing since the moment that she had first met her in the museum, and over time she had gotten to know the filly quite well and treated her with more love and respect as she had wished she had done with Luna. And it was almost like she was the daughter or sister that she never had. But she knew that it was not so from the letter she read so long ago. And once more again she closed her eyes and remembered it. Dear Princess Celestia. We humbly request that you take our daughter Indigo Moon in to live with you, for we fear for our lives and we may not have much time left at all right now. Our lands are growing more chaotic ever since a Nightmare Shadow showed up, and while he promised not to harm any pony in Equestria he did not make the same deal with your sister Luna as he so kindly explained to us. Should you receive this letter and our daughter know that we will forever be in your debt if we live through this whole entire thing. In all probability we will most likely be dead or gone by the time that you receive this letter. For we know that no matter what our time is at an end, but the Moon Family must live on with her. I know that this will probably conflict with your sister since she controls the darkness and shadows and the night, but from what Ness says she’s already in conflict with him. He also says that if my daughter does ever reach you that Luna will be dead, and somehow I find myself actually believing him now. I hope that this letter never reaches you and that we can be with our daughter again, but if not then know that you will be favored for taking this child in. Should this letter not reach you then you will hear from us shortly, if it does then you will never hear from us ever again. And if this letter does reach you then please tell our daughter that we love her and will always be there for her no matter where she is or what happens, please tell her that at least, for us as one last favor, for we would do no less or more with any member of your family as is the tradition and custom within all of our wide vast large lands that we have. And please help her to accept you as her new mother, friend, and teacher. Sincerely yours, King Crescent Moon and Queen Starlight Moon. The contents of the letter had been lingering in her mind for quite some time now, and she couldn’t ever get rid of it even if she wanted to no matter what she tried to do. But of course she had no wish to remove her memories, because she knew that she would grow to like and love this child like she was her own. And in a way, she had, because when she told her that her parents would never be coming back again for her and that they were dead she took it very well surprisingly enough. In fact she had actually smiled when she was told that Celestia would be her new mother, friend, and teacher as well too. She seemed to just accept life and death while the other ponies did not. But no matter what she was always quiet, calm, and very thoughtful. She always had very surprising words of wisdom to speak no matter what happened to her or her new mother, and she was always very strong too. And most of the time she would just sit and stare out at the sky. And that was because she liked to think, a lot. Sometimes she would write and draw and do other things with Celestia too, but whenever she could she would always find and make time for thinking. But she would also enjoy her time doing the other activities too. And although she did not always ever show or express her emotions openly (although her thoughts and opinions were a very different matter completely), she always did manage a smile no matter what the activity was. And as the bond between Celestia and Indigo grew she knew that her sister would be very proud of her because she knew that she would do exactly the same, and so it was that very soon enough she took Indigo as an apprentice. But there were always threats to be dealt with in the land of course. And very soon enough she had to teach her daughter how to fight and defend herself in this new cold cruel world that was very different from the one that she had always know. But very soon enough Indigo would no longer just be a small tiny little filly, she would be an adult very soon enough now. And she knew that she couldn’t keep this child a secret and so one day she decided to tell her favorite student Twilight Sparkle about her when she was finally ready to go out and face the world and any dangers and perils that it held now. Twilight was very shocked and surprised at this first of course. But she soon got over it and finally managed to find a way to live with a new alicorn and the information, after all, what was one more alicorn princess to the lands now? And so it was that Celestia smiled as she looked out at her child, her daughter. For Indigo Moon wasn’t just part of one family now, but two now instead. And she just wasn’t an almost exact image or reflection of Luna either. But instead she was the one true real child of the night.
